My new Pentax 10-17mm fisheye lens (identically optically to the Tokina one available in other mounts) arrived Saturday and I was able to use it on a trip to Seabreeze, a small local amusement park, later that day. I ended up using it a lot of the time and had a real blast with it - it's really a fun, fun lens!

Seabreeze is kind of a neat old park. It's very old (opened in 1879) and fairly small but this gives it a nostalgic charm. The tragedy of the park is that in 1994, they had a terrible fire which destroyed their 1915 carousel as well as the one-of-11 Wurlitzer 165 organ. Fortunately, just two years later, the new carousel and organ were in place. The carousel re-used the horses that survived the fire, and all the others were hand-carved - possibly the last carousel that will ever be made this way. The organ is a Belgian-built replica constructed around an original Wurlitzer tracker, and they now have the largest collection of Wurlitzer 165 rolls in the world.

Our trip was the first time we let my son Jack ride any amusement rides rides by himself, which he enjoyed...

http://www.totalsham.com/pics/gallery/4628-4/Seabreeze2007-09.jpg

He also got his very first rollercoaster ride, on the kiddie "Bear Trax" coaster. That's him in the second-to-last row with his mommy.

http://www.totalsham.com/pics/gallery/4652-4/Seabreeze2007-15.jpg

He had so much fun that he ended up riding it five times! And he was always pretty unhappy to get off when the ride was over. Poor kid! Fortunately lines were short...

Here's a fisheye photo from the carousel...

A detail photo from the top of the carousel.

Here's a shot of the organ, this is with the fisheye lens at 17mm for minimal fisheye distortion.

http://www.totalsham.com/pics/gallery/4688-4/Seabreeze2007-24.jpg

The other real showpiece of Seabreeze is the Jack Rabbit, built in 1920 and now the fourth-oldest coaster in the world. And it's still a blast!

One last carousel shot, more fun with the fisheye... no tripod here, just resting the camera on the rail surrounding the ride.

And a final park shot, here's the train with the log flume ride in the background.

http://www.totalsham.com/pics/gallery/4716-4/Seabreeze2007-31.jpg

All in all, a fun afternoon and a really fun new lens, I can't wait to play with it at Disneyland! :thumbsup2

I haven't noticed any shifted colors yet but I have seen a little purple fringing, which was was my biggest concern as that was the only real knock I could find on the lens - and it's apparently nearly unavoidable once you get a lens as wide at 10mm. I did find one or two shots that had a little bit, but usually you had to look very closely. Most shots were like this one, with little to no PF:

http://www.totalsham.com/pics/gallery/4684-4/Seabreeze2007-23.jpg

This is probably the worst one so far, and it could be cleaned up with a little post-processing and isn't too distracting... but it is definitely there, especially on the bars farthest to the right.

http://www.totalsham.com/pics/gallery/4636-4/Seabreeze2007-11.jpg

You can check out them in my Seabreeze gallery (http://www.totalsham.com/gallery/events/seabreeze07/) if you want to look at a few in more detail, up to 1280x1024.

Still, the lens is so darn fun that I can probably live with that. :) My bigger issue with some of the posted photos is noise, the lens is relatively slow (unlike my F2.8 Zenitar fisheye) so I was shooting at ISO 800, and because of the bright outdoors in the background, some shots were underexposed, so they show a little more noise than I'd like once I brightened them up in post-processing. I did switch to spot metering and that helped a lot, but I still have a couple that weren't ideal.

Overall, the ability to zoom in and out is handy and it gives you the chance to look at things in a slightly different way. It helped that it was a pretty good deal, I got it for $327 after rebate (thank you, Beach Camera), which is downright cheap for an OEM fisheye. I'm very happy so far. My only regret is that I didn't order it a couple weeks ago, I could have had it for $309 after rebate! Oh well...

thanks, i noticed in the album it said you used your ist or does it just call your new camera that as well...wondering what the crop factor would be like with my 1.6 crop as far as fish eye appearance.

No new camera, still using my ol' DL... I advertised it on one Pentax forum, I'm going to give it a couple days then toss it on eBay if it doesn't sell on there, and order a K100D to tide me over until Pentax announces their next round of cameras in October.

I think I should still be able to sell my DL for more than I paid for it... we'll see!

I'm not sure that you'd see too big of a difference on the Canon as the sensors aren't really that much different in size... but you'd probably have to find some reviews of the Tokina with the Canon mount to see what they say, and check out some sample photos.

Part of me wishes that the lens was just a plain 10mm since then it would probably be faster, plus it might have slightly less PF, but on the other hand the zoom is pretty neat (allowing you to take almost normal photos, so you don't have to switch lenses constantly - some good extra versatility) and while a closer look at some of the photos does reveal a bit of PF here and there, it's not so awful as to be a deal-breaker, and can always be cleaned up in post-processing if need be...

I remember Seabreeze and the traditional trip to Don & Bob's (or Vic & Irv's) pickle buckets afterwards. Roseland was better but now I'm showing my age a bit. I'm glad the Syracuse mall saved the last carousel at least.

The world needs more clean trolley parks.

We did leave the park briefly to go eat dinner at Vic & Irv's - that place is great. :)

Roseland is back as a water park (http://www.roselandwaterpark.com/) now but I haven't been there, I do remember going to the original when I was just a kid, but I don't remember much about it.

Gdad, good luck - I actually was looking at Nikkor reviews for comparison before buying, to get an idea of how the fisheye zoom's shortcomings compare to a prime of similar focal length. It sounds like it may have slightly less PF than the Pentax/Tokina, but probably not significantly so (it still has it). It's mostly speed vs zoom, I think. If the 10-17mm was F2.8, it'd be nearly perfect. :teeth: Either way, they're a lot of fun!

Geez Groucho, I think your a little hard on the PF. Either that or your eyes are really really good. Mine are only surgically optomized. I didn't see anything wrong with the pics. Even the noise isn't somthing that pops out. Maybe on a larger screen or a big enlargment. But I think you'll be ok. It looks pretty sharp too.

Nice pics once again. Thanks for sharing.

Great pictures, as usual! Funny - I had never thought of a fish-eye for taking "everyday" or "normal" situation type pictures - always thought they were used exclusively for those super-wide shots off the top of buildings! I'm learning something new every day. It does look like a fun lense - I gotta add that to my list too!

Thanks! Yes, I'm being a little hard on the PF and noise. Ideally, of course, the lens would have no PF but I think that's nearly unavoidable with a fisheye. I don't find it to be distracting from what I've seen so far, but it definitely does exist, and pixel-peepers may be distracted by it.

As for noise, well, a couple have more noise than I'd usually get at ISO 1600 (thanks to post-processing boosting) and I wanted to explain that.

DVC Jen, thanks! We think he's awfully cute ourselves. :teeth:

Lizziejane, I think I'm going to be using this lens a lot... actually, I was thinking that at Disneyland in a few weeks, I may even see if I can get by without the normal camera bag and just carry the camera around my neck and have two belt pouches for lenses - the three lenses that I think I'd use 99% of the time are my 28-75mm F2.8, 50mm F1.4, and this one for wide shots. At 17mm, the fisheye effect isn't too distracting and can be straightened out in post-processing if I really want. And the full 10mm-wide shots are a lot of fun! I'll definitely be taking of lot of them.

Wow, Seabreeze...Jackrabbit was the first coaster I rode, and I think I was 16 at the time. Was terrified of them, then I got on this and I think I rode it 20 times in one day. Good times, good times.
Roaseland is now open again, and it is a waterpark. My Mom and Dad took my Niece and Nephew there a few weeks ago when they were up for vacation. I remember it vaguely from when I was a kid, but I know my Mom and Dad spent a lot of time there.
Great shot, from what looks like a fun lens.

BTW, saw the Ansel exhibit last week while I was up. It was pretty cool. Lots of photos and really helped me "see" a little better.
How bout that weather up there last week too, man it was nice.

Cheers

Hi Furgus, glad you liked the Ansel exhibit... maybe I'll get a chance to get up there before it's gone. Usually when I go to the Eastman House, it's to the movie theater but I should make another trip to the museum proper one of these days!

your bathroom has the same color walls as my "photography room" ( which right now is empty so much nicer sounding than it is) if my local camera shop had the tokina in a canon mount when i went in to buy my replacement lens cap yesterday ( no dobut i will find the old one today) i might not have been able to resist the temptation;)

Here's my version of the self-portrait... it was a little dark hence the flash. Not my bathroom but that's OK. :)

Looking at yours, I wonder if you were having the same problem as me when I tried the same shot in my bathroom... I think that because of the lighting, it was "strobing" slightly so things like the camera's lettering were repeating themself (not blurring), and it looks like a similar thing happened with the Nikon logo on yours. Darn fluorescent bulbs!

It seems like enough folks here have fisheye lenses to necessitate the fish having its own thread apart from the UWA Cult. No restrictions on time of day or apertures at which the images were taken (much to Mark's chagrin), so go wild with your fishiest shots!

Woo! Glad to see a thread dedicated to the fish. I do have to ask though, when did you buy a fish and which one? I would ask if you rented it for the honeymoon, but I know better. ;)

I don't have too many with the fish since I just bought my Nikon 10.5 late last year and didn't use it all winter, but I hope to have more to add as the summer goes on since I don't have the UWA anymore.

I started a new thread because at least 25% of my shots from this trip are with the fisheye (poor Tokina 11-16 is going through withdrawal from lack of use right now, I think), and it seems like it's now a 50/50 split of fish/UWA in that thread now, whereas fish used to be posted only on rare occasions.

I bought it a couple months ago--I got the Tokina one. I only used it twice before taking it to WDW, so I didn't really do so hotly with it. I would not recommend the Tokina unless you don't want/have a separate UWA lens. That might just be me, though, as I use f/2.8 a lot on my UWA lens, and I know I would use it a lot on the fisheye, whereas I never used 11-17 on the fish. I was always at 10mm.

The only reason I got the Tokina was because it was the first one that came up ridiculously cheap on eBay. I ended up paying $311 shipped for it, so I can't complain too much. Once I spot a cheap Sigma, I will get that and sell the Tokina.

I mostly agree, but remember that F2.8 is only a half-stop faster than F3.5 - at 10mm, you won't be gaining much speed. Also note that the Sigma is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge compared to the Tokina! (At least, it is next to the Pentax, which should be basically the same size.) I would like F2.8 also but the extra flexibility comes in handy - I'll sometimes carry just my 10-17mm fisheye and my 50-135mm and if I need wide, I'll shoot at 17mm and crop. This is especially true now that Lightroom 3 can do such a good and fast job and straightening out the fishiness.

Awesome shots, Groucho. Now I'm wishing I would've used the fish, rather than the 70-200 on my one trip on Jungle Cruise. Might actually have to ride it again in December just for photography's sake (might be heresy to some, but JC has fallen off my radar for "must ride" attractions--we've had some terrible skippers as of late).

Thanks! The skippers are sometimes a bit hit or miss. Ours was pretty good. I think our trip in January had the best one we've had yet. We like riding it at night, too - of course, shooting it at night would be pretty challenging, we just like the feel of it at night.

Here's another JC shot in a style that you don't see very often...

Here's a couple shots that I was never quite satisfied with. Both involve moving water...

http://www.groucho.org/pics/54242-2/WDW2010SWW-236.jpg

This one I took way too long on (too many 30 sec exposures, including this one) and still never got it quite to my liking. I think the original lighting isn't really set up ideally for such a photo (the nerve of them! ;) )... in case you don't recognize this, this is a waterfall at the back on the stroller parking in Fantasyland, near the old Skyway building.

Groucho, I've never been sold on the Fisheye look. But the work you've been doing with it is really amazing. For the first time ever I have myself wishing I could give it a try!

I'm betting half of the battle is knowing when the fisheye will enhance a view and when it won't. Clearly you've got that down!

Thanks very much! I'm glad you like. You know what they say about practice - I just keep using it and trying to find new ways. I have some ideas that I haven't used a lot yet - like shooting with the intention of cropping off a chunk off one edge of the frame, to give you off-center fishiness... but really, part of it is playing with the fish a bit and thinking about scenes where it would be a good idea.

Here's a few more, hopefully these are all ones that I haven't posted here before...

http://www.groucho.org/pics/53671-2/WDW2010SWW-103.jpg

Here's an example of cropping - the bottom was lopped off so that only the top has the fisheye look.

Here's another one with some cropping - both top and bottom here.

http://www.groucho.org/pics/51017-2/WDW2010-428.jpg

...and of course, they can be a lot of fun with cars. :)

Wow, they do, don't they? I promise I didn't rip those off of you and would have given you props had yours been the direct influence of mine. However, I readily admit to being heavily, heavily influenced by your photography in general, especially your fisheye shots. BTW, I like the composition of your TTA fisheye shot MUCH better than mine.

I'm just teasing, don't worry about it. :) Those are relatively old shots so you may not have been them unless you were going through some of my early TRs. I couldn't care less if anyone copies any of my shots. Plenty of my shots have been influenced by or even copied directly from others... 0bli0, YEKCIM, etc. Now we have a ton of very talented photographers around here - one can't help but be influenced by your stuff, Gdad's, SrisonS's, etc.

TTA was one of my first fisheye subjects. I did some on film with the Zenitar that I really liked. I need to re-scan these (these are just scans of the prints, not of the negatives) but you get the idea...

When you think you're close enough...move closer.

I will actually extend my fingers past the edge of the lens to act as a bumper when I'm composing some shots with the fisheye just so I don't bash the front element against the subject matter.

Conversely, I had seen some of Todd's shots prior to our trip, and a few of mine were directly inspired by them. My absolute favorite shot from the trip was not inspired by Todd, although it's certainly going to look like it was...damn him for beating me to the punch!

It just proves how very difficult it is to come up with a shot that hasn't been done before, by someone, even using a specialty lens like a fisheye. :) I'm sure I've got plenty that I thought were new and others have done before... and like you, I've had ideas for specific shots that others have beat me to. (Darn you Florida residents and your unfair advantage! ;) )

How about a few West Coast fisheyes...

Thanks Colleen!

I can see why! Very nice; have you thought of shooting this one again, now that Bay Lake Tower (and the elevated walkway to it) have been completed?
Thanks! I actually have considered redoing it, I just haven't had a chance to get back over there at night since then. Hopefully the upcoming trip will have some free time for such things - we will probably skip a year or two so I have to make sure to get everything off my list. :) I actually have BLT on waitlist but I doubt that we will get it. There were various nights available but I decided I didn't want to go through the hassle of switching resorts during the stay. Maybe next time...

One sort of funny story with this picture is that Wishes was going on while I took it - so everyone waiting for the bus was watching that and I have my tripod set up facing in the opposite direction. I think it's just luck that I happened to catch a monorail going by, too (which is easy to miss at first glance.) All in all, I am very pleased with the result! I do see a number of things that I could improve on a second attempt though.

Thanks! It was fun shooting there, I was there accompanying Mrs Groucho who was at a librarian conference, so I had a good amount of time to just wander around. It was also late fall so there wasn't much in the way of crowds... of course, it also meant that the carousel wasn't running, alas.

Canon just put out a video shot entirely with their upcoming fisheye zoom. You can see it here (http://web.canon.jp/imaging/ef/samples/ef8-15_f4l_f_usm/).

If you watch the "making of" video, you'll see that they used an RC helicopter for one of the shots. If you've been worrying about what to get me for Christmas, one of those would be perfect.

Thanks. Manual focus is easy- you really have to work at it to get anything out of focus. And it will meter fine with the D7000- aren't you getting one of those? I was just using it on the D40 yesterday.

Good stuff Jeff!

That's been my experience also, pretty hard to miss focus. If I'm close enough that I need to move it off infinity, I don't even bother using the VF, I just guess the distance and set focus by the scale. It's faster for me since there is a large margin for error.

I forgot about that! I remember reading that the D7000 wouldn't initially be able to meter some lenses, but you could 'program' it to meter (probably not the correct term of art on that). I didn't quite follow the tech side of that; do you know if it will be able to meter with the D7000 out of the box, or will something need to be done. That really resolves my key concern.

My second concern, with the focus, is really going to seem...odd...but it's for when I take pictures of myself, such as this:
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee68/tbricker/101710002290.jpg

May seem like a minor thing, but I've recently started taking a lot of pictures like this with the fisheye. Although, I suppose if I got the 8-16mm, I could use it for that purpose. Hmmm.

Gdad
10-17-2010, 11:17 AM
IF it operates the way my D700 does then you will have a library of lenses you can program in and the Samyang will operate the same way my AIS lenses do. You have spaces in the menu 1 thru 6 or whatever- that you can program the lens specs- Focal Length, Min F-Stop- then all you have to do is select the lens you are using and control f-stop via the aperture ring. In A-Mode it will meter and expose just like any lens except you are using the old school ring instead of the camera dial to choose your aperture setting. The IF is a big if though- that is the impression I got from reading but I am no authority.

I know for a fact the D300 and D300s behaves this way BTW- I'll respond to that other thread or start a new on on that when I have more time.

Yeah, fisheye manual focus is relatively easy, especially if you stop down a little.

That Samyang seems neat. I'd love to pick one up but it doesn't make any sense to get another fisheye (on top of the 10-17mm and the Zenitar) but it wouldn't be my first redundant lens. :) Manual focus doesn't bother me too much; in fact, I've been trying to hone my manual focusing skills again and have been using MF as much as possible lately.

Some new shots! We skipped the Watkins Glen Vintage Races last year and this year due to my new daughter, but I found that there was a Ferrari Club of America event there the weekend before, so I decided to take her down there for just the day to see how she'd do at the racetrack. (She did very well! It's the camping that we do at the Vintage Races that concerns me more.) We went down on the last day, so I think there were less cars, but it was still a good turnout and relatively cheap admission.

Here's a few fisheyes from the event...

Heh... hadn't noticed that. Looking at the original at 100%, yes, I'm in there and so is Mrs Groucho. :)

It's always fun using a fisheye with cars. I have a whole bunch of photos still to go through from the event but almost all are cars on the track, so few if any fisheyes...

Probably not great examples of the many cool ways a fisheye can be used, but still fisheye photos all the same! :)

The first is the "candy buffet" at my Sister-In-Law's recent baby shower. The second is a shot of the nursery they're decorating for their soon to be daughter/first child.

Gdad, the first shot makes you look a little like some sort of sinister puppeteer. :lmao: Not bad. I saw a couple days ago a place that shaves the lens hoods off APS fisheyes to use on FF - like the Samyang, the 10-17mm, etc. They produce some interesting results.

...

Here's a couple older shots that I don't think I've ever posted... a playground is a fun place for a fisheye. (But then, where isn't?!?) The girl is one of my nieces.

I simply cannot afford a dedicated fish-eye lens for my Canon 50D. I use the 1.8 50mm prime and 17-85 lenses. Does anyone have any recommendations and a fish eye attachment I could get? I know the quality is not quite on par but it's something for now.

Is that really a 15-second exposure? Ie, did you actually set up a tripod in the queue?

I have to admit, I've done a few detail shots in there but never considered a fisheye. A good challenge for the west coast crowd would be the same shot in the DCA version - which has a horrendous outside queue but a very good boiler room, with a two-story boiler with a face.

Yes it is a 15 sec exposure. It was a very slow night last Monday night at the Studios and the CM's let me set up my tripod all throughout the queue (even behind the red velvet rope in the lobby and in both libraries). Definitely a magical moment :).

Heheheh... that's hilarious. :) I've never had the guts to try to do a tripod shot in a queue, though there are a few places that I've thought about trying it. (Including some outdoor areas of the ToT queue.)

Yes there is. If there is a particular title that folks are fond of, PM me and I'll take 'em all into consideration for renaming. Problem is there were many threads where fish-eye photos were being shared so the title got simplified when they were merged.

I think of HDR as something created from multiple image files- and this is not so I would say no. Some folks seem to classify anything with that type processing as HDR though- so who knows. :confused3

I know this thread is for posting shots but, I noticed you have the K-5,
How do you like it? Are there great improvements over the k7?

Alot of the reviews have this beating out the Nikon D3100 or was it the D3000
in that people are impressed with the improvements over the k7 offerings making the K5 a challenger in the semi pro world.

What are your thoughts? you can PM me to keep it off the photo thread...
Will hopefully be upgrading from my 20D within the next few months...just cant afford it right now

Way way OT for the epic Photo sharing: fisheye lenses thread- but yeah I was luke warm on it at best and I posted it because it was turkey day and kid of seemed to fit. Then it made it to Explore on Flickr- which is supposed to highlight the most "Interesting" pictures of any given day. It's kind of a recognition thing I guess and frustrating when you don't feel like it's your best work shown there. I had a handful of other shots in there that were not really my favorites either so I deleted them all- and then kind of purged my photostream in general.

Heh, I did see you posting something about deleting a bunch of old photos. That particular photo was somewhat eye-singeing :) Obviously, I'm not a fan of the Topaz look in any circumstance but that was really something else entirely! I'm glad that's not the direction you're trying to go into. :thumbsup2

What was the story on that? I saw it had been posted but didn't click on it, and it looks like it's deleted now so I don't see the comments. I take it that you didn't care for it, eh? (I'll bite my tongue for now depending on what you say. ;) )

Just to keep on topic, I'll add a shot... hopefully being the last person who shoots fisheye or OWA and doesn't do Topaz-style processing doesn't make me into more of an outcast than I already am!

I think of HDR as something created from multiple image files- and this is not so I would say no. Some folks seem to classify anything with that type processing as HDR though- so who knows. :confused3

I hope we're not the last of a dying breed. :) I much prefer photos that look more natural; there seems to be something about fisheyes and UWAs that is attracting HDR recently all of a sudden though.

Here's a shot that didn't make my original cut, I tweaked it a little and put it in my Flickr account. It's not perfect (the colors are just not what I want) but I wanted something after spending a fair amount of time trying to get the shot. (This was a time when an articulating LCD might have been nice, as I had the camera just about on the ground. I might need to try the shot again next trip...

^I thought about flipping it, but then I thought that might be 'too much' as far as alterations go (eh, I probably should have just done it).

The Samyang (Rokinon) is FANTASTIC! I had some problems with manual focus the first day, but then I met up with Cody the second, and he explained things to me in my (idiot) terms. From there, it was an absolute breeze. I easily prefer it over the Tokina 10-17. For $230, it was a real bargain (and adds even more 'value' to the D7000 for me). Thanks for the recommendation!

The Samyang (Rokinon) is FANTASTIC!I think there might be a lens under the tree for me, and I hope it is that one! I did also put Nikon's 35mm f/1.8 on my list, so it might be that -- or a right-angle viewfinder, which would also be good. But I'd be most excited by a new fisheye.

I'm getting my wife a Nikon 50mm f/1.8, because she always wants to borrow mine ...

I think we all emulate each other's shots, nothing bad there. I've been doing TTA fisheyes for at least four years now. :teeth: I'm pretty sure I've got a fair number of Gdad clones in my collection.

I may have to try the second b/w shot in color, that's an angle that I haven't done since then (or seen anyone do though someone probably has)...

With your shot, I probably would have gotten a little closer, moving the center horizontal line farther up in the frame, which would give it a lot more curve. Right now that section seems a little flat. IMHO with a fisheye, you usually need to throw out most stuff you already know about composition. :)

edit: Looking again at Gdad's and my particular shot, it looks like we were standing in almost exactly the same spot; just pointed the camera in slightly different directions. Pretty funny.

Gdad - I've got probably a couple thousand new fisheye shots, I just need some time to go through them. :) My one and only Spaceship Earth fisheye is remarkably similar to yours (though of course it won't get the HDR treatment), and night shots of the Imagination fountains at night was on the list but I was never able to make it happen. I think there are a fair number of "new" shots as well as some often-done photos and a set that is a blatant copy of some shots and you and Code did after the Disboards Photo Summit 2010.

In terms of light, they're about the same as any other lens... most fisheyes are not very fast (F2.8-F3.5) so you may get slower shutter speeds at night than you would with a fast prime. Of course, the wide angle can hide camera shake so that helps... but I think that most of the night shots you're seeing here are taken with a tripod.

When I was looking to buy this, I did look at the Holga as an option but cheaped out to get the dedicated fisheye. The galleries I saw of people using the Holga with the fisheye also had the circular image, and I think it was actually a full circle, and not cut off top and bottom like mine (mind you I am shooting 35 mm and I believe you would use 120, so that makes some sense).

I have to say I am liking my toy and looking forward to taking it to Disney in March.

Thanks so much. Can't wait to experiment when my new lens arrives.

One of the fun features of the Lomography Fisheye 2 is the ability to do multiple exposures on the same frame easily. My musical son:

The galleries I saw of people using the Holga with the fisheye also had the circular image, and I think it was actually a full circle, and not cut off top and bottom like mine (mind you I am shooting 35 mm and I believe you would use 120, so that makes some sense).

Exactly right- finally got it developed last night. I love Sams Club- 2x 120 rolls for $3 in one hour.

Nice set! Really like the double exposure - very cool! I was wondering what you were doing on digitizing? Are you scanning the negatives yourself or getting a CD with your order from Sam's Club?

Thanks- Sams just does the c41 processing- then I scan from the negatives with an Epson V500. I think it does a pretty good job for the money- HERE (http://www.flickr.com/photos/capturelifeinaction/4893222416/) is a (non-holga) scan with a 100% crop for example.

Nice scanner! I am using this scanner (http://www.ionaudio.com/slides2pc) which I got on sale, and sometimes you get what you pay for :lmao: - I have to try it out with some old slides, but it seems on the soft side on the negatives I have tried out. I might just return it and get a good scanner in the end.:confused3

ETA:
Right after I post I do a couple searches and find a factory refurbished V500 for $89.99 through a reputable Canadian store. I am returning the Ion Slides 2 PC and waiting on Purolator :bored:

Excellent- I think you will like it a lot. I think there is a company that makes a 3rd party film/slide holder for that model which is supposedly better than the one that comes with it but I have never had any problems with mine so I've never bothered with it.

Speaking of this thread... to stay on topic, here's a rather odd shot.
