View Full Version : MNSSHP for adults

So in all the years we've travelled to WDW, we've never done MNSSHP (in fact, we even skipped it on the trip we did when we took our 5 and 7 year old niece and nephew on Halloween night, we just felt it would be overwhelming for them).

We are going mid-September and noticed that MNSSHP starts on Sept. 14 (gee... that seems early doesn't it). This would be the night we would have to attend and we're trying to decide if it would be worth it for 2 adults with no kids.

If you've been to this party, I would appreciate your pros and cons, keeping in mind, we're not huge attraction riders, but we love WDW and do enjoy a good parade (if it's not too crowded and I don't end up with some kid's lollipop stuck to my behind).

I went last year and loved it! I'm going to be in Disney again (solo trip) in October and I'm pretty sure I'll do it again, if I don't do the KTTK tour.

I'd say the Boo to You Parade alone is worth the cost of the ticket. I'm not usually big on the parades, but loved that one - especially the grave diggers.

I also loved that the rides were walk-on.

My DH and I went on our honeymoon in 2008 and will be going again this year because we loved it so much. The Boo to You parade has really been my favorite so far, especially the gravediggers as Practically_Perfect said. There's a really good video of the parade on YouTube if you want to get an idea of what it's like. I also enjoyed seeing the park decked out in Halloween decorations, some of which are out specifically for the party. And though I didn't get my pictures taken with any of the characters (it was my first time at WDW ever, and I was a teensy bit overwhelmed I think) it was great seeing them in their Halloween costumes.

Oh and I have to echo Practically_Perfect again and say the lack of lines for some of the rides were nice. I think we only went on PotC and HM during the actual party, but we were able to do it multiple times with no real wait to speak of.

I'd say that if you like Disney and if you like Halloween, it's good to do at least once.

Good enough for me.... think I'll call and purchase tickets.

Thanks!

(As tempted as I am to watch the BTY parade on youtuve, I'm going to refrain. I want the first time I see it to be "live" and a surprise) :)

Another huge perk is that you get to meet some of the better characters. At MNSSHP you are much more likely to stumble across Maleficent, the greatest fairy, than at any other time of year. Oh, and a lot of the other villains are there too.

If you're not an attraction person, even better. I wouldn't waste the time on the attractions when there is so much you can do that is party oriented already. Though I would hit the Haunted Mansion at least, since the CMs are all themed for the party and really get to have fun with it ^_^
The parade is great, the fireworks are fun from the hub or in Fantasyland, there are characters you never get to see usually and September dates are very relaxing with a light crowd.

Do you like free candy? You get plenty of that as well.
The parade is great.
I also enjoyed the mix and mingle show with the Villains in front of the castle.
You really should experience at least once. I have done it two times and I will be going again in Sept. I am still not sure if I'm going to rebook it for this year.

It is worth seeing as a first timer!!! :wizard:

I love doing MNSSHP! Its a blast... free candy, the boo to you parade is really awesome, no line wait, the park is all decked out in halloween decor.. and, the best part, you get to dress up and go trick or treating:cool1:.. its like being 8 years old all over again, and theres tons of adults that do it.

Oh, i really liked when I read 'there's tons of adults doing it' b/c I fully want to have a blast and wear a halloween costume...
Where can I find in Orlando area, near to WDW property adult costumes stores?
Thanks!

DH and I have been numerous times and we love it. What we like best about MNSSHP are the parade and fireworks, getting photos with the characters in their Halloween costumes and of course trick or treating for the free candy :goodvibes

Got my tickets!
Thanks for all the great posts :flower3:

Since it's the very first MNSSHP night of the year and it's in mid Sept. we're looking forward to hopefully very light crowds that evening.

We'll for sure do Haunted Mansion (how could we not) and see the parade, fireworks and do some photo-oping with the Villains.

We do NOT do costumes, so we'll pass on that.

Will the Fantasyland rides be open? We could use this as an opportunity to do Peter Pan and Small World (which are almost always crowded during normal park hours).

We went last year and had a blast!
It was me, my dh, my cousin and her hubby. We're all in our mid/late twenties.
We wore costumes and loved the fact that we could walk on to alll of the rides.
POTC and Haunted Mansion were the best for obvious reasons.

I actually just threw out a bag of candy from last year's party. http://thesop.org/attachments/2009-004/embarrassed-smiley-20158.jpg
The candy wasn't that great but we were some of the last people out of the park and the CMs were just dumping their entire bags into my bag at the gate. Chocolate eyeballs for everyone!!
:rotfl:

The parade was INCREDIBLE. Best parade I have ever seen at Disney and I have seen A LOT of parades.

The fireworks were awesome too.

PLUS There are characters that you don't really get to see during the day/regular time of the year which was really awesome.

ETA: PINS!! There are event only pins which is one of the main reasons DH and I are doing it again this year.

We were a group of 5 adults and we all had a blast!!!! We walked onto POTC and the line for the Haunted Mansion wasn't too bad. Loved seeing all the characters in costume and the "special" CMs (ie - the Hitchhiking Ghosts) wandering around. I missed the parade b/c I was in line to meet Pooh (who left just as I got to the front! Aargh!) but my friends loved it. The fireworks were outstanding!

Have an amazing time!

OP - we're neighbours! I'm from Vancouver!

My Hubs and I wouldn't miss this!!! We are an adult couple with no kids. We wouldn't miss it for the WORLD!!!!!! - I am waxing sentimental at this moment, because We aren't able to go this year.... Have a blast!!! P.S. My profile pic is from MNSSHP last year, we found the best photo ops. We went on Sept 11, which is why we have the shirts!

As djblu883 stated - September is usually hot. DH & I usually have Halloween shirts and it is fine. Last year I put Jafar on the back of a lightweight shirt for him and me, my DD and friend all had matching Halloween shirts and candy bag that my DD made. Get into the spirit by wearing glowing necklaces you brought from home.

If you get tired, just people watch! There are lots of awesome customes around both adult & kids.

There are also event tee-shirts that are sold only at the party along with the pins.

This is one event that I have been attending for the past 4 years and a must do for us! DH & I have given MNSSHP tickets as anniversary gifts for the past 3 years to DD & SIL. Yes, DD has gone as many as 3 times one year!

I think you will enjoy MNSSHP very much!

Thank you so much for all of your kind and wonderful reponses. We are booked for the first MNSSHP of the year (we would have liked to book the next one rather than the very first party of the year, but it was the night before we leave and we have to be up at 4:30 am).

All of your posts have us very excited and looking forward to the evening:banana:

I'll post about our own experience after our trip.

Thanks again

One thing that I didn't see mentioned in the thread is that you can get into Magic Kingdom at 4pm with your MNSSHP tickets. My family went last year in September and every ride was walk on. We rode every ride we wanted to during those 3 hours before the party started. And then we started Trick or Treating right at 7pm. We had a blast!!! The parade was awesome. And I will also chime in about the Gravediggers. Loved 'em! I would definitely keep the costumes to lightweight. It will be hot and humid in September.

I'm currently planning a trip and if I go in October (solo) i'm definitely going!!! I went to the Christmas Party with my mom (me 28 yrs old her 55 yrs old) and it was AMAZING!!! Worth every penny!! I can imagine the halloween party is that way too!

You should go in costume, even if you are not costume people. It's Disney, and it just helps you feel a little more of the magic. Believe me keep it simple and you will not have a regret. Sprinkling Pixie Dust.

.... for the first time in my October trip! In fact, I'm thinking to go twice. I haven't bought tickets yet, but I don't think they will sell out. :rotfl:

I hear the MNSSHP is the greatest party in town. :goodvibes

Any tips where to buy adult-size costumes for the party, either somewhere at WDW or malls around WDW
Thanks

i think this will be my 4th year at the MNSSHP. We don't trick or treat and we love it. It's so much fun to see the little ones all excited and dressed up.

We wore costumes last year and it was soooo hot...I don't know what we'll do this year.

We love the parade and the fireworks...definitely worth the $.

Oh, now that is sweet! I love childlike adults and precocious children because both are so often so creative. That is reason enough to set aside "Act your age."

We are doing MNSSHP for the first time this year (bought tix for 3 nights and we are still thinking about going a fourth) We have done P&PP as well as MVMCP and were impressed with both. Can't wait for this one! Now if we could decide on costumes...:rolleyes1

I went to the one in CA two years ago (best part was the photo with M&M that I have as my avatar!) and it was "ok" but not great. Mostly all about the candy. The parade there was good too. So when I booked our vacation for this year, I didn't think about doing the Halloween party. We arrive on the 30th of October. I am now considering it, but have a couple questions:

A previous poster mentioned that you can get into the park with the Halloween Party ticket at 4PM. Do you ALSO need a park admission ticket on TOP of that? For the CA Party, you had to have a valid park ticket PLUS the Halloween Party ticket. If the Halloween ticket is the only one I need, then it's a no brainer because we won't have to use a whole day on our park hoppers (we currently plan to just hang out at the resort on arrival evening).

Second question: Is the whole MK open or just selected rides and attractions?

Thanks for any help you can give!

The park is a lot less crowded for Halloween Parties than the regular day admissions. I know, I used to work as a Park Greeter at the gates of MK. There is usually about 15,000+ people where a usual day is Sept/Oct is 35,000+.

The BTY parade is amazing especially the gravediggers with their shovels! So cool! Also, the special fireworks are perimeter firework which will go off all around the MK. There is candy stations all over to grab some goodies and, if things have not changed, you get a free photo that they will take with a spooky frame around the pic. Frame is like the one's you get for Tower of Terror.

Most of the rides are open but the shows are not unless specified. Costumes are the most fun. Let me tell you, as a CM, that was the best part of the night! Watching all the children and adults in costumes come into the park.

If you are already in the park but are staying for the MNSSHP, you need to go to the front of the park, have the Park Greeter run your tickets and they will give you wristbands for this event.

For entry into the park at 4pm, you should ONLY NEED YOUR MNSSHP TICKET!! Unless things have changed drastically, that is all that you need.

I don't know about any codtume places directly around there or on Disney property other than outfits for little children. I would check around 172 in Kissimmee. There is always Walmart that you can go to in a jam to pick up a last minute halloween costume. Happy Haunting and see you there!! :)
