Having never been to CA, and don't know if we'll ever get there again, would you suggest a day touring Hollywood or going to the Palm Springs Desert air tram? Thanks for your input!, counting down the days and need to make decisions!!:)

I haven't been to Hollywood, but have a very full touring day planned for July.
I have been on the Palm Springs tram. It is about a 20 min ride up. We planned late afternoon so it wasn't too hot and so we could come down after dark and experience that as well. The views are beautiful and you can do hikes from the top of the tram. There is a visitor center at the bottom. The food was absolutely the worst we have ever had. We did a dinner package. The food is run by an outside company and not associated with the Tram. Our dinner was terrible cafeteria style served food. You can take a picnic to enjoy up there.

Other than the tram in Palm Springs I don't know what you would do there.
While in Hollywood you can see many landmarks and see many street entertainers.

If I was going for "experiencing California," I thinking I'd vote for Hollywood. The Palm Springs tramway is very nice, but one reason people go up in it is that the area at the top is very different than most of Southern California, at least without serious hiking to get there. Cool and wooded. Great views, though.
Plus it's a long drive out to Palm Springs to do one thing; in Hollywood/LA you could do several activities in the same amount of time. Depending on traffic, Hollywood is less than an hour drive from DLR vs. about two hours out to Palm Springs.
