How is this legal??

We had NO long-distance because I couldn't find one that justified how little we would use it...then I chose SPrint because when I got my cell they offered me 50 FREE minutes...Verizon charged me $5 for picking Sprint...HOW???...arrrgh!! Just sent an email of complaint. Now I cancelled Sprint because I found out there might be tax payments and such...not worth the hassle...THere better not be a VERIZON charge for that!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's perfectly legal for the carrier you're changing from to charge you a switch fee. I'm assuming you changed carriers from Verizon to Sprint. Call Sprint -- they should have sent you a check to cover the $5.00 switch charge. Then again, they may not do so now that you cancelled them.

Did you return to Verizon? If so, have them remove the $5.00 switch charge because you're back with them. But Sprint may charge you for leaving them.....

I agree that Sprint should have paid for it. If you switch to one of the small companies, they don't usually pay, but the big ones do.

Long distance is a big hassle. I had somebody from AT&T call the other night and try to trick me into switching. He just started talking about how I was going to have all these new benefits, and then I remembered that I had recently changed from AT&T to another company. I didn't fall for it, but an elderly person would have.

I DID NOT SWITCH...We have NO long-distance for a year. Verizon is just for local calls.
