Here's something new to read

We just got back from OKW one week ago (3/31). Had a great stay and our room was fine with a few little problems (light burned out, no potholders).
One evening, my DD found one of those little lizards on the wall, near the ceiling. She locked herself in the bathroom and said she wasn't coming out until it was caught. DH called Maintenance and I was assigned to watch said lizard until someone came. Little lizard made a move into the shades and would have stayed there except DH shined a light on him, but at least lizard stayed in the window. Those little guys really move fast.
When maintenenace arrived, he attached two glue boards to the top of a long stick. one across the top and one around the stick, so the whole top 8 inches or so of the stick was sticky. Then he very quickly jabbed at the lizard with the stick. Caught him on the first try. He said that was good because they are so fast, you sometimes don't get a second try..

Good to know there is a "lizard patrol" to call if needed!

A few years back I was told they started not putting the pot holders in automatically (same with dish towels). Seems folks love to take 'em home.

We once had a little gecko in our OKW condo. (A gecko is a lizard with "suction cup" paws; they walk on walls and ceilings, and even on smooth glass windows.)

I've been told that the gecko is a symbol of good luck to people in Hawaii. So the gecko was a welcome guest in our room.

The little lizards are very common in Florida and will not harm you. My nephew likes to catch them and let them go because it is hard to catch them by hand. They are, however, great insect eaters and when we lived in Florida we did all that we could to keep them in the yard.

hi to all: you'll see the little lizards/geckos all over wdw, not just okw. when my boys were younger, they always tried ot catch one but never succeeded.

All the times we stayed at OKW we never had a lizard in our room.

A couple of years ago we were staying on Turtle Pond Rd at OKW and guess what we saw?! Yes, a huge turtle that must have been making its way across the street and then decided to stop and rest. Traffic was stopped and some sort of "pest control" vehicle came and moved the turtle via a large net back into the pond. All the kids were relieved that he was saved! :)

My two DS's saw them all the time when we were at VB. They kept trying to catch them (they are fast). They wanted to catch one and bring it back to the room to keep as a pet and bring it back to NY. They never did catch one and thats a good thing because I would have had to "put my foot down" on bringing it back to NY. ;)

Our last stay at OKW we had a couple little tiny frogs in our bathtub!

Saw some lizards in one of the lounges at Pleasure Island.

They weren't small. They weren't fast. They could really drink!

We have seen lots of these little critters around the grounds all over Disney. We enjoy watching them, but have never had them in our OKW room. Perhaps a child from another visit wanted a "pet" too! We did have lots of trouble with the little see through geckos on the ceiling and walls the last time we were in Hawaii.

We've never had any critters inside the room (except a very fast duck that almost made it in through the porch door), but once we had a toad living in the siding. It was the corner next to the door, and the toad was tucked inbetween the edgings on the siding. He moved up and down about a foot, but he was there the whole week.

Speaking of little critters, we had a HUGE spider in our room at Vero (beach cottage). I'm talking HUGE here. My best size comparison would be to think of the size of a McDonald's cheeseburger. This sucker was that big. The body was probably the size of a silver dollar and there were huge legs. This was not a daddy-long-legs it was an actual spider.

It was on the side of the armoire and then it ran behind it. I panicked - called the front desk and they sent a large pest control man. Have you seen the size of these armoires? He moved it by himself, found the spider after a few minutes of spraying some stuff "to freak her out", and killed her. He then told us that it was just a house spider - and he has seen bigger. Yikes! We are from New England - a house spider is tiny this was something I would see in a cage at a zoo!

We didn't notice a lizard in our room at BWV last week but we had the balcony doors open and the sheer curtain drawn in the living room when a bird suddenly flapped through the curtain! I open the curtain to let him/her see a clear way out but in the mean time the bird circled into the bedroom and out the other door! I was trying to get my son up at the time and told him Disney has interesting cuckoo clocks!
