My two sons, 12 & 15, want to take their scooters to OKW. I have told them that they can take them IF we have room in our big duffle. I don't want to take them and I don't plan on leaving room in the bag. The kids on roller blades at the Boardwalk drive me crazy, I am sure scooters would be just as annoying and I am also worried about safety issues in the parking lots at OKW.
Please let me know your opinions.
Thanks.

I'd be interested when you saw kids on blades on the boardwalk my experience has been just the opposite....I've scene the kids on razors. I've never seen the rollerbladers but I'm sure my reaction would be the same as the kids on razors...they drive me crazy. They don't seem to be paying any attention to the people just walking on the boardwalk.

We were at OKW in January 2001, and there were several kids on scooters there. personally I found it annoying. I also thought it was dangerous, with the busses and all. I don't necessarily think that people are expecting kids on scooters in a vacation spot (as they would driving through neighborhoods in their hometown), and I think there's more of a chance for injury.

Kids on blades or scooters don't really bother me. I think traffic in OKW moves slower then in most home town neighborhoods. I'd also rather see kids outside of scooters then inside watching TV or playing video games.

There is a note in the "Keynotes" - provided at OKW at check-in. It states that according to FL law, in-line skates are not allowed on roadways and parking areas. OKW invites guests to call the desk for suggestions about safe places to use the rollerblades. There is no mention of the scooters.

We just returned from OKW today (sigh.....) and experienced a couple of boys on wheels.
One of them was in a quiet parking lot for 3-4 hours during the day and was quite responsible. Whenever a vehicle approached, he would check to see if they were turning in. If it did, he quickly got out of the way. He even talked briefly with my son. Actually, I was very impressed with his attitude!
The others were "scootering" along the main path in front of Hanks & the boat launch. Even though they were observant, I had to keep our 8 yr old son from wandering into their path accidentally. Tony Hawk could have manuevered it successfully but these kids were a little out of their league with the pedestrian traffic.
I don't see any problem with taking boards, scooters, or blades. If done responsibly, they can have a great time!

Thanks for your responses.
The rollerbladers were there last year during our Spring Break. They were older teens, 17-18, playing lazer tag. We saw them several times.
Thanks again.
