We have just booked :cool1::cool1: And we are a little excited :lmao:

There are four of us in our family, we are:

Helen (mum)
Phil (dad)
Daniel (13)
Amy (5)

We recently went on the Magic around the Med and had the most amazing time. It was lovely meeting fellow Dis'ers and the kids loved doing FE's so hopefully we can sort some great fun stuff out for this cruise :)

Have you been on DCL before? We are so excited, we have never been to Mexico so it will be even more exciting for us!

We have! This will be our 3rd, but we haven't been on the boat in 3 years. Actually, we've been on the Magic twice but never the Wonder. My profile picture is from our first cruise when our now-7 year old wa 3 :)

We went on the Magic as well. Only been once though and that was last month but we are hooked now.

:yay:

We're joing you! We've never been on a cruise before and I just convinced my husband to do this last month. We looked for the cheapest dates and were originally scheduled to go on the 1/23 boat. Prices came down and we moved to this sailing (2/27/11). I'm hopeful that the water in Mexico will be a bit warmer with the date change.

We have twins who just turned six last week. Girls.

DH and I aren't really Disney people (shh, it's a secret), but when looking into cruise info, Disney truly seems to be a fabulous fit for our family and even though we aren't Disney folks, our girls are .

We also are  about the KSF promo. We now figure we have enough to do the dolphin swim if we want!

Not sure that we'll be doing the FE. I think that's more than I'm capable of. I'm not at all crafty and I think we'll sit that part out.

We'll be coming from Washington state, BTW.

Welcome Kirbo and Andromeda9mm :welcome:

I'm so glad we wont be alone :)

I just priced the holiday up again for my friend and it has gone up now, there are no cat 11's left. Amazing how a KGF offer makes the staterooms sell :thumbsup2

Kirbo I'm not very crafty either but we did FE's on our last cruise and it made the holiday just a little more magical. My kids loved getting back to our stateroom to check the FE.

I need to work out how to have a countdown on my signature now, any ideas anyone or has anyone got one for this cruise that they don't mind sharing with me?

Kirbo

I just did the basic signature countdown, I don't know any other way. I went to a website, plugged in my info and then copied the address they gave me and posted it here. But others here have way fancier siggies that are really different and I don't know how they got them.

Honestly, the FEs sound fun, but I do think we'll be sitting them out. I'll let you know if we change our minds.

Oh man, how'd I miss this post?!?! I started a new one a few days ago thinking that I was sailing solo so far. Hooray to our cruise meet group starting!!!

Copying and pasting what I wrote:

I just booked this cruise and I am holding back the tears! I can't believe that we get to go on a Disney cruise!!!

I'm telling everyone now - I'm all in for making this cruise one to remember! I love vacation planning and I love doing all the little things that make Disney special. At Disneyworld, my family wears matching t-shirts, Tinker Bell brings little gifts every night and our room is completely decked out!

So I'll start things out -

I'm Michelle (31), my husband is Bryan (32) and our kiddos are Krissy (6) and Miles (4). We are from Indianapolis, IN.

Let's get this party going!!!

We did all three of the ports this past January on an NCL cruise, but it rained (actually poured, the locals said it was extremely unusual) for 2 of the port days. We are looking forward to getting back there - and of course on a much cooler ship this time!

We just registered for teh Feb 27th cruise too!!

This is our second cruise. Our first was in March 2010 on the Magic and we LOVED it.

This cruise is going to be a surprise to our kids. They will have no idea. We are pulling them out of school for this cruise to avoid the Spring Break rush. Airfare doubles up here that week. We live in Alaska.

Travelers will be:
Me, DH and DS (11) and DD (7).

We are telling them we are going to DisneyLand, which we will be doing, before the cruise. Then we will get on the ship.
So excited!!!!!

On our last cruise my DS didn't get back to the room most nights till 1am but I have seen that on this one it will be more like 2am! Thank god he has got his own key because I'll be needing my beauty sleep at that kinda time :rotfl:

Very excited to have booked this sailing! We are the Washington family from Inglewood, CA:

Adrienne (will be 41 at sailing)
Harold (will be 44)
Dexter (turning 9 the day we sail!)
Celeste (is now and will be 5)

One prior DCL experience, a fantastic double-dip Western in Sept 2008 on the Magic. Swore I'd never pay DCL prices again, but this Kids Sail Free promotion made me pull the trigger. We mostly cruise Carnival, which the kids love, but they'll be excited to be back on Disney again. At this point I'm planning to keep it a surprise, since we set sail on my son's 9th birthday - what a surprise that would be!

We just booked today too! I have 1 boy who will be 7 on the cruise...glad to see more happy faces joining!!

No way! HEATHER!!! We get to cruise together again!!! :yay:  We'll have to share MexRiv homeschool plans. :thumbsup2

What a lovely surprise for your Son's birthday. Make sure you tell DCL that it is his birthday on that day. They will make it extra special for him. I had my birthday while we were on our last cruise and it was so magical.....And the cake was gorgeous :yay::yay:

I am so excited for my daughter now. She'll be 7 on the cruise and it looks like she'll have lots of "friends" coming from this board! We have cruised on NCL numerous times and she has been bummed by the lack of kids her age in the kids' crew. I know it is completely different on DCL and she is going to be sooooooo happy!!!

Hmmmm anyone interested in having the like-aged kids do a penpal thing for these months before the cruise?

There will be loads of kids and yours definitely wont be bored!

My little girl is nearly 5 and my son nearly 13. I'm sure they would both love to do penpal stuff, what a great idea. Maybe for the older ones we could open a trip thread for them to post on and all get to know each other?

Hi Arin! Drea (anewmac) and her family are considering this sailing as well... this is turning into quite a DDD reunion cruise! :cool1: (We called our Sept 27 - Oct 4 Western double-dip on the Magic the "Double Dip Delight" or DDD for short. Yes, it's lame. But it was fun. ;) )

Re flights: there are advantages to both LAX and LGB. LAX is bigger and will likely have more flight options, unless you're flying JetBlue. LGB is small and efficient and very managable, and JetBlue rules supreme there. Very low-key and easy airport. I'd put them approximately equidistant from the port at San Pedro; no significant difference afa travel to/from port.

I'm local to the area - I live about 8 miles from LAX and work about 8 miles from LGB - so I'm happy to answer questions as best I can. :goodvibes

Edited to add: Here is my little family on the DDD cruise Sept 2008:

I think there are a couple roll calls started for our cruise?? Is there a way to combine them?

Anyway, we just booked our cruise yesterday on the KFMR rate - what a great deal! It'll be:
Myself - Jen
Hubby - Paul
Daughter - Alexa (5yr)
Daughter - Kayla (2.5yr)

We'll be flying in from PDX (I think I saw someone else flying out of Portland).

I'm sooooo excited about this cruise. My husband and I cruised 10 years ago on RC, and we're going on another cruise in a week and a half on CC to celebrate our 10yr wedding anniversary.

The girls have never been on a cruise. I'm hoping they'll do okay on the ship (no seasickness). And I'm a bit worried about the younger one and the characters - she's not a fan of them right now. I'm wondering if I can get her acclimated to big costumes by Feb 2011. :)

Two bags fly free per person on SWA and only one flies free per person on JetBlue. I'm a pretty loyal SWA traveler, but I do *love* JetBlue for the roomy seats and in-seat satellite TV. :thumbsup2 And flying into/out of LGB is a dream, except for the fact it's 25 miles farther from me than LAX.

If the prices were the same, I would switch my loyalty to JetBlue in a heartbeat. But I'm too cheap to pay extra to fly them. ;)

We are booked! I still can't believe as of right now this cruise is fully booked. Our friends are trying to get on it as well, so we'll see if any opens up. Anyway, a little bit about us:

Me: Deanna
DH: Drew
DS: (12 at time of cruise) Nick
DS: (8 at time of cruise) Connor

This will be our 4th Disney cruise and booked on the spur of the moment b/c of the ksf promo. We live in New Hampshire but are originally from California (which I miss!) We are also booked on the Dream next July, so can't wait to see the new ship!

For those looking at different airports, you can also try Orange County (SNA). We will looking at fares from LAX, Long Beach & SNA to get the best deal. Right now it looks like SNA, but I think I am going to wait a while in hopes of better fares. I know my kids would prefer jetblue, but again, they are usually not the best prices.

Glad to be joining you all...I'm sure we will have a great time!

Hello. New to the board, and new to cruising!!

I have just paid the deposit for a Cat 9 on the 27th February cruise.

Was hoping to get a Cat 11 but dithered for too long and missed out!

Anyway, I have followed disney-lover over here from another forum and have decided to join up. I don't know her personally, nor have I ever spoken to her in person, but hopefully will get to meet her on this cruise (don't worry, I'm not a mad stalker although it probably sounds like I am!!).

Hoping to get lots of tips both for a newbie cruiser and for this cruise in particular. :thumbsup2

So I've been looking at airfares for this. From PDX to somewhere down south. And it looks as if everyone charges for luggage :sad1:. Except for Southwest and they aren't showing their flights for Feb/March yet. When did they all start charging?:headache: Looking at dummy fares on JetBlue vs Southwest, I looked at 10/16-10/24, if you pay for the extra baggage through JB, they come out cheaper than SW. So I may just take the JB since we've never flown them before.

What hotels are you all looking at?

I'm such a newbie to this stuff and feeling a bit overwhelmed, even though it's not for another eight months :lmao:

:thumbsup2

:yay::yay::yay:

Welcome onboard hun, so glad you managed to book. So excited to see you on here :woohoo::woohoo:

You'll get loads of good info on here and I found that being on here before our last cruise made it better and the kids loved meeting other kids.

Hi All!
I just booked this cruise and this will be our third one! Cant wait, Mexico will be so much nicer than NJ in Feb! We just came off of the May 5th Med trip (HI HI DISNEY - LOVER!) We have 7 coming along on this trip: Me-JaJa, Husband-Shawn, Son -3yr Kyle, My parents Judy and Tom and Shawn's parents Leslie and Harvey! Cant wait to do the FE, couldnt do it on the last cruise, as luggage was a limitation!

So so glad to see all you and looking forwards to this trip!

Hi hunni,

It will be lovely chatting to you again and planning another cruise together.

I just had a quick look at the FE thread and it looks like there are a few taking part so far. On the last cruise there was only a few rooms so it looks like there will be more this time :)

What is the weather likely to be like in Los Angeles at the time of the cruise? If all plans come together am hoping to spend a few days there first possibly doing disney park and/or other attractions before the cruise.

I will definitely be joining the fish extender thread as well, I know what they are but have no idea what gifts you buy to put in them (I take it there are some ideas on the thread?)!

Our party for the cruise is:

Me (Jody) - age 35
Dominic - age 13
Isabelle - age 12

There's loads of threads on here for FE ideas. I'm not going to say what I did last time because I am planning on doing the same again for this cruise but some ideas are: sweets, stickers, magnets, anything personalised, glow sticks (prirate night), colouring stuff, anything disney. There's just a few ideas for you.

LOL! Your guess is as good as mine. I have lived here my entire life and we always seem to get a 90 degree heat wave for a few days in February. It could be rainy and cold (50-60 degrees) or it could be sunny in the 70s. Whatever it is, it will probably be head and shoulders better than what the rest of the country will be experiencing in February.

February 27th is my son's birthday, so I happen to recall the weather on that day very easily. ;) It has not rained on that date since he's been born (now 8yo). The past two years it's been mid-60s in the morning and into the mid-to-high 70s after lunch. I'm expecting beautiful weather for the time surrounding our cruise!

So the weather in LA will be mixed, that will be fun packing light for then! Think we will probably just take our normal holiday clothes and then a jacket. To us in the UK 60's and 70's isn't so bad.

I've had a look at the weather for the cruise and it looks like it will be ok, hopefully nice and warm for us all :)

If you bring a jacket, you don't need more than a light one for Southern California. I never wear anything heavier than a sweatshirt here except for maybe one or two days a year.

I'm the worlds worst packer, tend to pack for every eventuality!

When I went to Florida 3 years ago also in Feb I assumed it would be warm/hot, so only packed one jumper and one long pair of trousers. It was flipping freezing for a week with frost, so had to go shopping to buy some warmer clothes!! :rotfl:

Hi everyone!

I'm so happy to finally have found this thread. Thanks disney-lover! I kept going to the 2011 Wonder Meets thread, waiting for a link and nothing was showing up.

We were planning on booking the Dream for Feb 2011 and then jumped on the KSF promo. We started with a Cat 11 but then I decided we would probably need a split-bath for 4 people, so we upgraded to a Cat 10b. I've asked our travel agent to keep looking for Jan dates for us, but I'm thinking that considering how quickly everything sold out, we are probably here to stay with the Feb. 27th date.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone! We have lots of time. I'm in no rush for it to go by quickly because I'm trying to hold on to every second of having young children. Time is already going by too quickly.

Our cruise cast:
me - 32 - computer/system analyst - Disney-obsessed (just started 2 years ago during our first WDW trip)
DH - 34 - computer/system analyst - Says he did Disney once and he liked it but he doesn't want to do it again for a few more years. (bah!)
DD6 - Keira - Already circling Oceaneer Club/Lab kids activities from 2008 MR Navigators.
DD3 - Maya - Our sweet little baby. Probably has no idea how far off the cruise is.

Our girls will be 7 and 4 for the cruise.

Laura,

Fish extenders is something that hangs from your fish outside the door, everybody that adds in we do a FE swap, little gifts for all in the cabin. Since you don't have a craft bone in your body, if you want to do it let me know, I will make you and Mason's cabin a fish extender, but you have to plan the gifts. If you do a fish extender search, you'll get more info, and also ideas of what other members have given and received as gifts. I know I am excited, and I know the kids will love it!

Hi !!

Hey will you "head up" the FE exchange and database. As this is my first cruise, I don't feel comfortable doing it, but am excited to participate. Even though we still have a bit... :woohoo: before we cruise, at some point will we not accept any more? or just accept the cabin as a whole? I am starting to plan ideas, and since it will take me 6 months to get everything done.. hee hee:rotfl:, I just want to make sure I have a good list! I would be glad to assist, just don't know what to do!

Thanks,

Hiya,

Of course I will. I will continue to add to the first page on the FE thread as and when newbies join and then nearer the time I will sort a list out for everyone. On our last cruise I organised that everyone had a day in which they gave out their pressies, it meant that you got gifts every day not all at once. That way worked really well so I thought I'd probably do the same again nearer the time :)

Yes you need to sign up on the other thread.
The gifts don't have to be disney themed, they can be anything. No higher or lower value, it is entirely up to you. I will be giving a gift for each child and one for each room but again it is entirely up to you how much you want to participate.

FEs are so fun! I would also like to do a Secret Mickey exchange - similar to a Secret Santa exchange, you are assigned one participating cabin to make/buy a gift for. We took the getting-to-know-you questionnaire from our Secret Mickey family and put together a little goodie for them for each day of the cruise, with their actual SM gift delivered on the final night. It's an opportunity to do something a little more in-depth for ONE cabin vs. across the board with FEs... we enjoyed doing both!

I am hoping someone else will want to organize Secret Mickey (LOL) but if not I will do it. I'll wait another month or so before starting sign-ups. :goodvibes

I definitely think it's a good idea to put a deadline on joining FE. We had a handful of people join our roll call at the last minute and it was understandably too late for those who were making elaborate FE gifts or had purchased only a certain number of items. Those people elected to join in knowing they might not get a gift from every single FE cabin... but we had so many families participating and got so much great stuff, I don't think they minded!

Ah I like the idea of a secret mickey, never heard of it before but think it is a good idea. So do you have a certain amount to spend or is it unlimited?

I think with the FE's we should close it a couple of months before we travel so say Christmas time, that should give us plenty of time to get sorted and also give any late comers time to join.

AQW
06-23-2010, 10:23 AM
We had a suggested minimum amount on our Secret Mickey gift - I think it was $15? But it's really up to the participating family... if you're making something really awesome and the materials don't happen to add up to $15, who cares?

I just started my first planning spreadsheet for this cruise - not excursion info, not a packing list, but a document to track what I want to sew for my kids! :rotfl: I get to do that ever-so-dangerous dance between sewing early (so I can finish everything in time) and waiting as long as possible (so they don't hit an unexpected growth spurt).

We're going on another cruise (Carnival Freedom out of FLL) in October, so I might just plan to start sewing for this cruise after we get back from that one. I won't be sewing for that trip, so I have plenty of time to plan outfits for the Feb voyage! :thumbsup2

I'm in the drive-my-spouse-crazy stage, talking about the cruise daily. :rolleyes1 Poor guy. Busy reading cruise trip reports and watching this thread. :surfweb: We also did the obligatory Home Depot mickey mouse head magnets for our fridge yesterday. I cut them out and DD3 stuck the magnets on. That is as crafty as we will ever get at our house. A little too crafty for me, actually. If anyone outside of Canada or the US wants some Home Depot mickey heads, let me know and I can mail some to you.

Meredith, I had to giggle at your FE vs. the bar reply. If it was a 3 or 4 night cruise, I might not do an FE, but definitely think it will be fun for a 7 night cruise. I might be up for the secret santa/mickey gift.

Hello everyone,

Our friends finally got a cabin on this cruise today! We have been looking for the past week and were very excited that one actually showed up! They will have a DS who will be 13 at cruise time and DD who will be 10. I have been looking up things to do at the different ports and really want to do a zip line tour I found in Puerto Vallarta. Looks like a lot of fun and something the whole family can do. We also might go to Stone Island at Mazatlan and do some horsback riding. Our kids do not know about this cruise and we are hoping to keep it a secret until we actually get there. We have told them we will be going out to see my parents who live in Palm Desert, so that is our cover. They will be surprised to say the least.

We were planning on telling them at christmas but last time round they both got really involved with the planning so thought christmas would be too late. Then we thought after the summer but decided against that because we will explode if we don't tell them soon. So we have decided to tell them for their birthdays. I can't wait to see there faces :lmao: Good luck trying to wait till christmas to tell your kids.

I'm debating when to tell our kids too. My first thought was to keep it a secret until we arrived at the port - since we set sail on my son's birthday, that would be EPIC! :thumbsup2 But talk about setting the bar high - I can imagine my daughter's face two months later when there's no cruise on HER birthday. :rotfl: Besides, I surprised them with a cruise once before... didn't tell them where we were going until we crested the hill looking into the port of San Diego and they saw the Carnival funnel. It was awesome. :goodvibes

We did the Christmas surprise thing in 2007 (Disney cruise) and 2008 (WDW)... might go for that again, not sure. My husband wants to tell them right away so he can use it as a carrot for good behavior.

In the Home Depot's paint section, they have Disney paint chips shaped like a Mickey Mouse head. Sometimes in trip reports, you will see people have made magnets out of the paint chips by attaching a magnet to back of the Mickey Head. I used to see a lot about them on Disboards, but maybe not so much now. We happened to be at HD on Monday so I grabbed some while my dh was shopping.

Has anyone started shopping yet? We haven't but I have been checking out customized Disney shirts and some of the boutique-style girls Disney outfits you can get on Etsy. I was also checking out the FE thread with ideas for Canadians, so we can bring some items that aren't available in the U.S. They had some good ideas! :woohoo:

Can someone give me some ideas of things to do and places to stay beforehand? Don't really want to do the disney park, trying to keep costs down, and have done Florida and will obviously get a disney fix on the cruise!

Would like to do Universal studios, and also show the kids the Hollywood sign. Any other must do cheapish activities?

Am thinking of flying out on maybe the Tuesday the week before, so got plenty of time to do things and get settled in. Have some priority points I can use for hotels.

Main thing for me is how to get around, if I hire a car what do I do with at the port, will it be cheaper to pay for hire and parking whilst on cruise and return car to airport, or do I return it beforehand then get some kind of transport to port and then back to airport?

Any suggestions most welcome!!

OOOh, our group is growing! Love it. Can't wait to meet y'all and have a drink! And best of all, share the love of Disney! So since we have 7 months, I thought we could start a get to know you game.... Everyone play along!

The ABC's of me:

A- "awesome adventure" you've done or would like to do on this cruise?

B- Breakfast. Yum! what's your favorite.. on or off ship.

C- Children.. Tell about your young'ins.

D- Disney. (of course) what is your favorite Disney memory.

E- Embarrassing moment. Everyone has one.. come on, do tell.

F- Fish extenders. Ok as a newbie, if you've cruised, tell the best gift you've received or what would you like to see in that pocket outside your door?

G- Guilty pleasure. Do tell.....

Ok, I will start. My name is Rachel and I am a proud Disney-aholic.
A-This is my first cruise, so I am excited for everything. My husband and I are planning to renew our vows on the beach in MX, so we are excited about that. We are looking into ziplining, and although I am afraid of heights... (side note, ask Laura or Meri- also on this thread about me falling down a mtn.) I am excited to do it.. hope it fits "squishy peeps"

B-I love pecan and banana pancakes.

C- Mackenzie, 15 Taylor, 12 ( girls) and Jarrett, 8. They don't know yet, but they will be so excited. They love Disney too.. I am planning a scavenger hunt soon to tell them, yeah!

D- I have been to Disneyland many times, and I love it each and every time. I love it more as a mom, to watch the excitement through my kids eyes. I think that, last Sept we went to DL at halloween time and my Taylor LOVES nightmare before xmas, she met jack and sally, that was her priority, she was So excited she practically cried. They took pics with her, talked with her, really made it feel special. It was amazing.

E- Oh lord, where to begin. In high school, I was so enfatuated with a boy, and wouldn't you know it, I tripped up the stairs right in front of him.

F- Guess I would love something homemade, and something that would invoke great memories of our cruise.

G- So I am like a tween at heart. I love watching Disney channel with my kids, love Phineas and Ferb, love cartoons, and I LOVE CHEESECAKE! especially cheesecake factory!

More ABC's later....

Hi everyone,

We just got back from being in California for 3 weeks. I can't believe how fast vacations go! We went to Calif. Adventure on my DS's 8th b-day and had the best time. We were even chosen as the family to open up the park! Absolutely loved World of Color! I think that is my favorite show at any of the disney parks.

I am looking forward to seeing the excursions for this cruise...anyone have any idea when they will show up on the website?

Hey everyone!

Life just calmed down enough for me to wander back to the boards and find the cruise meet section:)

I booked this cruise when I was on the June 18th Wonder (I had such a fantastic time and even though we did Universal and WDW for 10 days before/after all the kids could talk about was being back on the boat!).

It will be myself, my boyfriend (who did not come with us the last cruise so he is extra excited), my DS Aidan (9) and my DD Piper (5). Both will be close to their next birthday though.

Last cruise we did participate in the FE though I think we are going to opt out this time, but would still love to get to know everyone. It was also nice for kids to have some built in friends. My DS is autistic (high functioning but still has a hard time socially) so it really was great to have friends so quick!

We were even chosen as the family to open up the park!

That is awesome! Can I ask how that happened for you guys?

I think there were a couple of things working for us. 1 - we got to the gates a little before 9:00 am (park opened at 10) so we were one of the first families in line. 2 - I made tye-dye mickey shirts for us all to wear so we were those matching familiy members. We noticed one of the cast members behind the gate pointing at us and then he left to do something. He came back out of the gates with Honorary Disneyland Citizen buttons and asked if we wanted to open the park.

The matching shirts is what did it for us, I'm sure. Whenever we go to DL or WDW I now make different shirts...it is so much easier keeping track of everyone too. The last time we were at WDW in Animal Kingdom we were picked to ride on a float for the parade...again, I think the shirts make all the difference.

We just signed up for the F/E. Now I am busy looking for things to put in everybody's. We are starting to look at airfare as well. We are thinking of flying into Orange County...I like that airport so much more than LAX! I am looking at Jet Blue into Long Beach, but of course they have flights available on the 25th, but they haven't opened up their flights for march 6. I hate when they do that! It doesn't look like Jet Blue will be the way to go anyway with their one way tickets as much as they are. Our plan is to fly out on Friday b/c you just never know what the weather will be like in February. Anybody else have their flights yet?

They had us come in at about 9:20 am and we waited just past the turnstiles for 9:30 when they let everyone in. We then did a 10 second countdown and said "Come on in" (or something like that). We were also told to get out of the way of the mob that would be rushing to get in line for the WOC fastpasses...which we already had b/c we did the dinner at Wine Country Trattoria. We were just in a rush to get on Soarin so that we could do that before official opening and get to Toy Story when they dropped the rope. I never even knew they opened Soarin a half hour before the rest of the park until I went searching on the Disneyland forum. These boards have the best information! It still blows my mind that CA does not have fast passes for Toy Story yet in Orlando they do:confused3 I have a very competitive family and we love going on that ride to try to beat each other!

I thought we could start a get to know you game.... Everyone play along! I'll play along with you Rachel!

The ABC's of me:

A- "awesome adventure" you've done or would like to do on this cruise? Nothing in particular... I'm just happy to be going on this cruise as a family. I've been on ten cruises (will be 11 by the time this cruise rolls around) but only one with my whole family - me, DH, and the kids. We've had a pretty rough year and I'm looking forward to this relaxing trip. :goodvibes

B- Breakfast. Yum! what's your favorite.. on or off ship. We're green smoothie fans in my family... my favorite is spinach, kale, fresh pineapple, and frozen bananas. YUM.

C- Children.. Tell about your young'ins. Dexter is 8yo (will turn 9yo the day we sail!) and he loves USC football, Star Wars, and, most of all, everything LEGO. When he grows up he wants to be either an inventor or a movie director. He's a terrific kid, very positive and kind. Celeste is 5yo and loves animals, especially dogs. When she grows up she wants to be a vet specializing in police dogs. She is sweet and sassy and a real character. My kids are just across-the-board awesome! :lovestruc

D- Disney. (of course) what is your favorite Disney memory. No single isolated memory... I grew up 15 minutes from Disneyland so I've been there so many times there's not a certain thing that stands out. I'd say overall it's the memory of our first Disney cruise - it was truly a MAGICAL family vacation. :wizard:

E- Embarrassing moment. Everyone has one.. come on, do tell. I don't embarrass easily, so this is a tough one. Maybe stuff from back in the teen years when I was much more easily embarrassed. ;)

F- Fish extenders. Ok as a newbie, if you've cruised, tell the best gift you've received or what would you like to see in that pocket outside your door? I liked the practical items (pens, post-its), regional things (postcards or goodies from people's hometowns), and of course treats.

G- Guilty pleasure. Do tell..... Reality TV, both semi-quality stuff (Project Runway, Top Chef) and mind-suckingly bad stuff (Rock of Love springs immediately to mind).

Who's next? :)

DisneyZell
08-02-2010, 01:47 PM
My turn:

A- "awesome adventure" you've done or would like to do on this cruise? - Adventure I did on one of my last Disney cruise was the Royal Dolphin swim with my son. We had the best time. This cruise we are really looking forward to the mule ride/zip line tour in Puerta Vallarta.

B- Breakfast. Yum! what's your favorite.. on or off ship. - Eggs benedict

C- Children.. Tell about your young'ins - DS Connor just turned 8 and like AQW loves USC football (DH went to USC); DS Nick is 11 1/2 and likes UCLA (I went there)...makes for interesting times when they play each other in football! They both play pop warner football in the fall and lacrosse in the spring.

D- Disney. (of course) what is your favorite Disney memory. - A year and a half ago, we were at Animal Kingdom walking around Camp Mickey. A cast member approached us and wanted to know if we would like to be in the parade that afternoon. Of course we said yes and got to ride in a float that day...we had a photopass photographer along the route who took tons of pictures so got lots of cools pictures.

E- Embarrassing moment. Everyone has one.. come on, do tell. - Well this goes back a long time ago...in 2nd grade my mom made me wear a certain pair of pants to school. Well, during recess, they split in the back! So, called my mom to bring me a new pair...what does she do...brings a needle and thread to sew them up in the bathroom!! Obviously I was scarred for life as I still remember that!

F- Fish extenders. Ok as a newbie, if you've cruised, tell the best gift you've received or what would you like to see in that pocket outside your door? - I just love the homemade things we get. They are always so unique and thoughtful.

G- Guilty pleasure. Do tell..... Again, like AQW, reality shows. My favorites are Amazing Race & Survivor.

Hoepfully we'll hear from others soon.

I'm sure Dexter and Connor will be fast friends! My DH also went to USC, as did his parents... his parents actually met on the steps of the SC library. The whole family is rabid over the Trojans - I totally married into an SC cult. :rotfl:

The ABC's of me:

A- "awesome adventure" you've done or would like to do on this cruise?
This is our first cruise and I still have no idea what adventures we'll do. We think we need to do ones with our girls (who are six) and one of them can be very reticent to try new things. At first I thought we'd do the dolphin one, but then realized it'll be a ton of money and she very well may chicken out at the last minute .

B- Breakfast. Yum! what's your favorite.. on or off ship.
I love peanut butter and toast.

C- Children.. Tell about your young'ins.
Identical twin girls. Who are anything but identical . Seriously, if we hadn't done the DNA test, I would think they were fraternal. They are six and totally into Barbie at this point in their lives.

D- Disney. (of course) what is your favorite Disney memory.
I went to Disney twice as a kid. I don't remember much. I loved the Matterhorn (sp?), but don't remember much else.

E- Embarrassing moment. Everyone has one.. come on, do tell.
Kissing my now DH on our first date and he didn't kiss me back :scared1:

F- Fish extenders. Ok as a newbie, if you've cruised, tell the best gift you've received or what would you like to see in that pocket outside your door?
Our first cruise and I think we'll sit the FEs out this time.

G- Guilty pleasure. Do tell.....
Ice cream on Sundays and Thursdays after the kids are in bed :rolleyes1

Ok, am officially excited now as flights are booked, so means we are definitely coming!!

Flying out to LA on 22nd Feb, so got a few days to see some sights first before we go cruising. Got some logistics to sort out of where we're staying etc, but first night is a hotel fairly near airport, and night before cruise is likely to be at the Crowne Plaza paid for with my priority points (so free!!).

If anyone else is staying there perhaps we could look at transport options, bound to be cheaper when split between a couple of families?

We booked about a month ago! It will be: Me- Autumn 34
DH- Jonathan 34
DD- Natalie 5
My daughter was just diagnosed with lupus and is extremely sun sensitive, so that should be a bit of a challenge. We were on the Wonder last year for a four day so we kind of know the drill, we'll just have to do kids club during sunny hours and Mickey pool at night. The only thing I'm concerned about are shore excursions, if anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated! It looks like there will be several kids around her age, with her being an only, I'm really excited about that!

If sun is an issue perhaps you could look into buying her a parasol. I've seen more and more folks using them nowadays (such as Marcia Cross). I bet you could find a great one with princesses or Tinkerbell on it for her. Our girls are six, so a perfect age to meet up with your daughter.

I just booked us into the Sunrise Hotel San Pedro. It'll be $99 plus taxes and it includes a continental breakfast and free shuttle to the port.

I still haven't gotten our plane tickets yet. I'm not sure if I should book us on JetBlue, which is showing slightly cheaper flights, or on Southwest, which has such a fabulous cancellation policy and gives you two free checked bags.

What are you all doing for flights?

Well, we just booked our plane tickets:yay: We are flying in on Friday evening and will return the Monday after the cruise. It now seems like it is not too far away. I have been looking at the excursions as well, so hopefully will make up my mind as to what we want to do! The boys start school next Wed. so we just got our school supplies today...it seems like they need more and more each year! We have been busy with football practice this month, so it will be nice once school starts and our practice is down to 3 days per week instead of 5! Hope everyone is still enjoying their summer!

SIX MONTHS TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the last month we have booked our airfare! We are flying Southwest... coming in on Saturday and flying out the Sunday we get off the ship! I also researched shuttle options. We are going with a private van since there will be 6 of us total. I hope my parents can get flight times close to ours (they live outside Chicago and we are in Indy).

I looked at the excursions but dang Disney marks them up a lot! I think we'll end up planning some beach days on our own. When the kids get older, we'll do more adventurous activities.

On the must do list is a Palo brunch, the margarita lesson and Tea with Alice. I keep picking up FE stuff too!

Hi all

I've been away for the last 6 weeks so have just read back to catch up. Everyone seems to be getting excited :woohoo: me included. Less than 6 months to go now :)

I gave both my kids their surprise birthday presents while we were away. I did a treasure hunt for them, they loved it and are now sooooooooooo excited!! My DS is 13 and was asking if any other kids would be interested in having a group on here before we go so they can chat. If a few are interested I will start a thread for them. It would be for them to get to know each other before they go, like we do.

I have just updated the FE thread, we have got over 20 staterooms taking part now so it will be a nice size. Any newbies please feel free to join us, the more the merrier.

Hi disney-lover, nice to see you back! Can you link me to the fish extender thread, I can't find it! Been planning already what I'm going to do for it!

We have been in Lanzarote this week, and some of what I've been doing on here must be rubbing off on the kids, as my son found a Lanzarote fish extender and said I should buy it for the cruise! I didn't, but need to look into making/buying one.

Am so excited, now that we've had our summer holiday this is our next holiday to look forward to. I think it will be lovely to have something exciting like this after Christmas. Can't wait!

Hi hun,

It is good to be back, except for the bad weather that is!!!!

I told the kids about this while we were away, so they are both really excited now :banana:

We got our FE in Florida, it was a wall organizer thing with pockets. We brought it home, got some red, black and white felt to cover it and put a couple of big felt mickey mouse buttons on it. It was really easy and looks good :)

Sorry I haven't been around much. Last night I had Mickey call our house via the DCL character call to talk to my daughters about the cruise! It was nice to hear Mickey's excited voice. :goodvibes My 3yo thought it was great and my 6yo acted like it was no big deal, but I think they both thought it was kind of cool.

Sorry to say we're canceling this sailing - Carnival is repositioning two ships through the Panama Canal next year so we're going to cancel DCL and do that instead. On the downside, I'll miss meeting all you great folks and I now have an additional 9+ months to wait before we cruise (Dec 2011). On the upside... crossing something major off my bucket list! I everyone! I was the second responder to this thread when it started & I had forgot to check back until now. WHAT was I thinking??

This will be our 3rd Disney cruise, but a total surprise for my son this time. He has begged us to take him back on DCL for the past 3 years, but we have sailed Carnival lately because we can drive to the port (Galveston).

So when they had the kids sail free thing going, we jumped on it & he has NO idea. He is going to flip his little lid :)

I see talk of fish extenders...is there someone organizing this? We had them on our 2nd Disney cruise and it was such a highlight of my son's day to see if there were any surprises left :) And I had just as much fun planning what to bring and share with others! I don't want to miss out if there is something in the works!

I'm Heather, my Hubby is Jeff, & Reese is our 7 year old. We homeschool, so I don't have to worry about teachers sending homework...THIS teacher is taking a break too! :)

Hope you're all having a great 10/10/10 and can't wait to meet you!

First time crusiers for us(so excited and a little nervous).

We are flying in on Friday morning from the East coast just to adjust to the time difference and to make sure we make it, if it snowy in NY.

Any suggestions for a good, reasonable hotel near LAX with a shuttle to the airport??

My Hubby had a question for those of you who know...

Is there a Budget rental car place near the port? In Galveston & Port Canaveral, we rent a car, drive to port, drop off the car, & take the rental car shuttle to the port.

Is there anything like this in LA Port?

Our flight back is at about 6.30ish I think, so will be hanging around a bit as well. If I remember correctly when we went on the last cruise we didn't have to get off the boat till about 10.30.

If I remember correctly you live near my MIL so will definately have to meet up :)

Hi everyone!

My daughter and I are booked on the Feb 27 - March 6 2001 Mexican Riviera cruise, and I am SOOOO excited!! It took me years and years and YEARS of convincing her to get on a cruise ship :confused3 because she saw Titanic and was afraid we would sink! :rotfl2: But now we are fully booked and paid for, and I am just counting down the days!

She is 18, and I will be celebrating my 41st birthday :headache: on March 3rd, our Mazatlan day! :thumbsup2

We are driving in from Phoenix, so no worries about flights. Has everyone decided which shore excursions to go on?

Peeking back in to say we might not be canceling after all. I told my husband we could cancel this sailing and apply the funds to the Panama Canal trip... but... the more I think about it, the more I convince myself that it's a REALLY good deal (we're in a super-cheapo cabin) and I'll regret it if I cancel. We've only sailed DCL once and had no intention of paying the premium to do it again, but at the Kids Sail Free prices it's actually cheaper than the similar Carnival sailing that departs the same day.

If USC upsets Oregon at homecoming today, I will take advantage of my hubby's euphoria and get him to agree to this plan. :rotfl: Otherwise, maybe I'll tell him that all I want for Christmas is for us all to take this cruise together... :lovestruc

ETA: Ooooo, and I just realized that DH is dressing up as a pirate for Halloween this year... I'll point out that he can wear his rockin' awesome costume for Pirate night on the cruise, too! That might just seal it, he loves his frilly pirate shirt! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Whoop whoop we've booked our flights :woohoo::woohoo:

We are flying to LAX on the Thursday before and then home on the day we get off the boat. We haven't told the kids yet but we are staying next to Disney and will be going to disney for a couple of days before we go on the cruise. We've been to Florida loads of times and the kids love it so this will be a real treat for them!

Does anyone know what the weather will be like in February?

Its usually cool in February at Disneyland (mid 60's high) and rain is a possibility that time of year but the really good news is Disneyland is not crowded then!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to DISboards. I am cruising on the Wonder 2/27 with my DH, DS (10) and DD (6). We have cruised many times and many times to the Mexican Riviera. This will be our 3rd time on the Wonder.

I started to read through the thread, but I still have a way to go. Is there a meet and greet set-up? If so, I would like to sign-up. I did read that there is a FE sign-up, I have to read a little more about what that is before I sign-up.

Looking forward to a great cruise!!!

Almost under 100 days!

Has the recent Carnival Splendor incident made you think of different things you can bring that you might not usually take on a cruise?

For one thing...I think bringing a small flashlight is one item we will be bringing.

We've been cruising for years and haven't heard of too many situations like the Splendor situation but it never hurts to be safe right?

My brother's co-worker was on that Carnival cruise. :scared1: I figure, what are the odds that that would happen again so soon? Nah, I am not worried, or planning to bring anything extra. It feels like the time is going quickly, and it will soon be time for our cruise! :cool1:

We are paid off and booked for Palo brunch & dinner:banana: I was going to wait until I woke up to book Palo, but happened to wake up at 1:00 am last night, so I got up to book it...this is when I wish I was on the west coast so I wouldn't have to wait until midnight to book things! We got brunch for Monday at 10:30 and dinner Friday at 7:00.

Our kids still have no idea we are going on this cruise and that our friends are joining us! We still have not decided when to tell them. We may just say we are going out to California for our Feb. break to see our friends and family (which we do often, so it wouldn't seem out of the norm).

Has anyone booked any excursions yet? We don't know what we want to do, but will probably just do it on our own. Anybody else have their things booked?

Has anyone done some of the shore trips, is there anywhere with ratings for trips?
Are there on ship tours, behind the scenes?

I'm going to throw my computer ...

I'm tech savvy, my DH is a systems admin ... WE UNDERSTAND COMPUTERS.

Every time I try to book Palo (or excursions) we get Error Code 500. This is within Mozilla Firefox. IE gives a different error.

I've spoken to tech support, sadly, they can not help. I will call again and ask for a sup next time as I feel this is some sort of bug and need to file a ticket.

Can ANYONE tell me if they are experiencing this same problem?

I've tried from three separate computers.

Thanks in advance,

We made our Palo reservations! We tried the dinner on our 4-day Wonder cruise last year and loved it, so we are doing dinner and brunch this time.

We have not booked any excursions yet. I think we are just going to do our usual, Medano Beach in Cabo, Krystal in Puerto Vallarta, enjoy the ship in Mazatlan.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

My advice to anyone not able to book Palo in advance is to get to the Cruise Terminal early. We managed to book it last year and were in group number 2 at the terminal. So get there early is my advice. Also if you want to do tea with Alice, that is booked onboard and it is first come first served, so make sure you arrive early :thumbsup2

I believe it is at guest services as that is where we got our gingerbread house tickets when we were on the Christmas cruise. However, as I have two boys who would do anything not to be seen having tea with Alice, I am not 100% sure it is guest services! I'm sure someone who has girls can verify this for you.:goodvibes

On our last cruise we booked Tea with Alice in the bar near Guest Services, sorry can't remember what it was called. We also booked Palo there as well. If you ask a member of staff when you first get on the boat they will point you in the right direction.

I would definitely recommend Tea with Alice if you've got a little girl. My daughter loved it and has asked to do it again, so we will be heading straight to book it when we board.

Anyone else going crazy not being able to book anything till the 75 day mark? We are paid in full, but my BF isn't a castaway club member so his booking window isn't open yet for anything but Palo (which we aren't sure about still).

It's so frustrating to pull up excursions and not be able to book one in our party! I guess I could book the kids and I for things, but what a pain if those sell out, and then I have to cancel and rebook a dif time. Easier to do it all at once:)

We are going to figure everything out this weekend though so come Monday at 9 (west coasters) we can just hopefully go in and book excursions and spa.

It's getting so close! We leave a few days before the cruise to do American Girl place in LA for my daughter and DL as well.

Excited!

So I posted this on the main DCL forum but I will post it here too...

ok...so weird thing- I was online earlier making sure I had everything in order for booking tonight
*one of our party of four isn't a CC member so I had to wait until the 75 day mark to book everything, but I could log in and see times of everything available because I am a CC member- if that makes sense. lol

anyway, at around 5:30 Pacific Time all of the sudden I could book everything- my BF's booking window suddenly opened up. It was very odd. The boxes that were once greyed out by his name were opened and I got everything done.

I took a nap (I have a horrible flu) and now am reading that the site is down I wonder if my changes were saved? I feel bad for everyone else
