Background info:
Last year we took our girls, then 9&2, on a "4/3 never this cheap again, once in a lifetime trip let's do DxDP trip " to WDW.. Best week of our lives, came home, and scrunched everything we could to buy DVC. We'll be making our first trip home to BLT in 11 days!

We originally decided on DDP, b/c DH kept saying that having to be somewhere all the time got really old. Made our ADRs in January, and I must say I was... deflated. Especially since part of the deal for DVC that DH would get Ohana dinner 2x each trip. Left us with a total of 4 choices - we picked Akershus, 1900 Park Fare, Tusker House Breakfast, and WCC. Changed Akershus dinner to Mama Melrose. Still weren't happy.

I began to pour over dining reviews, hoping to get excited over 1900, since it was the ONLY place we hadn't done before. Of course, the DxDp reviews pulled me in. DD1 said "The best meal at WDW was Chef Mickey's." A few days later DD2 said "I can't wait to eat in the castle again" DH looked at me the following Saturday and said - "I've been dreading fighting crowds for CS, can we swing DxDP again?" I agreed ONLY IF we could get a CRT and CM. Which we did, for a 7am breakfast at CM and 2pm lunch at CRT on our checkout day. Not very optimal, but they were there, so here we are!:thumbsup2

Cast: DH - eats A LOT!!!!! Nuff said!
Me- I've lost 56 pounds since January. This trip changed that a bit, and I am really feeling yucky! I tried to be good, but it just didn't happen!
DD (age 10). VERY PICKY!!! I mean picky!!! Stilll has a childlike appetite!
DD (age 3) Eats a lot! Loves steak, "big people food"

*We went ahead and cancelled Tony's and changed our Boma time to 4:50. We really felt like this day had too much food, and the easiest way to get that credit we need was to just go ahead and cancel. Honestly, this was one meal that no one was super excited to have 1 thing from the menu. Everywhere else, we have an app, entree, or dessert that we can't wait for! We may end up cancelling Y&Y, too, but I want to go if for no other reason than to get lettuce cups and fried wontons again. I don't need the entree!

Looks yummy! Congratulations on buying DVC and on losing 55 pounds! I have been trying to lose weight since January and am stuck on a 10-lb plateau! I'm getting soooo frustrated! What method did you use? Of course, my birthday cake the other day didn't help me!

Congratulations on both your ownership and your weight loss. I started "trying" to lose weight in April and have only lost 18 pounds so far. (It's not that great considering I'm Pooh sized!) Congratulations on 55-that is awesome!

I can't wait to read your reviews. We are there about a month after you.

It's been a combination of things. I started with cutting out soda. Then I started the couch to 5K running program (coolrunning.com). Began a dedicated 1200-1300 calorie diet, broken into small meals. Joined the BL challenge on the W.I.S.H boards - which was probably the single best thing I did. Joined sparkpeople and tracked calories in vs. calories out. Continued running, avg 10-12 miles a week. I have about 15 more to go, and that list of ADRs is NOT going to help!!!!!!!

I can't wait to read your reviews. We are there about a month after you.

I am going to try my best to get them done quickly! If I don't, I'll forget everything! Keep up the new lifestyle. I can't think of it as a diet, b/c the exercise is a HUGE portion, and this is my new way of life.

I just gained 10 lbs reading your adrs!!;)

Now I AM :scared1:! :rotfl2:

Thanks! I plan on it!

Your ADR's look GREAT!!! I lost 45 lbs before my last trip, and even though I ate VERY well at WDW- I managed to gain back.....1 pound! I think between walking a billion miles a day, and sweating it all worked out!

Can't wait to hear how it went!

You have NO idea how good that makes me feel! I am really worried that since I run about 12 miles a week, my body is conditioned for more cardio and the walking wouldn't help. I am sure the sweating will help, too!!!!! I plan on weighing a couple of times, just to keep it in check. Hoping to get a couple of short runs in, if I have time before all those early ADRS! ;) Thanks for the report!:)

Ugh. I don't think I'll ever want to eat again!! My stomach is sooo full!!!

We had a great trip! The food at times was definitely great, others okay, sometimes too much, and an occasional let down. I think sometimes I build it up in my mind, picking just the right places, then it all starts to run together after a while!

Okay, let's get this party started!

Sunday, June 20, Main St. Bakery breakfast

We arrived at 6am! Did the paperwork, headed to MK for rope drop. Went straight to the Bakery to start using some of those snacks!

DH and I both got cinnamon rolls, I shared one with DD2.
DD1 got donuts. Really exciting! You get two in a pack for one credit.
We got 2 bottles of water to share.

5 credits down, 43 to go.

The cinnamon rolls were huge, and yummy. Definitely big enough to share. DD loved her glazed donuts, she loves them and I never buy them! She was feeling rather "Goofy" this morning, forgive the picture!

Well, after riding ALMOST everything in Tomorrowland, we were ready for a cool place to sit. Not super hungry, but wanted a little something.

DH ordered unsweet tea, and a salad for his app.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040249.jpg

He said the salad was okay, he's not big on salad.

For his entree, he ordered the cheese steak. Again, he said it was just okay.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040250.jpg

And for his dessert, he got cheese cake. He liked this, it's his favorite dessert of all time.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040256.jpg

I did not get an app, but I did get the long awaited chicken strawberry salad. IT was huge, I could only eat about half of it. It was very tasty, but it had a bit too much dressing on it for my liking, especially near the bottom. I would definitely order it again, though!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040253.jpg

And for my dessert? Brownie sundae. Seriously. When this thing came out, people all around us pointed and their eyes popped out. Pooh AND his friends could not finish this monster. I'm not sure who could. The picture DOES NOT do it justice!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040257.jpg

DD1 got a tossed salad also, for an app. She loved it, b/c she loves salad. For her entree, she got the grilled chicken sandwich. It had ham and swiss on it, and she took that off. The fries were really good, I had one!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040252.jpg

For her dessert, she ordered a vanilla Mickeylodeon. She didn't want it, didn't eat it.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040254.jpg

DD2 got the kids meal grilled cheese, with grapes. She ate most of the sandwich, and some of the grapes. They were really good grapes!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040251.jpg

And for her dessert, she got a chocolate Mickeylodeon. She ate a bit of it, but it was a huge "vase" of ice cream and she couldn't keep up!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040255.jpg

As you can see from the pictures, it was really dark in here. They were doing some work, and had tarps over the windows.

All in all, it was an okay meal. DH and DD said they didn't care if we ever went back or not, it would be up to me. I would like the salad again, and the brownie sundae is worth a trip, to be split between the four of us.

We had a theme for the week: the disappearing waitress. Her name was Eve, and she rarely checked on us, refilled drinks, etc. We were really thirsty, so this was not a good thing.

The cost OOP w/ tax would have been $78.59. We would NEVER pay that for what we ate IRL, but at Disney, it is a relatively inexpensive meal.

DH loves Ohana, and requested this meal for his Father's Day dinner, and at least one more time afterwards. It was a bit sad for me, as I lost my Daddy in September, so my view of the meal was a bit skewed.

Our ADR was for 5:00, and we weren't seated until 5:30. We did get a WONDERFUL table by the windows with a great castle view. Pic is zoomed in a bit, but it was beautiful! Simo was our waiter, and he was FANTASTIC!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/th_P1040270.jpg (http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/?action=view&current=P1040270.jpg)

We had the welcome bread, which is really, really good. I started with a lapu lapu, my favorite!!!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/th_P1040276.jpg (http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/?action=view&current=P1040276.jpg)

First they brought the dipping sauces: the peanut one is our favorite, and we actually got the recipe!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/th_P1040277.jpg (http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/?action=view&current=P1040277.jpg)

Then the salad. I forgot to get a picture of the bowl, but here is some on the plate.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/th_P1040275.jpg (http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/?action=view&current=P1040275.jpg)

Then the pork pot stickers, or I think they called them dumplings, which I absolutely LOVE!!! They are drizzeled with pineapple sweet and sour cauce, which is one of the dipping sauces on the table. They also brought the honey coriander chicken wings. I think they are okay, but DH loves them. DD2 ate one or two of them, also.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040278.jpg

Then came the noodles and broccoli. DD2 was the only one that ate the noodles, DD1 won't touch them, and DH and I knew more was to come! But I did eat some broccoli.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040279.jpg

Here is a picture of skewers waiting to be served:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040272.jpg

Pork: not the best. I thought it was tough. DH had a few "chunks", I had one bite of one, but this was my least favorite.
Chicken: definitely yummy and tender!
Shrimp: peel and eat and HUGE! This is DD1's favorite WDW food! For a girl that eats next to nothing, I think she ate about 15 or 20 shrimp. Here is a picture of the welcome bread plate with her peelings to prove it!
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/th_P1040284.jpg (http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/?action=view&current=P1040284.jpg)
Steak: The best! DD2, DH, and I all ate our money's worth of this!

The dessert bread pudding is simply yummy! I love, love, love it!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040287.jpg

This was one of the best meals we had at WDW. It is a true family favorite, and we will go back, probably twice, each year. Simu was a GREAT waiter, the "lei lady" was a lot of fun, and the kids had a blast. We were there for 2 hours!!!! But it was a relaxing way to end our first day at WDW!!!

I didn't save the receipt that told the total of the meal, but the lapu lapu was $12.75!!!!

The cinnimon rolls look good!

We left home around 7pm, and arrived at WDW at 6am! DH slept all day Saturday, so he was good to go! We actually couldn't "check in" until 7, b/c the computers don't roll over to add the dining plan until then. But we made it for rope drop, which was my plan!

That's a giant "Cinnamon roll". I really want to have one (ok!, maybe just 1/2) right now!!

It is huge!! We actually got another one to bring home yesterday, and it's in a box. It feels like a rock is in my stomach, so I don't even want it! It's 4 inches square and 2.5 inches tall!!!!

Okay you've sold me on Ohana's. I've been on the fence about it but DH really wanted to go there. Now I'm excited too.

You won't regret it. Last year, DH called it the "place with the skewers". Part of the deal with buying DVC was the DH gets 2 trips to Ohana every year. It is sooo good, but it truly is not a place for vegetarians. The ambiance, "entertainment"... everything. And if you like alcohol, you gotta try a lapu lapu. I only drink a few times a year, and lapu lapus are on the list! I wish I'd asked for the recipe for that, too! ;)

Our 3 year old definitely loved it, and they have coconut broom races, limbo, etc. to keep them entertained. It is a bit of a long meal, I think we were in there for almost 2 hours from our check in time. But it is worth it!

We crashed right after watching fireworks from the balcony, and were up bright and early to be at Kona at 7:30 the next morning. We were hoping to be finished in time for rope drop at MK at 9, which we were.

We arrived a few minutes early via monorail, and there were only 2 other parties there. It really is a great place for a quiet, non-character breakfast.

We all got the likiloi, whatever you want to call it, juice. It is served here, Ohana breakfast, and Tusker House breakfast, and we all love it. I think it is Pineapple, orange, and guava or grapefruit. Whatever it is, it is delicious! The girls got hot chocolate as their second beverage, they were always cold first thing in the morning, and I had a simply perfect pressed pot of Kona coffee. This counts as 2 beverages, so it DH and I shared as our second beverage. He's not a huge coffee drinker, but even he admitted it was good!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040294.jpg

I got the Big Kahuna. I really just wanted the pineapple macademia pancakes, which come on it, but I knew the girls would want more bacon than what was on their plates, and DH wanted to try the French toast. The pancakes were everything I was hoping they would be!!!! :lovestruc

I did give the girls my bacon. All the WDW bacon is very thin. My girls LOVE bacon, it is one of the few things DD1 will consistently eat. Even though it is horrible for you! I tasted the eggs and potatoes, and they were pretty good. DH said the french toast was good, but nothing spectacular.

DD1 got blueberry pancakes. I think she ate 3 bites, her bacon, and mine. I tasted them, and they were good. She doesn't like blueberries in her pancakes, but she wanted to give it a try since she didn't see plain pancakes on the adult menu. That was a pain all week, she is 10, so she wanted to get the adult stuff most of the time, but then she wouldn't eat it. But I am proud of her for trying it!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040295.jpg

DD1 got the Mickey pancakes, which were just 3 pancakes arranged as a Mickey head. She ate about all of one of them, her bacon, and some of my eggs.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040296.jpg

We all agreed that this was a great breakfast. DD1 was pleased, even if it was just with the juice, hot chocolate, and bacon. The meal would have been $69.25, and we will be coming back. It was a great way to start the day. I will add that Nikola, our waitress, followed in the disappearing act of her predecessors. DH wants his glasses kept full, and she didn't really do that well. Also, we saw someone order fruit as their entree, and it came in a half of a pineapple, stuffed completely full!!!! I thought it looked absolutely scrumptious!!

Can't wait to see the rest of your reviews. Congrats on not drinking soda anymore... I have done the same (16months of "NO" soda for me).

Thanks! I wasn't even tempted at WDW by them, other than a few sips of ginger ale to ease my tummy one night. I did have unsweetened tea several times just for a caffeine boost, though! ;) Thanks for joining in, and congrats on 16 months of no soda!

Just to keep things flowing....

DH and I didn't get hungry during the day, but we did all get hot. No lunch was planned for today, so we used some more snack credits.

Girls each had a frozen lemonade in toontown, and we all shared 2 bottles of smart water.

After touring Adventureland, DD1 was hungry after relatively no breakfast, and had her first of several popcorn boxes for the week.

DD2 wanted to try a Itzakadoozie after seeing someone with it, so she got that.

DH and I shared a Dole Whip pineapple pineapple float for the first time, and OH MY. They are all that!! I could go for one now, that's about the only thing that sounds good!

So we now have 36 snack credits remaining. Up next: dinner at Boma!

Okay, so there are some kind of African spirits roaming AKL. We've been to Boma twice, and both times one of my girls hindered my enjoyment of the African cuisine. Last year, DD1 was a bit sick, I think from the heat and riding EE 3 times as her first roller coaster, so she laid in my lap and sipped ginger ale. This time, DD2 had not napped, and was a little ankle biter.

I didn't get many pictures, but I can give some reviews. our ADR was for 4:50, and we were seated very promptly.

I had looked forward to the soup, creamy carrot and ginger. Well, it was NOT on the menu that night. I was sooo bummed.

If you have been scared to try Boma, don't be. There are some extra spices, but not overpowering, and there is lots to try.

The bread that is similar to cornbread is really moist, and just delicious. DH and I both enjoyed the prime rib, and the dipping sauce is just yummy. They also had a pork carving station. The fu-fu, sweet and white potatoes mixed, was really, really good. The different varieties of hummus are delish, with pita and some other flat breads to dip. DH loved the salads, Kool Slai which he described as similar to cole slaw, and the pasta salad were big hits for him.

I made my meal off of the hummus, prime rib, great fruits, and dessert. The girls had chicken tenders and mac and cheese, lots of fruit, and some desserts.

The desserts are great, as the portions are bite sized. The zebra domes, and some kind of espresso/cappucino tart are the best. DH liked the peanut butter flavored bite, and the girls liked the cookies.

Here is DD1's plate - the cornbread ish muffins, plain penne pasta, some roasted chicken, a few chicken nuggets and the ever present watermelon.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040362.jpg

Here is what was left of my plate by the time I got around to getting the camera out again. I forgot about the falafel and yogurt sauce - worth the trip over for! Also pictured is salmon with pine nuts on the top. This was probably my favorite dish of the meal.

Fruit plate:

And desserts:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040364.jpg

The zebra domes have a kind of chocolate mousse in them, very yummy. The ones that have a dark circle on top are the coffee ones, which I actually like better than the zebra domes.

It was a great meal, but I hope the spirits are flowing in my favor. This is on a definite must return to list, really worth the trip over. I didn't end up with the receipt that broke down the actual cost, but Allison was our server, and she was okay. Not spectacular, but we didn't go too thirsty. It looks like we finished around 6pm, so a few minutes more than an hour here.

After the meal, we walked out to the animal viewing area, had a great talk with a CM from Swahili, and an incredible view of some animals! A very nice evening!

We had at 10:30 breakfast here last year, and just loved it. The characters were really engaged and engaging, however, the experience this time was not the same.

Our ADR was for 10:20. We checked in at 10:10. It was already HOT. I mean beat down on you, sweltering, hot! It took them 25 minutes to seat us.

Once we got inside, we had another disappearing waiter, Vinnie. To his credit, they seemed to really be pushing the staff, and he had a lot of tables. It took another 5 minutes to get drinks. Not a huge deal, except for the fact that the girls were on edge due to the heat.

DD1 had apple juice and water, DD2 got a fruit juice mix. It was cranberry and a couple of other things, and very, very good. DD1 tasted it, and wished she had gotten it.

I didn't get a lot of food pictures, b/c they were putting out lunch, and trying to get the breakfast people out in a hurry. Also, the characters only came by quickly, and we actually had to track Pooh down as he was going to skip us. Vinnie did a good job of making sure he did come by. Tigger snuck up behind DD2, and tried to take her drink. After that, she was not into this character meal AT ALL!

Food wise- the stuffed French toast was NOT as good as last year. It was rather greasy. At the made to order station, which was DH's favorite, there was a HUGE line, probably due to the fact that they were putting up breakfast foods, not replacing what was there. So no egg white omelets for us.

I did have a chocolate crossant, and some peach bread pudding. It was very, very dry, and not worth the calories.

The fruit was really, really refreshing, and we mostly made our meal off of that, and the girls had their bacon, of course.

These are my favorite pics from this meal.

All in all, NOT a good experience. It was very disappointing, as it was high on our to-do list. We won't be back for a while. The girls weren't as into the characters, the food wasn't good,... just not a good time. It was probably just the day/time, b/c last year we had a wonderful time here, in fact we cancelled a Boma breakfast to make it here for 2 breakfasts.

This meal was one to surprise DD1. She has been very into France lately, wanting to learn French words, and buy things with the Eiffel Tower on them.

I was apprehensive about this meal, even though it gets good reviews. I knew that even though DD was obsessed with France, the food was not something she would eat.

We were seated very promptly after checking in. We had a great conversation in the waiting area with the check in CM, he was very nice and friendly. I had read that the wait staff could be....less than warm. I was very pleased with our waitress, Aurore. She introduced herself to the girls as having the same name as Sleeping Beauty, and was great to them.

On to the food!

For appetizers:
DD2 got a cheese puff pastry. I thought she would :lovestruc this, as she is a grilled cheese kinda girl. Actually, she wanted no part of it!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040418.jpg

DD1 got the cheese plate. Again, not what she expected, and didn't eat it. But DH and I tried some, and they were very tasty! She is a bread freak, and had at least one of the loaves of French bread w/butter by herself. It was yummy, too.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040419.jpg

I had been waiting for the French onion soup. I loved the gruyere cheese on top, but only had a few sips of the soup. DD2 saw me eating soup, and took it over. That was fine, since I had been munching on bread and cheese.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040420.jpg

DH got the lobster bisque, which he proclaimed very good!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040421.jpg

Entrees:

DD1 got the chicken - half of a natural roasted chicken. She was a trooper and tried it, but did not like it at all. She went back to her bread.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040425.jpg

DD2 got chicken and pasta. She ate about half of it, and then let DD1 have the rest, and went back to my soup.
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040423.jpg

I got the beef tenderloin. It was very good. Be forewarned, I like my meat medium rare, and it definitely was. So much so, in fact, that I wouldn't let DD2 have any, and Dh wouldn't taste it. It was very tender and flavorful! I didn't eat the potatoes, I tasted them and they were okay, but I tried to go with the green beans instead.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040422.jpg

DH had seafood skewers, shrimp, scallops, and mahi mahi. He said it was okay. He didn't care for the coulis that came with it. He ended up eating some of DD's chicken.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040424.jpg

So after all the meal swapping, which we :lmao: during the meal, it was time for desserts.

DD1 got the chocolate cake, which was her second favorite part of the meal after the bread. DD2 ate some of it, too. They both proclaimed it yummy!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040426.jpg

I asked the waitress what she recommended, and went with that. It was an apple filled crepe, with caramel sauce. It was very good! Kind of like my southern apple pie with ice cream, but a smaller version. The crepe was not as soft as I would have liked, kind of chewy.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040429.jpg

I made DH get the profiteroles. They looked soooo good, and I was a little disappointed that I hadn't ordered them myself. However, once I tasted them, I realized that they looked better than they tasted. The pastry was very chewy, and tough. It wasn't at all soft, which was what I was wanted.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040428.jpg

DD2 had the strawberry sorbet, and it was soooo verry good. I honestly think it was the best thing at the meal!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040427.jpg

I can't say that I feel an urge to come back here anytime soon. It was a nice experience, but DD decided that French food is NOT part of the fun of France! The food was good, just not great. There are too many places in Epcot we want to experience to come back again for a long while.

Glad you are sticking around. Kona is definitely an unsung hero for breakfast! We haven't tried it for dinner yet! You hear on here all the time about the Tonga Toast. We had another late "brunch" breakfast this morning, and after the previous morning's I was worried, but not too much. I had promised DH a morning to sleep in, and the girls really needed it,too, so we arrived at Ohana just in time for our 10:20 ADR.

Wait time was... Ohana style. Now, we obviously love Ohana. But getting seated quickly is just not in their vocabulary! It looks like we got our check at 11:45, so all in all not too bad. But this is definitely not a place to eat if you are in a hurry afterwards! I always allow 2 hours here from ADR time. We were only 1.5 this time! ;) Our waitress was Thalia, and she was very nice. The girls love the juice, same is as served at Tusker House and Kona breakfast, so she had her work cut out for her keeping that on the table. They do bring a carafe of it.

Breakfast at Ohana is family style, basic breakfast foods. In the big "wok" bowl, you get eggs, bacon, sausage links, and biscuits, and can get more of any one time or an entire second bowl if you choose. They have Mickey waffles, which they bring around and give out as desired. Additionally, there is a good fruit plate, which we did get seconds of because I ate all the first one by myself!

The draw here is that you get good character interaction without worrying about being at a buffet, or timing your trips to the buffet around character visits. The food is basic, decent, but nothing exotic or particularly amazing!

The girls grabbed the bacon and biscuits out of the bowl before I got a picture, so that is what should be in the empty spot:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040443.jpg

Fruit plate:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040444.jpg

Another great table with a castle view:
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040442.jpg

Picture of DD2's plate. We learned to put some of everything she liked on the plate at character meals, b/c she would only grab a small bite while watching the characters. I think she ended up eating one sausage link and a bite of biscuit, so the plate looks like maybe she was almost finished.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040445.jpg

The interaction, particularly with Stitch, is what has us coming back. Now, last year, we had a photopass picture done in which stitch is on the sidewalk eating an ice cream cone between my girls. Of course, DD2 only remembers sitting there and NOT having ice cream. She had started saying she wanted to yell at Stitch for eating her ice cream, so we knew this was going to be a fun morning! DH said I'd better take the picture so Stitch had an idea of what she was talking about, so I did.

First Lilo came. She was okay, didn't spend a lot of time, but I think she looks kinda creepy, so that's okay. :lmao:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040448.jpg

Then Pluto came by, and DD2 decided to scratch his ears:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040450.jpg

Stitch finally made his way to the table. DH had a Virginia Tech visor on, and Stitch went nuts. Guess what? Stitch is a Hokie!!! He made the VT sign, which is indescribable unless you are a Hokie, which made us all laugh and do it with him! Then DD got up and SAID "STITCH, YOU ATE MY ICE CREAM". He rubbed his belly, looked at the picture, and hugged her. It was really cute. He was soooo much fun!

Here he is displaying the photo:
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040454.jpg

And making up to DD:
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040456.jpg

They had a little parade around the restaurant, and the girls got maracas and joined in:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040458.jpg

Then came MICKEY! He was nice, took time for pictures and hugs. Thanks to the family at the next table for taking this one of us:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040459.jpg

I know there are lots of character pictures here, but that's what this meal is about, not the food. Really. You won't leave hungry, but you won't leave thinking it's the best you've ever eaten or something you can't wait to get back to eat. But the "Ohana juice" as my girls call it, and the characters, make this a meal we will be back for!

So this was our signature meal of the week. We rarely get to "nice" restaurants, as the closest is about 2 hours away, and when we do, the girls are with grandparents. However, we feel it is important for them to experience a nicer meal, so we do make sure we get one in at Disney. We had prepped them on appropriate table manners, and the meal was not only for enjoyment, but an exercise in etiquette.

For that reason, we treated it as an enjoyable, nice meal out instead of a touristy meal, and I did not take any pictures other than of the girls with their desserts. PLEASE READ about the experience, though, because it was out of this world!

To get there, we walked to MK and took a bus to the Yacht club. The restaurant is around back by the pool, so there are a few corridors to get there. We were in the first seating, and taken to a table by the pool, with Thomas as our waiter.

First impressions: I know a lot of people are trying to decide which 2TS dinner to go to, so I will do some comparision of this one and Narcoosee's, which we visited last year along the way.

Hands down, I prefer the decor and scenery at Narcoosee's, and overlooks the lagoon and MK. It's light and airy. The Yacht club has lots of light oak, and where we were seated overlooked the pool as I mentioned. Now, the girls and DH liked people watching. I sat with my back to the window, as people in various states of undress ARE NOT MY IDEA OF FINE DINING!!!!!!

That being said, in EVERY other way, Yachtsman is the clear, no hard choice, hands down winner. We :lovestruc this meal!

When Thomas first came by, with his napkin draped over his arm, I thought - Uh OH. He's going to be too stuffy, and this is not going to go well. There was a table behind us with everyone in suits, but other than that, we were the most dressed up there. The girls had on cotton dresses, I had on a skirt and blouse, and Dh was in a polo shirt and khaki shorts. I saw several men without collared shirts on.....

Anyway, Thomas turned out to be a gem, with a dry sense of humor, but very attentive and nice to the girls.

For apps: I was adventurous and took his recommendation of escargot. I have only had them once before, but I must say, the Yachtsman does a great job with them. They do have a lot of garlic, which was nice. The consistency was similar to button mushrooms, believe it or not. I really enjoyed them! It was served with a puff pastry on the side, which was just fluff, in my opinion. I did have a bite, and it was good, but too much other good stuff to come!

DD1 got a salad, which she really enjoyed.

DD2's app was chicken noodle soup, and she liked it, also.

DH got the lobster bisque, again on Thomas' reccomendation. Now he really enjoyed the lobster bisque at Chefs, but he said this one knocked it out of the water, and was one of the best foods he had eated EVER. I took one taste, and found it disgusting. But don't take my word for it, I hate the stuff!

The do bring bread service, with sourdough rolls and onion pull apart bread. They were both good, but the onion bread, which I thought I would love, was not our favorite. The sourdough was crusty on the outside, but moist on the inside. PERFECT!

On to the entrees:

I had the NY strip. Thomas said this was their signature steak, so I gave it a try. It was served with a rich, black peppercorn brandy sauce on top. I enjoyed the flavor, but if you are not a fan of pepper, ask for it on the side. There was also a white cheddar potato gratin, and I took a few bites of it. It was good, but I just couldn't handle more! All in all, a very, very tasty plate! I had the recommended glass of wine, which was an Australian red. Very good!

DH: of course he got the porterhouse, 28oz. HUGE cut of beef! And he finished it all! It came with fries, that were the best we had all week. I ate one, and they were delicious. He said the steak was very, very tender and flavorful.

We did a switch for the girls. DD2 LOVES steak, and DD1 hates it. So, she order the strip also. Yes, a huge amount of beef for a 3 year old, but she only had a bit. We did get the sauce on the side for her, which she loved to dip her steak in. We had Thomas box the rest, but it eventually got tossed. No room in the tummy!

DD1 got the grilled chicken kids meal, which came with cooked carrots and mashed potatoes. She ate the chicken, but hates cooked carrots. When she went to the restroom, Thomas came back by and said "When she comes back, be sure to tell her kids can't leave until they eat all their carrots." For some unknown reason, she believed him. She actually ate about half of one, and I really thought she was going to vomit. She proceeded to quickly pass the other 4 along to the rest of the family, and he came by and said "What did you do with the carrots, young lady?" She said "I tried, I promise. If you bring me some uncooked, I'll eat them all. I just can't do it." He laughed, and rubbed her back. So the stuffiness I was afraid of really wasn't there at all!

Another side note: there was a young Asian couple beside us. They didn't know enough English to decipher the menu well, and the girl ended up with the porterhouse. When it came out, her jaw dropped, and I thought she was going to pass out just looking at it! They did have someone on staff with what seemed to be a limited amount of knowledge of their language, and he helped them with their dessert choices and understanding the dining plan they were on and the bill, which I thought was nice.

After these HUGE steaks, dessert. You gotta be kidding me? I asked for Thomas' input again, and he recommended a sundae. It was a trio of sorbets, with cherries. Very good, but I could only eat a few tastes. The girls got Mickey dessert puzzles, and DH had creme' brulee', which I tasted and was very, very good.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040465.jpg

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040467.jpg
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040468.jpg

Thomas was impeccable. The timing of delivery of the courses, keep drinks filled, perfect. He had a little crumb brush, and cleaned the table before bringing dessert! He was also very personable.

Finally, the table I mentioned in suits? The chef kept bringing out their food along with the waiter, and we noticed a little VIP attention going on. Curiousity got the best of us, and DH asked who they were. Thomas laughed, and said the manager's wife. He went on to share that lots of celebs eat there, including Mariah Carey frequently, and that we were sitting at Regis' table, and DD2 was in his seat! He said the Yacht club has a high security area, good enough for the President, and the Yachtsman is a favorite of them all.

All in all, it was a wonderful meal. We will definitely be back, and we will ask for Thomas. It lasted 2 hours, and our girls behaved perfectly throughout! :yay:

I've kind of been on the fence about Yachtsman because we've been to a few good steakhouses and wondered if it had anything special to offer but after your review its a definite ADR for us on our next trip!

You will NOT be disappointed. We liked the early seating, and went to DHS for EMH afterwards, but the whole Boardwalk area is right there, too for afterwards. Ask for Thomas - he's a class act!

This was another favorite from our last trip, and did not disappoint! We had an 8:15 time, skipped the pic with Donald, and went in. Our waiter was Rudi, and he was fabulous! I actually kept the receipt with the price from this one, and is was $94.75 for 3 adults 1 child. Seeing that just blows me away. Thank goodness for the DxDDP!

In fact, that's one reason we get it. It is a lot of food, a lot of time, but there is so much less stress about the money we are spending while we are actually there.

For whatever reason, I didn't take food pictures. Maybe I was burned out of the whole picture thing, buffet pictures are hard, because someone always needs to get up and get another plate, a character is coming, you miss a plate, whatever.

But I will give reviews:

Again, the yummy juice. The last time we'll get it. Coffee. What more can you want?

I went for a carb feast. They have these cream cheese filled roll ups, called cheese blintzes, with fruit toppings, that are worth the trip alone! Very, very good. I topped mine with cherry filling, like cherry pie filling. Mmmm...... I had a 1/2 a bagel, with an herbed spread that was very good. Not enough carbs for you? I also had some banana-cinnamon bread budding with vanilla sauce that was every bit as good as Ohana serves. And the fruit. Lots of fruit!

DH loves all the different foods here. I am not big on foods being mixed together, so they don't appeal to me. He had a ham and cheese frittata, corned beef hash, some carved ham, the beef bobotie quiche, which seemed to have sausagey stuff in it, and a yam casserole. He declared each and every dish to be delicious. Just not my personal cup of tea!

DD1 - you guessed it, bacon, watermelon, and she had 2 doughnuts. Such a healthy breakfast!

DD2 had biscuits and gravy, and some grapes.

Character interaction here is great, plus I think it's the only meal with Daisy. Donald was outside, and Goofy, Mickey, and Daisy, were inside.

Or as DD1 calls it Yak and Yucky! We were not at all hungry, and probably should have just cancelled. The girls were a bit hungry, and we were all HOT and tired, so we went in.

We were promptly seated, and still damp from Kali. IT WAS FREEZING IN THERE! I actually went to bathroom to try to warm up with the hand dryer, but it didn't work.

Wendy was our waitress, and by far the worst of the week. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but her fake smile and walk as if she were heading to her death bed, not refilling drinks, and general inattentiveness could not be called good service. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and remember that this is their JOB, and we all have bad days at work. She wasn't rude or anything.

APPS: I got my lettuce cups, that I thought were sooo good last year. I think my brain was frozen and I forgot the pictures. They were good, the meat to go in them is tasty, and the shredded veggies are fresh and give it a nice crunch. I shared with DH, and he shared his pot stickers with me. They were pretty good, too. DD1 got wonton soup for her app, and she and DD2 shared it. It helped to warm them up, and she said it was good.

Entrees: Since we weren't hungry, we decided to try something different. I ordered mahi mahi.
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040571.jpg

I don't like breaded fish, and the fish itself was very dry. The sauce was okay, but rather sweet. I like their coconut rice, so I had a little bit of that and ate my veggies. I would NOT order this again.

DH ordered the curry seafood:
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040570.jpg

It had mussels, shrimp, not sure what else. He didn't care for it at all. He just said it wasn't good, and couldn't really tell me why.

DD1 got the crispy honey chicken, and she didn't like it either. DH tasted it, and said the chicken was dry, but it had a decent flavor. It was just out of her little box, I guess.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040573.jpg

DD2 got the kids burger with fried rice. She liked the rice, and ended up eating mostly that. It also came with jello.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040569.jpg

I was soo cold, we didn't get dessert pics either. DH and I both got the fried wontons, which were my reason for coming back. I was highly disappointed, they were very tough, yet greasy. The flavor of the sauce and ice cream were still good, though. ;)

DD1 got the sorbet trio. Mango, lemon, and raspberry. She loved the lemon, gave her sister the raspberry.

All in all we were VERY disappointed with one of last year's favorites. To top it off, they do the bill differently here. The waitress writes it down, and give you a written total. Well, we filled out the charge paper for tip according to what she wrote, and her service. When the computerized copy came out, the total on that was less than what it was on the written bill. I wish I had it, it was only a few dollars, but we would have knocked even more off the tip!

Chalk it up, move on, but we won't be back for a few years!

Wonderful updates, I'm so glad you loved Yatchman's Steakouse. We went to Narcoossee's a few times and I wanted to Try a few different restaurants this trip. Sorry, you did not like Yak and Yeti (another one that we are trying and been reading good reviews...I'm hoping it turns out well for us but if not at least we tried it once). Your girls outfits are so adorable. I had asked the disboard where they get their outfits and a few wrote etsy.com, I can't sew either so I have to order some stuff for our Holiday Disney trip.
I'm enjoying your report and can't wait for more

We really liked Y&Y last time. Part of it could be we didn't order the things that sounded best to us. Since we weren't really hungry, we stepped out and ordered something different. Plus, when you are full, nothing is that great. Our waitress was not good, no matter how you bounce that ball, but I don't expect everyone to be a shiny, happy person all the time, and try to just chalk it up to a bad day! The steak and shrimp that DH had last year was really, really good!

After having finished lunch only 4 hours before, we WERE NOT HUNGRY. I wanted lite and refreshing. The fact that we had eaten so much this day will contribute to the "view" and review of this restaurant.

Decor - pretty, nothing spectacular!
Service - she was okay, again, nothing spectacular
Food - with a few exceptions, it all tasted alike, regardless of what it was supposed to be.

As I stated, buffet food pictures at character meals, especially, were just not happening. But here you go!

Strawberry soup - it is good. Similar, to me, to a non-tangy strawberry yogurt. It was refreshing, as much as something with heavy cream in it can be, so it fit the bill.

Salad - I made a salad, and that was definitely good!

Main dishes - the prime rib, especially with the horseradish, was very tasty!
HOWEVER, I tasted paella, chicken marsala, stir fry. They were all very bland, and all tasted exactly alike. The girls got some pizza, maybe some mac and cheese, fruit, typical kids cuisine. DD1 ended up eating bread and fruit. She didn't like anything she ate.
DH tried a variety of dishes, proclaimed them all edible but not great, with the exception of the prime rib.

Desserts - there were a variety of these, the lemon cheesecake tart was really good. Bread pudding was okay. The girls got soft serve, and liked it.

Character interaction: At the end of the day, the characters are really why we book these ADR's, right? It's not supposed to be about food!

Cindy - she was sweet. After she spoke, they played her music for her and Prince to dance, and she promised to come back, which she did. However, it was speak, make a comment about being sisters and hoping they got along better than she did with hers, "come stand for a picture" pose, and leave. We found that we had much better Cindy interaction at Akershus.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040576.jpg

Ahh... the Prince. DD2 talks about dancing with Prince Charming daily. When she is "playtending" she is going on a date with Prince Charming. She is going to marry Prince Charming when she grows up. I couldnt' wait for this one. I just KNEW she was going to be starry eyed. WELL, he walks up, and the kid VAULTS across the table without a pole into her Daddy's lap. I guess sometimes, meeting your fantasyman is just too much REALITY! She did agree for a picture with him IF her Daddy would hold her.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040577.jpg

However, one of our best memories from this trip involved him, and had nothing to do with our family. When it came time to chose people to dance with, the Prince went to a lady that appeared to be in her 40's with Down Syndrome. When she stood up, she bowed to him, and they danced, and then at the end she bowed a few more times with such sincerity. It was so very sweet and special, and DH and I both were crying watching. It was the magic of Disney at it's best.:cloud9:

Lady Tremain - she was okay. We had met a different one last year, and she was much more amusing. Although, she did have the girls hold their hands together so they wouldn't touch her, and when DD2 said "Is that the stepmother?" She said "I have a name, child." It was funny.
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040581.jpg

The stepsisters were a lot of fun, and really interacted with the girls, fixing hairbows, trying on her hairbow. They were LOUD and wild. DD1 had fun dancing with Anastasia!

All in all, not a bad time! Since, for us, the main objective was for DD2 to meet the Prince, and that flopped so badly,, we left, again, saying "This is not a must do." Honestly, if in a few years the kids want to go back, we might. And I can see them wanting to be with the stepsisters again, but not for Cindy!

Thanks for another wonderful update. I have been truelly enjoying your report. 1900 Park Fare is once time for us too b/c my son didn't eat anything there except bread. There was a magical moment, I was getting myself food and when I got back to the table I asked my husband where was our 3yr son...he said Cinderrella came to the table and asked him to dance with her I was so shocked b/c my son is sooooo shy that he actually went to her w/o me saying ok. It was a beautiful moment but my husband was so ahhh:cloud9 during the whole time that he forgot to video tape and luckily I was there at the end that I was able to take a few pictures. It was a magical moment and my son still talks about the private dance that he was chosen my Cinderella and Prince Charming afterwards and asked my son how was the dance, etc. He was so talkative with Prince (I was so shock). It funny how we think how are child would react but then would surprise us in so many ways. My son is still shy but when he goes to Disney he is a different child.

So, we as usual this week, roll the kids out of bed for another early breakfast. We know the importance of early mornings in the Florida summers!

We got there right on time for our 8:25 ADR. I would have preferred an 8:00, but by the time we decided to add DXDP and this meal, I was glad to have gotten this one! We checked in and were seated immediately after taking the picture with Belle. These pictures are not the time for quality character interaction, I must say. But she was sweet!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040673.jpg

We were seating in the main dining area. It does feel like a castle in there, versus the side room we were in last year.

We had the BEST waitress of our trip here. She was sooo sweet, her name was Stine. She told us that she only has a little over a month left here before she has to go back, and it is maybe 13 months after that before she can apply to come back. She really doesn't want to go back to Norway!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040691.jpg

Again, no real food pictures due to the characters! There is a buffet you can start with, there are a lot of "safe foods" there such as bagels, ligonberry muffins, which are delish!!!!! I wish I could have one right now with my coffee! Yogurt, croissants, cheese cubes (Muenster and another) and fruit! There was a section of cold meats, fishes, etc. That is NOT in my comfort zone. DH had tried it last year, not in his either! The girls loved the butter pats shaped like raspberries!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040690.jpg

They bring a plate to the table with eggs, bacon, sausage, and the best potato dish in WDW, a cheesy potato casserole. It's worth the trip just for these potatoes. Oh so very yummy!!!!

The princesses there were: Aurora

Snow White:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040678.jpg

DD2's favorite - Ariel. Once DD told her she was her favorite princess, she stopped and really interacted and spent time with her. It was sweet!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040682.jpg

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040684.jpg

Then came Cinderella.
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040688.jpg

DD1 asked Cinderella where Jaq and Gus were this morning. She has learned to get better interaction, you have to talk to the characters. Well, Cinderella told her they were at home, but probably getting hungry. She stated she should take them some cheese. Well, DD2 picks up a square of her Muenster cheese of her plate, puts it in Cinderella's hand and says "give this to Gus from me". :lmao: Poor Cindy. She was very elegant and gives DD a big hug and said "I am going to take this in the back and have them put it in a box for him". She of course, had to leave the dining room to "box up the cheese". ;) I wonder if she put on new gloves?

We had a great time here. Honestly, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White kinda rushed by, but Ariel and Cinderella were great. This is on our list of must-dos, at least as long as our girls love the princesses. A great way to start a day at Epcot!!!!

One reason the DxDP works for us, mostly, is that our girls don't eat a lot at one time. Like most kids, they graze, then they are hungry again soon after. We used snack credits today to keep them full!

France- they split a chocolate crepe from the crepe cart. It was basically a crepe with chocolate syrup poured over it. DH and I shared a water. Not hungry!

Japan - We all got Kaki Goris. DD1 got the rainbow, DD2 got the honeydew melon, which was VERY GREEN! She liked it, though. DH and I split a red one, don't remember the flavor, something berry. They were good. The girls remembered these from last year, and couldn't wait!

African outpost - DD2 got a frozen lemonade. DD1 was holding out for another popcorn cart!

Norway - Ahhh.. the Kringla bakery. Oh sooo many decadent and huge choices! It was hard to pick! DH and I split the almond pretzel, which was huge! DD1 shared with us also! It was good, not too sweet. We also split a berry creme puff. It was definitely big enough for two. The cream was not sweet, so it wasn't overpowering at all. He took the top half, I took the bottom! I want to say the girls got a chocolate chip cookie or something to share, but I am not really sure. We also all got waters again!

Somewhere along the way, DD did get her popcorn!

Have I mentioned how much DH loves Ohana? :lmao: Well, since I have already reviewed it once, I won't take a lot of time. The food was still delicious, the service was not as spectacular, but still good. Gabe was our waiter this time.

We didn't linger as long this time, and were surprisingly finished in just over an hour! "Lei lady" still did her thing, but maybe not as long, plus no Father's Day thing. There was a couple getting married in the Wedding Pavilion the next morning, and they were having their rehearsal dinner. They got to lead the "parade" around the restaurant, and were given golden maracas to take home, we all toasted them. I thought that was just very cool. I hope one of my DDs, if not both, want to get married at WDW, Ohana would be a cool place for a rehearsal dinner!

Your daughter is so cute giving Cinderella the cheese. The Princess storybook breakfast is new for us on our next trip but I my son loves character meals so I'm doing as much as possible in this trip. I'm hoping my husband likes the food selection but as you say we snack around the world since we are trying DxDDP.
Thanks for a great update.

If he likes breakfast foods, he'll love it. The family style platter is refilled as needed, and the buffet is good for pastries and fruit. I think your prince will love the princesses!

We were definitely full, and only ate a bit for lunch!

Welcome back! Great reviews! I agree with you, seeing people in bathing suits is not my idea of fine dining, but glad that the rest of YS made up for that!

Aww! What a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing.

Just caught up with your reviews. I was especially intereseted in your report, as I'm taking my son back in February and am debating about whether or not we should do the DxDDP. There is a part of me that thinks...will my son really want to spend all that time eating? My husband and I did the DxDDP and, well, you are spending a lot of time eating. At the same time, I know that it would cover EVERYTHING we could want to eat or drink while we're there and the thought of CS doesn't exactly excite me...dealing with long lines, trying to find tables, etc.

Great review of Tusker House, another must for us on this next trip, as my son loves Donald and I SWEAR he has a huge crush on Daisy.

Also glad to hear that your daughters enjoyed their meal at Yatchsman...wondering about taking my son to signature meals? :confused3

Don't know yet.

Don't know yet.

Hear's my 2 cents for you: 1. Character meals are a great way to start the day, and leave MORE time in the parks b/c you don't have to wait in lines. We probably won't do DxDP anymore once the kids are over the characters, but for now, DH and I decided that it's part of the experience. IF you can get everyone up and moving early enough to have early ADR's and finish around rope drop, character breakfasts are great.

2. If you can get there early on check in day, and stay a little later on check out day, you have more time to spread out your credits.

3. It was great to be able to give the kids popsicles, etc. whenever they wanted them, w/o worrying about the money.

4. I see you are going in February. I think the parks aren't open as long in the evenings, so the TS dinners would take away from touring time, unless you can do late ones. But honestly, my girls appreciated the time to sit and relax! However, the few times we did 3 meals a day, it was too much.

5. My girls did Narcoosee's at 2 and 9, and Yachtsman at 3 and 10. They did very, very well at both. Give him a try!

6. Not dealing with CS was a MAJOR draw for us to DxDP.

In the end, we decided paying a bit more, and possibly "wasting" some money, was worth the end result of not having to wait in lines or stressing over the money!

So one thing my DD1 mentioned she wanted was a trip to Chef Mickey's. That was part of the reason we added DxDP, was to get her there. Of course, our only option was 7am on our "check out day". But it was there, so we got it.

It wasn't as painful to do since we were at BLT. :lovestruc the walk of 5 minutes to get there!

The girls were puffy eyed, but glad to be there.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040746.jpg

For us, the meal photos irritate us. We don't want them, we know we aren't going to pay for them, so we skip them whenever possible. CM didn't make that quite so easy, so we snapped a pic with our camera first. ;)

The food. Well, it's okay. Honestly, last year we had dinner AND breakfast at CM, and thought the breakfast was better. If that's still the case, I'd hate to have dinner there now. The standards were fine, eggs, Mickey Waffles, fruit, etc. After a week of that, it didn't excite us. As I've mentioned before, casserole type stuff doesn't excite me either, but I did add a veggie quiche and another type of egg mix to my plate. This was my plate when I was mostly done, I did finish the Mickey Waffle.

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040747.jpg

DH likes mixes, and even he said they weren't good! DD2 tried the breakfast pizza, and spit it out. So it MUST have been terrible! The girls did their usual bacon and fruit, and grabbed a bowl of cereal, too. There is no milk on the buffet, you have to ask for it. EVERYONE gets orange juice when you sit down, and I asked for coffee. It was funny, b/c the waiter could tell by the look on my face I needed it, and poured my coffee before the juice. He poured it, I grabbed it, and he said "Momma happy, everyone will be happy!"

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040751.jpg

Something that wasn't pictured were the cream cheese blintzes. DH remembered them from last year, and really wanted some, as did I. They did not disappoint!

But again, we were here for the characters! We thought they spent a decent amount of time with us, were all fun!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040754.jpg

I had to have a hug from Mickey, last year this was our check out day breakfast, too, so I guess this is a tradition now for us. I cried last year when I told him goodbye, and this year I got a bit teary eyed again!

DD got a giggle from Donald, when she told him she loves Mickey's Philharmagic, but it should be called Donald's, because he is the real star!

Minnie was there, too. I don't know why I can't find her pic, I guess I didn't load it into photobucket!

The birds. Since CM is near the monorail entrance, birds do come in. Here's one that landed next to our table, I guess looking for crumbs!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040763.jpg

Okay, so the food here is NOT amazing. But, the girls love it, and it's a great way to end a Disney trip, or begin one. I'm sure we will be back for check out day breakfast, especially now that it is soo close to our home! Would we make the trip over again from elsewhere? Probably not, unless the girls REALLY wanted it. Because, for us, part of the magic of Disney are the character meals, and my girls loving it. Kinda like in Polar Express, when they can't hear the bell anymore I'll be sad, so I'll keep ringing it as long as possible.

OKay. I will admit it. I am obsessed with the castle. My pictures are full of shots of it from different angles, and different colors. I have a "castle" collection, and every year I have to buy something with the castle on it. This year, it was a mug. It started as a child whose parents wouldn't take her to WDW, and then as a newlywed, when it was the Pepto pink monstrosity. I cried for days, it was so bad, I'd waited 21 years, and it was awful! DH bought me a snowglobe with the castle in it on that trip, and so the collection begins.

Secretly, eating in the castle was one of MY favorite memories from last year. Getting that 8am ADR on the day I wanted it just blew me away, and I cried for joy. When DD2 mentioned it was her favorite place, I was excited to try for an ADR and add DxDP. Well, the only time I could get one at that short notice was 2pm on our check out day. Not optimal, but we saved it for a surprise.

I kept checking for a breakfast during the week, NOTHING ever came open. I was apprehensive about the lunch menu, but it ended up being Dh's 3rd favorite after Ohana and Yachtsman, and that's saying a lot!

We got there a few minutes early, and were taken into the castle to wait for Cindy. I took some pictures while we waited.

DD1 spotted Jaq and Gus

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040826.jpg

We had our Cindy meet and greet, and she remembered the girls from a previous meal during the week. It was fun! She was really sweet, and we ascended those red carpeted steps to the dining area, and were given a great table with a window view:

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040830.jpg

The girls got their wands and stars. Forgive DD1's afro, the humidity killed her hair that morning!

We were served the "chef's selection" of lunch appetizers: bruschetta, cheese, salad, grapes, and artichokes. The girls like the brushcetta after they scraped off the toppings, the grapes, and the cheese. We were given two plates of this selection.

It was nice and cool on a hot day, and lite. PERFECT!

DH, DD1, and I all ordered the salad with chicken. It was greens, small chunks of Granny Smith apples, blue cheese, walnuts, dried cranberries, with a grilled chicken breast on top, and a viniagrette dressing. Let me tell you. DH is not big on salad, but we all proclaimed this to be a perfect one, and tried to recreate it one day this week. It was a perfect lunch! Delicious! The portion was HUGE, the picture does not do it justice!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040839.jpg

DD2 got chicken noodle soup, pasta and chicken, and grapes maybe? She all but cleaned her plate, so it must have been good!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040840.jpg

Somehow, I missed the dessert pictures. I think I was taking DD2 to the bathroom. The chocolate desserts the "adults" got were very good, like a mini chocolate brownie with cream cheese inside, DH got the rice pudding, and loved it, and DD1 got some sort of sundae with a chocolate crown on top. She liked it, too!

The girls enjoyed the wishing ceremony, I can't tell you how many times I 've had a wand in my face this week with Bibbity, Bobbity, BOO being chanted!

and Blue Dress Belle:

DD1 was disappointed, Jasmine was there last year, not this year, and she really wanted to see her again. Other than that, it was a perfect meal, and I see lunch having taken over from breakfast as our CRT must do. The only bad note was that we had the disappearing waitress again, which bugged me knowing the gratuity was included. However, people around us were receiving GREAT service, so don't judge the whole place by her!

Wait, I've been talking about check out day. What are we doing eating dinner in WDW at 8pm? Well, 1 WEEK before our trip, DH and I start talking about how it will be at least 3pm before we can leave, and the 12 hour drive will be rough. He had me call to see if Hilton Head had anything open that night, so we could stop halfway and rest, hang out on the beach Sunday, and then drive home. NOPE! BUT BLT did have a lakeview studio open for that night, so we grabbed it! We switched rooms before heading to MK that morning, it was a great surprise for the girls to get one more night! In fact DD1, after entering the castle to eat, said "Mom, Chef Mickey's, an extra night, and CRT, my heart is racing.":cloud9:

So for our final dinner, we chose WCC. We had honeymooned at WL, and wanted to go back, show it to the girls. We remembered WCC because they made us ride the stick ponies when they found out it was our anniversary, and thought the girls would enjoy it!

So we were seating at our ADR time. Nice! Our waitress comes to explain the menu. She misunderstood when we said we were on DxDP, and said "You made the right decision. The DxDP is a huge waste of money, because no family needs all those appetizers. :scared1:" Okay, that kinda ticked me off. She left us to decide on drinks. The girls, of course, chose milkshakes. DD1 asked for bubble gum, and loved it. It was NASTY!!!! WAYYYY toooo sweet!
DD2 got strawberry, but only drank 3 sips. DH also decided to get them tink cups, since we hadn't all week. THAT was a great decision. Since DD2 hadn't napped, she played with those tinks to keep her occupied!

The waitress came back, and when we told her we were on the DxDP, her jaw dropped. She took the drink orders, DH ordered tea and I ordered water, also. DD1 and I chose nachos for our apps, and DH got the barbeque spring rolls. The nachos with cheese/salsa dipping sauce were huge hits for the girls, which was good b/c they didn't care for their entrees. Dh's spring rolls were very tasty!
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040899.jpg
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040902.jpg

DH and I downed our drinks very quickly, so she brought refills. A carafe of water for me, and a half gallon jug of tea for DH.
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040905.jpg

With all the drinks on the table, it was really full, and I HATE clutter!

As for the antics, we had about 50 straws on the table. The waitresses were loud! They had us make airplane noises to entice one girl to eat, sing happy birthday off key to a gentleman celebrating, before the waitress ate his cupcake! :scared1: There were also couples celebrating anniversaries, and they had to kiss while we counted to 10.

The waitress apologized profusely when she brought our apps, and asked for our help removing her foot from her mouth!

For entrees - DH and I got the skillet. Ok, it was NOT good to me! Brisket, ribs, barbecued chicken, corn, cornbread, baked beans. I don't love barbeque! I ate a few bites of brisket, but the cornbread was really good. The ribeye sounded appealing, but I didn't really want ANOTHER steak!
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040912.jpg

DD1 got pasta and chicken.
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040913.jpg

And of course, DD2 just had to choose a cheeseburger and fries. That meant she needed ketchup. The girls LOVED yelling "We need ketchup", and we promptly ended up with 16 bottles on the table from various diners!

http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff360/tarynscruggs/Disney%202010/P1040911.jpg

MORE CLUTTER! Okay, by this point, I was OVER this meal. Call it leaving tomorrow blues, call it loud, call it clutter. But I was DONE! Everyone else in the family was having a GREAT time, though. The girls loved the pony races!

So it was time to order desserts. By this time, it was almost 10:00. We did not want anything else to eat, and I was mad b/c I had wanted to see the fireworks from BLT one more time. DO NOT GO HERE FOR A FAST MEAL! We got desserts to go - DD1 and I ordered smore's cheesecake. She was disappointed b/c she thought there was going to be an actual smores on top. Nope, just a few mini marshmallows and some chocolate syrup. Dh got the pecan pie, and DD2 got 2 chocolate chip cookies. Sorry, no pics since they came boxed up.

We also boxed up the immense amount of food still in the skillet, and DH ended up eating this for dinner about 2 days after we got home. The desserts were breakfasts the next morning before we left.

We had also gotten bakery goodies for breakfast, so the girls ate doughnuts and a cinnamon roll.

WOW, my last meal. I'll do a wrap up, final thoughts, etc, maybe later today!

I tell you, there were some people in there grumbling about the cost. I, however, find it no more overpriced than a comparison of some of the other meals we had. You are paying to eat in the castle. If you don't love the castle, don't get the magic, this is not a meal for you! Have something somewhere else! Glad we're not the only ones that prefer lunch. Breakfast is great, don't get me wrong, but we prefer the lunch.

Thanks so much for your dining reviews! We really like Akershus for breakfast too! I thought we had really great interaction there and decent food!

We have a ressie for WCC this year. We ate there last year and thought the food was just okay. I, like you, really don't care much for bbq food. But I really did love the chicken on the skillet, and the corn on the cob and cornbread were good as well. I know you can order other entrees, but I don't think any really appeal to me? So I'm still debating on this one. We did have fun last year when we went though, so DH thinks we should go again. Hmm....

Great update. We went to CM dinner last time and the food was not good but my son request CM b/c he wants to see the characters there. We are trying breakfast. That's why I too added DxDDP for all the character meals. I figure I might do as many now b/c one day my son will outgrow going to character meals and when that day comes it will be very sad for me.Thank you so much for sharing andI have truelly enjoyed your food review.I love the girls ouftits at CM.

We kind of see it like the Polar Express - as long as they can hear the bell, we will keep ringing it!

Awesome reviews..the pics were great and the food looks super yummy.
It was nice to hear something positive about CRT since so many people seem to not think it's worth the money.

For us, CRT will always be worth the money!!!!! ;)

Ahh...

I've loved your reviews, especially since I just made an ADR for breakfast at 'Ohana. I think the kids will love it there. Now, I'm debating whether or not to do dinner at 1900 Park Fare. DD9, DS7 & DD3 would love the characters, but I wondered if you would recommend another place. Would you pick Chef Mickey's over it? I just like that it's different characters. We will already see Mickey & Pluto at 'Ohana. Yet, we are doing the Royal Table breakfast as well. I've heard the step sisters are a riot--yet my DH is more about the food! :) Would you go back here or pick a different character meal? Also, we'll be coming from Epcot..does the monorail just drop you off at front?

Loved your review. Quick question--we have ADR's at 'Ohana for both breakfast and dinner. We have never been before and am wondering if they do the same things for the kids at both meals (morrocas, limbo, coconut races) or are they totally different experiences? Since we are paying oop, I just want to make sure we do a lot of different dining experiences. Thanks!!

I think your kids would like 1900. I've heard many, many people say it's one of their favorite meals. We saw several couples in there without kids. The food was okay. The monorail from Epcot will take you to the TTC, and you will transfer to the resort monorail from there, and drop you off at the GF. The restaurant is in the lobby. If it's about the food, I would say 1900PF has better food than Chef Mickey's.

Oh honey. You can't miss either of these meals. The dinner at Ohana has a lady that leads the entertainment, coconut races, hula dancing, etc. She's fabulous, and loads of fun. You do get leis at both meals, but I would say they have different feeling by far! The breakfast little parade is with the characters, the dinner one is with the "hula lady" and her ukelele! The similarities pretty much end there. To be honest, I can't imagine a trip to WDW without both of these. And we loved Stitch!!!!
