These are from the weekend here near our home where they reenact the Battle of Stoney Creek from the War of 1812 when the Americans tried attacking Canada, this battle was pivotal in turning them away. Its a very interesting story to anyone thats interested, but this was the furthest that American ground forces got into Canada, getting stopped before they reached Burlington Heights which would of given them a great advantage... good thing we are all friends now eh!:hippie:

I took over 800 photos this weekend and have only started to go through them. These people were so photgenic its amazing, BTW I've only cropped and resized these photos, there has been xero photoshopping, colour correction, or tinkering with the exposures. I think I love my Pentax Fixed lenses! used a M 200mm f4, and 50mm f1.4 most of the time.

100% crop of the previous photo, I'm amazed by the amount of fire so close to their hands!

Do post more. I love reenactments. Some nice shots there.

Powder burns were a regular occurance - on hands and faces - for 19th century soldiers prior to the advent of the percussion cap, which didn't really take widespread hold until around the time of the American Civil War in the 1860s.

Was that when smokeless gunpowder came out?

Thanks, I will go through and find more worthy of posting.

Was that when smokeless gunpowder came out?

No, on a flintlock musket (as used in the war of 1812) the hammer falls down onto a pan and the flint strikes against the metal plate, sparking and igniting loose powder that is just sitting in the pan, and that sends some fire down a small tube into the barrel to ignite the charge and fire the musket. With percussion caps the metal cap (like on a child's cap gun) sits on the nipple and a small amount of powder inside is fired by pressure from the hammer fall but the charge is directed into the barrel instead of flashing more loosely everywhere else around the hands and face - much less smoke and fire around the trigger area than with the older flintlock-style.

Note the smaller amount of smoke around the firing soldier's trigger hand:

Cannon Smoke.

Cannon Fire. This one is a little out of focus, it was dusk and I switched lenses to my 50mm FA 1.4. I was disappointed with most of my outdour pics with it this trip. I just kept stumbling with it. All my fault because I was loving my 200mm most of the day but I like the look of the Cannon fire, this has a good healthy crop on it as well.

I saw him later at the Tecumseh oration and asked him to look menacing... this is what I got, I'm pretty sure he rolled his eyes!
