This may be sort of a dumb question, but WHY, do you suppose, is Disney increasing per-point prices so often ( and so much )?

"Capitalism" comes to mind.

A fair price for anything is whatever the market will bear, seems to be bearing the latest price uncrease pretty well.

Disney is motivated by profit. They are not in existance to provideentertainment and lodging. They provide entertainment and lodging to makes a profit. The object of any business is to maximize your profit.

I do think this increase has something to do with VWL selling so quickly...I think they may be trying to slow down sales so there isn't a lapse in availability on WDW property between the seel out of VWL and the completion of BCV.

But of course it does all come down to supply and demand....apparently there is a great demand for this limited supply of points!

Could it also have something to do with the overall WDC cutbacks? If they can milk as much money out of DVC while it's hot and save money by cutting back in other areas, the WDC bottom line might look pretty good this year...
I feel lucky that I paid "only" $67 per point.

Dave- I'm not an money-type person, but would dvc having a good year really make a major impact on wdc's profits? I'm guessing it only makes up a small part (1-5%) of disneys profits. Mabe I'm wrong, please tell me if i am.

That's a good question. I don't have an answer but I would think that DVD makes up a larger percentage of WDC profits than that. Not all of Disney's interests are making money right now. In fact, the internet division has tanked and the feature film division is not doing so well. I think that the current rush on DVC points is probably a hefty cash infusion for WDC...
As always, I could be dead wrong. :)

How high will they go?

Disney could sell sand to the Arabs,

If we buy(and I am one of them) and continue to show a good flow points sales for the latest property result, greed says to the Disney Villians (the accountants) that they show try to slow the market for a number of reasons:

1. Sell the new resort early and sack the staff.
2. Why not slow sales a little buy increasing the cost a little.

They will do both and make lots of money.

If Walt continues to turn in his grave the way we think, after what the money people have done to the great name of Disney. Walt should have represented the U.S. in the Olympics.

I still don't think that they have overstepped their bounds. It is still a great deal. Trust me I am in for a lot. If you think its too much, wait till you see what you can rent or sell your points for.

took the time to view and/or respond to my inquiry.

It sure is comforting to know that DVC-ers are so willing to share their views.
