Well I was going to do a full TR but this cruise seemed so hectic and I never seemed to have time to write notes. So as I took quite a few photos I figured I would just post those with a quick explanation.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer - can't believe we've been back a month already.
We are Becx and Gav - Becky and Gavin. We flew from Stanstead in the UK to Barcelona on the day we boarded the ship, we would have liked to go earlier but couldn't get the time off work.
Here's all our stuff (we paid extra for two checked in bags and despite doing laundry twice! we wore most of what we took)

Looks like we had company already :goodvibes Kate and Charlotte (2 UK Diser's who couldn't come)

After all the cancelled flights in the days before we were so happy to be able to catch our original flight, I'm so glad we didn't have to go by train or drive :sad2:
Check in was pretty quick and we were soon through, we spotted a very Spanish looking Mickey and I had to get a photo :goodvibes

We booked a Cat 12 Gty and got upgraded to a Cat 9 :woohoo: We loved all the space.

Our first dinner was at Animators Palate - our rotation was APLAPLAPLAP and we were on the late seating.
I took this because everyone (there were 7 of us) at dinner was on their iPhone except me - I don't have one!

I can't remember who had what so I'll just post everything!

I ordered the green lentil risotto but they brought out the seafood one and I don't eat sea food - so I had to wait a bit :sad2:

It finally came
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1310/4604928462_d7559baf76_b.jpg
We skipped dessert as the sail away party was about to begin, we had asked our servers to bring things out quite quickly so we could make the party and they tried their best but I think everyone had the same plan.
The sail away party was good fun but quite late in the evening so there weren't that many people there (I know we were really tired as we had to get up at 4.30am Barcelona time to make our flights)

The first full day - a sea day.
We started with our character breakfast. It was ok but the characters were really quick and didn't stay long at our table, maybe because we were 4 adults but I don't think they should treat you differently if you don't have kids. The dining room didn't seem very busy either so we were a bit annoyed.

 hey there! Don't worry there are plenty more pics :goodvibes Wasn't feeling too good on Sunday so I had to stop  Better today so will try and get a few more posted tonight.
I'm sure all rooms could be upgraded (although I knwo some people like to stay where they booked) I was suprised how many upgrades there were - good luck to you, but even if you don't get one I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time :wizard:

We were fine thanks - so thankful we made it there and back without hassle. I feel for those who were affected (although maybe not the family we met at the airport who found out they couldn't get to Dublin so instead of staying in Barcelona a few days worked out it would be cheaper to do the next Med cruise - this was after doing the TA and the first Med cuise - NICE :thumbsup2 ;) )
Great photos .... love the story so far !
Thanks very much - I'll try and keep it entertaining :3dglasses

We then went to Studio Sea for the first of Disney's Art of Entertaining - the appetiser. I would have liked to have gone to the others but we missed them.
It was good, I personally didn't eat it as it was tuna but the wine was nice. The chef showed us how it was made and then everyone got a plate and a glass of wine.

Good plan, it's a good way to start writing TR's. At least you'll get plenty of use out of your new camera, I got a new one for this trip and I'm so glad I did.

Valletta is so pretty!
I would love to go back to Malta - I'd never really considered it as a holiday destination but we both loved it and it felt so safe. It was fun to see the British influences I just wish we'd had more days there to explore, maybe Disney should do an 11 week cruise with a week at each port :rotfl:

The bathrooms on the ship? They were awesome :lovestruc I actually don't remeber using many bathrooms out and about - ones that spring to mind, Sorrento we went to a farm and they were fine, Pompei was a bit wierd. A lot of them in Italy you use your foot to start the water! I helped a few confused people who were looking for the tap :rotfl: There were no nightmare bathrooms though :rotfl: If I remember more I'll let you know.

Second port Tunis, Tunisia.
We did the Bardo Museum and Medina for families tour.
Our first stop was the Bardo Museum.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1267/4606647843_fb5be3db1b_b.jpg
It's full of various mosaics, frescos and statues from all over the country. It was undergoing construction while we were there and I think it's due to last a while. It didn't affect what we saw really, there were a lot of things to see. It did get a little crowded in some areas as all the groups seemed to be going at the same pace and the same time :confused3 But if you waited a minute or two they would move on and it was easier to see things (but not to hear the guide!)

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3407/4607267442_f4a1da1a49_b.jpg
The museum is housed in an old Turkish Palace, you can still see the ornate ceilings in some areas.

These things were found in a ship wreck - and the blue is from the lights there, not sure why they had it like that? But it's quite a cool effect.

This was up stairs - there were a lot of stairs up and down which I don't think Disneys description of the tour conveyed all that well.

The bus stopped in Sorrento and dropped us off near a shop. They made furniture with veneer finishes, the prices were a bit beyond our range but there was no pressure to buy anything.
We were all given a voucher for a free drink at one of the cafe's in the town which I though was nice. Then we set off by foot to have a look around.

Thanks tink, too :thumbsup2 I'll try and get some posted later.
I found this on youtube - it's from Malta where someone filmed the ship coming in, during the day and leaving. You can see the cannons at the end from their perspective. I tried to edit the video I took but I need to install the software as it is an HD video and none of the programs we have can handle it.

Love the trip report, and your photos are fantastic! I'd love to know what kind of camera you took on the trip--we're camera shopping now for our upcoming Med cruise, and seeing your photos is making me all the more excited to find a great camera!

Wow, thanks for the video!!! Loved the canons...what a send off. And always a tear in the eye when the Magic blows it's horn...

The roads would be covered by human and animal waste so for people to cross they put in steping stones, but the horses and carriages still had to go along the road so the made gaps for the wheels!

66 more days and it will be my turn. Do you consider yourself an artist? I am reading between the lines (your door, flatties and picture commentations) your pictures show much artistry in them.
More great photos.
Strange how we don't often visit the places on our doorstep. Italy must be only a 2 or 3 hour flight, but I've never been.

Waffles, french toast and bacon

The port this day was La Spezia Italy - it's fairly close to Pisa and Florence is a bit futher. We stayed close by and went to Lerici and did the Lerici's Castle and Dinosaurs
We could see the ship from Lerici, this was taken on the way there - you can see the castle

If you don't mind, I'm going to steal your idea of the Flatties for my cruise in 2 weeks. My partner was not able to get the time off work, so although I'll have fun with my mum, sister and niece, it won't be the same without him. I'll make him into a Flattie and he can come along then!

When the coach driver was coming down the road he scraped the side of a car (which turns out was parked with the back sticking out) and so we had to wait for the police to come and sort it out (the coach driver and the lady who owned the car were arguing about who was to blame), it made a really loud sound as it hapened

We both loved the show, it's definately a different spin on things and very funny - lots of current themes in the jokes. I would see it again, we have also seen the Toy Story one and while we liked it we wouldn't go to see it again.

Hi Becky!
Thanks for your message!
It's great that Kate has a job but I am in two minds after we found out that she can't come about whether to cancel - I would love to have done the cruise with her and she is gutted that she is missing it.
I asked Tracy for another quote for a cheaper stateroom (cat 9 rather than 6) and at the moment I am still going as a solo (DH will be with me at WDW for a week but leaves the day before the cruise). I'm feeling rather anxious about it though and still may back out!! I would like to come because the last one sounded like so much fun. I like talking to people (I do it all day long for my job!) so that's not the issue - it's just that it will feel weird to do it on my own. I haven't announced my solo status on the podcast cruise board yet - have till end of September to decide!! I'll keep you posted!

We tried four varieties and they were all quite distinctive, I didn't take many pictures as it started to rain.
Next was a vineyard. They showed us around the area they made and bottled the wines then we got to try some as well as some bread and cheese.

The candy we thought was worth the money - there were better prices the more you bought (we got one nougat for ourselves and one for my Mum) there was a good offer on a bag of allsorts which was quite a good price, we just didn't want that much. I can't remember if they will ship it, maybe no one asked.
The honey was not cheap in my opinion and we can get similar honey here in the UK (not the same but if we want premium honey it's very similar) plus DH didn't really like them (he prefers the runny honey, some of the ones we tried were fairly solid) again not sure if they ship to the US - sorry I'm not much help

I thought I'd answer this one as Becx has been so busy putting all the pictures up!
Definitely preferred the red wine on the Sweet Corsica trip, but I didn't really rate any of the wines we tried at this tour stop.
The wines were quite young - 2009 and 2008. The whites were dry with an acidic taste and I personally am not so keen on that. Having said that, I did enjoy this stop. It was great to do the tour, even though we didn't actually go out into the vineyard.
The cheese and bread went really well with the red wine, so I had plenty!

In no particular order other than how quickly they come to memory...
1. Nougat Man from the Sweet Corsica tour. He was a riot. A true entertainer. If you are doing this tour then you're gonna love this guy.
2. The search for WIFI! Picture me walking around holding my phone at full arms length like a prat, looking for free WIFI at almost every opportunity I had....and a leap into the air on the three occassions that I actually found it. Fools gold man. Yes it was hi-larious.
3. Laugh-Yer-A$$-Off Lerici Tour Guide Woman.
Our tour guide at Lerici was great. She was really nervous bless her, but did a great job. She had this laugh that just cracked me up. I did a short interview with her on my Iphone about the tour and managed to record her laugh a few times within it. I'll see if I can upload it. Still makes me laugh when I hear it.
4. Yoohoo Man from the Flavours of Sorrento and Pompeii tour.
Ok let me explain. When we were doing the Pompeii tour, the tour guide had a tendency to get quite far ahead. Myself, DW, Pete, Walter, Max, Yvet & Emiel were the stragglers of the group. So everytime he'd almost get out of sight, he'd let out this "Yoooooohoooooo" to tell us to catch up. I'm not a dog and he's not my master, so we kept going at our own pace, making sure we took plenty of photos along the way. He was going far too quick. We did have radios to hear his commentary at each stop and the range was pretty good - about 20 metres, so we were able to hear most of what he said. Eerie static with subliminal messages if you went beyond that. So that's why I had such a desire to buy more Disney merchandise when back on the ship :rotfl:
5. Palo food. Yum yum yum. Best food on the ship, of course. If you are considering Palo, the brunch is superb. Some of those desserts were simply amazing - so rich. However, best dessert was the chocolate souffle at Palo dinner. The food from other restaurants had mixed reviews from our table (which you'll know if you've heard the podcast recordings we did, via the magic in the med wdwinfo page).
6. Room. Amazing. We were so lucky to get a category 9 and I must say, it spoilt me. Good size split bathroom, nice spacious room. I could live without the balcony. Thank goodness we have a cat 7 in December, because I am well and truly spoilt now. I know you spent very little time in your room and essentially it does not matter, but I really enjoyed the space we had. It felt like a normal hotel room.
7. Cove Cafe. If you're a coffee drinker, it has to be Cove. They had a great offer where you get a collector card. Each time you have a drink from Cove, they stamp the card. When you have 5 stamps (I think) on the card, the next drink is free....and that included alcoholic drinks. So you could buy 5 espressos and then get a free cocktail. Shhhhh I didn't say that. The cast members at Cove were great. I think that's what really makes Disney Cruise's so great for us - we always seem to find the great cast members. Our restaurant servers were great...we're now connected to some of the cast members on Facebook.....till we see them next time!
8. Of course the company I had on the cruise. Spending 11 magical days with my wonderful wife was way overdue. We both work full time, my days are long, I work at home too and our weekends are always go, go, go so we both really enjoyed spending some quality time together. Then on top of that, getting to spend that time with Pete, Walter, Max, Yvet and Emiel made it one super amazing trip to remember. We all had such a laugh and such great times together. I am soooo glad we saved and saved to go on this trip (and I mean we REALLY tightened the belts to make it happen). I will never forget it.
9. The farm we visited at Sorrento. Wow this place was great and quite humbling too. Showed me how simple life can be! By simple I don't mean easy, I mean back to basics. I distinctly remember how happy they all were. They produced some excellent quality olive oil, cheese and Limoncello here. We still have some lemon cream in the fridge, but what to do with it?
If we do another med cruise, I would definitely consider going on this tour again. The food they served was great. Fantastic flavours.
10. The cannons leaving the port at Malta. I know Becx has already mentioned this, but I want to reiterate how special it made you feel.....and you get that really cool delay from the cannons firing and seeing the smoke, to hearing the sound. Probably half a mile out of port at the time.
Looking back really reminds me how great this trip was.
Yoooooohooooooooooo :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

No the iron is free - the sign instructs you to set the timer but that is it!
You are not allowed an iron (one from the ship or your own) in your cabin so your stateroom host would not be able to bring one for you.
I found on a previous cruise the cost of getting garments ironed and delivered was quite reasonable if you only need a couple of things. I think if you need to iron anything and don't want to pay just make sure you go to the laundry room at a time when not many people are there. It's worth trying the other laundry rooms if the one you go to is busy, if you use the elevator it isn't too much hassle getting from one to another.

Thanks so much :laundy: Hopefully there won't be too much to touch up.

The next day was a sea day. We had breakfast at Lumiere's (turned out to be our favourite place for breakfast)

Then we started packing our stuff (I wanted to get most of it out the way early) however things took a turn for the worse when we headed into a storm! It started out a bit choppy and we wandered around a bit, went to the stores. But it soon got worse - at one point standing on deck 4 mid ship, out one window we could see the sea out the other the sky! It was a stuggle to stay upright! We went up in the elevator and there was water pouring down the inside of the doors! It was coming on deck futher up (I think they emptied the pools already).
It got so bad we had to go back to the cabin, we were both feeling a little green but I carried on packing, thankful we'd bought things before we felt bad. I had to give up though as the ship was rocking in four directions and I needed to lay down. Neither of us was sick but this was a force 11 gale we passed though! We had a high tea booked at Palo in the afternoon and thankfully we both felt better! Infact I was quite hungry!
I could have eaten a whole plateful to myself!

I'm afraid I can't remember what we had for dinner that night - I think we may have had room service?
But that is pretty much the end of the photos, I didn't take any on the last day and when we were travelling. It was a shame we lost a sea day to the motion but we probably wouldn't have done much more - maybe an activity but we wanted to take it easy.
We had a great time and Gav has talked about doing another Med cruise (maybe not 2011 but in a few years). It certainly won't be our last cruise!
Thanks everyone for reading :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing your fantastic photos! I'm sorry to hear that you had that motion sickness but at least you got to enjoy Palo and you weren't confined to your room. :goodvibes

awesome pictures!!!
what kind of camera do you have?!!!
also - your meal photos are amazing -- and depict a lot of food. even when you say it was just the 2 of your food, it seemed like a lot. can i ask, what's a typical meal - how many courses?
Spent a lovely evening looking at your report
even more excited about our cruise in June

Many thanks for posting all the photos and details of your Med cruise last year. It's been enormously helpful to me as we prepare for our Med cruise in July. As a first time cruiser, I really have no idea what to expect. Your photos and descriptions, especially on the ship, have been great and have answered many questions I've had, but didn't know where or who to ask.
I wanted to send you a thank you via PM rather than clutter up your great thread with a thank you post, but my post count has to be 10 or more before I am allowed to do so.
Cheers to you both!
