Has anyone ever done the turtle patrol at Vero Beach. Is this mainly for children or is an adult function as well. We will be going down to Vero this summer and we are considering this. Is it worth taking part in??????????

While they allow children to participate, I believe they draw the line at something like 8/9/10 years and older. It is done by lottery in the lobby...everyone puts their room card/key in the hat and then they draw. It begins (the patrol) and ends quite late.

"Turtle Patrol" is just a VB sponsored activity (typically hosted by a park ranger/park staff) to view the Loggerheads (if you're lucky)coming ashore to lay their eggs in the sand. It's done by lottery in the main lobby, usually around 10am and is limited to about 15-20 people, IIRC....only in summer months. We've been drawn once out of several tries. We've gone out on our own a number of times with a small red light (can't use a flashlight for a number of reasons) and have been sucessful as well.

Enjoy, Jose
