So it has long been a question of Disney fan why do they not update COP? Well after FLE the next two areas in WDW to see a major overhaul will be TL and AL.

The one problem that I have seen in all the plans for TL is that COP seems to be missing in the blueprints. That area is simply marked future expansion. So everything I have heard leads me to believe that within the next 5-7 years COP will be gone from TL in WDW.

1. The two leading rumors at this point are that COP will either be moved to DCA as part of the theme change of that park. The new theme of that park will be Walt’s park. The front of the park is being themed to look like LA in the 20's when Walt first arrived, the Sun Wheel has been re-themed to Mickey’s fun wheel, The re-theme to Silly Symphony swings, World of Color. COP would fit this new theme well.

2. The rumor I like better because it keeps COP in WDW. COP will be moved to Epcot and added to either Innoventions or WOL and that pavilion will be changed to a progress theme.

What do you guys think I vote for #2. COP no longer fits the SC-FI theme of TL and this keeps COP in WDW.

Definitely option 2!! A trip to WDW would not be complete for us without seeing COP.

I only had 1 trip to WDW as a kid and COP with my Grandfather is my happiest memory of that trip.

Wherever it is moved I hope that it is treated like the treasure it is.

Also not plans could be changed. Thematically the COP should be moved because TL is no longer about the future but a SC-FI future. They could also just update the last scene but I have seen no evidence of that.

I vote #2 as well. It would work in the WOL pavillion if it were rethemed and freeing up TL for a new ride would be great. It doesn't really fit in TL at all, no matter how often they screw up, I mean, update the last scene.

1. Will never happen, no disrespect, but I don't know how you even came up with this. It highly suggests that you havn't been to DCA and don't know about the changes there. It will have 5 areas. The Main Street will be like 1920 LA. Paradise peir like a turn of the century Pier. A bugs land, a cars land, and Hollywoodland.

2. In DL they got rid of COP and put in an Innoventions. I think Epcot already has an Innoventions.

I'd really like to see the blueprints that you have. Do you have a link?

I've heard of other.....suggestions, not exactly rumors, about it going to:

The Smithsonian

or

The Walt Disney Family Museum

I like both of these choices actually...it really does need to be preserved as a brilliant example of American living in the 20th century.

We are east-coasters and enjoy our WDW trips each year. We ALSO try to visit DL each year because we just love it.

Either would be fine with us. We rarely have a chance to enjoy it because we do not travel during peak times.

I will be nice if they renovate it and bring back some life to the attraction. As old-time Disney fans....we enjoy it!

I've always love COP, but it really no longer belongs in TL. I agree it could fit into Futureworld nicely... or.... how's about Nostalgialand?! I don't want to see it go, but the last scene needs to be changed. It was different originally.

The last time this was discussed many people "in the know" stated that with the condition COP is in it couldn't be disassembled and reassembled, it would just fall apart. That being said the only alternatives are to renovate it or tear it down. I'm betting almost everyone here would hope for the renovation.

Hey! I wouldn't mind seeing it in the Smithsonian... but hey.. I live in the Washington DC area.. I could visit it any time! It could go in the newly renovated American History Museum. They had the set from M*A*S*H there, and Julia Child's kitchen, why not COP! I want it I want it! :yay:

I agree. I don't know if it would be that hard of a change to simply renovate the last act, or make the transitions make more sense. But the ride has to stay. If Disney can bring back Captain EO, starring a highly controversial person in a vastly out-dated ride, surely they can hold on to one of Walt's most endearing legendary concepts.

It's been a few years since I have been to the COP in MK, but if it's anything like the corporate advertising station like Innoventions is in Disneyland, I think it should be scrapped entirely. However, if moving the COP will take over the land previously held by Wonders of Life, I'm all for it.

Actually, Carousel of Progress is directly responsible for my purchasing an antique-styled Crosley radio.

Regardless, COP and Innoventions are distinctly different attractions and experiences and no, COP doesn't advertise anything.

Oh you're right. I think at the Worlds Fair, COP was sponsored by GE. But then again, its all about the progress of technology and GE was a huge part of that in the very beginning.

Wrong. COP influenced me to buy a carousel for my living room. Cost me a fortune, but GE's Living Room Carousel is a top model brand. And it makes getting to the refrigerator so much easier.

Also this it a rumor hence the reason for it being in the N & R section. You don't have to believe it if you don't want to.

While I think it makes sense to move it I never said it was going to happen nor do I think it will happen. Its is just for some fun disscussion people.

There's a time and money component to everything, of course. And for the MK especially, a space component.

Still, if I had a magic wand and none of those concerns to deal with, WDW could use some "rearrangement" involving moving a few things around.

CoP would fit in very nicely at Epcot, especially if it is refurbished and updated to reflect "present day" and maybe even a "future" projection as well (of course, adding a scene would be a nigh-impossible structural change to the attraction, but I'm dreaming anyway, no?), and kept up-to-date on a regular basis. I do like the idea of the WoL pavilion, and the idea of having a "progress" pavilion centered around the attraction. It would tag-team nicely with Spaceship Earth for low-impact looks at technology development.

That would leave an open spot for expansion in Tomorrowland, which can't be a bad thing. ;)

Most of my other desires would be covered by adding a real "Toontown" to DHS, and having it connect to the Pixar Place section (which in turn could use additional attractions). I think it fits thematically, and it would be a nice expansion for DHS, which could really use it.

No the unoffical theme adopted for the park is going to be Walts park. COP was Walt's favorite attraction. Moving it there would be much better fit than a land that is based off of SC-FI like TL. Also there is talk of moving One Mans Dream to be in the Theater (that currently will not have anything and will be a facade) they are building.

COP in no way fits in a SC-Fi themed land but in a park that is going to have Walts influence all over the place it makes perfect sense.

Again Adventureland and Frontierland are more influenced by Walt Disney than Paradise Pier.

The Carthay Theater is now rumored to NOT have The Walt Disney Story. It is planned to hold the Resort Preview Center now.

Further where would you even put COP in DCA? Maybe you are unaware that all the open spaces are being developed. The only unused attractions Don't have enough room to fit COP in the same footprint.

What attraction do you want to start a rumor about them deleting so they can put COP in?

The Giant Sun is the exact spot where the Carthay Theater is going. Behing that is A Bugs Life.

Muholland Madness is being rethemed into Goofy's Sky School.

Check this out and see what is happening in DCA. It's not what I think I heard or a blue print I may of seen. It's right from Disney.

Yes read what I wrote I said it was being rethemed to Goofy, that is out. But lets use our Imagination for a second. The theater is going to be where the Sun is so purhaps COP one day will be there.

Again since you are not reading my posts I have seen blueprints for an expansion in TL aa well as DCA. The area for the theater says right on it Future attraction.

I vote for COP staying at WDW and a re-created version at CA. COP was at DL following the World's Fair, so they are entitled to a version out there. Regardless, I hope they keep Jean Shepard's voice in it. I always think about COP when I watch "A Christmas Story"!
