Continuing a conversation from the previous thread about running in the 5K at CC.... I think I mentioned my "issues" with running in the heat :rotfl: Not a good thing for me. I can do it, but my body rebels!
Temp here today was 90 and off I went on a 5 mile run. I'll usually wait until the temp goes down a bit or treadmill instead.... Same result though - I finished, but oh did I look and feel like [fill in your own colorful adjective here]... :rotfl:
I think I would do better in an area with better air quality (CC for example) - there was an air quality alert here today (gotta love that, eh?!). Perhaps it's that as opposed to the temps/humidity?!

I don't do well in hot weather either and I'm not even running!:rotfl: I don't like really hot weather and I even live near the beach! I don't go that much though!:rotfl2:

Then we'll be leaving in 70 days for the World so very excited staying at Bay Lake Towers 2 bedroom Magic Kingdom view. We almost book a 4 day Wonder cruise this week for the end of our Disney vacation in August, but realized our son would miss his last summer reading class so we didn't book it :( oh well just have to wait for the Dream!! Hi all, thanks for starting a new thread. How exciting that we've been chatty enough to need a second thread! I've been running the treadmill lately, I just don't like the heat or humidity and like Harry said, the air quality around here has been bad too. It is supposed to cool off this weekend so maybe I can get back on the road. I think if we run/walk the CC 5K it should be ok even with the August heat. I just booked a 7 day cruise for NYE on the Wonder they have Cat 12's really cheap, almost half price! Now I just need to find a summer job to pay for it, since I'm just a substitute teacher I don't get paid through the summer. Any good ideas for summer jobs? I feel like a teenager again!

I was reading that summer jobs are tougher to come by for teenagers this year because they are competing with those just looking for ANY job...
Congrats on the good deal you got! Sounds exciting!

Oh my...I just found our 2nd thread! I really need to get a subscription going again so that I can keep up. I really am sorry that I have been MIA this spring but life has just been really crazy! I am totally looking forward to finishing school up next week and then I promise to pay close attention to things and am going to dedicate several days to updating our website! :thumbsup2
Eric - I will send you a PM. You can then send me an e-mail with the information I need and we will get you connected! Welcome aboard!
Jude - Thanks for all the running support...on all the threads! :rotfl2: It is getting closer to tomorrow and I am starting to feel a bit more nervous. I feel like I should really do some stress eating but instead, I am off to Emily & Ben's dress rehearsal.
Castaway Cay 5K - I should get a list going of people who are planning on doing this. I know we are going to CC 2 times, so it will be interesting to see who is planning on running it and what day (or both?). DH and I are planning on running it at least once. The kids might want to give it a try as well...we will have to see. Last time it took me FOREVER to finish it but I am hoping to finish with a more respectable time next summer.
Have a great night and I promise I will be much more active after next Friday!

Hey Jen, how did the race go? Was the weather ok for that long of a run?
The race was really good! :thumbsup2 Here is a bit of the summary I posted on the WISH thread of the DIS...
We got to the race about 6:15 AM and I was stunned by all the runners (even though I knew it would be huge, I was still surprised). I was even more surprised when I saw that our area to line up was about 2 blocks back from the start line (this was based on the pace we were aiming for). The weather really was cooperating with us as it was a perfect temperature. There were points where it was really sunny and hot and other times where the skies were a bit cloudy and a slight breeze would come (loved this part). DH and I felt really good this morning and the first miles passed pretty quickly. We had planned on walking at mile 4...but didn't. We walked for a couple of moments to get drinks at mile 5 and then ran right away again. We planned on walking at mile 8...but didn't. Again, we walked for a minute or two to drink and have some jelly beans. At about mile 11 we caught up with Corinna (from the WISH / Team Ohana) and again, walked as we had drinks. Then we ran again. The end of the race is almost all uphill. There was one really steep hill where we power walked up part of it as our running was as slow as walking! I was so excited to see the flag for mile 13 and crossing the finish line was AMAZING!
Our time: 2 hours, 22 minutes and 30 seconds!
Our goal: 2 hours, 45 minutes (or more...we just were hoping for under 3 hours)
I am so proud of DH and totally proud of myself. I can't believe that we completed the race in such a great time!
On the way home, we were talking about registering for our next 1/2 marathon...we must be insane!
Alright, time to focus on completing my student report cards, but I just wanted to share how happy I was. Here is one of the photos:

Hey all!
We are still around, although quite busy with the the end of school and activities!
I can't believe we are almost to the one year mark. Even that seems so far away, but I guess it will be here soon enough. Our daughter turned 8 this past week and still doesn't know about the cruise. I can't decide whether to tell her about it early, wait until her 9th birthday as a special present, or just pack up and go and leave her guessing. :)
I would still like to run the Castaway Cay 5K, but I am still treadmilling it and haven't done much running outside. I have been running the 5K on my treadmill three or four times a week, but I have a million excuses (heat, being scared) to not run outside. I won't ever run a 5K race until I do! If I do run it, I will be running at the first stop, so that I won't feel guilty having a drink or two the rest of the trip! :)
Hope everyone is doing well!

Good morning all, it's so weird that we're only on page three now. I keep trying to hit the last page button and there isn't one! It is definately the end of the school year, all the kids are going wild at my school and the class picnics have begun. Nothing like hypeing up 100 or so kids at a time and then making them go back to class! 7 more days left and my son still has a field trip, picnic, and field day. You know they won't be learning much more this year.

He's only in 3rd grade so I don't think they really have "finals" they just test throughout the year. My daughter just finished her last test today, she's in middle school so they do have tests. The rest of this week is cake for her too, field day one day and then a diabetes walk the next. Next week they only have half days so they don't really do much but clean out their desks/lockers, ect.

Last day is next Friday (June 18). Tim is swimming all summer.... Jake is involved in some summer soccer activities, plus he is attending a NASA science camp....so we'll be spending a lot of time in the pool or at local beaches this summer. One of Tim's meet's is out near Lancaster, PA so we'll be hitting Hershey Park for a few days.... It will be busy summer, but sadly no Disney visits. How 'bout you guys?

Sounds, like the boys will keep you busy this summer....
Disney for us for ten days then Vero Beach for seven days. Then the girls may go to gymnastics camp for a few days this summer. They are also taking private swim lessons in our pool with a couple of their friends. They did it last summer too and it was GREAT!! Hanna, will also continue with horseback riding lessons this summer. But other than that I want to relax and enjoy the pool!!!

Morning Terri -
Last time we cruised, I made ones similar to those (names on them and they said...YOU CAN DO IT) and put them on the doors of everyone who said they were going to run the 5K.
I still want to make our group something for running - I will probably figure out something with our cruise name and graphic.
I hope that we get a good group for running. :thumbsup2

Hello Everyone!
Well, the school year is over and my classroom is all packed and in my basement again. I am officially unemployed again this summer and hope that I can find some sort of job before the start of the school year. Teaching jobs in Minnesota are not so easy to find and this just might be the final push DH and I need to make the big move to FL!
Now that I am done, I am planning on fixing up the website (it all seems so out of date) and being on here a lot more so that we can get our thread moving again! It is amazing to me that it will not be long before we are under the 1 year mark!!!! 428 days to go from today!!!!
The kids have 2 dance recitals today so we will be gone most of the day. I am fine with being inside all day as it looks very cloudy right now and not that nice outside.
Happy Sunday everyone!

It is kind of a bittersweet feeling about the school year. I am not looking back though...just forward. I need to get going on a few applications today as well so that there might be something to look forward to - otherwise I could be working at McDonald's! :rotfl2:
Thanks! I love dance recitals. The kids dance in competitions but those are so serious. The dance recital is where they really dance just for fun and the love of dance since there are no judges sitting in the front row.
I have to go buy flowers this morning because Ben makes mini bouquets for all the girls in his dance group each year.

Thank you, things only got worse on Friday. Which, in turn did not make our anniversary the best... But Bruce did send me roses at school to make it better. I will be happy when it is over that is for sure. I have lost a lot of respect for some people through all of this.
We ended up going out to dinner just the two of us and did some errands. Then I went shopping at Ann Taylor so that made up for the events that took place earlier in the day.
Thanks, for asking!!

How many days until Disney and Vero Beach?
I want to learn more about Vero Beach - where would you recommend I look for photos, actual daily plans, etc?
We were thinking of possibly looking at it for next summer. We were thinking 4 days at WDW (maybe 5), 4 days at a beach (maybe Vero Beach) and then the cruise.

I've been pretty quiet lately. Things at work have been crazy - in fact, my part time job has imploded and I've been pretty much working two full time jobs the past few weeks. Both have been a "little" stressful so I am taking the entire weekend off for family!! DD and I went shopping and played any board games she wanted yesterday (rainy day here) and today is a "hang out" day with the family. I think I really need this!!
Have a great weekend everyone!!

My "unemployment" doesn't start till next Thursday or sooner if they don't need me. I wish I could find a full time para position but those are far and few between. Plus I wouldn't be able to keep on cruising throughout the year if I was full time so I guess I'll just look at it as a gift that I can't seem to get one of those positions. Still the money over the summer would be nice.

I wish my "unemployment" was just a temp. summer deal but unfortunately...I do not have a position to go back to this fall at this point. I told my school this year that I would not be coming back. It was a private school that paid so poorly that I could actually make more money being a substitute teacher. I will be hunting for a job all summer.

I did not know if there was any discussion on T-shirts for the Disbord Group? We have done that on our last several cruises and it worked out GREAT... We have done Lime Green and last time blue... It was great way to see all of our Disboard Friends..

Glad you like the web site Wendy...I really enjoy doing it and am happy that I will have some time to dedicate to really making it grow this summer. :thumbsup2
On our last cruise, we did lanyards that were imprinted with our cruise name and those were really great because people wore them all the time. I am open to other ideas as well and will put a page on the website to see what people are interested in.
Hey all you Tortola Treasure Seekers....anyone remember what the final cost of the lanyards were? I thought the price was really reasonable. I also can't remember when we had to order them by but I know we had plenty of time.
Today was my first day of summer break and it seems like I really did not get a lot done. I actually laid in bed for a bit this morning and tomorrow I am going to have to get up and get going so that I can be a bit more productive.

Jen, I'm sorry to hear that you are now unemployed! I can't believe that you would make more money subbing then you did at your school! I always thought pivate schools paid good! Good luck in your search.:)
I think that our lanyards were $2-$3, they were pretty cheap. That was a good idea. T-shirts are a good idea too, of course I don't know if my guys would be too excited about t-shirts....they did wear my tie dyes for embarkation though!:rotfl2::rotfl:

Nope...not lime green! I tried to find lime green but I couldn't get them for any cheap price.
I designed them, people approved them and then I ordered them all. I paid for it and most people sent me the money. Some people paid me at the port though. I passed most of them out while we were waiting to board.
They were black and the writing was white - they had the name of our cruise on them, the name of the ship and a couple of Mickey heads.
I love matching drink things too but most people drink out of mugs.

I was reading some stuff about recent 5 night cruises and I have to say as much as I am looking forward to this cruise...there are things I am going to miss.
Our family LOVED formal night and when I look at the navigator that was posted, the closest I see is "Dress Up" as evening attire (day at sea). Then when I go to the navigator for that night, it says "OPTIONAL DRESS UP". This makes it sound like it is a barely a semi formal evening. :sad2: DD and I are sad because there are so few occasions where we can get all dressed up and it was one of our most favorite things on the last cruise.
Also, someone was posting that there is NO lobster on the 5 night. Again, this was a special menu deal on formal night. When I look on the navigator for the optional dress up night, there are no special menus listed. It looks like it is just a normal menu. I really think for the price of the cruise, they could do one special night with lobster or some special dishes.
I am going to LOVE another double dip and other great things about a new ship, but I am going to be wishing it was a 7 night cruise in so many ways.

Jen, I know what you are talking about. Five nights, especially when you travel across the country is just not long enough.
Every cruise that we have went on from 3-7 nights has not been long enough. We haven't wanted to get off on any of them. That's one of the reasons Candy and I have planned the 15 night Wonder repo in January. 15 nights may take care of our cruise fix.

I will have to find our lanyards, take a picture and post it so you all can see what they looked like. I really did like them.
So far I have not been doing a whole lot with my summer vacation. I did finish a job application this morning (I hate all the essay questions on teacher applications). I also ran resumes and such to 2 schools that may be hiring long terms subs for the start of the year.

Wow! I was just thinking it had been awhile since I checked in here, and had to go track down the new thread! No wonder!
I'm pretty focused on the WBTA we're doing this September, then will turn my attention to this cruise. But I still check prices daily waiting for 9A to come available again so I can move my onboard booking. Though I've seen a 9B room available the past few evenings and the price is higher than we originally booked at, so the onboard booking may not help us very much afterall.
Take care!

A 15 nighter is our dream!!! But that might be a couples cruise - maybe in the far, far future!! LOL.
I'm a little bummed that there is no formal night on the 5 day. Jen and her family looked so awesome on our 7 night cruise - I wish we had been as dressed up!!
We still have 1 more week of school left. Kevin has a few regents exams left at the high school and Tess has her 5th grade "moving up" ceremony next week. Who the heck schedules something like that at 9:30AM?? I can take the time off but I suspect many parents might not. :confused3
Next Thursday is the last day of school and it's a half day. Tess has had an annual "end of the year pool party" since 2d grade, with all the girls form her particular class invited. Well, this year she decided that because several of her good friends are spread out over the 3 5th grades, she's invite EVERY GIRL IN THE 5TH GRADE. Yup, I'm hosting 36 girls on Thursday from 11:30AM - 4PM. :scared1::scared1::scared1: I am praying that it doesn't rain!! (can you imagine 36 girls running rampant through a house? OMG...) And, on that note, I am trying to plan for some games. Maybe a scavenger hunt, hula hoop contests etc. If anyone has any fun ideas (as well as fun ideas for prizes) please let me know!!
As for the lanyards, I'm still using mine from our last cruise for my work ID!! It cheers me up some mornings to look down and see Mickey around my neck!! :goodvibes
Tonight is opening night at our local pro farm baseball team - and it's fireworks night. Go ValleyCats!!:cool1:

Never know things may change (fingers crossed) but we did book the MR cruise in March. Well I have enough points for a week in a studio ocean view in any season, too bad you'll never be able to get a room at the 7 month window LOL. I don't have enough for a week in a 1 bedroom in any season though. The taxes is interesting, let me know if you see a thread on that, I haven't had time to check the DVC boards lately.

That said, if someone would please supply us with the website info, it would be appreciated. We are DH Chuck, DW Lisa and DS Mason (11) at time of cruise.

Hey everyone! I did a bit of work on our website this week and finally got it all uploaded.
First, we have new people who I have listed and this means a few more families for our FE as well! :thumbsup2
Then, I added a page for lanyards. If people are interested...let me know. Right now we are just making a list and you will have until May to change your mind or order. :)
I also added a page for people to share any plans that you want to share. As I put on the site...share as much or as little as you want. I just know that I loved being able to arrange some things with DIS friends last time and thought I would put it on again for this cruise. :grouphug:
Finally, I updated my blog. It was a long time since I put stuff on the blog but now that we are getting to the 1-year point, I will be updating on a more regular basis.:upsidedow
I have so much more time to dedicate to the website now so if you want me to add something or update something...let me know! I am always open to ideas. :goodvibes

It's been a while since I've posted (I think page 1 of Part 1) but many of you know me from our Tortola cruise last year and also...Turkey Day 2005. I've been lurking, but decided to come out of hiding now.
Jen, please put our family down for FE. I wasn't going to do it this time around seeing the list is HUGE, but the kids have already started bugging me about it so we'll go for it. I've got an idea I can start working on now.
Kristen, I know you're in Florida, but it is HOT here in CT today. A lot of our friends are down there now too, we're jealous!
I've started my new magnet collection so thanks for the recent ones posted. We're traveling with 5 families between 8 cabins, some family and some friends. I've been put in charge of keeping everyone updated with what's going on.
Enjoying catching up with you all!
Gina
Hey Gina!
I am glad that you came out of your "lurking" status! :goodvibes It is exciting that you will be back on the ship with us again! :woohoo: You will have to convince all the other families you are sailing with to join in on the chatting so we get to know them as well!
Yep, FE list is HUGE but we are planning on splitting it up as we get a bit closer. I have already been working on my gifts! :thumbsup2 My kids would never let me skip it either because they love coming back and finding all the goodies. I will add you to the list!
I am so impressed with those of you who are thinking of your door magnets already. I might have to start thinking about those as well. Right now all our door magnets decorate the door from the garage to the house so that every time we come home we get to see them all.
Chat with you again soon!

I would LOVE it! :lovestruc I so need some heat...please send it my way. Today was so cool that I wore a sweatshirt. Sounds like we will hit 80° for the 4th of July. Some people might like that but I would like the over 100° heat index!!!
Jen, are you living in the same state as I am still???:rotfl2: We had heat index of 100 just last week, it was nasty hot and humid all week. And all the channels I am watching are saying upper 80's to 90 all weekend this weekend.

The 100 heat index was only one day...I need several days of FAR over 100! It was humid last week but not all that hot. Are you sure you live in MN? :rotfl2:
Cabin temperature for the weekends is just low 80s...I need high 90s or 100s!!!!

Hey all! I hope everyone is doing well. School finally ended for us last week, so this is our first full week of summer. I think my daughter is already ready for camps to start. We have to help her memorize her multiplication tables over the summer and she isn't appreciating the school work in summer. :)
So can I get a short description on how the FE gifts are done now? Our last cruise was in 2005 and back then we just brought one bag for each family with whatever in it. Now I am reading on the boards about special gifts for adults and kids? How does that work? We are game for whatever, I just want to know what is expected of me. :)
Since we are planning to surprise our kids with the trip as of now, we haven't really done much with the trip. Can't book anything else right now, so I kind of feel like I am in cruise planning limbo!

I am so glad that school is out for you! Now you can enjoy a bit of summer with DD.
If you want information about the FE, there are some great links on our website (or feel free to search here on the DIS). There is no right or wrong way for gifts...if you sign up and do gifts, you will be fine. I know that some people do gifts for kids and then gifts for adults. I also know that some people do whole family gifts. I would really read some of the current threads about FE and get some ideas. I have not finalized my gifts yet but have actually started them.
I think a lot of us feel like we are in limbo in terms of planning. It will be nice when Disney releases more information about the ship and our cruise...it will allow us to dream about our plans a bit more.
Hope everyone is having a great night!

I think tomorrow is going to be cooler, but then back up again by end of the week. We had another storm blow through yesterday. Everyone is still on edge around here after Thursday's tornado. I still can't believe one touched down so close to us. Without power I had no idea of the damage until the next day's newspaper.

Hi Everyone -
We will be joining you ... most likely. We are booked on this cruise. Booked it on our last cruise, the Memorial Day 2010 Double Dip on the Wonder. However there is a possibility we will push it out. We're fans of longer cruises (at least 7 nights) but we loved the Double Dip we were just on and are anxious to check out the Dream.
For now I would love to join in the fun. Wow - second thread! That's great. It's more fun with an active group.
This will be out 4th cruise on Disney. We live in MA - in between Boston and Providence RI. We are: me (Christine), dh (Tim), dd (Emily - 9), ds (Joey - 5).
Looking forward to getting to know everyone! Happy 4th!!

Welcome! If you don't mind me asking, is your daughter nine now, or will she be nine when you cruise? I only ask because my girl just turned 8, and there don't seem to be many kids her age so far! I was just curious!
I totally know what you mean about the short cruises. We did a three day for our honeymoon, and have done 4 seven day cruises since. We prefer the longer trips as well, but we really wanted to check out the Dream and this was as long as we could get! We aren't too thrilled about the stop at Nassau, but two stops at Castaway Cay sounds fun!
Anyway, welcome again!

Weather, has been HOT and SUNNY!! A little rain last night when we went to bed. This afternoon it began to rain around dinner time and it is still a light rain right now. But other than that HOT and SUNNY!! I hope the weather is this good when we arrive @ VB!!

SSR, is having a good old fashioned 4th of July Party with pie-eating contests, decorate your own 4th of July cupcake, pool-party, cake walk contest, crafts for the kids, and then there are fire-works at DownTown that night!! Well we are headed for Disney Vero for the weekend...
Best place to see fireworks in Disney, arguably, is just to the Grand Floridian side of the Polynesian...if you position yourself correctly near the edge of the lake, you have a clear view of fireworks in stereo...literally...you can see both the Magic Kingdom and lake fireworks, which are synchronized, at the same time...we did this a few years ago and it was amazing....

Last year ("due to the economy") they didn't have the usual fireworks at DTD. We did fireworks on July 3 @ MK (they run their July 4th show on both nights). We had seats for the Dessert Party so it was perfect - no crowds, great view, etc.

This year we stayed close to home for the 4th. After a day by the pool we had tickets to a local minor league baseball game. We were in a reserved section with some decent food (picnic variety) all included so it was nice. After the game we were permitted to go out on to the field, spread a blanket, and watch the fireworks - which were decent (many towns near us canceled fireworks this year). After the show of course my kids pointed out that the fireworks we saw at the MK last year were "better" <LOL> No duh!
The heat is blasting us here! Today - 102 degrees perhaps?! I could not run this morning because it was already over 90 degrees by 9AM.
Short work week :cool1:

Rescuing us from hitting page 3!
Back to work today.... just stepped out to get some lunch.... I really can't describe what it felt like to walk out into the heat we are experiencing... It topped out at 104 yesterday (after a 100 on Monday) and is 100 here currently. :sunny: Hopefully relief is coming - especially for those most vunerable in this wind of weather.

Sounds like the east coast is getting hit with heat...please send it to the mid-west! My DH would like to tell you that it is hot here but it is just warm. The temps are in the mid to high 80s and it is humid...but it is not hot.
Just have to share...Jude (jbm02) and I signed up for the 2011 Disney Princess Half Marathon yesterday! :cool1: Totally excited as it allows me to plan for a WDW trip while waiting for our cruise. It is going to be such a fun trip and we are hoping that Kristin can come with and cheer us on (I will get her an honorary princess outfit that matches mine)! :goodvibes
As for the cruise...DD was very excited about the spa for teens (or excited as a teen gets). I have a feeling some of her hard earned allowance will be spent on some sort of treatment there. She loves being pampered and all the fine things in life! :rotfl2:
Hope everyone is staying cool! :cool2:

Erika - I will tell you...there has to be something wrong with my internal thermostat! :rotfl2:
Yep, Saturday was hot but the rest of the days have not been. I think we reached 90° up north. You have to admit though, this week has not been hot...just warm.
I think I just need a good old stretch of 90-100° days and then I will feel better and enjoy the 80s.

Now, I never claimed the other days were hot, just Saturday LOL. The rest have just been humid and sticky, yuck! Hot and dry would be nice. This muggy stuff is gross. We are heading to Duluth Saturday, not usually hot there, but I'm cool with that!

Are you guys doing anything special?

OK! Enough of the 100 degree weather. Jen, I would send it to you if I could. i drove past a sign yesterday and the temperature read 102 and today it read 103. However, the humidity makes it unbearable.
For those in this heat wave, stay safe and cool.

I just booked an unplanned trip to WDW in 3 weeks! This is the quickest we've planned a trip (not like our veteran Jen who did one in April and was on the road in 3 hours!) Kids don't know yet, but we had a week banked in our timeshare that was going to expire so I couldn't let it go to waste :thumbsup2
What do you think my chances are at getting any table service meals at this point? I haven't even looked at a calendar yet to see when Early Entry/Late Opening days are yet to come up with some plan.
We're back up to 100 here in CT, weather is supposed to break tomorrow and go to a more comfortable 80's through the weekend. Jim and Daniel are camping with Boy Scouts so that is good news for them since they are hiking into their campsite (all uphill of course!).

Have fun! You might luck out with some ADR's. If you can't get any online, try calling I hear that some times they get last miniute cancellations that don't show up online!
Stay cool everyone! It was nice for the 4th, but the temps are back up in the 90's.

:cool1: Have a great trip! As for the table service meals...be creative and possibly be open to trying new places. I also know that when we took our last minute trip, we could have gotten some reservations and that was spring break. We checked online but in the end did not make any because we wanted to save money. I think you should also call Disney dining when you get there and check each morning with Guest Services in the park for any unexpected openings. You will have to let us know what you end up getting!
To all my east coast cruising friends...stay cool!
Time to go run....

Good morning everyone!!!
...for all of you veteran DCLers out there...I am trying to convince my parents to join my sis and her family on their Dream cruise in April 2010 (the timing does not work for them to join us on ours..and it just might result in my DH jumping overboard!!! :lmao:) Anyway, they think that it will be too "kiddish", even though they have APs, own DVC and love Disney. Any ides for arguments to convince them?? My sis lives in Nevada (my parents are in NY and FL) and have DD06 and DS 08....

Something I did last time was just go to the place you want to eat just as they're opening (dinner is usually around 4) and ask, they usually can squeeze you in. It is a wait sometimes but other times it's only a couple of minutes. We have done this for O'Hannas, sci-fi, and even the Garden Grill. Just call and see what time they open and go about 10-15 min. before to see if they have any openings. Another thing is if they have a reservation open but it's not at the time you want (too late), take it and then go earlier when you want to eat and see if they have any openings, they will take you before any walk ups because you have a reservation. Good Luck!

Not really. We leave the kids home and drive the convertible up there, and go to Two Harbors and just stop anywhere along the way that strikes our fancy. Two Harbors has their summer festival this weekend with a HUGE parade and a car show and craft show. We stumbled upon it years ago, and have gone several times since. It's fun.
Then we'll just hang out in canal park for the evening and people/boat watch. Maybe go for a malt at the Portland Malt Shoppe!

Wrench thrown into last minute trip to WDW...DH just realized that all but one of his whole staff is on vacation that week and he has a new hire starting that Monday  He may need to fly down Monday night (we're leaving Saturday) but that's going to throw a wrench in my planning so he doesn't miss anything too fun (plus I'm trying to keep all our park passes equal so they don't run out at different points)...
I did see some openings for some of the restaurants we were interested in. The kids like Whispering Canyon and I thought maybe we'd try Coral Reef, haven't been there in years (pre-kids). Thanks for the advice on getting dining reservations this close. I'll keep you posted on how we make out.

Back from mini-trip to the Hershey area... Tim had a swim meet near Lancaster this past weekend.... very hot, very humid... yuck!
Stayed at the Eden Resort in Lancaster, which for that area is about as nice as it gets. Our day at Hershey Park was ruined by un-forecasted rain & thunderstorms!! We did a bunch of rides in the morning and by 2-ish we were getting hot and cranky. Got changed & headed for the waterpark. In line for our first attraction and they closed the whole waterpark down. Sun was still partially out, but they said bad weather was coming??!! It came - about 75 minutes later! I guess they err on the side of caution, but I thought they closed it down a tad early. The rain was a torrential downpour though. Not like Disney where you throw on the poncho and keep going - everything was closed at Hershey Park. The did, however, provide rain checks good for another visit within 30 days so we are headed back in a couple of weeks.
Today's forecast was for nasty weather so we spent the morning in the pool, had a nice lunch, and drove back before rush hour.

I ended up taking the kids back to school shopping (school supplies). Driving down our street today I noticed everyone has brown grass so the rain is welcomed.
Made a few PS ressies for our upcoming trip. O'hanas for breakfast (first time, usually do dinner), Plaza Restaurant, House of Blues and Garden Grove at Swan (HOB and GG are on Restaurant.com) and Whispering Canyon. Kids want to try T-Rex one day. We'll wing the rest.
Just booked a car rental a few minutes ago. Prices were crazy (over $400 with taxes) but used a BJs coupon and got a full size for under $200 :cool1:
Oriental Trading is having a clearance sale and there's some FE possibilities if you want to check it out.

A little too much rain! I thought it was over last night and embarked on a run. About 2 miles into I see the nastiest looking cloud in front of me! :scared1:
I turned around (mind you I live in farmland - there is nothing around for shelter, etc) and start running at like a race pace!! :rotfl: Thankfully it was not another thunderstorm, but the rain came up behind me and it was like getting dumped on by one of those huge water buckets @ a water park! I was wet in places I really didn't want to be wet in either
But I am really excited that we're finally going to have some nice, steamy, muggy, hot, rainy, sweaty, smelly weather this weekend. Because that's my favorite and we haven't had any yet. <insert blank stare here>.... :lmao:

Hi all, I'm back from the lake and ready for some computer time! I was unfortunate enough to get run into the dock while I was tubing so my leg is swolen and I have to rest it so I'll have plenty of time on here.
Randy and Candy, you'll be happy to know that I think I've found confirmation that you'll get to see the trifecta of ships on the 7th of Jan. I was looking at Cruise TT and it has the Magic and the Wonder as docked at CC on the 7th. Now I'm wondering if I should change my ressies from the Wonder NYE cruise to the double dip on the Magic?
