My wife found this post (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2479637)on the cruise line board that links to th full story. (http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=3906)
A camera took a 6 month journey and was found in a waterproof housing washed ashore in Key West. The latest pictures and videos were dated November 11, 2009. The person who found the camera knew the pictures were not from the Keys, so he took on a little project to track down the owners.

There was a video dated January 2010 featuring a sea turtle that must have found it and somehow turned it on. There is a youtube video of the sea turtle playing with it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E43sg-Ytt58).

Neat story but that turtle needs a lesson in minimum focus distance.

The turtle video is not much to watch I agree, but it is quite cool none the less.

It may be a start of a new carreer for it, hey it turned it on! That says a lot for any aspiring director, I think it just needs a better script...

I am impressed there was that much battery life left.

What a wonderful story. A nice reminder that the majority of people are decent, and will go out of their way to be helpful.

Also a reminder to label your gear if at all possible to make it easier for those nice folks to give you a call.
I just printed out a label for my son's camera and need to label the rest of them. Just a small label on the bottom with a small name and cell phone number.

I have my cell number on small labels on my memory cards. Years ago before you could upload from home I stopped at a grocery store after ordering prints from my memory card at Sam's Club. The card fell out of my pocket at the cash register. Thankfully I had my cell phone number on the card and received a call just as I was leaving the parking lot.
Depending on your camera you can enter a comment/copyright info that is attached to each image. This is another place you can add come contact info, just remember this will be attached to all your photos. So, be careful if you put your cell number in this field and post them online.

If I found a camera I wouldn't think to take out the memory card to look. In your situation, with losing just the memory card, that would work, but I lost my camera at the Smithsonian about 2 weeks ago on vacation (actually I lost my SON'S camera!)
Thankfully, after about 2 hours, it was turned in, but I realize that if I had labeled it, or at least had a card in the camera case, someone could have called my cell.
