We are doing FE on the February 20th cruise, but I don't think we plan on doing it this cruise, if more people join this cruise meet thread and want to do one it's a lot of fun, so you should do it. I'm from NJ and I'm a Yankees fan so could have been my trip report lol. We usually stay at disney world for a night or two, but this time we will stay near port

Hi Alll! We'll be joining you on this trip! My DH and I (with our DD, age 4) will be cruising with my parents and my brother and sister-in-law. We have three cabins in a row, so I'm excited!!

THis will be our 3rd Disney cruise and I can't wait--even though it's 8 loooong months away!

I love doing Fish Extenders and hope that we can get an FE group going! I'd be happy to coordinate if no one else wants to do that! :)

Looking forward to our trip!

DM MARLA I thought that was you in the NY shirt. Youve had some good tr's. How do the FE work usually do you make or buy your gifts for each individual person?
Marla do you recomend any excursions at CC or Nassau?

Send me a PM if you need a suggestion on where to get an FE (unless you are crafty and plan to make one yourself!)

Thanks for the warm welcome--hopefully we'll have some new cruisers coming along soon! :wizard:

Yup me in the NY shirt, thanks for the comment on my TR's I try to make them good, pictures makes anything good lol.

FE can work different ways. Some people do one gift per stateroom, some people do small different gifts in a goody bag like tattoos and candy and a pen, lots of things you can do, some people have a gift for all the kids and a gift for adults.

excursions, can't think of any I have never done any at Castaway, just not my cup of tea there I want to spend my time at the beach on Castaway. in Nassau, we did a excursion that went to the dig in Atlantis on one trip, but other then that we didn't do much else. I plan on staying on ship on this trip, since I am going on the Dream for the ship:goodvibes

Marla will this be your first time on the Dream?
If you dont mind me asking how old are you? If you are uncomfortable with that question I understand. you dont have to answer. I have a 15 year old son (will be 16) and I was wondering what is your favorite thing to do while cruising? Hes shy and I dont see him going to the teen club. but he will prop. want to do the game show thing.

Yess, it will be my first time on the Dream. My dad and I will be going to see it sail out on one of it's first sails a few weeks before when we are in orlando for work, so excited about the Dream can't wait to see the ship hopefully just as great as Magic and Wonder. I don't mind you asking how old I am, I'm 22 years old. My favorite thing is talking and getting to know the cruise staff and other great and people that go to the college club and meeting everyone and going to the night club at night. I was shy when I was your sons age, still am kind of shy, but deff grew out of that when I go on cruises. Hopefully we will get to meet:cool1:

nope don't think I have ever been to Cabage beach, only went to Atlantis Aquarium in 2007 that I know and, back in 2002 on my first cruise we went to a beach near Atlantis don't know the name of it. I grew out of being shy since after my 3rd cruise the cruise staff started remembering me by name if I saw them. I'd suggest you son check out the teen club the first night on the cruise, great way yo meet people.

Hi there! I just realized that this thread was started. We are doing this cruise as the first leg of our B2B. Hi Marla!

This will be our first DCL experience, have previously cruised on RC, but never with the kids, so it will be a first for them. They are both girls, age 7 and almost 5, when we cruise.

Look forward to chatting.

Hi, everyone! There will be 17 of us joining you. My family and a few friends starting sailing Disney together a couple of years ago, and we decided it would be fun to sail together on the Dream when we were sailing last Thanksgiving. We are so excited to sail on the Dream!:cool1:

In my immediate family, there is me (Susan), DH Brian, DD Brianna (15), and DS Brandon (12). This will be our sixth Disney cruise. We've traveled lots of places, but our kids almost always want to come back for a DCL cruise over everywhere they've been! We'll be sailing with Disney to Alaska next summer, so we're also really excited about that!

Glad to see there is finally a cruise thread started for this cruise. I was beginning to think that my family and friends were going to be the only ones on board. :goodvibes

People from Dis meet board often meet sometime in the afternoon after boarding, usually it has been in the Promenade Lounge where there are seats, drinks and less chaos. I guess after the first few cruises we'll hear of the best places for a meet on the Dream.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I guess adding our 17 to the cruise increased our number of people significantly. :goodvibes Last time, we had 32 people, so it's actually a much smaller group this time. We will be traveling with two of my sisters and their kids as well as my mom. We'll also have a few friends with their kids as well. It will be the first DCL cruise for one of the families, so they are really looking forward to it! Our kids range in age from six to fifteen. We'll have three six year olds, a seven year old, two twelve year olds, and one fifteen year old. Can't wait to hear from others who are on this cruise. We are going to WDW in a few weeks, but I never get as excited about visiting the parks as I do when we're going on a cruise. Bring on February!:cool1:

By list do you mean of people doing the FE? If that's what you mean I would start now. I won't be doing to FE for this cruise, since I'll be doing on the 4 day cruise after it and that would be just too much stuff having to get and although it's fun I don't want to have to worry about doing anything on the 3 day besides a dismeet and getting to know the ship:cool1::thumbsup2

well since this will be my first time on the Dream my to do list/must do list is to get to know the ship(helps since I'm doing a back-2-back)

no secrets really, but I'll share this info get to know the cruise staff on the ship, they are a great group of people I know a lot of them who have worked or are working for DCL, talking with them in the past have made my cruises even better. And by cruise staff I mean the ones who are usually running the activities on the ship.

I'd have to add- Go to the shows, the sail away and pirate parties, read the Navigators to see what you might want to do (and don't worry about doing everything, there is to much), relax and have fun(the fun part is the easiest).

Looks like we are going to be on this cruise, we are moving a lot of things around right trying to figure out how to get on a boat again as soon as we can! We have sailed Disney once before and now we are itching to do another one. We did the 4 day last time and really wanted to do a 7 this time, but hey 3 is better then nothing!!! WE would LOVE to do the FE stuff if there is anyone else interested. Forgive me I have not read through all the threads yet but I will. If you are intersted please let me know!! It was so much fun, and even though it's only a 3 day, it's something my kids loved!!! Can't wait to get to know everyone!!

The 4 Points Sheraton in Cocoa Beach is about 5 miles from the terminal on A1A, the web site says they have limited shuttles but does not say to where.

We are staying there using Star Points, with a rental it is pretty easy to drop luggage and passengers off at the port, return the car and shuttle back in 30 to 45 minutes.

I have to find the name of the hotel we stayed at last time, it was perfect, the shuttle was fast and friendly and the breakfast was AMAZING. We just switched to this cruise so I have to get everything figured out still but once I know the name I will let you know!!!

ps just a tip I picked up last time, if you are gonig to use a shuttle to the port, call ahead and reserve your time if you want to be on one of the first ones. I was able to do it a few months out!!

So it seems after doing some research we are going to stay at the Country Inn and Suites. We stayed at the Radisson last time and loved it but it seems to have a lot of issues with the shuttle :-( Everyone is saying the Country Inn and Suites has a great shuttle, is only 1/2 mile from the port so you can see the boats from the hotel and breakfast is a HOT buffet!!

Can't wait to see and meet everyone :-)

Country Inn & Suites is defiitely our choice! We stayed there on our recent cruise. Even though we live west of Orlando, we decided to extend our vacation by a day and stay near the port. The hotel was great, staff amazing, very good breakfast, incredible shuttle...all in all, GREAT!

I'm hoping to be on this cruise in Feb!

We just got our airfare and car rental booked for our cruise! I went to book a Disney resort for the day we get off of the cruise and just about passed out! A value resort is $173, and a moderate is over $250! I guess it's because it's President's Day weekend? I'm a little nervous about how crowded the parks will be after the cruise! Anyone here gone during President's Day weekend before? Hope all is well----our cruise is getting closer!

Have you ever rented points from DVC members? I have done it many times, and often times you can get rooms for less $$$ then renting from Disney, and in higher level resorts! Just a thought. We are staying in AKL for less then $150 a night!

Can you tell me how to go about checking in to renting points? I've heard of doing it, but I've never checked in to it because I wasn't sure where to go on the internet or where to call to do it. Sounds like a great deal! I did notice that the price of the resorts is about normal until you reach Feb. 17th. From that date on, it's absurd! We are staying at the Radisson at the Port the night before the cruise, but we are planning to do WDW after the cruise, so we'd like to get something onsite. Thanks for your help!

If you check the Disney Vacation Club section of the Disboards there is a rent/trade thread where you can rent from individual owners, here prices per point vary. You can also check to see what properties are available.

There is also David's Vacation Club Rentals, this web site is good for gathering info about the amount of points you need for any time period and you can rent properties at $13.00 per point.

I've heard of people listing them on ebay and Craigslist but I guess I'm not that trusting to try this avenue.

I rented points for a few days this January from one of our tablemates on our last cruise, OKW for about $140.00 per night.

Disboards have a place where you can rent the points from DVC members.

http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29

The amount the points sell for have a range, but average about $10-11 a point. If you want to know how many points you will need try this link:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/DVCpoints.shtml

Just choose your resort and make sure you are looking at the points for the right year, they are different or 2011. Then you contact someone who has points for rent. Many like to be PM and it's easier to deal with personal information that way anyways. (like name and addresses and such)

You can check out www.mousesavers.com for additonal information and tips and pointers for renting points. This site has a link where you can check the tax id information on the renter to make sure they are real owners. There has not been a reported problem with owners from the DISboards, but there are scams on ebay. I have rented a few different times and had wonderful experiences. The rooms are cleaner and bigger then normal Disney rooms (and in most cases less expensive as well). Also you can get the Transporation to and from the MCO airport and you can add park tickets and meal plans to your rooms as well (no discount for those items, but they can be added). Just talk to the owners, most of them are very helpful and easy to deal with!

It's the best way to stay in some of the greatest place in Disney, my kids love staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, we are staying there in Feb after the cruise so they can just enjoy the hotel!!

Hello, everyone! We're starting to get excited for this cruise!:thumbsup2 We got our air booked to get us to Orlando (still waiting for fares to drop for the return flight), we booked a pre-cruise stay at Ron Jon Resort, and we have all of our transportation booked. The only things we're waiting on is air to drop for our return flight to Kansas City and for some kind of special to come out for room rates at WDW after the cruise. We did look in to renting points from DVC members, but we have so many people going that it just seemed a bit overwhelming to try to get it booked for everyone. I'm hoping that the room rates at WDW will come down and that there will be a promotion or something. Right now, they are ridiculously priced. But, we want to take advantage of EMH's, so we'll be booking regardless.

I'm sure ready for a vacation! Is it February yet?:) I also need to be doing some research on our Alaskan cruise with Disney--can't wait to do that one! Have a good weekend!

No, didn't cruise this time last year, but FL had a really cold Feb and early March. The parents had ressie at WDW and cancelled them because it was too cold! We are going down a few days early for this trip so the kids can swim and stuff, just hoping for good weather. (Needless to say it will be better than Indiana!)

We cruised on the Wonder in Nov 08, and couldn't keep the boys out of the Oceaneers club. They actually ran away from us when we came to pick them up. :rotfl: We are keeping this cruise a secret from them until Christmas. Although I am not sure I can go that long without spilling the beans!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/marla07860/Disney%20Wonder%20December%202009/PC110377.jpg

For Fish extender, people can sign up if they want and what everyone does is gives gifts to each of the cabin doing it, you don't have to get something for everyone in the cabin for example on December cruise someone made all the cabins a christmas wreath, or some people give everyone gifts in the cabin for example on the cruise someone gave each person in the cabin a box on baked bean candies.

You want book a date far in the future to give you the most flexibility. You can change/cancel it at any time until final pay date. You go to the booking desk and tell them you want to book a dummy date, they will pick a cruise for you. There are also cards you can fill out leave, the booking desk can sometimes be very busy, I'd recommend going early in the cruise if you want to speak with them.

The amount of the OBC depends on length of cruise and Castaway Club level, when I booked we were gold, on our 10th cruise, and got a $275 OBC, when we rebooked the cruise we were platinum and got the $350. You also get a 10% discount on the cost of the cruise(no discount on taxes, transfers or insurance).

If you know the date it is best because you lock it in at the lowest price when you book, if the price goes down you can get it adjusted, if you need to change you can.

I like the EC for the extra sea day, that was what we booked on the Fantasy. Disney took away Key West and added Costa Maya on the Fantasy WC, which significantly lowered the appeal for me.

You would be considered a Silver Castaway Club Member until you've completed your fifth cruise. With that, you'd get a $100 OBC for a 3-6 night cruise and a $200 OBC for a 7 night or longer cruise. You'd also get the 10% discount if you rebooked onboard. Hope this helps.:)

You can expect to have fun.

I've never been to Ron Jons but Cocoa Beach is not that big, it is only 30 -40 minutes from MCO so if you get in early enough you should have time. You don't have to be on the ship until mid afternoon so you have the morning before the cruise if you want, but I'd go to the port early, it's a big ship with much to explore and three days go by quickly.

I see that you have stayed at All Star Sports. We just booked rooms there for my entire family for after the cruise so we can go to Magic Kingdom. How was the resort? We've stayed at several of the other resorts onsite but have never been to All Star Sports. We finally got a "code" that enabled us to get a discount, so we decided to give it a try. Let me know your thoughts.:)

I have also stayed on All Star Sports, I stayed there before I went on the Disney Wonder 3 night cruise in August 2009. I know I enjoyed it. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I don't know that I would stay there for more then 3 or 4 nights, but other then that I know I'd stay there again. I like food courts much better at Sports and Pop Century where I stayed in october 2010

Thanks for your reply. I've stayed at All Star Movies before, and we thought it was just fine. Last year, we stayed at Wilderness Lodge, and it was all decorated for Christmas and was beautiful! We didn't really want to splurge on an expensive resort this time around since we'll only be there for one night. We knew we had to stay onsite though, cause if I remember correctly, Magic Kingdom is open until about 2:00 a.m. the night we'll be there. Not that we'll make it that long, but I'm sure we'll give it a try!:goodvibes

I haven't stayed there in a few years, but we liked All Star Sports. Your kids will probably think it is cool with the larger than life sports theme. The baseball pool is kinda neat.

My husband and I are joining my whole extended family (brother +5, other brother +3, mom and dad) for our semi-annual famiily vacation, courtesy of dad.

My husband and I are in 6674 and would love to be part of the FE gang. :thumbsup2

We're at WDW from the 13th until the cruise, so this will be the tail end of our vacation.

What is everyone looking forward to the most?

for me, I think it's the new technology. Some of the experiences on this cruise are very high-tech.

Welcome, Jennifer! We are also traveling with extended family and cannot wait!:cool1: We are all looking forward to just being on the new ship! In fact, for the the first time ever, I don't think we're scheduling any excursions at Nassau. We just want to wait until we get onboard to decide if we just want to spend time enjoying the ship or if we actually want to try to venture out in Nassau. We have a cat. 9, but my mother has a virtual porthole, and to be honest, I'm kind of excited to see that.:)

We are just ready to get this vacation started! We are going to WDW after the cruise and plan to hit Magic Kingdom before coming back to reality. We just can't bare going all that way and not hitting at least one of the parks.

Hope you and your family had a great Christmas! Now, bring on February!

Just found this thread! First time cruis'n Feb 17 - Feb 20 with extended family - might only be three days on the Dream but it will be a trip of a life time!

I am very excited and do have some questions - perhaps someone here can help --
Need info on aquaduck the youngest child in our group is 7, 47" can she go on aquaduck with an adult?!!

We are staying at County Inn & Suites - if so many of others from this board are staying there how does the shuttle to the port work - do i have to request a pick up time? What is there to do at the port with 4 kids ages 7-11?

and for transportation from the port to disney resort what is best to use? This is a huge cost so we are looking at the cheapest way, i know disney transport is $35 per person.

and what do people do to somehow get kids to sleep while on the cruise so they can get up in the morning to enjoy things to do?!

First time cruis'n!!!!!

Welcome! We are also traveling with extended family, and we're so excited! There are 18 of us! In answering a couple of your questions--I don't think your youngest will be able to do the AquaDuck. I believe the height limit is 48 inches. We are in the same situation. We have several young ones that are so disappointed! As for the transportation, we always rent a car from Budget and then return it at the airport. VERY easy to do and much more cost effective! Let me know if you need any other info on renting from Budget. See you soon!

Still figuring out the boards and how to read threads.

- Some first timer questions -- and these answers may be elsewhere but her they are:
when we arrive at the terminal is there a place to get food in case kids get hungry?
end of cruise - what do you do for breakfast on the last day? how late can we sleep in? can we carry off all our luggage or do we have to check luggage?
is the pool open on Sunday morning we disembark?

and - what is the safety drill exactly?

thank you! off to read more! too cold for kids to go to school today -- looking forward to going to FL!

when we arrive at the terminal is there a place to get food in case kids get hungry? There was a place where you could get food before the terminal renovation, I have not heard it was closed
end of cruise - what do you do for breakfast on the last day?You eat at the restaurant you ate at the last night-early dining at 6:30 late dining at 7:30-8.I think you can also choose to eat at Cabanas. how late can we sleep in? Everyone has to be off the ship by 9:00. can we carry off all our luggage or do we have to check luggage? You can do either.
is the pool open on Sunday morning we disembark? No.

and - what is the safety drill exactly? When you go to your lifeboat stations to learn what to do in case of an emergency.

Only 23 more days to go! Snow again here today. This cruise can't get here soon enough.

Hi Everybody! I thought I'd check in one last time about Fish Extenders. It seems like there are only a few people interested in participating, so I'm not sure if it's worth doing?

Let me know ASAP if you want to do the FE exchange and if there are enough people, we can get it going! Let me know! 3 weeks to go!! :cool1:

NTOFD - thanks for the answers to my questions.

This is how it worked the last time and the time before that and the time before that..... Unless they made some major changes here you go:goodvibes

1. There is a snack bar at the cruise terminal
2. The Cabana and one sit down resturant should be opened. The sit down rest. will be based on your dinning the night before and your servers will be there to say goodbye. (early diners goto breakfast 1st, then 2nd seating then 3rd)
3. Luggage is picked up outside your door the last night of the cruise
4. Pool will be closed on Sunday Morning
5. Safty drill is easy - you will here the alarm sound - go back to your cabin put on your life vest and report to the outside deck for your gorup. Location of your group is on the inside of your cabin door. It takes about 10 mintutes or so

Hope this was helpful

We are doing a B2B - 2/13 and 2/17 - We also have about 18 to 20 inches of snow up here:upsidedow

Maybe not, but we did in Dec. 2009 - I thought it was a regulation.:confused3

I read on another thread that the Dream isn't requiring life jackets anymore (due to space issues). Apparently, the Wonder and the Magic have changed the requirements as well.

thanks for the info everyone - so exited to leave this SNOW and hopefully no east coast snow storms in two weeks when we fly down!

interesting on the life vest/no life vest for the safety drill -- i am sure they will tell us

we got our cruise documents today from the travel agent -- getting very excited!!!!!

signed up kids for oceaneers club, confirmed hotel stay before, confirmed car rental for trip down,

we have early show, 6 pm dinner (or is it 6:30 dinner?!)

we have snorkel trip when in nassau (the cheapest snorkel trip)

and i do have a question: what is the latest we can leave the ship? i know we have to be out of our room, pools are closed, and food court is closed...but what is the best time to get off the ship after the longer lines?

AND...HELP money question: other than excursion, personal shopping, spa and alcohol, and prepaid gratutity...are there expenses i should be prepared for on or during the cruise??

I believe that you have to be off the ship by 0900, but someone else can correct me if I'm wrong. They will direct you to breakfast at the same restaurant where you dined the night before. The early seating guests have the early seating at breakfast (which is EARLY). We always skip that and just go for a buffet breakfast (not sure what the name of the buffet restaurant is on the Dream). It's usually not too crowded and gives us a few extra minutes of sleep in the morning. We try to get there at around 0815 for breakfast. In the past, we have just strolled off the ship after breakfast with very little line. I realize that may be different on the Dream (I've read about long customs lines), but that is how it has been for us in the past.

As for expenses, I think you have it covered! We are going to try and prepay our gratuities this time. The gratuity bill is usally the largest part of our stateroom account at the end (we're not really big drinkers). It will be nice not having that at the end! We have a $100 stateroom credit this time, so I'm going to try and use it for fun stuff! One other thing that they always get you with is the "light-up" drink on pirate night. They have these Mickey or Tinkerbell lights that attach to smoothies. They sell them on Pirate night at dinner and it seems like most of the kids get them. I think they are $7 or $8. My husband declined the offer on our first cruise and then felt guilty for our DD because ALL of the kids around us had one. He flagged down our server to get her one, so now we always go ahead and order it. It's an extra special treat and she enjoys it.

One other thing to offer. I always bring some of the light up bracelets for my daughter for pirate night. We bring a bunch (I buy them online from Oriental Trading) and then share them with other little kids we see. It's kind of fun and our DD enjoys sharing.

Have a great time. You will LOVE your trip. This will be our 3rd cruise. It seems like not long ago I was on these boards as a newbie--gobbling up every piece of advice I could find. Now I'm the one offering advice! :wizard:

Two weeks from today we set sail!

We have been in Orlando for the last 5 days missing the weather in NJ. I get to go home and scrape ice today. I hope the weather for our cruise stays as good as it has been here, it has been warm and sunny the whole time.
