About W.I.S.H

Within the DISboards, there is a group of DISers that like to talk about getting healthy or staying healthy, and all of the things that entails. They are called W.I.S.Hers. On this (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1715766) thread, TXBelle (Heather) shares the history of W.I.S.H. and how it all began.

You are always welcome to post on the W.I.S.H boards (http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=59) and ask questions, or to offer advice for someone else. Once you've posted, you are automatically a member of W.I.S.H!

Within W.I.S.H there are smaller teams of about 20 people each. You do not have to be on a team to be a member of W.I.S.H and you do not have to be a member of W.I.S.H to be on a team. They are just a way for smaller groups of people to get to know each other and to offer more personalized advice and suggestions.

How can I join a team?

Right now, jmasgat (Maura) is coordinating the teams. Go to this (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2381210) thread and post that you would like to join a team. You might also like to mention if you are an experienced athlete or just starting out, if you are a runner, a walker or a biker or what your goals are. She will try to match you up with a team that will benefit from your current fitness levels and goals.

Maura maintains the team leaders and members and makes sure the numbers stay pretty even. She will decide when it is time to start a new team and will coordinate that effort.

About the Rebels

On February 7, 2009, windwalker asked for a volunteer to lead a new team he named Rebel Alliance. It didn't appear that there were many people eager to take on that job! Soon however, Suzann and scoolover (Scott) stepped up and offered to share the duties of heading up the new team. Back then, every team member had to announce their monthly miles and minutes and the team captain kept a team total.

Before long the team had 11 members and by June we were up to 14. One of the latest monthly threads was started in July of 2009 by Suzann until K80K (Katie) started one in September of that same year. October was skipped and a November thread was started by wdwprincess (Jane). By this time, most members of the team had drifted away. "Real life" got in the way, training slowed down, there was an injury... For whatever reason, it appeared that the Rebels had disbanded.

In January of 2010, deekaypee (Debra) started asking for opinions (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2375591&highlight=rebel+alliance) for the new year and scoolover (Scott) offered to re-start the Rebels. He started a thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2378045&highlight=rebel+alliance) asking if any past team members were interested in coming back, and a few did. Then jmasgat (Maura) started filling the team in with brand new people who were either new to W.I.S.H or were ready to join a team. The numbers rose quickly and before long the team had 20 members.

Because of personal reasons, scoolover (Scott) asked disney_mommy (Andrea) to take over as team captain in February 2010. She accepted and the team is in its current state.

Jen - 9.5 miles - that's great! Get all your painting done? I would love to have a great weekend house to go to, where there's no work or crap to deal with, just relaxation. Ahhh...

Are you getting excited about your first race? I'm getting excited for you!!

Manda - Wow, thanks for that complement! I'm so glad that I am helping somebody, while at the same time helping myself.

Did you get your 6 miles in? And yes, cutting down a tree and chopping it into firewood most definitely counts as cross training!

Jane - You most definitely are getting stronger and faster! That's what training does. :thumbsup2

I know it's easy to let one bad decision ruin your progress. That's a hard lesson for me, too. I try to remember that it's over, and I can start over right then.

James - Congratulations on signing up for the race! $5 is all it costs to get you motivated, eh? You're so easy! :rotfl:

Howdy Rebels!
I just heard this BIG NEWS:
If you run the Walt Disney World Marathon next year, you’ll get a day at Walt Disney World on the house. Go to the Disney Parks Blog for details -you can also vote for the medal you think Disney should award runners at next year’s Disney Marathon.

That's motivation to do the Full next year for me!
Happy for all of you who will be saving the $$$ this year though!:cool1:

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. The toe was infected but I've been diligently taking care and have a nice walk scheduled for tomorrow.
Like Jane, the sore toe and not being able to walk as much set me back a bit. But, it is a new month and we will begin on a good foot (or toe as the case may be).
Jen - great job this weekend. So glad it was productive and fun.
James - signing up for a marathon is such a great incentive. Way to go.
Special thanks, Andrea, for keeping us going!
Happy June everyone!

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to pop in real quick to say hello. Between working on my boys' bedroom, the last week of school with parties, field days, etc., working a little, pig roast and tons of family coming in, sister's graduation, etc. I haven't had time to do much working out or running. Barely even have time to count down the days until I leave for a Moms Only Disney trip to do the Expedition Everest Challenge. I knew when we bought our plane tickets during the 3ft snow storm in February that this would really sneak up on us.

Welcome to June everyone!!!

Jen- I can't believe you got in the water! The smaller lakes here in MI are ok but just putting my toes in Lake Michigan this weekend was NOT a fun experience!

Jane- Way to be on Sat! Hill and humidity! I think I would have fainted! Thanks for the tips on Target....I have to get some stuff for my sisters baby shower and might just browse over to the clothing department!

Gretchen- Good luck on your walk tomorrow! I hope your toe feels better!

I wish I had it in me to do the full marathon! If I didn't already have leftover tickets I might upgrade....but I do so we will save the full for another year. I'll get my first 1/2 marathon out of the way first!

cwnhokie- Sounds REALLY busy out your way! Have a great week and just take it all in!

AFM- I got in a couple of good walks on Mon and Tue! I also did some gardening on Monday and whatever I did worked my Glutes and Hamstrings! I still feel them! I have been busy getting a spaghetti dinner ready for the group of kids I'm taking to Disney this month (13 TEENAGERS :scared1:!) I am looking forward to my long workout, a little intimidated as it will be my longest workout every at 4 miles, but I will "Get 'er done!" one way or the other!

Keep up the great work Rebels!

Morning Rebels! Did I mention that I am going to go to the Last Tour to Endor celebration on August. Thought my fellow Rebels might be excited about that. :)

Checking in with a weight workout this morning. I tried to wake up for spin but these long days with training in the evening just take too much out of me. I woke up and stared at the ceiling for 15 minutes, ate an english muffin, and then started to fall asleep on the couch. Turned the alarm off and rolled over. Ended up a little late to work thanks to 4 oversized loads on the beltway, but I did get my workout in.

Katie - good job on getting that workout in. Last Tour to Endor in August should be great.
Nikki - my walk today felt so good. It made me realize how much I missed walking and how much better I feel after doing it. What? Going to Disney with 13 teenagers. You have my deepest respect!
cwnhokie - an all girls trip to Disney is the best. Expedition Everest should be so much fun!
Well, my walk was wonderful. I did 5.7 miles and it felt great. (my toe was good too). It is amazing how down and discouraged I was getting. I am so glad that I got out and pushed through the doldrums. Boy was it hot out, though. Glad I did it early on in the day. Now, let's see what tomorrow's total mileage will be. On a positive note, I think the rest did me some good. My pace time increased ( a little, but an increase nonetheless).
Good day Rebels.

4.44 miles with some speed training intervals this morning. It is warm and humid here in Maryland this week. Makes me really nervous about how my race will end up on Sunday as it doesn't sound like this is going to break until some thunder storms roll through on Sunday night. :P

Barb - Thanks for the head's up about the free day promotion. I wonder if they are trying to combat a drop in attendance that Monday. I'm sure a lot of people go home on Sunday so they can go back to work on Monday. (I know that's what I'm doing for the Wine & Dine this year.) I also voted on the medal, but I feel bad because I'm not even going to be in that race. Oh well. :rolleyes1

Gretchen - Glad your toe is getting better, that was probably a big ouchie! And very glad you are out of the doldrums!

cwnhokie - Glad you checked in! That time really does sneak up on us, doesn't it? Sounds like you have a lot going on, I hope you're managing well and not too stressed out.

Nikki - Wow - 13 kids to Disney? Teenagers?! You will have other chaperones with you, right? I love that you're looking forward to your workout, what a great attitude to have! And you will rock those 4 miles! :cheer2:

I like your new avatar, by the way. Very cute. :thumbsup2

Katie - That Last Tour to Endor sounds awesome. I had never heard of it until I googled it after reading your post. My son has been obsessed with Star Wars for years now, I would love to take him. Why did you decide to go?

I don't know how you do those early morning classes. I accepted a long time ago that it is just not in my nature to get up early and exercise. I can sleep in my workout clothes and have my shoes by the bed, but I will choose sleep over exercise every single time. Maybe if I became more fit and ran races every other weekend like you, I would be more willing, but right now it's not going to happen.;)

Maybe the storms will push some cool air through in front of them. But surely our Jedi Master of the Half Marathon isn't afraid of a little warm weather? We know you laugh in the face of humidity!

We're almost to the weekend, everyone! :yay:

My Mom was planning to go down that week anyway to check on her house down there. For minimal $$$ I get a nice quick vacation to FL to celebrate something I love. I still love the ride...could get on it over and over again. I have several friend in the 501st including one in the Tampa area, so I have a feeling he will be there too. Plus the draw of Disney fireworks to the music from Star Wars really got me.

I am sooo excited to have found another WISH walker in my town!!

TEEN TRIP TO DISNEY- I am going down with 13 teen (16 to 18 years old). There will be 1 other chaperon whit me. I am not too worried about my group. They are a bunch of great kids who are all competing in Health related fields, I call them my future health care providers! I should be a fun conference. There are about 3,000 kids that will be there. Anyone going to WDW in June I feel REALLY bad for! I'll have to keep you all updated about the experience!

Way to get out there and work it Rebels!

I slacked a bit yesterday and did not get my walk in. Almost missed it this morning too due to my basement being flooded! (happened before, this time was MUCH better with A LOT less water!) I took care of it and almost used it as an excuse not to walk, but then I remembered I missed on Thurs and powered through! It was a great walk!!

Looking forward to my 4 miler tomorrow, still trying to figure out where to do it at!

Take care Rebels!

Wow Rebels - so much has gone on in just a few days. I mean I missed an intruder and so many great workouts and information. I'm so far behind.

Gretchen - I'm glad to hear that your toe is healing and that you are getting back on track. Yup - it's hot up here right now but keep pushing through. Great job on the pace increase.

cwnhokie - Best of luck with the Everest challenge. I hope you have a great mom's trip and love the challenge. I LOVED it (despite last year's downpour). And if it weren't in June I would probably do it again. Although, now that I'm doing long runs in this heat I don't really think there's any reason why I shouldn't have done this challenge again. If it gets too hot, keep a lookout for the leftover barrels of ice water by the beverage carts as you run through AK. I frequently grabbed ice and cooled myself down without ever stopping my run.

Nikki - great job getting your walks in this week. And you found a new training buddy. So fun. I can't believe though that you are taking all those teens to Disney. I couldn't even imagine that many adults in one group at Disney. But teens??? Bless you! You must have a ton of patience and a huge heart. Good luck with your basement flood. Your 4 miler tomorrow is gonna fly by and you'll be wondering what you were worried about.

Katie - The last tour to endor sounds so fun. I'm not a big star wars fan, but I agree. I want to see fireworks set to star wars music. I won't be able to make it, but my mom lives down there so I'm going to recommend that she goes. She'll love it. Have so much fun when you do go. Best of luck to you again this weekend. I'm get tired just thinking about your running.

Andrea - I am just like you with those early mornings. The only thing that gets me up early in the mornings is that I run with my group on Saturdays. I get up so much earlier on Saturday than any other day of the week. Every other day I would much rather workout until midnight than have to get up an extra hour early. I feel ya, sista! I, too, voted for the medal when I'm only doing the half. But I'm thinking maybe they'll make the half medal similar or maybe we'll get to vote on our own after they pick the marathon one. Who knows?

Hi Margie!

Luckymum - Good luck on your 10K.

Jen - Hugs for your half!!!!!!

So here's my week in three million words or less. Tuesday's run was GROSS!!! So humid. Set out for 45 minutes. Stopped at 30 b/c it was so gross and our training program says a minimum of 30 minutes 2 times during the week. So minimum it was. Last night, super hot 85 but not as humid. I set out to do my 45 and I completed it. I slowed down ALOT. I felt it was more important to go the distance than to get faster last night. It worked, I felt great. Oh and I had walked the dog on a 2 mile walk before that 45 minutes. I was tired, but got through it. Tomorrow's group run is 8 miles. :scared1: I've never done more than 6 and it's hot hot hot up here right now. But I'm determined to power through. The good news about the run is that the last 4 miles is on the same path that I have been training on since I began running. So I figure by the time I hit that 4 miles mentally I'll be like "I've got this....no problem." Let's cross our fingers on this.

It'll be the first time I'm starting to use gels on my runs. Anyone have recommendations of how much and how often they use them? I know its different for each person, I'm just a big planner and I like to have some information under my belt to keep me going.

Have a GREAT weekend!!! Stay hydrated and keep moving!

Nikki - sorry to hear about your basement flooding. Glad you were able to work things out and get out there.:thumbsup2
Jen - thinking of you and your Half coming up. :cutie:
Jane - I hear you on this heat and humidity. It really takes a lot of determination to work through the miles. Great that you are doing it and keeping up with your group. I also voted on the medal for the Jan. marathon but plan on doing the Half. Daughter is doing it but I haven't heard to see if she has voted yet. Would also like to get to vote for the Half medal.
Anyways, I'm still moving along and battling the heat. Looking for some cooler places to do my walking. I did 4.2 miles yesterday along the D & R Canal which wasn't so bad. Mornings work real well along the canal. Plan on doing another section tomorrow. For today, it is cross training in the pool. Grandkids are coming over after school and they always give me a good workout.

TGIF Rebels and have a great weekend.

Nikki - You and 1 other adult are taking 13 teens to Disney? You are brave! Even if they're good kids, that's still a big responsibility. Good luck and have fun.

Sorry your basement flooded, but glad it wasn't too bad and it was a quick fix. And good for you for doing that walk anyway!:thumbsup2 Enjoy your 4-miler tomorrow.

Jane - No worries, we dispatched the intruder with swiftness and strength. She shall bother us no more. ;)

2 miles plus 45 minutes? You go girl! :woohoo: You will rock those 8 miles tomorrow, especially with so much company right there doing it with you.

I am exactly like you with the planning! I had to find out the exact ratio of fuel, water and drinks to do on my long walks. Everyone kept telling me "everyone is different, but here's what I do," so that's what I'll tell you. I sip water every few minutes, then after 30-45 minutes, I take a gel or chew with a gulp of water, then 30-45 minutes after that, I take a big gulp of Powerade, then start over with the water sipping. I think the key is to start taking things before you need them. If you wait until you start to need the energy, then it's too late (I learned that the hard way).

For the gels, I use 1/2 packet per serving; for the chews, I take about 6 per serving.

Chews/Beans, in order of preference:
Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chew Cherry Blossom (totally taste like yummy candies, LOVE these)
Jelly Belly Sport Beans Orange
Jelly Belly Sport Beans Lemon Lime

Gels, in order of preference:
Gu Chocolate Outrage
Clif Shot Chocolate
Honey Stinger Chocolate (do you see a theme here?)

Gretchen - Are there any parks with lots of trees where you can walk? Or how about in a local mall, in the air conditioning? Have fun in the pool with the grandkids!

Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chew Cherry Blossom (totally taste like yummy candies, LOVE these)

These are my energy chew of choice. I take 2 before my run and again every 2 miles for anything over 6. They taste much like a cherry Luden's cough drop...you know the ones you used to fake being sick for as a kid. :)

Hey Rebels! So much going on and I have missed a lot of good information. I will say that it will be a little hit and miss for me until the end of next week - as a school teacher, these last 2 weeks are insane! I have to pack my whole classroom up on top of it all because I am not returning to this job. I will now attempt to catch up with everyone!

Jen - 9.5 miles - that's great! Get all your painting done? I would love to have a great weekend house to go to, where there's no work or crap to deal with, just relaxation. Ahhh...

Are you getting excited about your first race? I'm getting excited for you!!

Andrea - We are not totally done painting. We will have to finish up when we go back to the cabin in a few weeks. We do love our lake place and it is wonderful to have someplace to get away from it all. I do wish that we had internet service up there but in some ways it is nice to get away from that as well.

Now that I am basically a day away from the race...I am getting nervous!

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. The toe was infected but I've been diligently taking care and have a nice walk scheduled for tomorrow.

Gretchen - How is the toe? I have been very careful with my feet lately!

Sounds like you are busy too! It is amazing how quickly the days go by when there is so much on the "to do" list.

Jen- I can't believe you got in the water! The smaller lakes here in MI are ok but just putting my toes in Lake Michigan this weekend was NOT a fun experience!

I am looking forward to my long workout, a little intimidated as it will be my longest workout every at 4 miles, but I will "Get 'er done!" one way or the other!

The lake was . . .refreshing! :rotfl2: Seriously, we are crazy about getting in the water. I can't believe that we jumped on in because it was COLD! We usually cannot get into the lake until into July because the water is usually not warm enough until then.

How did your 4 miles go? I bet you did great!:thumbsup2

Love it! That is what I do as well...except often I do not fit the workout in. You did a great job getting your workout done!

Sounds like you might have needed some rest. Glad to see that the walk went well and your toe was good.

4.44 miles with some speed training intervals this morning. It is warm and humid here in Maryland this week. Makes me really nervous about how my race will end up on Sunday as it doesn't sound like this is going to break until some thunder storms roll through on Sunday night. :P

Good Luck at your race on Sunday! I will think of you as we are running ours!

I am sooo excited to have found another WISH walker in my town!!

I think it is great you found another WISH walker! How fun! I have met 2 WISH runnners/walkers at races in MN and it was really cool to have a little meet.

Wow Rebels - so much has gone on in just a few days. I mean I missed an intruder and so many great workouts and information. I'm so far behind.

Jen - Hugs for your half!!!!!!

So here's my week in three million words or less. Tuesday's run was GROSS!!!

It'll be the first time I'm starting to use gels on my runs. Anyone have recommendations of how much and how often they use them?

I wasn't on for a few days so I am with you on how you feel like you are so far behind. It is great that the team is so active though and I love knowing that I can come here and find advice, support, words of wisdom, or whatever.

Thanks for the good wishes on my 1/2.

As for the gels...DH and I tried one last weekend to see if we could use what they have at the races and there is NO WAY I would ever try one again. This might be a bit gross but we decided it was like having a mouth full of snot! :rotfl2: We use the Jelly Bean Sport things.

Jen - thinking of you and your Half coming up. :cutie:

Anyways, I'm still moving along and battling the heat. Looking for some cooler places to do my walking.

Thanks for all the support for my upcoming race. It is great to have everyone sending good wishes! :lovestruc

How is the heat doing? Have you found some place cooler to walk?

Thanks for posting this. We have been kind of afraid to try something new and hearing what others like really helps.

AFM - I have not been on because life is busy. Also, my exercising has been really limited this week. I have biked to work 1 day for 6 miles of biking, we had track & field at school for tons of walking around (I was a runner - aka - go get whatever anyone needs) and we are planning on a short walk tomorrow. DH and I have taken it pretty easy this week.

I am thinking we are ready for the half marathon. I have a great outfit picked out. Tonight I am going to give myself a pedicure (not cutting the nails though), use really good moisturizing lotion on my feet and legs and then paint my finger nails as well. I have hot pink polish to match the rest of my outfit! We will drive to Minneapolis tomorrow morning to pick up our race packets and then the race is at 7 AM on Sunday.

In some ways I am terrified! I mean, I just started running in January...what was I thinking? In other ways, I am feeling okay. We have trained hard and we have put in the miles so we should be able to finish.

Alright, this is super long because I was so far behind. Hope everyone is prepared for a great weekend!

Jen, you guys are going to rock that race. You are well prepared physically and mentally. It's totally normal to be nervous, but you are going to have so much fun and you will always remember this race because it is your first. I'm so excited for you! :yay:

As for the other stuff - I agree that it would be nice to go without internet for a while and take a break, but I would probably fall apart without my 'net. I'm so sad.:surfweb:

Gels can be hard to take, I agree. It's odd to have to chew something syrupy. But some flavors are much better than others.

I love that you'rematching your nails to your outfit. My family was laughing as I obsessed about what to wear for the Princess, but I just kept saying "the outfit matters! It's important!" It never ocurred to me to match my nails. Hmmm...:rolleyes1

Good luck with getting your school year pulled together. After you complete that race, you'll feel like you can accomplish anything! :thumbsup2

Hellooooo Rebels!
Good luck tomorrow on your Zooma Annapolis Half, Katie
and for your Team Ortho Minneapolis Half Marathon, Jen!
Hope you both have cool temps & low humidity!

I changed my profile picture so you can see what Bob and I look like all sweaty at the end of our first 10K!
Our time was ok...we weren't last! That is always my goal!
1:07:55 I expected to come in around 1:09 so I did better than I thought. Bob stuck with me the whole way and a couple runners he knows from work were at the race too. They were driving away when we were still about a half mile from the finish line and they yelled to us out the car window. That suxd! :sad2:
I spent the last 1/2 mile telling Bob that being a good husband is better than finishing before those dorks. I didn't see their wives running with them and if they did, they'd probably leave their wives behind! I got me a good one!
It was a good flat course by the river in Harrisburg, PA but it was very hot and very humid. At the water stops, I took a sip from the cup then poured the rest down the back of my neck! Glad it is over now and we have our first qualifying finish time to submit for corral placement at the WDW Half!

I got my 4 miles in!!!! 1h5m! I felt good during the whole walk! I even had enough energy to follow it up with cross fit! 3 sets of 10 push ups, 20 jump ropes, and 10 step-ups followed by a 400m jog holding a 5lb weight!!

As my long workouts get longer I'm going to have to move my cross fit to another day! Well I'm off to my sisters baby shower!!!:cheer2:

Nikki - Great job with a walk AND cross training! You are doing super!!!

Alright, I would reply more but it is going to be a busy day. I have report cards that MUST be done before tomorrow and I have barely started them. I will give you all a brief update on the race.

We got to the race about 6:15 AM and I was stunned by all the runners (even though I knew it would be huge, I was still surprised). I was even more surprised when I saw that our area to line up was about 2 blocks back from the start line (this was based on the pace we were aiming for). The weather really was cooperating with us as it was a perfect temperature. There were points where it was really sunny and hot and other times where the skies were a bit cloudy and a slight breeze would come (loved this part). DH and I felt really good this morning and the first miles passed pretty quickly. We had planned on walking at mile 4...but didn't. We walked for a couple of moments to get drinks at mile 5 and then ran right away again. We planned on walking at mile 8...but didn't. Again, we walked for a minute or two to drink and have some jelly beans. At about mile 11 we caught up with Corinna (from the WISH / Team Ohana) and again, walked as we had drinks. Then we ran again. The end of the race is almost all uphill. There was one really steep hill where we power walked up part of it as our running was as slow as walking! I was so excited to see the flag for mile 13 and crossing the finish line was AMAZING!

Our time: 2 hours, 22 minutes and 30 seconds!
Our goal: 2 hours, 45 minutes (or more...we just were hoping for under 3 hours)

I am so proud of DH and totally proud of myself. I can't believe that we completed the race in such a great time!

On the way home, we were talking about registering for our next 1/2 marathon...we must be insane!

Alright, time to focus on the grades but I just wanted to share how happy I was. Here is one of the photos:

Jen - Congrats!!!! What an AMAZING race for you today. We are so proud of you. I hope my first half is as smooth sailing as yours.

Nikki - Nice job with walking and cross fit. I wish I could be motivated to do more after my run, but naps just seem like the thing to do.

Barb (and Bob) - Great job on the 10K. My first 10K is next weekend. My group is doing it as a training run. But I'm excited about getting officially timed and getting the t-shirt. It's the little things.

Katie and Andrea - Thanks for the suggestions on gels and beans and candies (oh my!). I did use Gu Chocolate Outrage on Saturday and it was delicious. Tastes just like chocolate pudding. Totally gave me energy. I just have to adjust the timing on when and how much going forward.

Gretchen - Yup it's still hot and humid here. Hope you found some cooler places to walk this weekend.

AFM, I did my 8 miles yesterday. It was tough but I got through it. It was totally mental. Just getting my mind to commit and know I could do it was the toughest part. During the last half mile my calves started to feel tight, but I was so committed to finish. Actually at the last minute the group decided to change part of the root, running right by my building at 7 miles. It was so hard not to just go inside into the AC. But I kept on plugging away. I NEVER would have done it without them. I came home immediately showered, and found that it took about 12 hours for my body temperature to come down. I had the AC on 60 and it just couldn't get cool enough for me. Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me? Well today, my lower back hurts a little, probably because my posture suffered as I was pushing through that heat. But I did it and I'm proud. Next weekend is my first 10K, the NYC Mini 10K. Then 10 and 12 milers the following weekends. I should be well prepared for my half in October.

Enjoy what's left of the weekend Rebels!!!

Yeah Barb (and silent Bob). You did great! :thumbsup2
Nikki - Good work doing those miles. Things are moving along; that's wonderful.:woohoo: Hope you have a great time at your sister's shower.
Jen- wow, your smile says it all. You were terrific. It's amazing how training hard really pays off. That feeling of crossing the finish line is like none other.
Way to go :thumbsup2
Jane - I do take quite some time to cool down when I've been walking in the hear for so long. It seems that while I'm walking it doesn't seem so bad; but boy do I perspire once I start to cool down. You are doing a great job with your training and it will all pay off in the end. You will do great in your October race.:goodvibes
AFM - I had a really good weekend. It was so nice to do our early morning walks and then come home to jump in the pool. I did lots of swimming as well (oh, I mean cross training ;) ) It has cooled off a bit here in NJ today so, DH and I went out for a quick walk along the waterfront this evening too. It was really nice.
Have a great week Rebels!

OMG I just melted yesterday. It was in the 80 with 70+% humidity and not a cloud in sight yesterday. Great for swimming but not great for a half marathon, especially one with no shade for the last 5 miles. It was a struggle and I think my worst half marathon time yet. Would have been a beautiful course on a cooler day. Next year I am just doing the 10K.

Jen - You did awesome! You totally rocked the half and you should be proud of yourself. You will always remember that amazing, proud feeling of crossing the finishing line. You earned it. (Great picture by the way. You look so happy.)

Nikki - You go girl! Not only did you rock the 4 miles, you had the energy to cross train after! :woohoo:

Jane - Naps are always a good thing! ;) As anyone who has ever raced can tell you, it's all about the bling!

You did great on your 8 miles yesterday! I remember as I was starting with my long walks I had a total mental breakdown. My body felt like it could keep going, but it was so bad in my head. It was really bad. I went to the boards and ROTEers gave me a big pep talk and basically talked me down. Encouragement like that is really invaluable.

Good for you for not stopping at 7 miles and heading home. That took dedication. Yes, I've found that it takes a while for my body to cool down after a hard walk/workout. A cool shower really helps.

You will most definitely rock the Wine & Dine!

Gretchen - Man, I'm so jealous that you have a pool! The mosquitos are so bad in our backyard that we can't go out there. It's barely tolerable to be in the front yard, but the back is a no-no. We would never get to swim if we had a pool. Although it might be worth it on those 98 degree days...

Katie - I'm so sorry the weather didn't break for your race. But I'm glad you survived and completed #21.

I'm so happy for all of us, we've all made huge strides in our goals. I'm very proud to be a part of this group. Every one of you rocks! :grouphug:

Hi Rebels -

Checking in so I don't fall behind.

Gretchen - I think if the weather goes back to being that hot, I might be running towards your pool and stopping by for a swim. :) But hey, at least we have this cool front in right now, giving us perfect weather for our walking and running.

Katie - Regardless of your time or weather, what a great accomplishment to finish your 21st. It'll surely be a race to remember for you because of the circumstances. And who knows, maybe they'll move it to a nice time of year and you can enjoy the pretty course another time.

Andrea - You are such a great cheerleader. :cheer2: I don't know how you do it.

Thanks to everyone for letting me know about their body temperatures. I was thinking that there was something seriously wrong with me. Yesterday was an off day, today is 45 minutes. The weather is perfect - cool and sunny. Tonight's run should be super enjoyable and perhaps I can see a time improvement.

Oh - one last thing. I booked my Universal hotel for the days after the Wine n Dine. So excited to go see Harry Potter. Haven't been to Uniersal in 10 years. So it's just another added excitement to my October trip.

Happy Running!

Jane - That's a great idea - Gretchen can host a Rebel Pool Party in her backyard!

I am a much better cheerleader than runner/walker. It's very easy for me to encourage and offer advice to others, but it is much harder to take my own advice! I'm trying to get better at it, though.

Ooh, you get to do something else fun after W&D! Let us know how HP is. I've never been to Universal. Our trips to the World are often so short that we don't have time to go off-site and do anything else.

Don't know if anyone else gets the emails from Runner's World, but I thought of you, Jane, when I saw this:

I admire you, Katie, for making it through that heat. You are truly a trooper.
Jane - It has really been nice these past few days, I agree. If you are ever running here in central NJ during another heat wave, please PM me and we'll see what we can do.
Andrea - You are such a great cheerleader. :cheer2: I wholeheartedly agree! You really take the time to respond to everyone and give such good helpful hints. Much appreciated. Jeez, even including those pool party invites:laughing:
OK, I missed walking today. I worked on a SS project with my grandson. We had him after school. He chose to make Russian Tea Cakes for his presentation and report on Russia. He did a great job and they came out delicious. Yes, I did taste one (really, only one). He was so proud of them and I just could not say no when he served me one. Feeling a bit guilty now but at the time it was the right thing to do. I do plan on walking tomorrow - a 5m with cousin.

Gretchen- What i wouldn't give to have a pool to jump into on hot humid days! Luckily it has been mild here the past few days and PERFECT weather for walking!

Katie- Sorry your 1/2 was soooo hot and sunny!! Is the 10K course shadier?

Andrea- Thank you so much for your encouragement!

AFM- I was bad today! I did not get my workout in! Today was the day of the Spaghetti Dinner. It didn't go quite as planned (it rained and the ball games RIGHT NEXT to the place we were holding the dinner were canceled!) we did have 72 people show up so we made around $300. Even our intruder from earlier came and joined! It was so much fun to meet a WISHer! But I didn't get my walk in between making cookies last night until midnight, and then working the dinner until 9:30 tonight! Tomorrow I have a Cross-Fit outing planned! And a walk in the AM if I get up early enough!

Margie from team Hakuna Matata is going to do my long walk with me this weekend! It will be nice to have some company!!

Take care everyone! I'm off to wash the spaghetti sauce smell out of my hands!

Happy Wednesday Rebels!

Andrea - Thanks for the article. I found a lot of tips for running in the heat and humidity on the website. Gave me something to do while I'm bored here at work.:rolleyes1

Gretchen - Good luck on your 5 miles today. I think doing a project with your grandson is a perfect excuse to not workout and yes, you had to have the tea cake. You'll walk it off in no time.

Nikki - Also another great reason to not have worked out. Glad you were able to raise some money at the spaghetti dinner. Enjoy your cross fit today and your new walking buddy this weekend!

AFM, weather here last night was so great again. Did an easy 3 miles. My best pace so far this running season. Improved by 8 seconds/mile on my pace. Wanted to go further but don't want to get injured. Supposed to rain today. I'm thinking about trying to find some sort of upper body workout to do. I'm taking suggestions.

Hi Rebels,

Checking in. Had the day off today so was able to run in the morning. Did 3 miles. It was a little humid, so I was slower than Tuesday but still ok with my pace.

Picked up my race materials for this weekends 10K. Think it's pretty neat that my rather large slow booty will be running the same race as world class elite runners. Kinda neat. Have a great weekend and pray for no humidity for us here on Saturday morning.

Jane - How exciting to have all your info for Saturday's 10K. :cool1:
I will surely be thinking about you and sending pixie dust for no humidity and perfect weather. pixiedust:
I did those 5m on Wed. with cousin and we had a great walk. I also got to do 3.3m this evening and had a pretty good pace. I think that alternating the longer walks with the shorter faster paced walks seems to be working for now.
I am going to keep this pattern for awhile. There was a problem with the instructor for the Zumba class so we haven't even gotten to sign up for it. I guess it wasn't meant to be. I will have to practice at home with the tapes I got. It is pretty fun though. Not sure what's up for tomorrow; husband is getting ready for a 5 day bicycle trip to Gettysburg so I'll be busy doing laundry :laundy: and packing for him. Otherwise, all is well and I'm moving along.

Gretchen - Thanks for appreciating me! Like I said, I'm good at it. That and inviting my teammates to other people's houses so they can swim in their pool!

You should not feel guilty about eating anything, but especially one tea cake that your grandson offered you. It was the right thing to do, so NO MORE GUILT!

So you are enjoying your Zumba tapes?

Nikki - Glad your spaghetti dinner was such a success, but please don't think you were not bad for not fitting in workouts between a crazy schedule. I'm really one of those people that will correct my friends if they say "I was bad today, I had a so-and-so." Just because you eat something not healthy or skip a workout, it doesn't make you bad. It's just an opportunity to learn and move on. So your lesson to learn is that you shouldn't try to schedule a workout on such busy days. Either plan something quick and easy, or just plan something bigger for the next day. There, teaching moment over.:thumbsup2

That's so cool that you and Margie have met and are getting along. What a small world! Have fun on your walk tomorrow.

Jane - I'm glad I could keep you from getting bored at work. ;)

Congrats on improving your time! That's a great increase.

Hmm, I don't have any upper body suggestions, but I'm sure someone here will be able to offer you something.

Are you excited about your race this weekend? And yes, you will be there with elite runners and you will show them that everyone can do it if they want it bad enough! :cheer2:

Red Alert-Red Alert...Inturder Warning!

Met your sweet Team Mate, Nikki at the Spaghetti dinner last night! :grouphug:

Clearly our impressive numbers and strength were not enough to scare this intruder away. We must remain vigilant! (Although if Nikki keeps being friendly, we'll never get rid of her!;))

Good Morning Rebels - checking in early as I have a lot going on today. Heading to the annual BBQ festival today, (delicious) and then the premiere of True Blood tonight. It's gonna be a great day.

Nikki - Great job getting out there yesterday! That's great that your husband joined you. So supportive!

Gretchen - I can't ever seem to get myself motivated to do tapes at home. I can always find something else to do when I'm in my house. So I applaud you for being able to do the Zumba tapes at home. I can't wait till you can get in the class though. I want to sign up here, but I'm waiting for a class to start close by.

Thank you to everyone for your well wishes! I finished my first 10K yesterday with a time of 1:29:32 Pace of 14:26. It was super humid here, but I am really happy with my time and pace. This was a training run so I didn't push it. But that pace is still really good for me. I'm happy to just finish, but really excited to see a number under 14:30 as that means I'm getting faster. Going to do a little cleaning before hitting up the BBQ festival today. Enjoy your Sunday Rebels!

Jane- GREAT job yesterday!!! :banana::banana:

As for Me- I got my 5 mile walk in yesterday with our "intruder" Margie! It was soo humid out! 90% is what the weather said! If felt like we needed gills to breath! But we got it done! Margie was nice enough to let me wear her Garmin 305 during the walk! It was love at first sight! I can't wait to get one this fall as a reward for completing the M4M 1/2 marathon walk program! I loved how you could see splits for every mile, as well as how far you had walked! I'll be able to vary my routes more once I don't have to worry about distance!

I'm going to try to get in the cross-fit workout that I missed yesterday (walking 5 miles in 1 day was enough for me :)) Have a great Sunday Rebels!:cheer2:

Survived my 7 miler this morning. Actually finished feeling much better than I thought I would. I am much more confident for the 10 miler I have next weekend as my last few runs have not been that strong.

Katie- Great job on the 7 miler! It must be wonderful to finish feeling great! I am sure with that attitude your 10 miler will be a breeze!

ME- I got a good 40 minute walk in yesterday and a GREAT 40+ minute 3 miler in today! After 40 minutes we were are 2.8 or so miles so we walked until we hit 3! I love having a walking partner!

I have figured out my game plan for my vacation. I am going to repeat this weeks workouts. I don't think I have enough time next week to do a 7 miler while watching the kids. I will have time for a 3 mile walk either around Coronado springs or in their gym on the treadmill.

Keep it up Rebels! Can't wait to hear how you all are doing!

Katie - Great job on your 7 miler. I'm sure your 10 miles will be a breeze. I have my first 10 miler this weekend. Probably not a breeze for me.....probably more like dragging thousand pound weights on my ankles through quick sand. So picture me, and you'll be breezing on by.

Nikki - You've had a great couple of days. I have the Garmin 305 (I'm kind of a gadget *****) and I love it. I bought it last year around Father's Day at Best Buy and got a great deal. I think I only paid around $125 for it. So keep your eyes peeled. I'm excited you found a new walking buddy. And completely jealous that you're going to see Mickey. Please tell him I'm sorry I haven't seen him in so long, but I'll be there in October. I don't want him to forget about me. :)

AFM - had two rest days. Tonight I have 48 minutes to get in. Humidity is low here so I'm anticipating a fantastic run.

Jane - I like your new avatar! I loved True Blood, what did you think?

Congrats on completing your first 10k yesterday! :cool1: And you're right, that is a great time. Very good pace, especially for such humid weather.

Nikki - That is so cool, that you found someone from the boards that you can train with. I'm glad you two found each other.

I will be on vacation next week, too. I will have my training plan with me and figure I can fit the walks in anytime. I'm hoping to do lots on the beach, since we are renting a house right on the gulf.

Katie - Glad you survived your 7 miler! :yay: Good luck on your 10 miler this weekend.

Had a great time this weekend for our girls only trip to WDW for Expedition
Everest Challenge. It was hot, hot, hot, but so much fun. Laughed, ran, rode rides, ate, laughed, ate, laughed. Time to go to bed, out flight was delayed and didn't get in until almost 2AM, then the real world came crashing in at 6AM. I'm exhausted.

Had a great cross- fit training session with Margie and 2 other ladies.
1 person used the row machine to row 500m, while they were rowing the other 3 ladies were either doing 20 seconds on/ 10 seconds off of : Push-ups, jump rope, or weighted squats!! What an awesome workout! Nothing like working out as a team!

Wow. Rebels have been busy.
Nikki - I'm glad you've found exercise buddies. It does make the workouts more tolerable. I know that Wed. walks with my cousin always seem to be the best of the week.
Jane - I do enjoy the Zumba tapes but you are right about getting up the ambition to do at home. It is really easy to slack off or miss some days. Sure sounds like you are making great progress. :thumbsup2
AFM - well, it has been a bit slow. I've only done several short walks since Sat.; nothing really that productive. But, I've kept moving and did the Zumba tape for Abs and Thighs (was much sorer than expected). No major plans for the remainder of the week so will keep on moving.

cwnhokieI'm glad you had so much fun! It sounded like a great event.

Nikki - That sounds like quite a workout! Having friends doing the same thing must surely make it more fun.

Gretchen - Good for you for keeping up with your walking and the tapes at home. You're right - it is all about keeping moving!

I finally started a new training schedule for my half in September, so I'm feeling very motivated and excited right now. Plus, I'm going to be walking with a first-timer, so I get to be her coach as we train, and you all know how much I love doing that! It helps keep me motivated at the same time. Hopefully I'll get to see Christy there again.

Andrea - Let's start with TB. I was a little underwhelmed by this first episode. I wanted there to be much more wow action. Best Part - Eric  (I was drooling!) followed closely by Sam's dream (I did yell loudly at the tv during that.) What did you think? Glad to hear you found a new walking buddy and someone you could coach. You'll love it. And I would think it would keep you motivated b/c you'll want to show that person how to stay motivated.

cwnhokie - sounds like a great trip. Hope you had a great time doing Everest!

Nikki and Margie - You two are workout machines! so excited that you have found each other and clicked.

Gretchen - You're moving.....that's what counts.

Last night I walked the dog for 2 miles and then did a 3.2 run after. It was gorgeous here, but the run just wasn't as easy as it should have been. I believe that I didn't drink enough water throughout the day and that my blood sugar was a little low. So lesson learned. Drink more (I believe this has gotten me into trouble many many times before)!!!!! Today's a rest day for me. Tomorrow another short run and Saturday 10 miles. :scared1:

Jane - I liked the episode overall. The "Sookie running around and whining to or bullying everyone about Bill" got old pretty fast. Oh man, Sam's dream was the best! I was like wth?! I knew why Sam was acting that way, but I couldn't figure out why Bill was. Then when he woke up, I was like "NOOOO!!!!!"

Enjoy your 10 miles on Saturday, which you will rock. Drink water!

As for the pictures, I know how you feel! When I saw mine, I was like "yikes!" I thought I was looking all cute and coordinated, but I just looked fat and tired! I loved the picture of me holding my medal at the end, though. Even though my hat is crooked and I'm not wearing any makeup and my eyes are squinched shut, I still look pretty darn proud!:thumbsup2

Just checking in! Did the Expedition Everest Challenge this past weekend and had a blast!!! It was a girls only weekend and went by too fast! Started Friday, we checked into POFQ and headed straight to the pool, it was HOT! We had planned on going to one of the parks on Saturday but it was to hot and humid so we just relaxed by the pool again before heading to the start line. I highly recommend this race. It was a lot of fun and I always enjoy night runs so being able to run through AK at night was a treat. The obstacle course and scavenger hunt was also a lot of fun and the after party kept us going until after midnight! At first I thought the price of the race was a little ridiculous but it's actually not all since you receive a park ticket good through December, a very nice tech running shirt, a gorgeous medal, and of course the after party including some of the rides in AK. I think the price was well worth it!! I'll be posting a race recap on my blog sometime this week :)

Happy training everyone!!! Next big race is a 1/2 marathon in November! In between is some 5K's and 10K's.

Katie - Looks like we have a little TB mini-group within our team!

You've been talking about being tired for a while now, maybe it's time to see a doctor? I know we joke about you and all your races, but maybe it's time for you to take a race break? Give your body some rest....

Shawna - So glad you had fun at the race, it sounds like a lot of fun! Looking forward to the recap.

I'm heading out tomorrow for a week at the beach and I'm so excited! It's been so long since I've taken a real vacation. For the past several years, it's been a long weekend here and a long weekend there, but this time it's 1 full week at a house on the beach. I can't wait to sleep in and sit on the porch with my Kindle and swim all day if I want. And walk on the beach, let's not forget that!

I have two more races left then I am done till September, so the end is near! :) It has been unseasonably hot this spring/summer, which has my brother and father both complaining about being tired as well. For now we are chalking it up to the heat because I have no other symptoms.

Andrea - Have a great time on your vacation. Relaxation sounds wonderful right about now. I'm a long weekender myself. But once a year I take a really long vacation and it's so great. Enjoy! Oh - and I sooooo find Sookie annoying (not just Sunday).

Katie - Excited to hear we have another TB fan here. Isn't is just so darn addicting? Hopefully your tired streak will end soon. Hang in there.

Shawna - I can't wait to hear more about the challenge. I did this last year as my first race ever and LOVED it. I like the changes they made to it this year. (except that it's in June). I really would love to see Disney make a longer Scavenger Hunt type challenge there....like The Amazing Race of Disney. I think that would be so awesome and I would definitely do that. (Hear that Disney, do that, please!!!!!!)

AFM - Got my 3 miles in tonight. It was easy peasy. Just a comfortable run. I didn't keep checking the clock. Probably could have kept going but was really content to be done. Tomorrow resting before Saturday's 10 miler. I'm freaking out again about the long run, but I'm sure I'll be fine.

Have a lovely one!

Andrea - Glad you found a walking buddy and someone to share your expertise with. A vacation at the beach, that sounds so great; relax and enjoy!
Shawna - So glad you had fun at Expedition Everest. I would have loved to do it. Timing was not right, though. Can't wait to read your recaps.
Katie - Hope you get your energy back ASAP. Take care.
Jane - The weather has been so comfortable lately, hasn't it?
I will be thinking of you this Saturday and sending along those good vibes :goodvibes for this continued good weather for your 10miler.
AFM - Walking these past couple of days have been so nice. Got in my 4m and totally enjoyed it.
The heat and humidity does not work for me at all, I've decided. With a day break here and there; and alternating pace and endurance has definitely paid off for me. Yesterday was great and I had my best time ever.

Gretchen- Good for you and Zumba! I have only done it a few times, back when I belonged to a gym and had a blast, and a great workout! Way to be to keep moving!

Sounds like you are finding a good groove!

Andrea- There is something I love about having a training schedule! I just makes getting out their easier for me when I don't have to think about what I need to do! Walking partners are the best! ENJOY your week at the beach!!! HOW FUN!

Jane- Sorry about your bad workout this week, but sometimes we need bad days to remind us of just how good the great days are! Where did you post pics from you 10K? I can't seem to find them.....

You WILL nail that long run tomorrow!

Shawna- How fun was that 5K!!! I think i'm going to add it to my wish list for the future!

AFM- I did great at the beginning of the week with 2 walks/crossfit, something fell apart Wed.... But I have been packing/running errends for my trip to Disney on Tuesday, so I'm not beating myself up over 2 missed workouts.

Got out with Margie this AM and did a good 3 mile walk! There were lots of down limbs and branches from a storm last night and the walk was more like an adventure hike! It was good though! 3 miles in 51 minutes! AND the best part was my shin pain was minimal!!!

I hope to cram in 2 more workouts before I leave on Tuesday. There is a new Yoga studio that opened up near me and I might check that out tomorrow. It is "hot" yoga so I expect to be dripping a ton when I'm done!

KEEP ON MOVING EVERYONE!

Gretchen - The heat and humidity doesn't work for me at all either. We should talk to someone about clearing that up for us. :)

Nikki - There was not a CHANCE that I was going to post those 10K pictures online. It's so unfortunate that I don't have time to stop and pose and fix myself for a minute before they snap those photos. Yup, I'm that girl. :)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!! It was super hot up here, but really enjoyable. My group run on Saturday turned out to be only 9 miles b/c we the half marathon group was scheduled for 9 while the marathoners did 10. Found out towards the end that I think I might have sports induced asthma. Sometimes I can't get a deep breath for a few seconds. Gonna go have that checked out this week so that i'm better safe than sorry. We also had a nutritionist come speak with us after the run. For starters, she made the best oatmeal coconut chocolate chip low sugar low fat energy cookies. Unbelievable!!! I can't wait to make them myself. I decided to sign up for her 1 hour consultation. It might really work out to work with someone on this b/c I'm not doing a very good job on my own. So we'll see.

Happy First Day of Summer Everyone!!!!!

Hi everyone... Maura said I could join the group, so I hope that's okay! I picked you guys because I'm a Star Wars fan and hoped that being linked with the name of the group would give me some motivation! Like I told her, I can't let down the Rebel Alliance :goodvibes

I decided a week or so ago that I want to be able to run a 5k next year. I NEVER run. It's not anything I've ever wanted to do, but my friends are runners and I'm older than they are. I've seen so many people posting about how they did the Couch to 5K program and how "if I can do it, anyone can". So... I'm hoping they're right! I'm inspired by the success stories, but terrified at the same time.

I walk a lot and I do yoga and pilates, but this whole running thing is new to me. And I'm not very good at it :cool1:

So I just wanted to say hi!!

:welcome: LuvCuteBoys. I'm sure you'll find a lot of support over hear in the alliance. I, too, am a C25K graduate. I started last may and trained for the everest challenge in the fall. This year I'm training for my first half. I was a true couch potato. Now I'm still shaped like a potato, but I LOVE to run. I hope you love it too!!!

Tonight I will go out for a short run in the heat and humidity. Crossing my fingers that I stay hydrated and motivated. Last night I started a broadway dance class here in town. It was so much fun. My friend and I couldn't stop laughing. We're so terrible but we keep on trying. Lots of ballet, jazz and modern dance used in this class. And I'm more like hyacinth the dancing hippo from Fantasia. Nothing dainty here. Good news is we'll continue with it for the next 10 week b/c it really was fun and I'm counting it as cross training.

Later Rebels....

Thank you both :goodvibes

This is going to be a long road... LOL. Luckily, I have plenty of time until the event I want to run. I'm working my way up to starting Week One of C25K, but I'm not quite there. I've been going to the track and walking/running, but it's definitely the timeframe in the program... but I'm okay with that. I haven't run since... oh, high school?? And even then I probably didn't do much running! That was over 20 yrs ago.

I'm an expert walker though :thumbsup2

It's pretty humid here, too, and I don't like it. I'm a winter person. Summer and I don't get along very well. But as long as I keep at it, I'll be happy.

I hope you're enjoying your dance class, wdwprncess77! Sounds fun!

BUT...I got a trainer here in Cali. I bought a new body bugg. I have 9 weeks until the Disneyland half. And I get to do my training runs around disneyland. WOO HOO. Things are looking up.

RENThead- I assume that moving to Cali means you got the new job!!! CONGRATS!!! What I wouldn't give to live near a theme park!

I hope everyone had a good time while I was down at the WORLD!

We came back with all of the 13 students we went down with!:)

I got in a designated walk 1 morning, but not the others! Too buys shuffling kids around! And talk about HOT and HUMID!!! If you took more than 5 steps outside you started dripping with sweat! Had fun waking the 10 minutes from our room at CSR to the lobby!! (NOT!!) Don't think I will be staying there again unless I pay for a preferred room! It was such a long walk and barley any shade!

Sat we did go to Harry Potter! It was AMAZING!!!! We had so much fun riding the Forbidden Journey and walking around Hogsmead! Butterbeer is amazing, a really sweet treat! I had it frozen which I hear is the best way to have it in the summer!

Back into the routine hopefully starting today, if not, tomorrow!!

Keep it up Rebels!

Jane - Thanks for the vacation well-wishes! We had an amazing time. I kept saying, I'm so glad I'll be here for a week.

You said you're still shaped like a potato!:rotfl: You're so funny!

A broadway dancing class sounds like fun! kepp us updated on how you're progressing.

Nikki - Thanks for the fun-wishes as well! I did not follow my training schedule exactly, but I did lots of walking. We walked everywhere, to the beach, to the pool, to the restaurants, to the shops, to the ice cream parlor every night...:rolleyes1

You have a great attitude, about the having bad days to remind us of the good ones and how far we've come, and about how you're not beating yourself up over missed workouts. I wish a lot more people had that kind of attitude about getting healthy. It's so easy to say I missed a workout, might as well give up, or I ate so bad yesterday, there's no point in staying on the diet.

Did you get in a hot yoga workout?

Glad you came home with all the kids you went with! That's always a good goal to have. Did you have to beat the crowds away at HP? I saw a picture of the thousands of people waiting to get in. I'm glad it was worth it!

LuvCuteBoys - Welcome to the team! We're glad you've joined us. Even though you chose us because of the name, we'll make you feel right at home! And if you do let us down, we will turn our rebel forces on you with such swift vengeance, you will not see us coming. Just kidding, of course! Or am I...? ;)

You will do awesome on the C25K! I've never done it, but I've seen lots pf people here, and in real life, have success with it. And if Katie (K80K) endorses it, it must be alright! She's our race guru.

I'm like you - I hate hot weather. I would much rather be cold than hot. That's the one thing keeping me from moving to Florida. Well, that and money...:rolleyes1

What is the event you want to run in?

Please feel free to ask questions, make comments or just chat, anytime. We're looking forward to getting to know you. Also, love the screen name!

Pat - Congrats on the move! So jealous that you get to live near the Mouse! Love my bugg, well worth the money. Not only is your race in Disney, you get to train there! Not fair!

Thanks everyone

Yes, I got the promotion and will be Head Coach (store manager) at one of our Nike stores in SoCal. I also stocked up on 3 new pairs of running shoes and a couple fun shirts to work out in! Woo Hoo!

I picked my living location with a purpose. 12 minutes from work. 17 minutes from the gym I like to train at. 18 minutes to Disneyland. :cheer2:

I just set up my bodybugg and put it on. This is what I used the first time I lost my 50 pounds and I look at this as an investment in my life as well. My goal is to knock out 2 incredible months of getting back into the run of things and hopefully run the half close to what I weighed last year. But more importantly, just getting back into running and doing the things I love.

Now about that hot yoga.....:scared1: Definitely not for me. I picture those shows where someone is suppose to be doing the Flying Hawk and ends up doing the Gassy Dog. :rotfl:

Have a great week everyone and best wishes for a safe and healthy Fourth (or First)

I have not gotten to the Hot Yoga class yet. They are holding a workshop on July 18 and there will be NO heat just instruction. I think I will start with this first since I have never done Yoga before!

Pat- Congrats on being in the middle of the things you love! I don't know about the "Bugg" you are talking about. Could you or someone else fill me in?

I got back into the swing of things this morning. I did a 40 minute walk. It was a slow one because my shin issues have returned. It feels different than the "normal" shin splints. To me it feels as if the shin muscle is weak and I need to strengthen it. At least I don't have that "muscle pulling away from the bone feeling" that I have had in the past. I'll have to pick some of the PTs brains today!

disney_mommy

The gassy dog!:lmao: What exactly would that pose look like, I wonder...?

The BodyBugg (http://bodybugg.com/) is a great tool that helps you keep track of your calories burned all day, even while sleeping, walking around the house, etc. Then you figure out exactly how many calories you need to eat to lose or maintain your weight. I highly recommend it.

Nikkie, that non-hot instructional class sounds like a good idea. I imagine trying to learn the poses for the first time would be hard of you're sweating and slipping all over.

Sorry your shin issues have returned, but glad it doesn't seem to be as bad as before. Strengthening your sjins should help a bunch. Hope you get some good tips from the PTs.

Hi Rebels!

Been quiet this past week. I cut the bottom of my foot last Tuesday night (trying to wrestle the dog to get in the bath tub :confused3) and haven't been able to run for a week. I really miss running and can't wait to get back to it this evening. It's so hot and humid up here, but I'm hoping it'll cool down before I'm ready to hit the road tonight.

Andrea - Welcome Back! Glad to hear you had a great vacation.

Nikki - Glad you survived your trip and brought all the kids back. I want to hear more about HP. I can't wait to go in October. It's killing me.

Pat - Congrats on your new move! Enjoy the fabulous weather and location. I'm so jealous beyond words. I wanna move!! (I'm totally whining as I write this.)

Skipped the dance class last night in hopes that my foot will be good to go tonight for a short run. Can't wait to get back out there.

Talk soon.

The event I'm looking to do is our Corporate Challenge here in Buffalo... I did it this year, but walked the whole thing. I wasn't able to keep up with my friends, and the dumb thing is that I just don't have a very long stride. I look ridiculous when I try to walk at their speed because of my height. I'm not into the power-walking thing, so I decided to give running a try.

We'll see how it goes. Today was a great day to go out and run, but this weekend looks brutal :scared1: I absolutely hate the heat. So that hot yoga class you guys are talking about is definitely out of the question!!! I've heard good things about it though. Bikram Yoga is what it's called, I think. I would pass out. There's a reason why I go to WDW in January :goodvibes

Hi there!
I haven't checked in to the boards lately but I see you are in the Buffalo area?
My husband and I grew up in the Niagara Falls & Wheatfield areas. We are visiting his family next month and signed up for a 5K so we get a run in during our visit:
St. Christopher Summerfest 5K

If you are up for it, (we would love to meet another Rebel!) you could join us!
Let me know what you think!

Hello fellow Rebels!

I am a new member to the team and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Stacie and I began running about 4 months ago and I love it! Four months ago I was struggling to run 1 min. and now my longest run has been 6 miles. I generally run 4 days a week. 3.5 or 4 miles with a long run on Saturdays. I somehow convinced my husband to do the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Relay with me! So here I am, looking forward to our adults only Oct. 1 -4 trip to WDW to run a race!

:welcome: Stacie!!! I'm doing the wine n dine half as well. I'm sure you'll find some great support on our team.

Barb - I love how you jumped right in and encourages LuvCuteBoys to come join you. That's such great team spirit.

I was able to get back out Tuesday night. Foot didn't bother me at all. I was so happy to be running again. I'm going to try and get in either a quick 30 minute (although hoping for more tonight) after work tonight. But I'm heading to see Eclipse tonight. It has the potential of being really good or being one of the funniest movies I've seen all year. It's a good mid-week vampire fix. Saturday is only a 5 miler this week. So it's a great week for me to get back out there after my minor set back.

Hope everyone has a safe and super fun holiday weekend!!!!
