Happy June, Goofs. My April/May miles is 74.5. I'm still trying to stay out of the infirmary by eating better and maintaining a higher level of physical activity, so June should be a better month.:thumbsup2

May was a pretty lack lust month for me. Only 65 miles of running and 25 miles of other activities. I only worked out 14 days out of the month so definaltey not a high point. I'm starting my marathon training program so my miles should be going up along with my consistency.

I did do a 5K race this last Saturday, but it was just to pace my friend who is trying to get below 25 minutes. He just missed it, but did get a PR by dropping 2 minutes off his time from November.

Hi Goofs

Got my May miles totalled up - 239.22. Most of that came from the marathon and the trail ultra - I took it really easy the rest of the month.

232 miles for me--combo of running biking and XT. I feel like it should be more, but there are a few "I am not doing anything" days!

Happy June, all. DS graduate from high school on Sunday and DD is home for the week, so we have a full house.

Todd Stay healthy!

Jason"Just" under 25 minutes! That is PR territory for me.

I totally wimpeed out on doing a tri last Saturday.....I am so disappointed in myself. Plus, I could have just gone to root for Carrie and DH Scott, but didn't even do that. Shhhh, don;t tell, I feel soooo guilty.

Started the C25K at work- one drop out!
We have four ladies who are going out at lunch and doing the program! They call me "Coach" which is pretty funny! One is even going to run her first 5K on the 12th with me! I am so proud of all of them. We are even doing lots of outreach with the homeless populations- lots on the bike path. We see many familiar faces and since we are a group- not one says "I can't go today, I don't feel like it today"....you know, most of the things we tell each other when we really don't feel like doing much!

My goal this month...get my totals in (for Feb, March, April, May- head hanging in shame!)
If anyone wants to donate to the clinic and help me get an exercise program- please contact me. Gently used workout clothes and sneakers would be most appreciated. I will also be working with my running club and our local running store to get donations started.
Thanks in advance!

Ok, it's my first time posting totals, so let me know if I did this correctly!

Total: 129 miles

76 walking miles
27 running miles (just started training for the wine/dine half, so these numbers should go up considerably in the coming months)
26 miles from cross training (398 minutes @ 1 mile per 15 minutes, right?)

I don't think I ever posted how far from WDW I am. According to MapQuest, I'm 1178 miles away.

Hi Goofs.

Sorry to be so absent this month. I've been suffering a general lack of motivation lately. I'm hoping to remedy that during June. Just 3 weeks till the start of summer, I'm hoping to be in good racing shape by then. The only races on my calendar are a 4th of July 5K, and possibly a sprint Tri in mid-July. Depends on if I can get myself back to the pool for some training.

My May miles are 116.1.

Joanne: I have a bunch of old running shoes I'd love to get rid of. I'll let you know the next time I'm headed to Nashua and maybe I can get them to you.

Have a great day everyone.

I've gone back to catch up on the May thread.

Dawn: Congrats on your 5K and for getting in below your goal.

Angie: Good job on your race. I imagine the smoke wasn’t helping your respiratory problem. Hope you are recovered soon.

Ashleigh: Congrats on completing the first half of your move. Good luck with the second half. It’s great that you are able to get out to run while in transition. Enjoy the change of scenery.

Jason: I think you’ll adjust to the heat soon enough. Good job getting back on the wagon. It’s amazing how quickly your fitness level drops when you stop running. Just stick with it and you’ll be back in top form soon.

Laurie: Glad you were able to sign up for DL half. I’m sure it will be loads of fun. Hope you enjoyed your trip to the races.

Jeanne: Good job for getting out there when you’re not feeling motivated. I think most people go thru that. I know I did for the month of May. Do you have any races scheduled over the next few months? Sometimes a race is just what you need to get you motivated to get out and do the training. You can schedule some 5K’s to do in place of your speed workouts. Nothing like running strong in a race to show you all the progress you’ve made thus far. Good luck.

Todd: Congrats on your first real race. Best of luck in staying healthy.

Rich: Great job on your trail ultra. I think 27.9 miles is plenty to have done in the mud. Those trails do look a bit slick in the video. Do you have any close-ups in the video?

Steve: I hope your daughter’s first race was awesome. Hope your race went well too.

Maura: Congrats to your son on graduation. Your May mileage sounds pretty impressive to me, even with the not doing anything days.

Suzanne: You sound as if you’re very busy with vacation planning. Hope it’s going well.

Jeannette: Hope the legs have recovered. Hope you are enjoying the Garmin. Good luck with your 5K this weekend.

Hey Goofs!

OK total miles for May were 53, June should be a lot better since I'm getting out every day now.

The good news is I'm under the 15 minute mile pace walking so at least I won't get kicked off the course at the Everest Challenge:lmao:

Only a week to go before we start the drive down to FL. DS doesn't know it yet but I entered him in the kids race so we'll have matching bibs!

Happy June to everyone! Summer weather has made its appearance here in Upstate NY with lots of heat and humditiy. It's just helping me get ready for our Disney trip on the 24th, right?:rotfl2:

I logged 109 miles in May. Still having some motivation problems esp for my longer runs. But trying to stay focused. Thanks everyone for the encouragement!

Cindy: I've been trying to find a couple of 5Ks to fit into my schedule for motivational purposes but haven't had much luck.

We are down to a 21 days till our Disney trip....:woohoo: Just can't wait.:yay:

Everyone stay cool, hydrated and run safely this summer!

I have a request from a lovely homeless woman...
She is able to get a free membership to our local YMCA but she needs a size 16 swim suit. I will gladly pay for shipping and handeling if someone has a gently one that is no longer in use. She can also use a size 9-10 wide shoe. She has really severe OA in her right knee and her only pair of shoes are croc flipflops.
Once again, I will pay for S and H if need be!

Went out again with the ladies! 3 miles plus on the bike path!

Hey Goofs,

We had a great time at our camping trip but the highlight was easily running the 1K with my 4yo daughter and then running the 5K with my wife. It was my daughter's first race and I can't tell you how proud I am of her.

She lined up with all the other kids (8 and under) and took off at the start. I told her not to go out too fast as she is a sprinter and goes so fast she trips easily. She has also never run nearly this far at one time.

She started at a good pace and kept looking back at me smiling which made me feel great. I took off after her before she left my sight. I ran the rest with her but occasionally ran ahead so I could get some pictures and video of her.

The course was pretty hilly and she did have to walk a few times but finished strong. When we got back to the finish line, the 5Kers were already lined up for their start. When they saw all 41" of her running in her little pink matching moisture-wicking shirt and shorts, they all applauded her and rooted her on for a strong finish. They were blocking the finish line and she didn't know what to make of it. Then it looked like the parting of the Red Sea as they all got out of her way so she could cross.

The 5Kers took off after we got through the crowd and I gave her a well-earned water bottle. She had no problem getting into her jogger and enjoying her water, a granola bar and some fruit snacks and didn't make a peep as she was pretty tired. We started a few minutes late and we caught up with my wife and ran the rest of the 5K together.

We just put DD's medal and bib on her wall tonight for her to show off. I'll post some pictures when I get them off the camera. She was so cute!

My mileage for the month was 119.5.

I hope everyone had a great May and Memorial Weekend.

Good Morning Goofs.

Steve: Congrats to your DD. That is awesome that she got a medal.

Jeanne: That Disney trip is coming soon. Lucky you!!

Randy: Congrats for getting speedier. Have a safe trip to Disney and enjoy EE.

Joanne: I probably have a swimsuit for your friend. I don't ever plan on it fitting me again. My old running shoes will probably fit her too. PM me with your address and I can mail them, or if you can wait until next week I'm headed to Nashua for a shopping trip.

Have a great day everyone.

Hey my fellow Goofs!
Hope summer is treating everyone well.

My May total is 78.28.
38.28 miles running
and
40.00 miles walking
(The walking total is from a trip to WDW the last week in May.)

We went and used the last days on our annual pass. Took off when the kids got off the bus on their last day of school. We stayed at Bay Lake Tower and it was AWESOME. I booked a garden view, but we had a view of the castle and Space Mountain. We could see Wishes and the music came on over the TV in the room. I don't think that room will EVER be topped!

Since we got back I've been insanely busy with my oldest doubling up on her year round and summer swim team practices and still getting my youngest off to her gymnastics. I'm still managing to get in my runs before they wake up, but needless to say my computer time hasn't been as much.

I haven't forgotten my Goofs!
I officially start my marathon training in a week. I was happy to see we get a free day in the parks if we complete it. DH and I weren't planning on any parks that trip so that was a nice surprise. I called and extended our DVC stay by one night.

OK, off to cook DH's birthday dinner!

Hugs!

Oh my gosh Steve! I have tears reading your story. How wonderful that you are instilling a healthy lifestyle for your DD! I sometimes forget that motivation in doing this running stuff - my parents were not active and guess what? I haven't really been up until now either! I want it to be different for my kids!

I'm doing another 5K in June, actually on my DD's 3rd bady. They also have a 3-5 yr old 50 yard dash that we're signing the kiddos up for. DD & DS can both do their first race together!

Hooray!

I'm glad you liked my story. It was a great day. That's fantastic you are signing your kids up for the 50 yard dash. I wasn't active as my parents never were either. It took me 33 years and nearly 250lbs before I finally decided to get healthy.

My daughter has been to some of my races to cheer me on but never talked about wanting to run one until she was in my home office a few weeks ago and saw my medals on the wall. She asked if she could have one and I said that I earned those by running races and that I couldn't give her one and that she would have to run a race if she wanted one of her own. That was all she needed to hear! I can't wait until she is big enough for her first Disney 5K!

I never really participated in sports as a kid but we are having her try everything to see what she likes. She's already participated in gymnastics, soccer, swim lessons, ballet and will be starting T-ball next month. It has done wonders for her confidence and social skills.

Now if I could only get her to prefer vegetables over candy! :rotfl:

Randy Have a great time at Disney--I'm sure you'll do great at the EE race. And fingers crossed that the weather is 100% better than it was last year for that race (no monsoon!).

Nicky Great job with the miles. Sounds like your training is going well. Wine and Dine is so tempting, but I think DH would not look kindly on going to WDW 4 weeks after going to DL!

Cindy What tri are you considering? I am not at all tuned in to races in my home state (other than certain biggies!)

Jeanne Habe a great time at WDW. MY DS is going to be down there around then...haven't "invited myself" along, though!

Steve So great for your DD. Hope she finds her passion in one of the sports she is trying. And if it's running, all the better. As my DH says, it's one sport that you can always do by yourself and carry with you throughout your life.

Shan Glad you like Bay Lake Towers. I have read some mixed revies on it. Did you get to go to the lounge at the top? Is it still restricted to members staying on points?

MrsD Hope your DD enjoys the Dash. It is neat when they do that for the kids.

As for me, graduation for DS on Sunday so things are getting hectic. Had the honors convocation last night, where they acknowledge academic achievement by the kids. Mom and one sister are flying in today. And the senior all-night party is Sunday, and I am involved with cleanup (long, painful story) which means I will be working from 1-6 am. Have to hit the setup this afternoon too.

Better go get my run in....probably won't be doing much else for training this weekend!

Steve - Your daughter is adorable! Congratulations to you both!

Maura - Congrats to your son and to you for surviving it. You have what, 4 years to plan for the next one? :)

Jeanne - Have a great time! Have a Dole Whip for me. :thumbsup2
Randy - you too...and good luck at the race!

I have been having some major motivation issues. This happens with everything I try. About 3 months in, I get "bored" and my motivation plummets. This time, I think it is less about being bored and more about getting discouraged. My adductor muscles have continued to give me problems and has really affected my ability to do much. I tried using the stationary bike at the fitness center at work and it was pretty good; I think I will do that on my breaks for a while instead of walking. Keep that impact down. Also, it seems like my runs are on the extremes lately. Either they are awesome or horrible. No in-betweens.

Well, I am trying to push through this phase and my DH is doing his best to help. I keep reminding myself that this is a mental block that I have to get past. I am feeling really good today, and I took the morning off to go to Curves. Hopefully the rest of the week will be as good. :)

Steve - she is just too cute! She definitely looks like she enjoyed herself - I forsee many more races in her future.

Maura - take the rest. You earned it. Maybe you should be awarded bonus miles for that all-night party!

Jeanette - Motivation can be a real challenge. Maybe a small reward of some kind? It doesn't have to be huge, but maybe a new book, going out to a movie, something like that. (Yes, I give myself rewards from time to time. It does help, knowing that, if I can get through the week, I can get a new book from my favorite author, or some new paints, or whatever.) Keep up the good work though!

As for me - yesterday marked the beginning of the end. The four of us (DW, DS, DD, and me) went for a few laps around the block. DS rode his bike, and DW biked along with DD in the bike trailer. I ran. And DS kept racing up ahead of me. Sure, I could catch him now. . . but by the end of the summer, with him getting in a lot more practice, and a bigger bike - he's going to leave me in the dust. I'm a little sad, to be sure . . . but I am also very proud of him.

airtime247

Maura - Congratulations on getting through a graduation. While enjoyable, it can still be very stressful.

Jeanette - Best of luck on getting through your funk. I wish I had some advice. I'm going through one as well. Maybe change it up a bit? I have been so busy at work that I haven't been able to sneak out at lunchtime to the gym for a quick workout. My small gym which I used to love is now turning more into a rehabilitation center and is a lot more crowded. I just don't like the vibe there anymore. My spin teacher I really liked is opening up a new location so we won't be seeing her at least through summer. These are all just excuses but they seem to have been enough to keep me out of the gym.

I stepped on the scale this morning and it wasn't pretty! I think I did a good job of kick-starting myself today as I've been very good diet-wise and took my first pilates class (which I really liked) at a gym near my house and then got in a short run. I've been doing repairs on our tent trailer the rest of the day so at least I have been really active.

Rich - They sure do grow up quickly. How old is your DS? Has he been off training wheels for long? My DD is still on training wheels and too slow for us to run or bike with.

We got him off training wheels last spring, I believe. But he didn't get as much bike time over the summer as I would have liked, so his steering is still pretty wobbly. He'll outgrow his current bike by the end of August, and the next size up will definitely let him outpace me.

Happy Summer, Goofs!

Steve-Your daughter is too cute! She looks like she had fun! I am doing a 10K in August and there is a Toddler Trot along with it that I was thinking of signing Colby up for!

I am flying high right now for many reasons. First, we finally have internet at our new house!! Yeah! I am connected to the world again! Second, we are all moved in...just not all unpacked...but that will come, I am sure!:rotfl2: Also, there are only 4 more days of school left until Summer Vacation! And, most importantly and the thing that is carrying me through all the craziness of the last month....We leave for WDW in 7 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Things have been crazy with the move and the end of the school year paperwork that has been keeping me busy at work, but it is making the time fly by. I have been getting some runs in, but my dance show is this weekend, so I have been taking it a little easy so I don't get hurt before that. I have some great hills around my new house and I did a very hilly 2.5 miles yesterday. I am excited to be able to vary my runs. If I run one way, it is almost completely flat. If I go the other way, there is a huge hill to go down and back up. And if I go a third way, I can do a little of both. Then, when I get my milage up, I can put a little of everything in my runs. It should keep me entertained!

Hello Goofs! Sorry I've been MIA, so much going on here. Tomorrow is the last day of school and I will officially have a high school sophomore, I don't know where the time has gone. I am already crying that in 3 short years, I will be sitting at her high school graduation. Vacation is just around the corner and that has taken up alot of time but will be so worth it. I've also had some major health stuff going on but made a deal with my doctor that I wanted to wait until after vacation to have surgery. He agreed so the day after we get back, I go in for my pre-op appointment. On a positive note, I will be signing up for the Wine and Dine 1/2 tomorrow so I have something to look forward to and to make myself get up and walk!

Steve-your daughter is so cute and looks like she really enjoyed her race and medal. My daughter walked a 5K with me last year and said she was happy to wait at the finish line for me from then on.

Joanne-did you get a swimsuit for the homeless lady that needed one yet? If not, I don't have one but will gladly contribute some $$ to buy her one. Please let me know.

Everyone else-keep training and be strong, sounds like there are alot of fall races that everyone is looking forward to and I can't wait to hear all about them!!

I have May miles from disneymomma09, pungodingy, jeanigor, skinsfan76, sahdad, jmasgat, froggygrrrl, cindylou, tutter99, disaholic's, airtime247, lenshanem, roselark and myself. If I missed your post, sorry, please post again.

Maura, we did go to the lounge up top one night, but we actually had a better view of Wishes from our room, plus we had the music that was on the TV. :woohoo: It appeared that it is still for members only who are staying there on points. We had to show our room key and were actually escorted to the elevator. I didn't really like it up there cause I'm extremely short and the wall came up just high enough I had to kinda stand on my toes to see over. My youngest daughter couldn't see over the wall very well, either. Stinks being short! :sad2:

Got in a little over 12 miles this week. This morning I ran 6.20 miles, finally back to running a 10K without walk breaks, but man am I ever slow! Apparently gaining a bunch of weight can really slow you down, who knew? :lmao:

Took a pretty big set back yesterday. Confirmed a signifigant calf strain/partial tear today. Puts my running on hold for a little bit. I'll be switching to 100% swimming as of today. Is there anything else I can be doing to maintain my fitness level and increase healing time? I am already wearing a compression bandage, have heal lifts in my shoes, icing a few times a day, and using our Physical Therapist at work to increase blood flow with a laser.

Ashleigh Congrats on being all moved in and have a great trip to WDW.

Shan Congrats on the milestone of reaching 6.2 again, and here's hoping you start to regain some of your speed.

Jason pixiedust: on your calf. Is biking out of the question? Rowing? Elliptical? (of course this all assumes you belong to a gym). I hope it doesn't keep you out of action for too long. Sounds like your new neighborhood witll really be great for your running.

Did a bike workout and Vinyassa yoga last nigh and a run and Hatha yoga today--I am pooped! But a nice gin and tonic will be a reward for the hard work.

Got in some mile intervals today. Half mile of recovery, full mile at speed. Forgot how hard mile repeats were, compared to quarters or halves.

Ran in my new shoes yesterday--same model so nothing exciting to report, but I can tell I am still going to have the same callus/blister thing going on. ....busy watching World Cup--but at least I was on the bike trainer while doing it. Ran in my new shoes yesterday--same model so nothing exciting to report, but I can tell I am still going to have the same callus/blister thing going on. I may try to cobble together something to keep my big toes from rubbing. Now let's see, where's the duct tape? ;)

How about some running toe socks? I just heard about them on the Running to Disney podcast. Could be worth a look.

I went out on a run with a group at my local running store. It was a rainy day so the turn out was sparse. Since half of the group was girls from the HS cc team I figured I'd be a back of the packer. Mmmmmm hmmmmmm. After 3 blocks and a route turn they were gone. It was a 5 mile run and I'm not quite up to that yet, so I made up my own route and tried to push myself as if one of them might see me at any moment. I actually did pretty good!

And then I treated myself to a new pair of shoes! :cool1:

I have a 5K this weekend, should I wear the new shoes or the old? The old are giving me heal pain but it could be foolish to run in shoes worn once (I'll get a easy run in before Sat).

Hey Goofs!!! I am super pumped right now because in 36 hours I will be at WDW!!! Yippie! That, plus today was the last day of school, so now I am off for the summer!

I am loving our new house and our new location. Yesterday I went out and did 4.5 miles. I was very proud of myself as that is the longest run I have had since I started running again! Tonight I did a short run, but I did the hill near our house. It is 1/2 mile down, 1/2 mile up, then I turn around and do it all over again! I already felt like it was easier than the first time I did it.

I don't know how much I will be checking in while we are gone, but I have set a goal to run at least 3 days while on vacation. That seemed like a pretty reasonable number considering how much walking you do at WDW!

I did a short 2 mile run yesterday to test out my calf since I've been pain free for four days now and it went great. I felt some tightness, but didn't have any pain. I'm still swimming everyday, but will start to add some runs in and rebuilding my base. Hopefully this doesn't set me too far back.

I can say that I remember why I was glad I was done with swimming after college. While I love the workout and it is a totally different exhaustion level, I really don't care for all the pool time.

Maura, don't you also wear the Progrid Rides? So how do you like the new model? I still have 2s.
My DH wears the toe socks and likes them. His toes rub together and bleed.

DisneyMomma09, congrats on your run and have fun at Disney!

SkinsFan76, my daughter swims and they LIVE at the pool. It is amazing to me!

Started week one of my Galloway marathon training. I'm running the two short runs and gonna do a R/W for the long one after the Peachtree. Knee popped on both my short runs this week. Trying not to worry. The Peachtree is coming up soon...

Hey all. Sounds like everyone has been busy busy busy.

We'll be leaving for our WDW trip on Thursday. Wow, just can't wait! :cool1:This afternoon all us girls on the trip are going and getting our toes done. It will be fun!

Went for my last long run before vacation. It was my first time ever doing 14.5 miles. I'm proud of myself for a change because I actually don't feel too bad. Going out at 7am makes a huge difference, it's still HOT when you get back at a couple of hours later, but the humidity is not quite as oppressive.

Everyone have a great week and I'll let you know if I actually get any runs in around POR and OKW. My plan is to do three 3 milers if possible. We'll see how it works out.:rolleyes1 LOL

Not taking a computer on vacation so I'll check in on ya'll on July 4th.

Checking in. Ran a 5K yesterday before DD's 3rd birthday party! Boy it was a LONG day. Good news was because I had so much to do I kept moving all day and have NO soreness and I slept like a sack of rocks!

I shaved 6 seconds off my last race time a few weeks ago and felt stronger the whole way through. Now I get to break in my new shoes!

Yeah for the six seconds!

We're training away for the DL 1/2 here. We've got 6.5 miles on for this weekend. I went in Fleet Feet and bought a Stick on Monday. Who knew what I had been missing! :yay:

Dawn Congrats on your race and your time! Sorry you didn't get an answer on which shoes to wear--what did you end up going with? I would have gone against the grain and said run with the new shoes. It was a 5k, so short enough to (hopefully( not cause any problems.

Jason I hear you about the swimming. I am definitely trying to change my attitude about doing it. The mini-clinic I went to on Saturday has me at least believing I am not a dreadful swimmer, so I am hoping that helps!

Jeanne Have a great trip! My sister and BIL will also be at OKW that same time. (Likely sitting by a quiet pool drinking white wine (beer for BIL))

Shan The Ride 3's are largely OK, but I think they narrowed the toe box a little (visually, it seems that way), which doesn't help me.

Lauren I'm also training for the DL half, although I have been using my plan to build up some mileage. Only a couple months to go!

So as for the blister saga....I have toe sox (don't help). My problem is not so much rubbing as it is pressure (I think). Went yesterday to try on a wide width pair of my Rides--who knew! They seemed to have more room, but I don't know if it's in a plce that will help my big toes (hard to explain) But since I just bought the others, I was reluctant to spend another $95 to get more shoes. I ended up buying some "toe caps"--silicon piece that fits over your toe. I'm going to give that a try. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll bite the bullet on shoes.

Off to the gym to do some speedwork.

Hello Goofs. Sorry to be gone for so long. Way too much end of school year activity. Unfortunately, I still have to work during the summer, so it won’t seem very different now that school is out.

Maura: Do you think going a ½ size larger in your shoe might help? My running shoes are 2 sizes larger than my regular shoes. I needed to do that to preserve my 2nd toe nail. At first I was reluctant since my shoes are big enough to begin with, but they are very comfortable to run in. Congrats to your DS for graduation. The Tri I was thinking of doing is called the Appleman. It is in Littleton, the town in which I live. I’ve decided to pass on it this year since I’m just not in shape for it. We have been enjoying World Cup as well. I can’t say I’ve actually sat to watch a game, but it’s always on in the background as I’m doing other stuff.

Lauren: Glad you like the stick. It really does work wonders.

Dawn: Congrats on shaving 6 seconds off.

Jeanne: Congrats on doing 14.5 miles. That’s quite an accomplishment. Enjoy your trip to WDW.

Shan: Hope the marathon training goes well. Good luck with your knee. Glad you had such a great trip to WDW.

Jason: Glad the calf is improving.

Ashleigh: Glad you are all moved in and loving your new location. Hope the trip to WDW was great.

Rich: Good job with the mile repeats. That’s a great workout. The real end of it will be when your DS can beat you in a foot race. My son is 8 and that moment is coming quickly.

Suzanne: Hope your health issues turn out OK. Where did you decide to go for vacation?

Steve: I hope you are able to get back into a groove at the gym. Your DD looked so proud of her medal. What a cutie.

Jeanette: I hope your motivational issues have become a thing of the past. Just keep looking at all the progress you’ve made. Hopefully that will inspire you to keep going.

I’ve been struggling myself with motivation. I think a lot of it has to do with having too much to do lately. Now that summer is here I hope things slow down a bit. I did manage to increase the number of days I’ve run. I ran 5 days the first week in June then 4 times each of the next 2 weeks. So far it hasn’t led to an injury. Although I do seem extra tired. Right now my LR is only 6 or 7 and I’d like to get that up to 10. I need to be a bit more consistent with my speed workouts. I tend to skip that one more than any of the other runs. I think I would be more consistent with it if I just did a tempo run or fartlek rather than trying to motivate myself to do speedwork on the TM.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Maura - Oh, no on the Rides! I liked the big toe box. That's a bummer. How's the silicon thingie working? :confused3

Jeanne - Hoping you're having fun on your trip! :goodvibes

Cindy - I'm tired, too! My runs have been brutal this week. I feel like I can barely move. I don't know what is wrong with me! Maybe we need more coffee? :surfweb:

Mrs D - Congrats on the 15!!! That is so awesome. Maybe you can send me some of your motivating vibes? Cause I think I found what you lost! :lmao:

Peachtree is coming up soon. Hoping to run it with no walk breaks and then I'm switching to Galloway for my full training. Been feeling like a slug and my knee is bothering me. Trying not to worry... :rolleyes1

Staying busy with oldest's swim, doing summer league and year round. I'll be glad when summer league is over! Youngest's gymnastics right now is more of me just being a taxi, but swim requires more work on my part.

Hope everyone has a good weekend! :grouphug:

Good evening Goofs!! Back from vacation and trying to get back to normal. We decided on Hawaii and it was even more amazing then I ever thought it would be. I was able to get on the treadmill at the hotel for 3 of the 8 mornings we were there and we walked everywhere and climbed Diamondhead! Happy to report that I came home at the same weight as I was the day before we left!! Only downside, no sleep for any of us on the overnight flight home and only an hour layover in Atlanta was cut 20 minutes short because of a problem in Hawaii so we literally ran through the Atlanta airport to get the connecting flight.

Bought a small flat screen TV today to mount on the wall above my treadmill. They had them on the treadmills in the hotel and it made the time go by much faster and made me want to stay on longer.

I am registered for the Wine and Dine 1/2 so let the training begin!!! Anyone else coming down for the race?

Stay cool Goofs, its in the upper 90's here.

Hope everyone in the NE and New England are safe, heard about the earthquake and terrible storms.

Thanks Shan. It was a dream for me also and on my top 3 things to do in life. The vacation was even more amazing in person than I ever thought it could be. I've posted lots of pictures on facebook with more to come, facebook takes forever to load them so I've been posted about 30 at a time.

Cindy I run a 1/2 size up--which works. But I may see what going another 1/2 size up will do. Hope you find your summer running rhythmn soon.

Dawn Congrats on the weight loss!

Shan I emailed Saucony and here's what they emailed back....

"In answer to your question, the Progrid Ride 3 does have a re-designed upper which may cause it to visually appear to be more narrow. However, the last has not changed. On the other hand, the forefoot cushioning has been increased (thickened) which is probably what is causing the shoe to feel like a more snug fit."

Suzanne Hawaii! Wow---I still haven't been yet. Definitely need to make it over there. Sounds like you had a great time.

Time to go tot he gym and swim. Bought some swim paddles yesterday. Another toy to play with. Hope it helps my swim stroke improve.

Hi Goofs,

Today was the first run day of my marathon training plan. Good thing I get to slow down the runs, since I have never done a ton of summer runnig and I definitely need to adjust.

Ran with my new Garmin on Sunday. Should be very helpful to this pace-challenged runner!

Hope everyone is doing well. Can you believe it's almost July?

Nice work on day 1 of marathon training. A bunch of gals I've been running with just bought Garmins - they are huge! I hadn't realized how big they are.

I can't believe it's almost July! It's a beautiful 75 degree day here in Chicago; we don't see enough of these mild summer days. Can't wait to go for a run this evening. I love how I now look forward to running. I'm really only about 6 months into 'being a runner' and I am enjoying the change that happening in my life. Running is fun - who knew? (Well I didn't before).

Morning Goofs!

Wow! Things are still crazy. I am starting to think life will never get "back to normal". :scared1:

Things are going great. I have started back on the treadmill, trying to work back up to where I was at the end of May. What should have been 2 weeks off from running ended up being nearly 4 becausee of motivation issues. :(

I am back in the groove now. I am finally over the plateau I have been on for nearly 2 months and I have also obliterated the 240 mark. For years now, I have not been able to get under 240. I am now at 237 :cool1:

Also, DH and I have decided to become vegetarians. Now that we have made the decision, I feel better about it every day. We are in the process of trying new recipes now. I think we will convert fully once we go through what is in our freezer. I was thinking about waiting until September since i have a trip to WDW in August, but I don't think I can wait. I am ready now. It will be difficult for me on my trip since I do not like veggie burgers or the wraps they have. We have the free QS dining plan...I will probably eat pizza a lot on the trip. :lmao:

Jeanette - woohoo on breaking the 240 barrier! Way to go!

Mrs D - good luck with the training plan. I need to choose a fall marathon and start in the next couple of weeks myself. If the large size of the Garmin is a drawback (and the 305 is pretty hefty), I think they have smaller models without all the bells and whistles, and I think Polar makes a smaller GPS watch as well.

Maura - good luck with your training!

As for me - my miles for the month are pretty bad. I have kept the streak going, but pretty much needed a month to recover from the double whammy of a marathon and an ultra in the same month. On the plus side, I can see that speedwork is really starting to pay off, and my legs are finally feeling light and springy again. Did some barefoot running on a soccer field last week, and might look into getting a pair of the vibrams and seeing how they go.
