Team Bios
Steffwalks, aka Connie - Captain. I am 53 years old, married with Two children and 5 Grandchildren living in the panhandle of Texas. First race at 49 years and 9 months and it was a trail race, just about killed me!! I am working on weight loss and P90X. I prefer the half marathon as a walker. My most recent hobby, mule rider!
Funwalker, aka Margie - Official Record Keeper of HK. walker. widow; I live in Portage MI
Did my 1st race when I turned 60, Full Marathon at the 2005 Columbus Marathon. I prefer Half Marathons for training and distance.
Windwalker, aka Dave and/or Panda - I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually and I'm currently training for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. I have the state trials in Sept and if I place there I get a slot on the Ky team that will go to Houston next year for the nationals. I'm single.
flipflopmom, aka Taryn - I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare"time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away,so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.
Motomiker, aka Mike - I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois and have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Rober). Working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan. and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.
LynnG, aka Lynn - (of Lynn and Scott), 59 years old, retired We are both Disneyholics – we have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but since knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.
Villians_Rock, aka Eva - I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.
MaryJ aka Mary I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.
GirltheGecko aka Hope. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.
es45 aka Elizabeth: I'm 41 and married with 2 children, DD9 and DD6. I'll run my first 5k in July and walking with my best friend in the 2011 Princess Half. If I'm ready, I plan to run my first half marathon in late October.

Hi team! I can't believe that it's June already - time is just flying by! Not much of import to report - did an hour of training last night and we worked on metabolic exercises and deadlifting. No new PBs unfortunately :) I did try out a few new body weight exercises which were jumping squats and jumping lunges - the exercises that look easy but get really tough after a few! I missed my run this morning because I ended up staying up late but will try to get it in after work.
Kim says hi to everyone!
Margie - Fantastic quote! And yikes on the humidity level! Not sure what our humidity is like in Toronto but it could be pretty close. It rained last night and while it cooled things down, it also made it really humid.
Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi team, happy June!!!!
We are half way till the next Goofy and the longer it gets the more fuzzy the horrid cold of that last one seems. I'm looking for this one to be hot again, please please hot.
I'm doing well and the eating is going super. Another plus is that I have lots more energy, my workouts don't wipe me out the way they were doing.
I was still 178 this morning so it seems that rapid loss period is slowing down and the rest of the pounds are going to fight back.
Margie what would we do without you.
Vicky, I'm planning to make a trip back up to your neck of the woods again within the next year, probably spring next year so we can visit you and Kimmer.

Good morning team! I've been out running everyday this week - so much for me ignoring that rule about not increasing mileage by more than 10%/week. These are short 3 milers so I *figure* it will be okay. I'm going to try and squeeze in an accupuncture appointment for my cranky ankle before I take off on Saturday but so far it looks like everyone is busy.
Dave - The road trip sounds exciting! Keep me posted on your dates so we can arrange for a get together!!
Sue - I'm not doing too well with the "heat". I feel like I missed out on a month to aclimitize to the temperatures by not running in April. I think it was about 0-2C when I stopped running and then all of a sudden in May it was up to 20C. Do you have any races upcoming?
Margie - Any updates on Hagen? How's Sara doing?
Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi everyone!
Loved reading the bios! I'll work on mine after I finish this post.
Had a great Memorial Day! We had our own little Block Party Bash. My neighbor organized it. She went to the city council and was able to get our street blocked off so there were kids playing ball, riding their bikes etc. in the street most of the afternoon. Another two neighbors went together and rented a blow up bounce house for the kids. Our mayor lives two door down from us and he arranged for a police car and fire engine to make an appearance. The kids had a great time climbing inside them and turning on the sirens! All the adults just went from yard to yard chatting and eating. Good times!
DH & I have agreed that we are going to register for the WDW Half for 2011. We've really been dragging our feet on this one, but since it's nowhere near full, we decided we don't have an excuse. 2010 was DH's first half at Disney and he says he wants to run there when the temp is warm. :sunny: Also, it's DH's dream to see Yosemite park and the Sequoia Nat'l Forest, so our long range plan is to do that in late August of 2011, then go to DL for the half there as well. (I really want that Coast to Coast medal.)
My knee is still giving me some trouble. I've been doing more walking than running lately to give it a rest. My chiro thinks it might be related to my IT band, but I'm not so sure. Got a massage today, so hopefully that will help.

Good morning Team!!
Sorry to be AWOL, again. We have been to Kentucky and back in only 3 days. Picked up two great riding mules. Except mine did a Rodeo and dance and I can safely say, I am no rodeo cowboy! I couldn't stay with him. Oh well, he didn't run off and I got back on...A memorable Memorial Morning!
Then we had the grandkids. What a job! They are sooooooooo grand, but they sure can be kids too! They were feeling pretty special because school was out and we had them from Wednesday to Sunday.
Good to hear from you Marry!
Way to go, Vicky!
Great job, Mike!
Some days just look better upside down, Sue!
Love that Margie!
Fantastic, Dave. Cemented your position, yet?
Get that walking in, Hope! Good job!
Good on the weight loss, Robert!
Where ya at, Kim?
What's up, Jennifer?
Good to hear from you, Eva!
How's the kids, Gerry?
Have a great fun trip, Scott and Lynn
Where's our nurse, Pam?
You still with us, Taryn?
Great race, Regina!
We miss you, Denise.
High, Jack!
What's up? Shannon, Figment, and Loralei and Kirsty?

I did my 5 miler and the humidity made it an adventure. I will acclimate soon but wow, I have the group walk tomorrow and that" 6.5 miles at about a 12 min or faster pace. I have created monsters.
I just woke from a 2 hour nap and now I'm trying to come to life with coffee. I didn't drink any coffee this morning before I went so I'm loving this mug. My lunch was more baked fish, Bush's baked beans, sliced tomatos and a slice of dark bread. I think I'm going to have to add a little more fat into my diet, maybe some nuts or something.
I'm still suffering with the achillies but I do believe I'm making headway. I'm also having some pain again from the heel spur on my right heel, the stretching for the bad left achillies will help since I stretch both daily. I'm not letting it slow me down though it just requires long warm ups.
No Connie the trials are in late Sept or the first part of Oct. I'm gonna do it though, I will not be denied!

Welcome to June!! I went out and walked today2.5 miles in 40 minutes. It's a bit slower than I'd like, but I'm still getting used to maneuvering with a stroller. I am currently following the novice training schedule for Higdon 10K and am in line for Fourth of July!!
On a personal note...anyone know much about teething babies? Either my Gage needs an adjustment to his acid reflux meds or he is teething. He's been waking up through the night again (after us getting used to him sleeping 10 hours straight), chewing and drooling on everything, crying during bottles and refusing to eat. I'm currently freezing some washcloths for him to chew on...I hope it helps! Anyone know how long this will last?!?
Dave - So glad to hear your walking group is doing so well!! You sure are a speedy panda! You are walking faster than my pudgy butt can run!
Connie - Good to see that you have had safe travels and had a blast with the grandkids!
Mary - I have ongoing IT band issues and I have noticed that my shoes make a HUGE difference. If they are slightly over miles then they make my knee flair up. I also had switched over to Mizunos from Asics and have had better luck with my knee after that too. Do you have a running store that can analyze your gait and shoe patterns?
Vivky - I miss the days that I could run every day!! Once Gage gets bigger and he can go with me I hope I can get back to that!
Margie - Hot and humid here too...but I kinda like it!!
OK...back to my trip planning...I can call in my dining ressies tomorrow you know!!! Yay! :woohoo:

Hi Kids!
NINE DAYS UNTIL WDW!!! Flying out on the 11th! I ran 4 miles today and was dive-bombed by a red winged blackbird protecting it's nest. Buzzed my head five times!
Liz just signed up for a sprint distance triathalon on August 22nd in Pleasant Prarie WI!! She's hooked on this exercise stuff! I'll be doing a 5K on this Saturday in Sycamore IL, and possibly a 10K on Sunday, depending on my work schedule.
Mary~ My goal is the Donald in 2011 and the DL half also. We will have to make plans to meet! Lynn and Scott should also be attending the DL half.
Dave~ what kind of fish are you eating, any favorites? Our store sells everything, but I never know what to try! :confused3

Eva...I just recently bought new shoes, so I don't think that is the problem. I have a wide foot and New Balance is the only brand that really fits me well.
Mike...It would be great to meet up for the DL Half. Maybe we can meet you at the WDW meet in Jan. so that we will be familiar faces by Sept.
Went out for a walk this morning, no running. Felt a little twinge in the inside of one knee, so I cut it short. Otherwise, felt good to be out again.

Good Morning Team!
I made my work deadline so taking a little time to post before going onto the next project.
Took last night off. Went to DD's school concert. Didn't feel guilty because we had rain....rain....& more rain. Haven't seen it pour like that in a long time.
Vicky, No races planned until the du. in July. DH is doing the Ride to Conquer next weekend.
The humidity is killing me. By the time I walk from Union to TEC I'm done for the day & it's only 7am. I noticed this morning that the paper boxes & garbage bins along Bay St. are gone. Still unclear on security & walking in "The Zone". How will you get to work?
Margie, Are you still making it to the gym? Any decision on races?
Dave ,You should make fish the question of the week.
My fave. is halibut with tomatoes, mushrooms & feta cheese broiled on top. We also eat salmon, tuna, tilapia, catfish, mahi-mahi.
Have a great day...........Sue

Sue that's a wonderful idea.
Question of the week:
What is your favorite fish and how do you like it prepared. Mine is currently grilled burbon salmon at a restraunt and baked catfish rubbed with BBQ sauce at home. Paired with a baked sweet potato and a garden salad with extra tomato and french or rasberry vinager dressing.
My 6.5 mile group walk was awesome today. We picked up a new walker, a math professor who teaches at WKU.

How ever Denise makes sea bass. Unless it's us paying, then it's steelhead trout with Nick's homemade vinaigrette dressing. It's one of the few fish Nick will eat. I pretty much like any fish.

Hi team! Just finished a training session and an accupuncture session. I'm still not brave enough to look at the needles going in or staying in. I think this time I got an extra needle into my ankle and overall they stayed in longer. The one in my foot hurt a little more this time.
Dave - I like sashimi! For cooked fish, I like trout marinated in lemon juice, butter and garlic and then grilled. I like Cajun catfish and salmon but that turns out dry sometimes when the piece is too thick. Does shrimp count? I love scallops too!

Question of the Week: Fish
Baked or Grilled:
I prefer light fish with no fishy smell.
Seasoned with Lemon, Herbs or light marinade
Favorites: Salmon, Cod
Okay: Swordfish, Trout, White Fish, Halibut
Fried:
Fresh Lake Perch, Bass, Walleye
No Barbecue, Blackened, or Cajun anything: (Acid Reflux)
No So Much:
Tilapia – I have tried this a few times.
Seeing I do not use spices I find the taste very distinct and often metallic.
Never tried:
Cat Fish, Grouper
Fresh Tuna

Margie darlin, you will never make it as a Kentucky Red Neck. You have to not only love catfish cooked every which way but actually have day dreams about it.
I woke up to 179 lbs, must be muscle gain!
I'm on day shift so workout was an hour of pool fun and stretching.

Dave:hippie:
I've always said "I've never met a salmon I didn't like," so salmon prepared any way is always a favorite of mine. I also like tilapia marinaded in a soy sauce marinade that I found in a Weight Watchers cookbook, then grilled.

Hi team!
Just thought I'd check in.
Mike- Can't wait to read your race reports! Good luck!
Vicky- Let us know how Boston was!
Hope- Maybe I missed it, but how did it go with your job interview? Did you get the transfer?
AFM, my running hasn't really been happening too much this last week. Ran 3 miles on Thurs and walked 2 miles after that, but I'm still worried about my foot. I'm taking it slowly and thinking I'm going to get it checked out if it is still hurting during my next few runs. I'm also going to focus more on my weightlifting to strengthen those areas and see if that helps...
So, DH and I decided we will not be signing up for the SF 1/2. With the foot problems that have started I unfortunately just won't have time to fix those issues and get the necessary miles in to be confident and prepared for the race. So we'll keep training for wine and dine and next year we will shoot for the sf 1/2 or full. we should be good to go by then right? :thumbsup2
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Hi guys.
I just got back from continuing education classes in Louisville. They other guys laughed at me for sleeping all the way up there, nodding out during the classes and then sleeping all the way home. I'm wide awake now.
I'm using this as a stay off my feet day, I needed the rest. I'm taking advantage of the time now to get laundry done and making supper soon.
I was bad at lunch, all you could eat buffet came with the class fee. I did just make one trip though.

But, I spoke to my friend/bridesmaid at her new store, and within her first few days, she had a bat-wielding fugitive run through the store, the store lost power, then it caught fire. So, I told her she brought bad mojo over and she should come back.

Hi Team!
I had a busy weekend here! Only two more work days until I'm done for vacation at WDW and the Everest Challenge! I did two races over the weekend and set TWO new PR's for myself!!:woohoo:
First the Unlimited Performance 5K in Sycamore IL. After working all night, I set out on a mission to beat my old PR of 27:30. It was overcast an rainy and an outright downpour during the race! It was fun and a great bit of nostalga as the last time that I ran in the heavy rain was last years Everest! (Getting me ready for Saturday??) I finished in 26:43 by my watch with a pace of 8:32!!:woohoo: After the race, I saw the surgeon who did my vision correction, who also ran. Fun time had by all. Placed 76 / 256.
Next, I ran the Run thru the Sun 10K in Huntley IL to benefit the Huntley Youth Sports Organization. It was a little unorganized at packet pick up as it was one woman with four little kids (one baby), on the edge of a field with the wind blowing her tent around. (Give this lady a little help!) They were out of tshirts (only for the first 150) and they had 300 sign up. (UM, order more?) In the goodie bag were advertisements for races that happened last month.
They had 300 runners for the 10K and 5K races which had the same start and then split off. They had 100 volunteers! At the split point I was suddenly all alone except for a couple of others. I felt like I was in last place!
Got to the end in 59:21 with a pace of 9:20. My old PR for a 10K was 1:01:55 so I did okay. My watch was spot on in distance through mile 5 and it said the race was 6.36 miles long!! What's up with that? I won a raffle prize, a race bag from last year with ....flyers for last years local races.
If I had run the 5K I would have placed in my age group!:rotfl: Ah well, maybe next time!
Dave~ I don't normally eat alot of fish, maybe I'll start on vacation at the Pub at EPCOT! We ate at Ohana in 2008 during our honeymoon and the food wasn't grilled, it was burned to a crisp. I think we had it on an off night.
Gerry~ I'll PM you with some of our info so we can meet up at Everest! I'll be wearing a blue and white visor with Yamaha on it.
Hope~ we had the same thing happen in our store- I guess one of our employees was a gang member and several others came in with some bats looking for him, the came tumbling through the meat department doors into the back room. Broke one bat over him. He was later arrested for kidnapping his girlfriend in a armed standoff with the cops.
Vicky~ I hope that you are having fun in Boston!
Mary~ We will meet at marathon weekend!
Regina~ Take it easy on that foot!
Margie~ Those were bad storms!
Take care- Mike:cool2:

Good morning, HK!
Sheesh....seems like it's just been turmoil in our lives since December!
Jon was in the hospital all weekend with 3 broken ribs, a broken collar bone, and a 5% collapsed lung because he decided that he could ride the crazy mule he bought me. I was thrown on Monday, but didnt' suffer from much other than a broken finger and some sore muscles. Jon on the other hand.... The guy who sold us the mule (in Kentucky!) will be picking him up and bringing us a mule that doesn't think its in the Rodeo!
My daughter's troubles have calmed down, but it led to a divorce. And it isn't completely over yet. At least the heart ache is passsing...
AFM - I still haven't gotten a chance to look at P90X, yet! I want too, but the fates or circumstances or whatever is keeping me in a weird place. Guess I will go hoe the garden a while.

Sue - Tomorrow will probably be an outlet shopping day because the forecast calls for rain. I wanted to walk around the city a little more but not if it's going to be humid and rainy out.

Doing a quickie buzz by, had some chaos at work. My coworker is now out for a week. Yuck, six day work week for me.
Wedding update: I'm focusing on shoes. I really really really want to wear heels at my wedding but my track record with heels is a bad one. I spent most of Denise's daughter's wedding barefoot. So, Nick bought me some strappy heels and I had a friend recommend the Dr Scholls inserts. I actually stood around in my strappy heels and it wasn't too bad.

Hope- I’m sorry to hear you were runner up again! Hang in there! You’re right- something will come up.
Mike, Liz, and Gerry- Good luck at Everest!! Come back with lots of great stories and pics for us! :cheer2:
Connie- I’m glad you and Jon are both ok! How is Jon doing?
Vicky- I’m glad you’re enjoying your trip! :woohoo: Yes, lifting is definitely bringing to my attention how weak my muscles are. The first time I went, DH had me focus on my legs and a little bit of core. I was so sore it hurt to walk for the next 2 days. At least it was a good kind of sore….:confused3
Margie- How often does Hagen have to go to the Dr.? Do they think Hagen will continue to improve? How was your 5 mile walk?
Jennifer- Congrats on winning the preliminary competition and good luck at the state preliminary!!
Crazy things seem to happen at stores from time to time. When I worked at Shopko in high school, we had a guy run into the store and then barrel through the fire escape door in the back that had locks on it and took off. He literally broke the lock as he barreled through. We thought he was probably high on meth or something like that. Scary!
AFM, been taking it really slow on the running. I also started my training plan over and am going to continue strength training every other day. Also, DH, a friend, and myself signed up for a local 6K on 6/26. It’s called the Meridian Barn Sour. Looking forward to that at least!
Hope everyone’s training is going well! :wave2:

Thanks for the Congrats everyone! The state pageant isn't until November so I still have sometime to get ready. I'll be upping the strength training to get some more tone for the pageant.
Today we hit a record 102 degrees, so I had to work out in the gym. It was still 90 degrees at 8 o'clock tonight.
5.25 miles in 43 minutes on the treadmill, followed by 20 minutes of strength training.
Hope it wasn't too hot at Everest!
Margie, I empathize about opressive air!
Regina, That has got to be the craziest story in a store I have heard.

Back from Everest!
5k but more like a 10k when all said and done
5k time was slower than lately but maybe 4 obstacles had something to do with that?
After 5k, back in the park and all around finding and solving clues--which i logged another couple of miles.
I did need to cool off so back to Kali River Rapids in search of getting soaked.
Back in car--my gps said over 6 miles.
DS 10 and I finished 98th out of 152 of the men's teams

Happy Monday Team!
Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Margie, I'm riding the same bike as your niece. I love it also. It's a women's specific bike. DH had a great weekend. 4000 riders & they raised over 16 million $. They really lucked out on the weather considering how stormy/ rainy it was. DH's best friend who he was riding with is currently battling cancer so it was a very emotional weekend.
Glad to hear you are able to team up with a walking buddy.
Vicky, Have you returned safely from DC? Did you get in any running?
I see they were busy on the weekend downtown. Our tax $ are building quite a nice fence. :headache:
AFM, I might be home early enough for spin if not I will be doing my usual yoga class.

Hope everyone’s well. It was a beautiful day here until about 20 minutes ago when it started thundering and raining.
Hope- How’s the shoe shopping going?
Jennifer- Yes, it was definitely pretty crazy!
Margie- That’s great the pediatrician calls regularly to get updates on Hagen. Sounds like you guys did great for 90% humidity! I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to walk in weather like that! It’s awesome you found a WISH walk buddy in your area.
Gerry – Great job at Everest! Hope DS had a great time!
Sue- Hope spin or yoga went well. Seems like you are always working! They must keep you pretty busy up there!
AFM, will be doing a 3 mile run tomorrow with DH and the dog after work. I can’t believe we’re already half way through June! DH and I bought our plane tickets for Wine and Dine yesterday and switched hotel reservations last night so we are getting excited about that! One step closer to October!...:woohoo:

Hope- How’s the shoe shopping going?
Shoe shopping is slow. Too many choices, I'm not going too daring with my heel height. Four inches is insanity. The new 'trainer' heels have been working well. Nick and I went shopping and I survived a pretty impressive length of time while walking around.

Hope has the gulf oil spill affecting your fish supplies and prices? I saw where there might not be any more oysters for several years and shrimp will be very expensive.
Dave:hippie:
Right now there hasn't been a large impact. Only two of my products come from that area and they are frozen so that might have been caught before the spill. It's just two sizes of gulf shrimp. The bulk of my product comes from northern waters, including oysters. I'm not sure how much it'll change my prices since the spill is only directly affecting gulf shrimp (of the products I carry--I know the spill itself is devastating to many other seafood products). I think the oyster demand will shift and might cause over harvesting in northern waters. One of the perks of gulf oysters is they don't really have a dormant stage so they tend to grow faster and they seem to not have as many problems with diseases as northern water oysters. So that change might cause an indirect price jump. Either way, I can only see the effects through really those two products at this time. Depending on how widespread the spill gets, it might change.
I had more of a problem with the earthquake in Chile and volcano eruption causing supply problems and driving up prices.

Good morning, HK!
I have a few minutes while Jon is still sleeping. He is pretty miserable. I am afraid he has been trying to do to much and making me do to much along with him! The hired hand left us with a mess and in a mess. We are having to deal with that on top of everything else. I am not contractor or builder, but I guess I am learning. :sad2:
Riding a horse or mule burns 300 calories an hour. :confused3 I am amazed! Turns out it is one of the best overall workouts!
My tendonitis is greatly improved. I think it's because of the cowboy boots.
THanks for all the Congrats on our anniversary. We did manage lunch out.

Hi team! Sorry to be MIA - just catching up on work and other things. I posted some pics from my trip on my Facebook account. Got a few from Boston, Carlo's Bakery in NJ (Cake Boss) and Washington, DC. There are some panda pics in there too for Dave! :)
Sue - One set of the fences runs along Wellington, right in front of my office. I think we're being forced to take a few days off next week. I don't think the company wants to pay to have security checks done for an entire building. No running in DC :( I wanted to give my ankle a rest. There are a ton of runners in that city - the sidewalks are nice and wide but there are some sections where the pavement is damaged and "wavy". Not sure how the runners there manage without some ankle or other injuries.
Margie - Great to hear that you have a new walking partner! and pixiedust: for Hagen! Poor guy :(
Connie - I had no idea horse and mule riding was such a calorie burner. I'll have to give it a try sometime - except I don't know anyone who has a horse. Hopefully Jon is feeling better soon!
Hope - I had a lot of trouble with heels and still do. Doing lots of core exercises helped me to walk a little more "normally" in heels. Doesn't quite help with the foot pain when I have to stand in them for long periods of time. I had an insert for the ball of the foot that really helps. Platform heels (think Louboutins, Aldo's has some) are great for getting in the height without actually standing on the full height of the heel. The platform usually gives you a "boost" of 2" and then it's like you're standing on 2" heel.
Dave - Hope your feet feel better soon! Say hi to Sally :)
Jennifer - I'm a little late but congrats on winning the local competition. I didn't know you were into pageants. What kind of exercises does your trainer have you doing for your core/
Gerry - Congrats on EE! That's a great pic! That's a race that's been on my to-do list for a while. Were the clues/puzzles tricky?
Regina - October will be here before you know it! I can hardly believe that it's almost the end of June. Is DH doing the 1/2 as well?
Mike - Hope you're having a fantastic time at WDW!
Kim - Are you back on PX90? How goes the fast with pop?
AFM - I'm slowly getting back into morning runs. Went out for a 6K this morning and it was gorgeous weather weather. Nice and cool but sunny! Lots of other runners out as well. I'm a week behind on my 30K training but that race isn't until the end of August so I'm okay with it. I'd rather go easy on my ankle.
Did some training at the gym last night and my PT noticed that I had leaned out some more! He thinks it might have been all the eating I did last week  I forget the term but basically when you've been on a low fat or low sugar etc. diet for a while and you suddenly start eating a lot more calories, your body does temporarily try to increase its metabolism to try and get rid of stuff. He said I shouldn't let it get to my head though
Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

I choose the 'fingertip' length.
I think it's the arch/ball issue. I'm using the Dr Scholls inserts designed for heels with the strappy heels Nick got me (four inch heel with 3/4 inch platform on the front). So far they are working extremely well. I keep wearing them to go shopping and errands. So, I'm still on a three or so inch heel, and that opens up a ton of options. Like these (http://www.zappos.com/romantic-soles-arleigh-blue-satin), these (http://www.zappos.com/gabriella-rocha-chrisella-maryjane-blue), or these (http://www.zappos.com/martinez-valero-caitlin-blue-satin)

Kim - Parking on King Street should be okay - the Green P parking lot at Yonge and Lakeshore is still open. The fencing has Wellington down to 2 lanes from Bay St going west past the CBC building. There are a couple of streets that are down to one lane - Bay St southbound (at King), Simcoe St north bound (south of Front) and York St north (south of Front). I'm pretty sure you can still get into Metro Hall from Wellington and the above ground parking lot on Simcoe and Front is still open as well. Kim, It will always be the Skydome. When someone mentions the Rogers Centre I have to think twice about what they are talking about.
It's quite the fence our taxes $ have built. Don't even get me started on the "fake lake". What a joke.
Vicky, No luck being off next week. GO have been making annoucements to expect delays, telling us to bring a drink & snack & they are closing the washrooms on the trains. Did you see they are unplanting trees in the zone. Afraid protestors will use them as weapons. Unreal.
Are you working/ working from home or taking vacation?

Sue - It's a forced vacation so I'll probably end up using the last few vacation days I have. I always like to save one for my birthday and then one around Christmas but no such luck I guess :sad2: The uprooting the trees is pretty ridiculous.
Anyway could you drive to a TTC station like Finch, Don Mills or Scarborough Town Center and then use the subway to get down to Bloor or further south? That might be easier than using the GO for those few days.
I'm going to try and see Toy Story 3 this weekend but probably won't have time. Most likely it will be next weekend or the one afterward.

Jen.....So sorry to hear about your accident. Take it easy. Let you body tell you what to do. Sometimes you may feel worse a day or two afterwards than you did initially.
Gerry...nice to hear about EE. DH and I did the race in the September monsoon. Glad to know you had better weather!
AFM...very hot and humid here, so I've been mostly cross training at the gym. DH is in Canada for business and will be home tonight. Hoping I can get up early tomorrow for a run/walk. Need to start training for the Wine and Dine half soon!

Hi team! Happy Father's Day to all the dads on our team! Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Nice sunny weather in Toronto - it's a little hot for running but better than cold weather or rain. I did 7.5 miles this morning - I keep forgetting to get out earlier. It was quite hot running under the sun and after 10AM, there isn't much shade either.
So I did my 5K yesterday. It was at the airport on a closed runway - I think there were about 1,000 people in for the run. Not sure of the numbers for the 2K walk or the 1K kids run. The race organizers warned us that there had been reports of hail and/or thunderstorms but luckily the rain held off until the afternoon.
I decided to leave the packet pickup until the day of the race. Which wasn't necessarily a bad idea but I should have gotten there much earlier. I ended up having to unlace my shoe to get the chip on and I was panicking a little bit because most of the 5K runners had already gone out to the starting corrals. Luckily, DF was there to help get the chip on and stayed nice and calm :)
The runway was windy! I didn't realize how strong the wind was until I started running. Because the runway was so wide, the runners were spread out and there was no one to draft and so I spent the first 2/3 of the course was running directly into the wind. Naturally, at the turnaround, the wind stopped so I didn't get anything pushing me to the finish. I did spot a ROTE runner on course and stopped to chat with him. I forgot to ask him for his name so I don't know who he is but I think he knows Jeff and Scott. I had a little bit of trouble running after the turnaround. I think running into the wind took a lot more out of me than I expected. I stopped a few times for walking breaks. I ended up finishing in 27:24 and placed 11/97 in my category and 250th overall (you can tell it was a small race  ) I think if I hadn't taken all those breaks, I should have been closer to 26:00 but that will be a goal for my next 5K. :thumbsup2 I posted a few pics on my FB, not sure how to post them here.
Jennifer - pixiedust: I'm glad you're okay! Listen to your body and make sure you're fully recovered before you go running.
Dave - Same here trying to get use to running in hot weather. But the next time the Olympics are held some place hot and humid like Beijing, I'll be ready! Hahaha!!
Kim - Did you and Mike do okay getting around downtown on Friday? We got a memo at work to dress casually at work on Monday. They don't want the protestors giving us a hard time if we're business attire.
Margie - for Hagen! How's he doing? Glad to hear the walks with Nikki are going well!!
Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there :)
I'd give anything to spend time with mine. I just sent mine a card :guilty:
Had a very very busy day today with the holiday, made a bunch of dads happy by having plenty of 'lobstas' on hand for them. Started the day with about 150 pounds, got it down to about 50 before I left. It hurt too. Way too under scheduled for the day. I was a stinky ball of sweat covered in lobster poo at the end of the day.

Good morning team.
Margie, I'm sure next year is going to be better. I can feel it. Haven't seen Toy Story 3 yet but I'm going to see the karate kid on Wed. It looks good and I like Jackie Chan.
I think I'm going to have to lace my shoes different on each foot. I started lacing them a bit different to take pressure off my lower shin, which made my achillies tendonitis feel better but irritated my right heel. So today I changed it back and my achillies is singing and my right heel feels better. So I'm keep the right normal and doing the other method on my left for the next walk.
Vicky, yes let's be ready for the Olympics. Mine will be in Houston in July 2011 so it will be a hot one.

Feeling sorry for yourself should be one of the deadly sins, or at least Thou Shall Not Feel Sorry For Yourself should be one of the TEN Commandments. It just empowers you with an excuse for not moving forward. Use your God given ability to get your Grrrrrrrr on and make the changes that are needed. Then when someone asks you what's happening you can say "I am, Grrrrrrrr!"
That is my message to me this morning. If it hits a nerve with anyone else get your own best Grrrrrrrr on and get after it.

Hi team! I decided to try something different and take my running rest day on Tuesday instead of on Monday. I figure this way, Tuesday will be a complete rest day - no training or running. I'll have to see how that goes.
I was flipping through some of the pics from the 5K race and found out that the person wearing the bib who came in 10th in my age category was a guy! :rotfl: I guess someone sold or gave their bib away ... I couldn't find any pics of me which seems about right since I don't remember seeing any photographers on course.
My PT is away on vacation this week so I'm changing things up and training with my chiro instead. I worked out with him yesterday and did metabolic and core exercises. They were pretty tough and I didn't realize how sore I was today until I reached up with my hands to stretch. Ouch! It's funny how tough new exercises can be :)
I have Thursday and Friday off this week so I'm going to get my haircut. I'm thinking of getting bangs cut so that might be interesting. I hope it looks good! And then I'll try going to see Toy Story 3 on Friday.
Dave - Your post hit a nerve with me today. I'll admit I've been feeling down and sorry for myself lately. I'm still getting in my running and training but definitely trying to make myself better with a little food therapy. I think I'll use your post as that kick in the butt I need to get myself back on track.
Hope - That's a lot of lobster! Hope you were able to get the smell out. I have a friend who imports tropical fish so I can pretty much imagine what the fishy smell was like.
Margie - I always go for pancakes after a race! I guess after a 5K, it's pretty silly but I figure it's a good reward :) How's Hagen doing?
Sue - Did you go and see Toy Story 3 on the weekend? I'm trying to decide whether to see it in regular or 3D ... or spend the extra $$ and go for 3D IMAX. How are you making out with the security fences? Are there long waits to have your ID checked? I walked underground today and no one was checking.
Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

It's awful. Then you add in the sweat smell, it's a wonder Nick let me in the door without hosing me off in the yard before hand. I got the smell out of me and everything, so it's good.
We have wedding shoes! I tried them on in the store and fit fab. when I tried them on with the dress, Nick couldn't get them on right so they hurt a little. I couldn't see to correct him or sit to do it. I'm so excited! But a little bummed too. I have pretty much everything now and have to wait for my trip to WDW to finish planning. How am I going to fill my time now?

Sometimes the things we desire seem take forever to happen. Whether it's finally time to leave on a long awaited vacation or you finally accomplish a goal you have been working toward. But in this day of having everything right now, it is comforting to me that there are still experiences that are worth waiting for.
Your Panda thought of the day.
I'm still having fits with my right foot PF, the left achillies tendonits is much better after regular stretching and icing for the last month. I'm taking a few days off after this morning's group training walk. I'll still play in the pool and stretch though.
Vicky thank you for what you said.

Hi ya Team,
I'M BACK! I'm sorry that I haven't posted since our trip, but we had a ton of things to catch up on at home. Our grass was about ten inches high, a tree brach took down our phone and cable wires and I had to fix them, so on, so forth... I have been dilligent and read everyone's postings so far!
We had a great trip! WDW was hot, and the locals were complaining it was too early in the year for the heat. Most days it was in the upper ninetys and almost no breeze at all. The parks were the busiest that I have ever seen them, but it was my first summer time trip.
The Everest Challenge was alot of fun, but again, HOT! We got to meet up with Kirstie and her husband, and her daughter and service dog Tinkerbell! Kirstie was working as a volunteer at the race. (Gerry, I owe you an apology as I forgot to write down your phone number in the pre-trip chaos, so sorry we missed meeting you) The obstacles were alot less challenging than previous years and were now incorperated into the 5K portion. I finished 20th in the indvidual men's category! Liz finished 51st if I remember right. I saw Kirstie again after the race and she had said that someone had broken their femur on the balance beam obstacle (compound fracture). We had a great time and will hopefully go again next year!
I have officially signed up for the Wine and Dine Half marathon in October! I will be attending solo, but two weeks later we will be back down as a family as they had a bouceback deal for a cheaper room rate. Yes! More time at Disney!
The trip was fun, we tried some new (to us) restaurants, did the Backstage Magic tour, all four parks, and Typhoon Lagoon. I also found the courage to ride the Tower of Terror and the Rock and Roller coaster for the first times. I also gained nine pounds from too much food and way too much drink. ( I highly recommend Test Track after a few beers- way more fun!) :cool1:
I'll report on the other two races from last weekend later on!
Gerry~ We are again so sorry that we missed you, glad you had fun at the race!
Jennifer~ I'm sorry about your car accident, I've been there myself. Good luck at the Miss USA preliminary! Wowza! pirate:
Dave~ Good luck with your PF and tendon! Why doesn't Disney have Pandas?
Margie~ Glad that you found a workout buddy! Hope Hagen is doing well!
AFM~ I would like to post to everyone but there is so much to remember! I am impressed by how much all of you do, and get done! I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and sleeping during the daytime again. The weather here is hot, humid , and very stormy, with more predicted. No races for me this weekend as I still have a ton of yardwork to catch up on. Liz and Robert are racing on Sunday morning. Liz also signed up for a sprint distance triathalon in August! I have to get back on training, I'm feeling down and out! As Dave puts it, I have to get my GRRRRR! on!

Mike....enjoyed your trip report. Interesting that someone actually suffered a fracture on the balance beam at EE. I say that because when DH and I ran it last year in the MONSOON, we skipped the balance beams alltogether because DH said, and I quote, "That looks like a good way to break your leg!"
Of course, it was pouring at the time, and the beams were soaking wet.
Great to hear that you've signed up for Wine and Dine. I'll be there doing the relay with DH. I'll be sure to wear my WISH shirt!
AFM: Having some trouble with my pesky knee again. Must call the orthopedist tomorrow to get a recheck. It's been two years since she looked at it, and I just want to make sure there's nothing funny going on. Got a massage today and the therapist said my right IT band was tight, but it's the left knee that's giving me trouble. Go figure. :confused3
For all those who feel like they're living in a sauna...stay as cool as you can, and if you go out to run, be careful.

YES, he has. He keeps getting irritated whenever someone goes "He can't see you in your wedding dress before the day of!"
I don't have the veil, officially. But it's picked out. Soon enough, it'll be here.
We were at Denise's and she has three cats. We have two here. So no surface is safe. The dress is stored under wrap. I purposely avoid putting it on to avoid the cat hair. I also have some weird thing where I fret about if I still love the dress and then look at it and go "It's so PRETTY! loveitloveitloveit."

I already told him he won't see the entire package together until D Day. I don't think he could pick my dress out of a line up now, even with seeing it recently. I also think I could strut down the aisle in flip flops and sweats and he'd still think I was stunning.
I know the real reason why he wanted to go dress shopping with me is because my parents were not there and couldn't be there (mom's passed, dad's in prison). He'd be the only one to be able to settle me down. Luckily, it was only happy tears at the bridal store.

Just poppin' in to say hi! I've been super busy with work (summer storms are upon us here at the airport)!! Still doing minimal training due to lack of time and an unpredictable baby on my hands. We are having a party that day and I'm not sure if I'll have time. We'll see....

Hey Team!
I’m sorry I’ve been MIA the last 2 wks or so. As soon as my foot was feeling better I started getting knee pains and have been a little down about one thing after the other coming up! I think DH and I have finally figured out what’s going to work though and today my run went pretty well. (I had been worried about it and not excited at all because I was afraid it wasn’t going to go well).
This race was much smaller than the 10K we did in Tualatin last month, but it was still nice. We picked up our race packets last night. The shirts are white and have a cute design. Race packet didn’t have much- a coupon for another local running store (which we will definitely check out!), the shirt, a 7 day pass to a gym we don’t like, and a 2010 census water bottle. Still, always nice to have another water bottle since DH and I use them all the time at work. ;)
The race started and ended at one of the parks in Meridian, ID. The park is a very nice one. Our race numbers were 284 (me) and 285 (DH). I can’t remember what my friend, Mike’s number was. They started the 6k and 10k races at the same time. We ran out of the park and down the street to a softball field and circled back. There were no major hills that made me want to cry, so that was awesome since my temperament is very fragile the last couple weeks or so! The Meridian PD was awesome and ensured cars stopped when we were crossing streets. There were 2 water stops, but it was actually like 4 because the route circled back so you could get water going both directions. We finished our 6k in 37:09 chip time and 37:18 gun time. Felt like I was going slow. DH didn’t venture out on his own to see how fast he could go this time b/c he’s just finished playing football this season and injured his knee so he hasn’t been able to run until earlier this week. I’m curious to see how fast he’ll go though once he’s up and moving! At the finish line they had free massages (we didn’t get one), bagels, and Powerade/Vitamin Water/Water. I think the results said DH was 3rd in his age division (again it was a smaller race), and I was 4th. We finished about 34/35 overall I think. The chip system was kinda weird. It measured our time based on visually seeing the race bibs (as opposed to a timing mat), but it seemed to work ok. It was a good morning. I’m just really glad I finished and that my knee or leg did not hurt at all! I’m feeling pretty good and like I really can do this again. Now I need to look online and see what other races I can sign up for to keep me moving forward.
Hope- Keep up the great work with the training shoes! Love the veil! It looks beautiful. I think DH may have seen me in my wedding dress before we were married too?
Dave- What is PF?? How was the Karate Kid? Haha, I love the advice about getting your Grrrr on! Thanks for sharing!
Connie- How are things going with the mess?
Jennifer- I’m sorry to hear about your accident. How are you healing?
Margie- That is great you and your new walking buddy are close in pace and such a good fit! Sounds like it’s going well. I'm glad Hagen's doing better. Have fun at the wedding.
Vicky- Yes DH is doing the half also. Great race last weekend! Awesome time!!
Vicky/Sue/Kim- I must have missed it also…what is the wall they are building for?
Sue- Thanks for the TS3 review! Will have to check it out.
Mary- Will you be doing a specific training plan for Wine and Dine or making up your own?
Mike- Welcome back! Glad you guys had a great vacation. Awesome that you signed up for Wine & Dine!!
Ok, I think I'm finally all caught up, so that's it for now. Have a great weekend everyone. :wave2:

WISH Tech Shirt Order
See the New Thread to Order Shirts from Chimera (Mel)
I can do another order anytime, just need a minimum of 30 shirts.
Now would actually be better for me than August.
I'm teaching now and don't have students until fall.
DB...RaceReady makes a trail shirt that has pockets
on the back, kinda like a bike shirt but not quite as
tight as a regular bike shirt.
Carrie was looking into tri shirts awhile back.

Hi, everyone! jmasgat (Maura) just assigned me to this team. I'm Elizabeth, age 41, married with 2 children-DD9 and DD6. I'm running my first 5k next month and walking with my best friend in the 2011 Princess Half. If I'm ready, I plan to run my first half marathon in late October.
I already recognize a few of you from your posts and I've been reading windwalker's advice in preparation for walking the Princess. Glad to be part of the team.:thumbsup2

Welcome Elizabeth. I'm glad to hear you were following the walking thread. I'm a dedicated walker and supporter of other walkers.
Sally and I had a nice outting at Mammouth cave, deer watching and walking. We finished the weekend with a three mile walk at the mall this morning.
Margie thank you for being here for us. Means more than you know.

Hi Team
Hope everyone had a good Monday.
Elizabeth- Hi! Welcome to Hakuna Matata. Do you know what half marathon you want to run in late October if you’re ready?
Scott & Lynn- Welcome back!
Margie- I agree it’s very quiet on the board. Everyone must be really busy!
AFM, ran 3 miles on the TM today and did a core workout. I went really slow (1st 2 miles at 12 min /3rd mile at 11 min.) but I ran the entire time which was good for me. I was going to run outside but a storm hit and it started thundering and lightning. Oh well, it was hot outside anyway!
Elizabeth- Hi! Welcome to Hakuna Matata. Do you know what half marathon you want to run in late October if you’re ready?
Hi, Regina! If ready, I'm planning to run the inaugural Myrtle Beach Mini. I'm signed up for the 5k the day before but keep toying with the idea of doing more.

Good Morning Team!
Welcome, Elizabeth!!!!!
Scott & Lynn, Welcome back. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures. What was the best place you visited?
Mike & Regina, I haven't been on in a while. Congrats! on your great race results.
It's old news but last week we had a small earthquake. Odd experience. It was enough for me. Can't imagine going through a "big one"
Over the last few days Toronto had the pleasure of hosting the major world leaders for the G20. Friday was calm & peaceful. Major unrest by a small group of idiots over the weekend. Walking to work yesterday was building after building boarded up waiting for glass repairs to be done. Unbelievable.
I'm changing things up for my training program for October's marathon. I've been a Hal Higdon follower for all my previous races. I'm going to try a modified version from the lastest issue of Runner's World.
Got to run to a meeting..........Have a great day everyone.......Sue

Good Morning Team!
I will try for a third time to post this message:confused3
Yes, Scott brought me back with him, we had a great trip! Scott would probably say that Normandy was his favorite place, I liked it all, but was most impressed by St Petersburg, maybe because I never thought I would get there. Might have to go to facebook for pictures.
It looks like from Margies post that there have been several injuries - pixiedust: to all of you!
I need to get serious about training, I have 3 half marathons scheduled - Labor Day (DL), October (Denver Rock and Roll) and Thanksgiving (Space Coast). In the 3 days I have been home, I have gone from 1.25 miles to 3 miles at a pace of a little over 16:30 - so I have to work on both stamina and pace!
Welcome Elizabeth!
Have a great day all!

Good Morning Team!
Vicky & Kim, Are you making it a long weekend? Any plans?
HAPPY CANADA DAY!
Margie, For training I always put in the miles but never do any speed & hill work. I'm really going to focus on these 2 areas.
Had to cut my last post short. How was your niece's wedding?
Our holiday is tomorrow & I'm taking Friday as a vacation day for a nice long weekend at the cottage.

Hi everyone! Happy Canada Day and Fourth of July weekends to everyone!
Sue - No long weekend plans, just relaxing and running. I think we're going to have a BBQ but nothing big. You know, I think I'm the only person who didn't feel the earthquake. I feel so left out :( I was sitting at my desk and didn't notice a thing until everyone else got up and was asking why their desks and monitors were shaking. Go figure. Btw, I did end up cutting bangs :D
Margie - Sounds like you have a fantastic weekend ahead. I'll bet Hagen is looking forward to Bounce Land.
Dave/Margie - Thanks for all the hugs and support! It really means a lot to me
Elizabeth - Welcome to the team!!
Scott/Lynn - Welcome back! I can't wait to see the pictures and hear about the stories!
Regina - Congrats on your 6K race! The weather here has been mixed ... it's really hot for a few days and then it will cool right down. I'd rather stick with the cool weather, it makes it much nicer for running :)
Kim - How's it going with the PX90?
AFM - I've been having a few personal issues but I'm still managing to keep up with my running and personal training. The eating has been pretty good too. I finally went to watch Toy Story 3 - I loved it!! I didn't really care for the short they showed beforehand.
Have a great weekend everyone! It's a holiday in Canada tomorrow!

Good Morning Team!
Welcome back Lynn, we missed you princess. You are a bit behind in your training but your strong and determined so you will do fine.
DAve:hippie:
I already feel like I have done almost more than I did for the WDW half - of course, I never should have been allowed to finish that race I was so far behind. Today was 4 miles, and although my average pace was 16:38 again, there were several miles in the middle that I was sub 16. Tomorrow will be 5 miles and Friday will be 6 miles. Then I will go back to alternating 3 and 6 mile walks with a long walk thrown in once a week. I am also hitting the basement for the bike, and I plan to do some weights also - just have to make myself do them!
For anyone in the path of the hurricane - stay safe!
Have a great day all!
