Hard to believe it is the first of June already. Where does the time go?

Did the treadmill this morning, as it was pouring rain when I got up. I slacked quite a bit the last few days food wise, so I really have to get back on track. I can honestly say I have no desire to eat another hot dog, macaroni or potato salad or even one of my veggie burgers for a while!

Oooo! Brand new shiny thread! :goodvibes

:bday:party:, escape (Susie) Hope that your day is a great one! :flower3:
Your birthday wasn't on the list but we found out the date on the BL thread. :goodvibes

I read alot of the Marathoning for Mortals book this week-end and am working on my training plans for the Princess. I will use the summer to get the C25K down (again ;)) and start working on some 5K and maybe a little longer races for the fall. Based on the plans in the book, I would start around the first of November for the half. I think I'll be better off with a lot more running under my belt before that day comes around.

My goals for the Princess are: finish, don't get swept, don't get hurt. princess:

Sorry for the fly by post, still coaching the BL challenge this week! Have an INCREDIBLE day!

Happy Birthday, Susie.

Spent most of the holiday weekend sick at home (thanks for the cold, boyfriend!) Plus, I've been dealing with some girlie issues (just had a Paragard inserted last month), so I haven't been super active. I have a 4M race on Sunday, and then a 10k on June 12th, and a 5M on June 26. I hope that's not too much for my poor body!

Hope everyone has an Incredible Tuesday. Only four days this week!

Good morning, everyone! Happy June. I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. I only ran one day outta the whole weekend and it was only 3 miles, in an awful awful time but that's OK. My first 10K is this Saturday. I'm excited but nervous... they're predicting a high of 82, low of 67 and thunderstorms. So I'm either going to be completely drenched by rain at 7:45 in the morning so I'll be drenched in sweat from the humidity. ::GULP::

I'm gonna do a five mile run tonight and then do some intervals tomorrow or Thursday morning and then rest before the race. It's been almost 2 weeks since I last ran 6.5 miles. I hope that doesn't hurt me.

Vern - I hope training is going well for you. Unfortunately for me, unlike you, I can definitely still tear up some hot dogs and burgers... but I'm not gonna!

Lisah - I LOVE Marathoning for Mortals. I'm reading Run Like a Mother now and that's absolutely fabu! I think I'm going to use MFM's training program too. I liked the layout of it.

Amy - You and I must have been posting at the same time. Feel better! I had a Paragard put in in December. It was kinda rough. Three months of spotting and just blah but I love that it has no hormones. I really really like it now. I hope you do too! I think you're awesome for all those races and I'm sure you can handle it. I have my 10K on Saturday then I have a 5K on the 26th (mine and DH's 6 year anniversary... trying to convince him to run it with me). I'd run more but money doesn't allow it!

Thanks... yeah, I had some spotting initially, and now that it's "that time of the month" all hell seems to have broken loose, LOL. However, we leave for Wine & Dine Half Marathon four months from today, so I can't just stop training.

Regarding money for races, yeah. I hear ya. Fortunately, New York Road Runners has an awesome program where it's only $18 per race if you're a member.

Veronica- I hear ya about the hotdogs, hamburgers, and macaroni salad. I was able to mostly control myself over the weekend but I wont be craving these foods again any time soon.

Lisa- I am following the MFM too. I am thinking of doing the run but once I get further into my training I may change to the run/walk. I guess I have until november to see how it goes.

Amy- having a cold really stinks when you need to run. I hope it clears up for you soon. Boy you have a lot planned for this month. Good luck with all your races. What is paragard? I had Mirena put in 2 years ago. Is it the same type of thing?

Jess- Ive had runs like that too. Im sure the race will go much better. I hope the weather turns out good for you. The race I did on saturday turned out to be cloudy and 70's and the forecast all week said 86 sunny and chance of rain so hopefully it will turn out good for you too!

:bday:Happy Birthday Susie!

Today was my weigh in day since yesterday I was off from work and I use that scale since its a doctors office scale and seems more accurate. I was surprised to see the number since I thought I over indulged a little with the holiday.

I am down another 2.6lbs! :yay::jumping1:
5 week total= 12.6lbs

I am so thrilled and excited to keep it going.

I ran tonight in the humid sticky weather but it felt really good. I added 3 minutes onto my run. I thought I was going at a much faster pace and only walked for a few seconds a few times throughout the run but when I came home and mapped it out I only went .1 longer than last week. :confused3

so in 41 minutes I ran 3.2 miles. Well at least I did it. Thats all the matters.

Lindsay, great job on the weight loss!

Paragard is just like Mirena, but without the hormones. :-)

Ran a not very quick but very easy 2.27 miles in 25:55 tonight. Felt awesome. I decided to try Galloway's half marathon training for a bit, and see how I do.

Hi all!!

Lindsay-great job on the weight loss!:thumbsup2 Keep up the good work!

Amy-hope you are feeling better soon! I looked into the Mirena and Paragard, but we stuck with Depo Provera injections. Easy to have DH give me the shot 4x year, and the best side effect-no period in over 8 years! Gotta love it.

For those reading/following Marathoning for Mortals, I am right there with you. I am reading it again, the info never gets old.

Ran outside on this beautiful morning, 3 miles in 30:17, not too bad. I am still feeling sluggish from the poor eating over the weekend, but things are getting better. DD and I are doing her Girls on the Run 5k this weekend, so I will not be running fast. She did her first one in December in 49 minutes. We are going to shoot for under 45 minutes this time. I think if she a)listens to me and stays with me and b) doesn't buddy up with other girls who are unprepared to run then she will do just fine.

Sorry for the quick fly by, but I am at work. Have a great INCREDIBLE day!

What do you think the hormones do? I still notice I get horrible PMS with it. the week of I feel miserable and irritated. Do you think it has anything to do with it or is it just me? Overall I like it but it said after a year most women no long get their period. Well I still do :headache:

Let me know how that plan is, I am planning to do the MFM training plan but I didnt really look into any others.

In the race I did on saturday alot of younger kids ran with their parents since it was a small local community race. They all would sprint as fast as they could for 30 seconds and then stop and walk like they were dying then they would sprint again. They did this over and over again and half of them looked like they were going to drop before the end of the race. Hope your daughter will listen to you. You know that age they always think their right. At least thats how I remember it;)

Evening, everyone!
I did 2.5 miles in intervals today and then 2.5 miles on the bike at a moderate pace. I didn't want to go nuts today, and I'm definitely taking tomorrow off as my first 10K is Saturday. Bring it on! Tuesday night I ran 4.5 miles at like 9:30 at night and it was awesome. I'm picking up my packet tomorrow at noon and I just cannot wait!

mommyof2pirates - My 5K two weeks ago was just like what you described. All these kids gunning it and then having to walk. I was getting passed left and right and then at the end, left them in the dust. I ended up 226 out of 380. Was hoping for better but not bad for my first race.

Vern - I hope your race with DD is fantastic this week. How old is she? I look at all those kids that ran that race with their parents two weeks ago and I can't wait until mine are old enough to do that!

Amy - How are you feeling with the Paragard? I wanted the no hormone option myself. We had huge infertility issues before my DS was born so I didn't want to mess with hormones. Plus, when you're ready to get pregnant, you take it out and you're off and running.

For those of you reading Marathoning for Mortals (or even if you're not), I'm currently reading Run Like a Mother and I HIGHLY recommend it. It's jam-packed with awesome info, it's light and funny but it's also designed just for women, especially moms. I love it. I'll read it again and again.

Oh yeah, a little PR thing. I started blogging. It's about running and health and fitness and being a mom and a woman and all that stuff mixed together. It's my journey of losing 100lbs once and being about to do it again since having baby #2. If you're interested, I'd love for you guys to check it out: http://milesofamother.blogspot.com.

Nighty night, ladies!

TGIF tomorrow! Its been crazy at work and Im so glad its almost the weekend again.

Jess- I just checked out your blog. Your are an awesome writer. So inspiring to hear your story. Great job on the weight loss and good luck working through the issues. I come from a slovak family and I was always told to eat, eat, eat. Then after kids when I became heavy everyone is like "god your going to eat that now?" "You really should watch what you eat". I know the feeling. Its hard when you dont have the ground work of being healthy laid out for you in your childhood. I am also trying so hard to not just tell my children but to show them how to be healthy.
Good luck on your race!

Jess, good luck with your race on Saturday!

I am running my second 5K on Saturday. I really want to beat my time from April, but we'll see. I know I am faster and stronger now, but at the race in April, it was 60 degrees and cloudy. We'll have to see how the heat and humidity affect me tomorrow!

Hope everyone has an incredible Saturday!

Hi Incredibles!

I feel like it has been forever since I've checked in and I've missed so much! Already in June ~ wow! Where has the year gone. Just doing a quick scan it seems like everyone is doing incredibly well with their training and I want to say Good Luck to all who are running races this month. Unfortunately for me I haven't been doing too good on my training. I did get out last Sunday morning and run a 6 miler but it was not a good run at all. I went later in the day and it was warm and for some reason I am having some issues with my right knee. It is really hurting under my knee cap when I run....anyone else ever had this problem?

My parents were in town for a week and then we had graduation last Friday night so I was happy to fit in some sort of run. So hard for me to believe that I now have a college student and my youngest is now a junior so in two years I'll be an empty nester....that is so scary sounding!

I don't see me getting much running done in the next 5 days either. Me and the boys caught a midnight flight out of Sacramento last night and arrived in Memphis this morning at 8:30 and we are here until Wednesday. I'm having DS a graduation party here in Memphis where all of our family and friends are and then on Monday and Tuesday we have to go to Cleveland Mississippi for DS freshman orientation at Delta State University. Busy.....Busy....Busy! I'm hoping to maybe get in a run tomorrow morning but wow the humidity here is something I'm not use to anymore! And I won't even get started on my eating these past couple of weeks.....but after next week I am getting back on the wagon with my eating!

Again Good Luck to you all on your races! Have an awesome weekend everyone :woohoo:

I ran my second 5k this morning, and I finished in 32:53 (this is according to my Garmin--it was a mass start, and I was toward the back, so I am going by when I crossed the starting line). That is 36 seconds faster than my time in April. I was a little disappointed that I didn't finish faster, but it was REALLY humid and hot. The race in April was 60 degrees and cloudy, so I know the weather made a difference today. I also started too strong today, and I could feel it at the end. I'll pace myself better next time! I saw a friend at the race who has done over 30 races, and she said that was one of the worst races she had ever done. She felt like the course was challenging and it was just hot. That made me feel a little better!

Next week, I am going to start training for a 10K on Labor Day. I am really excited to attempt a longer distance!

Weather is looking iffy for tomorrow's race... 50% chance of rain/thunderstorms at 8am, when the race starts. We'll see, I guess. Estimated 74 degrees, which is warm but not awful, I guess. Hope there's some sort of breeze.

Lauren- great job!! That is a good time, and yes the weather can make things more difficult.

I ran with my DD today for her Girls on the Run 5k. The bike path/trail that they used was nice, although not really that wide. It had a monster hill at mile 1, but since it was an out and back you got to go down it coming back. Unfortunately, DD has a friend who was running and the friends little sister is my DD's book buddy at school. Book buddy just adores my DD and wanted to run with her, but she is only 7 and did not participate in GOTR so she really had no training for running the race. So I got to babysit/keep track of her, since her mom was walking and was quite a bit behind us to start. About .75 miles from the end the mom catches up to me. So I give her the kid and go chasing after my DD, who was with another friend and her mom up ahead. We beat DD's last 5k time by only 10 seconds or so, finishing in 48:51. DD got a medal. They offered me one, but I declined as even though I paid to run, I would rather see the kids get them. There was a nice spread of food and water at the end. It really is a terrific program, and I wish more schools in our area participated in it. They do a program for middle schoool girls, Girls on Track, as well. I am hoping they do it at DD's middle school next year, if not maybe I could figure out a way to coach!

Of course after that running, DD wanted to go to Denny's to eat. I had breakfast (at 11 am) so am not having lunch. I will tell you that not having had my coffee I am feeling pretty tired. And when we got home we took a 2 mile walk through the neighborhood to check out the community wide garage sales. I am ready for a nap now, then off to grocery shop while DH plays golf.

My kids do a race every other saturday at a local parkway. My 3 yr old does a 1/8mile and my 5 year old does 1/2mile. They love it and its so much fun. Free too!

Good Sunday Morning Incredibles!!

What a busy week and weekend we have been having! After a short nap yesterday, DD and I stopped at Dunkin Donuts for coffee for me, a coolatta for her. Then we were off to Walmart to shop, it wasn't too bad at 4pm. Then we came home and went in the pool (i had to vacuum it) and I watered all the garden/flowers. DH came home and we had a light dinner, it was really hot. Just relaxed finally.

Today is house cleaning and laundry and getting ready for the week ahead. I was going to run this morning (didn't "have" to) but it was raining pretty hard so I opted to stay in bed and sleep!

Amy-let us know how you do on your race.

Good morning, everyone! I only have a minute since my eight month old DD has been horribly sick since I got home from my race yesterday but I wanted to tell you about it...

I did it! I finished a 10K. All running, no walking or stopping, hills and all! My official time was 1:02.07 with a pace of 10:01. I finished 763 out of 1207, 45 out of 94 in my age group and 301 out of 604 in gender group. I rocked it! It was horribly humid, at 90% and it was in the upper 70s. The finish line was at Notre Dame Stadiums 50 yard line. Now I don't like Notre Dame AT ALL but that was awesome... and not even 10 minutes after I crossed the finish line, down came the rain. I feel on top of the world. I did it.

My brother's ex-girlfriend and I are pretty good friends. She claims I inspired her to run and she recently ran 3.5 miles straight for the first time. She's now asking me if I'll do the Indianapolis Half with her on October 16th. I talked to DH and he said to go for it, that since it's only 3 hours from here we'll make a weekend of it and take the kids to the Children's Museum and all. It's exactly 19 weeks away. A 10K wasn't exactly easy but I did it... do you guys think I'm nuts if I do this thing?

I talked to DH and he said to go for it, that since it's only 3 hours from here we'll make a weekend of it and take the kids to the Children's Museum and all. It's exactly 19 weeks away. A 10K wasn't exactly easy but I did it... do you guys think I'm nuts if I do this thing?

Awesome job on the 10k!!! The weather can be tough sometimes, but as you said you rocked it!! INCREDIBLE job!:thumbsup2

I definately think you can do the half in October. The two training plans I have are 16 weeks, so you definately can do it. And since you have already done a 10k, you have a good base to build on. I say go for it!!! And it is far enough before the Princess that you can recover and train again.

GO FOR IT!!!

Veronica- I hope you have a nice relaxing day today!

Lisa- Great job on the C25K. Remember the saying "slow and steady wins the race". Think of the C25K as slow and steady.....the day will come when you win your race! Sticking to that motto is much better than over doing it. Your doing awesome!

Jess- You do ROCK:thumbsup2 Great time! I visited notre dame once during a cross country road trip with a friend. Im not a ND fan either but what a great campus and stadium.....Did you feel like RUDY? (Hopefully you saw the movie or you will have no idea what Im talking about). I think you definitely should do the 1/2 in oct. your already just about 1/2 way their. I hope your little one is feeling better soon.

I pushed myself alittle last night and ran 4 miles in 48:00. Its my personal distance record! It felt great and I am so confident now more than ever that I can complete a 1/2. I think for the next few weeks I will alternate 3 & 4 miles runs 4x/week. Then in july I will start my 10K training plan. I hope you all have a great sunday!

Jess, awesome job on the 10k!

4M this morning was pretty good. 42:16 chip time, 10:34 pace. I had a pace of under 10 minutes after the first mile, and had to slow WAY down, since a) I've been training close to an 11 minute pace and b) I have a 10k in seven days. LOL.

374/556 for age and gender, 4185/5464. Not bad, I thought, Could've gone a bit faster, but didn't want to push it.

At least thats how I remember it;)This is exactly what my son tries to do when I try to get him to run with me. It works better if he rides his scooter alongside me for our runs. I would love for him to run with me one day, but he doesn't seem too interested. I think after I do my race next week and he sees that maybe he'll want to try it.

Congratulations to everyone on your runs. Looks like you all are doing really well.

I'm still walk/running half and half, and that's working good for me, and really concentrating on following ww and losing some weight. I did register for my first official 5k on the 16th, and after work I went and ran the route of it, and it was pretty flat, so that made me happy.

Hope you're all having a nice weekend.

I don't think you're crazy at all. My first 10k was May 15th, and my first Half is going to be the Disney Wine and Dine on 10/2. After my 10k next Sunday, I'm going to start adding half a mile a week on my long runs.

excellent job amy! Great time!

Mikamah- Maybe once your son sees how fun the races are it might make him more interested. Dont worry if not he is still young and sometimes just going out and running could seem a little boring at that age. Is there any youth runs around your area. Those are usually alot more fun for kids. They run together and people cheer, sometimes there is music and entertainment, etc. Good job on your running. You will do awesome in your first 5K!

Morning everyone!!

Cooler temperatures here in upstate NY, which means comfortable running in the am! Today was perfect, ran 3 miles in 30:29, 10:09 avg pace. Didn't feel like I was running too hard.

Food continues to be a struggle, my weight seems to bounce around the same few pounds and I just can't break through. Patience, I need to be patient. It will happen.

Hope everyone has a good Tuesday!

Weather has been cooler here too. It was great to run last night. No humidity what so ever. I ran around my nana's house since dh was gone at a conference overnight. My parents whatched the kids while I ran. I didnt realize how many hills surrounded my nana's and since I didnt know the area well it seemed like my route went up all of them. I completed 3.66 in 47 minutes. Not to good considering the other night I did 4 in 48. Ya well at least I did it. I have a dinner to go to tonight with a speaker about Patient Centered Medical Home which is what we are doing at my office. Its at a really nice resturaunt in our area called MELT. Im not sure whats on the menu so hopefully there are some healthy options. I will be weighing in today instead of yesterday since I was out of the office I will let you know later how Im doing.

Hope your all having a great start to your week!

Today was weigh in day today. I lost another 1.4lbs. Its coming off slowly but surely.

6 weeks total loss= 14.0lbs

I have decided to add a 20-30 minute workout on my non-running days and tonight I thought I would try some videos on you tube. I did ZUMBA! It was a lot of fun even though it was just me in my basement. It really is a good workout. I realized my hips just dont move like they used too. :rotfl:

Hi everyone!!!

Hope everyone is having a good week-not too many folks posting so I am going to guess we are all busy with life and hopefully being active.

I have had a pair of size 10 jeans in my closet (brand new) for almost 3 years. I have periodically tried them on, and have been unable to get them up or even close to buttoned. I tried them this morning, and while they were quite snug, I got them on and BUTTONED (ok so it took three tries to get them buttoned but still:rotfl2:). I don't think I could wear them comfortably for the day, but with a bit more time I should be able to wear them.

I have set a new mini goal-lose 18 pounds by Sept 3, which is when we leave for Cali for the DL half. Totally managable, just have to stick to plan.

Lindsay, I don't know where I'll stay. The earlier week is the end of school vacation for my son, so I am hoping to make a longer vacation of it, and maybe my sil or sister will come and take him for the race. I always stay value, so probably whichever value has the transportation for the race. I do a christmas club that I get in october, so I'm planning to use most of that to pay for the trip.

Hello all, my name is Beth and I was added to this Incredible group! I am so excited to meet everybody. I am 31, SAHM to two beautiful children- DS4 and DD2, and DW to a wonderful husband who also runs, bikes, etc. We just recently moved back to North Florida from NC for DH's work and we are loving being close to our families again.
I started running pretty seriously again after my DS was born. I trained for and ran my first marathon for the 2007 Disney and now I am hooked. I ran 2 halfs after the full and then two more fills after DD was born with a few halfs sprinkled in there. I am presently taking some time off of fulls since last years MCM and will start training in fall (well actually starting in August) for the Goofy. I also am planning two halfs this fall, Womens half in St Pete and Outback Distance Classic in JAX, both in November.
I am also working on losing the rest of my baby belly and some weight I put on during college and babies, pretty much the normal I guess. I am down about 10 pounds since April and would like to lose another 5. Of course these seem to be the hardest to shake. I am seeing a personal trainer to help with the weight and flattening the tummy and that is going well. We will see!
Anyway, I am so excited to be a part of this group. I have read through this month's thread and you all seem like such a fun group! Yay!

Welcome, Beth!

Veronica, good luck with the weight loss. You can do it! :)

Did a humid 3.5 mi in Central Park tonight... I've started a yoga fusion program on my "off" days and it seems to be helping my stamina a whole ton, if not my speed. We'll see at the 10k on Saturday, I guess. LOL. Sunday begins the real training for the Wine & Dine Half.

Beth-welcome to the Incredibles! We are glad to have you join our merry little gang.

Amy-good luck on your race this weekend. Make sure to let us know how you do.

No running for me today, 6 miles tomorrow. But tonight DD, her friend and I are doing the Relay for Life for American Cancer Society. We start walking at 7pm and can walk as long as we want. We probably won't go much past 10pm, no way can we go all night! DD's friend is spending the night as well, so I may not get too much sleep.

Keep being Incredible friends!! I will try to get a quote up sometime this weekend.

Veronica - the is so awesome that you are doing RFL! :cool1: Have fun with your DD!

Amy - GL on your 10K this weekend!

I have had a rough week, just been feeling under the weather. My parent's are taking the kids tonight for a sleepover, so I am hoping to get some quality time with DH and a good nights sleep to get me out of my funk.
I did have a fantastic run this Tuesday despite not feeling great. I ran a 5K distance in 26:09 which is by far a PR. Too bad it was during a group run instead of a race:lmao:. That is just my luck. The last time I ran anything even close to that time was in a race that I was not chipped for, so no offical time!:rotfl: Just my luck I guess.

I need some help with setting time goals for my races this fall/winter. I am not sure if I should even bother with time goals or if I should see them as fun runs. The Women's Half and Outback Distance Classic are Sunday and Thursday of the same week and then I have the Goofy. My main goal is to finish the Goofy and get all three medals but I am wondering if I should try to do a sub-4:00 in the marathon. My PR is 4:12 from last March and I ran a 1:58 half last Thanksgiving three weeks after a not so great 4:28 at MCM. So any advice? Should I just run and enjoy the accomplishments, or should I attempt the time in the full? Right now my time goal is 10:00/mile for both the half and full and I don't have any time goals for the two halfs in November.

Amy-awesome job on the 10k!!:thumbsup2 Misting stations, what a great idea. Hope maybe they will have something like that in Cali for the DL 1/2.

Went to Fleet Feet today and got new running shoes-stuck with the Saucony ProGrid Omni's. Got the new 9's, just came out. I did try on the Asics Gel Kayano, wow, its a nice shoe. But a)at $140, a bit steep and b) the Saucony's just feel "right". Guess I just get really used to something and I can't change. DH got new Asics as well. Mine were $20 more than his somehow, not sure. DD will be going to Fleet Feet soon with her grandpa; he is buying her running shoes for her 5th grade graduation. Our Fleet Feet has a rewards program too, spend $250 and you get a $25 gift certificate. So once DD gets her shoes, I get another $25 to spend on something else for myself!!

I promised you all a new quote, well here it is:

"You were born to run. Maybe not that fast, maybe not that far, maybe not as efficiently as others. But to get up and move, to fire up that entire energy-producing, oxygen-delivering, bone-strengthening process we call running." --Florence Griffith-Joyner

Question for you all, speaking of running shoes: how long to you train in a pair before you take them out to race?

VernRDH

Question for you all, speaking of running shoes: how long to you train in a pair before you take them out to race?

Hmm, I think that depends on a couple things. For me, I got new shoes in early Dec and raced in them for the WDW 1/2 about 5 weeks later. I started running in them almost exclusively as soon as I bought them. But many people I know will gradually break them in by running in both their old and new shoes. Since I tend to run in the same brand/model, I am not as concerned about blistering/other issues since I know what to expect. If I switched brands, I might give myself longer to break them in.

As always, YMMV (your mileage may vary)

I seriously need to get new sneakers. I have a pair of nike air max. I have been running in them on/off (running not the shoes) for about 2 years. Yes you read that right. The crazy part is that they still feel great and look pretty decent too. I know I really need to get a new pair but if they are not bothering me then why do I need to spend money on new ones?

Amy as you can tell from above I am not a shoe expert but I would say if you run in them for a week or 2 with no issues you should be ok for race day.

Howdy Incredibles!

First let me say......:welcome: Beth!

Wow this has been a busy month for me. Finally back from TN...flew back on Wednesday, worked on Thursday & Friday and was at a swim meet for the majority of today! I'm thinking next week will slow down. I have high hopes for fitting in some more runs next week as well as my Wednesday & Friday weight training and my weekly softball game. I'm thinking I'm going to start getting my runs in before I head to work. It will be cooler and then that will leave my nights open for the other things. We have a group that meets on Tuesday nights at the high school football track and does some very intense track workouts. I'd really like to start going to that maybe every other week....we'll see. May be too much with my other activities. Although I don't really consider my softball night much of a work out! Gotta hit the ball before I have to run! :rotfl:

Congrats to all of you and your races! Some really awesome times and really inspiring me to train for a faster pace. My knee has still really been giving me problems but I'm hoping that it is because of my getting back into my weight training. I'm going for my long run tomorrow so I'm hoping for no pain.

Well guess I better get dinner for my crew....actually it's take-N-bake pizza in the oven! :lmao: It's Saturday...pizza day!

Have a Great Sunday!

Happy Sunday Incredibles!!

Patsy-good to see you back and glad you had a nice time. Sometimes to get back into the routine takes a bit, take it slow so that you don't reinjure your knee.

Kind of dreary and blah here today. I ran this morning, 3 miles in 30:09, in a light drizzle. It was nice, though overcast and cool. Beats the heat and humidity any day! Doing laundry now and DD and I made a sock monkey doll from a kit we got her at Easter. It was hard for me to follow the directions, I have no idea how a child is supposed to do it!

Tomorrow is an off day running, then back to it on Tuesday. While I enjoy the off days, it does present more of a challenge with WW, since I don't get those extra points to use! But I am making progress already, got a good start on my way to 145 lbs (which is my goal for Sept 3, when we leave for CA).

Morning Team!!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. The next two weeks are busy, busy for us. Tomorrow is DD's class trip to the local Six Flags park (DH is chaperoning), Thurs is her TKD promotion test, Fri is half day school. Sat is the belt ceremony for TKD and TS3 opens this weekend so we are going to see that. DH's aunt is coming to town for a week from SC, so we will be visiting with her as well. Next week is DD's class picnic and moving up ceremony. And DD has an appt at the orthodontist. WHEW! I'm tired already and we haven't even started!

Looking forward to the end of school and getting into a new schedule for the summer. Also looking forward to more running. I ran 3 miles this morning in 30:22, not bad. Ran in my new shoes, they may take a few runs to feel really good.

Keep being incredible friends!

wow veronica you have a busy couple of weeks planned. I hope you enjoy them. Six flags sounds like fun we havent been there is years. I am looking forward to my kids getting a little older to really enjoy all those parks have to offer.

I ran 4 miles last night in 48:30. It was very humid! I actually had a 5K split time of 35:40 which is an all-time PR. I really slowed down a bit during mile 4 probably because it was all up hill. I decided to run my route backwards but never thought about how many inclines/hills I would have to run up instead of down. Funny thing is I did it faster:confused3. I also had a first of having a bug fly in my mouth. Oh my that was gross.

I hope you all are having a great start to your weeks.

Veronica - wow, that does sound busy. I love Six Flags!

I officially started my Half training last night with 3 miles in 30:59. I've been having some issues with my right knee this week. Might try out a compression brace on my next run, see how that works out.

Nailing down my race schedule for the summer. I have a 5M on 6/26, a 10k on 7/10, and a 4M on 7/17. Need to figure out where to go from there, as the New York races are mostly HMs for a few months, and absurdly long runs for those gearing up for the NYC Marathon.

After my 10K, my DD (8 months old) was in and out of the ER with 106 fevers. That and my DS (3 next month) had croup. Fun stuff. I didn't run for almost a week. I've gotten in three runs since then and my average pace has been 9:40. I'm like... where did that come from? I was hoovering at 10:01-10:05 and now 9:40... and it's easy! Really? I'm doing another 5K on the 26th and I've decided to do the Indianapolis Half on 10/16. Nervous but excited. I'll check back soon. Work is busy today and we're taking the kids to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago tomorrow. Keep kickin' butt, ladies!

Hi amy-good luck with your half training. Be careful sometimes when you start getting knee pain its from over use. If it doesnt get better you might want to try backing off a little.

Hi Jess.....we missed you....how can you forget about us.:confused3 JK
sorry to hear about the kiddos hope they are now feeling better. Gosh :scared1:106 must of been scary. Isnt it funny that after you dont run for a little you get faster.... not sure how that works but I notice too when I miss a run and its been a few days it feels easier and I seem a little quicker (not by much but still its faster in my book:rotfl2:). Your times are looking great and Im sure you will do fine on the 26th. Hope you have a gread day at the aquarium tomorrow sounds like alot of fun.

So today was my week 7 weigh in. I had a tough time this past week and I felt like I did not eat the greatest. I honestly thought I stayed the same or even worse possibly gained. To my surprise it was good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Week 7
Wt loss 2.4lbs
Total loss=16.4lbs

I was amazed and thankful all at the same time. If I can keep it up I will definitely be able to reach my goal weight by the princess 1/2. I still have 43.6lbs to go in 8 months and 2 weeks. I think I can....I think I can..... I think I can.......Thats what I will keep telling myself.

Good evening Incredibles!!!!!
"You were born to run. Maybe not that fast, maybe not that far, maybe not as efficiently as others. But to get up and move, to fire up that entire energy-producing, oxygen-delivering, bone-strengthening process we call running." --Florence Griffith-JoynerThanks, I needed this tonight. I have my first 5k tomorrow, and am a little nervous. I know I can do it, and it doesn't matter how fast, I'm just going to finish it. But I want to be under 45 minutes. I seem to run 16 min miles for 3 miles, so I hope I can beat that. Of course my timing is my mickey mouse watch, so not very accurate. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

I picked up my packet and was wondering if people wore the t-shirts or not. I googled a running your first race article that said not to wear the t-shirt because it could bring you bad luck and make you look like a rookie. Well, I am a rookie, but don't want to look like one. :rotfl:

Lindsay- congrats on your loss this week!! You're rocking it, girl.

Veronica- Hope you busy week is going well.

Amy- congrats on your 10k!

Beth- welcome and I hope you enjoyed your night alone with DH.

Keep up the great running, ladies!! I'll be back tomorrow to tell you how I survived my race!!!!

DO NOT WEAR THAT SHIRT UNTIL YOU HAVE EARNED IT!! I mean that in all honesty. It is bad luck to wear it for the race, and it is supposed to be a shirt for FINISHING the race, not for just signing up. But take it with you and wear it after and WEAR IT WITH PRIDE!!

I am sure you will do great, you may be very surprised at what a race can do for your time. I'll be rooting for you from here!!

You'll definitely appreciate wearing it more in the days following the race. I saw a girl on the street today wearing the shirt from the 10k I ran last weekend, and I was like, "rock on."

Amy - Congrats on starting the half training!:cheer2: You are going to have such a busy summer of races! It is way too hot down here in Fl to race for me. I just can't do it. I had knee pain a few years ago and found out it was from not changing shoes often enough, but I used a pattellar band and it helped a lot.

Jess - Hi! I am new here. I also have little ones, and my DS ran super high fevers when he was little and I feel your stress:hug:. Hope all is better now and that you had fun at the aquarium.

Lindsay - you are rocking the wieght loss!!!:woohoo: You can do it!

Kathy - hope your 5K was great!

I have had an ok week so far, just feeling under the weather with a summer cold. I am trying to take it easy in the running department, so I didn't run this weekend or Monday and then tried to run last night. Well that was a disaster! My stomach hurt from the curry I made for dinner and it was still blisteringly HOT:scared1:! and I left at 8:30! I ended up cutting the run short and walking home. I will try again tomorrow and see what happens. I am supposed to run a two mile time trial for my PT to set time goals for this fall, but I am thinking it will be pretty ugly:rolleyes1.

Until later,

Well, I'll be wearing my new t-shirt tomorrow!!!! I posted on the BL thread, but rambled, so I figured I'd copy and post it here too. I guess it's my first race report!!!

I ran my first 5K!!!!!!

It was really so amazing. A friend of mine did it too, and we met a few other women we knew, so when we got to the park it was nice to chat with them. My sister came with her two kids and watched Michael for me. This was a womans run for a scholarship fund for this woman Louise Rossetti who's daughter was brutally killed in 1981 at the age of 26. Louise started running to deal with her loss, so on the way up to the starting line, I met her and said hello, and then I started to cry (for the first time). Of note, I am a cry-er. The death of my mom is a year ago the 26th, and I've really tried to focus on the running to help keep me from turning to food, so I got it together, and we laughed because my sister and friend are also cry-ers, and Karen my friend said, oh, you must be irish.

We went to the back of the starting line, and the race began, and we ran by Michael and gang, and I was going a little faster than I should, and getting very short of breath, so I slowed down, and walked for a bit, and thought, what was I thinking to even attempt this, but I plugged away, walking and jogging, and when I hit one mile there was a man there telling us our times, and I was at 13.30 seconds, which is faster than I usually go, so that really pumped me up to keep at it, and mile 2 I was at 28 something. My goal was to finish, but I really wanted to finish below 45 minutes since I usually average 15-16 minutes per mile, so when I had one mile left and it was only 28 min gone, I was so excited, and thought I was going to make it in less than 45.

The last 100 yards or so, is down the driveway of the park and to the finish line, and I could hear everyone cheering, and I started to get teary again before I even got down there, but I kept it together, and ran the rest through the crowd, and saw Michael and the others who had finished, but once I went past them, I saw 43 min on the time clock, and was psyched. I went through and got some water, and composed myself, and went caught up with them. My time was 43:19 with a pace of 13.57 min/miles. I came in 357th out of probably 367 runners, but I don't care. I finished what I set out to do, did better than I thought I could, and am so proud of myself. I went faster than I have ever gone. I set my first PR, and am so excited.

Now, that feeling in the first mile of "what was I thinking?" is now completely gone and replaced with, "when can I do another race?"

I want to thank all of you here for all the support, encouragement, and inspiration you have given me.

I... need... to... run... I'm gonna die if I don't run today. Seriously. Do you know how funny it is for me to say that? I used to weigh 268lbs... I didn't run! I did an easy breezy three on Monday, Tuesday I couldn't because it was pouring and my parents don't have a treadmill, yesterday we went to the aquarium and my grandma's and the drive back home and my DS STILL wouldn't go to bed til 9:30 after his busy day. I've been itching to go for seven (first time) but there's so much going on today. Grr... I'll make something happen today. I need it for my mental sanity... and for my scale's sake. I'm about to take a sledge hammer to it!

Amy - Two races next week? Holy bananas! :thumbsup2 I have six before my half in October, one being a 5K next Saturday. I'm gonna break that 30 minute mark!

mikamah - Congrats on your first race... and for becoming a running addict. I ran my first 5K in May, my 10K in June and as soon as I was done with that 5K, I went through all the fliers in my packet and added eight races between now and Thanksgiving Day!

Bephus - Welcome to the team! You're gonna love it here! Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. I hope you kick that to the curb STAT! How old are your kids? My DS will be 3 in like 3 weeks and my DD is 8 months.

mommyto2pirates - Congrats on the weight loss! What the heck is your secret? I have like 20lbs to go til I'm at goal and I'm just STUCK. Or better yet, it goes up. I really think I need to duct tape my mouth shut! And I think you can hit your goal in 89 months. I lost 100lbs in 11 so it's yours for the taking!!!

:cool1::thumbsup2:banana::woohoo::yay:

YOU ROCKED IT GIRLFRIEND!!!! Way to go!!! And now you are addicted to racing, welcome to the insanity. I am very proud of you.

So, as if I don't have enough stress, Tuesday night at 10:30 my phone rings (i'm thinking who the heck is calling me so late) It was my co-worker. The boss had called her, his wife was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He had said that she thought she had a stomach flu, he thought she had eaten bad seafood salad. When he got home, she was disoriented and had a fever. She refused to go to the doctor. Their daughter is an MD, she told him to just call the ambulance. When she got to the hospital, her blood sugar was over 900. Yep thats right, 900. Turns out she is insulin dependent diabetic. She is still in the hospital and will be for a few days. He did not come to the office yesterday, and we are only working half day today. She hasn't had a physical or routine gyn visit in years and is in complete denial about this. She is refusing any other tests (like a pap smear or mammogram). And to top it off, her mother (who is in her 80's and lives in NJ) calls the office and is P!ssed because no one called to tell her her daughter is in the hospital. Can we say DRAMA?

On a brighter note, I ran 3 miles this morning in my best time yet, 29:08. 9:43 avg pace. Not too bad. DD had a blast on her trip yesterday, even though it poured rain. Tonight is the TKD test. Each day I get to tick one more item off the list!

Kathy - great job!!! Welcome to the insanity of the race obsessed:rotfl:

Jess- DS just turned 4, he is the fever-prone one. We have done 2 ER visits in the middle of the night with him:sick: DD just turned 2, and boy is she 2! Drama queen doesn't quite cover it:lmao:

Time trial was canceled last night b/c it was raining cats and dogs with major lightening. Will meet with PT tomorrow for form analysis and running plan. I am a little skeptical about it all but we will see. I am trying to be open minded about trying new techniques to improve running but kindof feel like I know what I am doing. Oh well, she has helped me lose 12 lbs and the weight training is great. We will see.

Going to start ramping up my running to 4-5 tomes a week and only XT twice a week to start training for HM in November. Should be interesting in the heat :scared1:

have a great Friday ladies!

Beth- I know this heat is a killer to run in. I also worry thought that my official training for the princess 1/2 will start mid november and go until end of february. Im more concerned about the frigid temps, any suggestions?

Kathy- I know I said it on the BL boards but I will say it again. YOU ROCK GIRL:thumbsup2 Im so glad you enjoyed yourself and cant wait to hear about the next race you decide to do. You will be so ready for the princess!!!

Veronica- Oh the drama! I hope things have settled down for you.

Jess- I have no secrets to the weight loss. I am following Weight Watchers and running at least 3xper week and cross training (zumba) 2-3 nights a week. I am making sure I drink 6-8 glasses of water a day too. Im actually shocked at how well I am doing. The last time I tried to loose the weight it took me 11months and I lost 17lbs. I am at 7weeks and already lost 16.2. Its amazing.

I had another great run last night. It was perfect weather. 70's and no humidity. I ran for an hour and made it 4.75 miles. I have another 5K next sunday the 27th. I have a question for you experienced runners, should I be taking shorter runs throughout the week prior to the 5K or do you only taper when you are training for a longer run? Not sure what is the best thing to do. I really want to try to beat my last time of 38:00, I would really love to get closer to 36:00.

mommyof2pirates - I think you're doing great on the weight loss. I just need to remind myself of how far I've come and the last 20 are not gonna be as easy as the first 90-some. As far as tapering or what not before a 5K, I do my last long run the week before (Sunday). I'll do two runs of no more than 4 miles before then and try to rest 1-2 days before the race, preferably two. I did that the last two races and went down in my pace. I have another 5K next Saturday and I WILL be going under a 10:00 min pace... for sure... and resting Friday before the race (my last workout - x-training - being on Thursday AM)

VernRDH
06-18-2010, 05:39 PM
Lindsay, you are doing awesome on the weight loss. Regarding tapering, I would say run your last "long" or equivalent run a week before and then maybe run 1 or 2 slow short runs. Then rest the last day or so before the race.

Beth-changing up training can be a good thing. I moved to a more intermediate training plan, it is paying off so far.

OK shameless plug time. I was chosen to be a featured "frunner" by the local newspapers running blog. You can check me out here:

I trained in NC for the Disney in 2006 and it was interesting to say the least. I went from running in the snow to running the marathon in 80 degree heat! I would try to get one or two runs a week in on a treadmill for warmer temps. Usually it is nice weather in March in Orlando, so you might even run faster:banana:.

Good morning Incredibles and Happy Weekend!!

I'm almost completely recovered from my race. I will try to run today but won't be able to get out til this afternoon, and it's going to be very hot here. My left hip and right ankle bothered me a bit the past couple days, but I ran harder than I ever have, and at 209 pounds, that's some stress on my 46 yo joints.:rotfl: My hip is fine today, and the ankle almost back to normal. I think over the summer, I am aiming to run 3-4 day's a week, and to slowly increase my distance. I can do 3 miles now, so my goal is to be able to do 6-7 miles by the end of september. I think if I can do half of a half marathon in half a year, then I will be able to book the princess and be able to do the half 6 months later. Was that confusing?:rotfl:

Veronica- I loved the article about you. You and your daughter must have been so excited, and I'm sure you have inspired so many others in your area with all that you have done. Last fall, I got an email from another baseball mom, who I don't know real well about the c25k and how she had just run her first 5k, and it was so inspiring to me, just another neighborhood mom getting out there and running. I'm going to bet there's at least a few women like us who will read your article and be inspired to get out and run. Your daughter is so cute.

Amy- Nice job on your new distance record!!! Very exciting!!!

Jess- Wow, congrats on 90+ pounds gone. I have heard the last pounds are the hardest to come off, and you should be so proud of how far you have come. I always like to think that the longer it takes to lose the weight and the harder it comes off is a relation to how long it stays off, and feel if you work harder to lose it, you're likely never to regain it. Plus it becomes more of a lifestyle change than a quick diet.

Lindsay- Isn't it amazing how ww works? If you follow the plan, the weight comes off. It's always been that way for me. Once I stop tracking, I lose the control of exactly how much I am eating, and the weight comes back on. When I went to meetings, I was never one who weighed in and had a gain, and didn't know how that could have happened. It is such a good program, and you are rocking it, girl!! Nice job!!

Beth- good luck with your trainer today. Even though you might know as much as her about running, listen and take it all in, and maybe she will have a little tip or two that might help you out as some point. It must be fun to have a trainer, but I don't know if I could tolerate someone telling me what to do.:rotfl:

Have a nice weekend everyone. :goodvibes We're off to baseball this morning, and have a cookout and campout with the cub scouts tonight so that will be fun in the heat.

Good morning, everyone! Tomorrow will have been a whole week since my last run and it's really pissing me off! We had a huge storm come through here Friday night and we have been without power for the last 38 hours. They're saying no power until Tuesday morning. Wonderful. Thank God we got a generator lent to us yesterday evening so all our food doesn't spoil but I still have no way to cook, my house is 80 degrees, no shower, no toilets (we have a pump). Running wise, it's a nay because 1)no treadmill, 2) the YMCA is closed and 3) it's 90 degrees. No thanks. SUCKS!

Anyway, I was going to do personals but my little lady here wants mommy to entertain her with a balloon. See you all soon!

Jess sorry to hear about your power. that really sucks! I hope it gets fixed soon and you can get back to your running.

I am hoping to get a run in at some point today. Its going to be in the 90's so if I dont get it in soon Im in trouble. Dh just went to the local baseball stadium to try to get us seats for todays game at 135pm. It depends what time he gets back if I can run or not. My plan B would be to run later tonight after the sun goes down. Either way I am determined to get it done!

Hope you all enjoy Fathers Day today!

Hope everyone has a great Father's Day! I volunteered at a race this morning for the first time - a 5 miler in Central Park. It was pretty fun. I mostly helped give out bib numbers - you would be surprised, when the line gets really long, how simple things like the alphabet start escaping you. :rotfl2:

After the race, they had kid's races. So adorable to see the 2 and 3 year old kids running up the last 100 yards where the New York Marathon finishes.

Afternoon ladies!!

Hope all the dads in your life are having a great Fathers Day. Mine is off with his GF somewhere, he is a busy man. DH, he is working on his project car today (89 Camaro convertible). We have already had "dinner" and are going in the pool soon. It is very warm and humid here. I ran at 7am and it was really humid and yucky. Should have gotten up earlier, but the dog woke me up at 4:45 when it was storming. I fell back to sleep and didn't wake up until 6:45am.

Weight is coming down again, I am 15.4 lbs from my goal for the DL half. Only 0.6 more pounds and I will see a 1 and a 5 in my weight as the first two numbers!!!:thumbsup2

Jess, sorry to hear about your lack of power. And not being able to run. Hope the weather changes for you soon and you can get back out there.

Lindsay-have fun at the baseball game. We are going to one next weekend, our local AAA team (actually part of the Astros organization, funny we are in NY). It is alumni night for my college, you get a gift and free hot dog and soda.

Amy-isn't volunteering fun? It is nice to be on the other side for a change. It really makes you appreciate the people who support you when you run.

Stay cool if its warm where you are and hydrate well. Enjoy the last of the weekend!

amy- glad you had fun volunteering. It is funny how after awhile when your busy your brain does crazy things. I help my uncle out occasional with an italian food stand he has that he takes to festivals (garlic fest, chili pepper festival, etc) After an hour or two I have a hard time adding the prices together. :rotfl: People probably think Im dumb but really after an hour of serving bruschetta and peppers with mozzerella in the 90 degree heat it makes your brain cells diminish. :lmao:

Veronica- glad you were able to get your run in before the heat came. It was a hot one here today too. We went to the baseball game. Its the AAA league for the Phillies. They played the Yankees so the crowd was a little crazy. My 5 year old yelled at some older guy that was wearing a yankees shirt. He said "the yankees stink...go back to where you came from" I almost died. I was so embarressed. I guess he does hear more than we think..... The phillies fans around us thought it was great and cheered him on which made it even worse.

Since we were at the game until 5pm and then went to my nanas for a fathers day cook out and we didnt get home until 915p I unfortunately did not get my run in. :guilty: I am really disappointed in myself the past few days. I need to re-focus and get back on track.

Well tomorrow is a new day....I am exhausted and completely sunburned so I am off to relax and enjoy whats left of the weekend.

Good morning, everyone! Well, our power is finally back on... after on 47 hours! What a mess. I finally got to the Y yesterday. Did 3.5 miles. Was gonna go for 4 but I didn't want to miss my power pump class. I was bummed my time was 34:50 for that run and my pace was 9:57 since I've been running at 9:40 lately but I did take a week off so go figure. I'll do a three mile run tomorrow and get ready for my 5K on Saturday. It's my sixth wedding anniversary so I'm hoping to really knock one out of the park for that occasion!

mommyof2pirates - I had a hard time getting refocused too. I made myself a to-do list yesterday and that helped so much with watching my eating and getting my exercise in and stuff around the house. I did it again today. I'm a list person so it works like a charm.

Vern - Hurray on your weight loss! You're really rocking it! Oh to see a 1 and a 5 as the first two numbers in my weight... soon enough. Well, not quite. I'm still in the 170s!

Amy - How awesome that you volunteered for a race! I would definitely like to but right now I'm being selfish and am so fixated on running the races.

Last night I ran a 5K at a higher exertion than my normal speed. I completed it in 36:40. It was really hot and humid even at 8pm. I am really wanting to run my race in 35:00 on sunday. Im hoping for cooler weather...even rain would be nice. I think I may be aiming too high but why not reach for the stars!!!

I have now been running and doing weight watchers for 8 weeks. Here are my accomplishments:

16.6 pound weight loss (check out my journal for updated pics)
My 5K then 41:57; My 5K now 36:40
Longest run then 3.1m; Longest run now 4.75m
My clothes then fit tight (I would have to open my button on my pants after lunch in order to breathe); My clothes now fit comfortably and are actually now a little loose.

I hope to continue to my ultimate goal of loosing 60lbs total and running the disney princess 1/2 in feb 2011.

Thanks for helping me along the way...you all are a great team to be on and are so inspiring. Keep up the good work:thumbsup2

Lindsay, you are doing awesome, and well on your way to your goal for the princess. Congratulations!! I am so inspired by the improvement in your running times, and as time goes on, I hope to be able to see some improvements in mine too.

Glad you've got power again. THat must have been so hard, especally with the little ones. Happy Anniversary and good luck on your 5K!

Weight is coming down again, I am 15.4 lbs from my goal for the DL half. Only 0.6 more pounds and I will see a 1 and a 5 in my weight as the first two numbers!!!:thumbsup2Whoo hoo!!! Awesome job on the weight loss. It is such a great feeling to enter a new decade on the scale. My goal for the summer is to get back to ONE-derland.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I bet the little kids were just adorable, and you wonder how many of them will grow up and actually run the marathon one day.

I did 3 miles yesterday and am planning to do 3.5 tomorrow. I'm going to try to add half a mile every couple of weeks, to increase my endurance. Looking at another 5K in august, but I need to wait and see if it's the same night as the cookout at my son's camp, and if it is I won't be able to do it. I think I'd like to try and run a race at least every 2 months as motivation to keep up with the running. Last day of school is tomorrow, so I'm going to sit down and make a schedule with my son so he know's that 2 mornings before camp we'll be running, and he can scooter along, or we'll go to the track, and on the weekend, I'm going to leave him at my brother's for a hour and do a longer run. I have a history of letting the exercise sort of fall to the wayside during the hot summer months, but I can't do that this year if I'm going to run the princess. I need to make it my priority. I feel so much better on the days I've gotten a run/walk in.

Hope you're all having a good week. Happy Summer!!!!

Kathy you are doing so good with your running. I find that having races every month or two are really helpful too. Great job on making a plan to get the running done. Once we commit and sign up for the princess there is no turning back. What are your plans for running during the winter? Will you run outside and just suck it up? I hate the idea of having to use the TM.

I started in february and ran when it was in the 20s a few times, but we had little snow and ice this past winter. If it's a snowy winter, I might look into joining the Y or a gym with a track. I'd be nervous I'd slip on the ice outside. I don't have a treadmill, and don't really have space for one. I'm also thinking it would be good to run inside for the heat aspect, as we increase our distance outside here it will be cold, but we could have really high temps for the princess, so I'd want to be used to that.
I still can't believe I'm actually running and liking it!!

I have been crazy this week, DS is off school for the week (well preschool:rolleyes1) so I have been working overtime to get appointments in and I took care of DNefew today. Anyway, it has been busy around here.

Finally feeling better from the yuckyness I have been battleing for the past two weeks. I broke down and went to the Dr. Sunday and got antibiotics. They think it was a cold that progressed into a sinus infection. I am finally without a sore throat, so that is good. I ran yesterday with a group that I found that runs around a local mall here in Jax. I am trying to get some speedwork in and I find I am more motivated in a group. I didn't run as fast as two weeks ago, but it was super hot and humid, so I feel good about my run. We then did an abs class after the run, and that was brutal! I like the group and plan on running with them at least a few times a month. I will use it as a 3.5 mile tempo run and see how it goes.

My SIL is going to run the Disney Half with me in Jan! :love:I am so excited. It will be fun to run with her and it will be nice to have company for that race. Now I just need a buddy for the full, any takers?:)

Run on ladies!

I haven't been a very good team member lately. I plan to catch up with everyone's posts, but I wanted to explain my absence. We have been busy, but there's been more than just busyness going on. For the last eight weeks or so, my throat has been bothering me. It started as just a burning sensation, and it progressed to a feeling that my throat was constantly swollen, and I could barely swallow. Of course, my mind immediately jumped to all the worst case scenarios.

After doctors first checked to see if my allergies were the culprit (I was pretty sure this wasn't the case), I visited the ENT and was diagnosed with laryngopharyngeal reflux. This is a condition similar to GERD, but you don't feel the heartburn. Because the reflux is "silent" it can damage your voice box and your throat before you realize that there is a problem. I was so thankful to find out the cause of my symptoms, but I have had to make some big lifestyle changes. If left untreated, LPR can cause permanent damage or even cancer, so I have had to really adjust my diet. I can have no caffeine (bye-bye to my Diet Sundrop addiction and chocolate), no tomato-based products, no fatty or fried foods, and very little dairy. What that leaves me with is a lot of fruits and veggies (raw are preferred). It will take months to control this and for my throat to heal, but I am hopeful that I will eventually be able to eat some of the foods that I love, even if they are in much smaller portions.

Additionally, this condition is linked to asthma, which I was diagnosed with last year. It is possible that the asthma was triggered because of the silent reflux, so I am hopeful that if the reflux is controlled, the asthma will go away as well. Another positive is that I have lost 11 pounds! Initially, I lost weight because my throat was hurting, and I was worried. Now, I am losing weight because I am living on fruits and veggies. I would much rather be reflux-free, but I am excited to be near my pre-pregnancy weight (and it's only taken 8 1/2 years and a medical condition to do that!).

Through all of this, the one thing I have stuck with is my running! We've been having temps near 100, and the humidity makes it feel hotter than that, but I am determined to train for a Labor Day 10K race. I hope I am getting back in the frame of mind to participate here and keep up with all of you. As Jesus said, "Life is more important than food" (but I do admit that I miss the food)!

P.S. Diet Sundrop is a local drink that is a soft drink similar to (but better than) Mt. Dew. With the exception of pregnancy, I have had one every morning and afternoon for the past 13 years--it was like my coffee.

Beth- how exciting glad your SIL is doing the 1/2 with you.:cool1: I will pass on the full but once I see how the 1/2's I plan to do go I might one day consider.:rolleyes1

Lauren- I was wondering where you've been. Sorry to hear about your condition. I hope things improve. Stinks about the food you cant eat but  for the weight loss. You gotta look at the positive side!

Great job with keeping up on your runs. Im sure you will do great at the 10K in sept. I know about the heat. Its been torture around here too. The humidity is disgusting.

Beth & Lauren, hope you are both doing better!

Did my first "night" race tonight. I'm a little frustrated by my time, though. 3 miles - 31:26. 10:29 pace. It was, however, 87 degrees, and I don't think I could have done much better than I did, under the circumstances. It's just frustrating to do all the *right* things (hydrate, sleep well, no alcohol), and be felled by weather conditions you aren't equipped to handle.

Amy- sorry your race wasn't what you hoped for:(. The heat is brutal here too, I hate running outside in it.

I am very excited, I book our room for marathon weekend and beyond. We are staying at CBR in a pirate room. It should be great. I love planning vacations <3.

Hi Incredible teammies!!!

I hope you all are doing well. I know everyone gets busy this time of year, myself included. But remember to take time for yourself!!

Lauren, sorry to hear about your condition. Hope that things settle down for you and your new diet works out for you.

Beth, how fun to have your SIL run with you!! I ran with my FIL, and he is running with me again at DL. Its nice to have a partner.

Amy, sorry your race did not go well. I do not run at night at all, so I don't do any races in the evening. Shoot, I don't do races that start after 9am! I am such a morning runner.

Lindsay, keep up the good work with the weight loss. I saw your pix on your journal, can definately see a difference.

For those of you doing Princess, god bless you running outside through January and February. Not me, I am a *wimp* extraordinaire when it comes to cold weather. 30 degrees is my minimum temp and it has to be dry, no ice or snow on the road.

My weight has been up (mostly) and down this week, poor eating choices. Ran 8 miles this morning, was nice out now that the humidity has broken. Ran twice this week in 98% humidity, once was fine, second time was awful. Just plain awful. But hey, its all good. Our life should settle a bit now that school is over. DD is having a friend over tomorrow, then we are going to a ball game in the evening. I get the next 2 Fridays off, so I am looking forward to resting a bit those days.

Beth- CBR pirate room sounds awesome! My boys would love that.

Veronica- I know the heat and humidity has been a killer. I love the summer but am looking forward to running in the fall.:)

Tomorrow is my 5K. Its at our local single A baseball field. (the iron pigs)Phillies. The race begins and ends inside the stadium. You run most of the race outside and when you return into the stadium they announce your name over the PA system. I thought this sounded pretty cool. Im excited although a little nervous. It has been so hot and humid around here this week and tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest. 90 and humid and a heat index of 100. The race does not start until 9am. Hopefully it isnt too bad. I tried to drink alot of water today to make sure I am good and hydrated. I will let you know how it goes!

Lindsay- Good luck on your race today!! It sounds awesome to run into the stadium. We saw the Iron Pigs last summer with the Pawtucket red sox. The minor league games are so fun and affordable. The heat and humidity are tough to run in, so take your time and do the best you can with the heat. Having only done one race, I would think you must have to take weather into consideration on your times for each individual race you do. You are going to rock it, girl!!!! Have a blast!!!!

Beth and Lauren- Sorry you have both been under the weather, and hope you are feeling much better soon.

Amy-:hug:Sorry your race was not what you hoped for, but you did it, and finished in a pretty impressive time for 87 degrees.

Veronica-My eating has been bad this week too. Today we have a mass for my mom, and a gathering afterward, and tomorrow I am determined to get totally back on track, and start tracking all my food again. It's hard in the summer, and so easy to just have one thing after another, but I did that last year and gained 15 pounds, so this year, I will keep in control lose it. I would be the DL half marathon is a pretty awesome motivator for you.

Have a nice sunday.:)

Hi everyone! Just got finished with my race. It was fun although quite difficult. Extreme hills and alot of them. Heat was 86 and very very humid. But I did it. I posted a review and pics on my journal. There is a link in my sig if anyone is interested in checking it out. I cut another minute off of my time. I believe my time was 37:20. Its not official but its close enough.

Have a great day.

Lindsay- yay! Great job. Hills are so killer and to drop time with them and the heat is impressive.

Had a crappy run this morning. Went out too fast and the heat got me. We had to stop early and walk back so we wouldn't hurt ourselves. DH lost 2.5 lbs of sweat! I am going to try to get up before the sun to run a few days and run evenings some days to try to beat the heat.
Hope you all had a great weekend.

Hi everyone! I forgot to post on here over the weekend and I'm about to go to the Y, but wanted to tel lyou guys about my 5K this weekend... I was INCREDIBLE!
It thunderstormed through all of registration and at the starting like but as soon as the gun went off, it stopped... it was just 100% humidity then! The race was all along the river here and I LOVED the course. Very scenic and fun to run. Anyway, right before mile run, I had two runners behind me tell me I had great legs. That just gave me so much more fuel. Anyway, I finished 29:17... 2:03 faster then the 31:20 I ran in my first 5K exactly FIVE weeks ago. I went from a 10:05 pace to a 9:25 pace in five weeks! I was so happy I almost cried! I jsut wnated to break 30:00, not smoke it! It was my and DH's 6 year anniversary so that puppy was all for him! I'm still so excited about it. I'm waiting on the official results because there was a chance I placed in my age group (the race had like 200 people, pretty small).

Anyway, I'm starting my half-marathon training program today... off to the Y!

All my Incredible girls are rocking the 5k's!!! I am so proud of all of you!!

Day off for me today (from running at least). Back to it tomorrow. I may end up getting some time off work this week, maybe next too. My boss' wife may be discharged from the hospital today and he needs to stay with her for a while. Aside from the diabetes (insulin 5 times per day!) there are "other complications" that he is not discussing per her wishes. So we have no idea what else is wrong with her. Or what impact her illness will have on the office. But the rule is, if he is out, he still pays us no matter what.

Humidity is supposed to break here soon, which will be good for running.

Keep being Incredible girls, you are all awesome!!

Hey veronica glad to hear you may have some paid time off even though its not under the greatest circumstances. At least you will have some summer days to enjoy. These are the days that I really wish I would have chose to be a teacher. I try to take most of my vacation days during the summer so I cant complain I guess.

This heat and humidity is horrible. I went out running tonight around 615pm since my dh has a softball game and had to leave by 7. Let me tell ya it was torture. This was the worst weather Ive ran in yet. I feel like I am taking steps backwards with my running. It takes me so much just to keep going and not stop and walk. I know its probably just the weather but Im getting a little discouraged.

Heres wishing for a cold front.:wizard:

Lindsay, it will help you because learning to breath in different conditions will help when its time to race. Thats why the elite athletes train in Colorado or other high altitude places. Then your body learns how to make do with less.

Lindsay, great job with the hills! We have lots of hills around here, and I just think how training and racing on them will make the Princess so much easier. I know there are a couple of inclines on the course, but for the most part, it will be FLAT!

Jess, congrats on beating your time! That is so exciting, and how fun to do it on a special day.

Veronica, enjoy your time off. How nice that you get paid!

I am taking this week off from running. I have been having a twinge in my lower leg near my shin for several weeks. I am worried that if I keep training without a break it will end up being a stress fracture. I guess I'll see how it feels Saturday, which will have been a week since my last run. Since my son has been playing in a baseball tournament since last Thursday, I haven't really had time to do much anyway (other than repeatedly washing the dirt out of his WHITE jersey), so a short break will be nice. My son's team is the number one seed in the district finals tonight, so we're hoping they can keep playing well and finish the tournament with a trophy!

Hope everyone has an Incredible Tuesday!

Lauren- I hope your shin is feeling better soon! Good luck to your son, I hope their team gets the trophy!!!!

The gods have answered my prayers:littleangel::littleangel::littleangel:
It was so nice out tonight still warm but not hot and a lot less humid. There was even a cool breeze. I ran again tonight and although the cooler weather did not turn me into a speed demon it allowed me to run 4 miles straight without stopping and walking!!! a PR for me:woohoo: It took me 50:34 but thats ok it felt good and it was enjoyable. I didnt even get the urge to stop and walk.

I also stepped on the scale today....even though I know Im not supposed to weigh myself daily....I was down 1.4 from yesterday. 1 more lb and I hit the 20 mark. This was my goal. I wanted to loose 20 before vacation and we leave saturday!!!! Heres hoping I can get the pound off quickly.

Good night ladies.
