Are there ever any get togethers for DVC members in Upstate NY? I have noticed some from other areas in the country. Just curious.

not sure what you mean upstate as I am not sure where Greenfield Center is. Upstate has different meaning to people from different parts of the state.
My fiance and I have tossed the idea around about having one in Western NY (rochester) after the one we attended in Harrisburg, PA was so much fun.
It was a DIS/DVC/Pin meet and nice get together.

Upstate has different meaning to people from different parts of the state.
Around here (NYC), many people consider Westchester "upstate."

And when you are from the "real" upstate NY, then Westchester is downstate :)!

Ok I need to be more specific. when I say Upstate I mean from the Capital District and North which would be Albany, some of the areas surrounding and north or north west. Greenfield Center is outside of Saratoga Springs.

I can be found wandering around Saratoga Springs & Ballston Spa. To me anything south of Albany is "Downstate".

I grew up in Scotia (near Schenectady) and worked summers at Lake George many years ago.
I certainly consider that area to be upstate! :)

MikeScott, I hear you on the Upstate thing here in Rochester. I always thought upstate was because we were closest to Lake Ontario!
Now that I have been corrected by many Nyer's, I consider myself part of the Western NY crowd. ;)
Would love to meet some fellow DVCer's here in Rochester, though. :)

If you call Interstate 87 "The Northway" you qualify as upstate! Hello to my friends in Saratoga County, Western NY and Downstate (Westchester County and NYC) from your Dis neighbor in Rensselaer County (The good side of the Hudson - East of Albany).

My youngest son attends R.I.T. in Hennretta (sp), I always thought of that area as Northern NY,not Western. Here in Jersey we only got two areas,South Jersey and the other part above us.

We are not far from you at all - Clifton Park - exit 9 on the Northway. We would be interested in a meet if it were held in the Capital District. By the looks of the replies -- there are quite a few DVCer's from this area.

Hamilton County IS upstate NY. Anybody out there father upstate than Speculator????
Hi! I am checking in from Rockland County, which to most of you who have posted, is definately DOWNstate--but to my family, who are from Brooklyn, well, anything North of the Bronx is up-state. Do you have grass--you are "in the country". I would be willing to make the drive up the Thruway, to the Northway for a DVC meeting. We could use our points to stay at the Sagamore!!
My husband is from Boonville,is anyone familiar with it?

Hi everyone!
I can't believe how many DVC owners are located in the Capital District! I live in Wilton, just north of Saratoga. I would love to get together for a meet.

I am from Rotterdam Junction which is at lock 9 of the Mohawk, west of Schenectady and the western part of Rotterdam, across the river from Glenville. I would love to meet. I think about 5 or so years ago KARENNY, I think that's her screen name, had one in Albany. I would love to get together. We will be going back to the world July 2003. Count me in for a get together

I'm in Latham, just outside Albany. The meet we had up here was last summer (or was it the year before?). I didn't organize it but had a great time meeting with other DISers. I always viewed "upstate" in very broad terms- anything above "The City". I drove down to PA a few weeks ago for Barb's meet, so I wouldn't mind traveling for a meet.

Well I call it upstate, but it's also called the Southern Tier - way down here in Binghamton. A DVC meet sounds like a great time and would love to attend one. If only I was organized...;)

There was a "regular" DIS meet in Albany a year ago in June. I remember meeting KarenNY at that one. Old Kicker was also there.

Hello,
We are new BCV owners from Clifton Park, NY. I would have to go along with the saying "if you refer to I-87 as the Northway" you are from upstate.

We're "Delmartians" - in the Town of Behlehem, just south of Albany. I love this upstate-downstate distinction!!! Could it be that if you live in NYC and close enough to routinely refer to it as "the city", that's downstate? I grew up in lower Westchester (definitely downstate, I would argue - but don't know about more northern parts of the county - LOL!!!) and lived for a while in "the city". (I don't remember using upstate/downstate terms when we were kids - when my cousins would visit their family in Ballston Spa, we all would just refer to it as "going to the farm"!!) So now I live near Albany and the first time I talked about going to "the city", no one was quite sure what I meant - so maybe I'm a downstater by birth and an upstater by geographic location...
But, I'm rambling - I'm all for organizing a gathering in the Capital District area.

How about Fulton County,Johnstown to be specific, although we live in Pittsburgh now!!

I think with the upcoming governor's race, a debate should be scheduled for all candidates to discuss the parameters of upstate vs downstate vs across the state (WNY), Soutnern Tier, etc.

Yes I know where Booneville is our friend is from there and says he is from "Hooterville" (a joke) but we need to know who is the organized one to call a meeting?? Where would the meeting point be? Saratoga would work for me. Sorry just being greedy!

Hi. We're new to DVC (April), looking forward to our first trip as members in February. We live off of Exit 10 of the Northway. Would be glad to meet somewhere...although my wife will think I'm nuts!!
Just got the brand new book "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2003" and am looking forward to reading it on an upcoming vacation to Cape Cod.
Anyone else get the mailing offering BCV points at $70 each from Disney for those NYers who purchased before 4/30/02 and who add-on 100 or more points? So tempting...

I've only met one person in our immediate area.
We're in New Hartford NY - outside of Utica (Exit 32 -Thruway) Boonville - is no more than 20-30 miles north of us.

Hello from another 'Delmartian"!! Have we possibly met at a garage sale? We would love to meet everyone. To be in a group where people actually understand tour love of all that is Disney!!!
Yes, we are probably going on the member cruise. It has to be GREAT!

Leroy, isn't Utica exit 31 of the NYS Thruway or have they changed the numbers? I believe exit 32 is Westmoreland.

And, I do know where Boonville and New Hartford are!

while out and about, if you are in the rochester area, look for a black malibu with two oval stickers (one on each side) next to the rear plate.
The one on the left is my DVC oval and the right one is my VWL oval sticker.
I am on I-90 from exit 46 to 45 sometime between 6:30 and 7:30am and from exit 45 to 46 sometime between 5:15(if I am lucky) and 7:00pm Mon - Fri

As a former upstate NYer (Amsterdam) and current NJer, who travels the Thruway back home (Exit 27) I will draw the unofficial upstate / downstate line at Kingston, since that is where the traffic noticeably changes. Wish I could spend more time up in the Adirondacks, near Wells and Speculator where we spent many summers. It really is a beautiful area, that I appreciate so much more when I'm stuck in New Jersey heat and traffic. Don't miss the snow however.
I've really enjoyed this thread! I'll look for your bumper stickers next time I'm traveling I-890.:earsgirl: :Pinkbounc

why don't we start a new thread to see who would be interested in an upstate meeting? It has less of a chance of being missed, and we could get better response rate.
I would make the drive from Rochester (if it fits in my time, what little I have) to Syracuse, or Albany areas, actually most of the state would work for me. I drove 5hrs to Harrisburg for a DIS/DVC/Pin meet.
I will keep an eye out for the new thread!

I can get you in touch with the person from these boards who helped organize the Harrisburg meet I went to. Let me know in a PM here.
She did a GREAT job, so I am sure she can give some good tips.

Diane just sent you a PM. Maybe we can get something together since there are so many of us.
Seeing that so many people are from the Saratoga area, everyone will be right at home in the DVC location at the Marketplace. It is going to be leveled and a brand new complex with a "SAratoga Springs" theme is the considered concept for the sight. I do not think there will be racing in August however!
The meet sounds like a great idea. Are they usually overnighters?
How long?

As a former upstate New Yorker I'd like to say hi! I was born and raised in Ithaca. Then lived in Binghamton for awhile. I can count on 1 hand how many times I went to "the City".
