ORLANDO, Fla. -- Construction crews will begin work next week to repair the Beeline overpass where two people were killed and five others injured in Sunday's tanker truck crash, according to Local 6 News.

The tanker truck collided with a retaining wall on the BeeLine's overpass over Interstate 4 Sunday.

The collision sent chunks of concrete onto motorists and the road below, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash ignited the tanker's 8,500 gallons of gasoline on the ramp and fuel leaked off the ramp on to the road below.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire Sunday afternoon but the extreme heat damaged the 30-foot-high overpass.

Officials do not expect the westbound area to reopen for another 45 to 60 days because of the extensive damage caused by the fire.

The two motorists who died were inside an SUV that lost control after the chunks of concrete caused drivers to suddenly slam their brakes and swerve. The victims have been identified as Gertrude Emmanuel, 38, and Francois Gergorie, 49, both of Orlando.

The tanker driver, Hung Warner, was taken to Sand Lake Hospital with wrist and ankle injuries. He was in stable condition today, Herrell said.

Several other motorists were treated for injuries.

The accident closed I-4 in both directions for hours Sunday. Traffic was rerouted to John Young Parkway until around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Heed this warning. We got stuck in the backup on Sunday at 11:00 am. We came from Port Canaveral to Belz Outlet. It took over 2 hours for this trip due to all traffic being routed onto International Drive.
