Hey all!
I've been looking through the menus for various CS places and I'm wondering about the desserts. You get an entree, a drink and a dessert, but there aren't many dessert choices on most of the menus.
Is it mostly just the chocolate cake, carrot cake, cheesecake and brownies I've been seeing? Where have you all gotten the best dessert with your CS meal? What do the kids get to pick for dessert? Is it the same as the adults? We'll be at Disney in only 9 days and this is our first time with a dining plan so I'm doing a lot of research to get our money's worth!

Thanks a bunch!:cutie:

most of the times i would try to sub out the dessert for bottled water. thats how i got the most value with the plan. we didnt use any snack credit on bottled water and got some great desserts in the park with our leftover credits. if the cm said no on switching to bottled water....you cant go wrong with those little chocolate cakes! thay are pretty darn good!

Most CS desserts are terrible if in the parks. No, kids get something different.

the kids' meals don't usually have "desserts" as such. Disney went with the healthy options type meals a few years ago so a kids meal will typically be something like crustables sandwich, small bag of carrot sticks & small bag of grapes or cup of applesauce. In which case the fruit is considered the "dessert" on the kids meal. You can request a substitute sometimes on the kids meals like getting a cookie instead of applesauce. But in general, no dessert on kids meals.

Okay. Thanks for the info, especially on the kids desserts. I wondered if that was the case. I may have to try the bottled water thing too because I'd rather get the water and use my snack credits for an awesome dessert somewhere else!

Thanks again!

Tricia,

Thank you for the list- it's very helpful and will be printed out for a reference. This would make a great sticky for the board.

I'm with planplan, we try to swap out the small bottle of water for the dessert. My DD has several food allergies, and she couldn't always be accomodated with a dessert. We liked having the water better anyway, so requested it each time. Most places accomodated us with the request, if I recall.

:cheer2:Outstanding!!!!:cheer2:

I'm printing this out as well. Figured we'd buy the kids their meals OOP so Mr. FFerret and I can save the DDP CS's for ourselves. I didn't want them to get burnt out on chicken nuggets though for every single meal.

Truth be told the first PBJ scrunchable I ever had was at Tusker House in 2003 for our first trip. What a WONDERFUL comfort food even for adults! Can you tell I grew up with a mom who didn't cook :)

Out of the standard CS desserts I found the cheesecake to be the best.

Flame tree also has a key lime dessert that DH thought was good enough.

I was also able to switch out a dessert of yogurt on a few occasions.

one thing to remember, if you're eating at a resort counter service, or any place that has a bakery counter, you don't have to settle for the little pre-packaged desserts -- on the adult dining plan at those places you can choose one of the luscious bakery desserts (this includes some of the park counter service places like Starring Rolls at DHS, Main Street Bakery in the Magic Kingdom, and Sunshine Seasons, Kringla Bakeri & Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot) At some resort counter services you also may have the option of getting an ice cream cone, or a sundae for your dessert.:thumbsup2

This is so true. I'm not sure where you're staying, but if you're at one of the values, I'd really try to eat at the food court half the time if possible. The dessert choices are so much better. You can get huge ice cream sundaes at any of the value food courts as your dessert (you can also get any of the baked goods.) We're staying at the Contemporary this time, and honestly, as excited as I am to be staying there, I am pretty bummed about the no sundaes.

I feel like there's almost always plenty of selection. Yes some places only have the chocolate cake or carrot cake (or you can sub a kids' dessert: choc. chip cookies, yogurt, or pudding); but most places have something else as well ... apple dumpling at Columbia Harbour House and Liberty Inn, Rocky Road mousse also at Liberty Inn, marble cheesecake at Studios Catering Co., creme brulee at Wolfgang Puck Express, strawberry parfait and chocolate mousse at Pizzafari, baklava at Tangierine Cafe (actually that's your only option there), plus most resorts will have at least one "specialty" dessert that's typical for them (I believe Pop's is a tie-dye cheesecake on a red velvet cake base). And that doesn't even count the many places that have a bakery you can pick a dessert from.

I can tell you that neither of us has ever had the same QS dessert more than once in a trip ... in fact, I'm pretty sure that I didn't have any of the same QS desserts on this trip as I had on the last one, although I did skip dessert once on this trip (well, I skipped it a few times, but only once when I was using the dining plan).

As for the quality of them ... well, they're not fancy-restaurant-quality desserts in most places, but they're better than the sort of lunchbox type snack cakes one might buy, or than prepackaged cookies, or than you'd get at a fast-food restaurant. They don't taste chemical-y or fake, and they're usually fairly moist and made with decent quality ingredients.

Can the kids get a dessert like a sundae with their meal at the Values? We're staying at Pop and will be eating in the food court quite a bit. I know the kids would prefer a sundae to a CC cookie!

Kids menus at the values are similar to those in the park. They have a choice of grapes, applesauce or cookies. (Based on the menus that I've seen)

It'd be an awesome deal if they could upgrade desserts though! You pay about $10/night for the plan, and they could get up $6-$8 of value in desserts alone. (probably why Disney doesn't allow it)
