There have been a lot of requests for a scavenger hunt for the next Monthly Assignment(s). We could potentially have it go all summer, ie June, July and August.
Please post ideas for what type of assignment we should do and how to go about it. Thanks.
** Still looking for summer items. Have the basics, now looking for summer things a bit more challenging, or funny.** Please post ideas.

A particular letter per week or month?

Someone mentioned the alphabet. I was thinking we could break it up and do it over three months, ie A-H, I-P, and Q-Z. (Or we could break it down further, into weeks, but maybe that's too limiting?)
Other ideas? Considering everything.

I don't believe that this would be a "Disney photo only" scavenger hunt so you can be involved in them all I would hope! :) Disney pics taken for the hunt would just be a bonus for us all to see and enjoy.

If we do alphabet, are we doing photos of objects that look like letters or photos of events or objects beginning with a particular letter? For another alternative to alphabet we could have a short list of items or situations for each month to search for. Something like:
The farm in the city ..something normally found in a rural situation but for some reason its in a city setting.
The city on the farm. opposite of above
s curve
flat
transparent
sad
shiny
tall
fast
old
reflection
Converging Lines
sphere
Birds eye view
Maybe put 5 or 6 things on a list and when you get all the pics post them. If you cant find them all then post what you do get from the list.
I saw threads for scavenger hunts similar to this on another forum and they seemed to have pretty good participation if the list is not too long.

So I've been giving this some thought and doing a little research.
I'm thinking the alphabet might be do-able. We could do two letters per week over the course of three months (with the odd end of the alphabet letters clumped together at the end; or, we could mix it up and do random letters each week until we hit them all eventually).
I was also thinking a summer theme might be fun (since we've waited so long for it to get here!).
In the spirit of the Monthly Assignments, I'd like to try to keep it so that everyone can participate.
With those thoughts in mind, I've begun putting some "summer items" in a list for each letter that we could seek out to find and photograph. I would appreciate it if everyone could help me brainstorm as many of these "letter items" as we can think of. Please add your own. We'll pick from the best choices of all submissions, ones that fit the bill.
I was wondering if we should assign points (in order to keep people motivated), with more difficult items being worth more, etc, along with some rules. I was thinking "items" to find, vs "themes" (as posted above- although I think themes would be really fun for a future thread or assignment, but on second thought, some of these might be theme-ish, also, like hot). Maybe someone could come up with a "trophy" similar to the one for the Uncle Servo Captions thread. (Feel free to jump in with this -who did the trophy for that?)
So these are my thoughts. Would appreciate feedback. Would also appreciate your helping me brainstorm summer items for each letter. For example, Beach for B; Waterslide for W. Thanks. I think it should be pretty fun and hope that there will be good participation. There are lots of ideas for scavenger photo hunts but many of them involve groups going out together for an evening shooting odd things, etc. This is a little challenging being online.

Hot Enough for you? for H
Crisp for c
Ahhh for A
I dunno, but with the little heat wave we are having up here I've heard "Hot Enough For You" at least 20 times...

You could leave it at the alphabet and let people be creative but explain their letters. That makes it as wide open as possible!

I hesitate to make it too open ended because then there's no real incentive to get out shooting. I'm hoping this will be fun and challenging for us all summer long and that participation will be high. I just hope I can rise to the challenge of putting it together.

I have been working on my list for the past several days.
People around me here and there were curious to what I was doing (sitting at games and practices and such - and tonight a party - with a dictionary, a flurry of papers, pencils flying everywhere, a legal pad, etc :lmao: ). Many actually chimed in with ideas and then further thought they'd like to join in. :rotfl:
I think it's going to be a BLAST! :woohoo: Hopefully I'll be done and posting it by tomorrow.
I'm totally going by the seat of my pants here, but I think it'll work out anyway, lol.
Any last minute ideas please chime in by tonight.

Ruthie,
I believe that one of the MAIN reasons for these assignments is for novice photographers to join. This is a great way to get people out and use their cameras and learn about those things like shutter speed, aperture, etc. So, yes, please join in! :)

Well thank you Andy I have plenty to learn, I don't have a fancy camera and have never even changed any of the settings just leave it on auto but I have (timidly) been posting and most importantly I love to take pictures so count me in too!

The one thing I learned from doing a scavenger hunt in real life is that the rules need to be pretty clear because the "interpretation factor" can cause havoc at the end. (Thinking of my DH and his team who cheated big time. :lmao: )
I think I have the rules pretty well set in my mind. Will write them up when I post the thread, which should be in a little while. Thoughts on rules, please speak now or forever hold your peace. :hippie:
Putting my list to "paper" while I drink my coffee. Am up to G.
I decided to go with a lot of items since that gives lots of options for everyone, seeing we all have varying schedules and territiories, etc. People can do as many or as few as they wish. It will be a competition so hopefully the motivation factor will be relatively high.
I saw some fireflies last night and I was tempted to get a jump start on things  but I didn't. Pictures have to be NEW starting today or tomorrow - after the thread is posted.
Linda - I'm determined to give your scavenger hunt a try! I've been in the photography "blahs" lately and haven't been posting much, mainly because I haven't been taking many pictures. :guilty: Maybe this is what I need to get me going again. It's summer, my flowers are blooming, vacation time is getting closer (we're heading out to Mt. Rushmore later this summer - I can't wait!!!).
Shout out to Andy:wave2: - I haven't been posting, but I've been lurking, and I haven't seen you around these parts much either. Good to see you again!!
