.....I'm back, but not recovered yet!!! Whoo, what an adventure! We had a BLAST, the girls were amazing and man am I tired!! For those of you who have never been, Savannah is a beautiful city rich with history and "old Southern charm". The girls did very well in a city full of "don't touch" and we seemed to find the right mix between "culture" and "FUN"!The train ride was a nightmare!!! I will NEVER ride Amtrak again and have already started a nice juicy letter of complaint! Think we deserve a refund for being seated in the lounge car due to overbooking?? Ever tried to SLEEP in a fully lit lounge car complete with grumpy conductor and his VERY noisy walkee-talkee? With 3 little girls?!? You would not believe.....!
I have had two "all nighters" in the last 4 days...I am too old for this!!;) It helps a little to see that dd is also tired...maybe I'm NOT that old? Hee hee! Years of planning and now it's all over...time to plan the next trip!!! On the train home the girls were re-living all of our adventures and they decided that...are you ready...they want their next trip to be to DISNEY WORLD!!! WOO HOO....I have a trip to plan!!! YIKES!! Anybody want to chaperone?;)

Welcome back, Dream! I've missed you, and wondered where you were!

You know you can find some takers here to help plan your next trip to WDW! :) Hey, didn't you say that you guys were going over Christmas? I seem to remember that, maybe I dreamed that?

In any case, welcome back. Glad your trip went well, minus the Amtrak part.

I was wondering how you made out!;) Glad to hear you had a good time, my DH and I go every year in June! We usually have a good time. Did you go on the ghost tour? How was it? What hotel did you stay at? Sorry to hear about Amtrak, I used to ride them to Kissimmee for my WDW trips. Might take them in Nov. if they are still operational!

Welcome back Jodie! We missed you. :)

So a Disney trip huh, and you need chaperones? Hmmm... I'm sure something could be worked out. ;)

Have fun catching up on everything you missed while you were gone! After I get back from a trip it seems so overwhelming, but fun at the same time with pages and pages of un-read CB! :teeth:

So glad to hear the trip went well. Did your troop do any of the activities at the Juliette Low house? I took my GS troop on a WDW trip one year. On that same trip, we did Savannah and the Kennedy Space Center. At WDW, we participated in the GS programs they offer. It was a wonderful trip, but we had to fund raise for about 4 years!

Glad you and the girls had fun, bummer about the train.

I would LOVE to help chaperone the trip to WDW ;) :p

Thanks Everybody!
Snoopy...no, you weren't dreaming! I am going to Disney for Christmas...family trip this time! Why? Are you going then too? We arrive Christmas evening and leave Jan. 1st

CarolA Thanks for all of your WONDERFUL advice about Savannah! You were the first one I thought of when the girls begged for Disney World...I laughed when I read your post here!! Darn! No "CarolA tips" for this trip!!

Poohbear123 NO!!! DON"T TAKE AMTRAK!!! If you do decide to do it, get a sleeper car...avoid coach like the plague! Take your own food and water as they seem to run out of both quite frequently and be prepared for hostile, burnt out employees!

Tigger Yes, we spent a whole day at the Juliette Low house and it was the highlight of the girls trip. We had researched Juliette for Thinking Day in Feb. so much of what they saw was familiar and they found that really cool! They did the "rainy day " session in the afternoon where they did activities that young ladies would have done on rainy days when Juliette was a girl. They embroidered, painted, cut out sillhouettes and made paper dolls and clothes...all the while dressed in "period clothing" that they chose themselves. I was afraid these "millenium girls" would have found these things to be a tad too tame but they really enjoyed it!

jldriscoll Yes, you are right!! We must adhere to "safety wise"!!! LOL! I will add you to the ever growing list of chaperone volunteers!!

Debster Thanks for being the "keeper of the blender"!! You can borrow it anytime!!;)

Actually, while I have not yet taken a group to Disney I do have hints. One of my GS jobs was approving all troop travel out of the area. The troops also had to submit evaluations. As a result, I have really bad news for all the wannabe chaparones. Disney has a great program for kids. However, they are fairly strict on the numbers of adults they will accomdate in these programs. (We had one troop leader who was afraid to tell one of her parents that they would not get to participate in the neat program. The parent shows up and Disney just would not take her along. The Disney person told the troop leader that either the leader or this extra adult could go, but not both!) I actually don't remember all the details on how many and who could do these programs, but I probably have it here somewhere!!!

It's funny. When I logged onto the dis tonight, I was listening to Gladys sing Midnight Train to Georgia. I was wondering if that meant you were back.:)

Ya know Beccy...you really shouldn't talk about Shirley like that when she's not here to defend herself. :teeth:

HI JODIE!!!! I would've said Hi earlier, but I've been too busy pouting over the fact that my satellite modem died and I'm on dial up with a very slow laptop. :( I'm glad to hear you had such a great time, but I'm even more glad that you're back with us where you belong. ;) Sorry to hear the train ride was major stinky poo poo though. :( So which was better...the week with the inlaws, or the train ride?!? ;)

Carol HAHAHA...."I know I have it here somewhere"!! Spoken like a true scout leader!!! We NEVER throw anythingaway do we? Disney regulations sound kinda like GIRL SCOUT REGULATIONS!! I should do fine!

Jason Hey right back at ya!

Shannon You have not heard the "midnight train to Georgia" sung until you have heard it sung by my troop!!! LOL!!

Kim Which was better? OMG...the train without a doubt!!!;) Sorry about your satel. modem...wondered why you had been so QUIET!;) So when do we get you back in full force?

kejoda I was here for Laverne and Shirley but I missed squiggy and Lenny!! LOL! Perfect...just perfect!!:)

OH! DAn, I forgot you!! Sorry!
Pictures? Um...I took more pictures on this 4 day trip than I took on the last 2 Disney trips combined!!! I believe I irritated some of my girls but I just told them they would appreciate it someday!! Unfortunately, it probably breaks about a million Girl Scout regulations to post pictures of the girls online so I won't be able to share them with ya'll. :( I got them back yesterday and there are some awesome photos. Before we left I warned the girls (and Moms) about the "smell" of Savannah (lots of paper mills and such on the river) and about the sand gnats. I told them I didn't want to hear any rude comments when they got off the train! One of my favorite pics is of my rather "playful" assistant leader when she got off the train. She had nose plugs in her nose, a can of bug spray in her hand and was wearing the hat that I had made for all of the Moms which said "I took the Midnight train to Georgia"!!! What a hoot!! Another favorite (CarolA will appreciate this) is of the whole troop on the piazza (sp?) in the gardens at the Juliette Low house. Still another fave is of all of us on the Dolphin Magic cruise soaking dripping wet!! It was a very windy day and the ocean was a tad on the rough side! So many wonderful memories....

Hey! Not nice! Don't be putting negative vibes out there about my modem! If it doesn't come today I'm going to have to start hurting someone or something. I'm on my third day with a killer headache, I need some serious uhhh..medicinal assistance (Excederin is NOT cuttin' it) and I can't take this laptop ANYMORE!!

Jodie, Starband said they mailed the modem out on Thursday...two day ground. If they mailed it out on Thurs... I guess I have to give them Fri and Mon as their "two days" which means it HAD BETTER BE HERE TODAY....which means the CB's days of peace & quiet are nearly OVER! Mwahahahaha!! The train wins over the inlaws huh? I know.... let's put the inlaws ON the train next time they suggest a week at the beach. ;)
