View Full Version : Did anyone notice in their new Disney catalog...
...the Swarovski Crystal Lumiere pin on page 101? It has an asterik next to it and at the bottom of the page says "WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm."
What is up with that? Is it really worth your risking your health to wear a pin of Lumiere? I was just kind of surprised at Disney to carry such a product if it carries such a risk (I'm sure it's probably a very small risk, but still...):(

Uhhhh.....I wouldn't overreact. Swarovski crystal is leaded crystal as I remember. That could be all that is going on.

yeah, california probably has some kind of law saying anything with lead in it (even negligible amounts) must be labeled.
I didn't realize that about leaded crystal. I have to admit, I was just kind of shocked to read something like that in my Disney Catalog!!

Im not sure if its in this catalog but in the last catalog it had that warning for the Mickey waffle iron and another kitchen appliance(maybe the sandwich maker)
I just ordered the Haunted Mansion Spooky house Halloween decoration and I got the very same warning. I have to say I was a little surprised. But I couldn't imagine what could possibly be in this item to cause that kind of warning? It says resin in the catalog.

Barb, does it have an electric cord? Maybe, something to do with the cord or maybe the glaze on the piece has lead in it. Very odd!
I have to say that I no longer want the Mickey waffle iron that I have wanted for months now! Im going to enjoy waffles with that warning on the box?Not likely!

Depending on what the warning is for (like it causes cancer) I wouldn't let it upset me. Unfortunately in this day of lawsuits over everything...manufacturers and retailers have to be extra cautious. That's why McD's has "WARNING, contents are hot" labels on their coffee cups! The manufacturers put on warning labels so IF something happens they can go back and say "There was a warning label on the box"
What is the warning for the waffle iron? I'm going to have to go back and look at my catalog...I've always wanted one of those!
Now every time I look at the Disney catalog I'm going to be looking for warnings!! (not that I ever buy anything, but I have such a wish list!!)

I read this also and so I sent an email to Customer Service at the Disney Store Online to ask them for an explanation. Basically they told me that the item was soldered with a compound that included trace amounts of lead. They said that in California it is now illegal to sell any item with ANY amount of lead in it so that is why they have the warning. I asked this to them in regard to a lamp that they are selling so it is probably the solder that they use to connect the electrical cord to the lamp....
In this day of litigation extraordinaire I suppose Disney can't be too careful. If it is just a trace amount of lead in an electrical connection, I wouldn't be too concerned about it, personally. I don't plan on licking the electrical cord, and if I did, I would probably have more serious problems than the lead.

As a Californian I can tell you you see signs/notices like this all the time. Our apartments even have this type warning on our laundry room door  .
