Hi, YES we are heading back to Disney and staying at Pop Century.

Can't wait!

Let's share our obsession! You all can help me with the wait, and my planning, and maybe I can help you, (this is our 6th family vacation since 2003)

I have 4 kids, we booked two rooms, got in on free dining, and we are driving down, from Michigan.

Our dates are Aug 22-28.

Anyone else going to be there at the same time?

We like to decorate our room windows and stay on the 4th floor looking at hourglass lake.

I just read that they are finally going to do something with the other half across the lake. Make 1200 or so family suites and theme it the animation of disney. Should be cool! Set to be complete in 2012. If the suites were affordable, we would stay in one, but its cheaper to just get 2 standards.

Looking forward to meeting you.

:welcome: Leucky! Hi, me too. We went quick service, but my daughter has to see Anastasia, so I did get to book one sit down at 1900 for dinner. It's her birthday week.

Our ressie is for 8/22. Really wanted her actual b-day on the 27, but there's nothing available that day. Oh, well. We still get to go, so I'm happy.

Yea, more people to plan and countdown with!

Hey Dawn, we are leaving the same day! Many I hope June goes by as fast as May.
Mony Mony, Thanks for the Welcome.

I have been trying to get the Fantasmic dinner pkg for 2 weeks. I thought I booked online, but it turns out you can only book the package over the phone. The CM's actually told me to call three times a day.

Did any of you ever book this?

We have driven before when the 5 year old was 10 months. It's been awhile. Still trying to figure out all the details there. Hoping to leave very early saturday morning (3am ish) for a sunday check in. No major stops, just driving.

I'm watching it to see if someone cancels 1900 Park Fare of Aug 27 family of 6, long shot, I know, but luck does happen for some. We're doing a split stay this year - 8/28-8/31 at POR with free dining and then 8/31-9/4 at the Polynesian with the 40% off pin :cool1:

So excited as we've never done a monorail resort before!

We're driving as well, from Pittsburgh. We've driven twice before and I actually love it. We can pack so much more and it's just really convenient to have a car onsite. The trip is about 15 hours, so it's really not that bad - gives us a chance to play some "road trip" games with the kids :thumbsup2

I've never stayed at the poly but love walking around there. We've done the Lilo and Stitch breakfast, Kona Cafe, and Spirit of Aloha there. Love the tonga toast for breakfast! The boys always ask if they can sit up front with the driver on the monorail.

First time staying at the Grand, got the 40% off code and decided to RPC TPV, and I am surprising my parents and oldest with an upgrade to Sugarloaf Club. :goodvibes

Look for my lime green mickey head, always have it on my fanny pack and one on my DH's backpack...and DON'T BE SHY, say hello! My kids always point out LGMH's if they see them....they think it's cool to meet people from the DIS!!! :thumbsup2

My Mickey head is tye dyed to match our love for Pop. I put them on our see through back packs we carry in the parks, plus I'm sure there will be one on our stroller. I need to find a cheap stroller for the 3 year old and I know my 6 year old will just get so cranky at the end of our day that she will need something to get her through the day. I can't wait until I don't need a stroller. At least we are done with diapers!!!!!!

I also was going through some stuff and found my cards I made for the last trip with my useer name and I also gave CM's cards when I felt they did something really nice to enhance our trip.

There's some wear and tear on the mickey heads and dates need to be updated, so now I found something else to do to occupy my time......

Looking forward to meeting you.

I found over the years less is more with my kids. I've tried having all kinds of games and toys for them to play and it just adds to the junk in the car. They watch moives, read, listen to music, write or draw and of course eat! They some how manage to keep themselves busy. This trip we will be driving for about 13 hours before we stop in GA for the night. That's the longest we have driving so we will see how it goes! :)

My boys are 13 and 12 and they can keep themselves busy, its my 5 and 3 year old girls that I will need to get things for. We do have the DVD player and satellite TV, but I was hoping that they would get chances to turn that off and take in some of the scenery.

My DH and I are sitting here trying to figure out the best day to leave and how far we can get driving before we need to stop.

Plus he discovered that he can use his Delta Miles for free hotels stays along the way! This was a no brainer for me to take off the Friday before so we have an extra day to travel.

I am not a good passenger. I get car sick even when I drive, sometimes, so I have to be the driver all the time.

This is great!

I picked up at the library Along Interstate 75, what a neat book this couple put together! I highly recommed it if you are drivng I-75.

My DH works in transportaion and he has a program that sets up so many cool features for driving.

This gets me excited for the trip that seems so far away.

I'm thinking a big green mickey head will be painted on our back car window.:thumbsup2

Been there! Been there! Been there! There is an art I've been working on and it starts with me talking about our past vacations and putting in the planning DVD's and saying I wish we could go back, wish the money situation was better, and it plants the seed. Then the next thing I know, my DH is just playing on his laptop with different vacation packages. It takes on a life of its own after that and I get to put a countdown ticker in my siggy.:rolleyes1

Here's a story:

We went in 2008 in august for a 4 day mini trip. We had a 10 day booked in December. We went to 1900 park fare for dinner. My daughter, then 4, feel in love with Anastasia. She drew many pictures for her while she waited to go back to see her new BFF. In december we had ressies again for 1900 Park Fare for dinner. I told our waitress that my daughter made all of these pictures for Anastasia and how much she adored her. When they introduced the characters, Anastasia came out in her loudest voice, "Mother! Mother! Look who's here!!! It's my Best Friend in the whole world! Mother, Malorie is here!!" and they all came to our table and made the biggest fuss.

The waitress was so nice to tell me to have my recorder going, something really cool was about to happen.

So my point is, tell your waiters and waitresses a thing or two and you never know what might happen. Congratualtions to your daughter. That's a nice accomplishment.

We will be there from Aug 15 - 26th...we're coming from Saskatchewan Canada and staying at CSR!

I love that resort. We stayed there the first time we took the boys. Pool is awesome.

Cool, maybe we will run into each other!

Wouldn't that be a riot?!

Wondering if you put in any requests for a particular building?

I am hoping for a room in the 50s building because I loved our room there during our last trip.

Is that the juke box building? We liked that building for the view of the lake and the fireworks. I want a corner so bad. I wonder if you can get a corner room that is connected to another?

2 of my classes just ended today, so that gives me more time to plan our trip. I still have one left that ends Aug 3rd.

Spring classes went by so quick.

DH brought up our stops along the way on our drive down. He said why don't we wait until the drive home to do things since we won't be in a hurry to get anywhere. I thought that after a long drive climbing Look Out Mt. would be nice since we were sitting for so long. Any thoughts?

DD16 and I will be at POP August 17-26! We are so excited! It's the first time we've had the DDP; now we will get to try all those restaurants we have been admiring for so long! I requested "fireworks view" for our room, but not sure which building(s) that might be. We are flying down from Bangor, ME. I'm going to try and think of a unique window display so everyone will know it's us!

I just realized that my final payment is due in one week, which means that in 53 days WE WILL BE IN DISNEY WORLD :cool1::banana::woohoo:

What are you going to school for? I know how great it feels to be at the end of a semester! I just graduated nursing school this May. :yay:

Stoping somewhere on the way home might be better. It would give you something to look forward to after you leave Disney. :sad1:

Good point, thanks! Chattanooga TN! I got Along Interstat 75 from the library and I just may go and purchase one for myself. It's a guide of everything you can do from Detroit to the Florida border along I-75. Dave Hunter is the Author and they are on their 15th edition! It is very useful in so many ways.

Free Dining does Rock!:cool1:

We always celebrate my 3 DD's birthdays in Disney because their birthday are always close to our trip dates, but this trip it is my oldest DD's Birthday and I am so exited! I am decorating the room, trying to order a special cake and she collects Disney Precious Moments and I bought one in February an Ariel with a birthday cake...I know she will weep when she see's it, she is just like her mom:rolleyes1

I almost burst out with the giggles the other day, because she finally told me what she wants for her birthday...a Mickey Watch like mine:love: What she does not know is she will be in Epcot (her favorite park) picking out her own watch!

I just can not wait!:yay::yay::yay: anyone have any other ways I can surprise her on her very special birthday?

I am officially in the 40's today, the summer is flying:dance3::dance3::dance3:

eeyorepixie: I have brought down my own balloons and asked the front desk if they would blow them up for me, they did and added some of their own. My son woke up to a huge bouquet of balloons in the room and on that day when we returned from the parks, there was a signed photo of mickey mouse wishing him a happy birthday.

Thank you, Monica! This is an impromptu trip for my DH & I who will be celebrating a "significant" anniversary on 8/7 (at California Grille) so it all depends on the weather and the crowds. I will be meeting up with my twin sister on Fri., 8/6 (overlapping trip) and we will be spending the day together and haven't decided on what park, maybe just early a.m. at DHS and then relaxing by the pool. My DH & I will be back again in late Oct. for F&WF and hoping the weather will be somewhat cooler so visiting the parks will be much more enjoyable.

Just finalized the Dolphin, we are doing a split stay. We wanted to stay in the Epcot area, can ya tell? It's August and in Florida, we are minimizing any park trips and focusing on POOL and rest and relaxation. We will be going to Epcot 1 day and I'm sure we will be coming back to the resort to jump in the pool about mid-day.

8/6-8/8 - Walt Disney World Dolphin
8/8-8/10 - Disney's Beach Club Resort

On Sunday morning, I plan on taking a cup of coffee and a stroll over to the Beach Club and check-in (let the rest of the family sleep in). By the time they get their act together and we move our stuff, we'll be ready at 10am for Stormalong Bay. :dance3:

Yes, we heard about that too. Totally bummed, I'm thinking they might be adding some stuff from the new movie that is out. I am bummed about IASW but my kids aren't, the older ones that is.

I was just reading to avoid parks with late night EMH and visit them the next day. I've been to WDW in 2008 with intense heat and crowds and seriously thinking of giving this a try this time.

Hope you don't mind me joining in! I just found this thread--I have 41 days until my trip!!!:cool1:

So far it is a surprise trip my my nephew, age 11. This will be the 3d summer for the 2 of us doing a Disney trip. I booked a bounceback trip with free dining when I was there in October. We are staying POFQ 8/15-8/24. My sister and BIL will join us on 8/20. Several other family members will be arriving 8/19 for a 50th anniversary trip.

I get to stay solo 3 nights after my nephew heads off with my sister, and will do the Premium Plan one of those nights. I end my trip with 2 nights/3 days at Universal.

I too am disappointed about TSM. I figure that is a good reason to book a bounceback for August 2011!!:thumbsup2

vincev33, my family of 6 loves the cabins at Fort Wilderness. If you are checking bags try and pack a few long wooden dowls (home depot 10 cents), marshmellows, box of graham crackers (put the chocolate in your carry on), and bug spray. You willl need them to make smores at the campfire and movies. With 3 boys it will be way cheaper to bring your own. Don't forget about the petting zoo and a walk through the stables by the petting zoo. Have fun! We always have.

I buy all my kids clothing for the next summer now, but we wear them at Disney for the first time:rotfl: Yes, they may complain that the clothes are a tad too big for the, but that is what adjustable waists are for...geesh I wish they did adjustable waists for us adults too:rolleyes1

A spending spree does help take the edge off does it not? They do not call it "retail therapy" for nothing. Nothing better to me than perusing Marshalls;), except maybe Disney planning:goodvibes

WE ARE GETTING SO CLOSE PEOPOLE!!!!:yay::dance3::yay::dance3::yay:

I love/hate that the summer flys by, but wheather I was going to Disney or not the summer would fly by, and it is just such a wonderful ending to our summer and the begining of the school craziness:teacher::eek::eek::eek:

My lil' shopping spree wound up a big one, for me!

Heck, I don't purchase anything for myself, always for my kids. So once in a blue moon I splurge! Mama needed some new vacation clothes, badly!

I'll be watching the sales for my kids though.:rolleyes1

43 days is not far away! Its almost to new numbers, 30's which is close to the 20's, and then the teens, and bam its single digits!!!!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I want to decorate my windows, so I need to start making some mickey heads, I wonder if home depot still has the color samples? I like larger ones anyways.

OH! I did find some foam sheets, I can use those!!! And glitterize them. Now I have a cool craft to do later with the girls. I love this thread, it makes me brainstorm, and go shopping.

I just found this thread! Yahoo!
Our family has 41 days to go. :jumping1:
We are staying at Pop Century August 21st through August 28th for the free dining and some fun in the sun :cool2: :beach:.
I have requested blg # 9 on the first floor.( Hope we get it.)
The suitcases are starting to get packed and the count down has begun. WE are all excited to go to Disney again.
We are flying out of Rochester, New York on Airtran.
I now hope the "Bounceback Fairy" :worship: pixiedust: will grace us with a offer in our room , so I can begin to save and plan for 2011 as soon as we return home.
I have thought about decorating our window , :artist: but have never tried before. (you can't use tape , right?)
My 10 year old nephew and his family will be going August 17-26 and staying at All Star Sports. So we will be hopefully seeing them there too.
While we are at Pop I will have to look for those tie dye Mickey heads that the OP is using, since her family will be at Pop around the same time!
In the meantime, we will listen to alot of Disney Park Music on Live365 on MouseWorld Radio, go over my check lists to see that we have everything packed, and read lots of postings :surfweb: by fellow Disney/August/Free Dining resort travelers on this board.
May all our Disney vacations be simply Magical!

With a little over 30 days to go I am soooooooooooo ready. The first half of the year has not been kind; heck the past couple of years have not been kind.
I was hired for a "dream job"; shut down my child care business only to be informed a few days ago the "qualifications" for the job have changed. Result: NO job. Nephew's new father-in-law (he and his wife were married at WDW 12/31/09) was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer; niece decided to divorce her husband after 20+ years of marriage; good friends mother passed away; son of another close friend (suffers from PTSD) was sent to prison; DH had cancerous polyps removed (note to fellow over 50 Disboarders...get that colonoscopy done! We lost a good friend to colon cancer a few years ago.); youngest DD lost her husband over a year ago ... was in floral dept. of our local grocery story yesterday, looked at the roses and found tears streaming-will DD ever have some of those beautiful flowers sent to her again?:sad2:
The year hasn't been all bad. The rest of the family has steady employment; DGD'd are thriving (and so excited about the upcoming trip); we're healthy (we think!); sister retired from teaching and will be joining us with her daughter for part of the trip; BUT, we are ALL so ready to be at our favorite "Happy Place". Time is short :yay: and we're ready! :dance3: Will begin packing shortly :cool1:. :tink:

Just 16 days to go. I'm the designated 'travel agent' for my group since I've got more visits under my belt than any of them. I've been able to occupy myself with making all of our arrangements so that helps.

All of our plans are made, ADR's done, list for Garden grocer is finished and will be placing that order probably today. Nothing left to do but pack and wait...and wait...and wait..... The next 2 weeks will go interminably s.l.o.w.l.y and then our trip will be over in the blink of an eye. I always promise myself that I'll be concious of time when I'm at the World, but somehow it ends up like we're in a time warp on fast forward and before I know it, we're home wondering how it flew by so quickly.

Just a bit off topic, but we (party of 4) have an illuminations cruise booked for 8/10 and have room for up to six if anyone would like share the cruise with us.

monymony3471

Why do we do that to ourselves??? :confused3 I find myself while on vacation counting how many days left and trying to convince myself that the time is NOT flying by.

I am happy we are driving there and back, makes the trip longer, in a sense.

See!!! I'm doing it again!:rotfl:

Then I even have days off when we return. I always say I need time off after a disney vacation to catch up.

I'm thinking from what I read on your PTR, that at least it's to get your classroom set up, right?

This will be the first vacation that I have almost a week off still. I didn't take any time off this year due to my school schedule. I am back in school to finish. (special education/CI) I have had a licensed day care in my home for almost 13 years. I think that I should get my degree on that alone!:rotfl:

That's awesome! I have my degree in Psychology (grad school in School Psych), and certifications in Special Ed, High School Math, and High School English.

Yes, we have one week of "Pre-planning" which means time to attend meetings and set the room up/ write lesson plans, etc... Since I just got my assignment via mail (same as last year... math AND English again, uhg.), pre-planning week will be...well... less than magical.

OP we have almost the same dates. Our dates are Aug 21-29. And we are staying at POP too. I'm going to ask for a 4th floor room looking at the lake. Maybe we will be neighbors :cheer2:

With all the refurb going on, I'm thinking of asking for a newly decorated room in the 60's but I don't know if they will be done with the 60's buildings by then. I think we will decorate our room too. I will be on the lookout for you in my travels.

Oh, and I just got my Mickey Mail yesterday with luggage tags. We are down to 34 days and counting!

There are so many of us going around your dates, we are at Pop though. I'm sure you will hear some reponses soon. Just booked today? WTG!:cool1:

OH!!! I cut out all these mickey heads out of foam sheets I found. I want to find a way to "neatly" put our names on them with glitter or something like that. Just the glue I have beads up. I want to hang those in our room windows. I will probably bring down a strand of lights to hang in the room as well.

Still looking for my tye dye template......

I put together a quick packing list last night, what am I missing????

The stuff I am using to decorate my resorts windows with, (a strand of lights and the foam Mickey mouse heads I cut out and glitter glued our names on, Mickey and Minnie stuffed dolls to display in our windows, and dry erase magnetic board and dry erase markers for passersby to write notes on, my pre-made mouse keeping envelopes, my pre-made cards that I hand out to cast members who I feel went out of their way making our vacation extra magical, I might make some personalized window clings again.
Pull-ups, 3pk of ponchos from the dollar store (expect sudden showers throughout your days), double the sun screen, band aids, clear see-through back pack, kool-aid sticks for bottled water, I usually place an order with gardengrocer.com when we fly-to deliver diapers, wipes, cases of water, snacks, and juice to the room but we are driving this time, stroller, sunglasses, hats, pass porter book, pass porter ticket and room key holders, camera, battery charger, extra memory sticks, cell phone and charger, uploaded a free application on my phone called Ride Hopper Lite for wait times and park and parade times (looks really cool) shampoo, conditioner, shavers, extra socks, laundry soap, quarters, ID, insurance/medical cards, money, important papers, pony tail holders, ibuprophren, prescription meds, the itinerary, deodorant, comb/brush, clothes you plan on wearing, extra shoes, bathing suits, go on-line and put a hold on your mail delivery service, autograph books and LARGE Sharpies, lanyards and trading pins, princess costumes for 1900 dinner, daughter’s birthday presents (she is turning 6 while we are there), Benadryl, children’s Tylenol and Motrin, vitamins, insect repellant, bathroom spray (Lysol), the over the door pocket hanger to hold all the necessities, laundry bag for dirty clothes.

That's us almost exactly. 3 days at ASSp with FD and 2 day park tickets which we're upgrading to WPF&M. Then 2 days at YC where we'll need to purchase food. Really only 4 full days, 2 at the parks and 2 at the water parks. May add in some SeaRaycer time or mini-golf.

Altho I said last year that then would probably be our last trip for a while, I HAD to use our GAD tickets and the 40% off code to hit WDW one more time. I do think this year will really be the last for a long time. The oldest 2 will be working next summer, they'll need a car, college is looming ever closer....

Everyone ENJOY your stay!

BTW jdd - we LOVE POR! If you have the time, it's fun and relaxing to rent the kayaks. Also, spend an evening with YeeHaw Bob in the lounge - he's great, and even got my teenagers up and dancing!

I'm approaching the same situation. 2 are already working this summer and oldest DS goes off to college 2011 so their schedules will be off.

I can't even think about all of us not returning together...it's too sad:sad:

Well :welcome: to the countdown!

My biggest mistake was taking my daughter around the corner to see the castle at age 2, and when she saw it, her eyes were lit, her mouth opened wide, and she looked at me with her big blue eyes and said, "I better get my dress on!" (referring to the dress we had back at the room for her dinner with Cinderella at 1900 park fare)

Did I have a video-recorder or camera ready? Nope!!!!! Just be prepared for all kodak moments.

First trips are the best! and have lots of tissue at the ready.....;)

For those of you with little ones, I'll pass along a tip that was popular on the DIS boards years ago. May still be on the families board, but I don't visit that one often....

Divide your kiddos clothes up by day and put the days outfit (shirt, shorts, socks, undies, hair bows, etc.) in a 2 gallon ziplock bag. Makes packing easy, makes getting ready easy - everything is in one place. You pull out the bag, toss it to dad or kid and there is no hunting for missing sock or whatever. With multiple kids, you would not believe how easy it makes the mornings!

Have fun!

We don't leave for a while yet, but my daughter wanted to pack her suitcase and I did this. I can tell you right now, it's going to save a lot of time. My daughter hasn't quite grasped the "matching" idea and taking the time now has saved me a lot of time in the World!!!!

I don't know if I'm allowed to link this but here is the website:

It's the same app MonyMony has "Ride Hopper Lite" I found it in the "market." It is really cool. It stores your recently viewed parks, and each park shows wait times (entered by users who are actually at the park, and it even shows WHEN they submitted it). You can arrange by alphabetical order or by low to high wait times.

To celebrate, I am going shopping!!! :lmao:

It way to hot and the malls airconditioning are much cooler than mine. DD5 needs some extra summer clothes for the trip, she's growing like a weed, and I'm on a bargain hunt!

Too funny! Disney Store has a friends and family sale this weekend with 20% off. I guess they were advertising their fall merchandise will be out but I'm not sure?

Found two very cute blue Tinkerbell tank dresses for my girls at the Disney Store. They were each 7.99 and they are just too stinking cute! Didn't see anything about an upcoming sale.

Got lots of cute outfits for them at Old Navy, plus their annual shirts were 2.50 each.

Payless summer sandals are decently priced. Some 3.00 and some are 5.00.

Feel, much much better now.
