Neighbors

My neighbors rang our bell at 9:30 last night and brought us a 12 bottle case of red wine. We barely know these people, we have only lived in our house for three months and only see them in passing to say hello. Why would they give us a case of wine? In DH's broken Italian and their broken English, he asked why and they said because we are so nice. This puzzles me because like I said they don't know us. (Not that we aren't nice :)) And last month they went on vacation and they sent us a postcard too. It would be nice to think they were just being neighborly, but DH and I are thinking something is just strange. What do you all think?

I think you've got some pretty nice neighbors who, for whatever reason (including You being Nice), think that you are, too! Maybe the previous owners were really nasty! :( I'll host a party when one of my next door neighbors move! It won't happen in my lifetime though, she's an original owner!

Maybe it's customary? I know you've been there a little while now but, maybe not long enough to learn these 'customs'? :confused: Just an after-thought.

I think some DISers might want to share that case with you. :p I'll pass though, thank you. ;)

Maybe people in Italy are NICER than those in your old neighborhood and they are being truly FRIENDLY.

Just because someone does a good gesture doesn't mean they are up to something or they have a sinister hidden agenda:eek:

They were being friendly, be friendly back. It would do the whole world good to do the same:cool: :cool: :cool:

thats normal in Italy for neighbors to do that. Its only America where people are so cold to one another

Very nice.. I have to say I lived in a town in Ohio where there were a lot of people from Poland/Israel/Ukraine.

When we moved in, there was a bottle of red wine, and a nice loaf of bread... to "welcome" the new neighbors and to "bless" the home.

We were told that was the way the "Orthodox" do things...

We weren't "Orthodox", but we found it a very nice guesture.
