Great Scot! And I am not talking about toitey paper either!
Today I found myself speaking with two otherwise nice, interesting women. Then the one lady mentioned Disneyland... I am thinking, yes.... :rotfl::)
Then I mentioned my Tink earrings.... then they both mentioned that it was years ago, when they last visited Disneyland.... again, yes... thinking I can help to update them..... whoa! Kemosabie..... total wet blanket time instead! :scared1: For when I said that it was time to return, they both gave a most resounding no, followed by a no way, while they are giving an ugly facial, to one degree or another while shaking their head in the negative... omg! The inhumanity of it all! :scared: Anyway.... they did not state why, for at that point they were done with their lunch, when they then got up, and took off. WOW! Do I know how to clear a room or what? :rotfl2:I ask ya! I did not even get a chance to find out what their beef is, much less be able to attempt to change their minds! IF I talk to them again, I will try to find out the reason (s) for their irrational behavior! Most shocking really! :headache:  :confused3
:scared: Has this sort of thing ever happened to you? :sad2:

Not to the extreme that I actually cleared a room, but I know many people who cannot understand my Disney obsession and don't like Disneyland. I'm even married to one. Some people look at me like I'm nuts when I say I'm going for my fourth visit this year. They "can't stand it".

Someone needs a good dose of Pixie Dust!! Oh well 2 less people in the crowd. Good grief!!! Whenever I need some magic I put on my tink earrings! I have 2 styles and love them. :tinker:

Yes! Power to the pixie dust, and Tinker bell earrings! I prefer less crowd too while visiting the land! And if you are visiting once a month or more often from that, Disneyland, that makes and assists with keeping you sane. :)

I can't say that I've had the same experience; the worst I've ever got was "you're going to Disneyland AGAIN?!?" followed by amused laughter. Oh well for those who just don't get it; more room for those of us who do!

In my family, I don't think ANY of our friends or family relate to us, as far as our trips to Disneyland go, lol.

My Dad had such animosity towards all things Disney for so long! Back in the 1950's or early 1960's, he was actually turned away at the Disneyland gates because his hair was too long! I don't blame him for being offended, but I was bummed that it made him reluctant to go to Disneyland with us. Then, about 6.5 years ago, he agreed to go. It was the greatest trip ever. He was 69, and not in the greatest health, but he rode every ride we did! I'll never forget the look of excitement on his face as he waited for California Screamin' to take off! I lost him last year, so those memories are so meaningful to me.

I have met people who truly cannot STAND Disneyland. But I just figure it's sort of the same thing as me hating sports. For instance, I'd rather have bamboo shoots shoved under my fingernails than go to a live football game. It doesn't bother me when other people don't like Dland...all it means is that they won't be there crowding up the place, LOL!!!

Growing up I went to DL every summer and then every November as we got older. Disney is in my family's blood. It has to be genetic and one of the few things I inherited from my mother. My dad likes it but I think he goes to make my mom happy.

Unfortunately, I married someone who only went once growing up and just doesn't understand the NEED for DL. This year I think I finally got through to him though...I said "honey...you can go with me or you can go with me" It's not an option.

I work 4 jobs, have a 5 yr old Disney obessessed DS (raising him right!) and my only outside hobbies are cooking and reading. This is my passion and my "hobby". DH would spend every waking moment fishing and that's his passion. I told him DL is exactly like fishing for me. I said, since I work so freakin hard and I'm supporting our family in these tough economic times, then I deserve to go to my freakin' happy place at LEAST once per year. And yes, I did say freakin an awful lot...I was tired and irritated. Further more, since I go fishing (ugh, I hate fishing!) with you almost every freakin weekend when I'm not working then you can suck it up and be a man and go to DL with me.

It's just not the same without him and my family doesn't feel right not having DH with us and you know what....he has actually started to enjoy his time there. Last time he actually admitted to liking a ride! (gasp!) Which is big for the non Disney folks. Plus I drug him now and it goes alot easier for us all!:rolleyes1

Ha ha! The first time we went to Disneyland when our daughter was little I had to give my husband one of my "airplane valium" . Now it's become our tradition. He's just not a crowd person at all, but wants to make his girls happy so he goes with it. Doctors will give you an rx if you have a fear of flying but not a fear of Disneyland! Funny.
He does love the rides and appreciates all the imagination and creativity in the park, just doesn't like all the dang people. Which truthfully I can understand. I'm super excited about this trip because I haven't been in a long time, but my happy place is Kauai. I would go there 4 times a year if I could.
I have friends that go to DLR every year for a week and spend so much money on the trip. For me that would be crazy. I'd rather spend my time and money going somewhere beautiful and tropical and being immersed in nature. After being on this board I realize my friends that are Disney crazy have a lot of company! That's ok...more power to you!

It is kind of funny when people at work here I am going on vacation they almost always assume I am going to Disneyland. (which 80 percent of the time is true!).

I have gotten to the point where I avoid the conversation with my mom, she likes Disney but not nearly as much as I do.

This summer we are going to DLR with all my siblings and their families and my mom. They of course are only staying 3 days, and well we have AP's and are staying much, much longer.

The most wonderful thing is coming to the Dis Boards! :disrocks:

You all are just as obsessed, delighted, and mesmerised by Disney as I am! That is why I love coming here every day!

Wow, OP, that's a little over the top. If I don't like something I'm at least polite about it so that the person talking about it doesn't feel like a complete moron or something. I'm sorry that must have been pretty embarrassing! Luckily for me I am with a boy who I took to DL for the first time, and he just LOVES it. He always says he can't wait for the next trip and we plan them all the time (while we have the money, we'll be moving out in a few months and sadly won't be able to afford it as much, even with AP's:sad2:).

The most annoying thing is his mother always being a total &#^$% about it when we are getting ready to go again. If I have to listen to her say "You guys are going to Disneyland AGAIN?!" one more time... :scared1: But our excuse this year is "We have AP's.. we want to get the most out of them." And most people's responses is "Ahh, Gottcha." Lol. But just like a few others said, it's less people crowding the park! I look around sometimes and wonder why half the people are there anyway, they look miserable and annoyed. Like there was this one group of teenage boys (:headache:) and they were in TOT. They kept saying things like "Oh cause I was just outside and now all of a sudden it's dark and raining!" Being sarcastic. The teenagers ruin it for me.

On that note, I hateeee when people scream for no reason on rides. It ruins the ride and if you're like me and get stuck with those types of people constantly, it makes Disneyland 2384 times less enjoyable. :sad1: I totally understand when we're going down hills and turning turns, but when we are getting our seatbelts checked? :confused3

My siblings are amused by my Disney "love." Yet, they are the first to ask my advice on rental cars or airline discounts - information I learned via various Disney boards and websites.

My DS 18 recently wrote a paper for his English class dissin' WDW! He is not a fan of the lines, or some of the corny rides, but he will tolerate the parks. The paper made me wonder - where did I go wrong??? Oh well, at least I have two other sons that enjoy Disney!

Sorry never cleared a room lol. However when I told Mom that dd14 and I were going to Disneyland for our birthdays I got the token "AGAIN why do you want to go back when there are so many places to go"?

That's a great question!

Here is my answer

I feel safe at Disney, there is a certain comfort level going back to a place you are familiar with, the world is filled with so much negativity and corruption I can go there and it is my mental health break, I for one feel it is a very good value for my dollar, I just really dig themeparks especially Disney and she replied "the crowds how do you handle the crowds"?

How awful! I feel sorry for those people who don't "get it". Everytime we plan a trip to DL, I have to hear my mother in law say, "You know, your little ones won't even remember. It's a waste of $ to take them when they are too little to have any memory of it". I love taking them when they are small, memory or not, because DL is so magical & real through their eyes.

Who says they won't remember?;)

MY DS was 3 1/2 on his 1st trip and we talked about the trip before, we talked about it after and I made a scrapbook that stays in our living room after our trip. He looks through that book once a week at least and talks about the memories and all the fun things we did. He's always been a little advanced verbally...he's a talker!

I think how much they remember has to do with age but also with how much YOU want them to remember. I want my son to remember walking down Main St for the 1st time, and he does! I want him to remember the 1st time he met Mickey and he does! You get my point...

So the next time your MIL says they won't remember, say...Yes, they will!:thumbsup2

Some people just don't get it, but there is no excuse to be rude.

When people tell me my kids won't remember- I tell them so what! I am going for me and to have fun with them- which they do! Also I love the pictures of my kids at the Happiest Place on Earth.

OMG!!! You had the same experience I just had!! The lady down the street just went on a 1 week trip to WDW with her extended family. Including a grandma with emphysema in a scooter, and an aunt (bad knees) in a scooter too. So she just got back and I was hoping to get me some Disney fix since we leave on Friday.

Well, they did NOT have a good time. They all stayed together as a group, and never did get a guest assistance pass for their scooter folk.... It was crowded there, and they didn't get to do much. So, no they wouldn't have had a good time.

I asked her why they didn't split up, and she said since the aunt (maybe?) paid for it for them, they felt like they all needed to stay together. But her main complaint was the rude people on the buses....

I told her that her experience would be completely different if she just took "her" little family, but she was like "not anytime soon".

Poor things... I feel bad for them...

I have friends, yes, very good friends (egad!) who have no desire to ever go to Disneyland. The thought boggles my brain and makes me sad for them, but I do my friendly duty and make sure they know what they are missing, and go on remaining friends with these incredible, amazing, wonderful people, despite their major, huge, gigantic, unfathomable flaw. :lmao:

Sometimes I view enjoying Disney as sort of like a religion: You can show it to someone, you can explain it to them, but if they don't "get it," at some point, you just can't do much more than respect their choice (even if you can't possibly understand it!).

LOL...my DH just goes to his doctor about a week prior to our trip and gets a prescription for Zanex, it's the same thing as valium isn't it?? He just tells the doctor that he doesn't handle crowds well and starts to get hostile and would hate to accidentally injure someone while on his relaxing vacation to hell. Hmm, we've never asked for an rx for Disneyland, maybe we should try. My DH isn't big on going to the Dr. though so he'll most likely mooch mine. I have to have it to fly. I get so stressed on the way to the airport I make myself sick. My DH is the one of those people that doesn't even look up when the plane hits turbulence, but around a big crowd he gets anxious.

I hope he survives this trip because we've always gone in May while school is in but this time we are going June 21 to 24th. I've heard the first 2 days of our trip will be really crowded. Maybe we'll leave him at the hotel until the APs get blocked...;)

I used to feel like my MIL thought we were pretty ridiculous for our repeated DLR trips, too.

So this Summer, I'm taking her with us!! Treating her, her husband, and their two grandaughters (whom they've been raising since birth) to a huge Disney vacation. 5 days in the parks! And you know what? I think she's more excited than the kids, LOL!!! I can't wait to see her have a blast!

All those that do not like to visit DL need a little more magic and pixie dust in their lives, but they just don't know it yet.

I came home from work today and the first thing my DGS (3 yrs) tells me is..."I want to go to Mickey's House". He has about a six month wait so I think I'll be hearing this for quite a while.:rotfl:

this thread cheered me up today! hanks disfriends!!!!
I thought it was only me who keeps hearing crap about going to DL from my mom and friends. Sure its true that I have finacial problems, but nowadays who doesn't? I just happen to want to spend all my extra money on a DL trip. Speaking of moms, mine was going to go with us in Aug to help out with an extra room (long story- its somewhere on a thread LOL) but now she says she cant afford it and wont go! WTH !!! But she can afford 2 packs of cig a day and takes her new dog to a expensive obedience school. /sigh. We only see her once a year too, and she is always complaining how her grandkids are getting to old, etc. She is always telling me that I cant afford to go either. which makes me mad.

I also dont get it when people say its a waste of money to take lil kids. When I took my DS who was 1 last year for the first time- watching his facial expressions and seeing the magic in his eyes was amazing!! I teared up from joy on every ride just watching him! I will never forget that memory!:lovestruc

Oh YES! You can totally get meds for Disneyland, we do it every time! Thanks to DH's amazing doctor.:worship:

Just be honest and explain the situation. If DH really has problems with crowds, like mine does then it shouldn't be an issue.

BTW, I've become more fearful of plane travel as I get older. My fears come from wanting to make it to my destination alive and not leave my child without a mother. Sadly in the future I see myself forcing DH to take a separate flight then me, that way if one of us dies, DS will still have one living parent. However, it's ok (at least in my rational) for us all to be on the same plane with DS, that way if we go down, we all go together.:thumbsup2 Crazy, morbid thoughts....yes, get the meds, meds are great...

We went when we were younger (about 1990) on New Year's Eve and it was crazy! I have never seen crowds like that ever! My sister and I waited 3 hours for Splash. So now everytime I mention DL my sister screams. She won't even "try" DL again despite my reassurances.

Friends don't get our Disney obsession either. But when they saw our Disney Guest Bedroom that holds all of our collection, they were more intrigued. Or maybe horrified, I'm not sure. Friends just shake their heads and tell us that there's other cities in the US to visit. Which, we make a point to go visit NYC, NOLA, CHI, SF or any other major city for a few days once or twice a year too, just to give us a variety.

BUT, all of our obsession has paid off.

In October, we're taking my partners best friend for the first time. We're taking one of our best friends for the first time. Plus, we're taking my best friend for the 2nd time. He went with us 2 years ago, and he still talks about the best vacation he has ever had....our trip to Disneyland. He's so excited that he's asked me if I've finished our itenerary yet so he can see what we're going to do and when.

People CAN be converted. :)

You guessed it DL:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:. In April I found cheap flights to the mouse with Westjet, so DH is going to be stuck with the kids for 9 days, while I'm having fun at the mouse. Our friends and family think I'm nuts for going, as I could have gone alot of other places, but found that I didn't want to spend the entire day flying, and with my bad back was limited to a certain degree how long of a flight it could take. So let CHAOS reign while I'm away. We are taking the kids on a surprise trip to the mouse for 2 weeks in Feb, so since they know that they are going sometime next year, they are not too mad at me:upsidedow.

were you having lunch with my mother in law??
:rotfl2:

The day my husband (unwisely) said to me
"haven't we seen everything at DisneyWorld,
do we need to go back?"

:scared1:   :sad2:

and I (unable to hold back) began to cry,

he promised to never, ever, ever
trash talk Disney in our home...
or when I am within earshot.

Ah.......... :goodvibes

My father in law
has AP's for himself, his new wife, and her granddaughter.

:wizard: :cheer2:

I have learned that life is too short to waste my passion on the ignorant.

I most profusely agree with your statement! :thumbsup2

Yes, my tale is but a true one. It took place during a lunch break for a phone sales job. That was another horror! Good thing that I like horror stories. ;)

mariezp....

How awesome a visit to the land for two weeks! Don't forget to stop on by to pick me up, I will be the one sitting on the curb in Petaluma, with a bag or two packed. I will be holding a sign up, so you know it is me, and not just some other pan handler. ;)
Seriously though .... just let me know when to be ready. :)
