What's the best way to get to Aquarium of the Pacific from DL w/o renting a car?

I really don't think you can get there without renting a car. When we visited in December 2005 it took us about an hour (or a little longer) to drive to the aquarium from Disneyland. Maybe someone who lives in the area could give you more current info :)

For future reference, these types of questions arise all the time here. No one person here is an expert on all the transportation options in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. The fastest way to get accurate information is to do what I did - go to metro.net (http://www.metro.net) and use the trip planner.

There are three possible combinations of buses listed for the trip from DLR to AotP. You should use enter the time and day you want to arrive at the aquarium to find out your options. Unfortunately, the journey will take a long time - the shortest itinerary I found for a particular Saturday morning trip is listed as taking 2 hours and 19 minutes.

WoW!! I was only trying to help and I said I think (not I know for sure). I gave the info I had in order to bump the question a little higher, I felt badly for the original poster as over 70 people had read the question and there were no answers. Sorry if I offended you I was just trying to help. Guess I'll keep the little I know to myself from now on.

ETA: We are renting a car specifically so we can go to the aquarium and the beach, as I couldn't figure out another way to do it. We have no experience with public transportation where we are--we have busses etc, but, we never go downtown so the busses don't go where we need to go and I wouldn't have a clue how to use the Metro planner thingie you talked about :(

Really? It takes that long? I looked up directions on mapquest & it said 33 minutes. Is the difference due to traffic? I was hoping we could maybe just take a taxi, but wanted to check if there were other ways of getting there. Maybe we won't go there.
BOTH of you, thanks for responding!

I can't let that absurd attack by someone who wasn't even mentioned in my post go unanswered. Adding helpful information is a good thing. People post on these boards to get help with trip planning. Is that so hard to understand?

(and I love the ignore capability)

We loved the aquarium so much that DD has requested that we visit in August. There are lots of hands-on exhibits and such. There may be a faster way to get there from DLR I really don't know. I will say it was lots of fun and a quiet break from DLR. Have a great trip!

I just looked it up on Google maps (out of curiousity with the time discrepancy) and it said 30 min by car, 2 hrs 11 min by public transportation. The difference seemed to be that you need to take two buses (with wait time in between both buses, plus, I would assume, the stops each bus makes along the route) plus do some walking and the buses take a different route (less direct) than you would go by car.

So a taxi might be your best bet if you don't want to rent a car. HTH.

My boys LOVE aquariums, in fact, we went to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago today. I want to be able to take them while at DL.
That makes sense about buses taking longer. So maybe a taxi is an option.
Thanks everyone for your help!
