Woken up by beeping noise in Room 3123 at BWV

Just back from staying at BWV in a 1BR (Room 3123) from 1 April to 13 April.

Everything was wonderful with the exception of a mysterious beeping noise which lasted about a minute before fading away and woke us up on many nights. We could not identify the source.

Any ideas?

Maybe it was a crazy alarm clock. I hope that that was your only problem.

Last year when we stayed at the CR we heard a horrible beeping noise every now and then. Turns out it was the garbage truck backing up to the dumpster!

Most likely a dead battery in a smoke detector???

I beleive this happened to us on one of our stays at the BW too.

It could have been a truck like the other poster suggested---maybe a delivery truck or something backing up. Sorry you were inconvenienced though.

I don't know about FL building codes, but up here, smoke detectors have to be part of the electrical wiring, not battery powered. I've never been convinced that's a good idea, though...

Yes I agree that a wired smoke detector does seem better, however during our stay they did come in and replaced something in the detector and the beeping stopped. They took the unit off the wall and there was no wires attached.

I know this is not really an answer to the original post but I thought some people might want to know...
Here we have electric smoke alarms with a battery back-up in case of power failure. When the battery is running low it will make a horrible high pitched noise every now and then to alert you to the fact that you need to replace it. Apparently they program the things to do this in the middle of the night when you are badly in need of a good night's sleep. ;) But the truck backing-up idea sounds good too.

There are two types of smoke/fire detectors in use and the ones in the hallways are powered by the line power but have a battery backup (self-charging) that occasionally needs to be replaced. This makes the faint beeping sound heard in the rooms.

But, i was at another hotel where the emergency lighting also has a similar provision when the rechargable battery had to be replaced.
