Disney archivist Dave Smith just confirmed for me that Pixar's 'Newt' "has been cancelled"

http://pixarblog.blogspot.com/ is gonna have a post up about it shortly

Personally I don't mind this. The premise sounded so so so weird/lame.

Two newts, Newt and Brooke, live in a community college biology lab and don't care for each other, yet as the last remaining blue-footed newts on the planet, they are forced to mate and carry on the tradition.

Huh?

So I guess we'll see what happens from there.

Weird, though, that it got this far and sunddenly is canned!

Perhaps it will be turned into a Pixar Short.

I'm pretty glad about this, personally. It sounded pretty weird, like you said. Premise was too bizarre.

It does sound like a weird idea, but I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before. Once I saw an episode of Eliza Thornberry (that red head girl who travelled the world and could talk to animals) but it was about tortoises. :rotfl:

That above is all I've read about it, but agreed.

Hahaha I remember The Wild Thornberrys!

But yeah I dunno about newt, the concept with science obviously is very unique and interesting, but in the end it just sounded so much like the typical "oh this boy and this girl can't stand each other but in the end they have to fall in love!" or maybe it wouldn't end that way :P
also I never understood how Pixar would explain the whole 'mating' thing for a family movie... heh.
