Hi all

My friends just went to check in for the VS015 tomorrow to Florida, and were told there is a 6 hour delay. Has anyone heard anything about it, or know why? Is it to do with the ash cloud?

Yes,I'm afraid it is because of the ash cloud.Planes are having to re route around it.Its currently over part of the Atlantic(just off the coast of Ireland) all the way down to the coast of Spain. At least planes at the moment are having the chance to go around. Tell your friends they are lucky that its only a delay :)

Basically, yes, it is still to do with the ash cloud. Our flight yesterday (VS15 on Monday) had a 8-hour delay, and then our 8-hour flight became 10-hours because of the new route we had to take to avoid the clouds. The turnarounds are tight as it is, so with the flights taking longer than they normally would, things start getting behind, and then it's just a snowball effect. By the sounds of it, he is having more luck than we did, and leaving a few hours earlier! At least they won't be landing at 2 in the morning! :scared1:

We had the same problem flying home Saturday, our flight was delayed by 5 hrs and then an additional 2 hours on the flying time to fly around the cloud.

The captain said the plane was delayed in London as the are having a bottle neck situation to get over the Atlantic, there's too many planes trying to get through a small gap and planes have to take their turn, plus they are re-routed around.

When we flew home Friday we were only 1 1/2 hrs late but I was chatting to a member of the cabin crew and he said if things stay as they are he expects the delays to get worse before they get better.

The problem is all the flight times are taking longer and there is no room to make it up in turnarounds.

Strangely the Virgin estimates for Manchester seem much better today. The CAA did relax the 60 mile buffer zone yesterday so maybe that massively widens the transatlantic corridor compared to earlier in the week!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow's 1:45 flight for me.

I'm hoping because Thursday is the first day of the week that the second daily flight starts that we won't suffer the cumulative delays others have experienced. Sorry that's selfish but reaaalllllyyyy need this holiday.

Caught the tail end of the travel expert on GMTV this morning. He was saying that the Manchester flight was delayed 10 hrs. Not sure if that was going or coming back. He may even have meant yesterday.... as I say I only caught the end.
Good luck to everyone traveling. Keeping fingers crossed for you. :wizard:

Yeah, I think the current flight back is very late, was due in 7:25 and estimated at 17:50 so just over 10 hours.

Their showing todays 10:25 outbound though as only an hour late which must mean they've borrowed a plane or used something from a different route as usually it would be the inbound plane turned around.

Fingers crossed for everyone, such a shame for people coming home to spend hours in the airport then hours on a plane more than necessary. I'm dreading that with two young kids.

I'm off on VS015 on Monday with some friends and we're keeping our fingers and toes crossed that the delays won't be so bad.

The only major concern I have about the delays is having to drive in the middle of the night after such a long day - we are driving down to Bradenton from Orlando. Hopefully can get some sleep on the plane but driving for 2hrs at 3am will not be a good start to the holiday!

Oh well, at least the planes are still taking off I suppose!

Hi Yuzuki, same flight as us then.

Virgin provide it but it's a bit of a pain.

Here's a direct link to our flight

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/flighttimes/getFlightStatusResults.do?flightnumber=73&flightDate=2010:05:13T00:00:00&departureAptCode=MAN&arrivalAptCode=MCO&refer=/flighttimes/flightstatus/index.jsp

The fact there is no estimated departure bodes well I think. Let's see if the one posted above actually lands at the time it says it will as that should indicate if the others will stay on schedule.

Frankly I don't fancy 10 hours in Terminal 2 despite the makeover it had a coupld of years ago.

Thanks London75 :)

I wont have access to the internet tmw so i wont be able to keep an eye on it but i guess we'll be getting to the airport just after the morning flight is due to leave, so it'll be a nice surprise :)

I don't fancy 10 hours in the airport either but I suppose its better than a cancelled holiday :) Fortunately it's just me and my boyfriend so no small children to keep entertained, just one big one, haha.

Well, if it's any consolation to you, it was only me and my sister that were awake for most of the flight to Orlando! We were up in PE, but everyone else had gone to sleep straight after dinner, despite it being light outside. That was after an 8-hour delay. We ended up crashing after about 5hrs in the air. With the extra flight time, everyone managed to get a pretty decent amount of sleep, and we were all good to drive when we arrived. We just kept the air-con on freezing and continued to talk about everything and nothing to ensure we all stayed awake!

We are SUPPOSED to leave wednesday 19th May,as i said before i would be quite happy with delays at the moment, but with 2 kids on those really uncomfy chairs for possibly a long time i decided to book ourselves into the "Escape Lounge"(i think it s called). We can go in there for three hours, and if the flight is delayed we can pay to stay longer(as long as its not full). It has hot cold drinks,a buffet with fruit and pastries, internet connection and comfy seats. And it will be a lot more chilled out.I think most airports have an equivilent. We are fling from Manchester.
