We are flying to Las Vegas next March, but flying home from LA. We have a fixed date we need to fly on. The flights have just come out and are a bit more expensive than I'd hoped. Do you think this sort of flight would be in a sale or not? I don't have many options as only BA and Virgin seem to fly direct and I don't want to fly BA.

Due to the BA strike announcement's Virgin have no reason what-so-ever to hold a decent sale. Not saying they won't, just that it could be unlikely. Combind with the ash issue I imagine all companies are suffering right now and need to recoup as much as possible. We can live in hope though.

The biggest problem is the taxes. Even if the airlines give the flights away, the prices are still going to be higher than we were used to a couple of years ago.

You might have to go indirect. On top of the points that nemmie made, it's worth bearing in mind that there are relatively few direct flights to LA from the UK, so the airlines can afford to charge whatever they want for the convenience.

Could you consider in and out of LA. Then either drive or short flight to Vegas.

We went with United or American from heathrow to LA (can't remember which it is a few years ago)

The drive up to Vegas is one of my clearest memories...driving and seeing nothing much for miles then you glimse Vegas.

We ended up going on a Thursday 29th March to save money on the flight - went to a dearer season in April.

We were going to do that but as we are going for a wedding in Vegas we want as much time as possible there.
