I'm new to the DVC board but not to Disney. We love it so much we are working on buying. trying to figure out how many points to buy, where, when etc.
My question is how many points are need for the cruise(3 or 4 day)?
I couldn't find it on the boards. Disney is mailing us more brochures and nitty gritty info but I'm eager.

It varies considerably depending on the time of year you intend to travel and the gategory of the stateroom you you would like to stay in.
Plus the points may go up every year.
Personally, I would not join the DVC for the cruise but rather for the resort I would want to vacation at most often. The cruise as you will see throughout these threads is not the best way of utilizing your points. You derive the biggest benefit by staying at your vacation resort.

If you are planning on taking the cruise at about $3000 cash you can instead use this cash as a downpayment and finance the rest. Don't use the MB program, get last years points and this years soon, combine them and take the cruise. Then go back to WDW for the next 40 some years. Off hand, I'm not sure of the various point charges for the cruise but we've gone twice on points...spruce

I've been twice in the last two years. Saw the castle as a cake(I'm glad that's over) and we went for the Milennium. before that it had been years. We like staying on property and taking advantage of the perks. Like the tours etc.
But we haven't cruised yet. this year my husband and I are going on a Princess cruise and my daughter son and grandson are going to disney.
It's terrible here I am going on a wonderful "GRAND" cruise for a week and I'm jealous.
We will definately buy in, just trying to work out the details. One of the snags is we are in NY and we can't buy from here yet.

Hey neighbor. Make the most of your points, go where and when you want! So what if th epoint value is a little higher for non DVC resorts and the cruise. I've done the cruise with points and have no regrets. By the way, unless your heart stuck on WLV you can buy a resale through the sponsor on the top and not worry about being a NY'er.

We just joined the DVC WLV. We plan on taking the points from this year and next year and doing the 4 day cruise and 5 day stay at the lodge. To us, using our points for a cruise/land package is exciting. Can't wait until Feb. 2002!!!

New York Has approved DVC we joined in 95 and added on twice since then.WLV is not approved in NYS yet. When you close on your points you will get 2 Huge Books stating the approval in New York State.
