So I just decided to split our SoCal trip to include 4 nights at DLH & 3 nights in SD.... looking for recommendations for a great place to stay in San Diego that is on the beach & affordable (but looks luxury, if thats possible? LOL!). Not crazy about having expensive parking either.... I really don't know why pretty much all the places I've looked at in Cali charge a parking fee when you already spend $$$ to stay there! Just not used to this concept... I have looked into the Dana, Pacific Terrace, & Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, which so far look the best to me. We will be staying on my husband's birthday & I know the Dana offers a free night bday package and PT offers Buy 2, get 1 free night, so I'd definitely be interested in finding an offer with book 2 nights, get the 3rd night free. Suggestions please & opinions welcome!! Also if you have any pictures of these hotels that you've stayed at, I'd love to see them!! Would like to be near Sea World or the Zoo. TIA!!

I believe the Hotel Del Coronado has some stay for free nights deals going on throughout the spring and summer. We are doing the pay for 3, get 2 free. It isn't inexpensive and it does charge for parking - but I think if you want something on a nice beach that looks luxurious you are going to pay for parking no matter where you stay!
We thought about the Hyatt too but I did some research on here and it got really mixed reviews.

We just got back from Kona Kai on Shelter Island...we LOVED it!! The pool view rooms open right out onto the harborside (has a sandy beach and play ground) and right accros the front street is the bay. Very comfortable surroundings for a family - I highly recommend it.
P.S. We paid $89/nite during Easter week.

Has anyone stayed at the Catamaran that can give me some opinions? It looks kinda like the Poly at WDW which would be ideal!

Stay away from Paradise Point. Had a family wedding there a year and a half ago. DW & I stayed elsewhere after reading the terrible reviews on TripAdvisor. But most of the family stayed at Paradise Point, and hated it. My in-laws room was so old and moldy that my MIL was wheezing. I spent a couple of hours in their room, and I couldn't breathe either. The wedding site was beautiful, and Mission Bay in the background made for beautiful pictures. But I'm so glad that DW & I decided to stay elsewhere.

Hotel Del Coronado definitely. Very expensive but very worth it.

Last year I stayed at the Bahia on Mission Bay. It is walking distance to the beach. I was there for a work conference and enjoyed the hotel. It is also close to Sea World & Belmont Park.

which would you say are the most kid friendly....pools, clubs (activities) etc.. but still nice for parents (and grandma).
Some that i looked at don't seem to have much onsite dining, what do you do for breakfast (especially if you do not want a sit down meal every morning.)?
