Connection - Delta in ATL?

I'm thinking of booking a flight connecting in Atlanta on the way to Orlando. I've flown thru Atlanta once before (on my way home from Los Angeles), and it was a little hectic (arrived in ATL around 7PM one night). Would a Friday morning in ATL (around 9AM) be bad? Is an hour long enough to make a connection? Coming back we can go thru CVG, so I'll take that one.

An hour is standard in Atlanta. Mornings are better than evenings generally in Atlanta.

As long as you are booked/scheduled on a specific flight on Delta out of Atlanta it's OK- went smoothly for me. One hour was plenty of time. However, standby is something else! 7.5 hours later I was on my originally scheduled flight - had wanted to get home earlier.

Changing in Atlanta at 9:00AM should be fine. When there are delays, they are usually later in the day. If you don't like changing in Atlanta, you'd better fly a different airline!;)

And, another little problem. I can't get a seat assignment on the ATL-MCO flight (all the seats left are for preferred flyers), so I'd have to wait till the day of the flight to get the seat assignment. Wonder what the chance is that they won't have seats for us?

Last time we took Delta thru Atl, we couldn't get seat assignments either. I was very nervous. We ended up getting seats in first class!!!!

I didn't realize Delta didn't have assigned seats. I thought it was normal since we're not leaving till November for our Honeymoon. Being bumped up to First Class would be a nice treat but I"m not holding my breath. Is there anything else I should know about flying Delta?

Delta does normally have assigned seats. In fact if you're a Skymiles member (join for free) you can choose your own seats online. But they withhold a few seats for preferred customers so if the plane is almost full you may not have an assigned seat.

Depending on your fare category and departure city, you can sometimes buy a cash upgrade to first class on Delta. Price is $40, $60, or $80 depending on how long the flight is. I've done this twice and think it's great. However availability is uncertain.

Almost everytime I fly Delta, I change planes in Atlanta. When I saw this thread I was reminded of something I was told many years ago:

When you die, it doesn't matter whether you go to heaven or hell, because you will have to change planes in ATLANTA! (I guess Delta is the airline of the after-life!)

We originally had seat assignments, but when we checked in, they told us we didn't have seat assignments!!!! I was concerned that we would be bumped....which isn't bad either sometimes!!!
I really like flying Delta, but since they don't have non-stops from ISP to MCO anymore, we've switched to SW.
