I spoke with a CM in the Art of Disney on Friday, and she said they just started a Vinylmation trading program about 5 days ago. They have little clear boxes set up at the register that you can see 3 dolls. If you want to trade one that you already have for one of those - you can. Then back behind the register they had a black box with I believe something like 24 numbers on it. You could pick a number and then you could trade for whichever vinylmation doll was in that spot. I don't know if every shop is doing it yet, but I saw it there, and also in the Space Mountain gift shop.
Sounds like a neat idea - especially if you ended up with two of the same doll.

If you are not a member of the forum called Vinylnation ( N not an M) you need to go there and sign up. You will learn everything there is to know as well as be able to trade with other members there.
Don't wait they are all as great as the members here on this forum.

Ooh I like this idea!! I started collecting Vinylmation in January for myself and my nieces. We picked up a couple more on this past trip. So far we've lucked out and haven't gotten any dupes.

We bought these really cute little Vinylmations that are actually keychains. I have it hanging from my purse, the one I got is just so me. LOL It's a pale yellow with pink and green pasley prints on it. Absolutely adorable!!!

Wow - this is great news. Our boys collect Vinylmation and they will be thrilled by this choice! Thanks!

Thanks for the info! DH and I purchased several on our recent trip. It is an addiction! Luckily we didn't get any duplicates either. We have the holiday collection which I think are adorable! In the Christmas Shoppe at MK you can buy the gingerbread one that is in a special tin (it is a little higher priced that the others).

they are VCDs. VCD = Vinyl Collectible Doll

Vinyl Collectible Dolls = This (http://www.delilahnoir.com/Articles.asp?ID=131&gclid=CKuXqa3luaECFRRjnAodiGHiRA), This (http://www.pamelascorneronline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Masterpiece&ppcsrc=google&gclid=CIKw4LrluaECFUNb2godcRmV-g), or even This (http://www.comicsinfinity.com/listing.aspx?ProductID=TASTRCOM09)

Vinylmation is more akin to Dunnys and Qees, which are not generally called VCDs.

But hey, it was less criticism than observation. After all technically the argument can be made that any small toylike figure can be called a "doll", it's just not a term that's typically applied to this style of toy. I stand by my statement.

Hi kristin t,
Thanks SO much for sharing. I love collecting these and while I have only ended up with a few duplicates there are some I would love to be able to trade. Sounds like a great idea. Thanks again for sharing! :thumbsup2

I can tell you that the new vinalmation store in DTD does this as well. My DW wanted a particular one, the DCL one, but hated the idea of buying several in hopes of getting the one she wanted. A CM walked by and told her that if she just bought one, there was one for trade at her register. So she bought one and opened it right there then swapped for the DCL one. This was a few weeks ago. If you havent been to the store yet and are into this, you have to go.

We were there when they started this. The kids did it a couple times at the Coronado Springs Resort gift shop. Not sure if all resort gift shops are doing it but I would assume they are.

The only drawback to the CM trading is they don't ask for the artist card. If you are the type who wants the card too, like me, best to give it a pass and trade with other collectors online. If you don't care about the cards though, it's a really great way to trade!

This was the first time I had heard that too! Guess that is why they have removed the 9" from the Art of Disney stores since they are now classified as toys and not collectables and are no longer available for mail order.:headache:

Some very few people have reported trading a vinyl with a card and receiving a vinyl with card back. Hopefully this will happen since I am one who wants to trade at the parks but also wants the artist card!

I think it also has to do with the fact that each park now has a store that deal primarily in VM. So that one store can serve as the primary distribution point for any new releases. Also, they have been adding all new releases to the DisneyStore.com website. I lucked out and got one of the Space Mountain 9" that way, even though they sold out in hours at the parks. Most likely to cut down on eBaying the VM's and increasing the ability for people not at the parks to get them. Since most of the recent 9" releases have sold out in hours or days, forcing the CM at AoD to spend the time trying to deal with people on the phone isn't really feasible now.

Changing the classification from collectibles to toys I think also has to do with their push into open editions where you can see the VM you are getting. Those are really no longer a collectible as there is no scarcity. It would be hard to explain to every tourist why this VM in a sealed box is a collectible, but the one over there in a clear box isn't. Much easier from a logistics standpoint to call em all toys.

D-Street should be able to do phone orders then to even the playing field. You were very lucky to get a Space Mountain as they sold out in 1 hour online. Once they hit disneyonline, it doesn't take long to sell out because they don't receive very many to sell. The Park 4's were only on for about 1/2 day before they were gone.
I really don't think it will cut down eBaying as far as vinyls go. I think it will actually increase vinyls on eBay as some people were walking out of D-Street with 10 Sully and Boo 9 inch vinyls when they were released. They are now sold out so they will not end up on Disney shopping. DisneyStore.com doesn't get enough 9 inches to sell so the people that live near WDW will be able to buy them up and put them on eBay for crazy prices.

Yes very few but unfortunately it's all too uncommon for me to even hope for. :(.

I still don't get the whole collectible vs toy distinction. Having collected all too many toys over the years the idea that they are somewhat mutually exclusive just doesn't compute for me, haha

I'm still hoping. I will be taking my traders and cards with me when we go this summer. If they don't have the card, I just won't trade unless I trade a clear that didn't have a card.
Maybe someone will start selling cards on eBay to help those who trade and don't receive cards...

One of my trades came with a card this week!

I consider that a lucky moment though after Steven Miller said it was designed to be done without the cards, and apparently CMs aren't even supposed to take them.

Got an Urban 3 Cheeseburger - felt kinda bad as the figure I was trading for it, I had gotten from another blind trade the day before, and it had no card with it to give.

Did you see the new pics of the Condiment set from yesterday's trading night? I admit I was doubtful about it at first, but the salt and pepper shakers, and honey bear really did it for me. Price is a little steep at $85 for the six pack though. :/

Yes! I love that set! Esp. the honey bear! They are limited to 2000 though. They are about $14 a piece which is almost if not the same price of the Big Eyes. I hope I can get a set!

They have a designated vinylmation trading time each day at the Yacht Club gift shop and over at the Beach Club gift shop too. Not sure of the exact times.

On the VinylNation forums they have an artist card buy/trade thread -- I had traded one of my vinyls in WDW and got one without a card and was recently able to purchase the card to go alongside it! If you're wanting to complete your card collection after trades it's a good place to look.

We were at DTD last week. There were about 4 different locations that actually did the trading. Most of the cast members were very good, some even let the boys try several times to get a vinyl they wanted or needed. They said one trade per person per day per location. However, for the most part, they CM's let them try a few times until they got one they wanted. We went down with about 12 to trade and came back with 12 different ones. They boys were sooooo happy to have added to our collection!

I read this thread and I want to ask for clarification.

We are going to Disneyland (CA) in September.

Are there stores there that provide the opportunity to trade a vinylmation?

Can I just bring one with me and then the kids could pick out one they want?

Do they have to have tags or packaging to be tradeable? Can they be played with?

I was going to buy a few of the clear that are on sale for $5.99. Can we bring these with us and trade them for ones we see at the store?

Thanks - as you can see I am new at this - we won't be avid collectors or traders but I thought it would be something fun for the kids to do if I brought some pins and some vinylmation "dolls" to trade.

Thanks all!

vinynation is great site to find out the lastest information on ones that have been released and any that have not. I have made some great trades and made some great friends on the site as well, also you can find better deals on that site for vinys then what ebay has. I was able to complete two of the series. id also be willing to make trades to anyone on here, i do have some double that id be willing to trade for ones i dont have.

I have the following 3" from Park 3 series to trade
Big Al, WDW Castle, Carousal, Pirate Auctioneer, America Sings, Monorail Blue, Animation, and Mission Spacesuit. They all have the cards. I am looking for some of the early Park 1 and 2 and Urban 1 and 2.
