Hello Hakuna Matata!!

It's May the month of graduations, May flowers, Mother's day and great races! Let's adopt the Irish slogan and make this a month of mirth and merriment! What a great time of year to celebrate life!

Here's hoping that all our teammates are hail and hearty. And that you have the legs of a Kentucky Derby winner, the heart of a Lion and the sensitivity of a posy!

To the best team and team mates of all: Connie, Dave, Denise, Eva, Gerry, Hope, Jack, Jennifer, Kim, Kristie, Lorelei, Mary, Margie, Mike, Pam, Regina, Robert, Scott & Lynn, Shannan, Sue, Vicky, Taryn, Figment82.

Awe Gee Mom we were having fun in April.

Margie my Birthday is Oct 7th, I will be 59 this year. One more year to a new age catagory.

Not sure when I'll race again, probably do one or two a month though.

My training walk this morning was a .8 mile warm up, 4 miles in 48:13 and a half mile cool down. Now I'm icing my achillies.

Have a wonderful day y'all.

Hi everyone,

Seems like we're finally through the storms.

Did 6.25 miles in about 50 minutes (don't know exactly as the batteries on my Garmin ran out have way through)

Best,

We are still in the middle of the storms and flooding, Nashville is getting it worse than here but we are only 60 miles from there. My friends there say it's pretty yucky.

Hi Team!

Today was a lovely day. Dh, Sydney and I ran 4 miles today in 41:16. I felt pretty good at the end of the run. My legs are a little sore now. We ran 3 miles yesterday but I have no idea what the time was because my ipod froze on me! It’s the 2nd time now that it’s done that…and I’m a wee bit frustrated about it. Dh told me he will get me a garmin that will track my time and distance, but not sure when we will buy it. 3 weeks until my first race ever!!:woohoo: Haha, can you tell I'm a little excited?

Dave- It’s always nice to have a day off once in awhile! How long do the storms typically last over there?

Hope- Sounds like a perfect day for your wedding. Is your wedding going to be themed?

Margie- Sometimes I like thunderstorms. I enjoy listening to them every so often. How are you feeling? Are you still dehydrated?

Lynn- What will you and Scott be doing in Europe? Are you going to several countries while you are there? The Denver half sounds like fun! Once I make it through this first half for wine & dine, I have a goal to attend one of the Rock N Roll runs next year. Music at every mile sounds like a blast to me.

Mary- Congrats on your decision to be more healthy and walk everywhere! That’s awesome!

Vicky- WTG! I’m sure you will be back at it full force in no time. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks to Margie and Dave for the compliments on my runs! I appreciate your encouragement!

Good Morning, Team! :wave2:

Partly Cloudy-Rain-Thunderstorms again today; 73° but not as windy.
Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph.

Flooding in the South: Be Safe…Dave KY; Jennifer MS; Shannan NC
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean declared a state of emergency for the
metropolitan area of Davidson County, where hundreds of people had been
rescued from the rising waters, and 45,000 people remained without power
on Sunday.

Connie-sound like you are really enjoying the Grand Kids!

Dave- Glad to hear Sally took another week off.
That surgery can really mess your body up.
Hope you had a great walk at the mall!
Keep us updated on Roberts Tennessee State trials
for the National Senior Olympics.

Hope- Go For It- it’s your Special Day :bride: you are allowed
to have any cake you want! BTW I do like chocolate with
raspberry sauce.

Kristie- is your arm painful? Are you icing?
Tinkerbell is such a wonderful little dog.
Has she been trained to help you?

Jennifer- Okay, Learning Experience Here!
I did not know that ellipticals had a random setting.
I think the ones I use you have to choose a program or go manual.
So I will check that out.
For me I move the stride setting; the weight; then go manual;
the difficulty I set depends on how I feel and if I am using it to
just warm up or for cardio.

What is in the Tuna Sandwich mix-I have not seen it?

Kim- Goodness-what’s happened to you?

Mary- Whew, that make me feel better!
Walking 3-miles with bags of groceries.
I seriously do not think I would make it.
Maybe if it fit into one of those little thin sports backpacks-
Thinking if I left my wagon outside
the store it would not be there when I returned.

Mike- Soooo eager to hear your race report.
I looked but see no way to track you & Liz
http://www.aztecassault.com/Index.html

Regina- WTG that was another nice run! :goodvibes
Thanks! I feel better. It is hard to drink water as it makes
me feel nauseous, but am forcing it. Drank two bottles of Gatorade over the weekend.

Robert- we need your special recipe for Veggie Soup!
Is it for one meal a day?
What else do you eat with it?

Sue- Hummmm…taper does not mean no posting!

Vicky-Congratulations you have now lost 5# WTG!
WTG on your first run following injury.
Did it hurt during the night?
How is it this morning?

Happy Monday everyone!

Margie - Thanks so much for keeping track of our team's birthday, weight loss and race calendar! Much much easier to see what' going on this way. The ankle is doing well... I double taped it for my run it felt better. Too bad about all the humidity on Sunday. I had forgotten how hard it is to breathe in humid weather.

Hope - I like fruit cakes but it's usually something I have to be in the mood for. Someone introduced me to Red Velvet cake last year and I have to say that it's one of my new favourites! Although I still love a good old fashion chocolate frosted cake!

Regina - Did you decide which Garmin you're getting. I remember a couple of weeks ago, there was a $50 rebate on. That offer seems to pop up every few months. So at the end of your 10K, do you get rum? :)

Connie - How was your visit with Melissa? Is our team race coming up this month? Was it a 5K?

Dave - I had forgotten our birthdays were so close together! Yay for October birthdays :)

Jennifer - I've had that happen a couple of times to my Garmin. Frustrating!

Kim - How's the PX90 going? Your cruise is coming up isn't it?

Sue - Any plans for Mother's Day? It's the same day as Mississauga right?

AFM - I've got a question for the bakers in the group... I found a recipe for oatmeal bread. It seems easy enough to make but in the instructions it says to refrigerate for an hour and then fold the dough - it says to do this about 3-4 times. I wanted to make this bread for brunch one day but don't really feel like spending 4 hours on it - do I really need to repeat this refrigerating and folding process so many times? Does it have to do with the yeast? Can I make it and leave it overnight? Help :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Bunny princess in another life my ex had a bread maker, you just add the stuff and a little while later bread came out.

I had a good nights sleep last night so workout was 200m repeats on the track at 62 sec average time, 20 min of pool sprints in the 5' deep water and good stretching for mad achillies.

We had double the record rainfall for a 3 day period but today is sunny and very nice.

Good racing guys.

Good Monday Morning Team!

Margie, I gave you the wrong date for my race. I'm 2 weeks away May 16th. Thanks.
No time for posting. Really busy at work. We are short 1 person. They took a new job over 2 months ago & no one has been hired to replace them.

Vicky, I think I said Miss. was Mother's Day but it's the next Sun the 16th. No plans.

Nothing exciting to report. We had really humid weather this weekend. Got out for a 12 miler. Changing up my week because of other plans so took Sunday off for a change.

Need to get back to work..........Have a great day everyone.......Sue

Hi Team,
I found the new thread! Glad everyone is doing so well!

The Aztec Assault race went pretty well, meaning I survived it! We got there really early as we did not know how parking was going to be. It was overcast and looking like it was about to rain for most of the morning, but it cleared up and the sun came out in force. It started off with about a half mile run through a field and along some vehicle ruts, and then into a wooded area where we had to cross a creek on some old logs. Then onto more running and some metal culvert tunnels to crawl through then to a set of planks across a draingage ditch, then a rope swing across a small mud pit, and more running down the airport runway where the race was being held. Next came tires to run though, like on a football field, then a long run down another part of the field and over some wooden pallets nailed together as hurdles. (3) And then a long run back to a pyramid of round hay bales which we had to climb over. Then a long run to a mud pit and up a hill to the finish line!

The running was tough as the grass was mowed tall with plenty of dandelions grabbing at our feet. The hardest obstacle for me was the hay bales as the first one was pretty hard to get up on as it was so tall. I had to pull myself up by using the webbing that was holding it together. I had to stop to walk a couple of times near the end , but charged right into the mud pit. I found out that it is really hard to run while covered in mud, as your feet gain quite a few pounds!

The had garden hoses at the end to rinse off with and beer and food to enjoy, along with a band playing. I am now thouroughly sunburned on my face and back of my neck. I finished 66/130 and Liz was 88/130. Two of our co-workers that we talked into doing the race finished 50/130 and 109/130 (smoker who has now resolved to quit-maybe). We got a cool medal and a event towel to dry off with. Overall, it was a great way to spend a Sunday morning with my spouse and a couple of friends! We are planning on doing the race again next year and I will remember to bring the sunscreen!

---------------

Dave~ Yes , I remember Soylent Green, I and I still have to wonder if it will happen someday. The world is getting more crowed every day.

Vicky~ Glad that you are back running!

Margie~ thanks for posting our race results! Can you please add me to the 25lbs lost category? Yesterday I was 223 down from 248.

Let me know if it works.

Here's the link to the sandwich ready tuna salad. I've found it at wal-mart, kroger, and our local grocery store. http://www.starkist.com/template.asp?section=products/tuna-salad.asp

Bad school day. Largely due to a parent who came in angry and wasn't going to be happy with anything I said (including agreeing with her).

Our regional track meet is tomorrow, so I'll be coaching rather than in the classroom (which considering my stress level is good).

Got in 4 easy stress reducing miles on my own tonight in 37 minutes.

Mike where was that adventure race at? It sounds like fun, maybe I can get my group up for it.

Margie that's what a lot of places look like hear. I haven't been able to take my normal route to work for a week.

I just got back from visiting sally in Nashville. We spent an hour in bumper to bumper traffic yesterday evening to go to the mall so she could help me pick out sheets and we got there and the mall was closed. Power pole down and they had no power. A lot of roads are crowded because so many others are closed.

I had a nice pool workout as soon as I came back. I'm getting the stretching and icing done.

Hi Team!

Dave~ The Aztec Assault race was in Greenwood Illinois (McHenry County). That's northern Illinois, almost to the Wisconsin border. There is another adventure race that is similiar coming up, called the Warrior Dash. I hear it's a little more hardcore. The website shows people jumping over small fires! I can't remember the date offhand but I'll look it up.

AFM~ I took it easy today and only did a 5K. Ran it in 29:09 and walked it back. The weather is beautiful (if a little windy) and I just wanted to enjoy being outdoors.

Gotta go get my Lizzie from work, Mike :cool2:

Hi Team!

Dh had to work today so I went to the gym and ran 3 miles on TM. If I have to go to the gym, at least mine has TVs attached to the TM so I can watch TV. :rolleyes1 Haha, I made sure I was there before one of my shows started so I could watch it from start to finish. Very silly I know, but I figure if I must go to the gym, I may as well hit 2 birds with one stone!:rotfl:

Margie- I’m glad you’re feeling better! :goodvibes Have you thought about mixing those flavor packets in with your water to see if that helps?

Mike & Liz- Congrats!! Way to go on the great race!

Vicky- So far I think I’m leaning toward the 305? It’s only a little more than the 205 and the 405 is a lot more expensive. Where is the rebate through? Well according to their website, there will be a Mojito and a Bridgeport beer waiting for me at the end! Can't complain about that! :woohoo:

Dave- Are you seeing any improvements on your achilles with your new dedication to icing and stretching?

Jennifer- I hope you enjoyed your day out of the classroom.

Proud to be a part of Team Hakuna Matata with such a fine group of people. Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone. Happy training everyone! :dance3:

Nothing like a little sleep top clear the funk out of your brain. Tonight I'm going to catch up. I'm trying to get 8 hrs as often as possible.

Today is meeting my walk group for a hard 8 miles along the river, WITH OUT COATS!!!! It's finally a nice morning, last week it was 43 degrees at 7am, it's 55 this morning.

Lots of busy errands today, stretching is going to be an on and off task though. I need to get a mat for stretching on, Target usually has such things at a good price. Then marketing is in order since I'm out of food.

Regina it's to soon to tell how much the stretching is helping.

Mike I'd love to do one of those. I competed in a race while I was in the military called the peacekeeper challenge that was a Nato competition against the English SAS, the Army special forces and teams from several other allied nations. This was back in the early eighties at Nellis AFB Red flag training area. Sorta like an ECO challenge but no kayaking or biking.

Work has gotten really slow again, the first quarter of 2010 was very good now it's back to struggling again. It's all the stores not just us. I had been hoping we were at the end of our recession but I guess not yet.

Have a magical day y'all.

Hmmm... I made a second post yesterday and it seems to have disappeared! Maybe I forgot to submit it...:rolleyes1

Dave~ There is another series of adventure races called Warrior Dash(es) and can be found around the country. They seem a little more hardcore as the one advertised in my area has people jump over flames! You can check their site at www.warriordash.com. The one in my area is the same weekend that we will be returning from WDW and the Everest Challenge, so we will have to skip it. There is one in Georgia that looks interesting. Check the site it looks pretty cool.

watched as my friends finished their first half marathon (YAY )
and just signed up for the relay option of the Wine and Dine half.

I still don't run though - all walking for me!
I'm thinking I might actually sign up for the half in January this
year, or the Princess Half if not, so I'd love to join a team!’
Thanks!

Hi y'all.

My group race walk was 7 miles in 1:30 for a pace of 12:51 per mile but I did some race walk accelerations up the hills at a 8:43 pace. The big news is that all the serious stretching I've been doing I wasn't limping after. Right now I'm icing and eating a big plate of steamed fish and veggies. Grrrrrrrrr!

Mike we need to talk about it at the goofy weekend this January. I have a walker or two that might do it with me.

Good afternoon, Hakuna Matata!

It's a relatively nice day here! THe wind is only blowing about 30 mph!

Dave - I hope you are high and dry! Is Sally okay? Doesn't she live in Nashville?

Mike and Liz - Great job on the races. Sounds Yucky! :rotfl: Flame jumping?? Is that anything like claim Jumping?? (I bet not, guess my Colorado roots are showing!!)

Margie - Hi! You are doing a great job. My foot is doing better. No pics of the mules yet. The have developed an ugly habit of going the other way when they see us. That's NOT their best side.

Vicky - Yes, we were supposed to have a virtual race this month, but I am thinking that since it is officially race season, that maybe a high summer race would be better. Something like: The Streak through the sprinklers Hot August race! LOL

Kristy - You are an admirable person! :cloud9:

Regina - Are you a mojito fan?? I would trade the mojito for another beer, personally. I think it must be an acquired taste. - I have the 305. I can't wear the chest strap, which means I won't be paying the extra for that one, again. Good luck!

Jennifer - great job with the team! Hope you got some nice sun with that hot, hot, hot!

Gerry 4:30 am........:scared1: Sounds like yucky fun!

Hellooooooooo to everyone Else!

I just ordered P90X. Too much walking is still painful, but it is improving steadily, I thought I would do P90X and short walking distances until I can do more. Anyone else do it?

It was pretty fun but completely exhausting having the grandkids for four days. I was really happy to see their mommy come home! We planted the some of the garden, started more seeds, went fishing, and many other things. I caught the most fish...yea, well, I was the "lucky" fisherman who had to cast for GD and collect the fish in the bottom of the boat when everyone else lost them off the hook or dropped them. I guess really, I gathered the most fish!

Hi Team!

Good news all around today! The cancer doc says my bloodwork looks great and so far I'm cancer free, four months after surgery and still going...!:cool1::cool1::cool1:
I only had four hours sleep, but the news perked me up so I ran eight miles and set another new PR! 1:25:15 with a pace of 10:40. See what a little good news can do for the spirit!!:cloud9:

Dave~ I'll try and remember to bring some pictures with me in January. They haven't been put on the website yet. It would be great to race with you!

Margie~ Thanks!

Regina~ Thanks!

Kirstie~ How's the arm feeling?

Jennifer~ you still amaze me at how fast you run! I just try to keep chugging along.

Um, have we lost a few people with the new month's post?

Canadian Kim is doing that p90X, I think your both crazy. What ever happened to a good old Denise Austin exercise video?

You could do like I do and just walk and play in the water.

I got the tires aired up on the bicycle today and rode 3 miles down off the long hill I live on, then turned around and realized the bike won't change gears so I had to ride back up in granny gear. I thought I was going to die before I got back. I need to get it fixed, but to tired to mess with it now.

Hi everyone! I am the newest member of your team, if you'll have me. I was looking for a bio page to get to know everyone, but couldn't find it. If there is one, can someone direct me?

Just a little about me:
1. My name is Taryn, (like Karen with a T). I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare"time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away,so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun!

2. I am a disboards addict since winter of 09 when I started planning my first family trip. Bought DVC when we got home! Yeah, we love the place!

3. I joined the BL challenge on W.I.S.H at the end of February. I started the Couch to 5K program at the beginning of February, and posted on that thread and lurked the BL challenge until I got up the nerve to join. I have lost 40 pounds since January 18th, and feel like a new woman. I :lovestruc running now, and I really want to up my distance and speed. I decided to join a team to help me with my running accountability and questions, and to help me get ready for my goal of running the Princess half in 2012. I run the 5K distance 3 times a week, and last week ran 5 miles for the first time ever!!!!!

4. I haven't run a race yet. My 5K speed is around 34 minutes, I had some oral surgery and had to take a couple of weeks off. My PR was around 33 minutes. DD will finish up her gymnastics season in 2 weeks, she qualified for the state championships, so May 16 will be her last meet. Looking for a 5K to sign up for soon! I am running in the Special Olympics Torch Run the first of June with the police department. I think it is supposed to be mostly law enforcement, but some teachers always join. I am very nervous about this, as I love my 6am runs by myself.

So there's a little about me. I hope to be active and contribute, and I am excited to be a member of your team!

Hello Taryn and welcome. We don't have a Bio page, I suppose we should but no ones ever thought of it. But I'll give you a LITTLE information about me.

I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky, right now we are enjoying the flooding like Nashville. I was married for 24 years, I thought happily, but last year my wife met someone on line in a chat room and now I'm single again. I'm trying to recover from that and it's going pretty well. Right now the worst part is living in an apartment, but I plan on finding another house within the next six months.

I don't run I walk, race walk actually and I'm currently training for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. I have the state trials in Sept and if I place there I get a slot on the Ky team that will go to Houston next year for the nationals.

I have an achillies tendon that is giving me problems so I'm trying to be more regular with my stretching and icing. It's getting better since I started doing that.

I compete at the 1500m to 5K distance but also enjoy the half and full marathons. I try to stay in marathon shape all the time so if a road trip with friends come up I'm ready. Just did the Ky Derby half and have the USAF Marathon on the radar also.

I've been doing the Disney world races since 2006 and love eveerything about Disney. This last January's Goofy challenge was trhe hardest race I've ever done because of the intense cold. I didn't pack for the arctic conditions we experienced and it was pretty brutal. I swore I'd never do it again but I'm already sighed up for the 2011 Goofy.

Ben have any success reaching anyone that could be helpful

Jennifer- Nice you were able to get your run & workout

You are a Great Coach and the girls on your Track Team will

Kim- Goodness-what’s happened to you? :confused3

Mary- Whew, that make me feel better!
Walking 3-miles with bags of groceries.
I seriously do not think I would make it.
Maybe if it fit into one of those thin sports backpacks-
Thinking if I left my wagon outside
the store it would not be there when I returned.

Are you and/or Liz in any of the shots?

Regina- I think keeping both mind and body busy
at the same time is Way Gooder!

lemon. I am not good with flavored drinks-especially sweet ones.
I still have not been able to drink a cup of coffee-

I'm still here as well. Just really busy at work & home.

Taryn, Welcome to the team!

Mike, I started running in '06 with Disney full in '07 as my first. Next Sunday will be my 5th full. I've done many races of various lengths & will be trying my first duathalon this summer. Your last race sounded like fun & very interesting.

Vicky, How are you feeling after the weekend run?

Margie, Enjoy the yard work. You should put the little guys to work & get them to help you out.

Rain last night so I was at the gym for spin class. Just getting in the last few workouts before the 16th.

Got to run. Major work projects due Fri. & Mon.

Good morning Margie. I declared war on my achillies problem and so far I think I'm winning. I did a hard 7 miles yesterday and wasn't limping after. I'm stretching several times a day, icing and using advil.

Today is a rest day, except for going to work. But I went to the Gym and soaked and stretched in the hot whirlpool. Then had a big breakfast. Once I get the achillies under control I'm going to increase my miles and get those last 20 lbs of extra fluff off me.

Good morning Team!

WELCOME, Taryn! - Congrats on the weight loss. You have done very well!! Now, we just have to find a race that will fit into that busy schedule of yours!!!

Hmmmm - A bio page...I was thinking that everyone might send me a brief bio in a private message and I can include that in the opening page each month. That way it's always on top and everyone can refer back to it! Whatcha think?

Sue - great to see you. You are our dynamo!

Kim - dahling, are you too busy shopping for cowgirl boots to visit with us??

Dave - Howdy! I don't think I am crazy for trying P90X. I think it may be quite sane, actually! :rotfl: I am NOT driving 50 + miles to a gym and pay gym membership. I am NOT going to use the public pool that's 25 miles away and only open in the summer with 1000000's of kids in it. So with limited options I am going to try this. I am thinking if I can get my entire body strong, new world's will open up to me! LOL

Mike - What great news from the doctor's. I would be a basket case, I suspect, just thinking about the test! Keep up the good work! Great job on the weight loss as well! You are da man!

Hope - Hey girl! Good luck with the job. It is difficult to go up against with whom you are close! May the best woman win! Be sure and tell your future mother-in-law to come back here and post!!!

Robert - Still making those races happen? How's the weight loss going?? Are you racing at all?

Regina - How's it going?

Scott and Lynn - Come back! Come Back!!! We miss you!!

Jack? Jack?? Oh, Captain Jack?? Where are you??

Lorelai - You need to come back too!

Gerry - What kind of pedometer do you use? AND what kind of step do you do on an average day? My pedometer is an Omron that works in any position.

Jennifer - You are an amazing coach and you have done a super job for your first year. Great on you for finding time for yourself. Trust me, that gets harder and harder as you grow older.

Denise - Where are you?????

figment82 - Where are you???

Shannon??

Mary what are you up to0?

About me: I am a married, 53 yo grandmother. We live in the middle of nowhere in the Texas panhandle, far from everything! I walk races and enjoy it. I work at home doing the accounting and billing and other office jobs for our business.

See y'all! Connie

Margie Disney will see mor of my Dh than I will for the next two weekends. rotfl
I am volunteering for the EE, I will be somewhere on the course, but I don't do annywhere near as much as hubby.

We have had no luck with my chair, we are still writing up all the details of emails, calls etc. I'm hoping once that is done and sent to the team head office things might start getting done.

We are hing to cut the grass every week now, our temp. is around 100 every day..... it.

Mike That is fantastic news. :cheer2: :woohoo:

I think we are going for a bassett waddle tonight down down, well the other dogs waddle and Tinkerbell walks normal speed, we have to stop and wait for everyone to catch up.
There are a few hounds that live here and its nice to get them together once in a while.

Hello team! Not much to report from me lately - I can't believe it's Thursday and another weekend is here already! I have a funny twitch in my right eye that I can't seem to get to go away. I think it's from stress and/or lack of sleep. I don't think anyone else notices but it's just annoying.

Kirstie - Sorry to hear about your continuining chair troubles :( I wish they'd just make things right and fix it already! The bassett waddle sounds fun! How's your arm doing?

Mike - That's fantastic news from your Dr.! Great time on your 8 miler too! Can't wait to see what kind of times you get on a 1/2!

Connie - Hmm... I'm not sure what our neighbours would say about that. Of course that would be one motivator to make me run faster!!

Sue - Running last weekend was fantastic! I can't say my ankle is back to 100% but I still have a couple of weeks before training for Midsummer Night's starts up. I'm going to give that 30K a try and hopefully this time things will go better.

Taryn - :welcome: Congrats on your weight loss!!

Margie - How's the yard work? Do you have any landscaping or gardening projects planned?

Regina - I have a 405. My dad got it for me as a birthday present when I first started running. I don't have any experience with the 305 - might want to ask Lynn and Scott. I think they have a couple different models. The rebate with the Garmin seems to come and go ... it was around last summer and fall for a little while and then I remember getting an email about it a couple of months ago.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning guys.

I'm determined to get my sleep as much as possible so I forced myself to stay in bed till 5:30, even though I was wide awake at 4am. The research says that people who get 6 to 9 hrs live longer than people who don't. I also know that healing only happens when you are asleep so that's a big part of my attack on this achillies tendonitis.

I'm headed off to walk, not sure how far or how I'll train yet. I'll know when I get there.

Margie how is your Sarah doing?

Happy Friday team! Hope everyone is ready for the weekend! What is everyone doing for Mother's Day on Sunday? I'm taking my mom and family out for dinner. I wanted to do brunch but I think I'm too late to make reservations and most places will probably be mobbed.

Worked out last night with my PT - we did lunges with a medicine ball for a warmup and focused on deadlifting. My regular deadlifting sets are now at 140 lbs (3 reps, 6-7 sets). At the end, my PT made me retry my PB which was 145 lbs. Got that up no problem :) Then he upped the weight to 150 lbs and that was tougher but I still got it up. So my new PB is 150 lbs!! But he thinks it could have been 155 lbs!

Margie - I got your email and am working on a reply. It's a little tricky at work because we can't access outside email through our network.

Jennifer - I'm glad to hear that your track team is doing so well! Are you going to encourage the girls to keep up with their training while they're on break in the summer?

Dave - I need more sleep too! My problem is going to sleep at an appropriate time. Never had a problem sleeping in :)

Regina - DF got the wedding invite in the mail yesterday and my name was on it. So I guess it's just a matter of whether we're going or not - it's in Boston so there's the travel time + hotel. I figured the ex wouldn't want to put my name on it because she was trying to keep things small and we didn't exactly hit it off last time we met.

Anyway time to get back to work! Have a great day everyone!

Good morning, Team!

Vicky - I thought that would just be a fun name. Of course, if we made it "The streak through the Hot August NITE 5K" you wouldn't have so much to worry about! :rotfl: At your age and shape, people would admire you! At my age, I worry about people seeing me and then going :scared1: or ! -- Oh Vicky, what load off your shoulders. I am so glad that the ex took the high road, makes getting along so much easier!

Gerry - My pedometer is really great. It was about $29, but you can drop it in a pocket or purse, hang it around your neck, or clip it to your pants or shirt. It tells you all your steps and breaks out your "moderate" steps which amounts to jogging or aerobic AND it counts the calorie burn and the time. You never have to reset it, it resets by itself at midnight! It's a great tool.

Margie and Taryn - Check out the bios on the front page!

Dave - Good luck with your sleep! I seem to get 8 hours no matter what!

Kristy - I think I would really enjoy seeing a Basset Waddle! :rotfl: Here's to you and Tinkerbell!

Jennifer - great job on the run! I hope you enjoyed the dinner!

Yesterday was Tinkerbell's b'day, so we went in to the MK last night and she got to ride the tea cups and dumbo. We got her a b'day button and we let her meet the Princess and Tinkerbell!!! (She does not always get to see them when my Dd does) so she was very happy.

My cast is on order, it will be on next week, and it will be my fav color......purple.

Enjoy the weekend eveeyone. :wave2:

Worked out last night with my PT - we did lunges with a medicine ball for a warmup and focused on dead lifting. My regular dead lifting sets are now at 140 lbs (3 reps, 6-7 sets). At the end, my PT made me retry my PB which was 145 lbs. Got that up no problem Then he upped the weight to 150 lbs and that was tougher but I still got it up. So my new PB is 150 lbs!! But he thinks it could have been 155 lbs!

Margie, Robert my race walking student here was going to do the regional Tenn trials to get a chance to go to state trials for the chance to qualify for the senior Olympics. Because of the flooding in Nashville his region got a buy on regional qualifying and will get to go to state. Did that make sense? I don't have regional trials here just state, as we have a lot fewer people in Kentucky who do anything physical.

Sally is doing good. Still wild as a deer but doing good. She is sitting here next ot me as I write this and says hi to everyone.

We walked 3 miles in the mall together and got breakfast at Shoney's before the mothers day crowd hit. By the time we were leaving it was packed.

Hey all!

I had a crazy Mother's Day at work. Probably did a half marathon running around my little department. Lugged a bunch of fish, shrimp, and lobster. Sooooo tired now.

I celebrated MD yesterday for the most part. Saw Nick's momma and grandma and talked to my grandma on the phone (she's a few states away). Sent flowers and sappy cards to the previously mentioned mommas.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TEAM!

Ran my LIVE UNITED 5k yesterday and finished 49/178. There was one killer hill which we had to do twice as they lapped us around. I set a new post cancer PR at 28:28 with a pace of 9:11. The race was well organized and alot of fun, at the beginning a bugler blew a tune for all the runners to line up at the start (like at the Kentucky Derby).

Margie~ I couldn't help you find the pictures as I haven't had time enough to check them all out. It's been another busy week! :upsidedow

Dave~ My buddy talked me into signing up for the Warrior Dash on Sunday June 20th with a wave start time of 1:30 pm. It's in Joliet, IL if you want to join us? It should be a crazy good time!

Kirsty~ Purple cast? Are you going to get it signed by all the WDW characters?

Robert~ I'm going to catch up to you in weight loss!

Jack~ let us know how you did in your race!

AFM~ I have the night off, so we might chill and watch a movie...popcorn::

Good Evening Team! Happy Mother's Day!

Welcome Taryn!

Brief Bio:Lynn (of Lynn and Scott), 59 years old, retired (although I have been working for the census since November – until next week – I have only one week left :cheer2:– because of that I have not been posting much, but when I have my life back, I should be posting more regularly – that is after we get back from our month long trip to Europe. We are both Disneyholics – we have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but since knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

Connie – I was also wondering about the virtual race that I had on my calendar for last weekend. If we make it in August – here it will have to be a streak thru the night or very early morning – it is too hot to walk or run at other times during August!

Margie – glad to hear you are doing better!

Mike – that sounded like a fun race! Congrats on still being cancer free!

Dave – hope you have survived the flooding!

Robert – Happy Belated Birthday!

I am over the cold, but had gum surgery on Thursday that put me back a few days, I felt fine on the second day, but they stressed not to do activity for “a few days”, so I did not.

Have a great week all!

Hi Lynn welcome back we missed you princess.

Mike that's a little far for me since I have to work that weekend. We will cross paths soon though, at Disney if not before.

My battle with the achillies continues, I've been relentless with the stretching and icing. Now a good nights sleep should have me ready for my 400m repeats in the morning.

I should probably get serious about getting in more miles after this achillies monster is beaten. I'm getting about 20 quality miles a week right now. I should also get serious about dropping a few pounds of fluff to.

Good morning y'all.

There is some evil crap going on all around us, gas prices are going up again, going over $3.00 a gallon. The gulf coast is going to be unfit to swim in for not only us but the fish and other critters that are living there. The rain has left the Tenn and Ky in a state of disaster and the threat of earth quakes is ever present for all of us.

But ya know, what all that is out of our hands to fix and make better. But what is in our hands to make better is our own health and fitness. We alone control the miles we do and what we stick in our mouths. We decide how much sleep we are going to get, yes sometimes we have to give up something to get that 6 to 8 hours but it's up to us.

So having said all that I'm going to exercise my options and go meet another race walker and do the fastest 400m repeats that I've ever done.

Grrrrrrrrr!!

Good morning Team!!!

Lynn - Good to see you back! A month long cruise sounds....tooo long! I would love two, two week cruises though! I hope you have a wonderful time, marvelous weather and the absolute best time in the world! Have a special dessert for me! -- Things weren't going my way for the month of March and April, so getting a virtual race together for the first of May was just more than I could handle. Plus, the boards seem to have slowed down some with all the regular season races. That's why I though August would be good!

Mike - You da King! Racing with you would be an exercise in dust eating for me...or mud, as the case may be!

Dave - So many of your posts and thoughts seem to be centered on control. I have no control issues. I was lucky enough when I was born to instinctively understand that the only thing in life I can control is myself and I don't have a lot of luck with THAT!!! :lmao: Still waiting on the P90X. I will let you know if it kills me!

Kristie - if the cast fits, wear it! :rotfl: I hope your healing process is fast and recovery complete! Go with our best wishes!

Hope - Hmmmmmm, sounds tasty, but I feel certain you mostly got the stinky part of all that ocean goodness!

Yes Connie, I need to remind myself often. I went through such a long period there where it seemed as though everything was spinning out of control. Now I'm getting used to being in the driver's seat instead of being stuffed in the trunk.

Hard workout and not limping after, life is good. 5 X 200m repeats with fastest 58 sec. That would be walking at a sub 8 min mile.

Margie, Ky has just the state games and if you medal: gold, silver or bronze you get to represent your state at the National Senior Olympics. I took bronze in 2006 and did the Olympics in 2007. I'm going medal again in Sept and go to Houston in June 2011 for another Olympics. Last time I trained to arrive at the start healthy, this time I'm going to take a shot at a medal. It will not be easy, but you know what a dreamer I am. If enough of the good walkers have a bad day I might slip in there.

I'm having a frozen dinner and popcorn for desert but I'm craving BBQ Chicken Pizza. I guess I'll take Sally on Friday after I meet Dan in Nashville for a training walk on the Nashville hills.

We have the owner of a junk yard and a hair dresser running for congress here in Ky. I guess they can't do any worse than the current ones are doing.

Good morning Team!

It's a much better day, after all the wind yesterday! I totally understand "Black Blizzards" this morning. We had 60+ mph winds, and in Pampa, they caused a huge dirt cloud. Farmers are beginning to prep their soil for corn, but too much of it blew away yesterday. I had to drive through a dust/sand cloud so thick, I couldn't see, I had a turn coming up and I had to watch the white line to find it!

Jennifer - I am so sorry you have been sick. I hope there are no ill effects!

Margie - Is Hagen better today? Grocery shopping 50 miles away is always an adventure. Thank goodness for ice chests!

Mike - You would leave me in the dust! I am not a talented walker, nor am I quick. I have endurance only because I have worked hard on that! So, you would leave me in the dust and mud! :rotfl: I am not sure that I even have any talents!

Dave - You don't need other people to mess up to medal! You just need to do your BEST race. Then you will be a winner! -- I am with Margie on that pizza thing! But the politicians sound great! Hi everyone! Just a quick fly-by for me today... Got in a run this morning and forgot that I need a little extra time to eat and drink something before heading out. Did a quick 2 miler which was nice.

Worked out with my PT last night - did some weights, core exercises and hip opening exercises. Got a nice complement at the end of the session last night. My PT commented that my workout buddy was making progress but said he'd be doing even better once he was able to get up to the same level as me :) Thought that was nice! Then I had another trainer come by who said he noticed how much weight I had lost. Yay!

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I’ve been MIA the last week or so. Work has been really busy and I’ve been feeling :sick:since Saturday. So lame! Actually, as I type this I am home sick….I am not sure what’s going on…I have a headache and feel sick to my stomach. :guilty: I didn’t even try to run on Sunday because I wasn’t feeling well. Last night I tried to go to the gym for my 3 mile run and I made it a mile before I had to stop and walk…then I made it another half mile walking before I finally called it quits because I felt so sick. I am really hoping whatever it is goes away soon. I have to be better by my first race or I don’t know what I will do!!! :scared:

On a positive note, I have decided to have lasik surgery and correct my eyes so I do not have to wear glasses. My surgery is scheduled for 5/21 (next Thursday) so I am excited and nervous about that. I am sure hoping I feel better by then!

Also, I finally made it to our local running store to get fitted for running shoes! They fit great and I am really liking them!:yay: Now that I have been fitted, it’s nice to know what I thought was correct in my assessment- that I have high arches and under pronate. :yay:

Connie- Yes I like mojitos. I’m hanging in there! Just really hoping I’m feeling better soon. Eventually I will PM you a bio…

Taryn- :welcome:to the team!!!

Hope- Did you hear if you got the job? Applying for jobs is always stressful. I think it is one of my least favorite things to do.

Vicky- Thanks! I’ll have to keep my eyes open on the garmin models. It may be a little while before I get one. I’m glad you were on the invite! If you hadn’t been on the invite, I would have guessed it was more about not hitting it off than about keeping it small. One extra person would not make that big of a difference. So when will you guys decide if you are going?

Margie- I’m so glad your stomach is feeling better. What else have you been able to eat/drink now that you’re feeling better?

Kirstie- How’s your cast? Purple is a great color!!

Gerry- Did your kids say they liked the muddy buddy after? Or were they more concerned with getting clean?

I have several songs I always listen to while I’m running. I would say my favorites right now are probably “Imma Be” by Black Eyed Peas, “High Road” by Fort Minor, “4 Minutes” by Madonna, and “Supermassive Black Hole” by Muse.

That’s it for me. If I’ve missed any posts, I apologize.

No, I didn't get the job, my friend did so now she'll be switching stores :sad1:

So, I'm now trying for her position! So hopefully I'll get that one. I'm not too upset, I knew she had experience on me.

I tossed ice for a half hour today, moved a bunch of shrimp around, so I'm getting my cross training in ;)

Hi Team,

Just another quick post today. I did eight miles in 1:25:17. I missed a PR by 2 seconds. 1:25 seems to be my time for eight! Just for kicks, I weighed myself before and after my run and lost 3 pounds. The dried salt from my perspiration was all over my face.

Margie~ My gym workouts are on a TM. Borinngggg....

Regina~ Good luck with your eye surgery! It makes such a difference. Lasik wouldn't work for me, my vision was too poor. Instead, I had a newer surgery that implanted lenses into my eyes a couple of years ago. My vision is now 20/15 !

Train on everyone! - Mike :cool2:

Have you been to a doctor?
It’s been several years since you injured it way back when you were still running.

Good morning EVERYONE!!!

Margie - Poor Hagen! I hope things clear up SOON! That's awful. -- No mule pics yet. Waiting on the other two mules! They will be here in the next couple of weeks. They are coming from Kentucky. -- Mojitos: a nasty tasting drink made with Mint and other yucky things! No offense to the lovers of the Mo! :lmao:

Gerry - Adorable munchkins, even with the mud! Your daughter doesn't look too happy with that mud bath. Maybe you should point out that people spend $$$$ for mudbaths for the beauty of their skin! :rotfl: Enjoy these days, they slip by so quickly...but you have heard that, I'm sure.

Mike - There are some great electorlyte products out there. There are drinks, gels, strips, and bars. You probably should consider them. Salt is very important to the proper functioning of our bodies. It keeps the nerves, synapsising and the heart pumping!

Dave - What happened to your achilles this time? You didn't fall off a curb again, did you?

Sue - I was wondering about those tris too! Are you going to try them? You are my hero!

Jennifer - How about you? Are you trying tris, now that you are getting well?

Regina - Glad to see your face this morning! Hope you feel better soon! Will keep you in my prayers next Thursday!

Come back: Dave, Denise, Eva, figment82, Jack,Kim, Kirstie, Lorelei528, Mary, Pam, Robert, Scott & Lynn, Shannan, and Vicky- :grouphug:

AFM - Serious storms last night. We were on the backside and got just a little hail and lots of rain, but cities and towns just east of us got tornadoes. Not a pleasant way to spend an evening. -- Mowed the lawn, yesterday. It takes about two hours to mow everything. Didn't quite get it all, but there's only 15 - 30 minutes of mowing left...but now the grass is too wet. May be a hot and muggy day.

See y'all - Connie

Good morning guys.

Connie my achillies has been a long time problem. I have cronic tight calves so when I get lazy about the stretching I have problems that take a long while to fix.

Today was pool and wicked good stretching. Tomorrow I'm doing the hills in Nashville so resting the walking muscles today.

Margie you don't need any more sickos in the house. Must be the water up there in the far north.

Ok off to nap.

Good Morning Team!

Work is crazy busy so another quick post.

Picked up the bike on Tues. & will do a short ride on Sat. I think DH is more excited than I am.

We don't train together except for spin class & some times weights. He is an outstanding rider & will leave me in the dust.

Connie, I'm giving a duathlon a try in July. I'm not ready for a tri.
Stay dry & don't get blown away. I'm also waiting for pics.

Margie, Hope it's nothing serious & Hagen will be feeling better soon.

Mike, Nice time on the 8 miler

Regina, Feel better. I'm a 305 user. Some of the best money I've spent. Love it.

Taking tonight off with a short run Fri. Race pickup is Sat.

Have a great day. Happy training..........Sue

Good morning team! I'm already looking forward to the weekend :) Just a quick post before I get back to work...

Margie - Hope Hagen is feeling better  Is this leftover from the stomach bug that was going around a couple of weeks ago? I haven't forgotten about your email but it's hard to type on the phone (no outside email at work :( )

Connie - Stay safe! I hope the tornadoes stay far away from your area. Did your copy of PX90 arrive? How are you liking it? You and Kim are going to be super buff!

Sue - Looks like sunny weather for this weekend! Good luck on Sunday!!

Mike - You keep getting speedier all the time! The zoo run sounds like fun! Are you going to get dressed up for it?

Dave - Have fun in Nashville this weekend! Say hi to Sally for us! And there's nothing wrong with our water... ;)

Regina - Hope you're feeling better today! No decisions yet on the wedding. I'm okay either way but always love going on a road trip! My PT had Lasik done last year and loves it. I think his only complaint was dry eyes for a couple of months but other than that, he loves it.

Jennifer - Glad to hear you're feeling better! Your post reminds me that I wanted to find some small races for the summer.

Gerry - Thanks for the sharing your pics with us! The Muddy Buddy sounds fun :)

AFM - Not much planned for this weekend. Will try making oatmeal bread and some baked sweet potato chips. I bought a bag of what I thought was sweet potato chips yesterday. I get home look a little more closely at the ingredients and see that they're sweet potato flavoured corn chips. Grrr!! And I missed that they had sugar in them - they were made with evaporated cane juice. So now I'm going to try and make my own :) I've got training tonight and will check out a new gym in my neighbourhood on Saturday morning. I heard they don't put you on a contract so that would work out for me.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky dear why would one want sweet potato chips? Is that a better alternative to regular potato chips?

Oh and we have something wrong with our water in the Gulf Of Mexico, it's getting full of oil from that leaking oil well. This has the potential to be the worst man made disaster ever. Oil is leaking from a hole we ripped into the earth and we have no idea how to fix it. Where is Bruce Willis and the Armageddon team when you need um.

I'm going to sleep in tomorrow. I'm training on the nashville hills in the afternoon so I can skip my 5am adventures tomorrow.

Hey Everyone,

I finally made it through a run today!:woohoo: 4 miles on the TM and I’m feeling ok.

Hope- That’s a bummer you didn’t get the job. :sad2: Good luck getting your friend’s job instead!! WTG on the 2 miles!

Mike- Thanks! DH insisted on having lasik 2.5 years ago and his eyesight was worse than mine. I think the fact that I’m now running and don’t want to worry about glasses or contacts is what finally pushed me over the edge to get it done. How did the procedure go with your implants? Is it a long procedure? What’s it called? Great job on your 8 mile runs!!:cheer2: Good luck on Saturday!!! :cheer2:

Sue-:cheer2: Good luck in your marathon on Sunday!!!:cheer2: Thanks!

Margie- Thanks! I am feeling a little better today…still not 100%, but definitely better than I was yesterday. How did the Dr. call go regarding Hagen? Do they know what’s going on yet?

Connie- Thanks!! I’m glad the tornadoes missed you! Why did it take so long for your P90X to arrive?

Vicky- Thanks! Yes I’ve heard that can be a side effect. Apparently if it gets really bad they have plugs they can insert to assist in creating tears. So weird! I never even knew that stuff existed… I really hope I don't need those! I don’t blame you- I’m always up for a road trip as well...and any excuse to travel!! Let us know how your sweet potato chips turn out. Sounds yummy.

Does anyone use any gel or other items while running/walking? If so, what do you use and how do you like it?

Also, has anyone on our team ever organized and executed a race?

Happy Friday Team!

Hi Team,

Thanks for the advice on the electrolytes, I've been getting into protein bars and bought my first gel the other day. Gatorade G2 is a staple in our fridge. Muscle Milk after a hard run.

Regina~ I had Intra Ocular Lenses put in my eyes (IOC's for short). Otherwise known as implantable contact lenses. The procedure was done in a few hours and I was in a twilight sleep. It is very similar to cataract surgery except that my original lenses are left intact. The bonus over Lasik is that the lenses can be removed or changed in an emergency or accident that affects or changes my eyes, and Lasik can only be tweaked so much after the original surgery. The cost was a little higher.

Margie~ my bib number is 907 for my zoo run, maybe they will let a tiger out to motivate people.... Okay, slowest one gets eaten! I hope Hagen is better soon!

Sue~ Good luck in your race!! May your feet feel light and the wind be at your back! :cheer2:

Vicky~ No, no costumes for this one. I did wear Tiger ears and a tail, while Liz had bunny attire on during an Everest Challenge in 2008. Everything fell off on the obstacles!

AFM~Slept some today and did the bills and ran some errands. Looking forward to getting some ZZZZ's tonight (off of work) and heading out early for the race tomorrow! Sorry, Dave no Panda's at this zoo.

My workout this morning was just pool and stretching, tomorrow I'll start back walking. Some days my achillies feels pretty good and other days its still a pain. But hey i'm doing my stretching, icing and advil, I will beat this.

The US racewalking team is in Mexico for the world cup. I'll let you know how they do. If anyone would like to have them as friends on facebook let me know. It's interesting that two of our best are Ray Sharp wo is 50 and John Matthews who is 53. These guys walk sub 7 min miles for 50K that's 31 miles.

Margie I hope your grandbaby is better real soon. And Sarah to.

Cypress "STREAK" 5k Road Race, 1st annual clothing-optional run to be held at Cypress Cove Nudist Resort, in Kissimmee, FL. Participants can wear as little or much as they wish, though appropriate foot protection is suggested. We are encouraging runners and spectators to bring a change of clothes with them, that way they can wear clothes to donate to Haiti earthquake victims at the starting line and STREAK down the race course. :) More details and event details to come....

Good Morning, Team! :wave2:

Cloudy & Showers again today – high of 65°

I have been Off Line since Saturday afternoon due to problems with my Internet connections.

Connie- Thanks! Hope you are feeling better today.
That is a lot of non-stop traveling hours! :scared1:

Dave-checked out the link you sent-
Very Imprssive Fast Race Walkers...I am just not that intense.
I like to walk for fun! :goodvibes

Hope- Hope you have a Great Interview! :goodvibes

Jennifer- Outstanding…new boyfriend and he is a runner!
Finding someone to share your love of running makes him extra special.
It's not the Gatorade - it being that thoughtful that is so nice.

Lynn- Snow! :scared1:
You guys must live on top of a mountain.
We will just get used to you being back with us and zip off you
guys go again! :grouphug:

Mike- I apologize for the incorrect time posted! :sad1:
I am sorry – not sure what happened, but I get the time posted from the official http://www.ltfrunwild.com/page/show/155037-illinois
I did correct and add your comments to the post.

Regina- :upsidedow

Sue- Congratulations!
WTG 4:25 is an awesome Full Marathon Time!
And a little  from DH was way worth more than a few minutes!

Vicky- How is your ankle? :flower3:

My Little Hagen is a bit better-
PTL it looks like the enema, daily laxative, and diet will eventually
take care of the problems. The Pediatrician has been wonderful!
He still has problems, but not as much pain, he is smiling,
on the move again, and was so much happier yesterday.

Enjoy all the moments today might bring!

Good morning team! Sorry I've been MIA - I've been posting over on the weight loss thread but just generally busy with work and trying to get outside more.

Sue - Congrats on your marathon! What a fantastic time! I was thinking about you and a few other runners on Sunday morning! Are you going for the free DQ at Dundas Square today? It's too far of a walk now that my offices have moved closer to the Rogers Center (that still such a weird name).

Margie - I'm so glad to hear that Hagen is doing better! Tough situation for the little guy :( Give him a big hug for all of us! I'm up 0.7 lbs last week - I need more vegetarian meals! Training for my 30K starts this weekend so hopefully I can keep off everything that's been lost and not gain it back. What happend to your Internet?

Jennifer - Glad to hear the running date went well! That sounds like such a fun idea and definitely different than a typical dinner and movie!

Hope - Good luck on your job interview! Is it for the same company but different department? Keep us posted!

Dave - Any plans with Sally today? Wish her a happy birthday and send her our best! Hope she has a great day!!

Mike - Mmmm... Olive Garden! They packed up and moved out of Canada more than 10 years ago. We still go whenever we take trips to the US :) Did you like Iron Man 2? I thought Mickey Rourke's character was a little creepy - maybe he played him a little too well. Never followed the comic book though so I didn't know much about it going in.

Gerry - I don't know if I could do that race - I'd have to make sure I didn't know anyone there  And if I did, I'd be so  Well I guess that's one way to improve my 5K time!!

Lynn - And just as you're back with us - you're off again! Hope you and Scott have a blast in Europe! Keep posting with pics if you can during your trip!

Regina - Hope you're feeling better!

Connie - See your idea for the streaking group run wasn't too far off ;) How are things going with you?

AFM - I had a great workout last night with my PT - lots of metabolic exercises, a little bit of throwing a medicine ball around and free weights. I can't remember how we started talking about body weight but my WO partner wanted to know how much I weigh now. Long story short ... before I had a chance to answer, he says "What are you? 140?" Umm, no (I'm just over 134 lbs) ... but at least subtract 10 lbs from your guess so that I can feel better. Men!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Gerry~ We have to make plans to meet up at Everest Challenge and say hello! Are you running the STREAK?

Yeah, sounds great

I teamed with my DS 10

Not running the Streak--but surely stands out in a calendar of possible 5k's around central FLA. Be funny though?

Good Morning Team!

Mike - no I was definately NOT the lady dancing up front at Off Kilter:lmao:

So, tomorrow I have my next job interview. Hope I can nail it. But, my current manager and I have a Plan B in place already if I don't. Maybe that'll give me the confidence I need going in.

Good Luck on your interview!

Margie - glad to hear Hagen is doing better! No we do not live on top of a mountain - we live in the plains - they just happen to be HIGH plains in Wyoming!

Yesterday was beautiful - today is foggy and is supposed to rain later. Now the wind has kicked up again!

Have a great day all!

Evening Team!

Margie~ I'm so happy to hear that Hagen is doing better! Give him a hug from our family! No big deal about posting the wrong time, maybe you got the gun time instead of the chip time? :confused3

Hope~ Good luck in your interview! It sounds like your boss is on your side, which always helps! :cheer2:

Vicky~ We liked Iron Man 2, but I felt it was a little chaotic as the story line went. It really set up for the future Avengers movie. At the very end after the credits, they found THOR's hammer in New Mexico. I pumped for more...

Regina~ How are you feeling? Ready for your race?

Dave & Sally~ I hope that you can find the time for a fun birthday celebration! :bday::bday:

AFM~ I set another new PR for 8 miles! 1:20:58 I'm either getting more fit or my watch is running slow. My average heart rate was only 81% which is the lowest it has been on a long run. Pace was 10:06, my old PR was 1:25:15 with a pace of 10:40. 25 Days until EVEREST!!!:woohoo:

Train on!! Mike :cool2:

I had my interview, no idea if it went well. It felt like the last one, so we'll see.

It is for the same company and same grocery store, I just would be going from seafood to deli. My current department manager loves me, thinks I'm a great asset and knows exactly why I'm doing what I am. He thinks it's a great career move for me to get the necessary experience to go on to bigger and better things.

Nick and I had a breakfast date after the interview. We had an IHOP open up recently. I might as well say it, "Hello, my name is Hope and I'm addicted to pancakes." So I had a small stack of glorious buttermilk sweetness. Then I played with fabric and did laundry. I worked on a quilt for someone near and dear to me, so someone else will get a fabric hug in a little while.

Big excitement, huh? popcorn::

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Hi everyone!

Went to the gym and ran 4 miles today. It was a great run today. Pace was slow bc I always go slow on TM and am not fast by any means, but it was a comfortable fun run. 5 days until my first race and 2 days until my lasik surgery! :cloud9: Busy week for me!

Margie- Thanks for the info on Robert. I am taking on a project at work that will occur in November and I would like to organize a 5K or something like that for it but I don’t know the first thing about organizing and executing a race! How do you like gu? It’s great to hear Hagen is doing better and all that stuff is helping! :woohoo:

Jennifer- How long have you been running and how long have you been a track coach? Did you meet the new boyfriend running? A running date is a great idea!

Mike- Sounds kinda scary to me because I am nervous about a 10 min surgery, let alone a 3 hour one! It’s amazing what doctors can do these days. Awesome time on your zoo 5K & new PR on your last run! You just keep getting better! WTG!! :cheer2: Tell Liz awesome job and congrats as well! :cheer2:Running the whole time is a great accomplishment! I’m feeling better. Not sure if I’m ready for the race or not. I had a rough run on Sun and missed my Sat run last week b/c I had to drive with DH to Utah (& back all in one day). Today was a great run, so we’ll see how it goes! My only goal at this point is to finish and I am 99.7% sure I can do that! I figure I can crawl across the finish line if I must, but I will finish!

Connie- That does sound like an interesting food choice. Is your P90X in yet?!?! What was your quick trip to Denver for?

Sue- Congrats on your marathon! Great job!:cheer2:

Lynn- Thanks! Nice to see you back, even if only for a brief moment. Is the weather usually that awful in WY in May??

Hope- I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get that job. Good luck! What is your plan B if plan A doesn’t pan out? What a wonderful DF!! So sweet to take you on a breakfast date after your interview. Definitely sounds like a Prince Charming to me. :upsidedow

Vicky- Thanks! I am feeling better. Can’t believe your WO partner! Doesn’t he know he should shoot under what he actually thinks it may be just to be on the safe side?!

Well that's it for me. Have a wonderful hump day everyone.

Good morning guys.

Lynn it's good to see you back. I saw the picture of the tornado on Scott's facebook page, WOW! Glad you are back to retired and can keep us up to date on your adventures again.

Margie, glad you little prince is doing better. About the walkers, I don't know if I can ever get to that level but it's cool that we had a 51 and a 53 year old on the USA team.

Mike you are really moving with your training, I think you will be giving our Jennifer a run for it soon.

Vicky, yes we had a wonderful time last night. I think I'm going to keep her.

I'm meeting my walk group for a good 10K this morning. It's not doing the threatened rain so it will be a cool and plkeasent morning. 55 degrees right now.

I saw on facebook that Bryan Weldon who used to be the captain on the tripple Ds is remarried.:cloud9:

Everyone have a super day.

Good Morning Team!

Yes, we do have terrible weather in Wy in May - springtime in the Rockies (even though we are a bit distanced from the Rockies now)!

The tornado warning was a surprise, but as I was stuck in the basement, I at least made good use of the time, and rode the bike for the 45 min I was stuck down there and watched the local news to see what was happening outside.

At this point, I am keeping to my normal exercise routine, but when we get back from vacation, I will have to ramp up the training for the DL race over Labor Day.

Mike - you are amazing, it seems we see a new PR every time you post! Way to go!!!

Have a great day all, it looks like the sun is trying to peek out, so I will get the dogs for their walk before it starts pouring again!

Margie I'm glad we have you to keep us all updated. My next race I think will be memorial day, a 3K on a hilly kitty litter trail.

Mike are you going do do any long races in the near future? My next long one on the radar right now is the USAF Half marathon in Sept.

I didn't do anything this morning except good stretching in the hot tub. I'm waiting for the cable person to fix my stuff.

Hello Team!

A beautiful day here in Nortern Illinois! It's supposed to be even nicer tomorrow! I ran eight miles today and I signed up for a 5k in Sycamore IL on Saturday morning. The race starts out on an auto race track and heads out on some trails. Rain is possible though! Liz ran with a group from our gym and did five miles for the first time!

Dave~ My long race of the summer will be the Soldier Field 10 miler on next Saturday (29th) and it will be my longest yet! I'm kind of saving my first half marathon for WDW!

Lynn ~ Do you do the half at Disneyland every year? I would like to do it next year and it would be fun to meet up! Plus, I want that Coast to Coast medal!

Margie~ I'm thinking maybe we can make it out in July sometime. I'll check with my traveling sis...

Jennifer~ Sorry about canceling your race. I've been concerned all week about catching something myself. Alot of people are getting sick at work.

Do you forgive me? I've been a bad team mate! Life has been wild!

DD2 fell on an open umbrella, the spoke went into her leg about 3-4 inches. Immediately squirted blood rhythmically, thought she'd hit an artery. She's okay, missed the artery, dermabonded back together, but a scary couple of weeks watching for blood clots and infection.

DD1 had state gymnastics championships last weekend, she is the state champ for her age/level on the beam, and 2nd on all other events!

State standardized testing started last week, and DD1 and I have been cramming for her tests.

Good news? I did my second 5 miler, felt great, not sore afterwards, took a few minutes off my first 5 mile time.

Up to 50 lbs gone!

Still no races on the horizon. I am wondering if it will be fall before I get one in, since my Master's classes are on Saturdays all summer, other than the one we'll be in WDW!

I am running in the Special Olympics torch run w/ law enforcement officials and other teachers on June 4. This will be my first "public" run, as I run at a nearby park at 6am with very little company. I am quite nervous!

Forgive me, I'll be better. I'm going back to catch up, and read the bios. Thanks for posting them!

Good morning guys.

Well small victory for me I resisted getting out and race walking with my newly injured achillies and instead stayed off my feet and spent the day yesterday stretching and icing. It's much better today and hopefully tomorrow I can be back walking again. When you have achillies tendonitis it tightens up with prolonged sitting and I was coming out of the movie and stepped of the curb wrong. The pain was intense for a while but much better now. My achillies had gotten better to the point that I wasn't limping after a long, fast walk. Maybe.....

I did have a nice couple of days in Nashville, with Sally, except for the achillies issue. We saw Ironman 2 and had some nice dinners at Outback and TGI Fridays.

Margie yes 3K, we often have 5K run races but both 3K and 5K walk races.

Lynn I miss you and Scott, I sure hope we cross paths again next year.

I've decided that I'm ready now to start on dropping a few pounds. I kept having false starts on that, reminds me of stopping smoking.

Have an awesome day dear friends.

Good Morning Team!

Weather has been great here lately, in the 80's yesterday, we went kayaking, walked dogs and mowed the lawn. Today will not be quite as warm, but still sunny. We have to work on our final packing for the trip.

Dave - take care of that ankle! I am sure we will run into each other next year! The only reason we are not doing the WDW Marathon weekend is that I wanted to get to WDW for my birthday in Dec., and we have the Inaugral Dream cruise in Jan.

Hi Eva - good to see you here again!

Have a great day all!

Hi everyone! Sorry to be away again - work is keeping me busy. I have a summer student that I'm working with so I try not to post as much from work. He's keeping me pretty busy though so I'm usually trying to find stuff for him to do. I kind of miss being that young :upsidedow

Got a MAC makeover on Friday afternoon! Lots of fun - the makeup artist let me work on one eye so I'd know how to get the same look again. She had to clean up a few of my mistakes but I think I got the hang of it. Turns out, the reason I was having a lot of trouble with eye makeup was that I was holding the brush at a weird angle. Go figure!

Did a 3 miler yesterday and a 10K this morning. Wish I had gotten out earlier because the sun made it hot and with the humidity (I'm not use to it yet), it was hard to breathe. A little bit slower (1:07) than I would have liked but I'm happy to have gotten it done!

This week, I'm done 2.2 lbs and I've lost 7 lbs over the last 6 weeks! I'm really proud of myself for sticking to my no sugar, no white foods and no fried foods diet. Now the hard part will be keeping it off when the training miles pick up. That's tricky. One thing I have to say is that losing the weight still hasn't made hill training any easier :cutie:

Lynn - Seems like there won't be as many WISHers at marathon weekend this year. We're going to miss you and Scott :( The cruise sounds like a lot of fun though!

Margie - Thanks for checking up on me! Sounds like you have nice weather this weekend! We have sun but it's quite humid!

Eva - Yay! Glad to see you back on the WISH boards! We missed you! I love all the pictures you've been posting of Gage! He's quite the cutie :cutie: Did you get out for your run today? Any plans to go to WDW for marathon weekend in 2011?

Dave - Ouch take care of that Achilles! Hope it's feeling better today!

Taryn - Hope DD is okay! That is really scary! Congrats on your 50 lb loss! That is fantastic!

Sue - No plans for the Victoria Day long weekend. I've just been hanging around the city but it's been pretty quiet - fewer crowds and traffic so that's nice. I can't take too many vacation days because I'm going on a road trip in June and then our office is in the security zone for the G20 summit so I think we're going to be forced to use a few vacation days there.

Jennifer - Sorry you had to cancel the race :( Hope you're feeling better today. Summertime colds are no fun.

Mike - You win for the best line! I love it :) You could teach a charm class for guys!! Another 5K? You must have a nice collection of bling going!

Regina - How was the race?

Okay, have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi Everyone!

Not happy, I typed this post already and was about done when the silly computer kicked me all the way back to my desktop startup! Time to replace this relic!

Anyway, just a quick post to let you know I'm still around! Very busy weekend and week ahead. Yesterday, my race went pretty well. We got to cheer on an man in his seventies at the finish, he was really struggling and I thought he was going to collapse. He never ever gave up and the crowd really cheered for him and he made it. Really a fun time. I finished in 27:53 with a pace of 8:59. I was 60 / 192 and 5th in my age group.

It's time for me to officially book our room for WDW marathon weekend. We will be arriving on Thursday the 6th and leaving on Friday the 14th. I know there is a great team meeting at the POP, but where is everyone going to be staying? We are thinking of the All Star Music because they have family suites so our little man can have his own sleeping area. So, let me know if you have made plans and where you will be!

Dave~ Hope your heel is better soon, you have been doing really great with your training and I'm thinking about you!

Vicky~ You are a sweetheart!

Regina~ let us know how your race went! I hope that you had a fun time!

Sue~ I hope you are enjoying your cottage!

Lynn and Scott ~ I will see you at the DL half, if not sooner! Have a great time on your trip!

AFM~ Doing chores, a haircut, errands and some short runs this week before my "big" race on Saturday!

Mike, yes achilles is feeling better, I've been stretching and being careful, I think I will be ready for speed workout in the morning. Legs are feeling very good after a few days of rest. Three easy miles this morning with Sally was the first walking I've done since Wednesday but it felt good.

I am determined to finally quit the false starting and lose this pesky 20 lbs of extra fluff I'm wagging around. Sally and I have a contest going. :)

Have a restful sunday evening y'all.

Vicky, Hope you enjoyed the makeover. I love beauty products and MAC is one of my favorites.

Thanks everyone for your support. I made up for the race with a little retail therapy.

I finally started feeling better today and manage 4 miles in 35 minutes.

In other exciting news, I'm now planning my first Disney cruise for March 2011.

I've been struggling with a head cold. Who gets sick in May?! Seriously? I was also the victim of a lobster attack, one got a hold of my right middle finger tip. I am only bruised and tender. But why did he have to go after my favorite finger?

I still haven't heard about my position. I really would like to be in a department where the product doesn't attack me.

Today was the first of my Buff Panda Project workouts. I did 5 milers with 5 X 200m walk sprints, fastest was 59 sec. Then pool work for upper body followed by good stretching and now I'm icing while I wait for the laundry.

Vicky, you are already a beautiful princess, a makeover?

Hey Team!

I’m back! My eyes are officially fixed. I must admit my experience was even more traumatic  than I anticipated, but my eyes are corrected and seem to be healing. Boy, when the Dr. said I would be seeing halos at night he wasn’t kidding!! I’ve never seen halos before, but they are impossible to miss now. :cool2:

:cool1:DH and I absolutely LOVED our first race!!!!:thumbsup2 The only issue DH had was that he wanted to go faster every time someone passed us because he is so competitive. I think in the end we will have to go our separate ways while running so he can go faster and see what he can do and I can truck along steadily at my own pace and not feel rushed or like I’m slowing him down.

So let’s see, we had to drive approximately 7 hours :rolleyes1 from our home in Idaho to get to Tualatin, Oregon, which we never heard of until I found the race to sign up for. It is just slightly south of Portland and appeared to be this small little town. We drove up to the area from our hotel the night before to scope things out and figure out where we were going. The flyer said we would be running around a “man made lake” so while we were in the car I kept looking for the man made lake but didn’t see in anywhere…:confused3

Race morning we arrived early to make sure we had a spot to park and pick up our race bib and goodie bag. I really liked the shirt. It's black with an orange tiki guy on it. When we got to the registration/bag check/etc area there was the man made “lake” surrounded by buildings! :lmao: Ummm, yeah, it did not look like a lake to us, it looked more like a pond and was not at all what we were expecting. It was a bit chilly and the weather called for rain, but it appeared to be a decent day for running. They had the music going and the Tiki torches lit for the “Caribbean” vibe.

I don’t know what came over me but I had to pee 3, yes 3, times in the hour before the race started! My bladder must have been nervous or something because I hadn’t even consumed any fluids to make my bladder full.

Finally they called us to line up and get ready. DH and I made our way to the middle of the starting area because I did not want to be at the front or the end of the pack. They rang the buzzer to start the race and everyone cheered and we were off. :) The race was a 5K and 10K being run at the same time so at the 1 mile mark the 5Kers went straight and we went left.

The sun was coming in and out of the clouds and we were running in a park area with trees and grass that were pleasant to look at. It drizzled briefly while we were running but it felt good. I would say the weather was ideal for my tastes! The first 1.5 miles went really fast and they had a water station. I grabbed some water at the stop to practice and it seemed to go ok. The next 1.5 miles also went really quickly and before we knew it we were at mile 3! :cool1: Mile 4 also went by easily but it seems like there were more hills starting about that time.. but I pushed on. I swear it seemed like every time we finished one hill there was another one….Just when I hoped we had finished with the hill portion of the race I turned the corner and wanted to cry- another hill….the steepest one yet! :scared1:

It felt like I crawled up that hill but I made it and kept going. Shortly after that we were finally at mile 5! One left, I thought to myself…I can do this. That’s when I really started pushing it. I pushed the hardest and fastest for mile 5 and finished at a hard run. I was exhausted and thinking I should have kept a slower pace for that last mile, but was just so happy I finished!!

My final race time was 1:01:21 based on chip time and 1:01:47 based on gun time. DH and I finished 368 & 369/663 with a chip pace of 9:33. I was 36/77 in my age division and 170/406 out of all the females. My overall time and pace was 100 times better than I even expected it to be and I am just so pleased all my hard work paid off. :cloud9:

Next time I will run slower, but I am totally hooked now, as is DH. We are considering signing up for the San Francisco ½ marathon on July 25, but we would have to keep a pace of 13:42 in order to be able to finish. Do you guys think it’s doable or am I setting my sights to high?

Also, when they mention technical t-shirts for the halfs and stuff, are those all unisex sizes, or are they male & female sizes??

Thanks to everyone for all your warm wishes and thoughts while I ran my first race!! You guys are the best!

Mike- Awesome job on your race this weekend!! :cheer2: You seriously rock!:cheer2:

Sorry that was so long and thanks for reading.

Morning everyone! No serious news to report today. Did my 3 mile run really early yesterday, so I could be home before DH had to leave for work.

I really want to keep getting in a 5 mile once a week, and I am trying to make one of my days a faster run, and Mondays, well, I just try to make it through. Anyone have advice for further training to increase my mileage, decrease my speed? I haven't done any speed work or anything, yet.

Thanks! Have a great day!

Hi team! Had a great long weekend nice weather - got in a couple of runs and went to the gym yesterday. My PT was off so we got to workout with a different trainer. I asked for a kick butt workout and I got one. We did ladder work which I like because I think it helps me with coordination. Did a lot of core exercises - a couple I couldn't do. There was one where he asked us to go into a push-up position but balance one leg on a medicine ball. I couldn't stabilize myself enough to get it done. Anyway, my legs and abs are pretty sore today :) Kind of glad that today was an "off" day on my training plan.

Reginia - Fantastic race report and congrats on your 10K time (especially with those hills - yikes!!)! I think you should be able to maintain a 13:42 m/m pace. Your pace for the 10K was 9:52 m/m so I think you should be in great shape. Like Margie said, you have plenty of time to train for that distance. Make sure you do some hill training... I'd imagine there will be a few in SF. As for the t-shirts, they're usually unisex as Robert said. If they have extra, sometimes they'll let you exchange on race day.

Taryn - I'm not an expert but I usually increase my LR each week by a mile... then I'll drop it back every 3 weeks to give my body a "break". I think generally you're not suppose to increase your mileage by more than 10% a week. Speed work I do once every other week only if I'm going for a PB. If you're training for a race, it's probably best to download a training plan and work from there.

Dave - Awww shucks! I feel a little more confident now that I've lost some weight. It's fun to go shopping again - well, a little too fun I think! How's your achilles today?

Hope - Did you throw that lobster into the steamer after you got bit? :) Lots of people at work have colds as well so I think it must be something going around. I'm sure the warm days and cool nights have something to with it. I love the theme you and Nick have picked. Lots of amazing possibilities there - I can't wait to see how it all comes together!

Margie - MAC and Clinique are owned by Estee Lauder. I have a few Clinique items in my collection as well! Sounds like you had a busy day - errands and then a sleepover! Give Hagen a big hug for me!

Mike - I want what you're eating! You keep getting speedier and speedier all the time! Congrats on your 5K finish!! As for resorts in January, I usually book Pop Century and then switch to a different resort if there's a code or a good package.

Jennifer - Shopping is a cure-all for everything! Hope you got a lot nice stuff :) The cruise sounds like fun! Are you going with your family or just friends? How are things going with your new guy? Have you gone out since the running date? Just being nosy ;)

Kim/Sue - Hope you gals had a great long weekend! They're never long enough ... I know I didn't feel like getting out of bed this morning for work

Lynn/Scott - Safe travels! We'll miss you!! Check in if you can.

Have a great day everyone!!

Hey Team! Wild Man is sleeping so I figured I'd get in and post. I ran 2.5 miles this morning and boy was it HOT! I remember back when I could run 13 miles in 80 degrees and feel good...oh how things have changed! Slowly but surely I'll get back up there :upsidedow Are we still tracking miles and minutes? I'm so lost with everything...lol. I guess a 3.5 month old will do that to ya!!

Margie - I sent my bio off to Connie and I see that you are tracking races so I'll let you know if I sign up for a 4th of July 10K. I'm hoping to get enough running in before then to attempt one!

Vivky - LOL...there I go again with that V...I'm not fixing it still. :rotfl: Yes...I did get out to do my 3 miles on Sunday. I went to the gym and ran on the track. Weekend traffic can be hectic around here so I figured it'd be easier to go and zone out with my iPod. I had a great run too!! I love MAC btw...been using it for years. Did they pressure you to buy all of the products they used when you had the makeover?

Regina - Congrats on the race! I bet you are already looking for another one to run...they are addicting!!

GirtheGecko - You are getting married in WDW?!?!?! Sooo jealous!! We are hoping to have enough money to have our 10 year anniversary/vow renewal there. Still 8.5 years off from that though...but it's our plan!

Dave - Did you resist frozen pizza and beer? I was so hungry, tired, etc last night, by the time dinner rolled around I told Jordan to get us whatever. Well...KFC was his choice. I felt 15 lbs bigger and sick afterwards. :sad2:

Time to get ready for work!! :cool2:

Good morning team mates.

I've made the decision to drop some extra fluff and so far it's going awesome. The core of my new diet is baked fish and steamed veggies with the addition of baked potatoes, regular and sweet. I will also use whole grain bread and fresh salads.

The second part of my plan is to up the length and intensity of myn workouts. Along with that goes the necessity of more sleep and stretching.

My workout today was 5 miles race walking on the hills in 1 hour 47 sec. I was pleased with that time since the first mile was slow to warm up. So I was cranking the last 4 even though they seemed easy.

Yes Vicky my achillies is getting better, not healed yet but better.

Yes! After Nick proposed, it's what I kept coming back to. I figured this is my only shot at it, so might as well go for it. The wallet, I mean Dad, said yes. It wouldn't be the ULTIMATE wdw wedding, but as long as we have great food, awesome cake, and I become Nick's wife, it's all good.

Eva - See you've been away so long I forgot about Vivky  Glad to hear you had a good run and got to go to the gym! Does your gym have daycare? I noticed a few of the newer gyms here have them but they're pricey. Nope, no pressure to buy anything - you do have to spend $55 if you're getting full makeup but if the colours don't work out, you can always return so ... technically ... :rolleyes1 I'm keeping everything I bought though :)

Good Morning Team!

Hot, hazy & humid today. Last nights run was brutal. It always takes a couple of days to aclimate to the humidity when it's been awhile since we've had hot weather.

Regina/ Mike, Great race results.

Regina, DH & I rarely train or race together. It's not fair to the other person. I'm there for support/ encouragement & he also but it's my/ his time to train/ race as we wish.

Vicky, Ladies were talking on the train this morning about the G20. One is working in "the zone". Her office of hundreds was told to find another place to work. How convenient.;) Haven't heard much about how it will affect GO or TCC. Why rush with the details.

Eva, Glad motherhood it treating you well & you had time to post. How much time are you taking off work? or are you staying off indefinately?

Jen, Can't comment on running from the CR but if you can make it over to WL you can pick up the trail to run over to FW. Many paths there. Or take the boat from CR to FW & run from there.

Stay hydrated team!...............Sue

Hi all,

Somehow, I think I missed the move to the May thread, and my apologies for not taking the time to catch up.

Just got back from a not-so-relaxing trip to the World. I took a friend with me and for all practical purposes, this was her first trip. (She and some college friends blew thru MK, Epcot, and DHS in one day at one point!) So, I took it upon myself so show her around. By the end of every day, my dogs were barking!! But, I did have a good time.

Been having some more trouble with my knee. Really have pain in it whenever I go up stairs. Did manage a half hour walk/run this morning, but on hindsight I probably shouldn't have done that. I think I'm going to make a dr. appointment and have the orthopedist look at it again. It's been almost two years since I last saw her, and I think that's long enough.

Might try to take a walk this evening if the knee isn't too bad.

Good morning team.

Margie I'm looking forward to the race on monday. It will be my first speed race of the season and I'm curious how I will do. I've done the Goofy and 2 half marathons but no short fast races.

This morning I was going to do a pool workout but the pool was packed with water aerobics women and kids.

Safe travels to Scott and Lynn in London.

Hey guys!

I threw ice today, about a half hour's worth. I also took a 45 minute walk yesterday. No idea how far I went, but I was toast when I got back since it was 96 and sticky. No water/fluids with me, so I didn't want to push it too hard.

Margie thank you for my memorial day card that was very sweet. It is nice when someone does that, I'm from the time when warriors came home as less than heroes during the Vietnam War.

My healthy eating is going wonderfully and I should be shedding onwanted fluff by leaps and bounds. I was 186 on Sunday when I made the decision and I weighed 180.6 today. Miss my comfort food? Not yet.

Today was a rest day with lots of stretching and icing for achillies.

Have a restful evening y'all.

Good morning team.

Dave McGovern told me there are 2 world class race walkers on the USA team that are over 50. That has been inspiring me to look at my training a little bit, no hell a lot, different.

My walk today was 5 miles on the hill route, total time 1 hour and 17 seconds. This was about 30 sec off my best time for the WKU hills. I will be breaking that hour soon. Grrrrrrr!

Margie I was in the Army during Vietnam and transferred to the Air Force.

Hi team! Happy Friday and Happy Memorial day to everyone in the US. Anyone have exciting plans for the long weekend? Just a quick fly-by for me today - worked out at the gym last night. I extended my session to an hour because I have that wedding coming up so I want to make sure I keep the weight off or losing a few extra would be good too  Our sessions were split between deadlifting (30 minutes) and metabolic exercises with kettlebells and medicine ball exercises. It was nice to have my training sessions back to my PT and myself :)

No plans for the weekend - 2nd week of training for the 30K and 1st week of training for the 10 miler. I'm going to have to try and figure out how to combine and balance the mileage between the two.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone! And good luck to everyone who'll be racing!

Hi Everyone!

Good news, I'm down to 215.5 lbs from 248 post surgery! That's 32.5 pounds for me! Tomorrow is my longest race and distance that I will have ever done. Margie, my bib number is 213 and there are 10,000 in the race. It should be fun! I just had a big bowl of brown rice with corn and peas to fuel myself up a little, I have to leave home at about 4am. My goal is to run the whole way!

Dave~ Good luck and great job in your weigtloss plan! I have't been in the 180's since I was about twelve years old! I'd feel skinny as a rail!

Margie~ Yes, it's much colder on the lakefront! Lake Michigan's water temp is only in the lower 50's and it signifigantly affects the air temp downtown. Plus the breeze is supposed to be directly off the lake. It should be perfect for the race!

Vicky~ be sure to post some pictures of yourself when dressed to attend the wedding!

Remember that the reason we have this long weekend is to honor those who have served to defend and protect our country! - Mike (the son of a world war II vet, and friend to a Korean war POW ) :cool2:

Hey Everyone,

Hope you are all enjoying this weekend. Ran 3 miles today. Didn't time it since we went to the local high school and ran around the track. Wasn't as bad as I remember it being when I first started running...:confused3

Robert- Thanks for the feedback on the shirt sizes! Hope all your races this season have been running smoothly so far!

Taryn- Have you thought about running a specific running plan that’s already made up like one from John Bingham, Jeff Holloway, C25K..etc to help you with your planning and training? I believe Vicky is correct, I also read somewhere you should not increase your mileage by more than 10% each week. The training plan I’m on now also seems to have a taper phase every 3 wks or so.

Margie- Thanks for the support! I think we are going to sign up for the SF ½ when we get our next checks if it is still open. We kind of already requested time off work in the event we decided to go…:rolleyes1

Vicky- Thanks for the feedback! So you guys have decided to make the trip for the wedding then? How do you train for 2 races of differing miles at the same time?

Eva- Yes, you are right. I was already looking for my next race as soon as we crossed the finish line!

Dave- WTG on your decision to drop some extra fluff. That’s awesome it’s going well! Keep up the good work! Good luck on your race this weekend! Let us know how it goes!

Hope- Have you heard about the job yet?

Lynn- Thanks for checking in from Normandy. Sounds like so much fun!
Mike- Can’t wait to hear your race report!

That's it for now. Keep up the great work everyone.

Sally is off to Miss with her sister to visit family so I was fending for myself.

My weight is still going down, the scale showed 178 this morning. My planned workout is an easy 3 miles since tomorrow is my first short speed race. Wish me luck.

Hi Team!

Dave~ have a great race tomorrow! Kick some butt! Great job an the weight loss, between you, me and Robert maybe we can loose the equivalent of another person!

Margie~ Thanks for keeping track of me! :goodvibes How is Hagen doing with his tummy?

Lynn and Scott~ I hope that you are taking lots of pictures on your trip!

AFM~ The Soldier Field 10 miler went pretty well! I wanted to be between 1:40 and 1:45 and really wanted to beat 1:40 !! It was cold and breezy in the morning as the sun was coming up and alot of people had long pants and shirts on. As the race started it got pretty warm with a slight breeze off the lake. I heard a few runners complaning how hot it was during the run! (sissies) The expo before the race was nice with about 12 boothes set up for different vendors and race sponsors. The American Cancer Society, who I ran for, had their own tent and food for their team and a private gear check. Everyone was really nice.
The stadium was open early and I got to walk around a bit while waiting for the start of the race. People were lining up outside to use the porto pots and I went inside and had the place alomost to myself. It's funny how people just follow others and don't think things out sometimes. Anyway, we lined up for the start in two corrals with the faster runners going first. They left two minutes before we did as I am a slowpoke. As our corral started and I crossed the start line, my footpod on my polar gave up! Grrrrr! I had just changed the battery!!! So, I had to pace myself by my time on my watch. I did okay at the beginning and at the three mile mark we passed the leaders already heading back to the finish! They were moving! At the turn around point they had a DJ and music playing to cheer us on. The return run was right along the lake front, which was nice because I was now starting argree that it was getting hot out there. At the eight mile mark I was at 1:18:30 which was a new personal best for me, so I knew I was doing good. The last two miles were tough and I did my best to keep moving. It was fun to enter the stadium and cross the 50 yard line! I was ready to collapse, but I never stopped running except for the two water stops that I used. I MADE IT!!!:woohoo: And, as Margie has reported, I did it in 1:38:09 !!! I beat the ten mile and hour pace, with 9:49!!!! I finished 4435 / 8274.
I got some water, watched a few finishers and they shooed us off the field to make way for others. I collected my medal and headed back to the expo once I recovered a little. Then I went into the stadium and found a seat to watch some more people cross the finish line while I calmed down some more.
I stayed until all the finishers crossed and headed home to get Lizzie at work.
I learned several things: I can run ten miles today while I couldn't run the mile in high school, training pays off, and I love my new shoes that I bought for the race. I never wanted to quit, but I did want to drop my pace, which I forced myself into not doing. I set a goal and made it happen!!! As Dave says, I got my Grrrrrr on!
The weather really was perfect and things went really well. (although a couple of people ended up in first aid with heat exhaustion, dehydration, I.V.'s and blankets) I will probably do this race again next year.
This morning Liz wanted to do a 5K race and I joined her, as our Robert was with his Grandparents and we don't usually get to run together. I was a little sore at the start, but it was really hot today so I warmed up quick. I paced Liz as she wanted to break 34 minutes. We got her in at a new PR for her at 32:10 !!!:woohoo: She did really well even though she struggled a little. The race was the Salute inc. 5k/10K in Arlington Heights IL. We met some people there that had run the 10 miler yesterday (I was wearing my shirt) and we exchanged email addresses, so we made some new friends!!

So, I guess I ran a half marathon between the two days.....I'm ordering a pizza and taking tomorrow off from training! Although, there is a local 5K tomorrow.....

Dave- Good luck tomorrow! Show em how it's done! :hippie:

AFM I ran 4 miles today in 39:35...but now my foot by my ankle is really sore...not sure if it's my achilles tendon or not since it's not really the back of my foot that's hurting? It was a little sore after 10K last week and I've pretty much rested since the race last Sun before yesterday. Yesterday it felt ok, a little sore, but today it really hurts now that my run is over. :sad2: Now I'm worried about what I've done to it and even more worried I'm not going to be able to run in the SF 1/2 in July. :sad1: I think I will keep an eye on it and see how it feels. If it doesn't get to feeling better in the next day or so, or if it does get better and really hurts like this after my next run, I guess I'm going to have to break down and go the Dr. :headache:

Until next time...

Good morning y'all.

I'm leaving for my race in about an hour and a half. I had cereal with skim milk with a banana cut up on it, a bagel, cup of coffee and a bottle of water. I'm 178 lbs this morning, no weight loss yesterday but the lbs will be coming off slower now after that first initial 8 lbs.

This is a different kind of a race with no awards or T shirts. A local high school puts this race on every year to fund their cross country team. The school lost all it's cross country teams supplies, uniforms, the awards and T shirts they had stored when the floods came last month.

The coach approached me at work and asked if I thouht it would be ok to put the race on without the goodies. I said I thought it would be fine and the local runners and walkers would support it. I hope I was right.

Hi team! Hope everyone is having a fantastic long weekend! Just a quick drive by for me today - did a couple of runs on the weekend but was slowed way down by the heat and an upset stomach. Don't think the two were related but boy did it make for some tough running. Tried going out again this morning and ended up cutting my run short by a mile because of some nasty stomach cramps. Hopefully it goes away by the time I go in for training this afternoon.

Margie - Put me down for another 2.2 lb loss! I'm hoping to lose another 5 lbs but so far, I'm down 11 lbs from January (when I got back from WDW). The wedding is this Sunday - I'll post updates on Facebook as long as data charges aren't crazy expensive.

Mike - Congrats on your fantastic race time! Do you run nonstop or do you do run/walk intervals? Definitely will take lots of pics! Already picked out a dress - so I have to keep my eating on track this week, otherwise it won't fit. Congrats on your weight loss so far!!

Regina - Sorry to hear about your ankle! Make sure you're icing it. Sports tape or an ankle brace might help you to keep it aligned properly when you're not running - I don't like running with the brace but will run with the tape. Not really sure how to train for two races at the same time  What I'm doing is taking the LRs for the 30K and doing those and will probably taper closer to the 10 miler. On the days that I'm not up for running as much, I will probably just do the lower mileage from the 10M training plan.

Dave - WTG on the healthy eating and weight loss!! You've always got a lot of good advice about weight loss and training :)

Lynn/Scott - Glad you made it safely to London! Thanks for the update!

Connie - How are you doing?

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Memorial day 3K walk race, done and won. They had a 3K run/walk and a 2K walk. I was first walker in the 3K. There was a race walker in the 2K that would have given me a run for it but he chose the 2K instead, he won the 2K. Tough course for a race walker, grass and dirt with a serious hill you hit twice.

It was a fun race and perfect weather, it's tough to walk fast on the soft surface of grass and dirt. My pace was 12:38 which is slow for me but trail walking is not the same as road racing, and I didn't have anyone pushing me so I was in cruise mode.

This race was special to me since this was the last race I ever ran. The dirt and grass were brutal on my achillies tendonitis and I was hurting so bad when I did it in 2006 that I decided that would be the last time I tried to run.

Thank you Margie. Yes I'm glad it was such a positive experience. I'm not pleased with the time and pace but I've never gone fast on this course. I just don't race well on trails.
