On wait list, need to bank by 8/31, help

I am on a wait list for a room Dec. 29- Jan 1. My use year is in March so I need to bank by 8/31.

My question is can I bank my points if I am on the wait list? If I don't bank them, I will lose them but if I bank them then I won't have points to satisfy the points necessary for my December stay. How does wait list vs. banking work?

I already am booked Dec. 26-28.

I would bank the points and if your waitlist comes through you can borrow points from your next use year to make the reservation.

You only have to bank now if it's more than 50% of your points.

If it's less, you have more time to keep them available just in case the waitlist comes through.
