Thanks for the new thread, Veronica! :cool1:

Maybe we should post our races for the month, too? I'm doing my very first official race (a 10k) on the 15th!

A little bit of a discouraging run for today. I think my expectations are just a little to high. I am a perfectionist so this running stuff drives me crazy. I get frustrated when I am too slow or feeling like "im gonna die" during a run. I am very competitive so it kills me to know I am always in the back and not the best. Ok with that being said let me tell you about my run today.

I decided to go outside since it is beautiful out today. It was already 60 some degrees at 730 this morning. I am the one who will be praying for the cooler weather on princess morning.:confused3 Morning only then it can be warm the rest of the day. :lmao: Well I did C25K W5D3. I felt great while running on my treadmill but outside not so much. I was sucking wind and felt like my body was barely moving when I ran. I made it through the first 5 min run and then my next two 5 min session I think I walked about 1/4 to 1/2 of them. I made it to the 2mile mark at 29 minutes. I also didnt realize how much of an incline was around my area. For the most part I was running on an incline the slightest, not a hill by any means but it does make a huge difference than just running flat. I guess I cant expect miracles but it just made me wonder if I will ever be able to do this. I know its my first week of running....maybe I should have started at week one of the C25K. :confused3
I think I am definitely going to make saturdays my run outside day for sure. I cant count on the treadmill to totally get me ready for the 1/2.

Ok well thank you for listening to me. I hope your saturday is "incredible"

Well, it's pouring down rain this morning in Middle Tennessee! That is helping me to NOT run, which is good. My knee has been bothering me, and I didn't run on Thursday. It is not all the way better, so I knew I needed to take off today, but I didn't want to. The rain will keep me in check. I know it is hurting because I was pushing too much. I am going to have to remember that slow and steady improvement will be much better in the long run and help me to avoid injury. I have been reading Jeff Galloway's running book, and he really stresses the importance of some slower, easier runs each week instead of running hard every time.

Like Lindsay mentioned above, I am type A, so slow and steady will require some self-control on my part!

I hope everyone has an incredible Saturday!

Finally, the scale was on my side this morning - lost two more pounds. Starting W7D1 this afternoon and my DH and I are going to switch locations from our neighborhood to the beach. Our beach has hard packed sand, so I hope it will be OK. If nothing else the scenary will be awesome.

If anyone is going to watch the Kentucky Derby today, a good friend of ours works for the family that owns Dublin #17. They ran Flying Private last year and the horse came in dead last. Hoping for a better run this year!

90 days until our Europe cruise, so we got to book our excursions and Palo at 12:00 a.m. last night:banana: Need to stay in shape, so I can eat more at Brunch.

Keep up the Pace,

Scubamickey

Linda-the scale was sooo mean to me!!! But like you said its all sodium. But boy there is nothing like good NY pizza. It was worth it.

Making the adjustment to outside running from the treadmill can take some time. I had trouble with it at first too, since I have to power me, not the belt of the mill!!! Eventually you will not want to run on the treadmill again!!

Galloway is a smart guy, like him. And he is right. Resting your knee is a good thing, even though you think you should be out there. Taking time to heal will only help you in the future.

Yay for the scale moving!!! Hope your run on the beach was good. Just finished watching the Derby, boy what a mess with all that rain!! Very exciting at the end.

Jealous of you cruising in 90 days. We are trying to plan for next June/July, but with potentially 3 other couples/families going, it is quite an effort.

For myself, I did not run this morning, I decided I needed to sleep more. I did spend 2 hours working outside in the beautiful weather today. Mowed the backyard, transplanted some plants from my neighbor that she gave me, planted 2 new trees (which means I had to dig the holes for them). Just finished cooking and eating dinner (DH and DD had burgers, I had a portobella mushroom as my burger-no meat since I am running long tomorrow).

Time to walk the dog and then have some sherbet for dessert.

Well, I posted that it was raining this morning. It's still raining, and there is flooding everywhere! It's truly unbelieveable how much rain has fallen today (I think we've had about 6 inchess so far and it's not supposed to stop until Monday morning). They are driving boats down the INTERSTATE to rescue people. I have seen footage of cars and a building floating down I-24 through Nashville. (You can see pics at wkrn.com)

When my son's baseball game got cancelled this morning, we went into Nashville to the science center. We had no idea the weather would get so bad so fast. We had tornado warnings, and shortly after we returned home, all three interstates into Nashville were closed due to high waters.

Tomorrow was initially predicted to be the heaviest rains. I truly hope they are wrong about that. We can't take much more.

Hope all of you are enjoying better weather than we are here!

Amy ~ I think I'm going to do a 10K on the 15th as well. I've got to get my son signed up for at least a 10K so he'll have an official time to turn in for the DL half. I'm just worried about the course on this particular one...there's a lot of up hill....I hate hills!

I decided to go outside since it is beautiful out today. It was already 60 some degrees at 730 this morning. Lindsay ~ I've always been told when running on the treadmill to set the incline to at least 1%....it'll make it a little harder and is suppose to be more like running outdoors. Now with that being said....I still have a harder time outside than I do on the treadmill....:confused3 not sure if it really works!

Finally, the scale was on my side this morning - lost two more pounds.

Linda ~ Great job! :thumbsup2

Lauren ~ I have been watching this storm closely....all of my family lives just outside of the Memphis area and I have family and friends that live in the Nashville area....it is horrible looking at the pictures. There is a FB page (I survived the Nashville Monsoon..I think is what it is called) that people have been posting pictures on...so scary. I pray this moves through and no more lives are lost. My husband is flying to Atlanta tomorrow so I certainly hope it clears up. BE SAFE!

For me....it has been a NON exercise weekend. We went to Tahoe on Thursday and came home this morning. The most physical thing I've done is a 2 1/2 hour snowmobile ride....and believe it or not my arms and hips are super sore! It wore me out! So it has been a lot of eating...no exercising and tomorrow is not looking any better. My youngest son has a water polo tournament 2 hours away and it will be an ALL day event. I'm hoping when we get home tomorrow night I can wind down with a run on the treadmill.

Hope everyone is having an Incredible weekend!

Morning Incredibles!!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, it is very warm here in upstate NY. Though that is supposed to change when the rains come tonight. But for today I will enjoy it.

Ran 8 miles this morning in 1:29, 11:07 avg pace, not too bad. Did take some walk breaks, but was really moving at times.

FIL called while I was out yesterday and talked to DH. Wants to "negotiate a truce". DH told him no, that I am going to continue to train by myself. That I am running better and finally doing what I need to do, and not just go along with my crazy MIL.

Also, today was a little bit of a milestone for me. I got on the scale and I weighed in at 163.8. I have not been this low in probably 12 years, I weighed 160 when DH and I got married in 1997. I was totally jazzed about the weight and am looking forward to starting my training in the 150's!

Now I am off to do some laundry, then when DH gets back, we are out to do more yardwork!!

Veronica, that's a lot of INCREDIBLE stuff. Way to go on the run, and the weight loss! :cheer2::cheer2:

As for me, I did 5.2 miles this morning (skipped the big hill) in 59:05. 5.28 mph, 11:21 pace. Better than yesterday, still not great. Stupid heat!!! It got very warm in NYC all of the sudden this weekend, and I have to learn how to run in the warmer temps. Especially if I'm going to be doing the half in Orlando in October!

Hi y'all- Maura sent me over here to join in the fun with you! I'm not 100% sure what I'm supposed to do still, but I'm ready to jump right in!

I'm Kristen, chunky middle aged Momma who started getting back in shape last year. Now I'm a little addicted, but still super slow...LOL. I did my 1st Triathlon in Sept. 2009, and my 1st 10K in April 2010. I'm signed up for 5 more Tri's this season, and if I ever get my hip rehabbed I'm starting a half training group for a race in November. I'd LOVE to do one of the Disney halfs in 2011!

Welcome Kristen!!! We are glad to have you join us. Feel free to post up about races, workouts, frustrations, successes whatever!! We are all here to encourage each other!!

I will add you to our roster on the first post. If you would like, I can include your birthday or any races you are doing. Many of us are doing at least 1 Disney race between now and next January, but not everyone.

Wow, 5 tri's coming up. I am not a swimmer, so tri's are not my cup of tea. Running, I'm all over it, but my idea of swimming is lounging in the pool with a drink in my hand.:lmao:

Oh my gosh you guys! I feel like I can’t keep up with this thread!! I want so badly to post a million times a day but I’ve been working more at home, spending more time with the kids outside, spending more time at the Y working out and it’s taking my free time away from me. On the plus side, I’m FINALLY less then 25lbs away from my long term weight loss goal. I lost 1.4lbs this last week and I think strength training has been a big help. I’m officially at 88.2lbs lost (though after I had DS, it was 100lbs!).

Today I ran six miles for the first time! I’m absolutely over the moon about it! I did it in 1:02.34. I have my first 10K on June 5th and I know I can kick butt! Now I just have to work on that time and get it under an hour!

Amy – I can’t wait to hear about your 10K on the 15th! The two of us have been so close with our times in training and I’m so excited to hear your results!

Lindsay – Don’t you dare feel discouraged about your run yesterday. Outside running is very different from the treadmill. I really think you’ll learn to enjoy it more then the mill, just keep at it. Besides, everyone has their off days. Here I ran 6 miles today and just on Wednesday, I ran 2.25 miles and stopped because I was dying! How nuts is that?

Lauren – I’ve been having the same problem with my knee. I’m reading Marathoning for Mortals and it says to take three full days off. So if you run on Sunday, you can run again on Thursday. I keep wanting to push through it but I know it’s a mistake. Feel better.

Linda (Scuba) – Congrats on your two lbs lost! You’re just doing so great! I was stuck at the same weight for like a month and I finally broke through it this week… it has better continue!

Patsy – I had a weekend of gluttony myself. I think I redeemed myself a bit with a six mile run today. I hope you’re able to hit the treadmill a bit tonight and undo any possible damanage!

Veronica – Congrats on this weight loss! That’s huge! Congrats on your time as well! Eight miles in 1:29 sounds pretty fabu to me! I’m glad to hear that DH is sticking up for you doing your own thing with the running!

Kristen – Welcome to the Incredibles! Congrats on your tris and all your accomplishments! I’m going to do my first tri in August, a fundraiser for my job. It’s a sprint tri but I’m excited about it anyway!

OK, time to put my kiddo to bed. I’ll try to do better with getting on here more often. I can do fly-by posts but I feel bad making it all about me. Totally not my style!

Oh yeah, I have a 5K on the 23rd that I’m doing here locally. It’s call the Granger Pats 5K in Granger, IN.

Morning Incredibles!!

Well its Monday again, and boy am I tired!! With the nice weather this weekend, we were super busy. Now I get to go to work to relax!

An unfortunate thing I have discovered: I can't eat beef. :sad2: We had hamburgers last night for dinner (90/10 so they were lean) but as soon as I ate it, I felt horrible. I still feel like blah, its just a rock sitting in my tummy. I have had trouble before with beef if I ate too much (like 2 days in a row), but I haven't had a hamburger in months. I guess I will stick with the portobella mushroom while DH and DD have burgers. It is less points to boot.

No running for me today; I start training in a couple weeks, but I am still building my base. Hoping to get outside to run in the mornings soon.

Have a wonderful day all!!:flower3:

Good Morning Everyone. Happy Monday:goodvibes I am back to work today.:surfweb: Although I agree with Veronica that its more relaxing than being home. Today is my completion of week 1 weigh in day. I usually wait until right before lunch so I will post back here on what the outcome is. I think its going to be good.:thumbsup2

Veronica- Great job on getting so much done this weekend. At least the portabella's are less in points it means more of something else! Hope your belly is feeling back to normal soon.

Jess- Great Job on the weight loss. :woohoo: Good luck with your race on the 23rd. I cant wait to hear how you do.

Have a great day everyone!:flower3:

Good morning everyone!!

A beautiful morning here in upstate NY-was a gorgeous 47 degrees when I went out to run my 3 miles this morning. It is so nice to not *have* to run on the treadmill. And living in a development that connects to another development is great to have a variety of routes to run. I do tend to run the same one over and over, it is my favorite.

Hoping that the next few days stay like this so I can get out each morning. Weight is coming back down, after a weekend of naughtiness.:scared1:

Looked over my training plan again-it is actually 16 weeks, there were two week 8's listed (oversight by coach!) so I am starting on 5/18 instead of 5/25.

Good morning! I am behind on all the updates, but I am planning to go back and catch up. We lost our computer to a lightning strike during the Tennessee monsoon this weekend, but we have now hooked up an old unit so we can have internet access. I hope we will be able to recover docs and pics from our damaged computer, and we are going to have to purchase a new computer sometime this week.

I'm not sure the flood in Nashville has gotten much national press (until water got into the Titans' stadium and the Opryland Hotel and then it became a newsworthy event), but there is complete devastation around here. Thousands of homes are underwater and most of them were not in known flood plains, so people don't have flood insurance. Although I know Katrina was bigger in scale, the images of so many homes underwater and thousands of people being removed from homes by boat are similar. So, so sad. We are truly thankful to be dry in our house!

I am hoping to run today. I haven't run in a week because of my knee (it's better, but not 100%) and the flooding, so I am going to go easy today.

I hope everyone has a great Tuesday. Please keep the many, many people who have lost homes and businesses in Nashville and other TN cities in your thoughts and prayers!

ETA: I just finished a very short and slow run. Whew! 80 degrees at direct sun is hot for a run! My knee is still hurting, so I tried to take it easy. Really, its the ligament/tendon/something on the inside of my left knee. I rested it for a week, but it still hurts. Any tips?

Hi gang! Just hoppin' on here so I don't fall too far behind in the posts like I have been lately. I'm still on cloud nine from my six mile run on Sunday. I still can't believe I did it... six miles! Today's my day off from working out so I plan on heading home from work in an hour and vegetating in my jammies with the kids the rest of the day. Tomorrow I'll do my Power Pump class and get two miles in before a 4-5 mile run on Thursday. I'm coming up on 100 miles run for the year (I should make in probably next week) and I'm excited about that!

Lauren - Here in Indiana we've gotten a lot of coverage of the TN floods. It's awful and I definitely have everyone down there in my prayers. I'm not sure what all parts were affected but DH is on his way to Murfreesboro for work tomorrow!

Veronica - Glad to hear the weekend weight is coming off. I'll check tomorrow if mine's going down but I'm nervous about it! Glad to hear you had a nice run this AM.

OK, off to finish the last 38 minutes of work!

Thanks for all the welcomes y'all!!! I think I'm gonna like it here!

Tris- my favorite event is anything that isn't swimming....LOL. I hate it.

My birthday is Dec. 25 (the worst BD ever!)
My next race is a Tri on May 23.

Fingers crossed- I am going to try running 3 miles tonight. My doc has finally given me permission to see how my hip handles it. I have a hip flexor injury that is being resistant to get better. On the upside- I've been doing yoga as part of rehab and I am really liking it.

OK, off to finish the last 38 minutes of work!

Hooray for you on six miles! That is a huge accomplishment! I haven't gotten there yet, but I hope to this summer.

I think all major interstates are now clear, so I'm sure your husband will make it to Murfreesboro fine. He can check the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) website for road closures. The water is receding now, so I'm sure major roads will be even better by tomorrow.

Congrats on your long run!

Lauren - Due to a heavy work schedule, I haven't been watching the news lately....until this morning. I had heard that Nashville had some flooding but I had NO IDEA it was so bad. My heart goes out to all those effected by the flooding. I've had some minor flooding in my home but it doesn't compare to what's happening there. I'm taking that you didn't take a direct hit? All I can say is WOW!

Patsy - I keep meaning to respond to an earlier message you wrote...

WOOOOOOOO PIG SOOOOOOOIIIIIEEEEEEE! :teeth: I live in Russellville. I went to U of A - many moons ago. Definitely a party school. I had a little too much fun during that first year there.....and..... I was tame compared to a lot of students. :rolleyes1 However, it is a good school and some of my best friends today are those that I met while there.

Kristen - :welcome: I'd love to do a tri someday. My hat's off to you for doing 5 this year. :worship: :cheer2:

Lindsay - That is SUPER INCREDIBLE!!! Way to go! :cheer2: :yay:

Jess - Keeping my fingers crossed that you can go to the Princess half next year. Bummer on the rate increase! Hope you can get that worked out. Good luck on your upcoming race!

Veronica - good for you for keeping stance concerning your MIL. You gotta do what works for you. :thumbsup2 By the way, my birthday is June 1 (6/1). Thanks for keeping up with all of this.

Amy - you've got plenty of time to train in the heat this summer before the Wine & Dine. I did the Race for the Taste last year. It was soooooo HOT. I remember thinking that I couldn't do a half in that kind of heat. The humidity was at 100%. Doing it at night might not be so bad since you won't have the sun and hopefully, a little less humidity and heat. I'm still going trying to decide if I'm going to do it. I'd have to go by myself if I do. :(

As for me, I have been riding my bike more than anything. I probably won't get back into walking/running until school gets out - 2 more weeks! I signed up with a personal trainer last week and we worked on core exercises. I was very sore on Sunday. I'm so out of shape! I have a feeling she's not going to let me get by with anything. It's put up or shut up time.

Veronica- glad the weight is coming back down. It was beautiful here in Eastern PA today too. Perfect running weather. I did the opposite I ran after the sun set and it was great. If I had to guess I would say 60 with not much humidity. Glad you had a good run and good luck with your new running plans. At least you noticed now that there is another week in it.

Lauren- I cant believe your computer got hit with lightning. So sorry to hear about that. I am glad at least your home is ok. That is so horrible what has happened to so many people. As far as the knee, if you have rested it for a week and its still bothering you I would call or see your physician. It may be something more. Maybe they could prescribe you some physical therapy to help too.

Jess- You should still be very proud of yourself for running 6 miles. That is great. I still cant imagine myself doing it but I know it will come eventually. 100 miles is an awesome accomplishment too! You have alot to be excited about. Hope you had a good day relaxing with the kids.

Kristen- Good luck with your run tonight hope it goes well.

Susie- sometimes you need a good trainer to push you.:thumbsup2

I felt much better about my run tonight. I completed C25K W6D1 and did 2/1 in 29 min. I ran the exact time the program said. I even did a hill and some pretty good inclines. I dont know what the difference was from saturday but like alot of you said you have some runs that are great and others not so much. Thanks for all the pick me ups. It definitely helped to keep me going. :flower3:

Hi, I'm Laura. I was looking at the WISH pages and I know that my friend Lindsay (Mommyof2Pirates) was on the Incredibles, but what really told me this was the group for me was that Veronica and her daughter share a birthday with Mickey. My 5 1/2 month old daughter shares her birthday with Mickey too.

Anyway, I have now committed to running and plan on running in next year's Princess 1/2. My weight has had its ups and downs most of my life. I am 30 years old with a 10 year old and an infant. When I met my husband I weighed about 148 pounds and that was the thinnest I have really been as an adult. After two kids I weigh in at about 204 and have just begun running. I am really looking to support others and get support from others who are working on goals just like me.

I think out of all the yo yoing I have done and different diets that running and walking will be the healthiest way to reach my goal. Currently, I am being conscious of what I am eating, but I am not dieting as I am still breastfeeding.

Anyway, I am very excited about this journey I am about to undertake and can't think of a better motivator than being empowered to do a 1/2 marathon with thousands of strong woman at one of my favorite places on earth!!!

Thanks for listening.

Good morning everyone. Sorry not being here for the last couple of days. School got in the way. Today is the big day for my students. AP exam day. All I can do is pray that they remember what I have taught them.

I took the day off today. I have 4 AP classes and most of them will be gone because of testing. The one class that I would have will be coming from the test so they will not be in any mode to do anything. So I took the day

I have a foot doctor's appointment this morning. I need to talk to him about the orthotics he made me. My right foot seems to be turning out when I wear them. My old ones never did this.

Have a great day everyone. I think I am off for a walk

Hey Laura glad you joined the team. :goodvibes If you need a running plan to start with check out coolrunning.com Couch to 5K program it gradually gets you into running by using an easy run/walk ratios. I am using it and alot of others are using it to. Good luck and if you do need a diet to follow while breastfeeding I can give you my WW book you get extra points for breastfeeding. It still gives you the extra calories to not decrease your milk supply. Just an offer.

Welcome Laura!!! How fun your DD has the same birthday as me, my DD and Mickey!

Definately check out the C25k program, that is a great way to get going with running. And yep, everyone here is doing something different in terms of weight loss and training, but its all good. Just drop in to brag about success, vent about frustration or just say hi!

Good morning Incredibles!! I've missed you all. It's was a busy week for me. My son made his first communion on saturday, and I was getting the house and yard in order before hand, and we had an absolutely beautiful day. He did a reading in church and was so sweet and serious, and then we had our family and friends over for a party. I only ran twice last week, but got back to it yesterday and ran/walked 3.6 miles, probably ran 2 miles. I'm liking the walk/run better, it doesn't get my joints as achey. My hip had really bothered me for a good week, after I did 2.5 miles straight, and adding the walking back in has really helped.

I hope to be back on later and get over here more often now, and keep up with the running.

Veronica- congrats on the running, and reaching a new low weight!! It's such a good feeling to see a number we haven't seen in years. I gotta get back on the ww wagon very soon.

Congrats to all the successful running you are all doing and welcome to the newest incredibles!!

Momto2pirates- I'm pretty new to the running, but find that when I can't breathe and am dying, I am running too fast, and I try to slow down a little, and that will usually keep me running.

I think there was more I wanted to say, but I got to run to work now. Keep on running or walking everyone!!!! We can be INCREDIBLE!!!!

As far as the knee, if you have rested it for a week and its still bothering you I would call or see your physician. It may be something more. Maybe they could prescribe you some physical therapy to help too.

I had to take my daughter in for an ear infection today, so I asked her pediatrician what he thought about my knee (he is a runner and I knew he wouldn't mind me sneaking in a free question). He said from the location, it is a ligament (not one of the major ones) and that it sounded like overuse, not a more serious probelm. He told me to rest it another week and ice it a couple of times a day. I am also wearing a compression sleeve on it, and he said that would help. If this doesn't help, I'll make an appointment with a sports doctor. We pay 100% of our medical bill until we reach our deductible, so I would REALLY like to avoid going to the doctor, if possible.

Kathy- thanks for the advice, I noticed last night in my run that even though I might have been jogging at the same pace I might walk it still was jogging:laughing: This has helped to keep me going.

Lauren- glad to know you were able to get a good medical opinion. At least hopefully you should feel a little bit better about just resting it and waiting out the injury. I hear ya about the deductibles I do the same thing with ours. I work for a pediatrician so I have easy access to question asking which is nice. Heres wishing you a speedier recovery :wizard:

Hi Incredible's :wave2: It has been a busy week around here...Glad tomorrow is Thursday because it is my Friday and I'm ready for the day off!

Welcome to the team Laura & Kristen! :welcome:

Congrats to all of you who are moving the scale downwards! It is awesome and very inspiring to me! Keep it up! :thumbsup2

Even though this has been a busy week I have managed to fit in a run, a walk and a bootcamp class. Monday after work I went walk/run with a co-worker. She is just starting to run so we did a 1 min run & a 4 min walk for 4 miles and then I came home and my son and I went and ran 3 miles...we are participating in the Susan G. Komen breast cancer 5K on Saturday so we thought we'd get in a practice run. So that was a total of 7 miles on Monday! I went back to bootcamp on Tuesday and needless to say today was a very s-l-o-w moving day because I am super sore....but no pain ~ no gain :lmao: So tonight I took my puppy for a 3 mile walk to try and stretch out these sore muscles...didn't work though. I think I'm worse than before I went :confused3

Lauren ~ I hope things are starting to improve around the Nashville area. I have been keeping up with the situation and it really makes me so sad to see the water in the Opryland Hotel and the OpryMills mall....it is just horrible. I have family and friends in the area so it is very close to my heart.

Well Incredibles have a GREAT Thursday and Happy Exercising!!

Patsy- today is my friday too :thumbsup2 I am so glad to have off tomorrow, I really need a day to relax. It sounds like you are being so motivated you might be over doing it. Remember to let those muscles relax sometimes too. You dont want to get injured. I get like that sometimes too. :goodvibes Great job on fitting it all it though thats such a task when its a busy week. Hope the body is feeling better soon and good luck in the race.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I am learning so much just by reading your posts. You all have so much to give just by sharing your lives.

I have now been doing this for a little over a week and I lost about 1 1/2 pounds, but then this morning I went up a half pound. I haven't been eating poorly. I have decided it must be muscle. My legs feel more muscular and muscle weighs more than fat, right? When I would just diet that would discourage me, but it isn't bothering me because I know I'm going to make healthy eating choices today continue to walk/jog.

The walking and jogging are going well. I am alternating jogging and walking for a total of 2 to 2 1/2 miles with a 3/4 mile cooldown walk. I love the cooldown part because sometimes I walk by my house and my dh, ds and dd come along.

I figure to make it to the princess 1/2 marathon I need to add 1/4 mile per week.

Welcome Laura!

Glad everyone's training is going well! I got out and did some intervals yesterday: 1 mile warmup run to the track, 3x800s with a 400 walk inbetween, then a 1mile cool down back home. I hope to do this once a week combined with a tempo run and a long run.

This is completely non-running related, but I entered a photo contest and two of my photos have made it to the first round of voting. I was trying to be fair on Facebook and not tell people which two were mine (so people could vote on their real favorite), but no one liked that idea. They kept asking which were mine! Here's the link: http://photo.tutsplus.com/articles/news/memories-photography-competition-voting-round-1/ if you could go vote for your favorite! Takes a quick second, no signing up or anything. Wow! You've gotten a lot of exercising in this week. I hope your muscle soreness is better today.

Don't worry! Over time, your weight will go down. Half a pound could be from drinking a glass of water before you weighed or anything like that. Keep exercising and eating right, and you'll see progress!

Your pictures are awesome!

I think I have self-diagnosed my knee injury. I think it is Pes Anserinus Bursitis (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/308694-overview) from overuse/pushing too hard. The good news is that RICE and stretching my hamstrings will clear it up. Leg presses also help to strengthen the muscles associated with that area. I spent a while stretching my hamstrings last night, and I already feel a lot better today. I am going to go do a very easy run this morning, and then diligently ice and stretch in the coming days. Hopefully, I'll be back to normal soon!

Hope everyone has a great day!

I have stopped working out for the time being but I have to pick it up because it looks like things are gonna change for the better for us...

I hope everyone has been to succeed in their work out...

I will try to log on every day... I need the accountability on my workout... I did check out some walking dvd's and they seem pretty easy right now... I like the fact that LS not so hard to do..

Laura, the scale, she is a cruel mistress:laughing:. I weigh every day, even though I know I shouldn't. So every day is something different, and not always in the right direction. But the only day that counts for me is Sunday. But it does help to keep me "on track" during the week.

Sorry to hear you had to postpone your trip, but hopefully things will turn around and you will have even more time to get excited about going! We will hold you accountable if that is what you need. We'll hold your (virtual) hand if you need us to. We're here for you girl!!

So time for my vent. DD apparently got into a disagreement with a friend at school. They were arguing and DD called this other girl a name (a racial slur). The girl, however, is not of that race and did not seem to care that DD called her the name. A third girl (who apparently taught my daughter this word) then told the teacher that DD called the girl the name. DD was told to apologize. This was yesterday. Then today (after the state testing BTW) she was sent to the principals office. She was asked by him and the school counselor if she knew what the word meant. She said she only knew what the other girl told her, and that it was a country. So she had no idea what the word meant or its connotation. DH was then called and was informed of the incident, and told that DD would receive 1/2 day in school suspension for this infraction. DH went to pick up DD after school and met with the principal. He asked why such as harsh punishment, as it did not seem to fit the crime. Principal says its a "level 2 offense" he cannot change the ruling. We talked to her about this, she was afraid that we would punish her as well. We told her that we would not and talked about calling people names and not using words that you didn't know what they meant. DH had also asked if there was a list of words the kids were not supposed to use, principal said no there wasnt. So if she had called the girl b!+ch, no harm, no foul. Just apologize.
All this was a bit disappointing, but it is the icing on the cake for this year. We are just glad that DD is only at this school for the rest of this year, then we are off to middle school.

Sorry for the long vent, just frustrated. Time to go walk with DD on the TM.

Think of it this way the healthy wt loss is 1-2lbs per week so anything after that is a bonus. As long as you continue eating healthy and exercising it will happen. Awesome job on the run/walking! I am so glad you decided to do this.

Lauren- glad to hear the knee is getting better. Good self diagnosis.:thumbsup2

I have decided to run on the treadmill tonight since dh had to go out to the store. I am afraid to run when its getting dark outside....I think I watched to many scary movies. Im afraid I will get abducted. So its indoors tonight but saturday will be my outside run again. I am so dying to get a garmin. Any suggestions of where I can find cheaper versions or is it pretty much an expensive tool anywhere you go?

Veronica that is awful. I am a teacher and that kind of stuff happens all the time. If your dd did not understand the word then the punishment did not fit the crime. How is the girl who taught your dd being handled??? I'm upset for you so, I just can't imagine how you feel right now. The system is failing your dd.

When my ds was in first grade a girl told him to give the finger to say hi. So, when he saw her in the hall he gave her the finger and he ended up in the principal's office. He did not understand why, but the principal pulled him out of his favorite class(art) to sit in her office and think about his actions. He was soooo confused why he wasn't allowed to go to art just for saying hi to a girl in the hall.

Lindsay, we got our garmin at dick's last year. We went to get my dad one this past year for Christmas and the same one was over 1/2 the price we paid. We have a Garmin Nuvi 255 and we love it.

Thanks Laura. The other girl did not get into trouble and when I talked to DD about it, she said this girl has used the word many times. I told DD to tell the teacher should she hear her say it again.

It is unfortunate that our particular school (of the 8 elem schools in district) is the one run by the most ineffectual leader. He is not respected by the staff, parents or the kids. He is not accessible, wishy washy about most everything and if you have an issue, you have to clear EVERYTHING thru his secretary. Its sad because at the other schools, the principals are out, the kids run up and hug them, they know the kids and parents and there is open communication.

We are upset, sure, but at this point, we are just trying to finish the school year and get into the middle school, which is much better managed by a principal who cares about her students. DD will be doing her in school suspension tomorrow afternoon, so we are getting it over and done with and move on.

I agree veronica last punishment is a horrible decision. I feel so bad for dd. What a horrible way to deal with the situation.

Laura- I was referring to a garmin forerunner I think its called its a wrist watch that tells you how far you have gone, time, pace, etc. Does the garmin you got for the car do that without putting in the destination? I was going to look at mikes tom tom to see if it does and then just carry that while I run outside. I need to know how far Ive gone and how long I have ran and I need to look at it frequently to keep me going.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how they track this without fancy equipment.

My dh bought me a fitness pedometer and gave it to me as an early mothers day gift tonight. After I opened it I realized I would have to keep it closed and on my hip in order to accuratley work so this isnt what I am in need of. I thought it was so sweet of him to try to get me something I have been commenting about needing. What a thoughtful guy. If only he would splurge on the garmin watch I want.:cloud9: but we need the extra money for our vacation in july so I understand.

Sorry to hear you had to postpone your trip, but hopefully things will turn around and you will have even more time to get excited about going! We will hold you accountable if that is what you need. We'll hold your (virtual) hand if you need us to. We're here for you girl!!

Thanx girl!!!... I really do need you to hold my virtual hand and hold me accountable for my work out... I was suppose to do some today but i never got around to it.. I guess I just have to work hard at it tomorrow to make up for today's work out...

I am also sorry to hear about what happened to your dd today... the school should of not punished her for what she did especially if the girl that told her to say that word did not get in trouble...I guess that's why I home school both of my dd's... this way nothing like that will happen to my girls because our school district here stinks so badly...

www.mapmyrun.com will let you plot your runs. I have tried it a couple of times and it is not bad.

My pedometer is flat and fits in my pocket. I could never use one that fits on a belt. It would not register. I love my flat one. It fits right in my pocket. Did used to put the other type in my pocket and for the most part it did work.

Thanks everyone for your support! DD is a bit nervous about sitting in the principals office all afternoon, but she has a book to read so that should keep her occupied. Once we do this, we are finished and putting it behind us.

Mapmyrun will work out well if you can't get the Garmin. Unless you are running on unmarked paths or trails. I used to plot out the course before I went out so that I knew how far I was going ahead of time. A tip: make sure you click the "follow roads" button, it is a more accurate accounting of what you are running.

Lindsay ~Do you have an iphone? If so, there's an app! imapmyrun is the name of the app and it was free when I downloaded mine. It has a GPS in the program and it maps my runs(and is very accurate...even on the trails) and it tells me my pace, avg pace, speed and avg speed. Every mile the ladies voice comes on and tells me how far I've gone and all the other information. Then at the end you can save the workout and then it uploads it to the website...mapmyrun and I can sign on to the computer and see all of my workouts. I would LOVE to have a garmin, but it just makes more sense for me to use my iphone. Actually since I run on alot of trails it is great because I have my phone with me. I listen to my ipod on my iphone and then once I've got that running I logon to my app. The only problem I have had is that the battery doesn't last much longer than 12 miles! I have an arm strap and I just put it on my arm and go. Obviously a garmin would be cheaper if you don't have the iphone, but if you have the phone already it is by far the cheaper route.

Morning, everyone! It’s 6am here on a Saturday and I should be in bed. DD decided to sleep 8.5 hours before waking up for her midnight snack. It’s great, but I wish she would have given me a head’s up so that I wouldn’t be up 200 times to make sure she was OK. She got up at 4:15 to eat and I’ve been up ever since. Bummer. I’m gonna do some intervals today. I ran 4 miles with DHs cousin on Thursday and ended up at 40:41. I’m so close to going under that 10 minute/pace and yet I just can’t do it.

On a happy note, I lost 3.2lbs this week. To date, I’ve lost 91.4 and I’m 21.6lbs away from my goal. I was at 100lbs lost before so it’s kinda frustrating to be doing this all over (valid excuse though… I got pregnant).

Veronica – My jaw dropped when I read about your daughter. How old is she? That seems way harsh and the guy sounds like a primo jerk. Sorry to hear that.

Melinda – Sorry to hear about the hard times. I can relate all too well. Hope things get better for you. I have a hard time keeping up on here as well but it really helps me stay accountable with my running.

Lauren – I diagnosed my knee problems with the same thing! I gave myself three full days rest (ran Sunday and then not again until Thursday) and it was better. I’ve added Power Pump, a strength training class 2-3x a week too and it seems to have helped. Hope it gets better for you.

Alicia – Your running plan sounds great. I need to implement something like that. Your pictures are absolutely fabu too!

Laura – Welcome to the Incredibles if I didn’t already say so! You’re doing great on your weight loss and your runs. You have plenty of time for the Princess to get up there. I know Marathoning for Mortals recommends adding 10% every week. So if you run 30 minutes on week, run 33 the next, then 36.30 the next, etc. Also, I’m exclusively breastfeeding my daughter who will be 7 months old on Monday so I know what you’re going through. I have a BodyBugg (like on Biggest Loser) which keeps track of all my calories burned and my intake. I have a 1750 calorie allowance a day and I need to burn a minimum of 2500. I’ve been losing weight steady and my little girl is growing so it’s going great. If you can afford a Bugg, I DEFINTIELY recommend it!

Patsy – I hope you do great at your race today. It’s such a great cause. Our Komen race was last week here but I couldn’t run it. I plan on it next year.

Kathy – Congrats to your son on his first communion! That’s a very big deal! I’m glad to hear the run/walking is treating you well.

Hi girls.

Patsy- thanks for the tips but unfortunately I dont have an iphone. That does sound great. I always carry my cell with me incase I run into trouble anyway so it would really be perfect.

Jess- hang in there you are so close to your goal of a 10 min mile. Keep at it and you will get there. Congrats on the weight loss! I feel the same way I didnt loose as much as you but this time last year I was down 20lbs and now I have to loose the same 20 again plus 8 on top of that. At least you have a good excuse. Good luck on meeting your goals!:cheer2:

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been around much this week. I've had a hard time of it. On Thursday, I got LOST in Central Park (oops) and messed up my whole run. Yesterday, I had some minor surgery, and spent the day drugged up, LOL.

Hoping to take it VERY easy today, and maybe get back out there tomorrow.

Veronica,
Thanks so much for the info on that website. Its great. I did my W6D3 run today. It was suppose to be walk 5 run 25 but I modified it a little since last week I misread the plan. I also thought its easier to modify it to how I like to run and it will keep me happy.

So this is what I did walk 2, run 20, walk 3, run 5. It went so well. Here are the stats.

Lap Dist: 2.27miles Total Dist: 2.27miles
Avg. Speed: mi/hr Calories: 232(?)
Avg. Pace: 13:11min/mi Your BMI: 33.2(?)

This came from the website. Ive started a word document for myself to keep track of what I do. this was so helpful and completely inexpensive. Thanks so much again.

My quote of the day "Why walk when you can RUN!"

Have a great saturday everyone.

I'm no WW expert, trust me, but I do know it works when you follow the plan.I have done ww so many times, sometimes i feel like I am a bit of an expert, and I totally agree, it works when you follow the plan. Why is it so hard to stick to it sometimes? I started tracking yesterday, and am going to track for the next 2 weeks which is the last two weeks of the wish bl challenge. My weight is going in the wrong direction.
Sorry to hear about your daughter. It sounds so unfair. I hope she's doing ok, and like you said, it's over now, and move on.

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been around much this week. I've had a hard time of it. On Thursday, I got LOST in Central Park (oops) and messed up my whole run. Yesterday, I had some minor surgery, and spent the day drugged up, LOL.That central park is massive. We went there one day a few years ago, did the zoo, and walked and walked and we thought we had seen so much of the park, but when we looked at the map later, we hadn't seen an eighth of it. Hope everything is going ok.

On a happy note, I lost 3.2lbs this week. To date, I’ve lost 91.4 and I’m 21.6lbs away from my goal. I was at 100lbs lost before so it’s kinda frustrating to be doing this all over (valid excuse though… I got pregnant).Congratulations on your loss. That is awesome. Isn't pregnancy the only happy weight gain we know. You'll be back to 100 gone in no time. Kep up hte great work.

I think I'm worse than before I went :confused3Wow! No wonder you're sore. Hope you're doing better. You should be proud of all that exercise, and you are inspiring me.

I know when you are exercising enough to cause soreness after, that the muscles are swollen because you stretch the muscle fibers, so they swell as they heal, and that can definitely cause some weight gain. Keep doing what you're doing and the scale will follow.

I'll put a spoiler below with my two picture numbers - look if you like!
Your photos are awesome, and I just love the one of you and your fiance!! Just beautiful.

Hopefully, I'll be back to normal soon!Glad you're starting to feel better. It's hard to rest sometimes, but if you take the time to heal now, you'll be out there sooner.

Hello everyone... Sorry I have not been on for a while but life has been hard for me... we had so many things go on in our life in April that I had to drop my planning for a DW vacation in early Dec/Jan to taking it next year in Dec/Jan....:hug:Sorry things have been rough for you. I hope they turn around soon. Extra hugs on the disney vacation:grouphug:

I did some wii fit this morning, and tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so I'll get out and run/walk then. It was pouring out this morning, and I didn't have it in me to get out there.

Have a nice weekend.:)

Way to go! You are making wonderful progress. I really admire you for doing it twice, and pregnancy is definitely worth weight gain. I once knew someone who didn't want to get pregnant EVER b/c she was worried she would lose her flat stomach. I would love to have a flat stomach, but I would much rather have my kids!

Well, I went out for a slow 3 mile run this morning (my knee is MUCH better, but not 100%, so I am trying to be careful). All our local parks are still closed b/c of the flooding, so I decided to run in my neighborhod. I thought, "I don't need a marked trail because I have my Garmin!" HA! It would help if I would charge it! The battery died about 1/2 mile into the run, so I had to guess on the rest of the distance. According to mapmyrun.com, I got pretty close. I ran 3.04! Of course, I have no idea how long it took me, but that's okay. I'll get back on track next week. I am working on a Jeff Galloway training plan to improve my 5K time. I'll be on week 4 next week and hope to run my second 5K June 3.

I hope everyone has a great day. I'm off to the baseball fields!

DS and I participated in the Race for the Cure this morning here in Sacramento and there were 23,000 participants! How awesome :thumbsup2

I almost decided not to run because I still have a VERY sore calf muscle but I went ahead and ran and I got a 30:54! I improved from last years time by 15 seconds :cool1: And my DS only came in 1 minute 14 secs before me! :rotfl: And he thought he'd be waiting on me for a while! I maybe 30 years older but I can just about keep up with him. It was a GREAT run for a GREAT cause!

Aren't kids great-they either think you can do ANYTHING or you can't do ANYTHING RIGHT! LOL:lmao: My DD still doesn't get how I have run 2 half marathons, she struggled with a 5k. But I think there may come a time when she can run right by me.

I tried something new today-I had a Boca burger. I have never been a big fan of the veggie burgers, but since the beef ain't working for me, I thought I would try them. It was okay, I topped it with sauteed onion and roasted red pepper and mozzarella cheese. I definately don't feel yucky like I did last week after eating the hamburger, so this might me a good alternative for when DH and DD want burgers and I need some protein. Anyone else eat the Boca burgers? Or Morningstar? Any recommendations? I got the All American flame grilled ones.

I just finished reading The Runners Rule Book by Mark Remy. It is a quick (took me like an hour) read and is really funny. But some of the things really are true, some are weird. If you can check it out from the library, give it a read, you might just laugh out loud (I did).

Great news I talked my dh into taking me to DW for the 40th Anniversary of DW next year... we will be going Sept 2011 and will be there for DW b-day party:

On other news.. I was able to do the LS walk video's the past two days... I can't believe how easy it is... after I do the work out I feel really good... I'm gonna be sad when I have to return them to our city library... I just might have to fork out the money to get these work out video's for myself...

Have a great Mother's Day everyone. :grouphug: to those who have lost their mothers in the last few years.

I am leaving in a little while to visit mine. My mother is helping her church group have a bake sale. She is not working the 10 am mass so I am going to go to 8 am mass with her and after going to breakfast with her, my dad and my sister. It was also my parent's 56th anniversary yesterday but I know my mom and sister were too busy baking to go up and visit. Then I will come home and relax. Dh is going to church at our church with ds2 (who came home from college yesterday for a week) and then they are going to see dh's mom and mow her lawn. Ds's are going to see Iron Man this afternoon and then I have to decide to what we are going to do for dinner. It may be as simple as subs from a local sub shop.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all our INCREDIBLE moms!!!

I gave myself today off from running, the weather here is just yucko. Bitter cold and very windy. Slept in, enjoying a nice cup of coffee and relaxing. Nothing exciting on the agenda today, we may go to Lowes and look at some stuff for some landscaping out front of the house.

40th Anniversary of WDW, hmmm, we were there for the 25th anny (it was our honeymoon). Doubt that I can get DH to spring for a trip until later in 2012, but that would be our 15th anniversary so fingers crossed.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Just a quick hello and Happy Mother's day to all our mothers here. Hope you all are having a nice day.

Made my son go out for a walk/run this morning, and it was fun. I actually ran more than he did, but we did a few little sprint/races, and I kept up pretty good. He gave me a little magazine he made in school that said I am mother of the year, and several times in it he referred to my being athletic, and running. One page was world records i had broken, and he said I ran 4 miles in 30 minutes. It was pretty cute, and I was happy to see he notices I'm moving more, and hopefully he won't ever have to battle the weight like I do, if he grows up with a healthy lifestyle.

Have a great night.

I have been working like crazy so, I am just catching up. My parent's own greenhouses and specialize in hanging baskets for mother's day. I did fit in a run Mother's Day morning at 5:45 am before 8:00 church:yay:. I did 2 1/2 miles in 35 minutes and it was against the wind. (haha that reminded me of that song, I was runnin' against the wind).

Because I'm going to have a girl's weekend with my mom for the princess 1/2 in March my dh and I want to take the family in November for the 40th celebration. I don't know if we should go the week before dd turns 2 so, we don't have to pay for air travel for her or if we should go on her birthday(especially since she shares it with the main mouse). So much to think about, but who doesn't want to think and dream of planning a disney trip?

I hope everyone had an incredible Mother's Day!!!

Great job on getting the run in Laura! :thumbsup2 Now thats some motivation. And I think we are right around the same speed so hopefully we can continue on the same path and run together. It will be awesome to complete this with a great friend by my side. Hope you had a great mother's day!

Hope everyone is having a great start to their week. I stepped on the scale today for my weekly weigh in....wasnt sure what it was going to be like since the past few days I felt I didnt make the greatest choices but to my surprise it was good.

Good morning Incredibles!!

Hope everyone is doing well. After 3 days off, I was back to running this morning. Due to the cold weather, I decided to to intervals on the treadmill this morning. Felt really good, not too easy but not too hard either. May have to bump up the speed again!!

The drama with DD is not over-apparently the girl who started the whole thing is now bullying her-following her around at recess and harassing her. DD says she whispers the word all the time and laughs and has gotten other kids involved in this. I have sent a letter to the principal, school counselor and teacher today. Tonight is middle school orientation, and I am hoping that seeing how different MS works will buck DD up a bit. I hate that she is feeling down about school, since it is her last 6 weeks of 5th grade.

Still trying to decide on next years vacation-DH and I are wanting to book a cruise, but since it is not the cruise we originally were going to do, we are waiting for our friends to decide if they are going or not. It is getting frustrating, since I want a specific cabin and want to book before the prices go up. And until I get this settled, I really can't focus on the Disneyland trip in September. Oh and next week I start officially training, so I gotta get going on these plans!!

Have a good day friends!

Way to go, Veronica! A cruise and/or Disneyland sounds really good.

I ran again yesterday after three days off... did the short loop - 3.5 miles, in 39:21. Not bad. I love cold weather! :wizard:

Veronica- a cruise and disneyland all in one year sounds wonderful. I hope the plans work out for you and you get what you want at the right price.

Great job on doing the running. Its been colder here too but I decided I would just run outside. It will get me ready for the 1/2 just incase it is a cold morning. I figure the same with the summer runs here. Either way I hope it will prepare me to handle whatever the weather may bring.

Im so sorry your dd is going through a rough time at school. Kids can be so cruel. At least its almost over and next year hopefully she will find a good group of friends at the new school. I hope shes doing ok.

Amy- good job on the run. It must be nice to have central park to run around. well except for when you get lost. Keep up the good work:thumbsup2

Hope everyone elses week is going well. I am staying on target with my diet and running. I ran last night in the rain and it was about 58 degrees. I really didnt mind it until I got home and cooled down, then I felt chilled all night. I did run 23 min. straight which is 3min longer than last weeks runs. My interval was walk3, run23, walk2, run2 =30min. I did 2.27miles. This was the same time/distance as last run but I guess it has to do with still incorportating the walking. Im might cut out some of the walking next run I feel once I stop and walk its hard to get in a grove again. Will see. Anyone else feel the same way?

PrincessMama22
05-12-2010, 08:38 PM
Amy great job. 3.5 miles in under 40 minutes is great!!!

Veronica, I hear you. I hate waiting to book something once I know what I want in case I can't get exactly what I want.

Lindsay, running in rain. WTG, you!!! Today when I jogged I just kept jogging cause I know when I stop the intervals of jogging become smaller and smaller. I just walked twice near the end. It is definately easier to get back to the jog on a downhill rather than an uphill.

Well for me the training program has been going well. It is the eating program that is not going well. I have been working hard and my mom bought macaroni salad and potato chips for lunch(don't ask it is a weakness I love to dip the chips in the macaroni salad). She even finished it off by serving cupcakes that looked like a flower. I have had that two days in a row for lunch. Yikes:scared1: The scale has been staying even. We will see tomorrow though.

Keep up the good work girls!!!!

Well, I did speed intervals for the first time today. It was tough! I am following a Jeff Galloway plan to reduce my 5K time. I did 4x400 at about 9:15min/mile pace. I was only supposed to walk about 200 in between each interval, but I allowed myself to walk 400 instead. Next week, I am supposed to do 5x400, but I may do the 4 again with shorter walk breaks. I am hoping to do my second 5K either the first or second Saturday in June. Hopefully, my son's baseball tournament schedule will cooperate one of those days!

Hope everyone is having an Incredible Thursday!

It really is amazing. Tonight I realized that running is not so bad and I think I even enjoyed it. I ran 30 minutes straight. 1st time ever, well maybe not ever but at least since I stopped playing sports in high school. It felt so great. I probably could have pushed myself to keep going but didnt want to over do it. I completed 2.38miles in 30 minutes. It honestly felt so good. I think I finally beleive that I can reach my goal of running a 1/2. My new plan is to drop the C25K. I realized that walking just makes it feel harder on me. So what I will do is each run increase my time little by little. Once I reach 3-4 mile runs. 4-5X per week I will start to follow one of the marathon plan books. Which I still need to get. Thinking about getting Marathon's for mortals. Any suggestions. I also notice that by the end of these runs I am dying for water. Is there anything wrong with carrying water on runs less than or equal to 3miles. Should I continue to try it without? Any suggestions would be helpful. Hope you all are enjoying your week, its almost over

Welcome to the insanity that is running!! Good for you on your run! You are doing a great job.

I recommend Marathoning for Mortals, John Bingham is great. You will find a plan in there to follow for your training.

On the water, take it if you need it. Nothing wrong with that. I don't usually take it on short runs, but I do drink a bit when I get back. Do what you need to do for yourself, whatever makes you feel good.

Hope everyone else is doing well too. Me, I did incline walk on the mill this morning as it was very, very (record) cold out. Next run is Saturday, then Sunday I am out for 7 miles. Tuesday is the "official" start of training. Looking forward to it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with carrying water ever, especially now that it's nicer and warmer outside. I'd suggest getting those little bottles of water, so it's not too heavy, and you can fill them up at fountains. Or go onto Amazon and get a race belt.

Happy Friday Incredibles!

Friday's are my day off and I usually get to fit in a nice easy run but it didn't happen this morning. I get to spend an entire day at a pool...watching my son's teammates swim at sections. This is the BIG meet....schools from all over our region are here. Unfortunately for me my son is only swimming in a relay that is towards the end of the meet and he is only 1 leg of the 200 free relay. What does all of this mean?...well it means I drove 1 hour, paid $7 to get in...will be here ALL day to watch a 25 second swim! BUT...even though it probably sounds like I am complaining I'm really not....I LOVE watching my boys in their sports. And today will be my seniors final swim...unless by some miracle his relay team makes finals. This is a SUPER tough competition....a 25second 50 free didn't even qualify!

Anyway, enough about my day...sounds like everyone is doing Incredible on their runs and weight loss!

Veronica I'd love to know what your training schedule is for the DL 1/2. I got my son signed up and I told him we are 16 weeks out and need to start training. It is going to be hard to fit training time in for him because he plays alot of water polo through the week, but I Think we are going to start out at 3 miles for our weekend long runs and build from there. He probably won't need the speed training during the week.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Patsy, I have 2 different ones- the one I used for my first 2 halfs, which is strictly a mileage program. The new one I am using is mileage with tempo runs and running at race pace. If you would like, I can email them both to you (I have them in Excel, with the dates and everything for the leadup to the DL 1/2). Just PM me your email address if you want me to send them.

HI everyone! Where the heck did the week go?? Sorry I haven't been on here much. I went for a 5.5 mile run on a new trail by my parents' house on Sunday. My time was HORRIBLE! It was 1:01.47 when exactly a week prior to that I ran six miles at 1:02.34. I was pretty disappointed but at the same time, I ate like a pig all day and I ended up either pulling or tearing my calf muscle. I could hardly walk afterward. I was gonna run 5K yesterday but only got 1.8 miles before I got called to the babysitting room at the Y. I'll try again this weekend.

I'll try and be around more this weekend.

Hey jess. Sorry to hear about your calf I hope it feels better soon. Dont worry about the time at least you did it. I totally see a difference in how I feel depending on what I eat too. You will have those days.

I had dinner tonight at TGI fridays with my 2 coworkers. They were the type of people who encourage you to forget about dieting. they kept harping on me to eat eat eat. So I think I caved in to the pressure and ate more than I needed to. We had spinach artichoke dip which I told myself I would only have a couple chips with it on but it ended up being more than a couple. Otherwise I had grilled chicken breast and shrimp. I totally feel over full and bloated. Yay well tomorrows a new day.

Hope you all have a great weekend. I am so looking forward to it.

Done! Finished somewhere between 1:07 and 1:08 (still waiting on final results). The second we started running, I got a bad cramp, and walked quite a bit of the first mile. Once I worked it out (mostly in my head, LOL), I just ran. Dumped a cup of cold water on my head at mile 4, and never looked back! :cutie:

Hi everyone! I'm starting to get back to a normal life. The good news is that our semester has offically ended although I do have end-of-semester reports to do before the summer break. The bad news is that I won't have a full-time teaching job next year.

Long story short - I've just been filling a vacant faculty position (for 5 years) in our department until the position can be filled with someone with the right background to fill it - PhD, discipline, experience, etc. In order for our dept. to be accredited, we have to have someone with the right credentials hired by the fall semester. We've had several good candidates apply so that shouldn't be a problem.

I knew this was coming but it still stinks! My dept. head has been fighting tooth and nails to get me hired on permanently but with the budget cuts all across the state for higher education and a hiring freeze (except for money already appropriated), it just ain't gonna happen this year. I'm still going to teach but on an adjunct basis - making far less than what I do now. Bummer!

On a fitness level, I worked out with my personal trainer yesterday. She's not cutting me any slack. We did lots of lunges and squats. I'm feeling it today....espcially at graduation this morning. We kept having to stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down, etc. It was torture.

I haven't been walking/running much lately but I have been riding my bike some. Now that I'm out of school, I'll get back to into my groove. I see Veronica is going to start her DL training next week. I guess I will too. I'll just base my training on what Veronica does. :teeth:

Hope everyone has a GREAT incredible week.

VernRDH
05-15-2010, 03:56 PM
Susie, don't base what you do on me:upsidedow. If anyone else wants I can send out my two training plans if you want to see them or use them.

Yes I start on Tuesday, 16 weeks to go!!! I am so excited. I am planning to PR at DL, so that is going to make this race even better.

Did 3 miles this morning, never found my groove or got into a rhythm. Still did it in 31:27, so 10:32 pace. Tomorrow is long and slow 7 miles.

Food and diet has been horrible, I do not wish to speak of it at this time.:headache::rolleyes1 Nose to the grindstone tomorrow.

Good morning Incredibles!! I feel like I haven't checked in here in ages, and it was a whole week. I've been trying really hard to get my eating under control, and for the past week, I did track every bite and follow ww again, and was down 3.6 for the week, though I was up 3 last week, so I'm happy. I've got out 3 times to run/walk this week, 2, 3, and friday I did 5 miles. I definitely feel better and have more stamina doing the run/walk. For the 5 miles, the first 1/3 I walked, and then I ran 2 min, walked 1 for prob 1.5 miles, and then ran 4 walked 2min for the rest til the last half i just walked. It felt good, and I averaged about 16min/mile. I like the idea of doing 2 shorter days, and one longer run each week. I might try to follow one of the Marthoning for Mortals plans. I found with the c25k it was nice to have those 3 days a week that my plan was set, and I was so good about getting them in.

Veronica- good luck on your 7 miles today. It is beautiful here in MA today, so hope it's the same in NY. :hug:on the food. We all have those days, and today is a new day to start fresh. Good luck with your DL plan.

Susie- Sorry to hear about the job, but you never know. Maybe things will change over the summer. It must be really motivating to have a personal trainer. I took a body sculpting class with a friend this week, and those squats are soooo fun!

Amy-:cool1:Congratulations on your race!!! Awesome time!!:thumbsup2

Jess- hope your calf is feeling better. Everyone has those down days. Hope things are better now.

Patsy- Hope you enjoyed your son's final swim meet. I just love watching my son play sports. He's 8 and at baseball yesterday one of the dad's was complaining about how boring it was, and I was thinking how fun it was. :rotfl:

Keep up the great work everyone. Have an Incredible week!!

Hi everyone.

Congrats to the great race times.

I have been struggling this week. Ds2 was home from college for the week. We took him back this morning so he can start to work on campus for one of his profs. It is going to be strange not having him here at home but it is an opportunity he could not pass up. I am worried because he doesn't know his roommates but 2 of them are only staying for 5 weeks. As long as he could go to his room to watch his videos or goes out to see his gf or other friends who live in the area he should be okay.

Have a great week everyone.

Susie~ sorry to hear about the job situation...hopefully things will work out for you.

So, went on a 3 mile run yesterday...I usually do a longer run on Saturday's but my 20yr old nephew from Tennessee is out here in Cali for the summer and he said to me he wants to "train" with me.....boy is he going to regret saying that! :rotfl: I started off easy with him...3 miles, but I told him next week we are jumping up to 5! I've got to figure out how we are going to fit in the training for the 1/2 marathon in my son's busy schedule. He plays waterpolo and practices usually on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday....I like to do my long runs on Saturday. Guess I may have to move the long run to Sunday's before church. He's young and in shape so he'll be able to handle it better than me!

Next two weeks are going to be super busy for me so I just hope I can continue fitting in some running and training. My older son graduates from High School on May 28th so there is a lot to be done and hopefully I can hold it together....graduation is going to be bittersweet.

Have a GREAT Monday!

Good morning, everyone! I've been trying to get back into running after my calf injury. I did 1.8 last Thursday but had to stop becasue I got paged to the baby-sitting room. I did a practice 5K on Sunday and my time was 32:16. I have an official 5K on Sunday... I was hoping to get under 30 but not sure I can do it. I was gonna do 3-4 miles yesterday but at exactly 1 mile in, I got paged again because DS had his first potty accident in like 3 months. ::sigh:: Today's usually my lazy day but I'm thinking of doing some intervals.

mommyof2pirates - congrats on your weight loss! That's fantastic! I don't care when the princess half is.. .i still plan on going (as long as they modify my stinkin' mortgage!)

Mickey#1Fan - Congrats on your son graduating! That's a huge deal and I can imagine very bittersweet. I know what you mean about scheduling in those runs. Being a single parent 5 days a week makes it hard for me too.

Donac - I hope your son does well. I'm sure he will. Hang in there, momma. I'm sure it's rough to adjust.

mikamah - Hurray on the weight loss and the great runs this last week! You're doing great!

Sorry about everyone I missed. I have a client I need to meet with here at work.

I am disappointed that they changed the Princess dates, but I will still go. I was hoping to catch some of the Flower and Garden Festival b/c I have never been there for that.

My husband got called out of the blue today for a job in Florida. We LOVE where we live, so I doubt we will move, but he is going to talk to them. I've told him Flordia is one of the only places I would want to move to because I hate being cold! I guess Disney World would be an excellent selling point for the kids (and I wouldn't mind that either--then I could definitely visit during Flower and Garden). But, my husband and I have lived in Middle Tennessee our entire lives, so it will have to be his dream job to convince us to go!

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Hi Incredibles!!!

I didn't realize I hadn't checked in for a while-life is just sooo busy here.

Today was the "official" start of training for the DL 1/2. Ran 3 miles in 31:49, 10:36 pace. Per the calculator, at that pace I will finish the half in 2:18:thumbsup2 I ran comfortably, did not push the pace.

I realized I haven't done a quote in a while, here is one I heard this morning:

"Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon"

Keep reaching, keep striving, there is no limit to where you can go or what you can achieve!

Jess- Glad your getting over your injury. Just do your best and even getting close to 30 is a great time. You will get there! Keep pushing and tell that little one of yours to hold it next time. :lmao: Just kidding. I feel like I am constantly in the bathroom with my guys anywhere we go. Dont you just love how the accidents come at the greatest moments, its like they know just when your trying to do something for yourself.

Lauren- Living in FL....ahhhh that would be a dream. I would have a hard time leaving too since I have lived in the same area all my life. I can understand the feeling. Well hopefully it is the dream job your dh is wanting. that would be great. I hear ya about missing the F&G festival. I am so bummed. Its only a weeks difference so not a biggie. Usually I would be happy about going to disney a week sooner. Either way I will be there with bells on:thumbsup2

Veronica- Awesome run times. Good luck with the training. I love the quote. You always have the most motivational quotes to share. I love it.:lovestruc

Hope everyone else is doing good too. I just got back from an awesome run tonight. Increased my time 10% from last week to 35 mins. I made it 2.89 miles, ran the entire thing even up the big hill I usually walk. I felt sooooo good I could have kept going but I am sticking to the plan. Did I mention it is 50 and raining. Yes I swear I am the only wierdo who enjoys running in the cold rain. I do so much better. By the way can anyone recommend a specific waist belt/water holder that they like. something small, light and easy to use?

Lindsay-great job on the running and weight loss! You rock girlfriend!!:thumbsup2

Jess-sorry about the interrupted running. I did not start running until my DD was 7 or 8 yo, and I have been lucky enough to be able to schedule it around her and DH's schedule.

Lauren- job in FL, closer to the mouse, wow!! That would be cool.

Patsy-congrats to your DS on graduation! I understand you will be busy and overwhelmed. Hope you got my email okay.

Dona- hope your DS has a good summer at school. Its hard to send them off when you are used to them being home, but what a great opportunity for him.

I forgot to give a BIG:thumbsup2 to Amy for her 10k time. Awesome job girl!!

Susie-good luck with the job. Too bad you couldn't keep on but hopefully something even better comes your way.

Kathy-great work on the running! Spring is finally coming here to the Northeast, looking forward to more runs outside than in!

So for me, today was day 2 of training, ran intervals on the mill due to the yucky weather. 1 min @7.5 mph then 1 min @4mph. 3 miles in 31:17, 10:25 avg pace. My legs are feeling it a bit now, but its all good.

Also, a big :thumbsup2 for the new Orchard Chicken Salad from Subway. Just had it for lunch, YUMM-O. And only 7 pts for the 6 in. And even better, one of my patients is the DM and was there, so he bought me lunch (he happens to have an appointment tomorrow too). Today is shaping up nicely, despite the weather.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I feel on top of the world today! I accomplished so many things:
1. Surpassed 100 miles run for the year (100.5 to be exact)
2. Ran distance of 6.5 miles for the first time today (time: 1:09.04)
3. My one mile split was under 10 minutes!
4. Shaved like 50 seconds off my 5K time (31.52)
 I AM DAMN AWESOME!!!!

Oh yeah, kudos and kisses to my babies for cooperating in the baby-sitting room the entire time.:love:

Veronica, I hear ya about the weather I am off the next 4 days and am so glad its back to the high 70's, low 80's. I have so much yard work to do so it will be nice. I will have to try the new sub. I have seen the advertisement a few times now and wondered how it is. Thanks for the report!

Keep up the good work with the training. You are doing awesome. :cheer2:

Jess ~ It's been said but I'll say it again.....Incredible Job!!!!! Congratulations on a run well done!

Veronica ~ I did get your email....thank you very much! I modified it slightly to fit in my strength training that I am going to try and do on Wednesday's and Friday's. I guess I'll see if it is going to be too much. If so I'll drop strength training to just Wednesdays.

Lauren ~ Florida.....how cool! I wish my husband would get an offer of a job in Florida.....I'd be there before he could blink! Actually I'm just dreaming of the day we can move back to the south...Middle TN, Florida, Alabama.....any of those would be just fine with me!

So in 1 week my parents will be here for my son's graduation. We've lived here for 5 years and this is the 1st time my parents have been out. Yes....you read that correctly....1st time in 5 years! I have tons to do....but very excited that they have finally decided to come for a visit. We'll see how it goes though....could be interesting ;)

Happy running everyone and have an INCREDIBLE Thursday! So excited because it is my Friday! :cool1:

I cannot wait till this month is over and I can get back to training properly. My family has greenhouses and I have been working constantly. I was down on the scale today which was great, but ended up having fast food after my ds's baseball game. I think I need to make more slow cooker meals on days when he has a game.

Everyone seems to be doing soo well. I feel like I am just viewing your progress from the outside of a fishbowl. Well, congrats ladies on all of the incredible successes this week!!!!

Happy Saturday All!

I don't know what is up with the weather here in Cali....it is 37* this morning and it is the end of May! Headed out for a 4 mile run this morning even though it is soooo cold!....my son and nephew are going with me so this should prove interesting since they are young boys and I'm an old woman!
I'm a bit sore from all my activities this week. Besides running I've been to 2 strength training classes and played a softball game Thursday night....1st time in over 5 years I've done that! But I'm hoping an easy paced run will work the soreness out. Guess we'll see. I hope everyone is having a GREAT day!

Hi girls. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Patsy- hope the run went well with the youngin's. Show them what cha got :thumbsup2

Laura- hang in there the month is almost over. Hopefully it will get a little easier for you. Planning the meals is the key, especially with a busy schedule. If you think about it you will find lots of things to make that are quick and easy on busy nights. You can do it!

As for me I am really enjoying the past few days. Dh and I had off together and we did tons of yard/house work, had a yard sale to earn extra vacation money :goodvibes, and we took our boys to see the new shrek movie last night. Is been a lot of fun but boy am I tired. I suppose that could be why I felt like crap during my run today. I completed my 35 min run just .06miles short of my last 2 but considering I felt like I was running with bricks on my feet and a 50lb back pack on my back I guess thats not too bad. I guess I will have these days, but when I do it just really sucks.

Anyway I am off to enjoy this "Incredible weekend".

I did it! Wow, that's a great feeling! I finished my first 5K today, the unofficial time was 31:20. I'm sure my time was better than that but even if that was my official time, it would have been my best. I know my first mile was unofficially 9:46. I started out close to the front and felt like a dunce when everyone kept passing me but later they were dropping like flies. I was just so proud of myself. Can't wait to see my final time. I still think I could have been better but it's 90 degrees today. Whatever, I'm proud of myself... my "unofficial" pace is 10:05.11

Jess- Great Job!!!

Despite my lack of traing and eating I was down 2 pounds on the scale this morning!!! I did fit in a little run this afternoon. My dd is sick and once I got her down for a little nap my dh held her till I came back. I cut it short and did about 2.5 miles and my time was not as great as I would have liked, but since I did not run at all last week I was just happy to get back in the swing of things.

My new goal is to not allow another whole week go by without running. I found I feel great if I run every two to three days, but when a week goes by it is harder to get out there.

Thanks everyone. You keep me inspired.

Laura - Congrats on the 2lbs down! That is awesome! And I know what you mean about missing a week of exercising and how hard it is to get back into the swing....I hate it when I do that.

This has been a very productive weekend around our house. My parents are flying in on Wednesday for my son's graduation on Friday so my DH painted a room, cleaned the fish tank and cleaned up the garage....and that is just a few of the chores that got accomplished. I love it when we have family or friends come out for a visit....my house gets some much needed deep cleaning :lmao: I did take some time yesterday morning to get in a 4 mile run and it felt great! I'm hoping that getting back into some strength training is helping....it can't hurt!

Hope everyone has an incredible week! This is going to be a sad :sad1: but happy :) week for me.....I'm so very proud of my son and how he's grown into the young adult he is.....but so sad that one of my babies will be leaving the nest...

Have an INCREDIBLE last week of May! :flower3:

Laura- great job on fitting the run in especially with the little one being sick. It doesnt matter how fast it was at least you did it! :thumbsup2 I am still upset about all the quesadillas I ate last night:guilty: I am dreading weigh in day tomorrow, its the first time since starting WW that I am not feeling so positive about what it might show. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised. Good job on the 2 lbs down....especially after those special dessert quesadilla's your wonderful dh made.:lmao: Keep up the good work and I hope dd is feeling better soon.

Patsy- I love when we are having guests too because the house does get some good TLC. How exciting of a week you have ahead of you. I can imagine that it is bitter sweet. I dread the day my boys leave and go to college. Although I do have a long while for that considering my oldest is just starting kindergarten this year. I hope you enjoy your week and great job on getting the run in.

Hello my Incredible friends!!

Hope everyone is have a great Monday-it is warm and sunny here in NY, a beautiful day today. My pool is filling, hoping to have it up and running later tonight/tomorrow.

Tomorrow starts week 2 of training, I am really looking forward to it. At this point, I am looking at an estimated finish time for DL of 2:20, hopefully it will be closer to 2:10.

On the food front, I had something AWESOME tonight. The Morningstar original Garden Veggie Pattie, OMG sooo good! On a sandwich thin with some guacamole, it was a perfect dinner. DD is eating the Boca burgers, she really likes them. Now if only I could get DH to try one........:lmao:

I started my C25K over again this week. Last week I just walked but today I stared running again. I guess I was ready because I got done in 23 minutes the 1.6 miles that I usually did in 30. Great job on the training. Glad you found a "burger" you like. My dh would not go near any of that stuff either. Men:confused:

Lisa- Wow what a great time improvement. Keep up the good work. you will definitely not get swept during the princess if you keep that up!

As for me today was my weigh in day. Wt loss of .8lbs this week. At least its something. I have posted my starting pic and my current pic on my journal page if anyone is interested in following me along my journey. I have a total wt loss of 10lbs in 4 weeks. :woohoo: I am thrilled and am already working harder to loose more this week. Increase my time by 10% again so this weeks runs are 38 minutes. Today made it exactly 3.1 miles. I cut my

Good morning, everyone! I’m still waiting for my official time from the race. How long does it take for these things to post! I mean, there was like only 400 participants between the 5k and 1M family fun walk. Anyway, I did 2.5 miles yesterday in 24:14… feeling pretty good about that one! I usually take today off so I think I’ll just take the kiddos for a walk, if it doesn’t get too hot again. If I stay at home, I’ll just eat.

So I’m really excited. I have a light at the end of the tunnel with my job. Me and DH and my parents talked and I’m quitting this at the end of June. I transcribe from home but with the babies needing my attention, it’s hard to make a lot of money doing it so my mom’s gonna come out twice a week so I can knock some serious work out. Now, how do I tell the job that I’ve been at for five years now!?!

Mommyof2pirates – Congrats on 10lbs in a month, that’s just huge! And 4 minutes off your time is INCREDIBLE! You have so much to be proud of!!!

Lisah0711- Sounds like you did very well with your C25K run… keep it up, m’dear! You’re doing just awesome!

Vern – Oh my gosh, 2:20 or 2:10 sounds absolutely awesome! Can I ask what your average pace is? And what training program are you using?

Patsy – Wow, you guys really did get a lot of work done! Enjoy your son’s graduation. I’m sure it’ll be really bittersweet but you must be one proud momma!

Laura - Congrats on your 2lb loss the other day. Have you managed to get in another run? Remember, don’t let a week go by without getting a run in! You need that time for you!

Jess, depending on the day and type of run, my pace is usually around 10:20-10:30. This mornings avg was 10:07. And I felt good, not wiped out. As I train and continue to lose weight, it gets easier and I can increase my speed. Plus those speed/interval workouts are helping a lot.

My training plan currently is one my friend in CA gave to me-16 weeks long, 5 days of running each week. One run is a tempo (faster pace), one run is long and slow and one is at race pace. The other two can be just running, or hill or interval workouts. I like to do my intervals on the mill, so I tend to do those on days when I am stuck inside due to weather. But they can be done outside. If you want to see the training plan, pm me your email and I will send it to you. I also have another training plan, the one I used for WDW 2010, it is strictly a mileage based plan, no tempo or race pace runs. It works too.

Have a great Tuesday friends, I am hoping we can get in the pool tonight when we get home as it is supposed to be 90 today!!:cool2:

Jess- the races usually post the results within 24 hours. Not sure whats going on with yours. Some races are more official than others.:confused3 Have fun on your leisure day today. I hear ya about the needing to get out to avoid eating!

Veronica- a dip in the pool sounds lovely, we are hitting 90 today too. I am so envious. Have fun!

I am already freaking out because my next run is tomorrow and the forecast is sunny and 90. I have to run around 530pm since my dh has a softball game at 8. :scared: This should be interesting!

Hi Incredibles!

Although school has ended for the semester, I seem to be as busy as ever...but not as stressed. :thumbsup2

I've been very bad in that I have not done any walking or running in a while. I've got to get on the ball. I'm going to try to walk 4 miles this evening - in the hot temps. Ugh! Although I haven't been walking/running, I am riding my bike more and I'm meeting with a personal trainer once a week so I am keeping up with the exercising. Have I mentioned that I have a half-marathon coming up next weekend (1st weekend in June)? You'd think I would be training a bit better for this. :sad2:

This is one of the problems of scheduling so many half-marathons in one year. I get burned out from all the training. I end up not training like I should and open myself up for injuries. However, I will say - biking is definitely a great XT exercise. It really helps me to complete the half and full marathons. I can actually cut a long run or two out of my training by riding long distances.

Now, I don't recommend cutting out long runs for those of you training for a half or full...especially your first. You NEED those long runs (and short runs) to build up endurance and speed. However, if you have several half marathons planned within a fairly short time frame, you can get by doing some other type of endurance exercise. This also works if you are injured and need to lay of the feet for a while. Swimming is another great XT exercise. I'd like to hear what type of XT exercises you all do.

Now, I need to go back and read through the posts to see how everyone's doing. I see we have some new members here. :welcome:

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Life is crazy, y'know? :)

Since my first 10k, I had a REALLY hard time running the same distance for a few weeks, but seem to be back in the groove of 6 miles now. I may attempt to add a mile this weekend, seeing as the Wine & Dine is coming perilously close on the calendar!

Hello, Incredibles! I returned home last night from 6 days in Clearwater Beach. We had a wonderful time. I got to do a 4 mile run along the Causeway, and it was beautiful (but very, very HOT)! I know I should've run on the beach, but I didn't want to be cleaning sand out of my shoes for the next three months! We visited the Lowry Park Zoo, Great Explorations Childrens' Museum, Adventure Island (Busch Garden's water park), the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and Captain Memo's Pirate Ship. Of course, we spent plenty of time swimming as well. Unfortunately, my 5yo daughter got sand in her eye the first night, and it took days for her eye to recover, so we spent most of our time in the pool.

As far as running goes, I now have my kids home for the summer, so I am going to have to be diligent about getting my runs in. I am not sure how that will all play out, but I am determined to make it work. I am hoping to do my second 5K on June 5th, but I have to wait and see if my son's baseball tournament schedule for that weekend will cooperate. He has tournaments every weekend until the end of July, so that will add some challenges to my running schedule as well!

I missed a lot while I was gone...

I did it! Wow, that's a great feeling! I finished my first 5K today, the unofficial time was 31:20. I'm sure my time was better than that but even if that was my official time, it would have been my best. I know my first mile was unofficially 9:46. Congrats on the weight loss! I have lost about 5 pounds in the last month or so, but I am sure I gained some back on vacation (I haven't checked yet). I would like to lose at least 8 more, so I am going to have to get with the program now that I am home!

This has been a very productive weekend around our house. My parents are flying in on Wednesday for my son's graduation on Friday so my DH painted a room, cleaned the fish tank and cleaned up the garage....and that is just a few of the chores that got accomplished. How fun and sad at the same time. Those transition times are so bittersweet. My youngest starts K this fall, and I was sad at her preschool graduation. I can only imagine that it will become much, much more emotional as they get older!

As for me today was my weigh in day. Wt loss of .8lbs this week. At least its something. Lauren-sounds like you had a blast in clearwater! I agree with running on the beach I cant imagine its as much fun as it sounds. The ocean air might have felt good though. Glad to hear so far the running is going and Im sure with your determination you will be able to keep it going.

We are just finishing up baseball season and my dh plays softball 2-3 nights a week so hopefully once all that is over it will become easier. My son will be starting kindergarten in the fall too. I was disappointed his PreK does not do a "graduation", but then I thought it will save me a night of tears. Those things get me so emotional even when I dont really know the kids so with my own Im sure I would be a blubbering mess. I hope I dont break down as Im dropping him off on his first day of school. :rotfl2:

Hope everyone else is doing well. Its been hot the past few days. I skipped my run last night it was 95 degrees and so humid. I was planning on getting up early this morning but I couldnt pull myself out of bed. Tonight my ds has a baseball game and I have to work the snack stand. Hopefully I will get out in enough time to run. (they are also calling for severe thunderstorms) hopefully I can get my last run in before my 5K race on sat. Eating has been going well. I am following WW points perfectly. The scale isnt moving too fast anymore but I know I shouldnt weigh myself daily either. I am just trusting in my new lifestyle of eating and my running and hopefully good things will continue to happen. :goodvibes

Well, it has been a very trying week. DD has been sicker than we thought so, I have been running it's just to the dr. everyday with her. Actually, I have managed a 2 mile run and a 1 mile run followed with 40 min. on the eliptical(cause it started thundering and lightning I came inside) so far this week. I really want to increase my time. 2 weeks ago I was going a lot longer. I think it is so much harder in the heat. I am going to have to keep that in mind as I train and it is cold here in PA in Feb. then I will be going to run in FL. I'll have to think how I want to approach this. Any ideas on how you train in a different climate???

Lindsay, good luck on Saturday!!! I'm sure you are going to do great!

Laura: I thought the same thing with the weather, right now we will get used to the warmth, then we will get used to the cold, but what happens if we get to disney and its hot....it will be a shock! I dont know if there is any good way to prepare for that but Im willing to hear any suggestions!

I am soon heading to bed to get a good night sleep before my 5K race in the morning. It starts at 815 and the forecast is mostly sunny high of 76. Hopefully we get the run in before the sun really starts to get hot. I am excited to see how well I do, my last run I completed 3.1 miles in 38. Hoping since its a race I can at least make it in 37:59 .

I started the biggest loser challenge today on the wish boards and another diser had bought a headband that said "slow is the new fast":lmao: I so need to get that!

All that matters is that I am finishing! the sad part about this race is they dont give out medals.:sad1: So all I have to show for it is a long sleeve cotton tshirt, a cloth grocery bag, and a water bottle.

I hope you all have an incredible holiday weekend!

Lindsay good luck on your race today.

Been very busy this week with a retirement party for people at my school. One special one was someone I have taught with for 33 years. I was given the honor of speaking about him. After that amount of time it was very emotional. My dh thought I would start crying but I made it through without crying. It was a great night but too much drama about presents, presentations and when and where these things could be given out. They were planning not to give any speeches or give out any gifts. I have never been to a retirement party without these things. I am glad this is over and we were able to do what we wanted to do.

Have a great weekend. I am off to celebrate my birthday. My dh is up but I don't think I am going to get my present until ds's are up because they all went in on the gift together.

Lindsay, hope your race was spectacular and incredible!

Yesterday, I woke up at 6am (!) and ran 2.5 miles in the park, before walking home, another 3 miles or so. While I had a very good time, 6am is NOT for me. What time of day do you all like to run?

During the week, I have been running about 9:00 (which is going to be very HOT and HUMID now that summer is here). On the weekend, I run about 7AM. I do like to exercise in the morning --by the time evening arrives I have no energy left--but these times are also tied to when I can fit running in with my kids' schedules. My husband travels a lot during the week, so I rely on childcare at the Y. On the weekend, I have to get going before ballgames and other activities.

I am an early bird-during the week (tues, weds, thurs,) I am out by 5:30 am. On Sat and Sun, usually 6-6:30am. If I have a really long run, I may even go out before 6am. I try to make my running as low impact on my family time as possible, so I get out early. And I have been doing it for so long that I find running any other time of day to be hard. I try to pick races that start no later than 9am. Evening runs, forget it, can't do it.

Let me chime in on timing. As a mother of 2 boys it was easier to work out at 4:30 in the morning and leave the afternoon for the boys activities. I am still an early bird and am trying to use it to get back to working out. I don't run outside but do some tapes at that hour.

I missed my Thursday night yoga class so I did a make up this morning. Much different than the one I take on Thursday night. SOme things were the same but this included weights and a lot of arm work. It was funny because the other night I was thinking about kayaking this summer and how I better get my arms in shape. I know I am going to be hurting tomorrow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONA:cake:party::bday:
I hope you have a wonderful day and that you get a present that youve always wanted! Glad to hear you got your way with the retirement party and great job on the speech. I cry every time I say goodbye to someone, I could have known them for 2wks or 20 years it doesnt matter either way I ball. :lmao: So good for you for holding it together!

Amy- good job on getting the run/walk in. I definitely find myself with more energy in the evenings which is odd because I work all day but I think it becomes a great stress reliver. I do most of my weeknight runs around 730-8pm and my weekends early a.m around 7. My mind doesnt have issues with the morning runs but my body doesnt seem to like them as much.:confused3

Thanks for all the well wishes on my race. It went great today. The weather was nice and not too hot. I ran the 5K in an unofficial time of 38:30. I think my time is more official considering they used a bib rip off system. You cross the finish and walk through a block long shoot and hand off your bottom portion of the bib.:confused3 I actually crossed the start about 20 seconds after the clock started. I decided because of this timing system I would line up closer to the front. I usually head to the back. I think this made me run a little quicker than I normally do for the first 1/4 mile. I had alot of people passing me and that wasnt the greatest feeling but then I fell into my pace and it was good from there out. There were some huge hills and a lot of little ones along the way too. So I was pretty happy with my finish. My 1mile split was actually 11:35. Too bad mile 2 was closer to 13. :rotfl2: Overall I probably average around 12:30/mile.

Hope you all have a great holiday weekend!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. My husband and sons gave me Nook from Barnes and Noble. I love to read and we have way too many books in the house. This is a great way to cut down on the number of books. It took me a while to get it up and running but I have a couple of books in it right now and even downloaded the Bible for $1.99. I have a lot of things to learn but I am enjoying it. We went out to dinner and then went and got a cover for it.

Have a great evening everyone.

Dona-glad you had a nice birthday. I am undecided on the Nook or Kindle. I really like books-the smell, the feel of them. I use my library a lot, don't always buy books.

Lindsay-I posted on your journal but:thumbsup2 on your race!

I ran 4 miles today, weather was overcast and it sprinkled for the last mile. But that was the least of my worries. There is a fox that roams along the path I was running on. Another runner told me he came after her. I saw him, he came toward me, and I crossed the road. He didn't follow, but he sure was watching me pretty closely!! Then "the dance" started. I thought well my turnaround point is a convenience store, I will use their restroom. Go in, ask, kid says "we aint got one". So much for that idea. So I ran back home, perhaps a bit faster than I ordinarily would have:rotfl: Finished in 42:17, 10:34 avg pace. And there is a big "dip" in the middle. Going out is okay, since the incline in that direction is not too bad. Coming back, however, its killer. I managed to run up it 90% of the way. It has been one of the things I am trying to conquer.

No running again until Tuesday. Tomorrow we are having the family over for a cookout. Hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers. Potato salad, macaroni salad, deviled eggs. Brownies and chocolate chip cookies with ice cream for desert. All home made (except the ice cream). I spent all day today cooking. But I love doing it. I really enjoy cooking for a group, but I hate to cook dinner for the 3 of us each night.

Monday I get to relax!

Hi everyone. It's been busy, baseball, cub scouts, and work really do intefere with my dis time lately. I've been getting out 2-3 times a week to walk/run, and probably do 50-50, which really works for me. I'm going to sign up for my first 5k for june 16th, and looking forward to it. I'm also working on my eating again. I'm following ww, but not doing meetings, and want to get some weight off. I think if I lose some weight, I'll be able to run longer intervals too.

Whatever, I'm proud of myself... my "unofficial" pace is 10:05.11Whoo hoo!! Congratulations. :cool1:

Hope everyone has an incredible week! This is going to be a sad :sad1: but happy :) week for me.....I'm so very proud of my son and how he's grown into the young adult he is.....but so sad that one of my babies will be leaving the nest... All those special milestones are so bittersweet. Hope graduation went well.

I started my C25K over again this week. Last week I just walked but today I stared running again. I guess I was ready because I got done in 23 minutes the 1.6 miles that I usually did in 30. I will have to increase my distance next time and also my playlist on my iPod. :woohoo: Must have been my snazzy new running shirt in size XL -- who would've thought having an X in front would make you so fast?!? :rotfl2:Nice job on the running!! Sounds like there will be no sweeping at the princess. Love that you're in an XL now!! You're doing so great.

I cut my
5K down by 4 minutes in 1mths timeframe. I have a 5K race coming up on saturday. I am looking forward to the weekend already!:thumbsup 10 pounds in one month is awesome!!

I started the biggest loser challenge today on the wish boards and another diser had bought a headband that said "slow is the new fast":lmao: I so need to get that!I definitely need one too. So funny.

We had some hot days this week, and for summer, I'll definitely need to get out early.

I love books but I am terrible about returning them. I also love series and I also reread books. I does feel a little different but the convience is great. I know I never have to run out of books and can find the ones I want.

Congrats on the great run today.

I too love to cook for a crowd. I am starting to get used to cooking for only 2. I am okay if I am just making chops or burgers but am still running into problems when I make rice or pasta.

We aren't going to do much this weekend. Probably mow father in law's lawn tomorrow. Today we might see Shrek. Dh wanted to see it yesterday but I didn't want to eat popcorn the same day we went out to dinner. That will be our lunch for today. We never go to a late movie any more. Too expensive.

Have a great day everyone.

Veronica- I would be freaking out everytime I got near the area of the fox, you are brave. I know what you mean about the conquering of the hill. I have one good one right at the end of my run and most times I walk it except the one day I actually ran the whole thing. Not sure what came over me but I felt like rocky at the end. :rotfl: I havent ran the whole thing since but hope to do it again someday. Have a great cookout that food all sounds yummy.

The nook! How exciting what an awesome gift. We saw shrek last weekend and it was good although it was my least favorite. The kids enjoyed it. We skipped popcorn but then went next door after the movie to MC'D's since they had shrek toys in the happy meals. I ate a hamburger, 6 chicken nuggets, and a small fry. Should of just had the popcorn :rotfl2: Yeah well that was old news and now Im back on track one slip up is ok every now and then right. Hope you enjoy your day.

We are going to 2 family cookouts today. I saved all my extra points for the week just in case. I am a sucker for my nana's potatoe salad but I am planning on taking only 1 small scoop. I stepped on the scale this morning and it went down so that motivates me even more to make good choices today. Hope you all enjoy this wonderful weekend and knowing that tomorrow is another day off!

Happy Memorial Day INCREDIBLES!

I have been reading your posts and enjoying all your accomplishments, just a little pressed for time with the start of the summer BL challenge this week.

I ran 4 miles today, weather was overcast and it sprinkled for the last mile. But that was the least of my worries. There is a fox that roams along the path I was running on. Veronica, you may want to call your local animal control folks about that poor fox. It may have rabies or something because it shouldn't be so agressive. Be careful if you run that trail again.

Have a wonderful day INCREDIBLES. I will see you on the June thread. :thumbsup2

I am over on the BL challenge too. I know if it wasn't for the BL challenges and the amazing people here, that I would probably weigh a hundred pounds more than I do right now. I lost my mom last june, and over the summer, I gained a bunch of weight, and it's been such an emotional year of ups and downs, and everyone here has been so helpful and given me so much support. I am really feeling ready to focus and lose this weight, and with her anniversary coming up, I'm focusing on the running, and am determined not to eat my way through the my emotions like I did last spring and summer. I've done ww many times, and know the program pretty well, and I stopped going to the meetings a while ago when I figured out I was getting more support here than I was at the meetings, and like you said, it's free. I'll be seeing you on the BL thread too.
