View Full Version : Oh Great Camera Wizards.... help me!

After flip flopping between a Canon SD1300 and an SX120 - I bought the Canon SX120.

Now I feel like it's too big. I'm still within my return range. I need help!!

This is what I want:

A short to no lag time for picture taking

and

A small camera.

That's it. Am I missing something that I should need / want?

The reason I chose the SX120 was the 10x zoom - but do I really *need* a 10x zoom?? When do I zoom to 10? The SD1300 is a 4x zoom - is this a good zoom?

I'm desperate. HELP! If all I want is a great point and shoot and VOILA - can I go with the SD1300?

I will be eternally grateful to anyone with any input.

Why am I questioning the SX120? It's the size...that's it. I have a Canon S3 IS - and I find I don't even take it places, because I hate to be bothered with it. It's a fantastic, wonderful camera - but I'm not a fantastic wonderful photographer....I'm just a picture taker. :laughing:

I'd say stick with a 10x zoom. At least you know you'll never be totally out of reach. It's better to have and not need, than need and not have. Great.... now I'm sounding like my mom. ;)

Also, don't figure digital zoom into the equation. It's pretty pointless.

I'd stay with the one you have. My last camera was a tad bigger than that. If you really think it's too big, use a DSLR for a few months than go back to that camera. I guarantee you'll laugh at just how small it seems.

Truer words were never spoken. I used to have a Canon PowerShot S3 IS. So after a bought my first DSLR, that camera didn't get touched. A few weeks later, I then went to sell the S3 to a co-worker. And when I eventually held it, I couldn't believe how small it felt. Heck, when the S3 was my main camera, I thought it was on the 'bigger' side.

Same thing with my Nikon P80 super zoom. I use to think the lens on that thing was huge. :lmao:

Have you held the other camera and played with it somewhere? Was it in your original list of potentail cameras before you bought the SX120 or is it something you've just considered after having the one you bought?

You sacrifice some ISO ability (low-light) with the smaller camera, but it may fit your picture-taking purposes.

Does it take a "faster" picture than your current one? That's going to depend on focusing and your battery. It should do the trick based on its specifications for what you want to take pictures of.
