Hello everyone! Welcome to my first ever trip report!

Introductions:
WHO:
Tom :surfweb:, my dear brother and lover of everything and anything Disney.

Me, Karin :teacher:, who does all the planning and rearranging of our trips together.

We both reside in Austria and have first travelled to the US in 1992. We visited the California coastline and towards the end of the trip decided to spend a day ... or two at Disneyland.
Long story short, we loved it so much that we changed some of our trip and stayed even a little longer than those two days.
Since 1999 we are going to WDW on a regular basis, staying for an average of 3 - 4 weeks. This summer we are going to do an "All Disney Trip" that will last for exactly 30 days.

WHEN:
August 14 until September 11, 2010

WHERE TO STAY:
Here is where the pixie dust comes in! We booked a free dining bounceback at All Star Movies, back in summer of 09, which we have in the meantime changed to a 1 bedroom villa at Old Key West, thanks to disney.uk, who offered a 40+ % discount on the resort AND free dining. Staying there for 12 nights before we head over to Port Canaveral on August 26 for a three night cruise on the Disney Wonder, followed by a 4 night cruise on the Wonder again.
On September 2nd we will go back to OKW, with another 40+ % discount AND Free Dining, this time upgraded to deluxe dining.

The cruise is paid off, the ADRs are done and we are counting down the days. Can't wait to go!

And Karin, I know you asked about Mindy on the last TR...and since the thread is being closed down I figured I'd respond here. Things are progressing! Unfortunately there is a bit of a snag in intercountry adoptions between Russia and the US, which you may have heard about, resulting from a sad story of a mother that returned her 7 year old son to Russia alone! But, the countries are working out an agreement so we hope it does not delay our process (or worse!). So far so good...and thanks for asking!

I am glad to hear that your plans for Mindy are going forward, even if it is slowly! When the story of the mother who returned her son hit the news here there was a report that they would stop intercountry adoptions altogether and my first thought was about Mindy and what would happen to your plans! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

How this trip was “born”

For my birthday present Tom invited me to a weeklong trip to WDW in February. It was wonderful to get away from the snow and cold and we loved our stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort in a pirate room.

But our summer vacation included one more present I gave myself for my birthday.
Our first ever Disney cruise on the Disney Wonder.
We both are not big on beach holidays and we love to tailor our vacations to fit our style and needs, so even though we were looking forward to this new adventure, we both had second thoughts about being stuck on a ship.
There was no way getting out of the reservation as we had talked our friends Mary Ellen and Joe into coming along and we all had signed up to travel with another bunch of Disneyfans from another board.
All that being said, we were SURE this would be our once in a lifetime cruise!
We could not have been any more wrong!

How this trip was “born” Part 2

Even though we had started our cruise with liquid sunshine :lmao:, Disney’s term for pouring down rain, which caused us to miss the port altogether, driving there, it turned out to be such a fun and wonderful experience that after two days, when we were offered a discount for booking another cruise on board, it really got us thinking.
We discussed, and discussed our options some more and finally booked a 5 night, double dip (at Castaway Cay) cruise, which included a stop at Key West.
So, instead of skipping a year and going somewhere else we were already planning our 2010 vacation during our 2009 vacation. After the cruise we spend some time at OKW and while there we took advantage of the Bounceback Free Dining offer. We booked the first part of the trip in my name and the second part in Tom’s name, like guest relations suggested, so we ended up with 20 days of Free Dining again.:thumbsup2

It did not stay that way for very long, as we decided to change our 5 night cruise to two cruises, a 3 night cruise and a 4 night cruise, which came out about 200 dollars more expensive than the 5 night one. Since our days at sea had changed we changed our free dining stay as well, plus the resorts as well. Part was All Star Movies and part was Pop Century.
We ended up going home with another trip all planned and down payments done.:rolleyes1
Needless to say the changes continued. On Disney.uk they offered a 40+ % discount on Old Key West AND Free Dining. So we changed the second part of the trip to that and in February 2010, while on a high during our February trip to the world we changed the second part first to Saratoga Springs and then to Old Key West as well (same offer from Disney.uk as the first part). Can you tell we LOVE :love: the resort?

So here is our final itinerary.
August 14 is our travel day and check in at OKW where we are going to stay until August 26.
August 26 until August 29, Disney Wonder Cruise
August 29 until September 2, Disney Wonder Cruise
September 2 until September 11, OKW with Deluxe Disney Dining

What a haul from your Fish Extenders, read it about on another thread and its peaked my interest. Just said to DF that we should do it if we Cruise next year and have already decided what nik naks we can get from our local Disney Store to share with others :teeth:

Doing Fish Extenders is SO much fun! Let alone all the loot you are going to get!! ;) :lmao:
Once you have decided on a cruise, sign up for that particular cruise's "meet and FE" list on the cruise board!
We are already signed in for the two cruises and I CANNOT wait to do it again.
Since we don't have a Disney Store, Tom and I made our own little Disney gifties! Captain Jack Doorhangers, Door Magnets, bookmarks, we picked up some easy to transport candy (chocolate doesn't work in August in Florida :rotfl2:) and a homemade screensaver. It was so much fun to sneak around the ship and fill all the extenders of our group!

Now Disney has a habit of changing their park hours, so this itinerary may change ………… again and again!

Day 1
Saturday, August 14

Leave our home town at 11am and fly to Frankfurt for a stopover and on to Orlando where we will arrive at 6.40pm. :goodvibes

Next step will be the immigration, which can take quite a while – fun after a long day on a plane!
Once we are officially allowed into the country we will march down to the rental car desks and hand in our vouchers.
After picking up our rental car across the street we will then say :woohoo: and get started on our drive to Old Key West.

Day 2
Sunday, August 15

Guess we won’t be able to sleep in, since our body clocks will still be 6 hours ahead, so we have a breakfast ADR at Olivia’s.

After that we will drive to Publix and pick up some provisions to stock our “walk in” fridge. Ours here in Austria are about half the size, so this is a special treat for us!
Once grocery shopping is done we will drive to Epcot, whip out our APs and head into the park. Guess we will pick up a FP :thumbsup2 for a ride before we head into Mouse Gear (can you tell that I am a big shopper?).
Lunch will be somewhere in World Showcase (would love to do Kringla Bakery as they have some easy to share stuff and maybe the Liberty Inn).

In the early afternoon we plan to return to Old Key West and maybe spend a snack credit on a Mickey bar or one of these .....

It will be time to relax and maybe take a nap before we head over to the Contemporary Resort for dinner at The Wave. After that we will head over to the Magic Kingdom to watch Wishes and enjoy the Evening Extra Magic Hours until 1am.

Day 3
Monday, August 16

Guess we will sleep in that day IF we made it until 1am the day before.
By 11am we will make our way over to Downtown Disney to have lunch at Wolfgang Puck’s Express. :woohoo:

Now those of you who know me from the restaurant boards know that I have kind of an addiction to WPE. If it was possible I would move in there – I just LOVE their food and so does Tom. Can’t wait for that first taste of Crème Brulee!

Once we are stuffed to the gills we will stroll through all the shops at Downtown Disney and pick up a sample at Ghirardelli’s.
And when we are finally done window shopping we will go back to our villa and enjoy some drinks on the balcony/patio before we drive over to Animal Kingdom for Evening Extra Magic Hours.

Dinner that evening will be at Artist’s Point at the Wilderness Lodge.
Guess we will finish off the evening by sitting out on the balcony (and that’s what it is going to be called for the rest of the planning) and enjoying some adult drinks.

A group of 11 of us are staying for a week at BLT in August. My boyfriend and I are going down a day early (arriving on the 14th, just like you) and we are now convinced that we have to fit in a WPE breakfast. We've been for dinner and liked it well enough, but those breakfasts look phenomenal. We owe you one for "suggesting" it to us :laughing:

Hi, Karin. Will catch up with your plans later, just wanted to say that I hope you enjoy your days off. We just had our spring break the week before last and I got to spend some time relaxing and a lot of time playing with my son. It has suddenly become summer here and the weekend has been beautiful! Now I'm just trying to tear myself away from the computer and get myself ready for another week of teaching.

How wonderful for you that you got to relax and spend lots of time with your little one during spring break.
May is such a wonderful month for pupils and teachers here, lots of days off. We still have "calendar holidays". (like some holidays fall on a Thursday in May and we usually have Friday off as well.) Actually there will only be 10 (!!) school days for me in May and I work full time.
But I guess I have to get back to do some work tomorrow - I have a pile of test books that are blinking at me! ;) :lmao:

Olivia's is such a relaxed restaurant and the food is SO yummy! And I cannot wait for those strawberries and cream for breakfast, what a start to our vacation!
Thanks for sharing my excitement about paying off another part of our trip. I need to pay everything off with one credit card, as it is the one that gives me airmiles, so I need to spread payments out a bit! :laughing:
But there is not much more left to pay off. I want to pre-purchase the Photopass CD, now that they have a discount on it again and the last leg of the trip (9 nights OKW and FD upgraded to DxDDP) is all that is left to pay off and then we are all set! :woohoo:

As for the tickets we hold - we hold A WHOLE LOT! We intend to use one set of this year's tickets (which we will need to upgrade to non expiry :scared1:) in February and use another set to get a new AP, but I hope to use up some of the tickets we still hold next summer.
We have 5 day tickets which Disney was friendly enough to exchanged for us when we found out that UK tickets do expire after having asked 3 times if they would!!! We then went past the expiry date but Disney exchanged them anyway! Gotta love a company like that! :cloud9:

and 1 set of 2 day tickets (left overs from a 4 day ticket) from the last century :rotfl: yip, we bought them in 1999 and they are still good!

Is August 11 for the Dream a typo? I hope so, as we are going to sail on the Dream from August 21 - 29 (back2back). We hope to get the discounted offer for both cruises as we have 2 cruises this year too.

News of the day!!!!

We got mail from the DCL today! Now that I have paid off the cruise they can't wait that we sail with them! :lmao: :lmao:

I just love the fact that we get all sorts of mail this year since we don't use a Travel Agent this year. I was pretty unhappy with the TA we used last year because when she found out that I wasn't handing over the rest of my reservations to her, she pretty much dropped all communication :scared1: and I had to fight for my welcome booklet from DCL. This year I did it all by myself and get tons of stuff from DCL! :woohoo:

My oh my you have lots of tickets:thumbsup2 TBH if the British TA's are correct then Summer 2011 free dining (or any DDP) won't be that great of a deal as they are taking away the desserts on both CS and TS meals (and the refillable mug on QSDDP)...so I suspect a room only discount will be better....that said, we'll probably revert to staying and eating offsite, and use up some of those tics.

We've always upgraded the 7 day premiums to non expiry, $117 per ticket seems to ring a bell:confused3...so we'll have a couple of sets of 4 tics to use up for next year too...not as many as you1

Aug 11 isn't a typo...it's shorthand for Aug 2011:confused3

we should be booking the Aug 21-25th cruise (there's a DIS thread set up for it:woohoo:) but had a "blip" this weekend when we briefly considered doing it in February 11 (2011;)) instead, but have now decided the weather is too cool at that time of year.

My oh my you have lots of tickets:thumbsup2 TBH if the British TA's are correct then Summer 2011 free dining (or any DDP) won't be that great of a deal as they are taking away the desserts on both CS and TS meals (and the refillable mug on QSDDP)...so I suspect a room only discount will be better....that said, we'll probably revert to staying and eating offsite, and use up some of those tics.

We've always upgraded the 7 day premiums to non expiry, $117 per ticket seems to ring a bell:confused3...so we'll have a couple of sets of 4 tics to use up for next year too...not as many as you1

I did read about the possible changes in the DDP in Linda's thread! Well, if they take away the dessert it's not much of a deal any more, so we will stick to our Tables in Wonderland card then!
We need to renew ours anyway this summer and since it is good for 13 months (it always has been for us) it will even cover next summer's dates, so I am not too worried about getting a nice discount for food! ;)
And it would mean that we could venture offsite more often. I remember those first few trips when we shyed away from some of the eateries because they were real expensive and went offsite and had wonderful food!

Have you thought about what category stateroom you want to book? For this year we were lucky to score the exact same stateroom as last year but the Dream is going to be bigger and I would love to move up a deck or two! So Deck 9 or 10 sound good to me and I will definitely want a verandah room again. Tom is not going to like the higher deck! He has issues looking down and had a hard time getting used to the Wonder's verandah. I don't mind all that much - I live on the 7th floor (8th american count) and am used to some kind of height! ;)

I am still signed up for the Aug 16, 2011 thread and that reminds me that I need to say goodbye to them and sign up for the Aug 21 and Aug 25 threads!

For this year we have already signed up for the FE fun for both cruises - happy hunting down little goodies to us! :rotfl2:

Okay...I'm caught up. Luckily, You didn't get too far into the pretrippy. And, of course, I made the mistake reading while I was waiting for Mark to get home from umpping his baseball game which ran really late so we could eat dinner. I had boring cheese on toast and let me tell you it did nothing for me after just seeing your first couple of pictures of your dining choices.

We got good news today. Mark is getting a commission check so we can pay off our trip now and not wait. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Olivia's is such a relaxed restaurant and the food is SO yummy! And I cannot wait for those strawberries and cream for breakfast, what a start to our vacation!
Thanks for sharing my excitement about paying off another part of our trip. I need to pay everything off with one credit card, as it is the one that gives me airmiles, so I need to spread payments out a bit! :laughing:
But there is not much more left to pay off. I want to pre-purchase the Photopass CD, now that they have a discount on it again and the last leg of the trip (9 nights OKW and FD upgraded to DxDDP) is all that is left to pay off and then we are all set! :woohoo:

We got mail from the DCL today! Now that I have paid off the cruise they can't wait that we sail with them! :lmao: :lmao:

I just love the fact that we get all sorts of mail this year since we don't use a Travel Agent this year. I was pretty unhappy with the TA we used last year because when she found out that I wasn't handing over the rest of my reservations to her, she pretty much dropped all communication :scared1: and I had to fight for my welcome booklet from DCL. This year I did it all by myself and get tons of stuff from DCL! :woohoo:

I love receiving Disney Mail. Can't wait til we get ours, although apart from the vouchers not sure what else you get as they don't give out ME vouchers anymore to UK Residents :confused3

Its fun to do it all yourself, have never used a TA and I don't know if I could trust them enough to do everything.

Days 4-6 sound great, love that you got WPE in again :teeth: Looking forward to hearing about your Tokyo Dining experience :)

I have been MIA from the Dis since our last trip Nov 09 and there is so much going on with us, some of which you know ;) and my sister just had another baby, one more niece for me to take to Disney!

Your trip sounds like a dream come true and I hope you guys have the time of your lives, you deserve it!

I am trying to get a trip together myself but for some reason I am just not into it right now. Hopefully we will go Oct 22-31 and stay at the Dolphin but I have not made room ressies or dining ressies or planned the park hours or anything...maybe I will have someone else do it for me LOL!

My AP's expire in 4 weeks and I dont think we will be going back before then...funny enough but the last 6 months have flown by and it seems like we were just at WDW and the next 5 1/2 months will probably whiz by too and I will be back in my habitat again!

I haven't worked with a TA, apart from our cruise last year, in ages! And I was not impressed last year either! Austrian TAs have absolutely NO idea when it comes to Disney - Tom, who's a mailman delivers mail to several TA and he has been asked for advice on Disney several times! :rotfl: They do sell the DDP, but have no idea that you can/should book 180 days in advance and they have not heard of the DCL yet! Go figure! ;)

Isn't Disney Mail the best ever? I just don't get it, do they still send out vouchers or don't they. Every year they tell me that they NO longer send the paperwork to the individuals, but to the resort and I ALWAYS get them at home! I am usually scared out of my mind, because we leave early and have portions with vouchers towards the end of our vacation! AND I need those vouchers for the preferred fireworks shows! ;)

We have been to Tokyo Dining once before and we loved the atmoshpere, the food, but had a hard time communicating with our server, who was so overly friendly.
WPE ..... did you expect anything else from us? ;)

You need to try their sandwiches! They don't have a huge variety, but the ones they offer are soooooooooo good and quite big as well. Don't forget to get one of their cupcakes too! :cloud9:

I LOOOVE Mickey Mail. I've been dubbed the travel agent in the family. I love researching travel and whatnot, so we've never needed a TA. Nothing gets me more pumped than Mickey Mail. I actually got my itinerary mailed to me today. I was psyched.

And the first video cracked me up! :lmao: I would LOVE to witness Disney kicking all the other cruises' butts! And it makes me want to go on a Disney Cruise...:sad1: Someday!

I always switch to a TA to get onboard credit, (usually $75) after I do all the booking myself.

Wonder-ing, if I should not transfer the booking this time?

I guess I need to clear up why I am not a big fan of TAs

I have a choice of 3 different kinds of TAs!
Austrian TA: They have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to Disney. They have a catalog of resorts (not even all of them), they have a fixed price - no discounts what so ever and once you are booked there is NO fooling around and changing things as there is a hefty fine for everything you want to change.
I don't like to pay someone for a service I know more about than he does.

Disney.co.uk TA:
This is Disney UK and they have amazing offers (48% off of OKW AND free dining) but their rules are about the same as the Austrian TA. Fines for changing.

And my other experience was a US TA.
Maybe I just hit it off badly with her, but the first thing she wanted me to do is send my Credit Card information by email, which kind of freaked me out. You are warned by EVERY bank here NOT to do that!
I never got anything official from Disney, just her emails. Once she figured out that we had a 4 week vacation with 3 weeks at Disney, she told me to mail her all my other stuff as she would over see everything! Well, she knew there was nothing left to oversee, as everything was booked AND paid off!
Once I refused to let her have my other bookings she went quiet on me. A reply to an email took forever and when I heard from other friends that they were excited about getting info on their cruise I asked when to expect my stuff and the response was that I did not need it, she was NOT going to send it, to print out my paperwork from the internet and hunt someone down for luggage tags once we arrived. I had to really push to get my "welcome package" delivered to my resort - she would NOT mail it to me to Austria (and I offered to pay for it).
Oh, and we did NOT get any onboard credits or anything else through her, we paid the same DCL asked for on its website.

Well, this year, I got tons of stuff from DCL all sent to Austria and it is just so much more fun and exciting.

So this is why I book myself. I LOVE to be in charge of my vacation and have everything in my own hands.
I do not see any reason to use a TA, if I can do it myself as well and be in charge of all my changes! ;)

If you feel comfortable with your TA, PLEASE, go for it! I guess sitting here in Europe it is very much different to being in the US!
PLEASE don't let my experiences influence you!

Dinner is at Boma, a first for dinner for us. We love their breakfast, but have never been for dinner, so we are real excited about it. After dinner we will drive to Magic Kingdom for Evening Extra Magic Hour until 2am.

A quick weekend update! Some important NEWS I have to share with my DISfriends!!

:woohoo: This afternoon we decided to do a short weekend trip to Disneyland Paris from May 22nd to 24th! :woohoo:

Last week I received two "special" offers from Disney. One offered a 20% discount off an AP and the other one offered an 18 month AP instead of a 12 month one.
In November we had decided to skip DLRP in the spring, since our APs had expired and we had gone to WDW in February. But this was an offer that we just could not refuse! 18 months of Disney fun for the price of 12 - I have never been able to resist a bargain! :rotfl2:

So today we discussed the matter, did the maths and booked two flights from our home town to Paris via Frankfurt. We got the flights for free using airmiles, but have to pay for the taxes. Our favourite hotel was booked solid, so now we are trying a new one (we usually stay in villa like resorts with a kitchen/fridge and a bit more space). The price was very reasonable and even the rental car came at an acceptable price.

So, here we are!
I'll get home from a weeklong school excursion on May 21st around 6pm. We will leave for Paris on the following day at 6am! So 12 hours after returning from our excursion we will be on a plane on the way to Mickey!
It is going to be a holiday weekend, so the parks will be FULL, but we have decided to concentrate on the shows and parades.
We are only 12 days out and this is so exciting! :dance3:

Hey, that's funny about the school trips. Our classes do 1 week long trip every year. In their first year here at our school (5th school year) they do a "swimming trip" where they stay at a lake and they all get to achieve different levels of swimming. The following year they are doing a skiing trip. Now, I am not a big sports person, so those two trips are out for me, but this year we are doing a project week, which means that we will do different activities and they will have a trainer to do some things and the teachers will only be cheparones, so I can come along!
First day, we'll travel to a small village, Obertraun, have lunch and in the afternoon we are going to a saltmine and have a "lesson" in the mine. They actually built a school room inside the mountain, so this should be fun.
Day 2, 3 and 4 the pupils are with trainers and they go canyoning, will be at a rope garden, do some mountain climbing and so on. And on our last day we go to Salzburg to Schloss Hellbrunn to see the "watergames" there. One of the owners had secretly hid little waterspouts to splash visitors - there are LOADS of those spouts, so it should be a lot of fun and we hope the weather will be nice and warm for it!

As for Disney, we just LOVE Cali Grill as I am sure you remember from my dining reviews and Tutto is wonderful too. It has very close to authentic Italian cuisine, so it is a nice change from the usual fare.

I had a real relaxed day today. I had the day off, sneaky me worked two Tuesdays in a row, so I could have today off. So I got school stuff ready for next week, then spent a relaxed afternoon with Tom enjoying some more of my yummy cake and worked on my pre-trippie!
We don't do big presents any more, as going on our Disney trips ARE our presents! ;)

So another school day tomorrow and then I am off until Monday. Thursday is a holiday here and we often get Fridays off after a holiday - so another nice long weekend. Then I am going on a weeklong trip with my pupils (don't worry I will post little updates, we just got a netbook, so I will be able to go online during that week!) and the next weekend is another long one as Monday is a holiday and schools are closed on Tuesday as well! :yay:
Only scary thing! I'll get back from my school trip, dump the dirty laundry and repack as we leave the next day at 6am! :scared1: for DLRP!

I missed your question where we are going to stay at DLRP. We have decided to try the new "mysuitevillage" in Montevrain. They rent out little houses, ours has two bedrooms with 4 beds, a living room, and a kitchen. It's less than 200 € for the two nights.
We have looked at it on Google Earth and it is very close to the Val d'Europe shopping center and since we have a car this is close enough.

Yes, it is a cool cake and SOOOOOOOO yummy! :thumbsup2 I need to take a photo of the cut cake, so you can see the inside.

We have stayed in the area before and it is just a 5 minute drive to DLRP, so we are good with the location.
And yes, parking is free at the parking lot AND the hotels (only exception is the Disneyland hotel) for Dream AP holders. We usually park at the New York hotel and just stroll through the village on our way to the parks.
The AP is so handy in DLRP, you get 20 % off the merchandise and 10 % off the food (doesn't matter if it is CS or TS or snack) so it pays for itself within a matter of days!

Being an AP holder is just fun! ;) :lmao: It really pays off for us as we are not eligable for the 14/21 day British passes and if you stay more than 10 days it is more cost effective to buy an AP instead of 2 sets of tickets.
It also gives you the freedom of going to a park for an hour or two. When we still had regular tickets we would never waste a ticket for an EMH evening visit.
With the AP we have just gone to a park, ride a ride or two and took off again and that was it for a day. Guess we are spoiled! :rotfl2:

Side note: In 2006 we did a trip to DLRP in June, then flew to Orlando for 2 weeks and did the west coast for another 3 weeks and during that visit we held annual passes to three Disney parks, DLRP, WDW, and Disneyland! I loved "flashing" my purse around so people could see my array of Annual Passes! :rotfl:

You should look into it DVC is really awesome (my family has it, we were hesitant at first but sooo happy we decided to get it)!!!

We very nearly did have DVC, on our last trip we actually signed up and DF swatted up on how to utilise the points etc, but I started getting cold feet as DF's job was a little bit unstable when we got back, not to mention I just had a funny feeling about doing this when we didn't even have a place of our own and there was something else I couldn't quite put my finger on. But I have promised DF that as soon as we have gotten our wedding and living situated down we can look into signing up to DVC again (fingers crossed we can).

My birthday and the following day were really wonderful - I will update and explain everything in my next update - AND I have food pix as well!
We still have some cake left - that thing was HUGE! But we are finally making a dent in it! ;)

And that cake is AWESOME!!!!! I would LOVE a cake like that! Did you get to keep the mini ship??

Yes, dole whips it is! Lets meet for dole whips and then ride Pirates! Jungle cruise would be fun too, but I think they won't be open during Extra Magic Hours.
The ship ON the cake is actually a Christmas Ornament Tom ordered from someone in Kissimmee! I need to watch out, he gets even more sneaky than me when it comes to surprises. ;) BUT I love it!

It was! Now we only hold 2 different passes, and I have been known to show my other APs at Disney, when asked for a photo ID (both DL AP and DLRP AP do have a photo on them!). It is always good for a laugh! :rotfl2:

Disneyland Paris is such a fun place to be! It is very similar to the MK and yet sooooooooo different. I promise to take LOADS of photos (at least Tom will, he's got a new camera) and post them here!

We can't wait for our short break at DLRP! This is a real exciting year so far. First WDW in February and now we are able to squeeze in a trip to DLRP!

We looked into DVC ourselves! :lmao: But it is not for us, we are too old and it does not fit our style of vacations.
But you are still so young and I guess it would be right for you! Just sign up for one of their tours and ASK lots of questions! ;)

Here's another update - actually this one is to explain why I am going to change the title of my pre-trippie, soon to be DLRP trip report! ;)

The new title will be:

Now, how did we come up with the change?

One of my birthday presents from Tom was a Scrooge McDuck piggy bank!

I AM the miser in our family! I am trying to save as much money as possible to happily hand it over to Mr. Mouse!
So, when we originally booked this years summer vacation we had reservations at All Star Movies and Pop Century but when we were able to save a little extra money we were able to upgrade to OKW!
When we first talked about rebooking on board the Wonder we played with the idea of getting an inside stateroom to save some money - we threw that idea overboard right away. ;) :laughing:
But after some number crunching we decided to change our reservation and for a few dollars more we got 7 nights on the Wonder instead of 5! AND we were able to keep our verandah room!

Value Resorts and Inside Staterooms? Bah Humbug! Now I guess that title really fits me!

Especially when we take into consideration that we were just sure we would NOT be able to fit in a trip to WDW in February - AND WE DID GO BACK!!! and that renewing our APs for DLRP, let alone a visit there were out of the question! AND WE ARE GOING BACK IN JUST 8 MORE DAYS!!
Well, that's the story behind the change in the title, hope you all don't mind!

Okay, so here is a short update on what happened those last few days around here.

On Wednesday, the day after my birthday I had to go back to school and had a huge surprise from my class!

They had baked a cake for my birthday, so we could all celebrate during my geography lesson! (Well, here goes another geography lesson, but it was a good cause, wasn't it?)

Sorry, the photo is SO small, but I had not brought my camera and one of my pupils took the photo with his cell phone, than resized it to send it to me and this is what I got! :rotfl2:

It was big enough to serve all 25 of us and it was very good! Needless to say it was a huge surprise and it was very sweet of them!

Now that same evening we took our catsitters, Christa and Raimund, out for dinner.
Since I love to do dining reviews I thought I might sneak in one here too! I'll keep it short and simple, I promise!

This is NOT WDW food - Austrian food at its best!

Tom had the pan seared brook trout over creamy risotto of white and green asparagus. Gordon Ramsay would have loved the risotto ;), it was so nice and the fish had a really crispy skin and the flesh was still moist! YummYYYYYYY!!

My main course was the Asparagus Cordon Bleu. White asparagus wrapped in cheese and ham, than breaded and fried! I can tell you this was SO good! It came with parsley potatoes and basil remoulade! Yum, yum, yum!

My dessert, Strawberry Tiramisu, accompanied by strawberry sorbet! The sorbet was out of this world good. The Tiramisu was :cloud9: heavenly too.

Tom had the Light and Dark Chocolate Mousse with Layer Cake, Tonkabeans Ice-cream and Whisky Marinated Berries. Not the lightest of desserts, but very good - he ate it all and that means a lot! ;)

Both, Christa and Raimund had the "Everything Strawberry", a Cannelloni filled with strawberry cream, stewed strawberries and a strawberry foam! We had such fun as the cannelloni was stuck to the plate with white chocolate and we had the funniest ideas on how to eat it!

All in all it was a really fun day!

Didn't do much yesterday, but I want to update some more today!

That tour sounds wonderful and something we would be interested in doing but they have the restriction that you must be at least 16 to participate, our DS will only be 14. Darn it!

I can live without Star Tours, I have major motion sickness issues with it. I hope IASM is open, we like to do that at least once every trip but if TSM is closed I am going to crushed!!! That is one of my favorite rides and I was really excited to hear that they have FP because in DL they don't. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

We have done most of the tours at the MK and even did some of them twice! :lmao: But when I found out about this new one - I knew I had another highlight!

Star Tours should be closed - they have a "Last Tour to Endor" event on August 14 and should close as of September 8.
The closure of IASW is on Disney's own homepage - MK!! (Check the calendar it's on there) Closed from Aug 1 to Oct 23
TSM is supposed to close on August 15 - our luck we arrive on Aug 14! :sad2:
and supposed to open again on Sept 5!
Kathy you should be good then - you'll arrive AFTER Sept 5

Moving and cruising day today!

After getting ready in the morning we will load the car and get ready to check out of Old Key West. I hate those envelopes at the doors! :sad2: We hope to be at Downtown Disney at 9am for breakfast at Wolfgang Puck’s Express

and after that we will hit the road for our drive to Port Canaveral.
Once there we will drop off our luggage and park the car in the cruise parking lot before we head over to go through security and check in for the cruise.

On our first cruise we booked a tour in Nassau and it was so not worth it, so this year we’ll try a different approach. After checking out some of the touristy shops and maybe some Starbuck’s coffee we will go back onboard the ship

DH and I spent the second half of our honeymoon at a resort in Nassau. Our resort was beautiful but the downtown area left something to be desired. I thought I was getting a bargain with the fake bags, turns out they fell apart not too long after I got home and began using them. :mad: Oh well, live and learn. What I suggest you do, is take a water ferry (it's only a couple of dollars) over to Paradise Island and follow the masses to the Atlantis. They have a shopping area that is very nice and you can get a treat there (I believe they have a starbucks, a smoothie place, and a Ben & Jerry's icecream shop). Walk into the Atlantis and check it out. They have an aquarium you can visit (it does cost money but a part of it I believe is free to view). They have a casino there as well. The atmosphere of Paradise Island doesn't feel as run down as Nassau. Although, on our way back from visiting Paradise Island we took a cab b/c it was raining and had to take a detour b/c of road construction and our cab driver drove past his church and through some of the residential areas and it was really interesting to see.

We have done most of the tours at the MK and even did some of them twice! :lmao: But when I found out about this new one - I knew I had another highlight!

Star Tours should be closed - they have a "Last Tour to Endor" event on August 14 and should close as of September 8.
The closure of IASW is on Disney's own homepage - MK!! (Check the calendar it's on there) Closed from Aug 1 to Oct 23
TSM is supposed to close on August 15 - our luck we arrive on Aug 14! :sad2:
and supposed to open again on Sept 5!

Wow! That is VERY valueable information! I just copied your post to my trip notes and we will definitely try it out!
I never looked into Atlantis, but if we can get a ferry than we should be fine and we can always take a taxi back too!
We're not keen on the casino, but the aquarium sounds nice - don't mind paying for it! ;)
Last year we did a Sea and See tour of Nassau and it was nowhere near what I expected.
They put us on a submarine for over an hour and it was boiling hot in that tin, we did see some nice fish, but I was glad when it was over.
The second part was a "sightseeing tour! :rotfl2: unfortunately there weren't many sights to see - a police station, a hospital, a radio station, a water tower and a fort as far as I recall - the most frightening thing was that the driver had us repositioned on the bus, so the "weight" was distributed evenly and the "bus" would not tip over! :scared1: I was glad when we were able to get off! Once was more than enough! :rotfl:

Found your PTR and am all caught up!

I'm drooling over your ADRs; this is the first trip that I've ever taken (out of 20+ trips) where I won't be making a single ADR. DH wants to just wing things and stick with CS. I still have minor panic attacks just thinking about not carrying an ADR confirmation print-out with me. :lmao: So, I can live through your ADRs now, instead!

We've never eaten at WPE; we ate at the restaurant on two trips, and both experiences were terrible. I've heard great things about WPE, so I'm hoping to try it this trip since stubborn DH just wants to stick with CS. (I do understand his reasoning; he's only been with me twice, and we never take the time to try CS places because we always have multiple ADRs each day. He agreed to go back not even a year after our last trip, so I guess I can deal with it.)

I'm so jealous of the cruises!! We took a Carnival cruise with our in-laws and yuck, yuck all around!!! I hated it, but I so want to do a WDW cruise. I already told DH that when I graduate from law school, a WDW cruise is going to be my gift to myself!

Don't be too jealous about all of my ADRs, LOL, they keep changing all the time as Disney changes park hours for me all the time, so the load we have this time is hard to keep up with! :rotfl2:
There are lots of yummy CS options throughout WDW and you MUST try WPE! We have been to the Cafe too and weren't that much impressed, especially with the service, which felt very rushed, but WPE at the Marketplace is like a CS with a TS feel. You order at a counter and then the food is brought out to you - real plates and real cutlery!! :goodvibes

We loved our first Disney cruise! So much we rebooked while we were still on board! :lmao:
We did a four night cruise and there was so much to do and see we didn't even have time to check out ALL the different decks! ;)
So, I guess we HAD TO go back! :laughing:

Did you read about the rumoured changes to LeCellier and DDP??
The rumour is that LC is going to be a signature dining location! Means 2 TS credits, less tables (if that is even possible) and a new revamped menu! Changing over is supposed to take place in September!!!!!!!!!!! Hope they will still be open when we have an ADR there on September 2nd!

The British TAs offer a completely different DDP for 2011!! Nothing confirmed yet, but since they all have the same changes it looks likely!
QSDDP - no more desserts with CS meals, no more mug!
Basic DDP - no more desserts with either CS or TS meals, but a second snack!
DxDDP - no more desserts either!
I wonder if this is going through! IF it is, the DDP will no longer be a good value for us! TiW how we love thee! ;)

Debarkation and embarkation day!

Guess we will be up early and head for breakfast to our assigned breakfast location. After that we will just pick up our small suitcase and leave the ship.

Since we have to leave the ship anyway we will drive to Cocoa Beach and do a bit of shopping for drinks and look around a bit. At around 11am we will head back to the ship, park the car in the carpark and head back to check in for the next cruise. Since we won’t have much luggage it should be a piece of cake!

Once back on board we will head for either Parrot Cay or Beach Blanket and enjoy some lunch and an adult beverage.

Our day will be started by a room service breakfast after we hopefully see the Wonder dock at Castaway Cay. Once they allowed people on the island we plan to get off the ship and head for the tram to Serenity Bay.

The shopping at Atlantis is fun! That was the one part of our Carnival cruise that I enjoyed.

The WDW cruise just looks like a blast; I can't wait! Must start saving now. (Well, you know, after our October trip and our first trip to DLR next summer. :lmao:)

Okay; you have convinced Mark and I that we need to do the Disney Cruise. So I'm going to start putting a little money away each week and we are going to plan to do this in 2013. Mark will turn 60 and it will be our 30th wedding anniversary and I think this would be a perfect way to celebrate both those occasions.

Update with EXCITING NEWS!!!!!!

Today I found out that Disney offers a new behind the scenes tour!

and I just got off the phone because we are booked on the tour on Aug 22!!!

So, I haven't even finished posting my planned itinerary and I am already going to change things around! :rotfl2:

So the prospect of NO TSM made it easier to decide the day and instead of going to DHS to ride TSM we are now going to DHS while on the tour! :rotfl:,
we will stay with our plans of having lunch at Captain Cooks and the rest of the day stays the same as well!

Me and DF actually looked into holidaying here once. It is totally commercialised, but looks like alot of fun. Its supposed to be one of the worlds largest aquariums, the casino is supposed to be pretty good and the water slides are awesome too (not sure if non guests can use the pool etc, but I know that you can get a day pass to Atlantis), they have this huge maya temple like water slide which is really high and shoots you down into a plexi glass tunnel which is surrounded by sharks. There is also another tunnel, like the lazy river at Disney, where you just float along next to the sharks (behind glass of course).

I heard this too and am not best pleased, but DF says its all still in the rumour mill at the moment, nothing concrete has come out yet.

But if it does go Signature I am not sure if we could support Disney's decision and might cancel our ADR :(

I totally agree with you! The casino was definitely nothing to write home about, there are nicer ones here in IL even. To be able to use their water facilities for the day if you aren't a guest is something like $100 or more! :scared1: The aquarium is around $20-$25 a person, so that's not too bad. We went to the Bahamas for the beautiful water. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort and the property was beautiful. I miss it every day. The resort we stayed at even offers a "day pass" where people on cruises can come and visit for the day and pay a flat rate to use the pool, the private beach, and eat and drink all you can! If we go on a Bahamian cruise I definitely would do this, as there is not much to do.

DH and I are most likely doing a cruise for our vacation next year and DH is definitely sold on the Disney cruises, if only they didn't cost so much more than a Carnival cruise. :confused3 However, we could do a 3 or 4 night Bahamas cruise and then spend a few days in WDW, even though I tell him no WDW next year. :rotfl2:

Well, to be VERY honest I have been back for a week now but there was lots of stuff to catch up on and my DIS time was cut short!

Tina, you need to take one of those cruise! I wish we could take one of their longer cruises, but as I am stuck with my school schedule we seem to be set with the Bahamian ones! ;) But I don't complain - I love them!!!!!!!
The Alaskan cruise must be wonderful. We looked into the itineraries, but it did not fit into our budget to go to Canada, then fly across the country to go to WDW.
Maybe we will try one of their European ones one day - much shorter way to get there! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the thumbs up on the Atlantis. We have made our minds up and we will go there on our second cruise! Shopping should be fun and seeing the aquarium sounds like fun too!

As far as WPE - the only thing we ever tried and did NOT like was the butternut squash soup! I love their pizzas and their sandwiches are outstanding - homemade chips! YUM!!
If you like that sort of thing - their Creme Brulee is to die for!

I LOVED visiting the Atlantis hotel. The details are incredible. The aquarium is aso beautiful. I love how they make it look like ruins under the sea

Okay; you have convinced Mark and I that we need to do the Disney Cruise. So I'm going to start putting a little money away each week and we are going to plan to do this in 2013. Mark will turn 60 and it will be our 30th wedding anniversary and I think this would be a perfect way to celebrate both those occasions.

I was totally convinced on doing a Cruise after I read my first TR of Karin's, I think Paulo sealed the deal for me (I think it was brunch or lunch where she posted all those pics of these yummy awesome looking desserts).

We have done most of the MK ones twice, so this is a nice change having a new one to look forward to!
The closures are a pain, but Stitchkingdom reported only a day or so ago that TSM is "only" closed from Aug 16 to 27! Lets hope they are right, that would leave the whole second part of our vacation to do a ride or two on TSM! ;)

As you mentioned LeCellier maybe going signature - I just hope they do it after our visit or we need to pay out of pocket for it. But if the DDP is going to change the way it can be read in UK travel brochures we won't buy it any more anyway. Means back to our trusted TiW card! :lmao:

We are really looking forward to the tour! I LOVE those backstage areas they let you peek into! Loved to see the Disney Florist and the Christmas Warehouse and the workshops where they repair/update the floats!

I totally agree with you! The casino was definitely nothing to write home about, there are nicer ones here in IL even. To be able to use their water facilities for the day if you aren't a guest is something like $100 or more! :scared1: The aquarium is around $20-$25 a person, so that's not too bad. We went to the Bahamas for the beautiful water. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort and the property was beautiful. I miss it every day. The resort we stayed at even offers a "day pass" where people on cruises can come and visit for the day and pay a flat rate to use the pool, the private beach, and eat and drink all you can! If we go on a Bahamian cruise I definitely would do this, as there is not much to do.

YAY! I am so excited that you liked my suggestion. DH and I are most likely doing a cruise for our vacation next year and DH is definitely sold on the Disney cruises, if only they didn't cost so much more than a Carnival cruise. :confused3 However, we could do a 3 or 4 night Bahamas cruise and then spend a few days in WDW, even though I tell him no WDW next year. :rotfl2:

Thanks so much again for your suggestion. We are still toying with the idea of joining the Disney tour that takes you to the Atlantis for the aquarium and a shopping and "stroll through" tour. They take you there and show you some of the grounds, then you are "free" to do whatever pleases you and they pick you up again. It's not expensive, so we might do that!
I totally understand what you say about Disney cruises being much more expensive than a Carnival or other one! I was shocked :scared1: when I priced out a Carnival cruise with about the same itinerary - it was about half of what Disney charges, but the Disney service is what gets me, you feel SO pampered and all those extra touches ...... oh well, I have so fallen for that mouse! ;)

Okay, let me fill you in on what went on those last two weeks!

First I went on a weeklong fieldtrip with my pupils and ALL week it was pouring down with rain. They had an outdoor programme, and needless to say it was a real wet affair. They built a raft, went mountaineering, which had my heart stop when they had to cross a gorge on a wire, they went canoeing and they learned to use a bow and arrow. The youth hostel we stayed at was wonderful, but I would not recommend the company that was in charge of the programme!
We returned home on Friday afternoon and there was just enough time left to do some shopping, dump the contents of the suitcase in my flat and repack to go to

Disneyland Resort Paris

the very next morning!

So, here we go .......... a short trip report of our visit to Disneyland Resort Paris!

Day 1

Day 1 started real early! Our first alarm went off at 3am :scared1: and we reset it for 3.30, because we both were just still SO tired. At 3.30 we finally got up, got ready, had some breakfast, and we were out the door at 4.45. The drive to the airport is just 25 minutes and once we arrived there, we stopped right in front of the airport (10 minute parking zone), and went inside to check in our luggage. We had checked in online the day before and Linz has a TINY airport, so that the baggage check in was done in no time. We then went back outside, drove the car to the long term parking lot, found a spot quite close to the exit and walked over to the airport again. It's a 3 minute walk, :rotfl2:

Once inside we went through the security check, checked out the duty free shop and then got in line for the first leg of the trip, the flight to Frankfurt. This is a 55 minute flight and the plane is a pretty small one. The good thing is that Lufthansa still caters, so the time goes by pretty fast.
So once we were airbourne they started service.

The 55 minutes went by pretty fast and we landed at Frankfurt International Airport.
The plane got parked at the very furthest away spot they had, so that made for a pretty long bus ride back to the terminal.
We had about an hour and a half until the second flight and we had to change terminals (underground tunnels to get from one terminal to the other). We took our time, walked around a bit, explored the shops and it was finally time to get on board for the next flight.

Another 50 minute flight and this time we were served drinks, Coke, for both of us and sandwiches.

This is a pumpkin seed sandwich, which had some cream cheese and some slices of cheese and which was fresh and very nice. Once we had finished our meal we were close to Paris, Charles de Gaulle airport. We landed right on time and while I waited for our suitcase to arrive, Tom went to pick up the rental car.
Once we had found the car in the upstairs parking lot and had loaded everything into it we finally got on the road to Disneyland Paris. It's about half an hours drive and there were no problems on the motorway and we arrived at Magny le Hongre at around 11.30am.

Our first stop was to buy this ..........

absolutely wonderful, fresh, still hot, crusty on the outside and melt in your mouth soft on the inside, baguette! :rotfl2:
There is this tiny little boulangerie (bakery) and we make it a point that as long as we arrive during its business hours, this is our first stop and first purchase.
May I add that we finished that whole baguette right there in the car! :lmao:

First we went to the Kyriad hotel to check out their store and low and behold they had a lot of new merchandise, so we made up our mind and got on the shuttle bus to the park to buy our new APs.
(Now, I think this needs some explanation. When we decided to do TWO cruises this summer AND upgrade our value resort reservations to OKW we were sure we would NOT go back to DLRP any time soon and we would NOT renew our APs. So they expired in December last year. Now, I have forever been waiting for a pin code for Walt Disney World and I never get one, but I seem to be on their good list for Disneyland Paris, because within 10 days I received two offers!! One for 20% off of an AP and the other one was good for 18 months of AP time instead of 12! First we joked that this was really tempting, but once we started joking we started checking flights and hotels and did the math and since we still had enough airmiles for free flights and found an affordable hotel we thought "What the heck, let's go!")
Guess what, while we were still on the bus I found out that I had forgotten the email with the 18 month pin in the car!! :headache: So off the bus we got at the final destination and went to wait for the next one, as the one we had just left went out of service. So we waited for another 10 minutes for the next bus, went back to the hotel, but this time we decided to just drive there and use their main parking lot.
Paid for parking, found a spot at the far end of the parking lot - no tram, only moving walkways and off we went to the ticket windows. Since there is always a looooooooong line at the Disneyland Park security checkpoint we went through the one at the Walt Disney Studios

We had to stop and take a few photos of the Disneyland hotel at the entrance to the park as the weather was SO wonderful and the sky just amazing!

Yes, that really was an EARLY flight! ;) But the reward is that you are in Paris at 10am, so we usually go it!
Lufthansa still caters quite well, even on such short flights! :goodvibes .. and they have a lot of flights a day to Paris, plus we are able to fly out of our hometown, which is so convenient when you have to go back to work the next day!

And yes, stupid me spent some time sitting on a stupid pink bus because I forgot to check if I had my pin-email. I had handed all my paperwork to Tom when he went to get the rental car and completely forgot about the email which was mixed right in with the other paperwork! :scared1:
But we got it in the end - oh the pressure of having an AP good until Nov 21st 2011! ;) Now we HAVE TO go back even more often - oh, how I "hate" the thought of that! :rotfl2:

So, after enjoying the view we headed over to the far right to use the guest relations window to buy our park tickets. Yikes! :scared1: We knew it was a holiday weekend, but we were not prepared for the long line there, so we decided we could well walk over to the regular ticket windows and try our luck there.

There was just one family ahead of us and within no time it was our turn to buy our temporary passes. I handed the CM my parking ticket, as they have always taken off the amount you paid for parking from the cost of your AP (AP DREAM comes with parking). Well, we were surprised to learn they don't do that any more - oh well, 12 € for exploring the parking lot!

Next thing we do is walk over to the turnstiles and a CM waves us over to her line where there is NO one ahead of us! I like it that way! ;) :rotfl:

And finally we enter Disneyland Park! And this is what we see -

DLRP APs are astonishingly affordable, even though they have just raised the prices! € 199,- for a year (or 18 months if you get a pin! :goodvibes) They even have real good discounts on the Disney hotels as well, if that helps!
What about joining us for the Halloween Party this year? We ARE booked already, :lmao:

And the park gets packed on certain holidays, let me tell you!! Last year we went for December 8 and that seems to be a real BIG holiday and the park was even closed. Tom and I sneaked in, :rotfl2: and it was shoulder to shoulder - I could not believe it! BTM waittime was 180 minutes - thanks, but no thanks!

Most signs at DLRP are in French and English. My French was learned so long ago it is "kind of" non existent. Fun thing is that I do understand and can read a lot still, but I can't speak it any more, LOL!
When we first travelled to DLRP there were much more French signs, but Europe has so many languages that even the French had to make peace with the English language! ;) :lmao:
And to answer your question - you would NOT have a problem there!!

DLRP APs are astonishingly affordable, even though they have just raised the prices! € 199,- for a year (or 18 months if you get a pin! :goodvibes) They even have real good discounts on the Disney hotels as well, if that helps!
What about joining us for the Halloween Party this year? We ARE booked already, :lmao:

And the park gets packed on certain holidays, let me tell you!! Last year we went for December 8 and that seems to be a real BIG holiday and the park was even closed. Tom and I sneaked in, :rotfl2: and it was shoulder to shoulder - I could not believe it! BTM waittime was 180 minutes - thanks, but no thanks!

Wow, I LOVE the Disneyland Hotel decked out in Christmas lights. It looks like such a classic Christmas icon!

DLRP is about 50 km (30 miles) from Charles de Gaulle airport. There is a shuttle bus from both airports CDG and Orly to Disneyland Paris, or you can travel on the RER (train). We always rent a car as it gives us a lot more mobility. I love to shop at the Auchan Market (like Publix) and there are always a few things we need to take home. Don't laugh, but we do buy our salt there. They have the most amazing salt - and we take home several containers of it. I also buy some jam and this last trip we managed to get hold of some glasses of Dijon Mustard. (They used to sell it here, but they have stopped selling it) :lmao:

Well, to be honest I think the writing on Main Street is a mix of English and French. The photo I posted was taken on Main Street and it is in French, menus usually are posted in French and English and most things in the shops have a French label. On the other hand many of the shops have the same English name - the Emporium is still the Emporium. Don't know if this answers your question.

Most CM do speak more or less English. Most do understand and if they don't they are quick to get someone who understands your language. Some of them even speak German and are so proud if they can show it off with us. The thing is that if I am asked for my preferred language Tom and I usually say English as German is "not very high" on their list! :rotfl: We have only come across a handful of CM who do NOT understand any English. (Yeah, Tom do you remember the one who only answered "ah, no" to every question. Our conversation ended in ....... "Are you a very clever person?" and the answer was - you guessed it "ah, no" - this cracked us up for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time!) :lmao:

Disneyland Paris, Day 1 continued

So we enjoyed our stroll down Main Street. I love strolling through the shops, so we hopped in and out of the shops and stopped at the barber shop to check the prices! We have never really taken notice of it, so it was fun to look at something “new”.

Once we made it to the hub there were lots more people and we decided that first of all we had to get our temporary passes exchanged. So we headed for the annual passholder’s office. There was quite a line, but at least there WAS a line, as in previous years there had been a number system and it had been very easy to miss your number being called in French and very broken English. We waited for about half an hour until it was our turn and we got our new APs, which are now good for 18 months! Once we had them in hand we walked over to Fantasyland to try and ride “something”, but even It’s a Small World had a rather lengthy line, so we just explored the shops and took in the sights and sounds.

We still needed to make a dining reservation for Sunday, so we walked back to Pirates of the Caribbean and the Blue Lagoon Restaurant to check out their menu.

Nothing drew us in so we decided to just head over to the Silver Spur Restaurant in Frontierland and check out their menu. We went back through Fantasyland and wanted to use the shortcut next to Casey’s when someone suddenly called out my name. One of my pupils had been taken to Paris as a confirmation present and had spotted us in the crowd. We briefly stopped to chat and she was all excited to be there and enjoyed her stay. Still stunned from meeting her we finally headed towards Frontierland and the Silver Spur Restaurant. The menu sounded tempting so we got a reservation for the next day. We were still trying to fit in at least one ride when we discovered that Phantom Manor had quite a line, so without any hope we went over to Big Thunder Mountain to check if they still had Fastpasses left. Low and behold they did, but they were for the evening. We picked up two Fastpasses as we wanted to return to the park in the evening anyway. By then it was going on 3pm and we still needed to check into our hotel/villa. Since there was nothing to ride anyway we walked back through the shops on the other side of Main Street and finally left the park.

It was a LONG and hot walk back to the car. We set our GPS and off we went. It took about 15 minutes and we were right in front of the guarded resort. Unfortunately you need a code to open the gate and we were really lucky as someone was just leaving the resort and we were able to get in. We walked to the reception which just opened its gates and checked in.

It was real easy, everything had been prepared and we were ready to check out our new home for the next two nights. It was a small house with two floors, furnished like all the French rental villas, with a kitchen and living room on the ground floor and two bedrooms, bathroom and toilet upstairs.

Ahh...an update to get me through the last moments of my long slog of a day! Its neat to see the pictures of DLRP. What is considered "homestyle cooking" by the way? Just curious.

Okay, I just posted another "little" update!

Homestyle cooking :rotfl:! Well, for the French it seems to include Mickey Pizza and Croque Monsieur (toasted ham and cheese sandwich)! :rotfl2:

The CS food at DLRP is NOT the very best. Most is McD's or Mickey Pizza (not very tasty to be kind) but they do have some real nice TS restaurants. They are VERY expensive though!
We did get to eat at the Silver Spur Steakhouse on day 2, so this is still to come and I love Walt's, an American Restaurant, which is on the second floor on Main Street - that is something that is really missing at WDW, a restaurant ON Main Street. We love it, when we score a window table and you can watch the Parade or the Character Caravan going up and down Main Street from there.

I guess you are referring to our vacation home. This is NOT Disney property, just your regular vacation home. So there is no special theming and things are rather more practical. It might not look all that inviting, but to have a whole house for yourself is a lot of space here in Europe. Hotel rooms are tiny!
It was our first time in this particular community and we were pleasantly surprised. :goodvibes

Thanks Kathy! I was so in awe with all the flowers there. The last few weeks before we went to Paris were so cold and wet here in Austria and then Paris was SO different and we enjoyed the wonderful weather and all the beautiful landscaping so much!

I can COMPLETELY understand about the salt. And frankly when you find the 'best' of anything, it's so fun to get it when you are there locally. For instance, I don't even smoke, but I love getting a 10 pack of cigarettes when I'm in London - the black pack with gold writing. Silly, I know... Of course, I'm sure we could all list about 10 things we MUST get at Disneyworld because it is the only place we have found it :)

I do NOT want to use this as an excuse, but we are getting toward the end of the school year and things are starting to get a little crazy and out of hand, therefore less time for my favourite two things - DISNEY and the DISboards! Sorry!
There are less than 4 weeks of school left and lots of things going on. I have two huge tests tomorrow, one class of 27 and one of 20 pupils. Their tests are 4 pages long and include two essays each - so this is something I am NOT looking forward too! Guess what I will be doing all next weekend, yeah, right, marking tests! :sad2:
On Thursday we have an all afternoon course, next week is just a regular week with no extras - I cannot believe it.
July 1st is excursion day - all day hiking! :scared1:
And the same week we will have our last teacher's meeting for the school year! :dance3:
July 5 starts "project week", and my class and I have decided that we would like to do some "together" time, so that day we will hike to a nearby village, try to climb up to the top of the old ruin there, have a picnic, hike back and end the day at 1pm.
Tuesday that week ALL pupils from our school will drive to Linz, the county capital for the festivities of the year of music. There will be choires all over town and we will walk from one to the other to enjoy their songs. We'll be off at 3pm that day!
Wednesday is going to be a fun and loooooooong day. My class and I have decided that we want to do a climbing adventure and we are going to visit a rope garden (www.seilpark.eu) closeby. We will only meet at 2pm in the afternoon, then drive to the rope garden, and enjoy our time there for 2 - 3 hours before we drive back to our school. The kids have asked me if I would possibly consider :rotfl2: spending the night with them at school and YES, we will spend the night at school. We will make pizza and popcorn and have a movie/football night at school. The next morning we will enjoy breakfast at school, hopefully provided by the parents association before we will hop over to the swimming pool from 9am to 12. I guess I will need some sleep after that - BIG time!
Friday, July 9th means going to church in the morning, handing our report cards and then I AM FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait!

So, now that I have given you an outlook on the future, here is a quick update on the past! ;) :lmao:
Long week with NO day off last week and on Saturday we had our teachers' outing, which means that we drive somewhere for the day. This year the teacher who organizes these trips (and loves beer) had the glorious idea to go and visit a brewery and then another and then another ........ you get the gist, :rotfl:! Long day for someone who does not like beer! :laughing:
When I got home a thunderstorm was about to start and right after a few minutes we had REAL heavy rain and high winds and it broke off two branches of our OLD walnut tree. We were SO lucky they did not fall on our garden shed and even worse on the neighbour's fence and shed!! We hope to have someone come in this week to clear the "debis".
Plus today is my day off and I hope to update today - :woohoo:

Yuki, you would be SO surprised at some of the "minimalistic" offerings of European hotels! :lmao:
Rooms are tiny and you only get the real "bear necessities", but the prices are more in the moderate region!
We love the US room sizes and the huge beds and all the other luxuries.
The village we stayed at in Paris was new to us and we love having lots of space and being able to self cater - so much yummy food there! ;)

I was amazed with all the changes at DLRP too! Especially the Studios part grows steadily and that's a real good thing, as there were not enough things to do there anyway.

The pizza is very basic factory made and tasting pizza. It does not help that they keep it sitting in the paper container for a while before they sell them. If you go in the winter they are only lukewarm and it does not help the flavour at all! :rotfl:
But I LOVE the shape!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

We were very happy with the size of the villa. Since this is my brother I am travelling with we need at least two beds and two "double" beds are even better.
And it makes you feel even saver staying in a guarded community. We love tasting new things and the supermarket was just a 5 minute drive away, so we REALLY enjoyed it there.

The pirate ship and skull rock are part of Adventure Isle and Pirates of the Caribbean is across the bridge on the far right on the map. It is a fun place to be at with caves and a play area on the ship, which also houses a snack bar.

We too love the fact that there are exactly the same rides, but yet they look and sometimes even feel different.
I just love BTM - it is one of my ALL time favourite rides in ANY Disney park we have been to, but I am SURE that the one at DLRP is the best! It is the longest and it takes you under water to Thunder Mesa, which is on an island, so you have kind of a dark ride included as well.
I just wish the CMs would spread just a little more pixie dust - you can tell, that most of them are just doing a job, while I often get the impression that CMs at DL or WDW love their job.

That rope garden terrifies me. Probably because I encountered something like that on a trip in Gr.8. I was holding onto a rope tied to the top of a tree, walking on a rope tied between two trees, to get to the other tree. I slipped, but held onto the rope and WHIP and CRACK, I hit another horizontally tied rope and nearly break my back. Not a good experience while you're hours away from home and won't be going home for another 3 days.

I hope you survive that week!

Great update, Karin. I totally sympathize about it being the end of the school year. We have eight more days with the students, then next Friday is a teacher day. Then I will be off for two weeks before we start summer academy, which runs for two weeks. After that, I'm off for three weeks. I have a pile of work to do, including planning that needs to get done for next year! Yet I can't seem to curb my internet addiction at night! :lmao:

Your villa looked lovely; but I love more modern architecture and styling. I can't get over the differences in DLRP from DW here. Looks so pretty!

Hang in there...summer break is coming for us all, I know it! :banana:

My pupils are all between 10 to 14 years old. Most of the boys and girls in my class are currently 12/13 years old. Tough age! ;) :laughing:

I do understand what you mean about the rope garden. I was a bit sceptic in the beginning but the kids all have to wear equipment to secure them on the rope. They have done something similar during our project week and loved it. But after reading your experience I REALLY hope we won't have any mishaps. :scared1:

Disneyland Paris, Day 1 continued

Now where did I stop last time ......... oh yes, we had just gotten to our villa.

Once we had checked it out and we were okay with it we then went back outside and got the car and brought our luggage into the villa. After chilling for a while we decided that we were both hungry and that it was time to do some shopping for groceries. So we headed out again, got in the car and drove to the bakery for more baguette and an éclair and another piece of choux pastry. Our next stop was the Auchan grocery story at Val d’Europe. It was hard to find a parking spot outdoors but once we headed to the garage there were plenty of spots to find. First we went to the Disney outlet that is there but there was nothing either reduced or new, so we went over to the grocery store to do our shopping. We just enjoy exploring the store, it is huge and there are so many things to look at. It took us about an hour to find everything we wanted, then headed for the cash desk and back to the car. Shortly before 6pm we returned back to our villa, laid the table and enjoyed our delicious dinner.

Once we were done we thought about going back to the park, since it was open until 10 pm and we still had about two hours of park time. But the early start to the day took its toll. After a few minutes we decided to just call it a day, watch a little more TV and have an early night, so we could have an early start to our only full day at the parks.

The supermarket where we shop sells some real yummy Camembert cheese - we love it! I actually cannot recall how much all the food was. I remember thinking that it was not expensive at all given the fact that we had two dinners and two breakfasts from it. :goodvibes

Disneyland Paris - Day 2

We woke up even before the alarm went off! A look outside the window showed a beautiful blue sky and the sun was shining brightly already. We both had a shower, got ready and headed over to the bakery for some fresh baguette for breakfast. Once we had found a spot to park our car we joined the line for fresh bread. Tom picked an almond pastry and I got two more éclairs as the bakery would be closed the next morning.

When we were back at our villa we made some tea and had a relaxed and wonderful breakfast.

The parks only open at 10am, so we thought we had plenty of time when we headed over to the parks shortly before 9am. Up until now we had always parked at the Disney hotels as this used to be a perk that had come with the annual pass, but since they took away that perk as well the main parking lot was the only option. So we headed there and hit a huge traffic jam at the toll station.

It took us nearly 20 minutes from the time we joined the lines until we actually went through the entrance to the parking lot. Right when it was Tom’s turn to park his car, they decided to leave about a third of the parking spots open and start a new line at the FAR FAR end of the parking lot. Well, we decided to give it a miss and try again, went all around the parking lot and got in line again, this time being pointed into a spot more than halfway down to the main walkway to the entrance.

We joined the masses who headed towards the entrance and were stunned on HOW many people were already there to get into the parks. Like the day before the security check at the Disneyland Park entrance was LONG, so we headed over to the Walt Disney Studios entrance and even though there was a line it was much shorter than the other one. So we got through there and finally up to the turnstiles shortly after 10am!

Once you enter the park there is this square where you can meet the characters and to the left and right are some shops and guest relations. Since it was quite packed with the characters being out and about we headed for the shop on the left side of the entrance and browsed through their stuff. Tom, the good sport that he is tried on a few of their hats. It would NOT be a complete trip to a Disney park, without a few hat photos! And this one is especially for my good friend Kathy!!

We then headed inside the first building which is kind of a walk through LA street set with another shop on the left and a restaurant on the right.

It was packed in there as well and we slowly walked through the shop and out into the park. Our first stop was the Tower of Terror to pick up a fastpass.

We then walked pasted the new part of the park, which is supposed to open in late summer. You can already see parts of the new rides but not enough for a good photos. We then walked past the Cars ride and the Crush ride, which had another long line to the Sorcerer hat and the animation studios.

We walked through Discoveryland and people were shoving each other along the way. There was no way to get in on any ride so we just decided to try and get to our lunch reservation early. We were half an hour early, had to wait for about 10 minutes while they were seating walkups!

Pupils AND teachers then have a 9 week break. No summer school or else - just 9 weeks paid leave! :cloud9:
We start our new school year on September 13th - guess when we return from WDW - September 12th - and there is a 6 hour time difference. Should make for a "fun" first Monday, back at school! :rotfl2:

Another great update, Karin! I'm telling you...I am going to miss you so much when you're here, but can't wait for your TR after your summer trip. That is going to be epic. All the food looked great...very French. Maybe you can answer a question for me: do they sell bottled salad dressing in France? Just curoius. Weird, I know!

In answer to your question, yes, I am teaching during my "holiday". I work in an inner-city school where the kids come in several grade levels behind where they should be, so they have a couple of weeks of school in the summer to help catch them up. Its really only one small part of what we do, but there it is! I still get more time off than most people, though, so I can't complain.

DLRP is absolutly beautiful, and you were deffinetly right about BTM being better (or at least it looks that way). Someday im going to make it there (college maybe?)

They had such a lot of fun window decorations and I especially loved the "Napoleon" Stitch one!

Please keep in mind that we visited at a LONG holiday weekend (Whitsunday) and the parks are ALWAYS real crowded on holidays.
Because of the holiday they stay open late (10pm - yes that IS open late! :lmao:) but 10am is regular opening time.
They don't have Evening Extra Magic Hours, just Morning ones and then there are only Dumbo, Peter Pan and the Caroussel that are open. So no big deal to go there, the only :thumbsup2 thing that makes it worthwile is that you can get a shot of the castle without lots of people in the picture as they rope off the area at the hub.

Yes, totally interesting first day of school! :rotfl2: But to be honest we did it the same way last year and day 1 worked out quite well, even though I asked a friend to pinch me should I fall asleep during the teachers' meeting. :lmao:
And to answer your questions (never mind asking them - I love learning new things too!) - YES, pupils go back to school the same day as the teachers do. There is a mass to start the new school year with and then the pupils stay on for another 2 hours. Teachers have a break then we have a meeting, which usually ends around 2 - 3pm.
The thing last year was, that even though I was able to sleep the first night back home, come day 2 my body was still on US time and I just could not fall asleep at night, so I was pretty beat the next few days.
But since Tom doesn't have a chance of getting another week off to "recover" from a vacation we decided to both suffer through WDW withdraw and work! ;) :rotfl2:

Subscribing - just sat here and read this for about an hour - think my boyfriend thinks I am a total weirdo now :rotfl:

Yes, Sunday was crazy busy, but we knew that it was a holiday weekend and expected the crowds.
A year or two ago we went to Paris and Disneyland Park was actually closed, because it was at capacity! It was even worse than!
Plus we didn't expect to just walk on rides, so we were alright with it.
It's not the whole month of May that is so busy, it is just the weekend and holidays! :rotfl2: The only time we can go! :rotfl: :lmao:

Once again i could move to europe just for the food (not that RI food isn't good :rotfl:)!
DLRP is absolutly beautiful, and you were deffinetly right about BTM being better (or at least it looks that way). Someday im going to make it there (college maybe?)
Hopefully you'll be able to get through your busy schedule! Keep your eye on the prize: summer vacation and Disney!!!

:thumbsup2 European food is real yummy! Lots of variety - and not that I am biased - but Austrian food is the VERY best! ;) :worship:

The food all looks so great! I'm jealous! What a comparison to our fried junk here!

Stitch is one of my favorite Disney characters; I'm in love with those display statues! I just sent that post to DH and told him that he must somehow figure out how to bring those statues to our home. Haha. (He did buy me a stuffed Angel to go with my Stitch on our last trip, but not NEARLY as good enough as those statues!)

No need to be jealous! CS in the parks is your usual McD, pizza and prepackaged salads, nothing to write home about. But French food in general is very nice. That's why we like to have either a TS meal in the park or self catering. :goodvibes

Hm, maybe if your DH can't bring those statues to your home, maybe he can take YOU to them - DLRP is real nice!! ;) :laughing:

Disneyland Paris - Day 2 continued

There was no way to get in on any ride so we just decided to try and get to our lunch reservation early. So we headed over to Frontierland for our reservation at the Silver Spur Steakhouse.

The Silver Spur Steakhouse is right opposite the Riverboat! (A)

We were half an hour early, had to wait for about 10 minutes while they were seating walkups! We were then finally led to a two top and our server came around quickly to ask for drinks. Soft drinks are pretty expensive in the parks and there are NO free refills in the restaurants, so we opted for a bottle of water. We both decided on going with a menu and Tom got the Cowboy’s Menu and I chose from the Sheriff’s Menu.

For his starter Tom got the Salmon Three Ways, which included salmon mousse, smoked salmon, “graved lachs” and toast. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the menu, so I don’t know what this is really called.

My starter was the Chicken Cesar salad, which is really nice. The dressing is very well seasoned and the chicken was moist and slightly warm.

Then our server brought out some rolls, but we did not even try them.

For his main course Tom chose the 58 hour beef. All I remember about it is that it was “cooked” slowly for 58 hours and it was very tender and yummy. It came with herb mashed potatoes and horseradish sauce.

I went for the Grilled Rumpsteak with Roquefort sauce and Steakhouse fries and a grilled tomato. They always underdo the meat, so it was more to a medium rare than medium, but it was still very nice. The sauce was real strong, but it was nice to dip the fries in. I didn’t like the grilled tomato as it tasted like gingerbread! Don’t know what spices they used, but it was a bit odd.

For his dessert Tom than ordered the Pineapple Carpaccio with lime sorbet, which was a perfect match! The sweet pineapple paired with the tart lime was wonderful.

I had opted for the Pecan and Caramel Chocolate Cake with Chocolate sauce. Wonderful but heavy! I was not able to finish it all! Once we had finished our desserts we asked the waitress for the bill and showed her our annual passes as there is a 10% discount. She disappeared and we did not like how long it took for her to reappear as we wanted to head over to the Studios park for the Stars and Motor Cars Show. Once she was back she kind of ignored us and we had to ask again for the bill. Well, after some time she brought it, but she had forgotten the discount and now she had to go find a manager to correct her mistake. It took her another 10 minutes to do so and time seemed to fly by until the parade. Well, the manager did the trick and applied the discount, we paid and left in a hurry. Thankfully we know some of the shortcuts and were out of the park in no time. We found an open turnstile no one wanted to use and were inside the Studios without any wait! So far, so good! Now, on to find a spot for the show.

Last time we were there to watch the Show it was announced as a parade and we waited along the route not knowing that they stopped at the stage and had a dance routine! This time we knew better! We found a spot right opposite the stage, with only people sitting on the ground and some kids in front of us and we waited for about 15 minutes for the show to start. Some people started pushing their kids and themselves in front of the sitting people, but thankfully one of the CMs stepped in and told them to go back. I don’t mind having a kid stand in front of me, but I am not happy with their parents barging in front of myself, if I have stood and waited. So, if you asked yourself where the Stars and Motorcars Parade went once they stopped it in the Hollywood Studios, then come to the Walt Disney Studios and you will find it. The cars rolled in, the passengers all got out and went up on stage.

They use the same music they had in WDW with a few changes and all the characters sing and dance and put on quite an act. After the show the characters stayed around to sign autographs but we made our way over to the Tower of Terror to use our Fast Passes.

That salmon appetizer looks so good! And that 58hr beef makes me wanna slow cook some beef for dinner tomorrow.

I can't believe that waitress too so long. Maybe she was new and just had no idea how to AP discount worked, so assumed you weren't right? Some people can be like that.

That's such a great show! So many characters you wouldn't normally see

The food at the Silver Spur is very nice! I need to dig up some photos from the inside of the restaurant - it is very rustic and has an open grill.

I don't know WHAT was wrong with the waitress! :rolleyes: She seemed to have issues with nearly every table (the manager was around a lot! :lmao:) and I would not have minded so much if we hadn't wanted to go see the show which was "in the other park". ;)

The shows they have on are very nice. There are always a lot of characters involved. And the Cars and Stars show was pretty neat! Loved to hear the music too - it holds so many fun WDW memories. :thumbsup2

Yip, it is a fun show and they pull out all the stops - SO many characters, we were impressed.

I don't mind the kids standing in front of me, but it is the parents who push themselves in front of me. And if you say something, they tell you that their kid "is up there"! :confused3
We noticed that a lot in Europe (Europapark, Warner Bros. DLRP), but this time it was just overwhelming.

We haven't been to the French park for a very long time and I would like to go over for a couple of the days later this year

We have only ever been in the Winter and it's always been freezing !!!

If you can fit DLRP in you HAVE to go visit! ;) A lot of things have changed, especially in the Studios Park.
Tom and I are AP holders and go several times a year - it's our little escape from reality! :goodvibes
But we are stuck with the official holidays and usually the parks are packed on those days!
Oh, and by the way - winter IS freezing! We have seen the waterfalls completely frozen and one time it started to snow when they were making "fake" snow on Main Street! :rotfl2: Like Mother Nature was showing them how to do it! :lmao:

BTMR actually starts on the "main land" :lmao:, then takes you into a tunnel under the River and actually runs around the little island in the middle. Before you get back you go into another tunnel and you get off on the "main land" side again. I love my BTMR!! I think the one in DLRP is the best.

Yes, we are getting close to our trip - only 53 more days! It seems like nothing considering that we started our countdown at 350 days!! :scared1:

If you look at the maps (links above) than you'll see that there are a lot of rides in Disneyland Park - there are even a few ones that are unique to DLRP - the Indiana Jones Roller Coaster comes to mind or Amargeddon in the Studios, and some rides just can't be done - it's far too cold for a Splash Mountain, on the other hand Space Mountain is a real WILD rollercoaster! It blasts you off and is far wilder than its WDW sibling!

The Studios are still rather small and have a lot of shows - Cinemagique, Animagique, Stitch live, Lights Motors Action and a Backlot Tour, but they are currently building more things to ride. One of the big thrills currently is the Crush ride - where you get strapped into a turtle shell and ride the rip currents of Australia! The shell spins while you ride the roller coaster - so much fun - such long lines! :laughing:
