Caribbean Beach Resort ** NEWS & VIEWS **
There is so much going on revolving around the Caribbean Beach Resort (CBR) that we would like to "stick" this thread at the top of the resorts board and encourage you to post your news and views about the closing on this one thread.

This will help to keep all the info together in one place.

This is from Mary's Mousesaver site:

"Reportedly the Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney World will close for refurbishment of its Old Port Royale and pool area from approximately September 8, 2002 to December 1, 2002.

If you have reservations at this resort, DON'T PANIC and DON'T CALL DISNEY! The smartest thing you can do is to sit tight and wait for Disney to contact you. Disney will work systematically through the affected reservations, beginning with the earliest ones. Guests will be offered alternative accommodations."

I called CRO to use a code on my Dec. 11-Dec. 14 reservation and I don't think it's going to be affected by the closure. We'll keep our fingers crossed that they can get the work done by early December!!! :smooth:

CRO, yesterday, also took deposits on existing ressies 12/14 - 12/19, without a problem. I think you are right. They are playing it safe, by not taking new ressies, but I also get the impression that they will be ready, or at least think they will 12/1.

If it does work out, that should make for a very uncrowded stay in December. I would bet that they would begin taking December ressies again. once they see how thing progress, but who would book them with the uncertainty?

I booked through Dreams so I don't know if I'll hear from Disney directly or not. I LOVE Dreams but I'm worried about whether or not they'll be able to handle this. They've probably already got a lot on thier plates because of it. My travel agent sent me an email yesterday and I wrote her back but I haven't heard anything yet...and I usually get a relpy back pretty fast. I'm so confused and I don't know what to do. I've heard great stories about how people were offered great upgrades and I've also heard the stories of the people who had a hard time. I just don't want someone calling the day before we leave saying that there are no rooms available anywhere. We're leaving in a little over a month and I'm worried everything will be all booked! Surely they'll take care of the people who it immediatly effects first won't they???

Disney will call Dreams Unlimited about your reservation. Your agent will contact you once he/she has talked with Disney's Special Services team and report what Disney is offering for your travel dates. You can then make your decision and your agent will make the changes with Disney. When this happened with Port Orleans French Quarter, Disney contacted guests (or their travel agents) in the order of their travel dates. So Disney will be contacting those guests scheduled to arrive in early September first and so on.

I agree with your post. I have reservations for 12/12 - 12/19 and I was able to use the discount codes for CBR. I hope the workers at CBR know how much we are all routing for them to finish the project on time!:earsgirl:

Okay, so I couldn't stand it anymore. I made my alternative resort decision and went ahead and called the WDTC on the Disney Club 800 number today.

After telling the CM what I wanted and why, she transferred me over to one of the CM's on the CBR calling team.
The lady I spoke with couldn't have been more helpful, and I had absolutely no problem switching over to CS.

I know that I axed my self out of a possible upgrade, but you know what, I don't care. I felt a huge weight come off of me just knowing that I have a CONFIRMED resort now, and that at least I was able to get my second choice rather then possibly getting offered my third or fourth choice ;-)

My personality is one that really needs the peace of mind I now have. So if there are any of you out there like me, I suggest you go ahead and call..............
If you are lucky enough to have patience of steel, then you may want to wait for the call and hopefully you will get a upgrade ;-)
I personally won't be begrudging anyone who gets better than me.

Good luck!!!
Chris

PS.
I also went ahead and called to make my Priority Seating arrangements today. Boy, that was FUN!!! I am in a Disney frame of mine again, yahoo !!!

Congrats on getting CSR!! I don't know if you have stayed there before or not, but we were there in March, and we absolutely loved the resort.

Have a great time!!

I think you made a good choice too - we also moved ourselves to a different resort instead of waiting for the call, a gamble - possibly, but worth it for us.

The one thing about this that is so funny though is while I understand the disappointment in not getting to stay where you orignallywanted - I remember back to the days when you sometimes didn't have a choice - back in 98 we were placed at CSR because that was all that was available - I didn't want to stay there at first, but ended up really loving CSR. We didn't even have the option of our first choice because it was full. So I think of this situation kind of like that - its a stretch, but at one time the resorts were so full you didn't get much of a choice. We really did end up liking CSR very much though.

Honestly all the moderates are nice - and its all WDW. Hope you enjoy CSR!

CBR / Disney made me an offer today!

:p Hey everyone, here it is. I do have ressie's for the CBR for Nov. 22 to Dec.7th. That is 15 nights. I made my ressie's back in January of this year. I also had them make alot of notes on my ressie's do to some health problems. Disney at the time was able to help me. This morning i called the CRO, going through my Disney Magic Club. I spoke with CA and ask her to please help me with the ongoing problem with the closing of CBR. She took a look at my ressie's and saw where there had been notes made and how far in advance that I had booked my trip. I also told her that since i would be there for the Thanksgiving Holiday, that I am afraid that i will be displaced somewhere that I may not want to go. The girl was very very nice, and she ask me if I would mind to hold. She said I will get you moved up on the calling list, as they started to contact the people today. I said I will wait. with a few minutes, I was on the phone with the special team of people from there marketing company that are making the calls. Here is what I was offered. To move over to another Moderate Resort. Or for $10.00 more a night, I could go to the AKL. For $20.00 more a night, I could go to the Polynesian. Wow, I got the Polynesian for $109.00 a night. I am so excited about what I got. I will be there for 15 nights. i also have all of my new confirmation numbers as well. Maybe it is worth a try for those of you who will be there for the Holidays, to go ahead and make that call. Oh, I also said to the CA, well maybe I should just cancell my trip.... I said Geeze Disney sure is going to loose alot of money from me, with shopping, eating in the parks, the dinner show's etc. That all adds up. The special dept. did tell me that they are starting to run out of rooms to offer fot the Thanksgiving holiday. I would push on Disney "NOW" to make your Holiday ressie's.

Glad that you were able to get your resort relocation done so easily!!! For the extra $10 at the AKL & $20 at the Poly, what 'view' would you be getting?? I hope that making the switch will be as easy for all of us!!! Have a great vacation!!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

we have ressies at CBR (or HAD) Wednesday, 11/27 to Sunday, 12/1 and I too am afraid there won't be any rooms left by the time they get to me. I don't have any special circumstances, just a non smoking room...

Should I wait, or should I have my travel agent call? I'd be willing to pay an extra $20 for the poly, I'd love the CR, but I know THAT will Never happen!! After reading some of the boards, I was going to wait, now I don't know what to do???????

thanks, J :-)

I hope your are right! I tried booking CBR on 8/4 for Jan 4-10, 2003 but they were not accepting any reservations for Jan because of the rehab. Booked PO, but will keep an eye on these boards and hopefully be able to switch to CBR

Our reservations are 12/14-19 and when I called to put my deposit down, the CM told me that they were notified just that morning that they would be renovating CBR and would I like to switch to another resort.! I told her that I would keep my current reservation for right now and just pay the deposit. What do you think of that? I was quite taken by surprise since I read that the were hoping to get everything done by Dec. 1. Then she springs that on me! We'll just wait and see. BTW, I was reading 'another site' (sorry), and someone said they already got the call and were upgraded to the Poly for an additional $33.00 total. Not by nite, but total! I'll be patiently waiting!!

Congratulations, I'm sure that you will love the poly. That is also a dream resort for me. I have a difficult time justifying the extra expense so I usually stay at a mod or AS. Almost wish I was holding reservations so that I could make the choice. We stayed at CBR for 4 nights 4/02 and loved it. But we did visit Poly and AKL and would have happily switched for a $10-20 difference. Have a GREAT trip.:D

Well, we decided to go ahead and call CRO to see if we could get our reservations changed since CBR was going to be closed during our 11 night stay. They offered to move us to PO for no charge. Then they offered AKL standard for $10 more a night. I asked if there were any other Deluxes available for an additional charge and was offered AKL savannah view or Polynesian standard for $20 more a night - after a short discussion between my DH and one DS they decided on ... the Polynesian!!!!!! We've been bouncing off the walls - Polynesian for $109 a night!!!!!!!

Our stay is during Sept-Oct so we wanted to go ahead and get it changed before everything filled up. I tried to be as nice as possible and the CM (Cotton was her name) was extremely helpful and glad to help us out. I guess if your reservation at the CBR is relatively soon it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and call - if you don't like what you hear, just say you'll wait on your call from Disney.

Good luck

$109 for the Polynesian is AWESOME!

I'm glad Disney is, in my opinion, handling this in an appropriate way; offering such a good deal because of the closing of CBR

I was nervous about calling because I was afraid they would not give us any options except switching to another moderate. I can relax and really start planning what we are going to do during our stay. This will really help with our character meals (CRT & Chef Mickey's). With 2 boys (7&4), it will be great to be able to transport the stroller and other "stuff" we will need using the monorail, as well as to be able to watch the fireworks and the electrical water parade from the beach and then get them into bed at a decent hour.

I truly believe that there is no WDW vacation decision that is more personal than where you choose to rest your weary head.
It is after all....your "home away from home"....

We all must base our initial hotel decisions on what we are able to afford...be it a value, moderate, deluxe etc...

I salute you....AND ALL OTHERS...who spend sooooo much time...deciding where their "home" will be while at WDW.....I can almost guarantee that you have spent many months and countless hours planning and budgeting meals around this resort...

Its "unforseen" closure means that you may now have to "re-do" your whole trip....the inconvenience can be truly enormous....

You chose CBR...as did I...and thousands of others...for very personal reasons....and now...you find yourself at the Poly....!!!

What might have first seemed to be a "huge disappointment" ....is now a true "blessing in disguise".....PIXIE DUST IS ALL AROUND YOU!!!!!!!

I couldn't be more happier for you (unless of course....if I were at WDW at this moment)!!!!....

If they offer me an upgrade to the Poly....I will most certainly take it.....BUT....I would rather rest "my" sleepy head at the CBR

 :( :o :o :o :o :o

This is our first trip staying at WDW (2nd trip to Disney) and wouldn't you know it I picked CBR for Oct. I'm wondering if they are only giving the upgrades for those with the longer stays. By the way, I very happy for those who already got this rate!! I'm booked for three nites and would be absolutely blown away if they offered us the Poly for $20 more a nite. We will be there over Columbus Day Holiday. I don't know if I can sit tight? Holidays sound very busy. I was beginning to lose the so called "magic" after I read they were closing CBR. We were very excited about a beach resort. I hope this has a happy ending. I hope Disney is fair and treats all of their clients equally.

First of all ...

Welcome to the DIS!

I think the general consensus is that you should sit tight and let Disney call you. You may be offered an upgrade to a deluxe. If there are no moderates left, it should be a free upgrade. Otherwise, you may be offered an upgrade at a slightly higher price.

There has been a lot of talk about this very thing. You might want to use the search feature and type in "upgrade" and look in the resorts board only.

So really, I am impressed at the first happy ending I've seen with this situation. Since you're new I thought I'd spare you the search for the thread.

To be honest, I would probably have your significant other make a res at the preferred alternative (via a means with a reasonable cancellation policy!) and keep your current reservation. If you don't like the offer Disney makes you have a fallback. If you do like the offer, cancel the other. Either way you're covered for a situation that you didn't cause.

Good luck!

We were offered 3 basic options - stay in a moderate (PO) for the same price, upgrade to AKL standard for $10 more a night or upgrade to either AKL Savannah or Poly. standard for $20 a night. We decided to call after seeing some others success. We are staying at the Polynesian for $109 a night for 11 nights.

Hearing that you were given the option of the Poly (the only delux we were really considering) for such a great price just confirms my decision that my travel agent is an idiot. I called her yesterday to warn her of the CBR closing (at which we are or were scheduled to spend 10 days for our honeymoon) and that she should wait for their call. I also told her if they offered an upgrade to take it especially if it was the poly. So what does she do but imidiately call and transfer our ressies to another moderate, thereby dissmissing us from the possible upgrades even though I specifically told her to wait. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally happy for all of you who are going to benifit from this, I think it's great. I just wish my agent had listened to me (I didn't have one at all) because this whole thing just puts a major damper on my honeymoon. :( Congrats to those who are able to make changes to please them and good luck to those of you still waiting.

wareagle.. at the risk of sounding really dumb... $20 extra a night or $20 per person/ per night? My CBR package through Delta Vacations was a really good deal, that it wasn't worth changing for the codes which came out recently

So I'm just wondering if I should budget an extra $40 or an extra $80???

thanks for your help and Good Luck everyone... we'll be fine, the phone calls have started and it looks like a lot of families are transferring over to POR themselves.

Don't worry, Princess_Aurora. They haven't called me or my agent yet either and my vacation begins in 38 days. Everyone on this thread called them first. If you choose to go the sit tight route (probably the better choice for the low demand period of September), its going to take a little longer. I am hoping to hear something within a few days.

I'm jumpy about this too, but I am trying to assume the best until Disney gives me a reason to do otherwise.

Jenfur ...

I'm with you. I was all set to "sit tight" and let the upgrades come to me. Now, people are getting the Poly for $109 by calling. I guess ... we could call and feel CRO out about things and then tell them to leave the reservation alone if nothing good is offered.

Barb: I am not affected by this, but I am wondering if CRO has their act together. (I know, I know -- don't get people started about THAT topic! ;) )

Anyway, I just saw this post: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=245073

I also recall reading another person indicating that they called CRO and were offered the Poly for something like $10 more a night.

It just makes me wonder what is going on. Certainly Disney should have been much more pro-active about this -- since this could become a PR nightmare. Even more so now, they should ensure that everyone working at CRO is aware of what they can offer as far as upgrades, prices, etc.

I know that someone said that Disney Management and Logic got a divorce in the mid-90's, but maybe it's time for a reconciliation!

When I called this morning - I called the 800 Disney Club number. I asked if she could help with our Caribbean resort switch or did I have to 'wait' for the call. She said that we were supposed to wait - but that she would try switching me to the 'special team'. The girl that came on the line was very helpful - said that I could switch to another moderate resort - I said that I wasn't interested in any of them & asked what up-grades were being offered. She then asked me "where I would like to stay" - I said either the Animal Kingdom Lodge or the Poyl. She said that they started making calls yesterday & that it was 'ok' for people to be calling themselves!!!!! I would try calling - if you don't get what you want - tell them to keep the reservation that you have as is & wait for the call - or try calling back again later!!! šoš šoš

I just called 2 times. The first time I called the woman said she couldn't do anything for me and I would have to wait. I explained that some people have called and got Poly but she told me I have to wait, she was nice but firm.
I am on the phone now (for the last 22 minutes) and I was "switched" to another dept. The woman on the phone said the Poly is not available for my dates
(10/11-14). My mom, sister and kids will all be at Contemporary for Oct. 11-17, while husband and I are on a cruise. I thought it would be great if we were all on the monorail.
Anyway, she said that Poly is all booked for my dates (I am sure somewone from here will get it for those dates though) but she can offer me AKL, standard view for $110 per night, this includes tax. I took it. I figure I was already booked at CBR and if I were to be at a deluxe I would stay either monorail or BC (which we just stayed at last Aug and loved) and this is a resort I don't think I would try without the great rate.
Anyway, for $110 per night, incl. tax. I think I did good. What do you think! :)

I am soooo glad I called this morning and did not wait for Disney to call me! I wanted to switch to the Polynesian for our stay, but two of our nights were already SOLD OUT!! I was very, very disappointed! I did manage to get our first two nights at AKL savannah view for $110/night, and our last night at the Polynesian for $110, but I sooo wanted our entire stay to be at the Polynesian! I'm not that thrilled about the AKL, but I know I will NEVER be able to get a savannah view this cheap again, so I booked it. So, if you have a reservation, do not wait, go call RIGHT NOW or you might not get your first choice! We are going in September, too, so it was not even a holiday weekend/week or anything, and the rooms at the Polynesian were gone! (I am assuming they have a block of rooms available for this--I can't believe the entire resort could be sold out!). What I was offered was a switch to another moderate, or I could upgrade to WL, AKL, or Polynesian. I think standard veiw at AKL or WL would have been $100/night, and savannah view at AKL turned out to be $110/night (as was a standard room at the Polynesian). I originally booked CBR with a discount rate of $88, so I don't know if that affected the rates I was offered. Anyway, GO CALL!!!!!!Do not wait!!

Called CRO myself for CBR move. Really wanted upgrade to Poly since my mom, sister and kids will be in Contemporary (dh and I taking quick trip before a cruise and leaving kids at WDW with my mom and sister). Told Poly not availalbe for my dates (but I am sure someone here will get it for those dates anyway). Was given AKL-standard view for $110 including tax a night.
Will I be happy? I've stayed off-site at HIFS, All Stars and last Aug. at BC which we loved. It is just my husband and me, since we will meet mom, sister and kids at Contemporary in the mornings. For $110 incl. tax a night I don't think I could do much better at a DTD hotel, do you? Do you think I made the right choice or should I get a hotel at DTD? We will have our car and as we always do, we plan on using it to get to the parks. Do standard views have balconies? Does standard mean I won't see any animals? Not really a big deal, just want to know what I booked. Is there a better standard to request prior to check in than another?
Thank you all for any info. I will also do a search. :)

I called my agent back and she didn't remember that I told her WDW would call her about the resort change. I told her what I heard was offered on here and what I wanted and she said she would try to call and switch it and call me back. I have a bad feeling about this though. I am just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope it doesn't get screwed up even more. Thanks for your advice.

Hey everybody, stop calling them -- you're making the lines busy so I can't get through! :p I just talked to a very nice CM at CRO who gave me the story about the special team calling us. I asked if it was possible for her to try to transfer me to them and she did. After about 10 minutes on hold she told me she had tried two different numbers and they're busy. She said I should keep trying. I'll be happy if I just get moved to CSR, but I've got to try for the Poly since this seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I got excited by all the Poly posters and my resolve to wait melted. I called through the DC line, asked to transferred to the team. CM reminded me I'd be called, but said she'd try--couldn't guess how long I'd wait. On hold for 5 minutes and then began the 30 minute relocation phase. I was offered CSR, and POR, declined and the search for deluxes was on. The CM did notice my AP rate, and said what a deal for CB. Don't know if that affected the next rates. Was offered AKL standard for 121, WL for 121, and finally Poly for 132. I whimpered a bit, but she said the Food and Wine Festival had the YC and BC full, and there were several golf tournaments for my 10/25 and 26 dates. So after many interruptions of being on hold I took the Poly. Feel better after checking the AP rates. It's still $55 less than the AP.

Now I'm starting to breathe again. I don't know when I could have managed to stay at the Poly. Even tho it's not 109, it's wonderful!!:bounce:

This news is very encouraging. We were hoping to stay in the Epcot area, so AKL for $20.00 more sounds pretty good. I'd rather stay at the Poly, but as I said we want an Epcot resort. Any chance of a deal for The Beach Club?? I haven't seen any posts to that effect yet! I'd LOVE to stay there and would gladly pay another 20-30 bucks a night!

No, I don't think you could do better at a DTD resort. Why would you think that?:) Standards have balconies and you can't see the animals from the majority of them. I remember reading a post from someone who said she had an obstructed view of the animals, but she might have had a savannah view that couldn't be sold as a savannah.

Don't worry about the location. Animals are in full view all around the resort. Besides, how many animals were you going to see out of your CBR window?:) Have a nice trip.

I was ready to cancel and just book the $25 a night Marriott but my husband is making me wait. I told him what I read on here about some people getting the Poly for $109 and he wants me to wait it out and try for the Poly.

He really wants the atmosphere, I guess :)

We are going 9/29 - 10/3 - at least that is a slow time so hopefully they will call before the Poly gets booked up.

I really wanted a beach for my dd so the other three moderates aren't what I want .....

Can any of you tell me how you got that great rate?

I had originally booked CBR with the AP rate of $88/night and I was offered Polynesian for $110, or AKL/WL standard for $100, or AKL Savannah for $110. The Polynesian was not available for our entire stay, so I had to split between AKL savannah and Polynesian. What was the original rate you had at CBR?

I orginally used the Disney Club code of ZWKL (or something like that) which I got off Mary's Mousesavers.com site.

I'm not complaining....$140 is still a great price for the Poly, but it would be even more 'magical' at $109!

I just called the 800 dc reservation line, and all she would do was tell me over and over that someone would be contacting me this week. I told her I was worried they would run out of rooms and she said that they had been instructed to tell everyone to wait for Disney to call them.

I have already stayed at POFQ and my trip partner has alreadystayed at PORS and CSR. We were really hoping to try something new this trip :(

I can't stand the waiting.

Since I am arriving shortly after Thanksgiving, I called CRO regarding my ressie at the Caribbean Beach. Spoke to a very nice CM in the Guest Services department. I told her that I have ressies already at the Wilderness Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Lodge (going to WDW for 16 days) and was wondering what they were offering guests. I was very patient and very polite and after reviewing my ressie, she offered me the Polynesian for $109/night (includes tax) for a Garden View room. I am so VERY excited!!! Having never stayed at the POLY before, this is going to be a great trip. Knew Disney would not let me down. Now I need to learn everything I can about the POLY from all you experts!!!

I must have missed a posting on this one...I keep reading about people getting Poly for $109...is this because they booked CBR and are being upgraded to Poly due to CBR renovations?

Terk-1, sounds like you were not booked at CBR and it worked for you...did you have a code or anything?

Well ... I just got off the phone with a wonderful CM. Unfortunately, I wasn't offered a fantastic deal :(. I'm going over Christmas and they think that CBR will be availble by then, so no $20 Poly upgrade for me. They offered me $1187 for 5 nights or $214 per night plus tax. I understand that's a good deal for the Poly at Chrsitmas, but it's more than double what we're paying now and I can't afford it. I'll just rejoin the "sit tight" crew and hope for a call in December :).

Any of the moderates for the same price. Ours was $110/night including tax.

Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom for $121/night including tax. Standard view.

Savannah View at AK or garden at Poly for $132/night including tax.

Finally Fort Wilderness Cabin for $126.50/night including tax.

How was everyone else getting $109 at the Poly for the same time?

I just got off the phone with the most wonderful CM. I had the $79 a night rate at CBR. He got me the AKL Savannah view for $99 a night or $110 with tax. I am so excited. After many failed attempts to get through I passed the effort to the DW who was able to get right through to the CBR task force.

We are in the Poly for for $99 a night before tax, $109.98 after tax. 12/14 for 6 nights.

She was even able to get two other reservations of family members changed at the same rate.

My head is going to explode I am so excited. I was going to break the budget and stay at WL for this trip. However, by the time I finally talked myself into it, WL was full. Although slightly disappointed, I quickly gained momemtum and excitment when we got CBR at such a great rate. Now this.

I called and talked to the CBR special team member and she said yes that we could talk about the move. She offered me any of the other resorts for the same price or....AKL, WL or Poly for 20.00 more. I jumped on the Poly and my reservations are now secure. I'm now relaxed and will not worry until then. You also get a new reservation number. I also did all my request with her. So anybody that's worried I say call and ask for the CBR special team member. They will first verify your reservation number and then put you on hold for the next CM. Good Luck!

Those were some of the rates I was offered, too. Nothing about Savannah view or Wilderness Cabin (Good thing--DH may have wanted that!). I chose the Poly for the $132.

Someone mentioned to me that it's Regular, not Value season, and that figures into it, I'm sure. My dates are 10/25 and 10/26.

js,I love the AKL and I think that's a great deal! The only thing I'd say about a standard room is that you might want to request an upper floor, in order to avoid the few standard rooms next to the bus stop ( or just tell them you don't want those rooms). I think the upper floors might be quieter in a std, also you'd be missing out on a lot of magic if you traded this for a DTD hotel.

The AKL is beautiful, very unique. You won't be able to view animals from a std room but there are lots of common areas to relax in. And who knows? Perhaps you'll get a comp upgrade when you arrive.

I'm really glad to hear that this is working out pretty well for everyone! Wouldn't you know - we just stayed at CBR in April so I booked POR for Oct - no upgrade for me :( . But I'm very happy for all of you!

Have magical trips!

Help me. I'm trying to switch my CBR reservation for 11/1 - 11/6. After seeing all of the great rates you all are getting for the Poly I thought I'd give it a shot. I've called twice, first time I was given a rate of $167.50/night, the second time I was given a rate of 173.17/night. Both are great rates, but not the rates I've seen here.

What am I doing wrong??? I'm nice, patient, kind and polite on the phone. We have a room only reservation with two adults a 10 and 5 year old. Also members of the Disney Club.

I'd love to switch at thoses rates, but dh is a thrifty one, so I'll be at one of the other moderates, which is fine, but what's up???

Is it wrong to say, "why are other people being quoted better rates?" Just wondering.

Just wanted to share my news...I called because I am going to be out of town next week...at Disney (see below!). My CBR dates are 9/26-9/29. I got Ivana at CRO and she was so nice. She put me on hold, came back on and said it might be a few minutes, "did I want to continue to hold?" I said yes and within about 5 more minutes then she transferred me to Laurissa (sp?) who apologized and then gave the moderate choice. I said I wasn't interested due to the fact we had stayed at all those. She asked what I wanted to do and I said either pay more for a deluxe or cancel. So she looked at deluxes (Poly was booked -phooey) and to sum up, we got AKL-savannah for $116/nt. Actually it was $144/nt because I actually added another person, a friend had decided to go with us. Excellent deal and CRO team is doing a good job! It took about 15 minutes total. They were very nice, she was raving about how much she loved AKL.

Thanks to everyone for keeping me updated, I was going to cancel and rebook and you guys saved me a lot of money by giving me the intiative to call!

Disney can't offer the Poly to everyone and what they are offering seems much more than reasonable. I too hoped to get the Poly, but I considered it a long shot. I still feel that they have more than compensated me for the problem.

Great resort and a great deal!!!
Be happy Aurora! You just got moved from a Moderate to a Deluxe at an amazing prize! You are goning to have great time! I'll be there just before you and I cant wait!!! Sure, the monorail resorts are wonderful, but they don't have giraffes and zebras wandering around.

I got really nervous about the renovation situation considering I'm leaving a couple of days BEFORE the renovations start. I just felt that the staff may not be the most pleasant considering a lot of them will be losing their jobs. Soooo I called and spoke to a CM and explained that I was celebrating my wedding anniversary, my son's b-day and my daugter's first trip.. She switched me over to the Caribbean Beach special unit and I was able to upgrade to the AKL using my original code which expired in July. I didn't get a great rate like the people who are actually affected by the renovations, but i did get the AKL standard view for $140 including tax.. I feel more relieved now. My only problem is I don't know anything about the AKL.... can someone suggest a room location and floor.. I would greatly appreciate any help.. I have 3 weeks left before I leave..

Be sure you are getting through to the special CBR relocation team which has the authorization for the special rates. Also they may not be offering the same deals for all time periods, depending on room availability at the various resorts.

I waited for my call, and my T/A let me know today, that I was getting WL WOODS VIEW for the same as what I was paying for a package at CBR... I was staying at CBR on a Disney Club package code.... so it was a pretty good rate... lets just say I am very happy with the out come..... VERY HAPPY... did kinda have my heart set on the Caribbean thing , but oh well.... This will be great! We will be there Sept 12-15...

I'm getting through to the CBR relocation team (and patiently waiting on hold for many minutes). It's a good thing I'm at work and can just leave my phone on speaker while I work!! I guess it just may be my time period or something. Whatever. I'll have a great time at one of the other moderates. I'm just curious.

Karebear, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with $116 for the Poly instead of $109. I’m guessing that all the $109 people had the AP rate and we had the CKO rate. Not that I’m complaining about $116! Thanks so much to whoever posted the news this morning about the Poly offer. I just would have sat around waiting for them to call me and by then the Poly would have been sold out. So nice when lemons turn into lemonade! :Pinkbounc

First i would like to say how sorry i am for the frustrated CBR future guests who are having to make changes due to the refurb, but glad many of you seem to be getting an upgrade, good for you! We have just made it - we are off in a few days.
My question is directed to anyone who has been to CBR or knows what the CM's are like. I have just spoken to one of them over the phone regarding our reservation. She was totaly rude, for no reason i may add, she simply did not have time to talk to me! I have the issue resolved NOW, but who wants to get worked up dealing with a vacation! I hope the other CM's are not like this one - i will not tollerate people like this. Can you please let me know what your experience has been with the CM's at this resort.
The way this particular CM said "Have a magical day" at the end of the call was not what she wanted to say, im sure!!! She unfortunately did take away some of the magic in planning

Thanks in advance:mad:

I have never had any problems with any of the CM's at any of the resorts in which we have stayed. If you called the resort, perhaps it is true that she really didn't have the time to give you her undivided attention, which is why the reservations state that you should direct your questions to CRO and not the resort.

Hi All!

I was getting a bit antsy just sitting here and waiting for the call, so I decided to try myself. Called the Disney Club, and I was transferred to Barbara, who is on the "special" team. She was great. She actually asked me if there was a resort I had in mind, and I said the Poly since it is familiar in theme to the CBR. She checked my dates (9/26-9/30) and it was available! For $20 more than my original rate!! I was thrilled, and of course I took it. I've read where some folks in September have not been offered the Poly, but maybe since I'm only going for 4 nights it makes a difference? I don't know.

Just thought I'd give some of you hope that there seems to be room remaining at the Poly after all. Good luck everyone!!!

Mega

PS- I called 8/8 at 5:30 PM EST.

I just called DC (5:30 PM EST) and was transferred to the relocation team. Lo and behold, I was offered the Poly for the $20 more/night! The CM actually asked me if I had a particular resort in mind, and I said the Poly since the theme is similar to CBR. She checked my dates (9/26-9/30) and it was available, so of course I snatched it up! So don't worry, those of you hoping for the Poly. It does seem like there still is room at the Inn, so to speak!

Poly, here we come!

I am curious if anyone has a Sept.or Oct ressie and has been called? I made a change in the # of people in our ressie for Oct 12th. I was basically told to wait until the team calls you. Now I'm wondering if I should have asked for "The Team". I always thought if you snooze, you lose. I don't want to be too pushy, but how long will the wait be? I am a novice at all of this!! How do you get those cute count down clocks at the bottom?

My experiences with CBR cast members have almost always been exceptional. From the doorman who met us in the parking lot, to the front desk and gift shop staff, everyone was also cheerful and willing to go out of their way to help.

The only exception was a grump lady serving food in the food court, but that was only one very brief experience on one specific morning. Literally every other cast member we encountered there was top notch.

I am going in October, which is regular season. My 20.00 a night more I am paying is on top of that rate.Which is more than the 109.00 a night. I have no problem with that.

Most everyone with the 109.00 rate is traveling during value season and they were booked at a lesser rate to begin with.

We are all getting a great deal and I am happy.

I was in the fq fiasco last year and paid 50.00 more a night for a ctr wing room. Nothing was offered to me. I just opted to upgrade because I wanted to. I am very happy with how Disney has handled the closing of a resort this time around.

I can hardly stand it. I swore I was going to wait until they called. I couldn't do it. I was offered Poly Akl Wl and Wilderness Cabins. I took the Poly for $20 more 109.00. I was told my deposit would be transfered to the new reservation. I was not given a new confirmation number which I questioned, she said it would be mailed to me but I'm a little nervous. Anyone have this or did you get a confirmation number?

Bye the way, we had reservations at CBR 9 years ago and we were called about a month before and moved then too. My DH says we just weren't meant to stay there.

CM's at CBR are great. I had lively conversations with the greeter, reservationist, guest services, cm's at gift shop, caricature artist, and a nice conversation one evening with a gentleman housekeeper. Oh, security was great too. They needed to help us with a dead car battery twice. In other words, they were superb. They always waved to us too when we were walking along the lake and they were driving the golf carts.

Hats off to Robin!!! I took the sound advise from Robin and it made me feel so much better!! To think I was nervous about being too pushy and not making the call. I'm sad that they didn't have the Poly available but I decided on WL. Not a huge upgrade compared to Poly but for a first timer so far I think I'm lucky. I was connected to "the team" and I talked to a very sweet gal named "Cotton". Honestly, I think this problem turned out to be pretty rewarding! I started at a value resort and have ended up with a deluxe.!! Thanks again Robin!

I, too, cannot get the lower rate. So I did ask why others were getting the lower rate. My very unpleasant and rude CM, Casey, told me it was because this was already a good enough rate for Disney Club members. It is all based on your original ressie.

You paid Disney $30-40 to be in the Disney Club.

For that, you got to book under the DC code.

The general public got to book the same discounts but with a different code.

THOSE are the people that get the $109.

Disney is punishing us for using the Disney Club code instead of the other code. Casey told me if I had wanted the $109 I should have booked with the other code. Hmm. Silly me. I don't know why I didn't have the foresight to do so. I guess I was thinking something as absurd as that CBR would be OPEN when they took my money and booked me a room there.

Live and learn.

I would guess that since Disney announced that some of the CBR CM's may not have positions for a few months that morale might be a little low. After all, folks have bills and responsibilities and there are probably a lot of worried folks. I really feel for them.

OPR/FQ both available at the same rate as CBR.

AKL Savannah available for $116.50 per nite. Standard rooms also available.

We have been moved all around too. We started at the Pop Century for Sept (14-20) then that opening was delayed so we switched to CBR, then this happened. We booked thru AAA who didn't know a thing about the closing we I called. She said they would call her and to just wait. Today I was so nervous after reading all the posts, I called her today and we ended up getting AKL Savanna view for only $20 more a night.

We have had some issues with the CMs at CBR!:(
The worst was at checkin....
He insisted that there were no other rooms in the ENTIRE resort except rooms at Trinadad SOUTH!! To make a long store short, it wasn't until I asked for the phone to call another resort that he told us to wait a minute. Then went in the back room and came out with a whole list of other rooms!!!!

I also had an issue with a CM at the gift shop...she totally ignored me and DD for what seemed like forever because she was looking for something in the newspaper!!! Then was rude when talking to us
And from what we experienced at the food court....most of them were simply not friendly!!
So that is why we decided NOT to make ressies at CBR for Oct. SOOOOOO now that is why we won't be at the Poly!!!!:( :( :( BOO HOO :(

Definitely call and ask for CBR relocation team.

My sister had been afraid she wouldn't get Poly for Mickey's Scary Halloween weekend (she'd been booked at CBR and doesn't like the other moderates)so she jumped the gun and called and moved to Poly for $189/nite. I told her about the $109 rate that I read about here. She called back and was put through to the special team. They graciously changed her to the lower rate ($119 in her case - 5 people in the room caused the extra $10) no problem. Talk about Disney Magic.

I don't think there is any reason for anybody to wait for a call this time. If they were willing to rebook my sister at the lower rate, I don't see why they wouldn't offer people the lower rate. Just ask for the special CBR team.

At that price, I wish that I was going too. Oh well, at least I'm headed for Disneyland in a couple of weeks.

Kid at heart - we had this same experience a couple years ago - but not with CBR - with WL. I had been reading construction at the villas and there wasn't a clear consensus on any boards as to what stage it was at, how noisy. After numerous info calls that were very vague, I finally called WL. First person I spoke to was really, really nice...but didn't know the answer to my question...she hooked me up to someone else..and oh MY gosh...if I had to judge the whole WL on that one person, well, it would not be favorable. You know the people that talk with that sarcastic TWANG in their voice - thru their nose - like they are just SO much smarter than you and what are you doing even BOTHERING them with your stupidity?? Well, that was this guy. He REEKED of it. He gave me my answer, but I hung up the phone and thought - what are we getting ourselves into?? Take me back to the All Stars, Off site - anywhere - but here!!

Well, when we got to the WL - I have to say - these were the NICEST group of people we have EVER met. We fell in love with this place...and it wasn't just the theming, it was the PEOPLE behind the theming!! They made it come alive. Everyone, from the CM covering the pin cart in the lobby, to the chef at Artist Point was friendly and made you feel like they meant it! It was in their eyes...you could SEE that they were enjoying their jobs and their surroundings. We thought - WOW!! These people genuinely like their co-workers and their positions, and their managment staff!

Now...does that mean "everyone" will? Absolutely not. Hey, I've been there - trying to coach along an un-coachable person! So - that first person I got on the phone?? Well, hopefully, with an attitude like that he was gone...because, trust me, his co-workers and the management staff would not have liked him very much either! You run into those types of people everywhere...even Disney. It truly isn't an indication of the PLACE - only the PERSON!!

Now - that being said - facing a layoff is not fun. Probably many of us on this board have become intimately aware with that process - I know my family did! I would approach the staff there with understanding, and trust that the vast majority are decent people, working hard, making a wage to support families...and most of the working world tends to stick to their jobs and make the best of unfortunate situations! I'd be worrying too ( I certainly was about the WL ) but, in the end, it turned out to be needless worry.

Enjoy your vacation!!:D

We had reservations for Caribbean Beach Oct 24-27 with
a post card offer of $89 a night with a free night after the third night providing we toured the Disney Vacation Club.

I had to change resorts with these choices ONLY
Animal Kingdom Lodge $ 129 night before tax
Wilderness Lodge $ 129 night before tax
or select another Moderate at same price of $ 89 night before tax.

Polynesian was NOT an option available on this code.

We went with Coronado Springs.

You do realize everyone staying at AKL standard - not even savannah- at, even a code rate, is extremely jealous?? Well, maybe not everyone, but I sure as heck am!

I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade to a deluxe....these are great prices. Having stayed at both deluxe and moderates in the past (POR), IMHO, there is "something" extra at the deluxes.

Either WL (my favorite place so far) or AKL would be very nice at these prices. Really!! And, depending on religion, WL is supposed to be very nice during Christmas. I've seen pictures of their decorations...and many people state it is the best time to go there. We loved the WL in early November. I think with either one, you couldn't go wrong.

Good luck with your decision.

08-08-2002, 08:17 PM
We were initially upset, because we all love CBR and it had become our "home away from home"... but I too decided not to wait for a call from Disney, and this morning I got through to a VERY helpful CM who upgraded us to the Poly and it actually - are you sitting down - SAVED me $15.00!

When I made my original CBR ressies, there were no discounts available for that time period and/or that moderate. But since we were set on staying there and nowhere else, I paid the higher rate; darn near rack rates. Well, with the special offer to upgrade to the Poly, along with a DC discount, I do in fact save 15 bucks by moving from CBR to the Poly. Not bad huh? ;)

So, my family has gone from upset to excited! Poly here we come...

My only concern now is this:

Supposing that CBR was fully booked or near so, that means you have displaced over 2,100 families - not people - FAMILIES. So that's maybe 8,500 people that all have to squeeze into the other resorts. Point is, I wonder if these other resorts, namely the Poly, WL and AKL will seem overcrowded with "CBR castoffs" during the closure period... Just a thought. Hope not!

It just hit me. I couldn't figure out why everyone was getting better rates than me when they took the upgrade from CBR to AKL. I just figured it out. We have 4 people in one room. DUHH! So $126/night for four people in a savanah view room isn't that bad then, huh?

BeanoC

I got an upgrade to the Poly during our October stay in WDW. Then I got to thinking...

If CBR is anywhere near capacity, you are talking roughly in the neighborhood of what - 8,500 people??

(2,112 rooms x 4 per room on average = 8,448)

If all those people are placed in 3 other resorts, won't those resorts be wall-to-wall people??

As you all know, CBR is a HUGE resort, and all those people gotta fit somewhere, right? Seems to me it could mean alot more sardines in a smaller can, so to speak...

Thoughts?

I know I said I would wait for "The Phone Call" after my call to CBR Relocation Team crapped out, but I am so jealous about all of you staying at the Poly, at the WL or AKL I can't stand it ;).

So ... has anyone received an upgrade for Christmas Week?

CarolMN
08-08-2002, 08:40 PM
I sincerely doubt that the CBR was anywhere near booked to capacity. I'd be surprised if it was even booked to 50% of its capacity. September, October & November are traditionally slower periods for WDW and resort occupancy levels have been depressed due to the economy. (I know October was recently changed to regular season from value season, but IMHO, that was mainly due to the convention business). FWIW, guests of the CBR are being spread to the other moderates as well as to the Poly, WL & AKL.

Even if the Poly, AKL and WL end up booked to capacity, I don't think that necessarily makes for a "crowded/bad" resort experience. If it did, why do all those people keep going back at the very, very crowded Christmas time? (And they are even willing to pay rack rates)! We usually stay at the BWV, which is almost always booked to capacity (sold out DVC resort). We've never felt that a full resort negatively impacted our enjoyment.

JMHO. YMMV.

CarolMN
08-08-2002, 08:45 PM
That would be truly awesome! However, my understanding is that the CBR will be open again by the start of the Holidays. My guess is that it will be open no later than 12/20 (start of the peak season).

I am booked for CBR Nov 7-11 thru DC as part of the package with UHPs. Separately from the issues with CBR closing, I've decided that I want to switch to a room only package, but DC can't modify my reservation without switching my resort. I'm considering switching to POFQ, but SO tempted to wait for a phone call with all the upgrades I've been hearing about. I'm worried though...even if I got an upgrade, would they be able to change my package? Technically, they would have to cancel the package and rebook, right? Maybe getting the upgrade would be worth staying with the UHPs.

what was your original cost?I just called Guest Services because I read in someones post that Poly was not available Dec 11-15-so I called because I am going Dec 10-15.I DID get Poly but for 116.00 a night(which I beyond EXCITED about). So I'm wondering where the difference is.My original cost for CBR was 94.00 and change with the discount code.
Also,WL was not available at this time.I was wondering if it would be worth staying at A.K. for 2 nights and then switching to Poly seeing as this trip we were planning on spending much more time at the resort than the parks! If we do switch will they move the luggage for us?
One more thing-if we do decide to split the stay are the savannah rooms worth the extra $$$$-I would think so but have never even seen the resort!

The codes I got where posted here and on mousesavers.com.I think that people got Poly for somewhere around 150.00 with that code-I could be wrong so don't hold me to it!
Kim

I had CBR ressies for 11/9-16. When I saw the closing last Sunday, I went ahead and called Disney Club travel and simply cancelled and rebooked WL Courtyard. Price was 139 a night and while I realize folks are posting lesser per nite price, I would not want standard or woods view. So I'm not too unhappy about pricing.

What upset me about the whole thing is that I had Dolphin reservations for months prior to switching to CBR. Epcot is where I really wanted to stay in the first place but was pulled in by these codes, the fact that CBR rooms were BIGGER and REFIRBISHED so after booking, I let the Dolphin go. Of course their prices went up and since I don't qualify for their good discounts, that is now out.

I sent an Email to Disney lamenting my loss of the area that I really wanted to stay in the first place. I don't really expect much in the way of response but I guess my pipe dream is for them to offer me YC/BC or BW for this rate. I can dream can't I?

Did anyone else e-mail disney and if so, what was their response?

I envy you, TooBoyz4us, that you could get CSR as an alternative to CBR. I had a CSR res since March then switched to CBR because of the discount

My DU agent called CRO when I heard about the news for CBR closure. However, my DU agent could not get me back into CSR for the same price and he had a hard time with the CM at CRO. Then I got POR at the end.

Now I have heard stories about people getting $10 upgrades into POLY.... I am really upset now that I could not get CSR nor the upgrade.... :(

I am really hoping that POR is as nice as what people have told me. Otherwise, my honeymoon will not be as perfect as I wish it would be.

YEA, I AM SO HAPPY:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc I'm running around my office and calling everyone I know!!! I got the Poly for $20 more (& Tax) . I can hardly wait to go.

I called my TA this morning and told him what was going on with people getting the Poly for $109... and asked him to call and ask for the CBR special team, not just the CRO. I mentioned to try to get Yolanda or Thaddeus (among the 100's of reservationists!!:p )

Anyway- he called back and said they offered me the AK Savannah view for $20 and Garden view for $10 and would work on getting a room at the Poly, that they were all booked up (Thanksgiving Week) which is why I wanted to call NOW and not wait for them to get to me.... I was afraid everything would be booked and I'd be sleeping on the Poly beach!!

Then he called back 2 seconds later and said we got the POLY!!! They freed up a room for me...... I AM SO HAPPY, I AM SO HAPPY... did I mention that I am so Happy???:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

My kids are gonna be so excited, every disney trip they always ask if we will ever get to stay at the poly. Now it finally came true.
I cannot believe this and feel like i won the lottery. My dates were 10/25-10/28 and i originally had the 109 Disney club code rate.
Good luck to everyone else. Dreams really do come true at Disney.

Well, somehow I "coded" myself out of being able to take advantage of the great rates at the Poly. My upgrade would be an additional $300 total for the 6 nights. Normally it would be a great rate, by my husband says no. We started at a moderate and we'll stay at a moderate.

I was so proud of myself when that last set of codes came out, getting the CBR for such a good rate - reduced our amount by $200 with just a phone call. Well that phone call came back to bite me. Something about the Disney Club code and the package I have. Got the same answer from 3 different agents so it must be true.

Hello,

I am new to this board - but really wanted to reply to your message. I too spoke with the same rude CM, Casey!

I originally had the CBR reserved at $79/nt due to an annual pass discount. After much hesitation & grouchiness, Casey put me on hold for 5-10 minutes after only offering a switch to another moderate, (she 1st told me - if I wanted to upgrade to a deluxe resort then I should pay rack rate & change my reservation!) & then came back on the line in a much friendlier tone (have no idea where it came from!) & quoted me Polynesian $109 & AKL $109.

Hopefully Casey cheers up! She sure was a downer. But, we were able to book the Polynesian which is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us (We usually stay at All Star Movies & the CBR was a big move up for us already!) We are ecstatic!!!

Polynesian here we come!!!

I also got the Poly for $116. We decided that this opportunity was just too good to pass up. We'll probably never be able to afford to say there otherwise. With five kids, we need two rooms. Now, all five girls can sleep in their own beds if they want. One less thing for them to argue about!!

So yesterday my travel agent says all she can get is AKL lodge because Poly was booked for my dates. I was a bit sad because it seemed like everyone was getting to stay at the Poly but me :( So I thought I'd ask if there were any open dates at all so maybe we could split up the reservation. I had never stayed at the Poly before and DH hasn't stayed there in YEARS and it's his favorite resort. So I emailed my travel agent to ask her if she could do that for us. I got an email back today and she said unfortunatly she couldn't split up the reservation. Instead, she got us ALL SIX NIGHTS AT THE POLYNESIAN! Words cannot describe how happy DH and I are. I LOVE DREAMS UNLIMITED TRAVEL!!!

momofbrian,

To send someone a Private Message ("PM") just click on the "PM" button on bottom of their post. I noticed that your PMs are disabled. I think it's nice to send someone an occasional message "off-board". You may want to consider enabling yours by changing your "User CP".

When are your dates? You may not be getting a good upgrade because your dates are after mid December which appears to be the current cut off. My dates are 12/24-12/29 and no cheap upgrade for me :(.

It seems like people who have booked CBR thru the Disney Club package are NOT getting offered the 10 or $20 upgrades like the people who used other codes like CKO.
Anyone booked thru DC and have been called yet??
Or have you called them, what were you offered??
What are your experiences??

We're checking out of CBR on September 7. I called CRO today just to have them assure me that the resort will be fully operational. The CM I spoke with said everything will be fine, don't worry. She never suggested a transfer or an upgrade, and I didn't mention it either. Well, I'm not worried, but I am a little concerned. Anyone else checking out on the 7th? Are you also a little concerned?

So ... has anyone received an upgrade for Christmas Week?

I called, actually to cancel my reservation at CBR for 12/20-12/26. We had decided to book ASMu (using CKN Code from WDW site) We were afraid to wait until December to hear from them for fear that they would sell out of anything we wanted. They informed me that CBR would still be closed 12/20-12/26. Well, as it turned out they offered us same rate for a moderate transfer, Polynesian for $105 ($20 extra) or AKL for $95 ($10 extra). WL was already booked this week for people that had used the CKO Code (We had booked CBR for $85/night with CKO Code). It seemed like prices and availability are dependent upon how your reservation was initially booked. Well, I ended up cancelling all my other reservations and taking the Polynesian for $105/night. I could not believe they were offering these upgrades during holiday season. I could not pass it up. And it will be our first time at the Polynesian. I am so excited.

My advice is make the call. Don't wait...they may sell out of the upgrades. When you get through to CRO just tell them that you have a reservation for CBR this Fall, you know it is going to be closed, and that you would like to speak to someone that can help you with this situation. I had no problems whatsoever. The deal was offered to me before I even had the chance to ask for it.

I'm almost afraid to post this because I can't believe my good luck. We (me, DH, two kids + my parents) booked a land and sea package in which we were to have stayed at CBR. We did the same thing this past January and booked another so that I'd have something to look forward to -- I had a miscarriage/stillbirth three months ago.

My Dreams Unlimited agent was able to get us switched to the WL at NO EXTRA COST (we'll be there Dec 5 -8). I am ecstatic!!!!!!!! I was fully excpecting to pay extra, maybe they still have the bill from our last cruise and decided to give us a break...lol...

Please let me start by saying....that I am NEVER like this....
Have been a single mom for so many years and am SO HAPPY to be able to take dd's to WDW this December..........

Switched from CBR last nite....got AKL Savannah for a great rate...

The problem....I am soooo uncomfortable about my choice...

Now....this will sound really stupid.....I've just never been a "zoo" type person....and am not into the African theme....

I was blessed as a college student to travel to Africa...(Morocco)...and while I loved the opportunity....it just didn't especially appeal to me....

Sorry for sounding so incredibly ungrateful....again...this really isn't me..........I booked the CBR for the sand...the beach...the hammocks.....the TROPICAL feel....

The Poly...(stayed there in '82) was unavailable for my dates....12/7 thru 12/13....

Should I try again for the Poly....maybe a "split stay"???...already have ressies for WL for our last two days....

Or............can anyone help me "accept" the AKL...........

Before anyone replies about my "selfishness"....let me again state that I know how ridiculous I am being....I know how FORTUNATE I am that I am able to make the trip in the first place....

Just looking for some input....................Thanks in advance!!!!

The Poly was unavailable for my dates 12-15 Oct. I picked the WL upgrade. I am the beach type like another person posted and I hope I will like the Wilderness scene. I still am grateful that I started with a value and am ending up with a deluxe. What a hard to believe journey?

I do wonder if I said that I would take smoking rooms at the Poly if it would have made the difference? Or is non-smoking just a request not set in stone?

I don't think you are being selfish, you were expecting a certain atmosphere during your trip, and now you don't get to have it. Just think about how much time you will really being hanging around the resort. Probably not very much time at all. I was torn between the CBR and ASMu for my trip. I wanted CBR for the beach atmosphere, but really didn't want to spend the extra money for the resort. We need 2 rooms, so it adds up fast! I decided to use the money saved by staying at ASMu to get a rental car. So, I am not really staying at my resort of choice - but realized I will be so seldom there that it doesn't really matter where I stay.

I am waiting to hear from them about my room change, I called on Thursday but since I booked room only for the first day since we would be arriving late and the day before value season started she is having trouble with that one day. Well, I was getting nervous to wait till Monday since everyone said everything is filling up. The women told me I had to wait till Monday and that she wasn't sure what time they would call since they had to answer all inbound calls first. I thought she was being a little rude. She said they were supposed to call people and everyone was calling them instead. If they only wanted to do it by calling people then when people started to call then they should have said we will call you. I am sure they are very overwhelmed but they have to understand that people get nervous. I have been saving and planning for a few months and I want to know where I will be staying. I told her I booked in February and I don't want to have to stay someplace I don't want to because they full. Oh well we will see what I am offered on Monday when they call. I will keep you all posted. Michelle

If I were you I would call CRO and ask to speak to someone that can help you with changing your CBR reservation for your November trip. I made the call for my 12/20-12/26 trip and was put straight through to the special team. The person I spoke to did tell me that they had begun calling those people who have reservations in September, and would continue calling until all reservations through December had been changed.

:bounce: :bounce: We are going to celebrate our honeymoon in the Polynesian style :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I am just soooooo thrilled that my wonderful, amazing, Dreams Unlimited agent, Rob, just made a reservation for me and my FH at the Polynesian for extra $20 per night!!!

So, you think you have heard of that story before.. Let me finish telling you what happened to me earlier!!

When I first heard about the CBR closure, I emailed my DU agent, Rob, and asked him to transfer my reservation over to POR. I didn't wait for Disney to call since I don't like the feeling of "waiting" and "anticipating." CRO gave Rob a hard time when he changed my res over to POR and no upgrade option was available at the time.

Later, the news about upgrade option came out. I was very upset about missing the upgrade. Then, I asked Rob to try calling CRO back. After many phone calls and dealing with several tough CBR specialists, Rob was able to get me the upgrade into the Polynesian with a Garden View room.

Rob was supposed to be away this weekend. However, he still helped me out and made my honeymoon 101% wonderful!

Just no words can describe my feeling now.... $129 + tax for a room at Polynesian....and it will be my first time staying at a WDW resort and it will be a honeymoon trip !!! :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thank you so much, Rob!!! Dreams Unlimited Rocks!

We have extra people in our room. Will we be charged the deluxe extra person fee if we get an upgrade or the moderate? Deluxe is $25 per night if I am correct, making the increase from CBR another $20 per night with two exta guests. Also, I just called the CRO and they said to wait until they call to change. We are going 10/22-31 with three ressies, one for one night with 4 adults. One for the next 4 nights with 3 adults and a child, and one with 8 nights starting the same day as the 4 night with 2 adults. I am afraid with so many people getting deluxe upgrades for so far in advance I'll get left out. I truly don't like Coronado Springs, Have never had an interest in French Quarter. With Halloween being this week, I just don't know what to do. I can't believe I found out about this at the hospital while visiting my father in law in a hospice room. (he passed away Monday). What a week!

We are going Oct. 22 -30. I called Thursday to the Disney Club number & asked if they could help with the switch - the girl said she couldn't but would transfer me over the the 'special team' to see if anyone was available. "Mary Bell" soon came on the line - she said that we could choose from one of the other 'moderates' to which I said that we weren't interested. She asked where I would like to stay - SO - we are now staying at the Polynesian for $20 more a night!!! šoš I would call back & ask for the 'special team!! I felt kind of uncomfortable about being at the Carribean Beach one week before the closure, so i switched my ressies to the AKL and was given a discount by the Carribean Beach special unit. Thanks everyone! I tried calling back and was connected to the people taking care of CBR calls. I got a very nice person who took over an hour with me changing us to poly at a base price of $109 plus tax. This is for a garden room as no standards were available. I don't think they have any standards available for even guests that were not displaced as I went on the official Disney page to check what I would have paid without the special price. No standard rooms available there either and the room would have run $370 tx included. We are really getting a deal. I feel so much better now. Thanks again.

In trying to believe that everything would work out. I was going to wait for a call. So I simply called to verify that they had numbers where I could be reached. The special team was extremely nice and said we could go ahead and make changes needed. But, the Riverside and a very few rooms where at the AK where all that was available. Not, happy with either, I still choose to wait, what do you do? Did I make the wrong chose. I have yet to read a post where someone has received a call. Once they do call, they can't just say there's no availability? Or can they? I'm getting alittle nervous, this is our first trip, that has taken us 3 years to get to this point. If it doesn't work out, the family may not bother with another. Help on what to do?

I booked for early November '02 just days before the announcement came out that they were closing CBR for renovations. Honeymoon- as if I need anything else to worry about! So I contacted CRO, who after a few calls (its amazing the difference it makes depending on who you get!) connected me to the "special team". I was looking for the Poly (wanting that beachy kind of atmosphere), but they said it wasn't available. They did offer me the AK Lodge savannah view for the same discounted price I was paying for CBR (about $116/night inc. tax) which THRILLED me. Even now, when I see posts for Poly being offered, I am hooked on the notion of AK Lodge and wouldn't dream of switching at this point. So Disney is taking care of the displaced beachers...hang in there!

We went from CBR to Poly like so many. I would like to try to add some days to the trip. I know there is no way at the $109 rate, and wouldn't even think of asking for it. I would like the AP rate though. Currently we are staying 12/14 - 12/19 leaving on 12/20, so additional nights spill into the holiday season. Any ideas???

Have the ressies been turned back over to CRO or are they still under the control of Task Force.

followme2disney,

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your dates overlap my dates of 12/24-12/29.

I called last week and they said "No can do Buck-a-roo." I saw your post and I called again today and got the $20 Poly Upgrade! Yippie!

I'm going to the Poly! I'm going to the Poly! I'm doing the Happy Dance!

I am getting screwed!
I was told by Madge that because our ressie is booked unnder the DC packaged that there are no rooms available at any moderates and we can stay at a standard room at the AKL for only $190 more for the 3 nights! I am very upset by this. She did tell me that there are rooms available but not for this package.
I said "So I have no choice but to pay an extra $190 for a resort that I didn't want in the first place?" and she asked if we could switch dates. Thats out of the question (flights, school fall break).
I told her she needs to speak with her supervisor and I will call back later to discuss this.

Has anyone else ran across this problem?

Bill,

Sorry to hear what happened to you. However, let me get it straight: Did you earlier book your trip for stay at CBR through DC? Then DC(not CBR specialists) told you there is no room but AKL which costs you $190 more per night????? If that is the case, you might need to talk to CBR specialist directly.

I am pretty sure that it was a specialist, however she sure didn't seem knowledgable of what was going on. I am on hold right now as I type to try and get someone else that might be able to help me.

Bill,

Do call them back if you don't get what you want. Even my Dreams Unlimited agent had to call the specialist team back a couple times in order to get me the upgrade option.

Wish you luck and let us know your great news!

Bill,
I'm sorry to hear what is happening to you. I would definetly not bend over to them and take it up the you know what. They took your money and know are telling you that you have to pay more for your stay. I don't think so. I would call and tell them that they have to switch you to another mod. and if there are not any mods left then they should upgrade you at no cost! I would not hang up until I got what I wanted. It's your money after all. I hope it all works out for you and please let us know!

So, we had ressies at CBR for Sept 18-22. I was going to wait, then everyone was getting switched to Deluxe, so I figured might as well try. My TA called them and they tried to offer her an upgrade to Poly for about $35 more a night. When my TA came back to me and told her to push for $20/night because I had heard of people being offered that price. I didn't think it would actually work..but it did!! My TA is the best! My boyfriend and I are so excited to be staying at such an amazing place! Now to pick the room to request.....

Anyone who hasn't called and is waiting...I suggest to go for it!

SEPTEMBER 18-22, 2002 POLYNESIAN RESORT :D

Bill ... my reservation was a Disney Club reservation, code ZWKE, which was room plus mini-golf. I called the DC line at (800) 933-3975. The agent I got was clueless but I insisted that she transfer me to the Special CBR Relocation Team. She eventually found the number on her computer and transferred me. The CM from the Relocation Team worked her butt off to get me the upgrade. It took a while, but she was able to give me the +$20 rate. This was after I was told last week that I was not eligble for the upgrade. I hope things work out for you. I would recommend that if someone from the relocation team can't help you, call back next week (and so on). Eventually, you may want to get a supervisor involved, but it's probably too early to have that "mark" on your record :).

Good luck!

milmore104 - that is exactly what I am thinking. I can guarantee that I will be there either in another moderate or upgraded, its just a matter of time.
Robinb - Thanks for sharing your experience. I figured that eventually I will speak with someone who will take care of my situation. I have tried to call back 3 times now and have been on hold for like 20 minutes and then have to hang up. I do have to do a little work in here today!
I sure would like ot get this all cleardd up as soon as possible.
I also will be calling bright and early tomorrow morning to tryt and get that elusive Cinderella's Royal Table Breakfast.

I will keep you all updated, thanks fo rthe input!

Jeanny, I am just expresing my opinion regarding people who are getting great deals and still complaining. If you have a problem with me, ignore my posts. Stop acting like a child and threatening to tell your mommy.

I am so upset I could cry. I called last Thursday to do mine change and since I had room only for one day they were having problems but they said they would fix it. The person who was working on mine is now out sick so I have to wait till she gets back the person I spoke with today told me the poly is totally full. I said I had the reservation last Thursday I shouldn't be my fault you couldn't do anything till you fixed the problem with the room only for the first day. I told her I have been saving all year for this trip and i SHOULD not have to stay where I don't want to because they closed my first choice and filled up on my second because of their error. I have to wait for the original person to call me back and maybe she can fix it but they don't know how long she will be out. By that time everything will probably be full. Michelle

Bummer, Mish! Why don't you look online at www.disney.com and see if the Poly is available for your dates? Maybe they don't have "CBR Upgrade" availability, but only "Rack Rate" availability. In that case, you might still be able to get the Poly.

Lori... keep trying. did you ask for the special team or are you just speaking with a reservationist who answers?

My TA had no problem switching us. I told him what the other "nice" posters on this thread were finding out when they called the special team. He called down there and was able to get me the Poly for $20 more a night than what I was paying for the CBR and even that was a pretty inexpensive Delta Vacation package! First they said there were no rooms for the time period we needed and they would try to free up a room for us, then they called right back and said they were able to get us a room exactly what we needed!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I wound up with a really GREAT vacation package and will shout it out to the world every chance I get!!!! So keep trying!!

Just want to know whether you need to pay more deposit for the new reservation due to an increase on the room rate.

Thanks!

jeank74,

I was told that you didn't have to send any additional money, however, the CM with the relocation team said it would be a good idea just so everything will be squared away when we get there. I think since it is so little I am going to go ahead and do it just to be on the safe side.

When I heard about the CBR refurb, I immediately called the Disney Club line. I am thrilled, because for only $120 more (6 nights), we are now in the Wilderness Lodge. Even my husband, who isn't too thrilled to go (of course, he has never been and will change his mind when he sees the look on our 4 year old daughter's face) is excited about the resort. Yea! Three weeks and counting!

I just got through to the CBR team and got my Nov 10-16 stay transferred to the AKL savannah view for 116.50. Poly was also available as was WL and they also offered the wilderness cabins( I haven't read them offering those on this thread yet). It was a tough choice between the Poly which sounds great, but I think the animals will be so neat.

My original reservation was the 9th through the 16th, but the poly and the AKL (all views) were already sold out on the 9th. I worked out well however as I got a good rate at the HRH and will go to Universal on the weekend which sounds like it will be a busy weekend due to Veterans day and New jersey week.

If you haven't called yet, I would do so as it sounds like rooms are going fast. As the other posters have said, you will have to push to get through the first people, but once you get to the CBR team, the person I talked to was great.(It took me 3 phone calls to get through to the CBR Team-1 due to a CM who had no clue what I was talking about and put me on hold forever, 1 due to a CM who basically told me that they would call me and they weren't taking calls, and the 3rd to a CM who said no problem and quickly connected me to where I needed to be)

jeank74-they did ask for an additional deposit of $22.20 which they took over the phone with my CC.

I spoke with Wellington yeterday and this is what he said they could offer me.
Even swap to any other moderate, or an upgrade to AKL for an additional $30 per night for standard and $40 for Savannah. I asked him about the 10 and 20 upgrades and he said that since I had such a deep discount with the DC package that the upgrade is a little more for me. And the only other resort available for upgrade with package is the garden concierge at the Yacht club (yeah right!)
So it looks like we will be staying at PO. Nor sure if we will stay at the Riverside or FQ yest. I have to call him back in the next day or two to finalize. I might try again to get a better deal somewhere else.

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about their land/sea package since the CBR closure. I have reservations in a category 8 at CBR. Has anyone gotten upgraded to a category 7 at a deluxe resort? Actually I had my TA make the reservations at the WL, but she says she is still waiting for something to come out about the cruise part. Shouldn't they have heard something by now?

When the castmember started to explain what was happening w/the closure of CBR and relocation of reservations I explained I had some knowledge of it ahead of time and was awaiting her call. She asked where I'd heard and I said The Disboards--"ah yes" she said. So it looks like Disney is figuring CBR will not be open by Dec 1st. We had booked CBR for December 1-9th through Shades of Green so had a terrific rate for a lake-view; she assured me we'd have the same at CSR, the only moderate available. It would have cost $30-50 more a night to upgrade to a deluxe due to our already low rate, so I made the command decision we'd go w/the flow--after all, it's an adventure for us--we've never stayed at CSR and will look forward to it. I mentioned many people were calling their travel agents to chg reservations after hearing of the closure and told her we were trying to be patient knowing Disney would do us well. She was a real sweetie and very happy (I think) that I didn't give her a hard time! 110 days to the happiest place on earth!

We have ressies for CBR Jan 18-25. Do you think it will be open by then. We have stayed at POR and would like to try something different this time. We have visited CSR and really would perfer not to stay there but we will be happy anywhere I'm sure.
