We definatly got our house.

Just got a call from the realtor a while ago. The seller's offer on another house was accepted and the contingency (of them finding another house before we close) will be withdrawn tomorrow. So its officially ours....now we are just waiting to see how soon the closing date will be...in other words how long it takes them to move. Anyway thought I would give anyone interested an update. Now all the fun....PACKING...UUGGHH!

I'm not so worried about moving our house...its my mom that I'm worried about....She has lived in that house since 1969....so thats 30+ years of stuff...and my mom is a pack rat! She has more knic-knacks then I can even begin to explain. I tried to talk her into having an estate sale with all the junk from my house, her house and my grandmother's apartment but she hates carport sales. I told her I would do it all she wouldn't even have to be there.

Maybe if you tell her that all the money she makes from selling her 30+ years of nick nacks, and other yardsale stuff you can put that money towards the new living room set she wanted to buy instead of taking the Disney trip?

Glad it is all working out for you as times like these can be SO stressful! I think I missed your original post about the 'house' - I take it that Mom is moving in with your family? How nice to include her! Years ago that is what most everyone did --- lived as extended families. I wish that I could afford to buy about 100 acres and have all of my 'family' build houses close to each other! How fortunate you are to have your extended family all under one roof!

Yep, actually it will be John, John-Cole and I, my mother and my 86 year old grandmother. So 3 incomes affording one large house. The house is perfect for us...it has plenty of privacy so we won't all be running over each other. Thankfully we all get along super....my DH and my mom are really close and my mom and I are best friends....we are together all the time now anyway, may as well invest and make it official. Its sad because with the exception of a few long lost cousins who we never see the above is our entire family. I would love to have a large extended family but there are only 5 of us.

We are going to do the moving ourself. John and mom will probably end up taking a few days off work at the end of a week and we will rent a big U-Haul.

I like what-knots but not on the level as my mom. Mine are like Disney Snowglobes that are in a curio cabinet....Mom buys every $2 dog that she sees. Thankfully she says she isn't taking them...only the ones that actually mean something.....I'm thinking this way she can have plenty of room for new ones:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: But hey if it makes her happy thats all that matters:)

Good for you Beth!! I have moved 14 times in my adult life...
scary but true. The best advice I can give you for a self move is;

Mark each box with a number. On a seperate list (huge) write down, the number, room of where the box belongs and type of items it contains. DO NOT LOOSE the list. I suggest making seperate lists for your mom and grandmom. Sometimes you can not unpack everything, so the list is very handy when you have to put the boxes in storage and then need to retrieve an item at a later date. This system has saved dh and myself from many huge fights..........

Congratulations!! I totally agree with you about moving, yuck yuck yuck! DH and I moved 4 times within the first 1yr. The yard sale is a great idea though. I would definitely try to do that. (More money for new furniture or Disney;)

I feel your packing pain!! We have lived in our current house for 23 years, and are moving in the spring to our much dreamed of new log home. I am having one garge sale soon, and another in the spring. I also plan to have a big dumpster delivered!!!:rolleyes: DH and I have laughed over the fact that there are boxs in our basement that were packed up when we left upstate NY in 1972!!!!!!! I don't think I will even look in them! I think they will just go in the dumpster!:rolleyes:

Congratulations!! I am sure you are so excited. I am still amazed at how quickly this all came about. From deciding to find a house together, to finding the one you want, and then getting a contract. It's so great when things run smoothly. I think a sale would be a great idea. We are having a big garage sale when we sell next Spring or Summer. Best way to pay for those little extras (or put in a "Disney Vacation" account?)
