Digital Backdrops?

Has anyone ever used any digital backdrops for Photoshop? I've only been able to find one on the net but I don't want to shell out $$$ without trying them out first. Any recommendations would really be appreciated.

Any pro's or con's?

Basically I wanted to shoot some pictures of my kids with a white or black background and swap it out digitally. Honestly I have no reason right now, I'm just looking to play around a little.

Now I'll ask a rookie question.

I was thinking a backdrop was pretty much the canvas behind your subject while taking a portrait photo in a studio and background was pretty much everything else in a regular shot, other than your subject. Am I off base on this?

that's pretty much the way I see it, but you can get machines that project a digital image on your background when you shoot, so I call digital images that I insert into an already taken pic ..digital backgrounds..

this wednesday i'm doing an all day shoot with a live model, so I'll have a better idea of how the greenscreen works after that, I might have some family friendly stuff I can post here..

DH used to do a lot of green screen video effects. And lots of inserting lightsabers into kids hands.

There is a reason green screens are day glow green... it's much easier to separate the subject form the background. If you use a white background hair and fair skin can be hard to pull out. If you're just wanting to play, start with a few yards of bright green felt or bright green craft paper to shoot against. It's very cheap (I spent like $10) and then you can take the shot, easily remove the background and put in what you want. Don't buy a fill, play around and make your own or find an image with a creative commons license that can be used for that.. check devinatart.com and you'll likely find something.

you don't have to invest much to find out if you will like it and if you do like it you can always spend more to do it better.

you can also make your own, it's not all that difficult if you have paint shop photo pro
