I havent noticed alot of pictures on these posts but I am a picture person so I am sorry if I am breaking the rules but I will post pics as I start my journal.

I am so glad I came across these boards. I feel like this will be the outlet I have been missing. Its not easy to find a large group of people who are going through the same thing at the same time. So in advance I thank you all.

Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Lindsay and I am 31. I am a mother of 2 handsome boys. DS5 and DS2. I have been happily married for 6 1/2 years to my dh Mike. Mike also has weight issues and we usually go up and down together. He is very supportive of me and I think me getting motivated will help him as well.

Here is me on my wedding day.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/wedding.jpg
I weighed in at 153lbs.

then I had my first baby Ryan and post baby I weighed around 186lbs.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/kemptontrainride2006004.jpg
Here I am with my aunt, my mom (holding my DS Ryan). I stayed at this weight until the spring before my best friends wedding.

I decided that I did not want to be the "fat" girl in the picture so I joined weight watchers for the um teenth time and lost 23lbs.

Here I am at 163lb......not bad right?
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/cousins.jpg
These are my cousins who have been like sisters to me growing up.

and I pretty much made my goal of looking good at my friends wedding.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/emilyswedding.jpg

then came baby #2. Nicholas was born in 2007. I finished that pregnancy at 200lbs even. After I had him I lost 10-15 lbs. Here Is a pic of me and the boys.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/meandtheboys.jpg

The stress of having two young boys to focus my time on and a full time job that I needed to excel at was enought to put my emotional eating into overload. That plus the new home we moved to right before having nicholas was surrounded by fast food resturaunts. I mean anything you want within 1/4 of a mile. McD's, BK, Wendy's, Long John Silvers, KFC, Taco bell, Arby's, etc. I am not exagerating!

Here is me at 205lb.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/pics002.jpg spring 2008.

I began running in October 2008 and completed my first 5K in 45 minutes. I did this at 200lbs. I then managed to loose some weight and ran my 2nd 5K in april 2009 and completed it in 35 minutes.

Here I am at 189lbs.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/pics.jpg

I tried hard to continue my weight loss in the hopes of being thinner for our 1st family disney trip in sept 09. Here we are with some of our favorites.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disneyvacation2009074.jpg

I left for vacation at 189lb. I have no idea what I came back at but since being home I have been on vacation eating mode. Eat whatever, whenever, and who cares. :confused3 Its been horrible. I feel miserable. My clothes dont fit and I feel so unhealthy. I am so ready to make a change.

Ok here is my most embarrassing moment/photo that I hope not to have to revisit again except to say "wow can you believe that I looked like that"...
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/pics003.jpg
I am currently weighing in at...........................215! :guilty:

Now I can admit I am a complete junk food lover. I hate most veggies and love carbs and fried foods. I also just love to eat in general and can really stuff myself without much effort. Basically I feel good while I am eating and feel horrible once I am done. Its a revolving door.............that I need to stop for good!

My Goals:

Wt Loss: 60lbs

Event: Hopefully the princess 1/2 marathon 2011 if not then definitely a 1/2 closer to home sometime spring of 2011.

Food Plan: I plan on using the old weight watchers points system (since thats
what I know best) along with making healthier choices and trying
to eat 3 smaller meals with 2 snacks.

Running Plan: I will follow the C25K probably starting in the 3-4 week since I
have been running for the past week or so. I am running in a 5
K this sunday. (spur of the moment friend registered and cant
make it). I then will move on to C210K and then train for the
1/2 marathon.

I am hoping you all can support and inspire me along the way. I sure will need it. I am going to try to post updates frequently but at least a weekly wt and run update. Each month I will post a new picture too. Hopefully you will see less of me in the picture next month!

Let me quick just fill you in on the situation about the princess 1/2 marathon. A trip to disney really isnt in my budget until summer of 2012. We plan on going as a family along with my parents.

Well I have come up with a brilliant idea. Why not propose a trip to my mom. I sign up for the princess 1/2 and she can come along as my cheerleader. We spend a few days together at disney for an all girls weekend.

So I called her a few days ago and filled her in on my brilliant idea:idea:. She then asks how I am going to afford this. I say well this is where you and dad come in. Now let me just say I am an only child so I still am a little spoiled. My parents spend hundreds of dollars at xmas and birthdays on us so I figured that they can forego the gifts this year and take me to disney instead. I thought for sure my mom would tell me I am crazy but instead she says....................."I will have to think about it" Now this simple phrase has brought back so many childhood memories of " Mom can I sleep at _____ house"...."I will think about it".....remember those days? Well I think back and I remember the "I will think about it" phrase usually ended up being a YES! So hopefully my mom gives me her decision soon but the back up plan would be to sign up for a 1/2 marathon in our area spring of next year if the decision is no:sad2:

So until then I will pray that I just may be able to get back to my happy place sooner than later. I will keep you all posted!

I see I have no one following along with me yet so I feel like I am talking to myself, but I figured I would keep on posting.

I decided that what better time to start my lifestyle change then today. I tried to make healthier eating choices and I drank a ton of water. I also got on the treadmill tonight too. I figured the next few days will be my warm up to weight watchers and then I will start counting the points on monday. It will give me time to get to the grocery store and get some healthier food choices in this house.

I am running in a 5K on sunday. I am not sure how well its going to go since I just started back on the treadmill a week ago. My goal is to be done in 40 minutes or less. Last year my time was 36.01. After the race I will take a few steps back and start the c25k program.

I will update again after the race to let you all know how I did. I am hoping the weather forecast changes.....Its suppose to be 54 and rainy:guilty:

I will try my best and remember the quote I read on here the other day......It doesnt matter if you finish last.....At least you finished! (thanks to whoever posted that on their board"

Hi Lindsay and welcome to WISH!!:goodvibes

I will be the first to come over and see what's going on with your journal. We are kind of similar. I too am doing WW on my own. I have already run 2 half marathons, with 2 more scheduled for this year. I started my weight loss journey at 219 lbs (and I'm only 4'11"). Currently I am at 167, my goal is 125. It is a journey for certain, and I started in 2007! I am going to be at goal by my 40th b-day this November. (Notice I didn't say hope to be, I am saying going to be, no doubt this time)

Pop on over to my journal if you like, I journal all my food there each day, along with my exercise. It helps keep me accountable and if I know that someone else is checking in on me, I keep it honest.

I also captain a WISH team, if you are interested, join up. My team is the Incredibles.

Good luck-I will be here!

thanks so much for joining me. I like your idea about journaling your food on here, I think I am going to do that as well. Its an easy way to keep track and if I know other people might be reading it will help me to eat good! Thanks for inviting me to join your team. Do you have a team blog? What does it entail to join the team? Is anyone running in the princess 1/2 next year from your team? Sorry for all the ? but I am new to this area of the boards.

Thanks,
Lindsay

Go here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2381210) and ask Maura to assign you to the Incredibles team. Then go here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2433647) for the Incredibles page. Basically it is a support group of folks of different ages/abilities/ goals. A number of the ladies are running the Princess 1/2 next year.

Oh and if you didn't find it my journal is here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2192588).

Ask any questions, I will do my best to answer them for ya!!

Today was a great day.....Started off by running a 5K race with some friends. It is a local race that supports our areas children run groups. It was miserable weather 50 and rain. I made the best of it and completed the race in approx 42 minutes. I am still waiting to see my official time. I was pretty happy with my performance considering I just started running again this past week.

I also talked with my mom today and she has agreed to come to disney with me. So its official the plan is to do my first 1/2 marathon in disney. The princess 1/2 in 2011!:yay: I am so excited!

I have decided to join the incredibles team and look forward to meeting new people and hopefully finding a running partner for the race. Thank you veronica for the invite. I posted on maura's board and am waiting for the ok to join.

Tomorrow is my official start day for Weight Watchers and C25K. I am so excited to get started.

So today was my official start day of Weight Watchers and C25K. I did pretty good with food choices considering I didnt get to the grocery store until late tonight. My C25K is a 3X per week program so since I ran the 5K yesterday I decided to make my days to run tues, thur, and sat this week. I am going to start in week 5 since I already know I can make it 3 miles. I just want to be able to run more instead of walking and increase my time a little too. I have another 5K race planned on 5/29 which will be the last day of the C25K program. Its a race in the area I work. Small town called Coopersburg. It benefits the make a wish foundation. Its a pretty hilly course and last year I finished 38:35.

Heres what I ate today:

Breakfast: McD's Hashbrown 3pts
Diet Soda 0pts

Snack: 100 cal snack pack 2pts

Lunch: Chicken breast 4oz 4pts
green/red peppers 0
onions 0
1 serv pasta 3pts

Dinner: Ft Long Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki Sub- 14pts

Total Points: 26
Flex Points used: 0
Activity points: 0

Not the greatest food but I will get better with my choices as we go. I have most of our meals planned for the next 2 weeks. I always find it easier if I plan ahead.

Hey, Lindsay! I came over from the Incredibles thread to cheer you on! I know you are going to have a great journey as you work toward the Princess Half. I am a picture person as well, so thanks for including them. Once I have a face in mind, it is so much easier to make connections on the boards.

I look forward to following along with your progress!

I did my W5D1 of the C25K program. It felt great. I did notice my outer shins hurt when I walked but felt better once I would run again. Im not sure what to do about that. Otherwise it went good. I followed the time instead of the mileage and I did 2miles in 27 min. I figured the speed will come later. I ate pretty well today. Although I could tell between dinner time and my kids going to bed I was getting a little bored and felt like snacking. I curtailed my cravings and just had some olives.

My points:

Breakfast 6
Snack 2
Lunch 6
Dinner 12
Snack 3

flex points used- 0
1 point left.......hmm what to eat?

Now tomorrow is back to work. My little guy is feeling better so he will be off to preschool. The Dr I work for is buying lunch. Pizza and salad. I will have to be good!

Great job Lindsay! Your family is adorable.Lots of journals around here to keep you motivated.

The shin pain will go away as long as you don't go too far too fast.

We have catered lunches at work too, oh it just kills me but the salad sure sounds good doesn't it? Pizza is the worst.Oh all that sodium.

Have a good day,

Lindsay, I had shin pain that started around week 5 as well. I ended up having to take a week off around week 8 to rest them, and I also got some Zensah calf sleeves that I wore when I ran and afterwards for a little while. I am having no problems with my shins at all now. I think it may be something that a lot of new runners have to work through. You can also find lots of strengthening exercises if you google shin splints.

It is so frustrating to really get going and then to start hurting somewhere. I think I am going to have to take a few days off to let my knee rest (the muscle/ligament on inside of my left knee feels very tight). I hope your shins feel better quickly!

Hi Linda,
Thanks for the compliments on my family. I am loving all the journals and threads on here. I have not been this motivated in years :goodvibes It is hard when you have a free lunch...you hate to turn it away. It helps with doing Weight Watchers you can still eat not so good items occasionally just as long as you count the points. So thats what I tried to do.

Sorry to hear about your knee. I remember when I first started running about 1 1/2 years ago I overdid it and my knee was so sore and swollen I couldnt even walk the next day. So I am trying not to push too hard. I did find that running made it feel better so I think it may be more walking fast on the treadmill thats doing it. When I ran outside on sunday I didnt feel anything. So hopefully like you said I will just have to work through it and it will get better. I use to have shin splints during basketball season in high school and that was the worst....definitely dont want to go through that again. I will try some strength training to see if that helps too. Thanks for the tips.

Overall good day today. I couldnt resist having 2 slices of pizza at lunch. :confused3 It was resturaunt style pizza and smaller slices. I did have some salad with a sm. amt of oil/bal ving dressing. I only had a small dinner so I think it balanced itself out. Today is my off day with running so I am just going to rest my legs tonight. Eventually in the next week or two I might start doing the wii active in between running but for now I am just starting slowly.

Today was a great day! I am so proud of myself this week. I am eating good and running feels awesome. I have so much more energy and just feel so much better about my self. My run went great. It felt good. I did C25K W5D2- 2miles 25:40 I found that instead of walking I just go to a slower jog and it allows me to catch my breath but keep my shins from hurting. I tried walking at a fast pace and my shins burned like crazy. I am hoping to do my next run outside on saturday but will see what the day holds. Either way I will get it done.

Today's Food pts- I made an awesome veggie pizza tonight. 5pts for a pretty good size slice. yummy!

Breakfast-6

still have to eat 7 points tonight.

A little bit of a discouraging run for today. I think my expectations are just a little to high right now. I am a perfectionist so this running stuff drives me crazy. I get frustrated when I am too slow or feeling like "im gonna die" during a run. I am very competitive so it kills me to know I am always in the back and not the best. Ok with that being said let me tell you about my run today.

I decided to go outside since it is beautiful out today. It was already 60 some degrees at 730 this morning. I am the one who will be praying for the cooler weather on princess morning:confused3. Morning only then it can be warm the rest of the day.

Well I did C25K W5D3. I felt great while running on my treadmill but outside not so much. I was sucking wind and felt like my body was barely moving when I ran. I made it through the first 5 min run and then my next two 5 min session I think I walked about 1/4 to 1/2 of them. I made it to the 2mile mark at 29 minutes. I also didnt realize how much of an incline was around my area. For the most part I was running on an incline the slightest, not a hill by any means but it does make a huge difference than just running flat. I guess I cant expect miracles but it just made me wonder if I will ever be able to do this. I know its my first week of running....maybe I should have started at week one of the C25K.

I think I am definitely going to make saturdays my run outside day for sure. I cant count on the treadmill to totally get me ready for the 1/2.

Well I off to enjoy the beautiful day. Happy Saturday!

MickeyMomTo2
05-01-2010, 07:39 AM
Lindsay, I think running outside is tougher for sure, but it is much more enjoyable once you make the transition. I had the tendency to run faster outside, so I got much more tired. On the treadmill, you know you are keeping your speed steady, and you also don't have wind resistance or ups and downs like you do outside.

Don't worry! Give it a couple of weeks and you will be fine!

It was so hot today. 88-90 and very humid. We broke down and turned on the central air...I usually dont do this until 6/1 but sleeping last night was miserable. In fact by 3 am we had me, dh, ds5, and ds3 all in our full size bed. We only have 1 fan so we just directed it on us. I honestly felt like I was in a can of sardines.:lmao: I couldnt go through that again.

I worked today for some extra bonus pay from 830-145. So I skipped lunch but we had our friends daughters 2nd bday party to go to so I had an early dinner. It was fun hanging out and letting the kids play outside. I was very impressed with my will power. I ate a normal size meal and that was that. No cake. No extra helpings. I was proud!

I am very excited to step on the scale tomorrow for my official 1 week weight in. I cant wait to share the good news!

Running/Walking is a great outlet! and a trip to disney helps too! Are you interested in joining the team I am on. Food Journal

Breakfast- 4
Lunch- 9
Dinner- 8

I still have 5 points left but I have no idea what to eat because I dont even feel hungry. Is this really mind over matter? Have I finally learned how to eat like a normal person. :lmao: Instead of completely stuffing my face all the time.

Tomorrow is my run day. W6D1. The difference is running an extra 3 minutes in the middle segment of the run. I was thinking after my rough run outside on saturday maybe I should back up a bit in the program until I can run the program easily. Does anyone have any advice on this. Should I even expect it to get easy by day 3 of the week? When I am on the treadmill I hate to walk but when I am outside it is harder to run. Unsure of how to continue. My plan was to have the c25K finish up with my next race on 5/29.

Thanks for all you supporters who picked me up when I felt down after my run on saturday. I am proud to report that tonight I moved on to W6D1 and completed it.....while running outside......and it felt great:dance3: I did 2.1 miles in 29 min. .1 mile more than on sat. in the same time. I also was able to run when supposed to and followed the plan to a T. Even up a pretty good hill and few other moderate/gradual inclines. Not sure why the difference but I FEEL GOOD!:goodvibes

I am off to find a yummy 4 point snack.

I havent had any bad "eating moments" yet but on friday I will be going out to lunch with my mom and nana...most likely to red lobster. Gonna have to plan this one out good ahead of time. We were suppose to go to NYC for the day but my mom is a lunatic and doesnt want to go know because of the car bomb incident that happened last week. She has me irritated:headache:

Its been nutz at work and the weekend can not come soon enough! Although in most cases I would have caved in tonight and stopped in a local fast food drive through I pushed through the lazy feelings and came home and made myself a healthy meal.

My husband plays slow pitch softball so it was just me and the boys tonight. I made a very yummy creation.

8 WW points:

Tortilla BBQ chicken pizza:
1. whole weat tortilla- med size
2. chicken breast cut into small pieces and grilled
3. red onion chopped fine
4. BBQ sauce

bake the tortilla on a cookie sheet at 350 until it looks bubbly.
grill chicken and when cooked through at 2 Tbsp of BBQ sauce mix well
add onion and sautee for a few min.
Top torilla with 1/4 cup of mozzerella cheese and spread chicken topping evenly.

drizzle 2tbsp of BBQ sauce on top.

Bake until well melted.

I wasnt sure how I would like this but it was amazingly good, very filling, and easy and quick to make.

No running for me tonight which is good because I feel very tired, although I can say that I am starting to get that addictive feeling. Today I thought to myself.....aw man Its not my running day yet I cant wait until tomorrow.

Have a good night!

Today was the first day that I gave into a temptation. Its like on the biggest loser when they have those challenges.:rotfl: We were at ds's tball game and they have a snack stand. My little ds got chicken fingers and then didnt eat 2 of them. I felt bad for them to go to waste so I ate them. :scared1: then my ds gets done playing and now he wants chicken fingers to take home. He only eats 1 and 1/2 so what do I do I eat the other 1 1/2. :scared1: So I needed to confess. I didnt use any extra points this week yet so I guess its not a big deal but I dont even know how many points they are? I guess I will estimate 4 per finger they were actually small. Tomorrow is my red lobster luncheon so I have a feeling I may use alot of extra points then too. I guess thats what there for!

I did W6D2 and realized that I misread the plan. last week I did the same thing each day because I swore thats what it said but now I realized there was a difference. So today was 5min warm up walk, run 10min, walk 3min, run 10min. Total of 28 min- I did 2.2 This was indoors on the treadmill.

next run is sat. I hope to be outside and its run 25 min without stopping. :scared1: This should be interesting.

The flex points are there to use, some people say use them all in the week for better results. I use most, but very rarely all (last week I did use them all)

The chicken fingers, well, see this is where us mommies get in trouble. We feel compelled to finish our kids food if they don't eat it all.

Keep up the good work!!

Horrible day with eating. Red Lobster was delicious and I tried to pick a healthier option. I got the wood grilled seafood platter: it consisted of scallops, shrimp, and lobster tail. I only slightly dipped it in butter. I ate the salad with a sm amt of french dressing and 2 biscuits (I couldnt help myself they are so yummy). Ok so after that I estimated my points and figured I used my daily points between breakfast and lunch. I still had 24 flex points so not a big deal.

Well then my kids begged for a happy meal. So I stopped at McD's and broke down and got a double cheeseburger and sm fries. My dh had softball so I used the excuse that I had no one to cook for but myself so I caved. I know I still did not use up my extra points but I was just disappointed in my choices.

Well tomorrow is a new day and I will get back on track. I honestly feel crappy today from eating so much and from the fast food. Thats enough motivation to not make this a habit.

TGIF!

The past few days were a little tough to continue to make good eating choices. I think overall I didnt do too bad. Made some good choices and some bad. Definitely ate alot less than I would have normally yesterday with all the yummy mothers day food. I had a great run on saturday. 1st time that I ever ran 20 minutes straight. It felt good. Today is weigh in day so hopefully it will be good.

It can be tough to stay on plan sometimes. We had a weekend like that this weekend. And I haven't run since Friday. And this week is going to be tricky too. But you just have to keep on going, not letting those bad moments take you back to your old ways. It was one meal, its over and done, move on. And those things will always be an issue, even once you reach your goal. So don't get yourself too down about it.

Keep up the good work-your doing great with the running!!:thumbsup2

Thanks veronica I think this is always where I would give up but with my disney 1/2 marathon goal in mind I know I cant so that has helped along with your words of encouragement. Thanks so much.

Well I couldnt have done too bad because today was my weigh in day and I am down another 2.4 lbs.

So my loss total in 2 weeks= 7.2lbs

My goal would be 6 lbs per month and that would but me at my goal wt for the princess 1/2. Will see how close I can get.

I signed up to do the Biggest Loser summer challenge which begins on May 28th. Excited to join the group. Hopefully this will continue to keep me motivated along the way.

I had a very tempting day today. It was finger food friday at work today. Everyone brought in something. Luckily we have a few health concious employees so there was fruit kabobs and a veggie tray but there was also pigs in a blanket, cold veggie pizza (which you would think sounds healthy but is made with crescent rolls, cream cheese and sourcream.), and a chili cheese dip to scoop with fritos.

I am please to announce that I took a big serving of veggies, 1 fruit kabob, had one frito with a taste of dip, sm portion of pasta salad approx 5 noodles, and 3 tortilla chips with salsa. I was so proud I controlled myself.

then

My boss took me out to dinner as a congratulations type meal for my recent promotion to Site Manager of the pediatric office I work in. We went to TGI fridays. She kept telling me to eat eat eat. She ordered spinach artichoke cheese dip and I felt obligated to eat it with her. Or pressured at least. I choose grilled chicken and shrimp as entree but I still felt bloated and over full by the end of the meal. I just didnt feel good about it. I still had 10 points left for the day and 31 extra points for the week. I have no idea how many points my food was but anyway I will just consider it a wash of all the extra points and start fresh tomorrow. What can I do now right.

I am planning on running early tomorrow. My 3 year old is going to a kids run that our local road runners club holds every other sat. through the summer. its a lot of fun. He runs a 1/8 of a mile. My older son usually goes but he has tball at the same time. So he will miss the first couple of races. We have a busy morning but then the rest of the weekend it ours to relax. Well not exactly we have alot of :laundy: and cleaning to do.

Thats an awesome commitment you have made. You will feel so great after your first 5K it is such an accomplishment especially for us who have or have had weight issues. I remember after my first race I balled my eyes out. I never thought I could be athletic again after gaining 60+ lbs. I will tell you from experience you can do anything you put your mind too. Just believe in yourself!

Thanks for reading along and good luck on your running!

My run today was a little harder than previous. I felt tired even when I started. I pushed through it and completed 2.56miles in 32:00

Heres the stats:

Lap Dist: 2.56miles Total Dist: 2.56miles
Avg. Speed: 4.8mi/hr Calories: 247(?)
Avg. Pace: 12:30min/mi Your BMI: 33.1(?)

I noticed on days the sun is out and beating down It gets really tough for me. Luckily I run on tree lined streets so some is shaded. I am the goofy person hoping for cool and cloudy weather at the princess 1/2. Just for the race of course.

The craziest thing happened during my run. this car slows down as its coming in my direction and this guy honks the horn and yells yeah baby. I was like OMG you got to be kidding me. Get a life. Then a minute or so later he drives up behind me and is yelling stuff in spanish at me and whistling. At this point I was getting a little nervous. I was on a main street so I continued to ignore him and kept running. Luckily he drove away and never returned. It kind of freaked me out though.

I too like to run in the shade, but I find wearing a baseball cap helps with the sun alot. I have 2 of the moisture wicking ones, love them. They are life savers.

Oh yes, the idiots in cars who heckle or try to run you off the road. This is why I don't wear an ipod. I want to be aware of my surroundings. Make sure you have your phone with you, you never know when you might need it.

You are doing great-keep up the good work!!

Thanks veronica, I think I will have to invest in a new hat or two. I was out at a local sports store on saturday and I saw a ton of stuff I wanted. I thought this was a cheap sport but the more I get into it the more I realize I could spend just as much on this as my husband does on golf.

Today was my weigh in day!

Week 3: -2lbs
Total= 9.2lbs

I am still happy with the results I mean a healthy weight loss is 1-2lbs per week right? I did begin that dreaded TOM today so given the circumstances I think I did good. Next week I will post an updated picture. I plan on doing this every 4 weeks to monitor my progress visually too. Hopefully I at least look a little less chubby. I definitely feel better and can tell my close are not as snug.

Looks like tomorrows run might be a little wet. The forecast is 50's and rain. If its too bad I might chicken out and just do the treadmill. I never thought it would get to the point that I dread running on the treadmill and love to run outside, but it has and I am glad it did.

Big news today on the boards: The princess 1/2 marathon was moved back a week and now will be on 2/27/11. Not a huge deal. I am more worried about the weather here. I am hoping we do not get delayed in a snow storm. (These are the dumb things I worry about and will worry about until we are in disney). Whats the difference of a week, I dont know but its seems to have everyone in an uproar.

Another big news topic: My aunt who I dont get to see very often has decided to join us on our trip. She has not been anywhere in 20 years and has never been to disney before. This should be fun. So my mommy and me trip which was planned to be relaxed with no worries of fitting everything in; has now turned into how can we fit it all in plus run a 1/2 marathon in 4-5 days. It should be fun and exciting either way.

Talk to you all soon.

Hello Lindsay

I just found your thread on the Disney princess 1/2 marathon thread and when I read your journal I felt like I was reading my life history. I can't get enough carbs either...:lovestruc or join Weight Watchers to many times.

I am also planning my weight loss around my training for the princess 1/2 marathon. It will be my first time to WDW but my 2nd 1/2 marathon. My daughter and I ran the Disneyland 1/2 marathon last Sept. Now we can't wait to go to WDW. Well i wish you great success in your weight loss and your running. Keep up the good work. :thumbsup2

I realized I never posted how my last run went. On tuesday I increase my time to 35min. It indeed was cold 49 degrees and rainy but the goofy girl that I am I was like :woohoo: I love running in cold rainy weather. (not downpour kinda rain just drizzle-light rain) It keeps me nice and cool!

So here is my stats:
5-18-10 completed: 35min (total running)
Total Dist: 2.89miles
Avg. Pace: 12:05min/mi

It was a great run and I felt like I could keep going but wanted to stick to the rule of only increasing by 10% each week. I am cutting down my min/mile little by little. 1/2 way through my run I passed an older gentleman walking his dog, he was like way to go, good for you :thumbsup2 He was my own personal :cheer2:. It was great and gave me even more motivation to push on. This was the longest time I have run straight, I impressed myself.

so then I repeated the same course and length of time again today. Instead the weather was 80 and sunny. I ran around 10am. Initially planned to run later after sundown but my dh reminded me that he had a softball game tonight. Shoot! So I had to deal with the heat and beating sun. I tried to tell myself I like running in the hotness, mind over matter right. Well it worked most of the run but there were 2 points where my mind told my body to keep going....on foot then the other, but my body just stopped and walked. I kinda laughed to myself. I was saying in my head go...go...go and I felt like I had no control over what my body was doing. I at one point was 2 people 1=body the other was mind. Anyway it was short lived only about a 20-30 sec walk break. I pushed through and made it to the same finishing point as last run exactly at 35 minutes. I was surprised because I felt that I really slowed down due to the heat. I guess I really just have learned how to pace myself. I actually continued to walk the rest of the block and got to the 3.1 mark at 38 minutes. So even with the walking I have improved my 5K by 4 minutes since 4-25. :dance3: I am excited!

I have my next 5K race next sat. 5/29. Its a little hilly of a course and the weather forecast as of now is Sunny and 82. I guess I will just learn to deal with it or else it will be a long summer!

Had a tough run today. I got up bright and early to set up our yard sale this morning. We did really good and made some extra spending money for vacation in july. :yay: But I was feeling really tired from getting everything together and yesterday we did a ton of yard work in the hot sun. I decided to head out for my final run of the week around 115pm. It is over cast today but very warm and extremely humid. From the moment I started through out the entire run I felt horrible. I almost felt as if I was wearing bricks instead of sneakers. My body felt so heavy. I know I need to loose wt but it felt alot heavier than normal. It was hard to keep myself going. I did complete my 35 minutes. I walked on/off for approx a total of 5 min. I ended my run at 2.83 miles. Which is 0.06miles short of the last 2 runs. It added 19 seconds on my mile pace. Not horrible considering I felt bad. I just thought I would get better rather than worse as I go. I guess I will just chalk this up to a bad day. We are off to see our friends tonight and plan our trip to TN in july. :woohoo: Cant wait for a well needed vacation!

I cant belive I have already been doing weight watchers for 4 weeks now. Its amazing how time flies.

Today is weigh in day and picture posting time. I figured I will post side by side pics every 4 weeks in the same clothing to visualize my progress.

I see a tiny difference this month but more so I feel great. My clothes are less snug, I have alot more energy, and my mood is even better.

This week my runs increase to 38 minutes. I had to switch my running days this week since my dh plays softball and his nights are different than normal. So today I ran 3.1 exactly in 38 mins. :woohoo: Not the fastest time out there but I was proud that I did it. I did have 3 brief walking periods lasting not even a min. The first mile was rough but once I got into the second mile it was all good. I have my next 5K race on saturday. I will run on wed. so that gives my 2 days off prior to the race.

Ok now for the weigh in.......drum roll please.........:lmao:

this weeks loss 0.8lbs. :guilty: I was hoping for more but at least its still going down.

Total weight loss= 10lbs in 4 weeks.

Aww thanks for thinking of me. My race went really well. It was super hilly which for you being in TN might be the norm. I however usually try to pick a path that is pretty flat. Anyway I completed it in 38:30 which is only 30 sec slower than what I have been running around my home. Not to bad for all those hills. I was pretty happy! I hope you had a great morning run. So glad your run went well! Hills are killer. Middle Tennessee is very hilly, and I was actually thinking about that this morning as I ran up a large one. If I can train on all these hills, running the Princess half marathon in very FLAT Orlando won't seem too bad!

Congrats on your run today!

I thought since I didnt officially journal about my run I would give a detailed review.

Temperature was great. Somewhere in the 60's and cloudy. I got to the area at about 730am. The race lined up at 8 and started at 815. I was suppose to run with another friend and her sister. I couldnt find them anywhere so I just hung around with my parents and my ds-nick. My dh and ds-ryan stayed home since his tball game started at 1030.

I got in line for the port-a-potty one last time before heading to the start. There was quite a line and I got talking with a lady in front of me. She was overweight and probably in her 50's. She joined team in training and is training to walk a 1/2 marathon. She has not set a date yet. She said she was only training for 2 weeks but her coach wanted her to do this. I told her she can do it and it doesnt matter how slow she is all she has to do is finished. She said she just worried that she would be the last one. We said good luck and good bye. This will come into play in a bit.

So as I walked to the start, the kids races were going on. Its so cute to watch all the kids. My sons are involved in a kids race every other weekend and they love it. Anyway I still couldnt find my friends. I decided to line in towards the front of the pack for this race since they use a goofy timing system. As you cross they take the bottom half of your bib and thats how they track your official time. Unfortunately if you start 30-40 seconds after the timer starts your time really isnt "official". As I was waiting I saw my friends sister. She said my friends legs have been bothering her so she decided not to come. Not a huge deal considering they are both faster than me so I only run the first 1-2 minutes near them.

In minutes the start gun shot and we were off. I ran past my parents and nick. Nick had his arms up in the air yelling "go mommy". I have to say I got a little choked up.:lovestruc I realized that starting in the front was making me feel like I was running alot faster than my pace. I started to slow and then it seemed like all the other racers were just flying past me. I had a hard time with this for a minute or two but then said "who cares Im doing it and thats all that matters, Im not here to win". So I rounded the first corner and I was pumped!

As I made the turn with determination in my eyes I saw it. The enourmous hill! I started to run it but then realized I should just walk fast so I dont fully burn myself out. Thats what I did and I cruised down the rest of the road turned the corner grabbed some water (actually 2 cups) and was surprised to see the 1 mile marker. Wow 11:30! I am usually between 12 and 13 so this was good.

The next mile was alot of ups and downs. Hills I mean. I made it through and only walked up the one really big one. Otherwise I was running.......
Along this mile there was a family that I caught up to. Mom in a wheel chair, dad pushing her, and 3 daughters somewhere between the ages of 6-10yrs running along. I was amazed that this dad was pushing his wife. Amazing. 2 of the girls were full of energy running ahead but the 3rd little one was having some trouble. I was running by her and said come on you can do it. She looked at me with these helpless eyes and said Im so tired I cant even breathe and my hearts beating so fast. I almost felt like putting her on my back and carrying her. Now we all know this would not have went well so instead I just encouraged her to keep walking and she caught up to her dad who then sat her on her moms lap and then he pushed them both. :lovestruc What a man! and I am sad to announce that he even beat me to the finish.:lmao:

Shortly after mile 2 was another water stop. This time I only took one cup. We then got to the point where you pass the racers just coming up to their first mile. I didnt expect to see anyone since I was in the back of the pack. But who did I see.....that poor lady I met at the port a potties. She was followed by a cop car, I guess he was waiting to open the roads. Well I hope she at least completed it.

I was honestly surprised how quick I felt the race was going. Not that I was quick but I remember last year and even the race I did a month ago. It felt like I was tourtoring myself and that it never would be over. This time I felt great!

I passed the last bunch of the local schools cheerleaders. :cheer2: They were giving out a chant "lets go runners, lets go". Then I saw the street that led to the finish. I picked up speed just a bit. Turned the corner and ran as fast as I could to the finish. I beat 4 people that were in front of me.

I believe I finished at 38:30. :yay:

It was alot of fun. They had a health expo set up. Mostly local business
nothing that really caught my eye. They had a spread of drinks, fruit and bagels. I grabbed some gatorade and oranges. Then we headed to my little guys kids run about 15 minutes away.

One thing I wanted to share. At the kids run I stayed and cheered on our friends son who is 10. There group runs a mile. I thought all of the kids had finished so we started to head to the car. As we are walking my mom says oh there is still more kids. I look down and here is a boy probably 100lbs overweight and he is crossing the finish holding his hands up in the air. I almost started sobbing. I was so proud of him doing it and I didnt even know him. It really made my day to see that. We have so many obese children in the world right now and to see a child trying to help himself is amazing.

Great job on the run!!! Isn't it great to see so many types of people out there competing? I have been last in a race-my first 5k 3 years ago. The ambulance was behind me. I thought they must just be following me cause I'm fat. But no, that is race protocol. I did pass a number of people later, including a man who looked to be 164.

That little boy-didn't you just want to hug him and cry over him? I did just reading your post. How awesome that he was out there trying and hopefully he keeps on running. I am looking forward to this type of thing when DD and I run her Girls on the Run race next weekend.

Keep up the great work-you will get speedier each time you go out there!

I was laughing at the ambulance comment. I would have thought the same thing. Isnt it amazing to see how far you have come since then. Good for you! I really wanted to just run over and give the boy a big hug but he probably would have thought it to be a little wierd. :lmao: I really had to hold back the tears. The girls on the run sounds so awesome. These are things that makes me a little sad that I wont have a daughter to do those things with but then I think of how lucky I am to have 2 wonderful boys and no need of dealing with PMS days. :lmao: I do hope you have a great time. I would love to hear about it.

I read through most of your journal! LOVE IT!! I would LOVE to have you as a partner so we could encourage each other! I, too, am an only child, who would have difficulty coming up with funding for much, but would also as my mom and dad to help me out in the same way as you are for the Princess. I found some of these threads, and today have decided that I am going to buy a US road map, and start walking to WDW. I am going to count time walking, running (dont do much of that), biking, and swimming toward getting there. I am going to pick destinations along the way and when I virtually reach them, I am going to try to go there, so long as they are cheap-ish. I set a goal last nite of getting back on track with WW (I attend meetings and have access to e-tools), of losing 25 pounds by my birthday in six weeks. I figure, I have been gaining, so once I am back on, my first week will be slightly larger weight loss than typical weeks. Good luck! And I SURE hope we can support each other!!!

Congratulations on the weight loss!! I hope you feel like your pushing through your slump. Have you thought about adding some light weights/toning exercises in to your routine? It might engage other muscles making you burn more calories. :thumbsup2

Your ideas/goals sound great. What an awesome idea about walking/running and meeting destination goals. I hope you get to travel to some really cool destinations. Are you planning on doing the princess? If so I would be happy to partner with you. Currently I am at around 1230/mile pace. I am hoping to get quicker by the time of the 1/2 marathon. Either way if you are faster or slower than me we can at least encourage each other along the way. Good luck with getting started on WW.

I am definitely feeling better! I have thought about the cross training in between. I dont want to do too much too fast. 1. it usually burns me out and I give up everything. 2. I want to allow my body time to adjust.

So this week I am increasing to running 4 nights/week. Next week I will add in one day of cross training either weight/toning stuff or the Wii active which is a little of both. Then after a few weeks I will add in a 2nd day of that. I will still keep one day of total rest. Do you think that sounds like a good plan?

Thanks!!! I would LOVE to be able to the 1/2 Princes. I will have to see if my parents or grandmother can finance it though. I am not even up to jogging, much less walking. I have to determine if they would let me walk during the 1/2.

You can walk it you just have to keep a 16min/mile pace or they sweep you and you dont get to finish. If that happens you dont get a medal either. :scared1: I am hoping to avoid this.:thumbsup2

I think that sounds great! I need to start using our Wii fit as well. I definitely agree that a day of rest is a good idea. Would you offer your feedback on what my plan is? I would really appreciate it!

Here's what I am trying to do (though I have not fully fulfilled it yet):

Monday: brisk walk/run in the morning, meet with DIS friend in the afternoon to walk/talk/girls play together after we are done (does not happen every week but most weeks)

Tuesday: Circuit type workout or Wii Fit

Wednesday: Same as Monday

Thursday: same as Tuesday

Friday: brisk walk/run

Saturday: same as Friday

Sunday: My rest day

I need to start doing toning type exercises every day too to help me to start looking more toned. I would love some feedback!! :goodvibes

I did not know they will allow you to walk it. I can walk a mile in about 10 minutes or so, give or take. I have always been a better brisk walker than runner. I know I actually burn more calories with brisk walking than I do a slow jog...:scratchin

Stephanie your plan sounds great. The Marathoning for mortals book has a plan that I am going to follow for the 1/2 training. I am using the day/day breakdown as a guide to how I set up my workouts.

Basically its something like this although I dont have it in front of me.

M-Run/Walk- Its a tempo run but either way your good.
T-Cross train
W-Moderate run/walk- just a tad faster than comfortable pace
R- cross train
F- ? not sure if this also is a rest or a run
Sat-longer comfortable pace run/walk
Sun- rest

So at least hopefully you get the point. So what your doing looks good. I would just alternate run/walk then a cross train (this can include weight training).

So if you can walk that fast its actually faster than I currently run. :thumbsup2

I would say you should sign up for the princess too:wizard: Although I know your doing your big trip in sept. so Im sure its out of the question. huh?

Weigh in day today!!!!!

Current Wt-201lbs
this weeks loss is 1.4lbs.

Total loss in 6 weeks is 14lbs

My home scale told me this week and even today that I was in the 100's. over the weekend it said 198.8 and today 199 but I am going by my work scale so I was a little disappointed to see a 2 still. I wanted to get into the one hundereds and not look back anymore. Maybe by the end of the week the scales will all be there. I stress over the numbers way to much I know!

I am feeling alot better and healthier. Im not getting headaches like I used to. I can move alot easier and I dont focus on food all day long. I am even going through a stressful time at work and still have been able to stay on the plan. I tried zumba tonight by using videos on you tube. I really liked it and I am going to use that as my cross training workouts on my non-running days.

Hi Lindsay!!

I read through most of your journal, and love all the pictures you shared. Your boys are so cute. You look great, and you can really see the difference since you lost 10 pounds.

I feel like we are definitely on a similar path. I started between the bl at 213, and am 209 today. Planning to get under 200 before august. Plus I've done ww so many times too.

It's so great to get to know so many people here through wish, and then to actually plan to do the princess, and get to meet you in person will be great. Lisah0711 and I are planning to walk/run it, and we'll see how the training goes in the fall as to which plan from the marathoning for mortals book we do.

Keep up the great work!!!

thanks alot Kathy. Yes it is so awesome to meet people and really get to know each other before the race. I am hoping to run most but I am going to see how my training goes through the summer and fall. I am at the 4 mile point and am still able to run most of it. I do take a few quick walk breaks but I find once I walk its harder to start up again. But either way Im hoping we are in the same corrals since its our first race. I would love to be able to wait and start the race with others that I know. I think it will be a lot of fun. I am not giving myself a time goal, I think I can complete it in less than 3 hrs but Im not worried about that. I just want to do it, have fun, and maybe get a few pics along the way. :) I mean who can run past mickey and not take a pic right. Thats my goal for getting faster....so I have extra time to take pictures. :lmao:

I don't know how the whole corral things work, so it will be very interesting. I think if I'm at a 12 min mile pace before we go, that will give me ample time for pictures too, and to enjoy the scenery. I just want to finish it, but I hope to be at a pace in my training that I won't be struggling to not be swept. I'm pretty much 15 min miles walking and running, and usually do 2-3 miles. I find toward the end of 3 miles, my running is slowing and my walking is probably as fast or faster than the running. I probably run 4-5 min, walk 2-3, but if the running feels good, i'll go 8-10 min straight. I did 2.5 miles straight once, and my hip paid for it for a couple weeks, so at my weight right now, the intervals are better. I can't afford to hurt myself, and I hope as I lose more weight, my joints will be able to handle more.
I am a picture fanatic, so I definitely need to have time for pics with characters.

Week 7
Total Loss this Week: 2.4lbs
Total loss in 7 weeks: 16.4lbs

I am so proud of myself. My initial goal was to loose 6 pounds a month. I want to reach my goal of 60lbs loss by the princess 1/2 february 27th, 2011. If I can stay on the plan I think I will be able to do it.

Only 43.6lbs to go.

I am excited to take another picture of myself next week to see if there is a noticable difference. I definitely feel great and my clothes are fitting much better. I actually fit into a pair of pants that I grew out of after vacation in sept. I tried them on in the beginning of march and couldnt even close them now I can wear them and they are comfortable and not even tight in the waste.:goodvibes

My next race is planned for sunday june 27th. I am running with one of my best friends...and when I say running with I mean waiting around for the race to start and meeting up with her at the finish line. She runs a 5K somewhere in the 26-28 minute range. Much Much faster than me. Shes an awesome running and has done marathons and half marathons for years. It should be a fun race. Its at a local AA baseball park we have here. Its the iron pigs stadium which is called coca cola park. They are the feeder team for the phillies. For those of you who know a little bit about me know I am a huge phillies fan.:yay: They actually announce your name over the speaker as you run into the stadium. I think that will be the best part.:lovestruc

I am really nervous about going on vacation and loosing my momentum. Last week I only lost .2 and now the scale has not moved in the past few days either. Im trying really hard to stay OP! I just really want to get all this weight off and I guess Im getting scared that I will let myself fall into old habits. IRON PIGS 5K 6-27-10

I just got back a little while ago from my race this morning. It was a difficult one. Heres a review:

At 9am it was 86 degrees and the humidity was so thick. The race started on the field of our local single A baseball stadium...The Iron Pigs (Phillies). We ran out of the stadium. I started off running pretty quick as I feel like I have to keep up with the pack. Then came the first hill not even a 1/4 of a mile into it. I ran it and then saw it was a decent down hill so I tried to let my body just go while running down. I thought not so bad there shouldnt be to many more of these, right. Nope shortly after the bottom of the hill we headed up another one. This one was steap and long........I stopped and walked. Then it leveled off for about 1/4 mile. Shortly after I saw the 1 mile marker in the road. I was like wow that was a hard first mile. I didnt have a watch on so not sure what my split time was but I felt like it took forever.

I kept running and was getting really overheated. The sun was really blazing at this point and there was no shade. Luckily ahead I saw the water station and this was the 1/2 way point. I grabbed 2 cups. 1 for my head and 1 to drink. I have to admit it felt good pouring the water over my head but it only lasted for a few minutes until I felt like steam was coming off of it again. Then it was a few up and down slopes and I saw mile 2. I felt like I was finally getting in a groove.

A short while after another runner came up next to me and we chatted about the hills and how hot it was. She had a timer and said we were at 24 min. I thought thats pretty good since I passed the 2 mile a min or so ago. Then we see it. Another huge hill back towards the park. We stopped and walked. It was another one of those that is a spiraling hill with a gradual incline to the top. I walked most except half way up I got the urge to run some of it. At this point we were around the outside of the stadium. We had to contine running in a big circle around to the back of the stadium. As I was passing the entrance I contemplated just giving up so I could get a drink and sit down, but that wasnt an option. I just kept going. I ran the rest of the way which was mostly downhill or flat. Coming around the back I heard my husband yelling at me to run faster and my kids were cheering me on. I waved to them and my husband yells...."dont wave RUN!!!!" :lmao: he cracks me up he's such a drill sargent. I made the turn into the stadium and saw my friend amy and an old high school friend courtney who was volunteering at the race. They cheered me on and amy yelled "almost there and your time is good...your at 37 min. I saw the clock and it said 37:10 I sprinted to the finish and believe it was 37:20 when I crossed. I did start 10-15 seconds back from the line and it was not a chip timed race. I am waiting for the official time to post. My goal was to get closer to 36 but I will take it considering the hills and heat. Im proud of myself and now have another race under my belt. Princess half here I come!!!!

Here are some pics from after the race and my kids exploring the park while I was running.

Where in nj are you near if you want to share that info if not thats ok just curious.

Thats awesome that you are doing the princess! I am dying to know the host resorts and the 2011 prices. I am so anxious to book the trip and register. I want it to be set in stone!

You should sign up for some 5K's in the fall it is a great way to get your feet wet with doing races. We have some fun ones around here in oct, nov, and dec so if your not too far I could give you the info. I really want to do a 10K before the princess so I can submit my time. I believe if you think you can complete it in 3hrs or less they move you up a corral. I just dont want to get stuck in a crowd of walkers/really slow runners. Im not fast by any means but I would rather start with a faster pace so Im not swerving around people. Well actually they probably will have to swerve around me so thats kinda selfish of me i guess.:lmao: I think I can do 2:45 so we will see. Let me know how far exactly you are from me and if its not too far maybe if you come across any decent 10K in your area you could let me know.

Thanks!

Ps. sorry for the book!

I almost forgot to post my weekly weigh in results this week. I have vacation brain already and still have 4 more days to go.

Week 9

this weeks weight.............197.4 a loss of 1lb.:cool1:
Total weight loss so far............17.6lbs:yay:

So far so good. I am pleased with my progress. I would love to see it come off quicker but I am learning good things take time.

I am debating on taking my scale with me on vacation. I know sounds a little odd but I think it may help to keep me in check.

I am going to officially weigh in again on thursday and then not again until 7/13. Hopefully they both will be good. I am going to try my hardest.

Thanks everyone!!!!

Looking good Lindsay!! Keep at it--you are doing so well! :worship:

I am down in the dumps, so to speak. I got on the scale last week and the darn thing did not budge. The same day, I spoke to a good friend who mentioned that she could tell I was trimming up and such--took me by surprise. Made me slightly better but it is discerning when the scale does not show back the hard work I feel like I am putting in, but I there is more I could be doing. That is my goal, to really clean up my eating and drinking (I like diet pop and sweet tea, which I know are bad for me).

I know I am running out of time before my trip...I just want to go down and not feel so self-conscious and want to be in the photos from the trip...

that is awesome how close you are. I saw a bunch of fun looking halfs that are scheduled in the fall, one being the rock and roll half in philly. I really want the princess to be my first and I especially think the extra training time will help. I will keep you posted with races that Im doing in the fall around here. Let me know if any pop up by you or in philly. Glad to meet someone so close:goodvibes

Steph,
Thanks for the compliments. I know you can do it. Why dont you try cutting out all of non-water drinks except 1 cup for a week and see what happens. Focus on drinking a min. of 48 oz of water per day. That along with exercise may be enough to get the scale moving again. Dont get discouraged you could be loosing inches and just not lbs at this point. If your friend noticed then you are doing something right. I hear you about the vacation pics I felt the same way. Try to really focus for a week or 2 and maybe it will help you get on track. I too am a sweet tea lover. I used to drink at least 1 or 2 large like 40oz cups per day. It is probably the worst thing for you. Im telling you speaking from experience just put down the sweet tea and walk away.:lmao: You will notice after a week or so you wont miss it anymore. I have faith in you that you can do this and either way you should be proud of what you accomplished so far.

Whoo hoo, Lindsay!!! Congratulations on finishing your 5k in such conditions!! Your speed was awesome!! Your husbands comment cracked me up, don't wave, run!! Sounds like he's a great support for you.

Your pictures are so great, you look so happy and fit. Your boys are adorable and they must have been so proud and excited to see you finish your race in the baseball stadium.

You should definitely be further up in a corral during the princess. Never having run before this year, I figure I'll be in one of the back corrals, and happy to make it without being swept, but your times are definitely much faster than I am now, and you'll probably be much faster the way you're going. Do they only place you in the corrals based on other races? I guess that would make sense. This is all new to me.

Congrats again!! You must be so proud of yourself. :cool1:

Thought that you would like to know that your quote made the results on the BL thread this week. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=37283622&postcount=2249

Great job to all of you who lost this week. Some have lost a little some others alot. Even those of you who gained this week. I feel we are all winners today whatevere the circumstances are because we are choosing to try to make our health better. Even if you didnt get the results you were striving for at least you tried and its better than not trying at all. Continue to make good choices and get your body moving and you will do it.

Thank you for the support and the belief! I can tell a difference in the way clothes are fitting and my legs are definitely more toned. I just need to be a bit more focused this week. I will try cutting out the non-water drinks. I know this week I was going to give up diet pop as I know that there are some that believe it promotes weight gain. Sigh, I just like my Diet Dr. Pepper BUT it will be worth cutting it out if it helps me get to my goal. :goodvibes

I hope you had a great holiday weekend! I actually did really well last weekend. Yesterday I had part of a piece of cake boy did it make me feel icky today, which is a good thing (to me anyways). I think it shows that my body really does not like the sugar load! :thumbsup2

I actually weighed myself on 7-1 prior to vacation and I was down to 195.6 so technically I gained .8lb on vacation which I still see as a victory!!!!!

Hi Lindsay,
I just came across your journal tonight and started reading it because I'm from Allentown and the St. Luke's shirt in your opening pictures caught my attention. Great job on the weight loss and your running! You should be very proud of yourself!

I have found, too, that running is a great way to keep the weight off. Just wish our weather would be a little cooler. It's tough getting in the miles when it's so humid.

Hi Jill, Its always fun to meet someone on here close to home. Yes I am dying for the fall weather. This humidity is for the birds. I did a 6 mile run sunday morning and thought I was going to die. It was so hot and humid at 1030am. I dont know what I was thinking. Do you do any local races?

jam217
08-10-2010, 04:11 AM
If I don't get out early to run, I just won't do it in this weather. There's just something about the humidity and the sun and I just start shutting down.

As far as local races, I am thinking about doing the zoo run at the game preserve at the end of this month, particularly since they changed the course and got rid of the nasty hill. I'm also planning on the Rock n Roll Philly Half in Sept. That is one of my favorite courses and the weather is usually pleasant.

What is your next race?

I was also considering doing the zoo but couldnt decide if I wanted to do another race with a bunch of hills. I prefer flat:lmao: Most likely if I dont do it the next one will be the women's 5K classic in october- I am signing up for the 5 mile. I am also going to Washington DC in october for the marine corps marathon 10K. I think next year I want to try the RNR- philly that looks so cool. How quick of a runner are you?

jam217
08-10-2010, 11:37 AM
My training pace is about 10 minutes per mile, give or take, depending on the weather conditions. When I'm doing a half, I can usually knock about 30 seconds off per mile. If you do any training runs in the Lehigh Parkway, let me know and I can join you. I will PM you my phone number.

And I know what you mean about the hills, but in our area it's tough to find a race that doesn't have any. Even the parkway 5Ks can be challenging with the 2 hills. That's the nice thing about the Disney races -- the only "hills'' you'll come across are when you run up the highway overpasses. Otherwise, it's completely flat.:)

The Rock n Roll Philly course is relatively flat. Another nice race, but it's a drive is the Yuengling Shamrock Half in Virginia Beach in March. Flat course, lots of schwag (two shirts, baseball cap and of course a medal) and the chance to relax and drink free beer on the beach and watch the marathoners come in. Doesn't get much better than that.

A word of warning about the women's 5K classic. It's a wonderful race for a wonderful cause but it's very, very crowded. At a certain point towards the end of the course, the walkers and the runners (5kers and 5 milers) all converge and your run becomes a fast walk. The one year I did the 5 mile race and got very frustrated because I was running up along the side of the trail to get around people. Other races, the crowd thins by the end, but not this one.

Yes I ran the 5K 2 years ago. It was my first race ever. I was overwhelmed at how packed it was. The funny thing was the competitive walkers were passing me:lmao: Like I said it was my first race I was slow and just happy to finish it. I actually cried when I crossed the finish line. Now I am much more experienced although I am still a back of the pack runner. I currently run at a 11:30-12:00 pace. I usually dont run in the parkway just because I am alone and it freaks me out. I live in bethlehem so its a little drive too. I use to live right up from the parkway on liberator ave. I would love to get a running partner for longer runs. Do you have any gps devices you use. I currently am in the ice age and use map my run and right my route on my hand:lmao: unless I have it memorized. I dont know how to figure how far Im going in the parkway. I need to know how far I go to keep me motivated. Sorry for the book. Let me know if you are doing the LV zoo and I will sign up to and meet up with you there.

talk to you soon

I would be lost without my Garmin 205. Got it off of Amazon (no shipping, no tax). I used to do the Map My Run thing and also go out in my car and drive the route. The Garmin is well worth the cost, not just for training but also when doing the longer races to get yourself through it mentally.

Yep, the parkway is a bit of a drive from Bethlehem. I live very close to it (right off South 24th St.) and don't get down there as much I'd like to. But the hills are great for training, particularly the Nature Trail Hill down by the fish hatchery. And the entire loop is about 6 miles. Sometimes I'll leave the parkway and head up into the residential area to get more miles.

Are you still doing the Princess Half? I have only done the Disney races during marathon weekend in January.

I will definitely decide in a couple days about the zoo race and let you know.

I realized I have really been neglecting my journal lately. I thought I would check in with a quick update.

The weight loss has slowed a little the past few weeks. As of last monday 8/9 I was at 190.8 bs only a 1lb loss in 2 weeks. I am still at an overall loss of 24.2lbs.

I really just need to focus again on actually counting my points instead of estimating and not being afraid to go a little over. I also need to make sure I am drinking enough water daily. One this that has not slacked is my running. I am still running at least 3 times a week. 2 runs approx 3-4 miles each, and the 3rd run I increase each week and I am at 6.2 miles.

Today was my 6.2 mile run and I completed it in 1hr 21min. approx 13:00/mile pace.

I actually am impressed that I kept the running up with all the horrible heat and humidity we have had the past few months.

I am waiting to get the final word from my mom on whether or not we are doing the princess half. Its looking like a go but my mom changes her mind as much as she changes her underwear:lmao: I am hoping to book our trip with in the next 2 weeks.

I will try to update more often.

Hi there,

I read through your journal and I'm so impressed and inspired by your story. I'm just getting started in training for the January 1/2 marathon so hopefully I'll be following in your footsteps over the next few weeks.

I recently moved out of the Philly area so I recognized your photo with citizen's bank park right away. My hubby is a huge Phillies fan too. We had to get the MLB package so he could keep following them now that we've moved away.

Anyway, best of luck with your training. I look forward to following along with your posts.

I have been running anywhere from 3-7 miles 3Xweek and trying to do weight watchers. I feel like healthy eating and portion control now just feels like a lifestyle change and I really dont even count my points to a T anymore. I eat things I still like just in moderation and smaller sizes.

thanks for the compliment. :goodvibes I am 5'6. I have always looked lighter than what the scale says. Even at a really healthy skinny weight I am still 155. I guess Im just big boned.:lmao:

Lindsay, I am the same height as you and my trainer told me the normal weight for that height is 155-186, but keep in mind that I am 50 so I know my body fat percentages can be a little higher.

You're doing great and we will be sure to exchange cell numbers so we can meet up before the Princess. princess:

Lindsay- You are looking awesome!! You can see such a big difference, and you look so fit. You must be proud. Isn't the princess a huge motivator? I'm amazed that I am still running, and the I ran through the summer, and I know if the princess trip wasn't in my future, there would have been so many days I would not have gotten out there. It will be so much fun.

I ran a short run tonight due to lack of time. I completed 2 miles in 21:30. Its my fastest miles yet. I dont think I could keep that place longer than a 3 mile run but it felt good. It made me feel like I am making progress.

I plan on running again on thursday. Then I am doing a race in New York City on sunday. Its the tunnel to towers run. approx 5K. It is in honor of a FDNY fire fighter who was off duty on the day of the 9/11 attacks. When he heard what happened over the radio he got in his truck and drove toward the towers. He got stopped in traffic right outside of the battery tunnel. He got out, put on his gear and ran to the towers to help his crew. He died along with all his crew that day. He left behind 5 children. The race traces his steps on that horrible day. It is in memory of all of those who lost thier life that day.

I think it is going to be such a great experience. I am hoping emotionally I can hold it together to run.

I am hoping to carry along my camera and if i do I will post some pics. I will give you all an update after the race.

Hi everyone that still may be following me.

I want to share one of the greatest runs I have ever taken with you.

What: Tunnel to Towers 5K

When: Sun Sept 26th

Where: Red Hook area Brooklyn NY to Ground Zero New York, NY

Who: Me, My best friend amy, her dad Barry who is a local city fireman, and another fireman friend of his who also brought his wife and 10 year old son.

Why: The race supports the Stephen Siller Foundation. Stephen was a NY FireFighter who was off duty on 9/11. When he heard an aircraft flew into the towers he dropped what he was doing and immediately went to help his crew. He got stopped right outside the battery park tunnel. He got out of his truck put on all 75lbs of his gear and ran to the site of the towers. He was last seen approaching the towers. He lost his life that day trying to help others. This race traced his steps he took on that day.

Here is my story:

We left Barry's home at 4:45am. I had to wake up at 3:45am to get there on time. I didnt sleep well the night before. I was afraid I wouldnt here my alarm clock.:lmao: We arrived in NYC around 6:45am. We had a bit of trouble finding the area but once amy's dad got over his stubborness he agreed to let amy use her Iphone to GPS where we needed to go. That got us there with no problems.:rotfl2: We parked a few blocks away from the finish line. Getting there early had its perk, we got a spot on the street and didnt have to pay 25$ to park.:woohoo:

We met up with the other family in our group and walked over to the port-a-potty area. After we finished our business we headed to the area where the shuttle was taking runners to the start. We got in line and shortly the bus came. They had every thing so well organized.

We got to Coffey Park in brooklyn. Registration was easy. We pretty much just hung around talking and taking in the excitement. There were so many men and women running in their fire gear. It was amazing and very inspirational to see. After numerous trips to the port-a-potty and checking in our sweatshirts with UPS we made our way to the start area.

Amy and I waiting for the race to start. I am the one with brown hair....oh well I guess you know that since I have posted other pics.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun11.jpg

We were towards the front of the pack but still were 3 blocks away from the actual start line. There were over 15,000 people there. They had big screens set up sporadically so you could see and hear what was happening at the start line.

While we waited we saw a very "old" man approx 80 in his fireman suspender pants and boots, a tshirt and his firemans hat. The site of him doing this brought me to tears. We also saw a few groups of fireman from other countries. England,Spain, and Ireland. Here is a pic of a man from england. I took this not just because he was from england but he was a nice site to look at while I was waiting....you get the idea right.:rotfl2:

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun12.jpg

They had "warrior" soldiers injured in the war that started the race along with the marine corp cadets. After a young girl sang the most wonderful rendition of america the beautiful they let them start their race. Once gentleman that they were honoring was a sargeant in the army who lost both of his legs just 6 months ago in aphganistan.:sad2: They gave him the fire engine red wheel chair bike. I was almost sobbing at this point.

Shortly after they started. They had a gentleman sing the star spangled banner. Then they rang the liberty bell in remembrance. They would announce what the ring was for, then they would ring the bell once, followed by a moment of silence. They rang for the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11, then for the # of first responders who lost thier life (I cant remember the exact # is was close to 100, then for the people on the aircraft that crashed in Pa, then for those who lost thier life at the pentagon, for those who lost thier life fighting the war-I cant remember the exact # but it was close to 4000:guilty:, and the last bell was for stephen siller.

Once we got past this emotional moment. They counted down and Rudy Guilianni gave the go. Everyone was cheering and clapping. It was amazing.

Shortly after the start you made a turn and headed down the hill and into the tunnel.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun4.jpg

It was hard to run at a good pace and I just came to the aggreement that I am not running it for a PR I am running for the experience so I didnt worry much about the speed. As we got into the tunnel the chants of USA...USA...began. Wow I cant even put the feelings I had into words. I felt like the 1 1/2 miles I ran through the tunnel gave me a whole new inspiration in life. Here are some things I saw in the tunnel.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun5.jpgSorry for the blur I was running.:rotfl: I wanted to give you the idea of how packed we were. Ahead you can see a guy running with a flag wrapped around him.

Next is one of the best pictures I could have taken. A firefighter running/walking in full gear..including the Oxygen tank carrying an american flag. I took the picture right as one of the guys from england came over and hugged him and walked along with him for awhile. Totally amazing.....
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun3.jpg

By this point you can see I was on the walking/slow running side of the tunnel. I hung with the faster runners until about 3/4 of the way through. It was so hot in there. I could only imagine how those firefighters were feeling.

Next I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Doing this run and feeling the heat/crowd gave a new meaning to this phrase.:rotfl2: Here is my view as I excited the tunnel. Completely breath taking is how I would describe my feelings.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun10.jpg

I could hear the cheers and people going crazy. i though I was close to the finish. Nope as I ran just a bit up the hill I saw this on the right side of the road
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun1.jpg
and this to the left
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun.jpg

On the right were the FDNY in thier formal attire. Each had a flag hung over them with pictures and names of the firefighters who died on 9/11. There were 343 firefighters that lined the street. It went for blocks long. They all were clapping/cheering/encouraging, and giving us high fives. I dont know what other word to say but AMAZING.

On the left were the US coast gaurd in their formal attire. Each holding an american flag.

We ran through the city. There were a bunch of bands playing, cheerleaders cheering, spectators cheering us on. There were people even cheering out of thier apt windows 30 stories up in the air. again....amazing

We ran through the empanade which is like a nice area around ground zero. It is along the hudson. I wish I got a better picture of this view. It was the NY cityline with the hudson in front of it. It was a breath taking view. I was so happy to be running there. It was awesome. In the water they had the NYFD fire boat....it was blowing its horn and siren with Firefighters on it cheering us on with megaphones.

Shortly after this part we were back into city streets. I ran up along the coast gaurd and the army running in their packs. They were doing there sound off. "I dont know what you been told" repeat. I hope you get what I am saying. Im sure there is a name for this.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun7.jpg
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun6.jpg

I want to say for the record. I passed them.

At this point in the race it got a little hairy. There were some curbs and bumps that they had volunters standing by so no one would fall but people still tripped anyway. I felt like I was going through an obstacle course.

We were just a few blocks away from the finish.....their was a band playing on the corner with a female singer. They were singing this really slow song. I made a joke to a girl running next to me. I said wow they should be playing proud to be an american or we will rock you....not this slow stuff. She looked at me like I was nutz and just smile...so I ran ahead.:rotfl2: I was running next to 2 fireman in their gear and I know they were really feeling fatigued. They were cheering each other on and saying things that once again brought tears to my eyes. The one said "we can do this...I love you brother"

As I swallowed hard to hold in my tears I turned the corner-where there was a kids soccer game going on.....I love this about the city...you never know what you will see between the buildings. We had only 1/2 block to the finish line.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun2.jpg this pic was taken later so thats why no one was running ahead of me.

I sprinted along with others to the finish. Finishing time 39:11. About 2-3 min short of my current 5K times but like I said this wasnt a race for me.

There were people still lined up for a few blocks cheering us on. I made my way through and found amy and her dad. They had tents set up all along the streets like a festival. They had so much food to offer (free) Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Roasted chicken, hot wings, shepards pie, pasta, salads, water. It was wonderful. We got our free shirts and ate some food. Here is a sand castle that was made:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/NYC5Krun8.jpg

They had a parade of the FDNY that were standing earlier along the race along with the coast gaurd and the NYPD. They were led by the FDNY bag pipe band. They also gave out scholarships from the foundation. One was to a girl that started college this year. Her father was killed in Iraq in 2003. She was crying on stage and it broke my heart into a million pieces.

We grabbed our jackets at the UPS pick up area. Headed back to the car and drove home. We didnt stay for it but Montgomery Gentry was putting a concert on after a few local bands played. Dennis Miller the comedian was also there too.

It was just such a great experience I am still having a hard time putting it all into the right words. I hope you enjoyed hearing about my experience sorry the pics were so many different sizes. Thats what happens when I use my camera phone.

Race Update:

I completed my first 5.3 mile race today. This is the longest race I have participated in so far. It was a lot of fun.

It was the women's classic....supporting womens cancers. Only women can participate.

I ran this with my friend Ashley. Here we are waiting for the race to start.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/5mileracelinzandashley.jpg

The 5 mile race started first at 940am. It was a sunny day but cool and windy. I was freezing waiting to start but once we got going I warmed up quickly.

Here we are walking to the start
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/5milerace.jpg

We somehow started in the front. We didnt plan it I guess we just werent really thinking. There were 350 participants and once we started it felt like all 348 of them were passing us.:lmao:

We completed our first mile in 10:30 which is pretty fast for me but apparently still slow compared to everyone else. Ashley usually keeps a 10min pace for a 5K but since she has not run further than 3 miles she decided to hang back with me so that I can motivate her to keep going. Gotta love the girl she made me feel good for the day.:lovestruc

The first half of the run was pretty flat. Here we were approaching the 2.5 mile mark.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/5milerun.jpg

My parent and Ashley's husband were standing there to cheer us on which surprised us. It was a good motivation to keep on going. There was a paramedic cart there and I wondered why. Later my mom said a lady fell right before we got there. Poor thing.

The rest of the race was pretty boring. Not many supporters or music. There were 2 teenage boys during mile 4 standing and dancing on a picnic table cheering for us. It was quite funny and they were so cute I wanted to stop and give them a hug.:rotfl:

At the end of mile 4 there were 3 big hills kind of like an up down up down up down pattern. The downs were great but the ups were quite a killer. The first one I stopped to walk and at one point thought I would have to use my hands to crawl up it...it was so steep. The second and third we ran up. I was glad they came at the end because I think it would have really wiped me out in the beginning mentally.

Here we are completing mile 5 and rounding the corner to head to the finish.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/5mileracealmostdone.jpg

We are still smiling!!!!!!:)

We started sprinting and then after a min or so I realized we still had a ways to go. i guess I thought .3 wasnt that far.:lmao: I slowed down a bit because I could feel myself getting really out of breath. Ashley started to get ahead but noticed I was falling behind. She slowed down for me to catch her and we crossed the finish line together.:lovestruc

We completed it in 1 hour 2 min and 8 sec. a 11:57pace.
as we crossed we gave each other a high five. As we were walking away a reporter came over and asked our names and where we were from. I wonder if we will be in the paper tomorrow.:confused3

The post race food was good. We got a pink ribbon bagel from panera bread, pears, pretzels, and red robin gave out baked potatoe soup.

It was a great race and a great accomplishment. 13.1 miles here I come.:dance3:

It has been so long since I have posted in my journal. I am still working hard at my goal. The princess half marathon is only 3 weeks away. I leave for disney in 2 weeks and 4 days.:yay: I am so excited I cant hardly take it anymore. I wish I could leave tomorrow.:rotfl:

My weight loss has been somewhat stagnant the past few months. I am stuck around 180. I go up a few down a few. I am doing pretty well with my eating although I have had some cheat days more often than I would like. I think since I have started running for longer time frames it is messing my my metabolism.

So I know I am not even close to my weight loss goal but I am still very close to my half marathon completion goal.

Today I ran 10 miles. It is the farthest I have ever gone and I feel very good about it. I am a tad sore but not bad at all. I feel very strong and very ready for the princess.

I am making a promise to update my journal more and do my monthly pictures again. Even if I do look the same in each one.:rotfl2:

I will post a new pic in the next week or 2 of my outift for the princess. I am still deciding on what to wear for sure.

Hi Lindsay,

Good to see you back to your journal. It's funny, I remember your journal was one of the first I read when I came to the WISH board. It helped to inspire me to write mine and to commit to doing a half marathon. I just finished it at Disney in January. Good luck with the Princess 1/2. I'm sure it will be a ton of fun and I hope you will come back and tell us all about it!

I do have 2 more weeks left before my goal date but here is a before and after. I am assuming not much will change in 2 weeks but if it does I will post another pic before I leave for disney.:lmao:

The day I started a healthier me: 4-21-10 starting weight 215lbs.

Just about 10 months later my current weight 181.8. Total loss= 33.2lbs

This is also the outfit that I am planning on wearing to run the princess. Nothing fancy but my shirt does say princess with a tiara in rhinestones. I may be changing my shirt and getting a black tank in the running/moisture wicking material. The princess shirt is cotton and I am not sure how comfy it will be. I also may see what I can find at the expo.

Well I am leaving for the airport shortly. I fly out at 550pm to disney. I am so excited for my trip and even more so for the race. This race means more than just running 13.1 miles to me. It means that I am strong, I can do something I put my mind to, and that I am still "me". I had lost myself for awhile under the title of mother. I realized that I was not doing my children any benefit to have them see me just be their mom. I want them to be proud of who I am and show them by example that if you work hard at something...even if you think it is impossible....You Can Do It.

I will have a full report with lots of pictures when I return.

Before I start my race report I thought I would review the details of the trip.

We stayed at the Carribean Beach Resort from Feb 24, 2011- Feb 28, 2011. It was an all girls weekend.

Our flight left Thursday evening at 550pm. We had a very smooth and enjoyable flight....minus the toddler that screamed and cried for 3/4 of the flight two rows behind us.:headache: I felt so bad for the mom she tried her best to calm her down but the child was just not having any part of it. We arrived at MCO at 815p. It was a smooth process to get our luggage and we only waited about 5 minutes and our ME bus was there waiting to take us to CBR.

We were the first stop! Check in went quickly and we were so excited to here that our room was on the first floor and in Martinique right next to the food court and bus stop.:woohoo: I was so excited considering we did not pay for a preferred room.

Here is our view:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011013.jpg

We found our room and headed to the food court. I ate a grilled chicken sandwich. Once we finished we went back to the room and got ready for bed. Unfortunately we had toilet issues. It kept running and wouldnt flush. We called and a gentleman came within 10 minutes. He fixed it quickly and we were off in dreamland shortly after.

We woke up fairly early out of habit today. I think it was somewhere around 630am. I had stared a new book on the plane so I decided to lay in bed and read. With 2 young boys at home this is a rare occurence for me to be able to do this. It was really really enjoyable and relaxing.:goodvibes

Around 8am we went to the FC for breakfast. We got ready and decided to take a walk around the resort before catching the bus to the expo. I would guess we ended up walking a bit over a mile. The resort is so beautiful. It is one of my favorites. I cant wait to bring dh and the boys here...hopefully someday soon.

Here is one of the pics we took:

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011012.jpg

We got to the bus stop around 930 and waited by this sign:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011014.jpg

Our bus came shortly after and we were on our way to the Expo. While driving I got a call from Kathy aka Mikamah. She was there waiting for us and Lisa and Rose were also on their way. I was so excited to meet my BL (biggest Loser) friends.

We got off the bus and had to walk about 1/2 of a mile to the expo area. Here are the signs:

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011026.jpg

and here I am with the BL group.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011017.jpg
From Left to Right:
Rose(Rose&Mike), Me, Kathy(Mikamah), and Lisa (LisaH). It was so great to meet everyone in person. They are some amazing women and I could not have done this race without there support. I am truly blessed to have found such an amazing group to be a part of.

We stood around for just a short while and chatted. Then the fairy godmother came out and we counted down to the opening of the expo. They sprayed confetti streamers into the air and the expo was officially opened. There were two lines....one to just go in and the other to get a pic with the fairy godmother. Well I couldnt pass that opportunity bye. So I got myself some pixie dust.:wizard:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011018.jpg

and here I am with the FG.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011019.jpg

I just had to get my pic with the footmen too.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011020.jpg

We walked into the expo and this was our view from upstairs:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011021.jpg

We headed down to pick up our bibs and goodie bags. I said goodbye to my friends and spent the next hour shopping like crazy. I would recommend that if you do not want to fight huge crowds to make sure you go right for 10 on the first day of the expo. There were alot of people but it was managable.

Up Next: What did I buy?and did I find that perfect race shirt I was looking for????????????

Hi Lindsay!! Congrats on the Princess!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1: Wasn't it awesome? I loved everything about it. And this year's shirts and medals are so cool.

I was bummed that we missed meeting up with everyone but love looking at all your pictures!! (we found Lisa at the expo - thank goodness for those green WISH shirts!!!:goodvibes) Jen and I were scanning all the tables on Sunday at Ohana because we thought that you had reservations at about the same time as ours (ours were at 5:30PM) but sadly, no luck. Hopefully next year will be less frenetic and we'll find everyone..

My shirt: I bought the pink tank that says "Princesses never finish last". :goodvibes Although my favorite sayings were on some of the non-Princess merchandise. Here are a few of my favs (some may not be exact!):
If you see me on the ground, please pause my garmin
I thought they said "rum"....
This IS my fast pace...
tee hee hee hee :lmao::lmao:

Were you as overwhelmed as I was at the sheer number of runners? I felt like the country mouse coming to town. Jen took a ton of pictures - I can't wait to see them. She did such an awesome job on our shirts and tutus. I'll post pics when I can figure out how to do it!! :rolleyes1

I'm so glad that you had a great girls weekend. Both of our families were with us and everyone had a great time. I wish I could hit "re-wind" to do it all over again!

I love this, Lindsay. It is so true, and I too feel like I am finding myself again, and that Michael is learning that I can do anything I set my mind to, and so can he. I bet your boys are so proud of you.

Love the pictures, and can't wait to hear about your race. It was so much fun, and what an amazing experience to be a part of. I think now that it went by so fast, though I didn't feel that way at the mile 10 overpass, but it was a whirlwind of a day. Good for you for getting this all down now while it's still fresh in your memory.

Hi Jude! Glad you ladies had a great time. I looked around at Ohana's too and did not see you guys. We got seated at 510p. If you were standing in the back of the room where they get the bread and facing outward we were in the left hand corner of the room. I cant believe I didnt see you girls there. Its not that big of a place.:confused3

I too wish I could hit the rewind button it was just such an amazing experience. I am hoping to do it again next year with my dh and boys.

Hi Lauren. So glad you were there and had a great experience with the half. Feel free to come back to our team! Its not a fast moving thread so I am sure you can pick up right where you left off. How is your body doing? I remember you were having leg troubles and GI issues right? I hope you were all healed up and really got to enjoy the race.

Hey, Lindsay! You have a great memory! My leg has been fine since last summer, but my reflux is still bad. I am planning to start a super restricted diet in March to see if that helps--I'm just waiting until after spring break because I know I can't stick with it when we're on vacation.

I'll pop in and visit the Incredibles today. Thanks for making me still feel welcome.

Thanks for joining. My name is actually Lindsay. Im glad you found my report. Did you do the race??? or are you thinking of doing it next year??? just curious. I am very proud of myself for doing this. I am excited to write more although I left my camera at my parents house and I need to take pics of the goodies I bought at the expo. So it may be delayed a day or two. Thanks again for reading along.

First thing we did at the expo was to find the table with our bib numbers. There was no one in line and I gave my number, signed my name, and got my bib and sticker for my bag check. I then took my waiver over to the goodie bag area, I handed it in and got my bag.

Inside the bag was a tshirt and marketing/advertising papers. I was really surprised that this was all that was in the bag. Last year I remember seeing that there was also a pair of socks and a disposable camera. Did anyone else think the goodie bag lacked goodies?

Here was the tshirt which I loved and the bag.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/princesspurchase005.jpg

I had a few things planned to shop for.

1. a belt that would hold my cell phone and my energy food (twizzlers & pretzels)

2. an "I did it" tshirt

3. a cool tshirt to wear during the race.

The first booth I saw was the I-fitness belts. They had all different sizes and colors. I choose the one with 2 pouches and of course pink because I was in a princessy mood.;)
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/princesspurchase006.jpg
I really liked this belt because it was that spandexy material and once you put it around your waste it did not move/slide. I paid 27$.

Next I hit up the princess merchandise tent. This area was a bit crowded!!! There was one "I did it" tshirt to choose from so that made my decision easy and I also found a cute tank that I just needed to have too.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/princesspurchase003.jpghttp://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/princesspurchase004.jpg
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/princesspurchase001.jpg
Both shirts together cost around 55$ but my mama was nice to foot the bill for me on this one. I just love her!!!!
at another stand I got a magnet for my car ($6) that is in the pic with the tank top.

I thought I was just about done shopping and a bit saddened that I did not see any cool tshirts to wear for the race. I headed over to the area to check my dtag. As I was walking down the last row of vendors....I spotted it............
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011138-1.jpghttp://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011139.jpg

It was the shirt that I had planned to get online for the race but I waited to long and when I went to order it there were out of my size. This time I was in luck. They had my size. I purchased it and did a little dance because I was so excited!:lmao:

After the exciting shopping spree I walked through the dtag area and waited for my mom and aunt to sign up for the chear squad package. I told them that I had heard it was not necessary and that they would still be able to get good spots to see me at the castle and at the finish but they really wanted to purchase them. Who was I to tell them what to do it was there money.:confused3 While I waited for them I spun the wheel at one of the vendor tents to see what I could win. I ended up with a pencil and a pack of rice.:rotfl:

As we were leaving the expo I stumbled upon this.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011023.jpg
I though the glass running shoe was so cool!

Up next an afternoon/evening of doing exactly what the race experts advised me not too.

I agree that the goodie bags lacked goodies and the expo lacked a certain..."ex." Or maybe "po." OK, fact is, I missed the clif-tasting booth that is almost always at these things. AND the Cascadian Farms sample booth, too. The expo was lacking in food samples. There I said it. And the bag...last year had a sharpie, I believe, maybe some clif blocks as well as a protein bar. I think you are right that they included socks last year. I think they may have been giving those out at Lady Foot Locker, but I didn't like the ones from last year that much, so I didn't try to get another pair.

At least the shirts were properly sized this year.

Great pictures! I did not notice the running glass slipper. I am not sure that heel would hold up well to 13.1 miles of running, even for a midsole strike or tiptoe runner.

And what a sweet bit of good fortune that they had the very exact shirt in your size that you had been wanting!

So how did your fam like being part of the "ChEar Squad?" Or am I getting ahead of you here?

jbm02

Lindsay, I bought the same pink tank!! :goodvibes And what luck to find the exact "Cinderella slipper" shirt you really wanted to buy!!

This was my first really big race expo so I wasn't sure what to expect. But since I had no expectations, I wasn't disappointed with it. But not blown away.

Did you see the "One More Mile" vendor? LOVE their shirts for the terrific and funny sayings, as well as material. BTW, did anyone get a "sweaty band"? I swear by my bondi-band but the "sweaty bands" were so cute. I wanted to sign up to be in the pixalated (spelling??) end-of-race picture but somehow never found that section. ..hmmm..yet one more reason to return next year!

Yup, not much "swag" in the "goodie" bag. -But I love this year's t-shirt design and my DD has already hijacked the sneaker bag! :rolleyes1

Your trip report is awesome...keep it coming!!!

I thought the expo was ok but I have not been to a really big one like this before so not much to compare it too. I would have liked to taste test some cliff bloks. I did love the shirt they gave so at least that is a plus but I just thought there would be some other fun things too.

I will tell you that my mom and aunt loved their goodie bags and thought the Chear Squad was worth the money for that alone. The got tshirts, a sports chair, and a big clapper. I will let you know about the other benefits as I get into the race day report!

I am loving your report!! I have to admit I was a lurker when you first started last year and then I wasn't on the boards much over the past few months - probably about the same timing that you had not been posting.
Your before & after pictures look fabulous!! Congratulations on reaching so many of the goals you have set for yourself.
I am someone who starts out strong and has a hard time finishing, but I think you are smart to keep doing races throughout the year. I would imagine that it helps to keep you on track.
I LOVE all of your t-shirts! I think the swag would be my main motivation for doing the princess 1/2 vs. another Disney race!
Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to seeing more of your report! popcorn::

Thanks for posting to say hello. It is very hard to finish something once you start especially when it comes to weight loss but I think having the goal of the princess is what has kept me going. I now have made it a routine for me so its easier to continue. The disney race was great and I am nervous that the next race I am doing is just going to be boring compared to what I just witnessed. It was an amazing experience.

Lindsay--I got the pink shirt too! And did you see the long sleeved t-shirt that was white and kind of see through? I got that one, too! (I have it on right now.)

Somehow I missed the pink polka dotted 13.1 magnet! I bought a mouse ears one, but I like the one you got a lot better.

We like the string bag, but there really wasn't much "free stuff".

Once we left the expo we walked the mile back to the bus area. There was a CBR bus just sitting at the stop waiting. We hopped on and we were off. The bus was all to ourselves. We were back at CBR in no time and dropped my recently purchased items off in our room.

The plan for today was to have an easy day touring the countries of epcot, getting on some rides, dinner at Cape may buffett, and illuminations.

When we arrived at epcot I was so excited to see that some of the topiaries from the F&G festival were out already. Here were some of my favorites.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011046.jpg
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011041.jpg
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011045.jpg

We were all starving so our first plan of attack was to find some lunch. We thought the fish and chips from the UK sounded good and I never tried that before so we headed to the Yorkshire County Fish Shop.

Apparently everyone else had the same idea because this is the line.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011036.jpg

the wait was well worth it. This was the best fried fish I ever had.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011039.jpg

We sat in the back along the lagoon. The sun was shining and there was a warm breeze going. It was a moment during the trip that just made me smile and feel so happy.

Once our bellies were full we walked through the countries by this point my legs and back were feeling extremely tired and I was starting to think about all the advice that was offered to me. Most of which consisted of "take it easy and rest your legs during the few days prior to the race". I guess I was going to learn the hard way.:headache:

We made it through the countries from america to mexico and my mom and aunt requested a smoke break. :headache: I am always trying to get them to quit but I will at least say they kept the breaks to the minimum during the trip. While they took there break I got myself one of these.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011052.jpg Oh baby was that yummy. I only ate half and then shared the rest.;)

We made our way over to Future World. We did Ellen's Energy, Figment, The land, and Spaceship earth. This was my first time on Spaceship earth since the changes and I loved the video thing at the end. Here are some of the funny pics of my mom and I.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011055.jpg

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011053.jpg

After the rides we took a potty break and I called home. My dh and boys were doing great. I talked to both of the boys and had to hold back my tears. I missed them so much. Disney is just not the same being there without them.

We started our walk over to the beach club for dinner. I love this resort and I love love love this buffett too. I got a plate of salad, a cup of NE clam chowder. A small piece of flank steak (oh my god this was to die for). 2 buckets of clams and a few crab legs. Everything was soooo good. I was a bit fuller than I should have been but I had to get my 40 dollars worth.

After dinner we walked back to Epcot. We got a spot for illuminations. I just love illuminations! no matter how many times I watch it, it gets me teared up everytime.

We still wanted to get on test track and soarin so we decided to stay for EMH. We went to test track first along with the other hundreds of people with the same idea. It ended up being about a 40 min wait but it was fun.
We are in the back row:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011063.jpg

We went right over to soarin and that was a 50 min wait. Im glad we waited for this. It was my first time riding and I loved it. It was my aunts favorite ride too. My mom on the other hand did not enjoy it and had her eyes closed after 30 seconds of the ride starting.:lmao:

We walked to the bus stop after soarin and I will admit, I was beat!!! my legs ached and I was so exhausted. I was second guessing my plans that I had for the next day. I knew that I would need to take it easy or that my race would be complete tourture. We got back to the resort around midnight. I was asleep within minutes.

Up Next: How did I spend my Saturday....the day before the race.

So excited to be following along in your report. You are so smart to do this right away, before the details start to fade. I'm craving some fish and chips right now, and I showed michael the ice cream sandwich to make him jealous. He loves them.

We were up nice and early this morning. I got a croissant and a side of bacon to eat from the food court for breakfast. (I know not the right choices but I was on vacation.;)) We got to the bus stop by 830am and were off to Animal Kingdom.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011066.jpg

We made it to AK just in time for rope drop. I think they have such a cute show to open the parks.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011068.jpg

It wasnt before long that the ropes dropped and we were on our way. We decided to do the safari first. There was a 20 min wait posted but we basically walked through the que and got on the ride. Here are a few shots I got.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011080.jpg

The safari was great. We got to see the baby elephant who was so cute.

Next we were on a mission to face the yeti! Last trip we decided to skip it since there was a long line and we had the boys. So this was my first time riding it.
and the mountain was awaiting me......10 min wait...cant beat it!
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011087.jpg

I absolutely loved this ride and could not believe I missed going on this last time. It was so fun. My mom and aunt loved it too. I quick made a call home to dh to tell him about it and I assured him that we will do this next time we come.

The final thing on our agenda for AK was to do It's tough to be a bug.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011091.jpg

We got right in as the show was starting so we didnt have to wait.:woohoo: I really enjoyed this show this time. Last time my boys completely freaked out during the show and I was consoling them. So this time I was able to enjoy it.

We took a few more pics.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011092.jpg

and then we were off to our next destination......Hollywood Studios. It was about 11am and I was really hoping to still get fast passess for TSM.

Would I get lucky enough????????????

Lindsay, wow, you are looking fantastic! :worship: WAY TO GO!

You are an inspiration to me b/c we're both around the same weight and I'm really working on trying to train for a half marathon, but I'm only up to 3.50 miles so far. I was really beginning to think that I would never make a half marathon at my weight, but you have given me new hope. :thumbsup2 I was also beginning to think only super skinny people ran half marathons.

Seriously, you look great! I love the runner's legs, I hope my legs look that good eventually :rotfl:

Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see the rest of your TR! Oh, and I will definitely be praying for your DH. I hope he gets a job offer soon.

Can't believe I missed your update yesterday. I had bacon a couple mornings before the race too, Lindsay, but I figured with all the sweating I was going to be doing, I'd better make sure I had enough sodium on board.:lmao: Michael does not like It's tough to be a bug either. We've done it 3 times now, the first time he was pretty much horrified, the second time last year, I didn't remind him he hated it the first time, and we went on and again he hated it. This trip, he and my niece decided they wanted to do it, since it had no wait, and since he was a little nervous, I promised him I'd buy them both another pin if they didn't whine or cry, and again he didn't like it, but no crying. :rotfl:We love Everest too. I'm loving your trip report. Keep it coming.

I'm over 200 pounds, and was able to do it, but Lindsay is my hero, she was able to do it, and have time to wait in character lines during the race. Hope I'm not giving out any spoilers to the trip report.;) There were many women my size or larger walking or walk running the race. I run/walk, and toward the end of the half more walk than run. You can do it Nicole!!

Nicole- Thank you for your kind words about my legs. I always had muscular legs from playing so many sports and I am so glad I am finally starting to see the muscles again. For years they hid behind layers of fat.:lmao: As Kathy already said it....you can definitely do this. Usually during local races I feel like people are looking at me and wondering how I am going to run with them since I am bigger. The princess was the first race where I didnt feel that way at all. There were so many women with different types of bodies. Your weight will not hold you back, honestly it may keep you at a slower pace, but still you can and will do it.

Kathy- Thanks for sharing the story about michael and Its tough to be a bug. The poor kid!:lmao: At least he got a pin out of it.:rotfl2:

Ok now to get going on another update!!!!!!!!

Im not sure how I forgot to mention how sore my legs and back were when I woke up on this morning. The walking from the day before really made me sore and tired. I was starting to re-think my plans for the day.

We headed out of AK towards the bus stops and realized that we walked the wrong path. How I have no idea other than my mind was preoccupied thinking about the race and the other two just trusted that I knew where I was going. So we added alot of unneccesary walking.:headache: But we finally made our way to the correct bus stop for DHS. Within minutes were hopped on the bus with only one other person. We got pretty lucky with transportation this trip.:thumbsup2

We arrived at DHS and it was looking pretty crowded. We headed straight to pixar place to see if we could still get TSM fast passes.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011095.jpg

No luck....none left! The wait time was 90 minutes so we decided to skip it.:guilty:

I was really really getting hungry anyway and by this picture you can tell I must of been dealing with low blood sugar because I was acting a bit goofy.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011096.jpg

So we headed over to pizza planet. This was my first time eating here. I would say the little cup of salad they give you is yummy but the pizza was a bit too doughy for me.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011098.jpg

I realized that I had alot of firsts this trip. Its amazing how you can go somewhere so many times and still have so much you have yet to do or try.

So after our lunch I headed over to check out wait times for R&R and TOT while the others had another smoke break.:headache:

R&R was a 20 min wait and TOT 30. So I grabbed fast passes for TOT and waited for the others so we could get in line for R&R.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011100.jpg

While I waited I called home and got an update on how ryans last bball game went. He scored 6 points and played good defense. I was a proud mama and as I talked to him on the phone I once again fought back the tears. I was missing them alot on this day. So while I waited I had myself another treat.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011102.jpg

I only had 1/2! I gave the rest to my aunt. She finished it up and we got in line for another first ride of mine!

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011103.jpg

This was my favorite ride of the trip. I loved it. What an amazing ride!!!!

Once we got off we got in line for TOT and by that point it was only a 5 min wait so we didnt even need our FP.:confused3:rotfl:

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011104.jpg

This was the 2nd time I rode TOT and I am still not sure if I really like it or not. My aunt went on and said she is glad she did it but wont do it again.:rotfl:

We decided to get a spot for the parade and relax our feet a bit. We got a spot right on the curb and watched the actors that they had out to entertain everyone. I had tried to keep my sunglasses on my head so that I wouldnt look like a racoon with the sun I was getting. The policeman kept coming over and yelling at me to put on my glasses. If he saw me with them off he would come back over. It was kind of funny. It really helped passed the time while we waited.

The parade began and I would say it was good although I liked the old one better. I did get a few shots of some of our favorites.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011117.jpg
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011119.jpg

After the parade I told my mom that I wanted to stay at the park for a little and that they could go to the parade at MK for 7 but I was going back to the resort to rest. My legs were feeling a little better but still very sore and tired. I was getting nervous that I was really doing myself in with all this walking. They were fine with that.

First we took a ride on the classic. The great movie ride. This was the first time that we got a really bad and annoying tour guide. From the start I could tell this girl was not a very good actress and she had the most annoying voice. Well of course the ride would get stuck right???? We got stuck in the Tarzan room and between tarzan yelling and swinging and this girl talking I wanted to get out and walk to the exit.:lmao: She kept saying the same thing over and over again and was yelling at tarzan to stop. It was so awkward. We were stuck for about 20 min. I was so ready to get off that ride.

Next my aunt and mom wanted to do Indian Jones but I noticed AI was also at the same time. So we split up. I havent seen the AI experience yet so I was excited even if I was by myself.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011112.jpg

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011111.jpg

I took some pictures waiting for it to start. This show was awesome. There was one contestant who did so well. She was only 15 and she was amazing.

After the show I walked out and found my mom and aunt. My mom decided that we should still eat dinner together so we went to mama melrose to see if we could get a table.

We were in luck! We got seated within a minute or so. I ordered the chicken parm. It was so good and the spaghetti with it definitely gave me the carbs I would need for the next day.

After dinner we said our goodbyes and they were off. I decided to walk through the shops and I found a few things to take home for the boys. I have to admit the time I spent alone in the park and the evening at the resort was so peaceful. As much as I enjoyed the company of my mom and aunt I think I really just needed sometime to myself.

I went back to the resort and got changed into comfy clothes. I took my book and went to the hot tub. I just soaked my feet and legs while I read my book and It was wonderful. It made me feel extrememly tired so after awhile I got out and went to the FC to see what i could get for the morning.

The grab and go market line was so long and there was barely anything left to buy. I did get a rice krispie treat and a banana. I finally made my way back to the room.

Up next: Getting everything ready for my big day!

As I was walking back to my room I saw this balloon in our patio area.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011134.jpg
I think someone just left it there but I thought it was symbolic because it was a princess balloon.:goodvibes

Back in my room I hurried to get my clothes together. I fiddled with my new fitness belt for about 20 min. I just couldnt find a comfortable way to wear it over my shirt. I felt like it made my chub pudge out.:rotfl: I finally decided on wearing it under my shirt but along the top of my shorts.

Then I had to decide how to do my ponytail and how I was going to wear my new bondi band. (by the way thanks again rose). That took another 20 minutes.

Here are my items all laid out and ready to go.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011140.jpg

I hopped in the shower and read a few more chapters of my book. By then my mom and aunt had returned. They were all giddy and just loved the parade and loved being in the MK. I havent seen my mom this happy and excited about something in years.:goodvibes I really thought this trip was all for me but I think she ignited something that was lost inside her too.
They went outside to sit at the patio and i decided to close my eyes. It was a little after 10pm and I had a big day ahead of me.

UP NEXT: Will I be able to sleep with all the anticipation????

The phone rang at 245am. I was a bit confused listening to stitch. Then I realized it was my big day. Wow it was finally here. I was amazed that I slept so soundly, I dont remember waking up once. I was so happy for that since I usually have a hard time sleeping the night before a big event.

I hopped in the shower mainly just to wet my hair. I got out and got my gear on. I tried to stomach a banana and part of a croissant but only got in a few bites. I felt nauseated trying to eat so early in the morning...that plus the nerves too.

Here I am ready to go at 3am.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011141.jpg

I was so excited. We walked out to the bus stop and there were a few other princesses waiting. The bus came within a few minutes. By the time we left CBR the bus was full of anxious princessess ready to run. The excitement was in the air.

We got to epcot quickly and it was still dark out. The ball looked so pretty lit up in the distance. Here I am but you cant see the ball all that well, the picture does not do it justice.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011144.jpg

I took a picture of my chearleaders. They both purchased the chear squad package. I told them the reviews said it really isnt necessary but its what they wanted to do. They did the gold package which is $50. I will tell you there thoughts on it as the race report continues.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011145.jpg

We followed the crowd of princessess and some princes too.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011142.jpg

It was a pretty good hike to get to the area but I started to see the family reunion tents and knew that my BL (Biggest Loser) friends should be there. When I got there I saw Rose and Mike, Lisa, and Kathy and also met Corinna too. It was so nice to know other people there and to have someone to be with while waiting for the race to start.

We got in line for the porta potties which werent too long.

Here we are: a bit blurred sorry!
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011146.jpg

Shortly after we heard the announcer tell everyone to make there way to the corrals. So I said my good byes to my mom and aunt and I headed on my way with my friends.

Now I remembered everyone saying it is a long walk to the start area but I thought I already did that. Well I was completely wrong. We walked for about 20 min or so to get to the start. There was a huge crowd of people and lots of porta potties with long lines. Kathy, Lisa, and I decided to hop in line about half way to the corrals and Mike and Rose decided to keep moving so we said our goodbyes and wished them luck. The line was long and took a bit but we did our business and carried on. A few minutes later at the next set of potties Kathy and Lisa decided to stop and I said my goodbyes and headed to my corral. I was now by myself and I started to get a bit nervous. I found Corral D pretty easy. I was surprised at how closely they check your bib to be sure you were in the right spot.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011148.jpg

I decided to head to the front of the pack and weaved through a bunch of runners. I was about a 1/4 of the way from the beginning of the group so I thought that was good enough. I sat down to stretch my legs and proceeded to untie and retie my shoes a handful of times. I was so nervous I think my OCD was kicking in.:rotfl: I also noticed my stomach was growling. I really should have brought my banana with me. I will make a note of that for next time.

I wasnt waiting long when the fairy godmother came out and gave her magical wish and started the race with a bang of fireworks. I got teary with emotion. The wheelchair racers went first, followed by Corral A. I was so pleased that they did the same thing for every start including the fireworks. That is disney magic.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011152.jpg

It was soon time for Corral D. We started moving up and then heard the banging of the fireworks and the roar from the crowd. Oh my gosh I was actually doing this. I was going to run a half marathon. The tears started running down my face but I think I was still smiling ear to ear. I thought to myself here we go, lets rock this thing!!!!! and Im going to enjoy every minute of it.

Wow Lindsay! Your TR is bringing me right back to the race. Can't wait for your next installment.

The first mile was very dark and very crowded. There were hundreds of spectators along the road but they were so far from the road it was hard to see. I thought my mom and aunts plans were to see me at the start so I was really trying to run and look for them at the same time. This went on for about a 1/2 mile. Then i realized how slow I was running and started to try to pick up the pace.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011153.jpg
The only problem was all the people around me. I tried weaving around people....just what everyone said not to do.:rotfl: I was so preoccupied with everything that this came up pretty quickly.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011154.jpg
Of course I was on the opposite side of the road so I had to weave back across to take a picture.:lmao:

My first mile I think was close to 13 minutes. My sports band seemed just a hair off with the mileage and that got me a bit concerned about my training.

As we got into the second mile I started to find more of a groove and tried to diligently keep my intervals going 3min run/2min walk. This mile was fairly quiet and I mostly entertained myself by giggling at the princesses in tutu's who were squatting and peeing on the side of the road.:lmao:

There were these cool guys on stilts too. I was tempted to treck across the road again to get a better picture but I resisted.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011155.jpg

I think in this mile was our first water station. They provide you with powerade first and then water second. The volunteers are very good at calling out what they have. This race was so organized. I took a cup of powerade and then washed it down with a few sips of water. I looked at my sports band and it was telling me I was only a few tenths away from mile 2. I looked in the distance and I could see the marker. My sports band seemed to be even further off track.:headache:

I made it to mile 2:woohoo:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011156.jpg

Mile 2 took 12:31 so I think I was going a bit faster.

Shortly after the mile 2 marker I saw the pirate ship and Jack sparrow and his crew but there was a line and I was not about to stop now. I kept going and shortly after seeing the pirates I saw this pretty balloon.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011159.jpg

Disney really knows how to keep your mind off of running. I ran by these cool guys.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011160.jpg

I couldnt believe the lines that form for the characters. I could not stop now I was still nervous about my time. I was doing well keeping to my intervals and was feeling great. At this point I could here alot of ladies around me encouraging each other to keep running or if they were walking they were gearing up to run more. I was starting to hear alot of whines and groans too. I was inspired by all of the encouragement but also felt proud that I was still feeling so good and was so happy with myself for all the training I put into it. There were lots of girls that I heard say they should have got out running more. ummm yep that would have been a good idea.

I was so excited when I saw this sign.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011162.jpg

You can also see the sun was coming up and it was getting brighter out. I was admiring the sunrise in the distance and thinking life was GOOD.:thumbsup2 Then I saw this.....

Mile 3 this mile took me 13:27 not sure why I went slower but I felt like it was all going so quickly!

love, love, love your race report. I hope you have this morning free and can get it all up today.:rotfl2: Yeah, right, a weekend free.

You're cracking me up with the weaving back and forth and the princesses in their tutu's peeing. So funny.

Can't wait for more.

Lindsay--enjoying your report!:goodvibes Isn't it frustrating when you think a mile should be coming up and you realize you are off by a bunch! The last couple miles Mike kept saying--did you mean to add distance to this race by running as far to the outside as possible and weaving through traffic!:lmao:
I think I gave him a VERY dirty look at this point.:thumbsup2

mommyof2Pirates
03-19-2011, 01:13 PM
Kathy- Your right once you have kiddos there no longer is such a thing as a free weekend but my boys seem to be taking it easy on me today and they are actually enjoying playing with each other so I may just get up a few more updates.

Rose- All the weaving and running off to get pictures actually added about a mile and half onto my distance. I didnt realize it in the beginning I just thought my sports band was not accurate. I even checked it with mapmyrun at home and it definitely was right on.

So I should be back later to get another update on but wanted to let everyone know my next race is tomorrow. I am doing the St Paddy's Day 5K. It is right before the parade and there is a 45min time limit. I am looking to beat my last official 5K time of 36:30.

This is also my dh's first race. He is excited but nervous. I think he will do fine and most likely beat me too. It annoys me but I am proud of him so that is ok. He is a very competitive guy so I know he wont slow down to run with me. He would be the one racing me to the finish.:lmao:

I will post about the race tomorrow evening. Thanks again to everyone who is reading along. It is great to re live these memories.

Ok 3 down and 10.1 to go.....

We started to approach the speedway which I thought was so cool. I didnt realize that was even there. I saw this handsome group of men and couldnt resist stopping. There were a few people in line but show me a group of good looking guys and I will wait.;) If any of you meet my dh dont mention that to him.:rolleyes1

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011164.jpg
I was pretty sweaty by this point and wasnt quite sure what to do with my hands. I was afraid to touch them.:lmao: I cracked up when i saw this picture of myself.:rotfl: These guys were so nice and they even called me princess.:cloud9:

After I got my picture I quickly got back to pounding the pavement. It only lasted a few minutes until I saw the water stop and the porta potties. I decided to grab my drinks and hop in a line since it wasnt too long. Now I can say normally I wouldnt have to stop but the fact that as you run all you see is porta potties it makes it hard not too.

I went as fast as I could and started up running again. I made my way to "hawaii" where I saw these two cuties.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011165.jpg

No time to stop now..... I loved the way they had this area themed including the music. and it's definitely not hawaii without some hula girls.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011166.jpg

The road really got narrow here and it became a bit crowded. I was slowed down quite a bit again. By this point I just kept running and my intervals began to fade away. I think the stopping had me feeling nervous so I felt the need to run. I was feeling good. The road started to widen and open up again and that is when I saw mile 4.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011167.jpg
This mile took me 14:30 which isnt bad for stopping for a picture and to use the potty.

We soon arrived to the TTC and had a really great adrenaline boost from these guys.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011168.jpg

There were so many supporters around cheering us on. It felt awesome. For some reason I thought we were really close to entering MK so I called my mom and told her I will be on main st in a few minutes.

We weaved around some roads and than I saw the contemporary in the distance.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011170.jpg

and the monorail was just coming out as we were approaching. I love this picture.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011171.jpg

I realized that I was further out than I thought so I had to call my mom back to say "Just Kidding". I told her I would call her once I was closer. Yes I was making phone calls while I was running. Probably another reason why my time was so slow.:lmao:

We made our way up one of our first hills. Now let me say to me this was not really a hill. I live in a very hilly area and we have much steaper and longer hills than this. So I was excited to be able to run up it with no problem. Another proud moment. At the start of my training I remember the slightest incline in the road slowed me down.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011172.jpg

Disney knows the right thing to do....put a bunch of guys doing tricks on the trampoline at the top. That is enough to get your mind off the hill.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011173.jpg

I soon came upon this sign.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011174.jpg

Mile 5!!! I have no idea how this mile took me 15:50. I know some of the roads were narrow and cramped but I dont really remember walking much.:confused3 Maybe it was just all the sight seeing and phone dialing I was doing.:rolleyes1

I was getting really excited because now I knew we were getting close to MK because I saw this.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011175.jpg

I called my mom and assured her I would be there soon.:thumbsup2

Before I knew it we were making the turn into the side entrance of MK.

My heart was pounding with excitement and my eyes were starting to fill with tears. It was the moment I have been anticipating for months.....the main thing I was striving for.....My run up main street and through the castle.:goodvibes

We turned the corner onto Main Street and it was breathtaking. The castle was in full view.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011177.jpg

There were so many people lining the streets cheering us on. I teared up seeing the young kids screaming and cheering and holding signs that said we are proud of you mommy. One guy was holding a sign that said my wife is a princess and I couldnt be more proud. Gosh it all made me so emotional and I didnt even know any of these people. I tried to watch for my mom and aunt but didnt see them. I wondered where the heck they were???? I saw a lady standing off to the side....I believe she was a Team in Training coach waiting for some runners. I asked her if she would mind taking a picture of me with the castle. She didnt seemed thrilled but she did it. Here I am:cloud9:

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011178.jpg

I made my way into tomorrowland and saw one of the boys favorites...Mr Buzz lightyear!!!!! There was a pretty long line and I was now a women on a mission. I needed to get to the castle.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011179.jpg

I also passed these fun characters.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011180.jpg

Then I saw the castle and we all cheered as we started to approach it. Now the one thing I really wanted to do was to get my picture with Cinderella and Prince Charming. I saw them by the castle and then saw the line they had. Oh my there were like 40 people in line I am not kidding you. There was no way I was waiting and wasting that much time. So I ran past and grabbed a quick pic.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011183.jpg

The trumpeters started to toot their horns and I ran through the castle. Everyone was cheering and I had tears of joy rolling down my cheeks. The moment was cut short when I had to stop because there was a back up coming through the castle. Once I got through it I heard my mom yelling my name.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011182.jpg

Let me tell you that Im not sure if this is worth $50 but my mom and aunt were front and center in front of the castle. My mom though it was a great spot to see me and said that the moment she saw me she knew that she would have paid any amount of money to be there. Apparently I must of been smiling ear to ear and glowing with joy.:lovestruc

I got into the line to get my picture in front of the castle. The line moved quickly, I got my pic, ran over to my mom so she could snap a picture of me with her camera, I gave her a high five and said see you at the finish, and I was on my way!!!! I would have loved to share the picture my mom got of me in front of the castle....quite arguably the most important picture of the race but, my mom took the picture without opening the camera lens.:rotfl2: She was so emotional and excited I guess she just wasnt thinking. We laugh about now.:rotfl: I just told her its more the reason for me to do this again next year.:lmao:

After my big moment at the castle I ran into adventureland and made it to mile 6. Im pretty sure this mile took me close to 18 min or so. Its a good thing there are no sweepers in MK.;)
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011184.jpg

I then saw some of our favorites that I couldnt pass up.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011185.jpg

My boys loved this pic!!!!

We ran into frontierland and I thought to myself that I quick ride on splash mountain would feel so good right about now.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011186.jpg

I ran by the train and some very supportive CM's.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011187.jpg

Right before we excited MK there were a few character meets set up. I saw our friend Peter but he had a long line.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011188.jpg

But these guys didnt so I hoped in.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011189.jpg

We exited the park and for a brief moment I had a feeling of sadness that the best part of the race was over. That was until I saw these guys.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011190.jpg

Now I have a thing for firemen in uniform....So this got me excited and gave me that boost of energy I was lacking after leaving MK. I was disappointed to hear Kathy aka. mikamah say that she saw these sexy guys dancing. I was jealous.:lmao:

Shortly after the firefighters I saw this sign. I figured since I was getting into the longer miles I needed to stop and take a picture with the signs. This became a strategy of mine as the race went on. I had to time it just right to find some else running solo stop to take a picture so I could offer to take theres if they would take mine.:lmao: Really you could tell I was doing this for the experience and definitely not the "race".:rotfl2:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011191.jpg

I took about 15 minutes or so for this mile too. Not sure why I was going so slow because so many people were walking and I felt like I was going so fast.:rotfl:

Now we were on the road heading back to epcot which is across the street from the road we ran into MK. I had heard that this is where it can get tough and a bit boring.

Well I didnt think so. I thought there was still plenty of entertainment to keep me going. It was starting to get quite hot but Disney really knows how to keep you hydrated. I made sure to take 2 cups at every station. The powerade/water mixture was really working for me. I also noticed at this point there was a majority of people walking and only a few running. I was doing mostly running at this point with just and occasional minute of walking or stopping for a picture.

This lovely lady had a line so I just took a drive by shot of her.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011192.jpg

There was no way I was passing up this one! I waited in a short line here.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011193.jpg

The one guy said to me "hello princess and i must say I love your glass slipper". So cute and in character. I loved it.

I never saw these ladies before but the line was pretty long so another fly by pic.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011194.jpg

My dad and husband are golfers so I had to stop for this one for them.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011195.jpg

and before I knew it I was seeing this.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011196.jpg Apparently I did not have anyone to take my pic at this one.:guilty: This mile was a little quicker at 14:34.

At this point I started to eat my twizzlers and pretzels that I had brought along in my fitness pouch. It was exactly what I needed to give me a bit of energy. Who needs GU when you have pretzels and twizzlers.:rotfl2: Im so not your typical runner.:rotfl:

I got a phone call from my mom saying they may not make it to the finish line because there was a major back up of people getting on the monorail. I told her she still had plenty of time since I just passed mile 8. I figured since I had out my phone I would send a mass text to my employees to let them know I just finished 8 miles and I was feeling fabulous. I joked with them that I would update my facebook status for them during the race just so they could know how I was doing and they thought I was crazy. Im sure my text made some of them giggle but they all responded with some very encouraging words. One of them said. Why are you texting us. RUNNNNNN! Which made me laugh.

I did this while taking a brief walk break along the golf course.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011197.jpg

and then I came upon this princess just standing alone so I stopped for a pic with her.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011198.jpg

Most of this mile was a bit quiet. There were some princessess really struggling at this point and I yelled out some encouraging words to them. I really felt like I was the only one running at some points which is odd for me because I usually have the feeling in races that I am always the one so far behind. I got to the gas station and these funny men were outside of it.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011199.jpg

and then low and behold I made it to Mile 9. I am not sure what my time was since I cant really see the clock in the picture. I am guessing that I was picking up the pace just a bit since my overall pace was 14 something per mile.

Love the updates, and I'm jealous of your pics with the men at the richard Petty car and even the hess station. But I did get to see the fireman dancing. :rotfl2: But now the big question I'll be waiting for is did you have time to get your pic with the princes? Then I'll be really jealous.

You had me filling up describing your run through the castle and seeing your mom. She must have been so proud of you, and what a thrill for her to be able to be there and cheer you on.

It's so cool to relive the race through your report. You did great getting so many pictures.

I love, love, love the pic of you in front of the castle. You look beautiful and so happy.

The next mile was a bit boring compared to all the others and it was getting HOT.:crazy2: I did more of my 3:2 intervals again during this mile because I was feeling a bit wiped. I also want to thank the wishers (I have no idea what there names were but regret not stopping to ask) that were handing out pretzels along this mile. I grabbed a few and chomped them down and then was pleased to see the water stop not to long after. That was all I needed and I perked up a bit.

I managed to get my pic with this lovely creature.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011201.jpg

I think the fatigue and heat was starting to get to me because I was now posing in the pics.:lmao: Everyone at home got a kick out of that.

Soon I was seeing this and knew I was getting close to the end.:cheer2:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011204.jpg

Yep I was right Epcot straight ahead.........:yay:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011205.jpg

There was a stretch that had these signs. It started out with healthy statistical information and than came the humerous ones.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011206.jpg

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011207.jpg

I loved these signs and I have to say it really took my mind off of the stiffness and fatigue I was starting to feel in my legs.

and then here I was....MILE 10!
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011208.jpg

In my training this was the farthest I went. I had worried about this moment for months. Will I be able to do 3 more????????????? I sure was hoping so. I was feeling pretty good and confident but still had that little bit of anxiety looming over my head.

I remember leaving that sign and feeling a bit pumped up. I was going to do it!!!!! I was completing my goal, pushing myself past all my fears and insecurities. I was not only proving to myself but to others that I am still a strong, and motivated women. Just because you have kids and a job doesnt mean that is the only thing that defines you. It is ok to do you and be proud of the woman that you are. I was never more proud of myself than I was on this day.:goodvibes

Im glad I pumped myself up because shortly after that was the dreaded "hill". Now prior to my half marathon training I strategically placed all my walking segments when I would get to any kind of hill, big or small. But once I started my "official" training I forced myself to run up the hills. I think my hard work paid off because this ramp was a piece of cake for me. It may have helped to have this guy yelling to keep running.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011209.jpg

Once I got to the top I could see the road that we just ran on. I was amazed at how many people were still behind me. I was also excited because every other race I had done I always would feel like everyone was ahead of me and would worry that no one was behind me. Not today!!!! I felt like a speed demon.:rotfl2:

Here was the road I already traveled with lots of princesses following.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011210.jpg

and here was the road ahead.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011212.jpg

Overall there was just alot of princesses!!!!!!princess:

There was not much at all going on this mile but I was so happy to see this crazy guy.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011213.jpg

and even more happy at what was behind him:yay:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011214.jpg

I am estimating but think at this point I was at 2hrs and 28min.

I honestly was feeling good. So good that even when I stopped to walk because I thought I should.....I only walked for a few seconds and just started running again. I really was just so excited to keep going and see more.

2.1 more miles of left!

Great update, Lindsay. I am loving all your pics, especially the mile markers and your poses. :thumbsup2 I got chills when I saw the one from the top of the overpass because I wanted to take the same picture, but when I got there, the road was empty and I could see some official vehicles up the road which must have been where the did the last sweep. It freaked me out a bit and made me move a little faster.

Lindsay,

I just fininshing reading your journal - I am now where you were when you started. I started the C25K program about 11 weeks ago and am now into week 3 of my 1/2 marathon training. I have lost 36 pounds since 12/4 and would like to lose about 40 more. I look forward to reading the rest of your trip report - sounds like you had a great time. I am planning on doing the WDW 1/2 in January with my DD and then the Princess in Feb. Thank you for the inspiration - its great to see how far you've come!

I see you are from Bethlehem - I was just there today at Lehigh University -we live right outside of Hershey - have you considered doing the Hershey 1/2 in Ooctober?

Hi Tammy, I will have to check out your journal too. It sounds like you may even be right where I am now with the weight loss. I would like to loose another 30-35. Good luck with your training. You will love the disney races. It is so magical and entertaining you forgot about how far you are running.;)

Lehigh is not too far from us. We live about 10-15 min from the campus. We have been to hershey park many times. I have not heard of the half they have there I will need to check it out. Thanks!

I was feeling so good after I passed the mile 11 marker. I think it sunk in that I can and I am really doing this. I made my way down the road and passed the ESPN area. They had some really great music playing and a motivating lady telling us we are almost there. I turned onto the next road, ran up just a small incline and then I saw this.........
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011215.jpg

Boy that was a motivating site. I just kept running. No more walking for me. I needed to get to that finish line. I also was really looking forward to seeing two of our favorite guys, Phineus and Ferb. I had read that they were suppose to be on the course. I was hoping that I wouldnt miss them.

As I got closer to the park I passed this all girl rock band. They were singing Lady Gaga's bad romance and I loved it. Although it was great to have them playing on the course I think it would have been even more fun for them to be playing in the tent areas after the race.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011217.jpg

Then there was a few characters along the stretch of the road. I cant remember who all was there but I could not pass up this photo op....
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011218.jpg

It wasnt long before I got to this sign.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011219.jpg

then shortly after we were running into epcot.:yay: I ran up past spaceship earth and there they were....two of our favorite guys.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011220.jpg
the cm rushed to take my picture so I was disappointed that I looked a bit silly in it.

I felt accomplished after that picture and was so excited to tell Ryan I got a chance to meet them. He was going to be thrilled.
The run through epcot was great. It was an out and back from the front of the park to the lagoon and back out the other side. (i think) There were lots of people cheering us on. It was pretty hot at this point and there was no shade but it wasnt stopping me!!!!!

As I ran back from the lagoon and out the CM area I heard the allejuiah's and saw the choir
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011221.jpg

My eyes welled up with tears. I am almost there:woohoo: I turned the corner and saw this.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011222.jpg I got even more emotional.....

then I turned the next corner and saw the crowd of people and the finish line.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011224.jpg

I had no idea how I would even see my mom and aunt but I started to hear my name being yelled out and saw them standing by the fence. My mom's face said it all. She was so proud of me and that made me cry even more. I ran as fast as I could....which in the video looks pretty slow:lmao: over that finish line and I raise my hands up in the air and said "Yes, I did it". I was never more proud of myself for sticking with something and finishing it to completion than I was today. It was an amazing feeling.

I got my medal and then got some pixie dust and made my way to the end of the fenced area. I stopped and got my professional picture taken by the wall. I still need to purchase those pics. They all got great. As I was leaving my dh called, he had done the runner tracker and knew I had finished. He called to congratulate me and said he was so very proud of me and that got me in tears yet again.

I went through the baggage areas and found my supporters.

and here I am with my bling.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011225.jpg

and here are my virtual supporters that I was so honored to meet and now call my real life friends. Lisa, Maria, Me, Rose, and Corina
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011228.jpg

I grabbed a powerade and an orange and stopped to talk with my wish friends. Rose reminded me to start drinking....I just love her.;) So thats what I did! I wanted to stay longer to chat but I was beat and really just wanted to sit down and relax for a minute. So I said my goodbyes and we took the short walk to our bus stop. God was on my side this day because the CBR stop was only about 10 steps from the tent I was at and as we approached the bus pulled up and we got on.:worship: I realized as I sat down how sore my legs really were.

I was smiling ear to ear all the way back to our resort this was an amazing day!!!!!!

UP NEXT: my overall thoughts on the princess half and my mom and aunts review on the chear squad packages.

I think you noticed my powerade had not been opened and told me I should remember to start drinking. Yes non-alcoholic for the moment.:lmao: I just thought it was so nice of you to "care" about me. After I got my pictures printed I realized how many I actually took during the race and it cracked me up. No wonder it took me so long to get to the finish.:lmao: Honestly I loved every minute of it and I wouldnt have done it any differently. I just read your journal and I loved it. I love all the pictures that you took and I love your journey that got you there. I am hoping to run the 1/2 marathon in January with 2 of my friends but am nervous about the training. Reading your recap/journey was really inspirational to me and makes me think that I am ready. I have a DD who I am nervous to leave at home with DH  but I think that doing the marathon would be the experience of a lifetime and such an accomplishment. Thanks for sharing your story. It really was such an inspiration! :goodvibes Congrats on finishing the marathon!!

You will do great. I was very nervous too. The best thing to do is follow the plan as close as you can. if you miss a few runs during the week no biggie just try to get in all your wkend long runs. This will be an experience you will never forget and it is the one time I say its totally worth leaving your child at home. Have fun focusing on you!!!!!

I was never really a runner either. I was very athletic in high school and we had to do long runs for field hockey. When I was a senior I use to take my group and hide in an apt building complex and then run back.:lmao: The coach figured it out after awhile and I got put into a group with 2 of the fastest seniors. I almost died.:lmao: So moral of the story is you can do anything you put your mind too and you will not be alone. There will be hundreds/thousands of other non-runners there to.

Thank you so much. I never quite thought I would be the one inspiring people but Im glad I did. I have read so many stories on here that inspired me too. Good luck with your training.

Hello!!!! Thanks for hoping over to my journal. I am really looking forward to reading all about your trip. I love your pics.

************************************************** *******

I realized I never quite finished up my report. There is not much left but I hate to not complete it so I will try to do that tonight. Thank you all for reading along.

I have not done so well since the princess. I have gained back some weight and have not run as much. Well I did do another half on May 1st but since then I only got out to run twice. It could be partly because it rained from May til June but that is just yet another excuse.

I am happy to say that this week I feel like I have really turned myself around again. I went back and read my journal too. That always seems to help me get inspired. Who knew I would be inspiring myself.

So last fridays weigh in was 196.6 Yes that is 16lbs of weight gain.:scared1: I will post my weight on Monday when I get back to work to use the scale and I am going to post a picture too. I think keeping up to date on here again will help me.

I finally finished reading this! Soooooooo wonderful! I love, love, love your report on the Princess Half...unbelievable. Honestly, I had tears in my eyes while I was reading it. I have been very skeptical about being able to finish 13 miles, but I feel more confident now, thanks to your report!

Thanks for being an encourager! I have 8 months to train!;)

You can definitely do it but start now. Get your self up to running at least 3 times a week for about 2-3 miles each time to build your endurance up for when you start your official training plan which most are about 12-14 weeks long. I cant remember if you said you started already or not but one way to get going is using the Couch to 5K program. If you need more info or any help let me know and good luck.

Thanks! I have started the C25K recently, but then went to WDW for 10 days...you can imagine the setback:laughing:

:thumbsup2 I'm in the same boat. I thought I was in decent shape until I started running!:rotfl: Holy cow! It was pretty sad the first day of the program...I had no idea how out of shape I really was!!!

I loved your whole thread! You are such an inspiration. I was tearing up looking at your photos. I cannot wait until I can do my first Disney race. I just started running seriously and am going to work my way up to a 1/2 marathon. Seeing your journal is just what I needed. I'm hoping to be able to do the Disneyland 1/2 in 2012. That will be the first race I'll feasibly be able to afford to do so I've got tons of time!

Thank you so much for your kind words. If you do the training you should have no problem endurance wise to do the race. If you are concerned about your speed and are close to the 16 min mile pace I would make sure you start at the top of the corral that you are placed in. That will give you a little extra time as the sweepers start 16 min after the last person in your corral crosses the start line. I would also say to try and skip the porta potties. Most people can do a half without stopping for the bathroom. I felt like I should stop because you can see all the potties and everyone stopping and it was one of those things like I better stop now just in case these are the last ones on the course.:lmao: I really could of made it the full race without stopping. Also stopping at the charachters takes more time than you think. I actually completed my 2nd half marathon almost 30 min faster than the princess race and that was without as much preperation and many hills. So if you are close to the 16 min. pace I would skip the photo ops or just do drive by pictures. Good Luck.

I am a bit annoyed. This week I ate well....ok well I am sure I could have done better but I didnt go over my points that much. I drank all my water everyday and I ran twice this week. Today I step on the scale and its the same as last week. ugggh.:headache: I was at least looking for a tiny loss....even half a pound would have been something.

Anyway I will not let it get me down. I am journaling/drinking water/and going to get my but moving. Hopefully next week will be a better outcome on the scale.

I still promise I will finish up my report and post a current picture as well.

thanks shakisha!!!!! It is really tough and I have learned that my weight loss/maintain is not a sprint its a marathon. You have good days and bad days. Good luck on getting started again. Journaling definitely does help especially if journaling your food.

So I realized I got a bit behind here. So I left off being frustrated that I didnt loose. the following week I ended up loosing 3lbs which put me at 193.6

On friday 6/24 I was down a little to 193.2

This weekend I gained .8 but quickly lost it and today I was back to 193.2. I will weigh in again this thursday. I am shooting to be down a lb.

I have run the past 2 nights and have eaten well and drank my water. The only thing that could possibly send me for a detour is TOM. I know it is lurking around the corner.:lmao:

Question...when y'all chose a resort, did you do the 'Resort Package' that is offered on the Princess Half Website? They say it's a discounted rate....apparently that weekend is Peak Season rates:mad:

Thanks!

I realize that I am very late reading your journal, but wow! Great job on finishing the Princess 1/2! I have been running and trying to lose some weight before we go to an event in September. I am sitting in mcDonald's with my son (I did get a salad!) about to cry reading your posts about finishing and your mom cheering for you.

I hope you get back on track! You've inspired me to keep going!

I just realized I never finished my princess trip report! So while I am sitting her bored waiting for Hurricane Irene to pass I decided what better to do than to finish my report.:thumbsup2

So I left off with me finishing the race, stopping and talking with my WISH buddies, and hopping on the bus back to the resort.

It was only a quick ride back and we were one of the first stops. I slowly got up.:lmao: and exited the bus. We got back to the room and I jumped in the shower while my mom and aunt sat out at the courtyard tables. It really was a gorgeous day.

Now this may be TMI but I had read in the booklet they gave us in our goodie bag that you should lubricate your body in frequent friction spots. It listed examples such as inner arms, between your legs, and nipples.:lmao: I was like why the heck would I need to put that on my nipples. Well let me tell ya. I got into the shower and couldnt figure out why that area was burning so bad. I realized I had chaffing and when I looked at my sports bra there was blood. :scared1: That totally did not feel good and now I use my body glide not only between my legs but in that area as well.:
I finished up quickly and got dressed. I wore my I did it T and medal.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011252.jpg

I grabbed a quick bite to eat at the food court. If I remember correctly I think I got a cheesesteak.:lmao: Meal of champions.:rotfl2:

We headed to Magic Kingdom! I was starting to feel a bit tired on the bus ride over. Luckily I met another girl who just did the princess too. We had a nice conversation about the race and that kept me awake.

We had arrived to my favorite Disney Park.:yay:

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011229.jpg

I stopped to get some photopass pics of me with my medal but I was a bit disappointed with the pics. I have yet to find a good photopass photographer I see everyone else's great pics they get but mine always seem blah. IDK:confused3

We started in fantasy land and saw Mickeys Philharmagic. I just love this! My mom and Aunt both enjoyed it too. We did Its a Small world because that is just a cant miss attraction. Then we headed over to splash and BTMRR. I got us FP for BTMRR the return time was not until 310 so we had plenty of time to do other things. Like ride Splash Mountain.:woohoo:

After Splash we took a short break and had my very first Dole Whip.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011234.jpg

We shared this while we caught some of the parade. I felt like most of our day was a bit rushed here because I wanted to show my Aunt all of the great attractions. I realized I didnt even take many photos. I think both the rushing and being completely exhausted had something to do with that.:rolleyes1

After our snack we saw the HOP. I havent been in here since 1996. I think I fell asleep within the first few minutes as did my Aunt.:lmao: Quite honestly I dont think I have ever made it through the who show without falling asleep.:rotfl2:

We then headed for a quick wake me up.....Space Mountain. This just is not a favorite of mine. I dont mind riding it but if they took it away I wouldnt be sad. My Aunt liked it and I was glad she at least got to experience it.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011235.jpg

It was then time to use our FP so we headed back over to BTMRR.

My mom took a second to cool off on the way.:lmao:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011236.jpg

We got right onto BTMRR. Now this ride I just love. Such a classic.:thumbsup2

Whew all this walking was making me tired....I think between the race and the walking I must have done a full marathon.:lmao:

We walked over to adventure land and did HM and POTC. Of course we got stuck in the HM. After I returned I was reading a post that said if you say George out loud 3 times in the HM the ride stops. Well someone must have done that twice because once we got going it stopped again for another 10 min or so.

By this point it was getting close to our dinner ADR at Ohanas. So we headed out of the park and to the ferry boat. The boat was just about to leave but the driver saw us coming. My mom and aunt start running and they yell back to me...hurry up and run. Ummm hello my legs feel like rubber bands.:rotfl2: The driver noticed how I was walking and noticed my medal and said dont worry will wait take your time. He asked me my name and announced to the full boat that Lindsay completed the half marathon today. Everyone gave me a round of applause. It was very nice and a bit magical.:cloud9:

It was a nice ride across the lagoon. There was a cool breeze going and it just felt so nice. What a wonderful day!

We arrived at the Poly and had some time to spare. I really wanted to take some pics but instead I found a seat in the lobby and just sat there like a blob. I was beat. My mom and Aunt shopped in the store and soon enough they buzzed us to be seated.

We had a corner table with a nice view of the MK. Our waiter was very nice and the food came out really quickly. I did not take any pics at dinner and I wish I would have since it was my celebratory meal. The meal was so so good. I completely stuffed myself. The only complaint I have is it all came so fast. This is one meal I would have liked for the food to come out slow. We got to see the coconut races and it was so cute. At this point I was really missing my boys...and my dh too. I just couldnt wait to get home to see them.

After dinner we headed back over to MK. It was alot more crowded than when we left it.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011237.jpg

We went on a few more rides. Carousel of Progress and Monsters Inc Laugh floor. Then we got a spot to watch Wishes. We stood right on the bridge into tomorrowland. It was perfect. I absolutely love the light show and pics they do before the fireworks. It was so amazing. I was tearing up just thinking about all the work I had put into getting to that point and that I finally accomplished what I had wanted to. I was so happy. The fireworks were wonderful as usual and it was a perfect way to finish our night.

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011246.jpg

We were all tired so we decided to just stroll through the shops and then head back. I bought the boys some stuff I cant remember what now its been to long. Then we hopped on the bus and headed "home".

ME was not picking us up until noon. We figured we would sleep in and pack in the morning and just enjoy our resort for a little.

Up Next: Our last morning in Disney :guilty:

So I wake up to my mom slamming her bags around. It was around 8am. I told her to be quiet and she said I should get up and pack so we could head to Downtown Disney before we leave. I told her I didnt think we had enough time but she insisted. She really didnt want our trip to end. She was having a great time and it was the first time in awhile that I have really seen my mom smile that much. We have just had a rough couple of years with deaths and health things with our family. It was just so great to see her smile. So I got out of bed, quickly showered and packed. My poor Aunt we rushed her out of bed too.:lmao:

We went to the custom house and checked out. We also checked our luggage for the flight too. It was very quick and went smoothly. Almost too smooth like I wondered if it all would work out ok.

The bus stop was just across the street and we hopped right on. We got there around 930. We were starving so we stopped at Earl of Sandwich. I am not a breakfast eater and I noticed the lady in front of me got a lunch item. So I ordered the BLT. It was delicious even at 930 in the morning. We all enjoyed our sandwiches. I would love to go back there again.

My BLT

My mom and her breakfast sandwich: See how happy she is.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/disney2011253.jpg

Once we finished we went shopping. I cant remember which store I went in but it was one of the smaller trendy shops. Possibly called Trendz or something. I noticed they had the D&B bags I had seen at the princess expo. My mom saw me eyeing them up and offered to buy me a wristlet for my accomplishments. As if the trip there wasnt enough. She is such a gem.:cloud9: The lady at the counter was very helpful. She showed me the 3 colors it came in. I decided on white. Then she pulled out 10 white ones. The designs are all similar but different. Boy was that a hard decision. Here is what I chose:

http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt254/mommyof2pirates/purse001.jpg

We then went over to the world of disney store. I got the boys a few more things and I got some popcorn for the girls at work. We got back on the bus and made it back to CBR with only about 10 min to spare. Soon enough the ME bus was there and we were on our way to the airport. I felt both :yay: but :sad2: too. I was ready to see my boys.

We got to the airport and made it through security without any problems. We ate lunch at the food court. I had McDonalds and I think my mom and Aunt just got something little like an egg roll. You can tell I dont get my eating habits from them.:rotfl2:

We boarded our plane....It was packed. I was sitting by myself and was on the inside by the window. I felt so clostriphobic. The flight was good and uneventful....just how I like them.:thumbsup2

We were almost the last ones to be left off the plane when it landed. I swear I was walking so fast I probably looked a bit silly going through the airport. I saw the boys as I was going down the escalator. They came running to me when I got the bottom and I gave them the biggest hugs ever. I was once again crying.

We got our bags and then had dinner together at Red Robins. They loved all their gifts i brought them. I was just so happy to be home.

UP Next: My overall feelings about the Princess Half Marathon and the thoughts on the Cheer Squad package.
