I'm coming late to this cruise and was very surprised to not see a thread started. So I'm starting my own. I hope we aren't the only DIS people on board for this cruise!

Yeah! I'm glad to see somebody else will be on board. I hope we get a few more and we can do a fish extender exchange (if you want.) It'll be me, DH, and my 2 girls - 11 and 4. But they have no clue. We won't tell them until we get there and they guess. I just hope I can keep it a secret.

I just did a "secret gift cruise". It was so hard not slipping. Good luck with that!
Why didn't they give us our own thread yet?

My Mother (80) takes me, my sister and children (now grand children and one great grandchild) on a yearly trip. We have done WDW before but this will be the first cruise for her and we sail on my 50th (OMG!) Birthday. :)
We're all excited and I have been perusing the boards for all the tips I can get to make this trip enjoyable since the age range is from 7-80. It should be interesting to say the least.

Welcome! That sounds like a great way to spend a big birthday.
The DIS has lots of good tips and tricks for cruising. This will be our 5th Disney cruise, so I'll be happy to answer any questions. Though we don't do many excursions because my youngest was too young before and now I'd rather just hang on the ship.

Totally excited. My youngest is making her confirmation this week and the three of us decided we are going to start discussing what we are going to do on the cruise.
My oldest wants to check out the Spa. I have not yet paid for the cruise in it's entirety, so I won't be able to book anything as of yet. My daughter told me she definitely would love to eat at Palo. This is a good thing because I was definitely planning on it. lol

Palo's is amazing. We are definitely going to book dinner there. I'm just hoping my friends join us on the cruise so my oldest DD has a friend to hang out with. Otherwise, she gets shy at the kids club and fights being left. I'm not sure how the youngest will be this time. Last cruise, she liked the kids club, then hated it, then liked it again (after we forced her back so we could go to the spa.)

I hope your friends can join you also, or I hope at least your children will enjoy the club this time so you can enjoy yourselves. I believe they allow the children to go back and forth in between the age groups now at the clubs. Maybe they will hang out together and have a better time.
After all our cruises this will be the first time I am taking my daughter to Palo, so it will be a pretty exciting dinner for us.

O.k. my daughter is begging me to make reservations at Palo as well as reservations at the Spa as soon as possible. I am going to have to try and figure out what night would be the best for us to go and then
I just have to pay this cruise in full. I am probably going to pay this one off within the next 24 hrs, so I can book.
Anyone else pay it off in full and book anything yet?

I have a question.
Does anyone know what are the perks to keeping the booking through DCL? I have a opportunity to transfer to a TA that is offering me more onboard credit.
i know once I transfer the booking DCL will not speak to me if I need anything changed, but is there anything I am not thinking of besides that?
The extra onboard credit sounds very tempting.

I don't know of any other than dealing directly with Disney than a middle man. Since we used DVC points, we plan to stay with Disney because it'd be easier if there were problems. But we had considered changing before for tempting offers.

I have one more week before I have to pay in full, I am going to ask around a bit more before I go and transfer the reservations.
I can't seem to get a complete answer from Disney on this.
Thanks!

So basically I have found out I just wont be able to discuss $ with Disney after I switch my reservations over. It is worth picking up the extra onboard credit.

My friend and her family will be joining us. So there will now be another couple with a DS13 and DD11. She is a platinum Castaway Club member (more than 10 cruises) so she already booked Palo's for us for dinner and brunch.

Don't worry, I'll socialize online enough for the both of our families. It is looking like a small FE group. If anyone is interested, just send me a PM with your info: email, names (if comfortable), ages (for kids), and room number (otherwise you get nuttin'.) Then I'll email everyone a list. I figure we can all just deliver when we have the time, rather than setting up delivery dates.

Hi pixiedust dawn
Dinner is very amazing. It is like a $200.00+ dinner. But unless you know your dining rotation it is hard to predict which night to do Palo's. My opinion is that Parrot Cay dining room you would not miss much. But again, you do not know which night you would be there. Your best bet would be to book brunch, which is also amazing but only done on the Day at Sea (only one for this cruise).

That's always a hard choice on the shorter cruise. I hate to miss the Pirate night, not because of the menu so much as I love the show in the dining room and like to have some room for the party buffet. I think that's usually the third night on a 4 night cruise. I also hate to miss the Animator's Palette show, but unless you know your rotation, that's hard to predict. If you don't mind missing the good bye show, I think Palo's would be a good way to end the cruise. No matter what, you will be getting better food at Palo's than in the dining room. I just hate to miss the fun stuff with our girls. Otherwise, I'd pick every night for Palo's... and brunch. :thumbsup2

And also Mean Queen and fellow cruisers, I was more in to booking the 'Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter' excursion at Nassau as my DD has been a bottle nose dolphin fanatic and I see two schedules for that excursion. The morning one id from 9:15am to 1:45pm at Nassau. I see that the ship arrives at Nassau at 9:30am only. How do they do the excursion which starts at 9:45? Isn't the time interval too short? Please help me if you have done this before . Thanks!

It's just a gift exchange/secret santa type thing. The "fish extenders" are little pockets hung from the fish clip outside the room doors. Your fellow thread members who sign up will leave little gifts in these pockets and you do the same. Everyone seems to do the exchanges a little different. I'm all for just delivering when you can, but maybe we can work it out so there's a gift every day. So if one day would work best for you, call it. If you aren't sure, then don't worry about it. You'll just give who is in your room, the ages for the kids, and the room number.
Do a search on the DIS for Fish Extender or FE. There's directions to make on on the board or you can buy one from Ebay (I did.)

We can do a cut off of when the first person leaves for the trip. If any late comers join, I can leave a note in the FE with their info with the understanding they may not get much since many people only bring enough for those originally signed up. I will get a list of the names, ages, and room numbers together. If anyone wants a certain day (for instance, if you have a pirate themed gift and want to do it on Pirate night) let me know. There just usually isn't a gift the morning we leave because everyone wants to pack their FE.

It's a small cruise and so far it seems to be a small DIS group, so it shouldn't be a big hassle. Each family taking part will deliver a little goody to the "Fish Extender" of the other cruisemates. Gifts I have gotten have been anything from pirate themed goodies (tattoos, eye patches, bracelets), homemade Disney themed book marks, Princess items for girls, Cars items for boys, or even non-Disney related stuff that represents you. The items are always small and inexpensive, but nice to find when you get back to your room.

I have decided to venture out and make my fish extender. I'm pretty excited and nervous.

It's been different on different cruises. I noticed on the longer cruises, people seem to dress up more. On our last cruise, we were about the only ones really dressed up. I'm also thinking the further away we get from the Pirates movies being out, the less interested people are in dressing up. This trip I bought matching tank tops for my girls with rhinestone girl pirate skulls. It's piratey, but not a full out costume. I just have to find something for DH and me to wear.

So far I have decided to sew my fish extender (my first sewing project). I have made things to decorate the door and I have so really cute tip envelopes.

I need to get magnet paper to work on my door decorations. But I have to do it without the kids around so I don't accidently spill the beans. I also have to finish and print all the online documents.
I'm going to send out a first round of the FE list when we get 2 weeks out. Then I'll do any updates about a week before. If there are any last minute changes once we get on board, you can put the info in my FE and I'll get it out to the rest of the group.

Maybe I am the only Dis'er going on the 8/13/10 cruise.
Hello we are on board with you too. We're doing a (WDW-DCL-WDW) 11 day road trip for our 5th Wedding Anniversary (Adult Only)
While we'll sincerely miss the madness of having our children at WDW and DCL...he he...We're looking forward to reconnecting on the Cruise.
All I can say is can't wait to go to Palo! Snorkling at the Cay! Did I mention Palo?
Our last Cruise with the family below in Dec was nice but the boat was causing motion sickness big time and our kids never stepped foot on the Cay. All smiles when we threw out the surprise that we were going to WDW to calm the blues!
Oh-well good reason to plan a trip on the dream in 2012!
We're really fired up about our celebration!

How is everyone getting to the Port? We are staying Animal Kingdom before we leave, so I reserved a rental car verses paying for the bus for 4 people. I was considering doing a town car. I saw Happy Limo and FL tours were popular on the boards, but I found a couple of companies that I haven't heard any discussion about on the boards: AAA Cruise Transportation, Sandman Transportation, and 247T.com.

We're just driving up the morning of. It takes us about 3 hours. We considered doing the bus from OKW since we're staying there after the cruise, but remembered the bus people get there a lot later than we do when we drive. We like to get on board as soon as possible! :thumbsup2 I bet the rental or town car would get you there earlier than the bus.

We are still waiting for our docs to come and I hope they hurry up, or we may be gone before they arrive. That would not be good.
We are leaving here on August 2nd and staying at the Hilton at the airport. We leave on our first cruise August 3rd. I will take a list of the people that want to do the FE with me.
Just got back from the NCL Epic and was hoping I could just do laundry and repack the same clothes. lol

Hi Carrie! I'd be happy to add you to the FE list. You can send me a private message once you reach 10 posts on the DIS. Since it's a short trip, I figure everyone can just take one day, whatever works best for you. It's up to each person if they want to get something for adults and kids, or just kids, or just a family gift. There are instructions on the board for a no-sew fish extender. My friends made them for the last cruise we did and they look great. I bought mine a few trips ago from Ebay. I'll private message everyone on the list with the information in a week, then again the week before the cruise if there are any changes.
You reminded me I need to buy some new magnet paper for our door decorations. For some reason, someone stole my name one from the last cruise. Though I can't figure out why anyone other than me would want a Shay "Mean Queen" door magnet. :confused3

Have you checked out the DIS DCL FAQ link under the Disney Cruise Line Forum section? It has lots of great info, including this little link to a no-sew FE: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30302583&postcount=609
Some people make stuff, some people buy stuff, it's all up to you on what you want to put in the FE. I think the FAQ has an area with ideas for that too. I think a lot of people decorate their doors, but it may only be the DIS that does the FE exchange.

LOL! There is. When my oldest was little, she called all the evil queens in Disney movies "the mean queen." One day we were at the park and I pointed out the Queen of Hearts by saying "Hey look! There's the Mean Queen!" The Queen of Hearts stopped, gave me the off with your head sign, then stomped off. DH and I were laughing hysterically, but my DD was majorly freaked out. Which made us laugh harder. So when I was looking for a name for the DIS board, I thought that would be pretty funny.

Welcome Carrie!! We are excited about the cruise too. This is our first Disney cruise. I decided to make my FE by sewing it, my first sewing project ever. :cool1: I haven't learned to sew completely in a straight line, so the ship rocking isn't the cause of my FE being crooked it, it really is. But it's not too bad.
For my FE gifts I did decide to make them. They have some really good craft ideas on the boards, and I have been exploring. I would post a pic, but I don't know how. :confused3

To post pics on the DIS, you need to first upload your picture to a site like Photobucket then copy and paste the IMG link into your post. My oldest and her friend love to deliver the FE gifts because they love seeing all the FE's that people make and how everyone decorates their doors. I may have to help deliver with my youngest so she can see them too.

A pop up laundry hamper or laundry bag can be very helpful for your dirty clothes. Then you just dump the bag in the suitcase to take home and put in the laundry room. I always pack a fan for white noise and to drown out the hall noises, especially this trip with us being so close to the mid-ship elevators. Also, a nightlight for the bathroom can be helpful for the little ones to find their way in the middle of the night, especially in an inside cabin.
Are you planning on doing the signed pillow case or picture frame? You can drop one off at guest services at the beginning of the cruise and it'll be returned signed by the main characters at the end. It's a very cool keepsake. I bought pillow cases embroidered with the girls favorite characters (from Ebay) for previous cruises. I think I may do the picture frame for this cruise.

Disney usually gives you envelopes with the title of the person the tip is supposed to go to. They also tell you how much is recommended. You pay at the end of the cruise, though I think you can pay up front through guest services.
I love your paper doll ideas. My girls don't know we're going on the cruise. So I can't give them anything that will tip them off. Though I may pretend we're going to have a long drive when we only live 3 hours from the port. We're in Florida.

You may also want to get or make an autograph book. My boys love getting the character signatures, and when we get home I put their picture with the character on the opposite side. I will also be leaving the pillow case with guest services. Under the DCL forums there is an excellent packing list. It gives tips from packing and tips for on the ship. I'm not sure how to find it, you can search the forum or I can email you it as an attachment. Also I found some nice envelopes, pics for magnets, and other things under the main DIS home page, Creative DISigns. They have great ideas.

This will be our fifth Disney cruise. We were supposed to do a 7 day for Thanksgiving this year, but cancelled because it was way too expensive. When we had to cancel a Grand Villa at Bay Lake because one group of friends weren't sure they could make it, we put those points toward this cruise instead. We also have a back to back on the Dream set for next Spring Break. Both cruises happen to be right after each DD's birthday so it's a double celebration.

We never did set up a board meet. I'm always really bad about making it to them between eating, unpacking, the castoff party, getting the kids into the clubs, early dinner... blah blah blah. But if anyone has any ideas on a good time and place, we will try to make it.

I know the "promenade lounge" is a good spot to meet. Anyone want to call a time on it?

I got the PM. Whatever time you guys decide its' fine. I know we have main seating time for dinner. Since we're driving I plan to get to the port so we can be settled before the rush comes. Depending on when everyone gets down there, we can possibly meet before the sail way, which is at 4pm, or at the party before dinner?

We are leaving shortly for the cruise. I will see everyone on the 13th in the Promenade lounge at 3:00.
If someone can bring me a copy of the FE list. I would appreciate it as I probably won't get internet service while onboard.
See you in a few days!!

I really need to get it in gear. I have to put my FE's together, do laundry, print out new magnets, and pack all without the kids noticing. I'm starting to think this secret thing is too much work. Oh, and my oldest turns 11 next week right before the cruise so I have all that to plan. I think I'm going to really need this cruise by the time it comes rather than just want it.

I got a bag full of FE gifts today ,hope the kids like them. Am not very crafty and I just started with the FE thing as we just finished our big move to another home. I have no idea what the kids these days like , I see that many kids are much older than mine and so I have no clue of what to buy. I am yet to start on the FE bag ..:)
This is my 10th post , so hopefully I'll be able to PM the stateroom no. to shay now.

My family has switched to the Aug 13 cruise from the 29th. Myself, DW Roxanne and DD Delaney (7) will be onboard. Heres hoping for perfect weather !
Myself,DH and DD will be there. Good to hear that another seven year old will be there too. Am seeing very little number of kids mentioned here in this thread, of that age. Since it is our first time cruising ,was worried about what the kids will do if they get bored with the activities in the ship.

Ticker looks great. I'm just sad it's not counting down to this Friday with us. I'd make them smaller so you can see both.

Have a safe drive down. There's a small tropical disturbance off the Gulf coast of Florida that has been causing some big thunderstorms each afternoon this week. But the Atlantic side looks clear and I hope it stays that way!

Having a great time onboard. Weather has been perfect, one day it poured and was windy then it was beautiful. It didn't seem to disturb anyones plans.
Can't wait to meet everyone.
If someone can bring me a updated copy of the FE list with the cabins, that would be great! Thanks!

Thanks for all the gifts. It was fun delivering and seeing everyone's door and fe's. My kids definitely enjoyed them, especially the Silly bands. They have been talking about since they got them. The aloe came right on time, because my mom got a little sunburned in Nassau. I got compliments on pirate scraf, people wanted to know where I got it. I'm ready for the next cruise. I just need to figure out where I'm going.
