The Color Swap will have sign-ups open on May 18th, at 9 am. They will stay open for a week, until May 24th.

Check-ins:
Confirm your groups and send me your contact info by - May 28th
Check in #1 by - June 15th
Check in #2 by - July 9th LAST CALL FOR ANGELS
Mail by - July 30th
Due by - August 6th
The due date is firm, because I will be leaving for five months shortly after this swap.

After sign-ups, please pm me your name, DIS name, mailing address, email address and phone number when you sign up (I will only use these in an emergency).

I will pm you with a reminder if you forget to check in. After 48 hours with no response I will request angels for your spots. If you are going on vacation or will be out of town, please check in early. Please do not sign up for more than you can handle. If you need an angel, please ask for one as soon as possible.

If you finish early, feel free to mail to me as soon as you are done. I have room to store the boxes.

Packaging Instructions:
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS THROUGH CAREFULLY. If you are unable to package and label as follows, I respectfully ask that you do not sign up for this swap. Items that are not packaged and labeled properly are an added burden to the hostess; it really slows down the sorting process and increases the chances of you not getting back the pieces you are entitled to.

Place each set of items in a Ziploc bag that is able to close. Label the bag with your DISname, name and group info:

ZeroToHero
Danica ________
Red A

Place the 4 individual bags inside a gallon size or larger bag. NO SMALLER. Although your items may fit in a quart size bag, the pieces you get back may not fit in a small bag. Label the outer bag also. The little paper slips that go in the bags are also fine. Thank you for taking the time to make sure your pieces meet these requirements. :)

Mailing Instructions:
You may send to me by any method you choose unless you are mailing after August 1st. Then, you must mail Priority with Delivery Confirmation. I will send back to you using flat rate boxes/envelopes. Please include enough postage in your package for return shipping. The rates are: Envelope or Small Box (9”x6”x2”) - $4.95, Medium/Standard box – $10.70, Large - $14.50. I recommend Delivery Confirmation for all packages, even before the August 1st date, but it is not required until after August 1st. If you want your items shipped to you with DC, please include another $.70, and a filled out slip. I will not mail the items back with delivery confirmation unless you include the $.70. And I am not responsible to for postal errors. To minimize on postal errors, please include a return address label -- either a USPS priority mail label that you have addressed, or the little ones you would put on envelope.

Do not include clik-it/ship-it postage. I will not be able to use it since it is only good on the day it was printed, and from the location it was printed.

Scrap Paper Group
One-of-a-kind element sets using bits of leftover paper, embellishments, ribbon, etc. Maximum of five sets per swapper, so we can more easily/randomly exchange among participants and not get any of our own sets back. Patterned and/or colored paper of any color are ok. The point of this group is to use up our scraps in fun and creative ways, so if you have enough to make 2+ groups with the same materials, that’s fine, but if you don’t, that’s fine too.

I like the elements. They are easier to make work with a greater variety of photos. Some of us are vertical photo challenged. :rolleyes1 Okay, maybe it is just me. LOL

The groups you have look good. I like the extra time since I would have to have mine finished and mailed before July 28th.

What about Pam's idea for using scraps and leftovers?

I figured the Patterned group worked for the scraps too - do you want me to change it to Patterned/Scrap group? That way, the cheaters can just use new sheets of paper (Jennifer, I'm talking about you! :rotfl:), and then people who want to use up scraps can as well.

I plan to sign up for the ABC pages, so I think just elements for me this time. I like the patterned paper groups. I liked the results of the specialty paper groups, but I found it expensive. I would try hard to resist.

May 18th is the day I am supposed to pick up DH. It has been a very looonnnngggg year. I'll need a sign up buddy.

I'm a cheater too  I'd be up for this - I love the colour swap, it makes pages come together so quickly but they look as good as if you'd spent days, no doubt because someone already has:thumbsup2

I love the extra time as I'll probably have to use surface mail the way things are looking:headache:

ETA - elements only - i love pages but I'm not disciplined enough to take only one or two photos most of the time. And I prefer one photomat if I'm using my stash, as otherwise I run out and can't get every element ot match but I could always splash out and BUY some stuff!!

DisneyBarlans
04-20-2010, 07:38 AM
I'm in for elements. The group choices you have look great! I'm doing the ABC swap too, so I'm not signing up for a lot-probably the color combo group and the boys & girls themed groups.

Ooooh - I haven't done the color swap here before, but I've seen some of the fabulous results - I'm in!!! The dates are good with me - I'll have lots more time after school is out to work on some things. I usually stick with elements (although I will need to challenge myself to do pages at some point). Looking forward to it!!

PS. AWM - I'm vertical-challenged as well. I hate it when there's a really nice frame that can't be turned sideways or the photo collage frames that mix vertical & horizontal openings. Then, I have to either hunt down a vertical pic or go take one purposely.

123SA

I'm the odd ball. I would say 70% of my photos are vertical. I have to force myself to take some the other way.

Variety Disney it is!

Rita - I think you can either tell or it can be a surprise what theme you're going for, but you have to use something that is obviously Disney.

Someone can't just stick a yellow and a pink piece of paper together and say it looks like Fantasyland. I'm sure this will not be an issue, and you ladies will all turn out amazing things - if there's one thing we all do well, it's Disney. :)

For people who were interested in specialty groups - do you have any preference on what lines you'd like to see? I'm not sure what's "hip" in the scrapbooking world - I'm more of a "I know what I like" person.

Last year was Basic Grey, we could do that again if we wanted, but we could incorporate others as well...

Oo, I did, I'm sorry. I updated the first post and then forgot to mention that.

1 mat, 1 box, 1 element. :)

Feel free, as your second element, to do another mat and then make a little matching embellishment or mini element (think mini-file folder, mini tag, a shape or two, etc. - embellished once) to go with it.

Question on the Disney theme group...is it supposed to be specific to a character or park or just general or either???

ZeroToHero

It's just general Disney - you can do anything you want, as long as it is in some way related to Disney. :)

Ok...thanks! So, you would prefer that everything is recognizably Disney, but still generic that can be used for basically anything...right? Like, no Mickey or no Cinderella (just examples off the top of my head).

Hmmm... actually, I don't know. What would people like? I wouldn't mind if they were themed like Mickey or Cinderella, but I don't know. Ann - you said you had paper you could use if it was generic Disney, but not Mickey colors Disney - what were you thinking? And what do other people think?

I'm writing my last paper at this very moment, and once that's done, I swear I'm going to sit down and hash out the last few details of this swap.

I know earlier in the thread it was discussed that it could be a surprise what you were doing...

So, would it be better to do more than one Disney group...General (generic), Character, Park, etc. At least then everyone has some idea of what they are getting and doing. I know I can use pretty much anything that I would get...characters, parks, general, restaurants, etc. And, if I can't use it right now, eventually I will!! :thumbsup2 But, I don't know if everyone feels the same way? Anyway, I was just working on some swap items and it's late and I'm delerious!!! LOL Just thinking out loud on here. I'm sure you'll get it all figured out and it'll be awesome!!

My post was in direct reference to my Pooh paper that I have that I wanted to use. I also have red and white mickey head paper but it doesn't scream Mickey Mouse.

I have a lot of paper that is Disney feeling without having a picture of Mickey himself. Princess paper comes to mind too.

My thoughts on this group: Any disney themed paper is okay - -the paper with the Mickey Icons, the papers that are red, black and yellow with stars and swirls that you often see in the big Disney paper packs, the magic line by Reminisce, the pricess-y lines by Sandy Lion, Pooh paper, Mickey paper, the paper with the Fab Five etc etc.

Just a reminder - the Color Swap opens tomorrow at 9 am!!!!

PinballFamily
05-17-2010, 09:21 PM
Just a reminder - there is also a "scrap paper" group in this swap. Not sure what Danica is calling this...

Swappers who want to participate in this can make one or more single-page layouts and will get the same number of pages back - done by different swappers. This is a good chance to use up good quality paper scraps, leftover embellishments, etc., as each page can/should be different. The completed pages can use patterned paper and/or solid color paper, and just all need to be done to the same high quality so that you can be sure you'll get quality back!

Haven't tried anything like this before, so we'll have to see how it will work out, but might be lots of fun to do! So, look through your scrap stash and see how many scrap paper pages you might be able to create... Just to keep things manageable (for this first time out) and to *make sure* that no one gets any of their own pages back, we should probably limit scrappers to no more than five pages for this scrap paper group. What do you all think?

yes, I realize that signups are not up yet but as I go off to bed to dream of my fave swap I have a question on Pam's section.

I hadnt heard much about that part so am not sure, but if that is the case, I have soooo many scraps left over from the baby books Im making, 2 cuz we're having twins, that I would take at least 2 sections.
OK, Im rambling! Say goodnight Gracie!

Rita, you are brilliant! :thumbsup2 Thank you. :thumbsup2 Sorry...forgot that this swap was changed to elements (not pages) for lots of reasons, including postage, interest, etc. So, we can still do the "scrap paper" component, but just do elements instead of full pages. This section will still be limited to a maximum of five sets per person so we can swap easily among participants and each set will probably be one-of-a-kind (fun!). So, ladies, paw through those scrap bags, boxes, and stashes to find some great bits for this first-time project!

Here's the description for the Scrap Paper Group:

**********

Scrap Paper Group
One-of-a-kind element sets using bits of leftover paper, embellishments, ribbon, etc. Maximum of five sets per swapper, so we can more easily/randomly exchange among participants and not get any of our own sets back. Patterned and/or colored paper of any color are ok. The point of this group is to use up our scraps in fun and creative ways, so if you have enough to make 2+ groups with the same materials, that’s fine, but if you don’t, that’s fine too.

***********

This should be fun! It will be interesting to see the eclectic things people come up with...! Since it is the first time we're trying this group, feel free to ask questions if things aren't clear.

SCrap groups - -I want to make sure this is correct. If I sign up for one group, I make 4 sets of one mat, one box +1 element. Each set can be different. I use whatever I have lying around.

If I sign up for 3 groups, then I am making 12 sets?

Last - -is this any paper? Including Halloween paper, Disney paper, soccer paper, random prints etc?

Good questions, Susan!

Actually, for this Scrap Paper group, all you have to make are five sets (mat, box, element). Each set can/will be different, depending upon what scraps you're using up. Since we're not sure how many of us are playing in this new group (!), we've thought of limiting it to five sets, that way, the completed sets can be easily shuffled among swappers and no one will have to get any of their own stuff back. If you REALLY want to do more, (and don't mind *maybe* getting one or two of your own sets back, depending upon the number of participants), go for it! Use up those scraps, sistah!!! Just tell Danica how many sets you'd like to do.

On the paper choices, I'd suggest using patterns that most of us will be able to use. Any florals, stripes, geometric shapes, textures, solids, etc. are just fine. Holidays and sports-themed papers are slightly trickier as not everyone might be able to use those...so use your discretion here. But, I'm sure anyone/everyone here would be happy to receive something made with Disney paper scraps!

Did this help at all? So glad you want to play!

Glad we got it straightened out for you! Feel free to ask any other questions, since we're kind of making this new swap group up as we go along!

Since we have a lot of players in this group already - and room for as many more want to join in - if someone wants to do more than five scrap paper sets, that's just fine. Use up those scraps!!!

What I'm thinking of doing when it is time to swap the sets back out in August is...

Putting all the submissions for this scrap paper group into a big box.

Then something like:
"Ok, Arizona Rita sent five sets, so she gets five sets back - randomly take one, two, three, four, five sets out of the box for her." If any are ones she sent in, they go back into the box and I'll pull another. This way, it should work out just fine, no one gets back any they sent in, (but they might get more than one set done by another swapper and none from others), and it will be a fun, big surprise about what each of us gets back.

Does this sound ok?

Can I just check whether we can use patterned paper and/or contrasting embellishments? For example, can I use a green and yellow paper on my bright green, or if my green flowers don't "go" with the cardstock I could use yellow or blue?

Just planning ahead;)

ETA oh go on, I'll take the last boy space - orange, brown and green.

Patterned paper is fine, and yep, a few contrasting embellishments is okay too, if you think it "goes" better than a shade of your color. As long as you can look at it and go "Oh, that's definitely the green group," then we're good!

Oh, and I've got you down for the last boy group, thanks Mazda!

Alright, so right now, there are 5 groups that are filled that I could open second groups for.

Red
Green
Purple
Boys
Girls

If there is any more interest in these groups, or someone didn't get a chance to sign up for the first one, and wants to, let me know, and I can open another group. Otherwise, I'm going to focus on the groups that aren't filled yet.

By the way, 123SA and AWM, my mom said she'd take the R2 for Disney, so R3 is open and you guys are in it. :)

Unfortunately, one of our swappers has had to drop out, so there are a few more open spaces now.

Also, I had a question in regards to the specialty groups. Since it seems like there is only one person interested in each one, do we want to get rid of them completely? Or would you want to pick one group to be in that everyone likes so we could have 3 or 4 people in it? I'm fine either way, I have paper and ideas for every group.

ETA: PirateTink, I moved you into the first group for blue, so you're not in B1 anymore.

Ooo... hmmm. I'll defer to my mom for a final answer, since she had the idea for it... but if you want my opinion:

I say yes, but I'd mix and match between the scraps you have left over (and maybe bring in a few other pieces, just to change it up a bit). So say you have your papers from blue and orange, mix them together to create something totally different and cool! Don't worry about it matching one particular color scheme, as long as it's versatile!

I can fill in anywhere except for the specialty groups and the pastel group.

Would you be okay with doing brown, yellow, and brights? I can take orange and my mom could do the black color combo. Unless you'd like one of those more than brights.

Whatever you can do helps me out a lot! But I still want you to like what you get...

Just so you know everyone - the swap will close tomorrow at 9 pm! So if anyone else wants to jump in before I close the rest of the groups out, give a shout.

Thank you again to everyone who has signed up - I appreciate it so much! :grouphug:

Okay!

So - here's what's going on - my mother just bought obscene amounts of Lemonade at a yard sale, so she joined the Lemonade group.... so now.. what's going to happen:

Everyone makes 4 sets of their group. This means that Mazda & my mom will make 4 sets of Lemonade, Love3 makes 4 sets of Nook & Pantry, and I make 4 sets of each. Then we all trade, so everyone will end up with 3 of Lemonade and 2 of Nook & Pantry - so you guys get more back than you make! :woohoo:

Does this sound good?

Also, if your name is not in green, please send me your contact info. I wasn't sure if I had everyone's current address, so anyone I wasn't totally sure about is still in black.

R1 and R2 Disney groups~
I just realized that I made a major ****oo!
I made titles to go with the mats and jbs, including the actual words.
They say "Oh Boy!" and "Celebrate".
Would you like me to redo them or would it be ok to send them?
Is this a hostess decision or a group decision?
Please just let me know.
Thanks!

I'm in R1 and fine with that...I talked to Danica about doing a piecing for a specific character and she said that was fine. So, that's my two cents!! LOL I guess it will depend on Danica and everyone else's opinion.

:scared1: I forgot too! I designed but didn't cut, a "DISNEY WORLD" border in CDS. I will save it for something else since I didn't cut it yet.

Rita - I'm sorry, but you're going to have to redo them.

JUST KIDDING!

I think that's totally fine! And they're generic enough that you can use them as big embellishments, even if you didn't use them as titles.

I say it's a group decision, and it looks like everyone's okay with it! I know I can use anything Disney pretty much, so I'm good with them! :thumbsup2

Good! You deserve it! Nice way to finish off the school year.

Would it be ok if I mailed tomorrow or would you prefer that I wait until after next Tuesday?
Here's why I'm done~ I'm bored!!:rolleyes1
I had a babyshower for my neice last week so the house is cleaned, including wiping down cabinets. I dont really want to clean again until next week because then that will be right before we go. Im not one of those packers that keeps going over and over everything again, give me clean undies, jeans and a sweatshirt or two and lets go have an adventure!
13 days!!! I feel like Maks on Dancing With The Stars and his little temper tantrum, stamping his feet!
So the only thing keeping me sane is scrapping!
OK, thanks for letting me vent! I know, life is hard:rolleyes1

As for myself - I got a lot less done while I was recovering than I thought, but I did do a lot of shopping... so I have the supplies for everything, and I've already starting planning out groups.

I'm saving this for last, because I want to get everyone else's swaps done first so I can dedicate myself wholly to my own.

That's okay - thank you for checking in. Work kind of consumed me these past few days, so I have not been as on top of this as I should be.

I'm playing host to a rather unusual tourist - Pups the Traveling Labrador. He's a stuffed animal, and I'm showing him around Boston before we send him back to his "mom." He came to us after visiting China - he's been all over the world. I'm touring him around Boston for my company.

Maybe I should take him on a Disney Cruise!!!! That would be fun - but... I doubt BHC would pay for it.

I hope you have a great time on your vacation!

I have taken items like that and wrapped them in plastic wrap and then taped them to the outside of each bag. It keeps everything together and safe. Your other choice would be to use 2 gallon bags but then it might make it harder for shipping back to others.

Thanks Rebecca! And yes, the plastic wrap/sleeve idea is perfect - as long as the piece are protected and can stay together, I'd much rather save space with plastic wrap instead of a two gallon bag for each group.

I've specially kept my number of groups limited so they can come back in the cardboard envelopey thing rather than a box - if it helps to get them in you can put everything into one bag and just tuck the spare bags in round the edge (AWM found that worked well :thumbsup2)
