Hello all!

Well we're here and settled in and I am uploading photos as I type. I started typing up the review after dinner in the airport so that'll be first. Then I do have today's.

So on with the show!

For those who want to hear who we are and see our lineup, you can check out the pre-trip dining report at:

**done last night in the airport**

So here we sit in the Minneapolis/St Paul airport, affectionately known throughout travel sites as MSP. (Or Missup, if you like to pronounce your acronyms.) Our vacation has begun and we are all really stinking excited! We found a lovely little corner here at our gate where there is an outlet, so I am typing up my live report (although not posting…we’ll only be here 40 more minutes and it’s $10 to log on) while DS has his DSi plugged in to charge while he plays and DH waits patiently. But that’s not the kind of update this report is about…so let’s get to the FOOD…!

We finally left for home 90 minutes late and were all starving. We stopped at our traditional dinner favorite, McDonalds. DS had a kids happy meal with chicken nuggets, fries and juice and a dragon toy (I am assuming you are all familiar with what these look like). DH and I had some regular old cheeseburgers and shared some of the saltiest French fries ever. GACK.

***important thing to know about me: a measuring stick of how salty I feel food is. I love salt. If all the oceans became freshwater I think I would die. I love salt so much I put it on everything (exception: cereal and….well…cereal). So when I say “too salty” you KNOW it was bad***

I made it through 1/3 of the container but DH couldn’t eat more than 2 fries (told you I love salt). He had a diet Dew (he misses this desperately when in WDW) and I had my favorite Coke Zero. In the end, we were full.

Once we got to the airport, we stopped at Chili’s Too for a snack. We weren’t really hungry, but we were earlier than we thought so we stopped off to kill some time and have a nice sit down. DS enjoyed a VERY sweet cherry coke, fries and a corn dog. DH had a regular coke and I had about 4 glasses of water (no kidding). DH and I split a steak fajita quesadilla.

I felt a little stupid taking photos in front of every single other table filled with business travelers. It was about 30 minutes in before a family walked in. But for the purposes of journaling all our dining experiences, I persevered and here you go:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4162652.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4162650.jpg

The corn dog I am sure was fine ($4.49 with drink) and the quesadilla was marginal. It was mainly cheese, fajita cut steak, some carmelized onions and some half carmelized onions. Served with sour cream, guac, and pico de gallo. I had a coupon I forgot to use (doh!!!), and once we wandered down towards the gate we saw WPE and sighed. Maybe this week though…

I am now signing off to go shop for sodas for the flight and maybe a snack for a few hours in.

We're headed off to breakfast and the beginning of what will be a verrry long day (MK open until 3:00am!!!! Not that we'll be there that late, regardless of what DS thinks/wants :rotfl:) DH is going to resize my photos so they upload faster ( I remember him doing this last May) and I'll post all of yesterday and half of today when we come back for a swim break.

Weather is GORGEOUS! Just a little humid, very low 80's...feels like June at home.

Today we're taking the big camera and hope to have lots of gorgeous food shots for you all. And tomorrow we move to AKV-Kidani and high speed internet so FASTER uploads!! :woohoo:

Welcome everyone!!!

Remember what I was saying about the lovely weather? Yeah, we have blinds in our room. Not so much :rotfl:

Today is rainy and drizzly and then just gloomy, but the temps are low to mid 70's and nothing is stopping us! We spent the morning at DHS and then had some lunch and are back for a while to veg in the hottub and get my reviews done before setting out for the evening. So let's get the show started!

(Written last night)

So we got in last night and finally settled in the hotel at 2:00AM EST. Had to wind down and finally got to sleep. So this morning we slept in a bit, unpacked and explored the resort . By the time we left, we were starving so we set the GPS to Bubbalou’s Bodacious BBQ and head out for some food!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172666Medium.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172670Medium.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172667Medium.jpg

DS and I found a great seat out in the covered outdoor area while DH ordered a big sampling of food. We ended up with a two meat platter of chicken and ribs, a brisket plate, deep fried pickles and ranch and a slice of sweet potato pie.

So what did we think? We like the brisket. It’s very smoky and good, but I still like DH’s better. The fries are my favorite kind – the crinkle cut – and I still like the baked beans. They are very sweet and tasty and I usually hate baked beans. The butter toast is a good combo with the meat and the different BBQ sauces. DS ate 3 ½ of the 4 slices we got.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172678Medium.jpg

The ribs were very good – slid right off the bones. The portion had one small, one medium and one very large rib. The chicken was a leg quarter and was my favorite – the skin was almost crispy which you can’t get by just smoking it.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172681Medium.jpg

Both meals came with coleslaw, which was pretty good.

The deep fried pickles. Oh….wow. Yes, greasy-ish, but very crispy, light tasting and perfect with the ranch. We love deep fried dill pickles at home and I would go back to BBBBQ solely for these.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172684Medium.jpg

The sweet potato pie? We have never had this and have always wanted to try. We all LOVE pumpkin and this…was…not pumpkin. Very cinnamony taste, which I loved. But the consistency was like paste. Pumpkin has a looser custard texture but this was like solid peanut butter? We have absolutely no idea if this is normal for sweet potato pie or just the BBBBQ take on it. Can anyone help me here?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172682Medium.jpg

To drink – DH and DS had a ginormous coke and I had an ice water.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172672Medium.jpg

It was a fun first meal, we enjoyed it a lot and feel all set for WDW!

Later in the afternoon, we stopped at the character outlet to see what was there (some great deals!) and the Coach outlet for me to drool (gorgeous spring and summer colors!). DH decided we couldn’t be that close to a Mrs. Fields without stopping in. We bought the “buy 3, get 1 free” and brought them back to the room.

DS: sprinkle cookie (liked very much)
DH: milk chocolate macadamia nut (loves)
Me: toffee (meh
Share: snickerdoodle (okay)

This was a nice snack to have before swimming this afternoon.l

Romano’s Macaroni Grill

We usually love this place and last year I had the Best Pick Your Own Pasta Ever. This year the choices were a LOT narrower. DH and I ended up ordering almost the same thing – penne/spaghetti with Bolognese/arrabiata, roasted garlic, meatballs, sausage and (me) sundried tomatoes.

First we started with the olive oil, their rosemary bread and a dish of marinated olives and roasted peppers (bread and oil come with meal, olives were $3.99)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172725Medium.jpg

This was AWESOME!! I love olives and added them to the bread with the peppers. I also added some to my side Caesar salad later and they were amazing. There had to be at least 4 different kinds.

DH and I both got a side Caesar and they were both very good – DS tried one for the first time and didn’t care for the dressing. There is a bit stronger anchovy taste than other dressings and I think this was his problem.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172729Medium.jpg

For the entrée, DS chose the spaghetti and meatball. He grabbed my camera and snapped this photo as quick as he could “so I can start eating already mom!” He loved it and ate about 1 ½ meatballs from DH and from me too.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172731Medium.jpg

DH and I knew we over ordered but the plan was to take leftovers back to the room to microwave later if we wanted. Yeah…didn’t happen.

Mine (sortof)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172735Medium.jpg

DH’s (sortof)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172733Medium.jpg

DH ended up with my Bolognese sauce and I got his arrabiata. We figured this out when his wasn’t spicy and mine was. So we traded. In both dishes the roasted garlic was burnt in places and the sausage was almost burnt as well. It was definitely overcooked. Had it been in a bowl with a side of some nice horseradish mustard it would have been delicious, but in a pasta sauce it was just overcooked.

The meatballs were awesome as always and so we just ate what we liked and let it go at that. Plenty was leftover but we didn’t take any back “home”.

Will we go back? Definitely! Will we order something different? Probably. The pastas were pretty heavy.

We spent the rest of the night at DTD and were going to get a Ghirardelli, but the whole DTD was packed so we decided to get a dessert/treat back at the resort. DS opted for a green buttercream cupcake, which he loved. I tasted the frosting and it was a nice buttercream and didn’t taste like Crisco (bonus!).

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172744.jpg

DH and I? Well…isn’t it the law to get these at least once?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/P4172746.jpg

We had to work around the escaping pockets of steam, but these were really good. Chewy and sweet and hot and a nice occasional treat but definitely not a frequent thing. And we did really well with the powdered sugar. Sure, the shirts we had on are headed for the laundry but it was worth it.

All in all, it was a day filled with a LOT of really good food. One more day tomorrow with no DDP and then the food fest really gets started.

If you have any questions, let me know!

This morning we hit DHS and had breakfast at Starring Rolls. I am sad to admit that we left the memory card for the camera back in the room so I was limited to the space on the camera (like 10 photos). Unfortunately we don't have the cable to get them on the computer so I'll add them when we get home.

What did we have?

DS had a large chocolate chip cookie, chocolate milk and an orange. Yes - I let him have a cookie. Sigh. But he did have fruit (justifying.....:rolleyes1). He was very happy with his breakfast.

DH and I split a strawberry parfait - strawberries in sauce, vanilla pudding/custard and whipped cream. It was pretty good. Then we also shared a cinnamon roll. WOW! Very soft and delicious - I usually steal the centers but DH preempted me and cut it in half (snot). However, the WHOLE thing was soft and gooey, so it was like one huge cinnamon roll middle (it was the fill size of those dessert plates) that it didn't matter.

I also had a ridiculously expensiveand very tiny mocha, but it was actually very, very good so I was okay with it.

Photos to come when we get home...

Oh! And DS and I saw the infamous Butterfinger cupcake. O. M. G. I knew it was big but in real life??? Holy buckets!!! It has to be like 6-7 inches tall! He asked for it so I was actually pretty lucky he ended up with a huge cookie instead of a cup of frosting...

Naturally we shall be returning for either that or a marble one once we have a bazillion snack credits. A cupcake for $4? Yeah, this one I can understand!

After a morning and early afternoon at DHS, we left and went to Sweet Tomatoes at the Crossroads for lunch. A new favorite of mine from last May!

We started with salads: asiago caesar salad, spinach salad, a teriyaki pasta salad, potato salad, and I made my own with romaine, feta (YUM!), chick peas, jicama, cucumbers, peas, and garlic dressing.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0059Medium.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0060Medium.jpg

DS made his own veggie salad:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0058Medium.jpg

DH also started with chili:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0063Medium.jpg

I had some of this later with cheese and it was really good.

I started with cream of broccoli which was ick:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0066Medium.jpg

We also tried the chicken noodle:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0069Medium.jpg

We all had strawberry lemonade for drinks - this is AMAZING!!!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0061Medium.jpg

Each of us had a baked potato - DH and I had the works and DS had one with just butter:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0070Medium.jpg

DH had some pizza sticks:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0068Medium.jpg

I also had a small plate of mac and cheese - so good!

For dessert, I had some sugar free lemon mousse and a lemon mini muffin - neither of them were very good - the muffin was underdone and the mousse tasted like artifical sweetener. I don't mind sf stuff unless it tastes fakish.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/DSC_0072Medium.jpg

All in all, we like this restaurant very much - tons of options, you can have a little of this and a little of that and the service is very good. It's bright and open and just a pleasure to visit.

So of course now it's pouring and the boys are back from the hot tub to relax and put a movie on for a while. It will be a VERY late night and thunderstorms make great partners for relaxing in the afternoon.

Tonight sounds like a crabby evening for us - as in Joe's Crab Shack, DH's favorite. And then hopefully a very special MK treat later.

And tomorrow? The begining of DDX dining. God help us...:rotfl:

DS and I had a mommy and me trip in January to celebrate his 5th birthday. I can do any ride, anywhere with one exception. The teacups. DH does the teacups, Mommy pretends to take one for the team by sitting it out in order to get great photos of everyone enjoying themselves on the teacups. Problem is, DS loves the teacups, and in a weak moment, I thought "He's only 5. How fast can he possibly make those things go?" Famous last words.

It was relatively early in the morning, and by closing one eye, I could see three benches just ahead of us as we exited the ride. I aimed for the middle one, thinking that was the one most likely to be the real one. Turns out, it was next to an ice cream cart that was open. DS sat munching his Mickey bar as I sat huddled over, hoping the world would stop spinning. DH gave me heck when he found out what DS had just had for breakfast, but as I explained in my defense, I'd probably have let the kid shoot kamikazees at that moment if it meant he'd be still while I recovered :lmao:

OP, really enjoying this thread, sounds like you guys are having a wonderful time!

Hi everyone! I have a lot of photos to upload tonight but we have about 10 minutes before we have to leave for dinner so I decided to stop in. Busy day - we moved from POFQ to AKV-Kidani and are very happily settled in.

POFQ is truly a gorgeous resort with so much detail - and we had the BEST location! Building 5, second floor, corner room. We could step around the corner and see Sassagoula Float and Floodworks, the hot tub, etc. Walk, skip and jump to everything.

Not so here, but we don't care :rotfl:

AKV-K feels more like home and we are excited to spend our time here. Plus we now have that DVC DLX on our room keys and we broke them in for lunch today.

So to come:

Dinner last night at Joe's Crab Shack
Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party
Yak and Yeti lunch today

And dinner and whatever else we snack on tonight!

One very sad moment for me today - we got our refillable mugs and I was pleased to see that Johari Treasures has light pomegranate lemonade. Unfortunately, it has replaced my addiction: Coke Zero.

:sad2::sad1::sad2:

We haven't hit Super-T yet so we have a few things to pick up...among them will be a case of my beloved.

Back later with photos!!!

I'm downloading photos as I type and it's taking longer than I thought. I have two different cameras here so I have two different downloads to process.

It was a very late night last night so I'm going to get my photos uploaded and then get the reviews up tomorrow so I can curl up, watch POC - Black Pearl with my boys (DS has an appt at the Pirate's League tomorrow so we're getting him in the mood) and get some sleep.

Dinner tonight was at The Wave and was, quite possibly, the best meal we've had in a LONG time!!! Lots of photos coming tomorrow morning.

We had reservations for the Wishes Dessert Party and decided to have dinner at Joe's. It was rainy and stormy and we weren't really in the mood to be out and about, but we're at WDW for crying out loud, so out we went.

Last May Joe's was awesome - we had a great experience sitting outside while DS played on the playground, the weather was gorgeous and the food was great. This night was obviously not a patio kind of night, but the food wasn't as good as we remember either.

DS went with a cherry coke and the child's pizza with fries on the side. Also featured is the elusive Orange Puffle that I lucked into finding at DHS earlier in the day (at the Camera shop, of all places).

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2336.jpg

He enjoyed this, ate all of it and went back to playing with his menu

DH and I were going to share a crab steampot so I offered to share my entree as well. I hate cracking crab - I love the taste of the meat, but the cracking gives me the heebie jeebies, so DH has to do it. If we both ordered steampots, dinner would last hours so we share. I had wanted the shrimp alfredo and was going to ask for it cajun (love that at Red Lobster!) but he doesn't really like that so I asked him to pick between coconut shrimp and popcorn shrimp. He picked popcorn. And ate maybe 3 of them.

Sigh. Should have gone with the alfredo.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2337.jpg

They were very good, just not what I was in the mood for. It came with a teeny tiny cup of cocktail sauce and some mediocre coleslaw. I asked for more cocktail sauce and the server brought me two completely filled containers the size of the coleslaw. :rotfl: I do like sauce but this was a little more than I needed. All in all, wish I got something else, but it was okay.

DH got the combination steampot with the garlic seasoning. It comes with snow, Alaskan king and dungeness. He doesn't really care for Dungeness, so he got extra snow.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2338.jpg

It was all very tasty (I did enjoy some) but despite how big the pot was, there wasn't a lot of meat in it. DH liked it too, but in the end it just wasn't the experience we had last time.

Lastly, DS wanted to get the Create a Crab dessert and we let him (yes, two hours before the dessert party...:rolleyes1) This was a crab shaped rice krispie bar with whipped cream, M&M eyes and three sauces - strawberry, chocolate and caramel. He had fun with it and did eat almost all of it.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2339.jpg

Very cute - $1.99

Our server seemed to think we were in no hurry (take your time, I'm here all night, no rush on this, etc) and the T-shirts they wear are very awkward to explain to an 8 year old (not exactly family friendly - lots of entendres) but it was still a nice evening.

And we still had getting sugared up at the MK!

Wishes Dessert Party

We did this for MNSSHP last October and it was very nice - I like most of the desserts and love the drinks and LOVE having a seat to wait and a great view of the fireworks. This night was perfect with the cool temps and the coverage from the rain. I don't believe there were any special desserts with any themes, but I took a few photos before my camera battery died. (Yes, the cable I needed had been in the car all day so we couldn't charge it. Argh).

The table from the vantage point of the waiting line:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2347.jpg

A first plate - tiramisu, chocolate cheesecake, vanilla cheesecake, banana tart, truffle:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2348.jpg

A second plate - watermelon, truffle, pistachio creme brule, brownie, mango shooter, cannoli, white chocolate truffle, choc strawberry:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2349.jpg

DH has a plate full of watermelon, plain and chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate chip cookies, brownie and "some cupcakes that were gross"

I wasn't crazy about the brownies, but everything else I tried was very good. Second plates had fruit tart, another creme brule and more fruit. We drank raspberry lemonade and water.

Would we do this again? Probably. My dad and his wife are planning a trip to WDW in December and we've already decided we're booking this for them (if they have it) along with Behind the Seeds. The view is SO worth it!!

And now we being with the DDX portion of our trip. So far, I say WOW.

Just WOW.

We switched to Kidani yesterday, got our cards and headed over to DAK. We were able to do Everest and then had lunch at Yak and Yeti which was completely new to us.

I took a photo of the menu at the Y&Y CS:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/104.jpg

And Y&Y restaurant:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/103.jpg

We were seated downstairs and started with cherry coke (DS), coke (DH) and diet coke with lime (me). Our server was very nice and attentive and explained the plan for us. DS opted for the chicken bites (chicken nuggets) and chose carrots and applesauce as his sides. This was very CS type looking to me, but he liked it

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/114.jpg

DH loves chicken wings, so this was his starter:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/115.jpg

These were very interesting and good - like a sweet and sour chicken breaded nugget, but on a wing bone.

I was in the mood for the pork eggrolls:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/116.jpg

I really liked these and so did DH - the wrapper was a little thicker than I'm used to and a little doughier (???) but crispy. The sauce was sweet with chilies in it and the filling was really good. We shared, but left a lot of the third one with regret, knowing we had entrees coming.

DH ordered the ribs, as he loves BBQ of all kinds. He felt they were good - well cooked and just fine, but he's more of a Texas or Kansas City BBQ guy, not so much Asian. I liked the rice once I added soy sauce and the veggies were cold and served with a cold vinaigrette (as opposed to stir fried, which I expected). They were crunchy and well flavored and most of all: I ate elusive VEGETABLES at a WDW restaurant!!! :scared1:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/119.jpg

This day, I won the entree envy contest hands down. I was in the mood for the mandarin chicken salad, but DH and I both agreed it sounded like something I could get at Panera at home. So even though I wasn't in the mood, I ordered the Kobe burger. You can choose to have it served with asian slaw or some sort of fungus (gick) topping.

I opted for slaw.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/120.jpg

First of all, this was TEN ounces. Huge! The fries are DH's favorites so he had most of them while I ate some of his rice and veggies. The aioli was both on the bread and on the side. I love sauce, but I didn't really add more. I also took off some of the slaw (lots on it).

So what did I think?

The bread was super soft and fresh and the aioli and slaw were superfluous. The meat was perfectly salted, perfectly medium rare and the best hamburger meat I have had in my entire life, ever. If I didn't know it was Kobe, I would have thought it was ground tenderloin. It was divine!!!!!!!!!!! I had to wrap my half in a napkin "diaper" to soak up all the juice (let's call it juice okay? I like "juice" and "marbling" better than "fat"). DH ate the other half and agreed with me. Delicious!! We decided that a thick slice of American cheese, some bacon, and regular mayo would make this illegally good.

DS wasn't hungry anymore so he got the chocolate pudding to go. She put it in a to go cup for him - it was basic pudding covered with marshmallows, not the snack pack type I was expecting after his lunch. We took it with us, but opted to dump it, since we had a lot more DAK to cover.

DS love love loves sorbet so he went with the sorbet sampler. We liked the lemon and mango, the other not so much. DS ended up eating most of the lemon.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/125.jpg

I had to try the wontons - they intrigue me very much. I ate very little of this, but what I had I really liked. Very unique!!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/128.jpg

All in all, I was expecting to like this a bit but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I booked it for the atmosphere and to try something new and I'm glad I did!

The Wave

We ate here last May and the boys loved it - I thought it was very good, but was not as impressed. I booked it this trip for them. We ventured out into the pouring rain (the day had been gorgeous, the night became rainy again) and got to the Contemporary on time. I took a look at the menu and just wasn't in the mood for anything. If the parking hadn't taken so long, I would have tried to talk DH and DS into trying something else.

We waited for our table and I told DH - "I'm so not in the mood for any of the entrees. You know what that means? Either tonight will be a total bust, or the best meal of the trip."

Wow. Best meal of trip so far!!!!

We started with drinks - I just wanted water so I ordered the large vanilla milkshake for DS, who loved them. The picture is whited out - so imagine a white shake with a mound of white whipped cream.

DH wanted the cheese pizza and our server (who was outstanding) let him pick anything else with it. He went with carrots and celery (and ranch).

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2358.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2365.jpg

We were also served some multi grain bread with butter and Hawaiian sea salt:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2353.jpg

DH picked the black bean chili with pork tenderloin and a jalapeno corn muffin. He absolutely loved it and I tasted it - it was very, very good. Hearty and a little spicy and a larger bowl with the bread would make a great cold night meal.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2356.jpg

I picked the citrus avocado salad. I love light vinaigrettes and I absolutely love avocado so this was right up my alley. I will definitely be trying to make something like this at home!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2354.jpg

DH and I both opted for the same entree, with the same substitute...

Filet mignon, potato and onion au gratin and spinach salad substituted for summer ratatouille.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2359.jpg

This was just absolutely wonderful. The salad was excellent, the au gratin was creamy and flavorful and not greasy and the filet was a perfect medium rare. We used our table knives to cut them and they were tender, delicious and obviously very quality beef. DS shared with me and was equally pleased.

SUCH a great meal!!!

For dessert, DH ordered (surprise!) sorbets:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2367.jpg

These were very refreshing and good.

I ordered the creamy indulgence:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/orangecamerafinal2366.jpg

From left - raspberry cheesecake (dryish - okay), something passion fruit (EWWW!!!) and something chocolate with a fruit taste (okay). I left most of my dessert, but I didn't care because everything else was so very, very good.

Would we go back? Oh HECK yeah!

Tonight is a buffet, so not sure how many photos. I'll catch the report up soon!

Good morning! Just getting ready to get out for brunch and our day, but wanted to post yesterday.

We only had ADR's for dinner so we decided to use snacks and supplement anything else OOP. We had used 3 snack credits at Johari Treasures Monday night on 3 Mickey bars to have in the freezer here so we had plenty left.

We started with 3 credits for breakfast with an OOP croissant sandwich - which DH and I love.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010006.jpg

The cinnamon roll was very good - I refrained from taking the entire middle and just had a nice small part. DH loved this.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010007.jpg

The croissant sandwich, as always, looked like it's not the greatest yet tastes amazing. I don't know why we love these but we do.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010008.jpg

The crumb cake was my choice - I scraped off some of the topping and it was perfect but way too big.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010009.jpg

And finally - DS's choice...the strawberry smoothie. Basically a strawberry milkshake with pieces of fruit in it. He loved this.

Later it was time for "lunch" - OOP

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010065.jpg

Then we had snack credit desserts...DS's choice:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010070.jpg

DH and I decided to get something at Sleepy Hollow. DH opted for the rootbeer float, which was awesome!:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010072.jpg

I had the cappuccino float - one of my favorites:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010074.jpg

And one of the Best DIS Tips Ever:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010075.jpg

A filtered ice water. This is so great to have!

Later we decided to share a hot dog and some cheesy fries (OOP):

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April202010096.jpg

And the lovely CM making them slipped a little snack to DS under the glass:

Cape May Cafe - dinner

I wasn't planning on taking photos, but I ended up doing it anyway. We normally just love this place but this time we weren't as impressed. The food was good and there were some different items on the buffet which were good. They used to have prime rib, which became sirloin, which is now flank, which is good but the marinade was different than we enjoy. All in all, we had switched around a few ADR's for this one and have it booked a second time coming up and will be switching it out for something else. In other words, we liked it a lot, but not twice in a trip a lot (which we have been known to do...)

So the photos!

Salads/soups - the cucumber, mozzazrella, basil, tomato is new, as are the marinated olives:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21023.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21032.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21022.jpg

Entrees:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21024.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21028.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21030.jpg

The steak, again, was okay. The mac and cheese was very good, the gray food is steak tips in a cream wine sauce (very good), the mashed potatoes has pesto in them, the chicken was huge, and DH thought the crab legs were comparable to Joe's. They must have refilled the crab at least 10 times while we were there (on our side of the buffet) so they were very, very freshly cooked.

Desserts:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21036.jpg

Can you tell we love the Oreo bon bons? The little dish has a new item - a tiny little hot lava cake that a chef serves you. VERY good. Here is a shot of it, once cut into:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21035.jpg

Yesterday was breakfast at Boma - there are a ton of photos online so I left the camera packed away. It was a very good meal - I especially love the omelets made to order. The DDX is a lot of food, so we ate what we wanted but didn't make it a brunch/huge meal. DS enjoyed our server very much - especially when he called his cereal milk "Giraffe milk" and came back to measure DS's neck. DS was about 85% sure he was kidding, but had that little bit of belief...:lmao:

Lunch was EOS, OOP.

DH ordered the club and enjoyed it very much:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21056.jpg

I ordered the Veggie (mmmm...feta!!) and it was perfect!! I think next time I'll get the salad though as the hot bread and cold veggies was a little odd to get used to:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21057.jpg

DS enjoyed a fruit cup:

DS's shot of his entire meal, hidden Mickey style:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21055.jpg

DH and I chose the ghirardelli brownies for dessert:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April21052.jpg

We had these in October and they are SO good!! They are also on the counter right now waiting for a snack moment.

DS enjoyed his cupcake for breakfast this morning after a yogurt from Target.

Love EOS and will be back there again this trip.

Samawati Springs Pool/Maji pool bar

We spent a good part of the late afternoon/early evening at the pool enjoying a few drinks and a snack.

Forgot to take a photo of the drinks...too busy drinking them...:rolleyes1

The club sandwich:

Which came with:

The sandwich was on very good multi grain bread with very fresh ingredients. Just meat and veggies, no cheese. If you're looking for a cold light meal, this was great!

Thank you for posting about Cape May. I am allergic to shellfish, so we can't cook it in our home, and we never go to seafood places. DH loves crab, and since I know wdw is great when it comes to food allergies, I booked a Cape May dinner. I know DH will eat his weight in crab, and dd3 and I will have tons to choose from. (I don't want her first time eating shellfish to me on vacation, shellfish allergies run in my family) I just want to be full, and with those Oreo Bon Bons, I think I will be!!

It is so very, very beautiful here. If you want to request a location, I really really recommend 2nd floor as close to the lobby as you can be. We had that last time and it was wonderful!! You're in walking distance to the library, laundry, arcade, kids club, lobby (refilling those mugs!) and animal viewing areas, and close to the walk to the pool. And they do something so you still feel isolated from noise. We're on 3rd floor a bit further away this time so not as much activity from being in the lobby. We are close to the parking garage elevator though :thumbsup2

Were you able to use a CS meal for this?

We didn't, but DH says yes we could have. Add a soda and an ice cream bar to what we got if you do use a credit.

Hmmmm....I believe they also had clams, mussels, fried calamari and mahi mahi on the buffet. Yes - fried calamari. And they were frying it right there at the buffet so it was very fresh and constant. So not freaky buffet fried squid, if you know what I mean.

And really - the crab was VERY good, they have the drawn butter and it was brought out constantly. And they have cute little metal buckets for the shells. We're not a huge seafood family and we always have so much to pick from here. I hope your family loves it!

Thank you much!

You can tell how much we love EOS and what a great bargain it is, as we have the DDX and paid OOP ($20 for two huge sandwiches, fruit cup, two brownies and a cupcake - DH bought the drinks separately) And starting today we have the DDP so we will definitely be back with the CS credits.

Jiko

We ate at Jiko several years ago and it was very, very good. DH loves the AKL but isn't a fan of the food so Jiko was a "humor Jenn" kind of thing. In the end, we all really enjoyed! Our server was from close to home, was very friendly and made it a great experience.

We started with bottles of evian and she left one on the table for refills.

DS ordered another cherry coke and received 14 cherries (he counted):

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21010.jpg

His starter was the fruit salad. He was not pleased with it when it came out, as he likes to eat each piece separately (it was too finely cut for him...sigh) but he managed and in the end was very happy with the watermelon, pineapple and canteloupe:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21011.jpg

DH had the popular BBQ chicken flatbread with apple and jicama and enjoyed it very much - although it looks very unappealing in the photo:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21012.jpg

And I had the kalamata goat cheese flatbread which could have been pretty much invented for me - salty olives, feta-esque cheese, chewy crust. YUM!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21013.jpg

We each brought half back and I can tell you from experience that the olive one is also great cold! :thumbsup2

For dinner - we are a boring family. DS? Filet, medium rare. DH? Filet, medium rare. Me? Same.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21015.jpg

DS was in heaven - he loves filet, strawberries are his favorite, he loves potatoes and he's a veggie nut. The only frustration he had was trying to scoop up the carrots and peas with a fork. DH and I figured he didn't get a spoon for them, as most kids probably ignore them (I know I would :rotfl:). He managed though.

Ours (took only one photo as they were identical)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21016.jpg

My apologies to anyone who doesn't like the look of rare meat - our server asked us to cut in to make sure they were okay. This was HUGE. At least another 2-3 ounces more than The Wave. They were just as excellent, but the wine sauce gave them a different flavor (The Wave was more salt/pepper/veal demi glace beef flavor so more "pure" according to DH). They were cooked just right and we all enjoyed them. I loved that DS has had the exact same quality that the adults have had, just smaller portions. I ended up giving 1/3 of mine to DH.

The mac and cheese was also good and we all enjoyed trying the flower petals. Surprisingly interestingly good!

For dessert, DH opted for the apple tart tatin. He said it was very good and I think I tried it. I know I had one of the caramelized nuts, which was wonderful.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21018.jpg

DS had the Jiko S'mores and was incredibly happy with his choice. He had considered skipping dessert but was intrigued.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21017.jpg

This was a homemade toasted marshmallow on a stick, graham cracker type soft cookies with chocolate and marshmallow in the middle and he thinks it's peanut butter ice cream, but says it might be granola/graham (because pb and graham are so alike :rotfl:) I didn't try, because the idea of peanut butter ice cream kindof makes me want to gag a little.....

I had the coffee ice cream and fresh cinnamon sugar doughnuts (pronounces "coke-sisters" according to our server and I had NO clue how to spell it and am too lazy this am to look it up on allears......)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april21019.jpg

I have no words for this.

Okay, I lied. I do. Oh. My. God.

Hot and fresh doughnuts, mixed with whipped cream and then strong coffee flavored cold ice cream....divine!!!

I would go back to Jiko JUST for the flatbread and dessert.

I was planning on uploading some more photos, but I left my camera in the car last night and DH has it right now (we move today so he's checking us in early so we can go about our day). We'll probably be homeless for a while (at the latest - 4:00 pm) so not sure when I can update. But here is the lineup from yesterday:

Breakfast in room:
yogurt, cereal boxes (from Target)
grapes (Mara)
zebra domes (Mara) (and yes, for breakfast. I'm not proud....)

Lunch:
Tutto Italia

Snacks in room/pool:
pretzels (Target) with hummus (Mara)
watermelon (Mara)

Dinner:
Citricos

We stopped at the Mara after dinner at Jiko and dropped a bunch of SC's on bowls of fruit (grapes, watermelon, apples and caramel), hummus and some domes. We have had plenty and decided not to get much fruit at Super T, but use them for something decent and healthy for once.

Today we have 3 meal credits each and 6 snacks total and we also get our BCV credits although those won't be touched until tomorrow.

Time to go stuff and shove whatever I can find in the suitcases (It's just going a few miles away to be unpacked again and most of it is clean laundry from yesterday so we'll skip the organization part) and start getting ready for the day. Hope you all have a wonderful Friday!!

They look delicious. :) Hope it doesn't heat up too much but at least you'll have a great place to swim when it does!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy the new resort which I know you will! Morning all!! We are now at the BCV's (got in our room yesterday at 9:30am!!) and getting ready to head out. We finished the Kidani DDX last night and are breaking out the BCV DDP today.

Did we like it? We did - we had 5 full morning to night days to use 4 nights of credits and it worked out great. We didn't overstuff, we tried new places, it was great.

That said...

I am discontinuing the live portion of the dining reviews :( . I have tons of photos and I just can't put together the time to organize, upload and review. We're having such a wonderful time so while I'll continue to take photos of everything, I won't be posting them until we get home.

The DDX didn't defeat US, but it sure did defeat my live report...:rotfl:

I will absolutely be checking in so if you have questions or want anything checked out, let me know...! I think today is a DHS day and then a down day (haven't had one yet) but I'm not sure.

But I have to say - I'm really looking forward to using some CS credits! Bring it on......

Cape May Cafe (yeah, we went back)
Yachtsman Steakhouse
Teppan Edo

Tutto Italia lunch

We had dinner here two years ago and really enjoyed it, so we thought it would be a fun place to lunch while on the deluxe plan. We were able to move our 1:30PM ADR back to 11:30.

The atmosphere was okay but there was a lack of friendliness from our host and server and the manager who had to come talk to me about my food allergy (bleu cheese). He was also pretty misinformed. He asked if it would be okay to just take the cheese off a premade plate or if I needed an entirely new one. And oh yeah, it was gorgonzola so I should be fine, right?

Sigh.

We all started with breads and a bowl of olives with pits:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010014.jpg

DS picked the fresh mozzarella sticks, which DH and I pretty much ate:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010018.jpg

It was nice for him to have different choices for a starter.

DH and I ordered the Italian sampler for two - the source of the bleu (according to server) / gorgonzola (according to manager) (both cheeses of which I am allergic to) problem. In the end, we opted for no, don't just take it off a plate. I also opted to never mention it again while at WDW and just order foods without bleu cheese, et al (it isn't a fatal allergy or anything that won't be reversed with antihistamines).

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010017.jpg

The red peppers were good, I loved the artichoke hearts, the fresh mozzarella was like solid milk - kinda boring. The salami meats were excellent, DH liked the mortadella which I skipped, the prosciuttio was salty but good, the beans and shrimp were okay and the tomatoes and zucchini were okay. Avoided the fungus. Ick.

In the end, we weren't thrilled but it was a nice sampler.

DS chose spaghetti and meatballs, which he liked a lot:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010022.jpg

So did DH:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010021.jpg

I very foolishly ordered the lasagna. I wasn't that hungry, but I had read how good it was and decided to order. Stupid choice - I know how rich bechamel is and I read the menu but WOW. This was HUGE and very, very rich:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010023.jpg

Please don't get me wrong - it was very good, but way too big and rich for lunch. I ate about 1/4 of it and gave up.

Max opted against dessert, but DH and I decided to order. DH picked the profiteroles - mini cream puff shells with vanilla gelato and chocolate sauce. VERY good!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010027.jpg

I couldn't decide between the lemon cheesecake and tiramisu so I got the sampler:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010029.jpg

This was a tiny chocolate cup with about two bites of tiramisu, a small sample of the lemon cheesecake with limoncello strawberries and a chocolate cake that had nutella in it? They were all good.

All in all, we were not blown away by Tutto and won't be going back any time soon. We didn't feel welcome and comfortable and spent much of the meal wanting to just leave and get something CS somewhere. Without the DDX, we'd never had gone.

You are very right - the food was good. I can't believe the lack of value though - much of the food was on par with a good day at Macaroni Grill but twice as expensive. You are defintely paying for the WDW location. We really loved it back in July 2008 and that added to the disappointment.

I don't think we'll be redoing this one anytime soon but I do look forward to the pizza place opening, as Italy is SUCH a beautiful pavilion.

Wine Walk:

We decided to do this this year as well. I have really wanted to try the Rosa Regale and this seemed to be a great way to try it, as well as 5 other wines. We love that we can pick and choose each of the wines whenever we want them, and not all in one day. We still have two to go on a future trip;

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010039.jpg

The first glass - rosa regale. LOVED this:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010038.jpg

I also tried the pinot grigio in Italy and the pouilly fuisse in France. I...er...was not a fan of either. Too dry. But in the interest of full disclosure, I love rieslings, gewurtztimeiners, liebfraumilch, moscato, and ice wines. I like light, sweet and occasionally fizzy. Not a fan of dry.

I was surprised how well it worked for us - but we had five full days for four nights of DDP and did tons of signatures. I'm sure you'll love it!

Tutto Italia lunch

The atmosphere was okay but there was a lack of friendliness from our host and server and the manager who had to come talk to me about my food allergy (bleu cheese). He was also pretty misinformed. He asked if it would be okay to just take the cheese off a premade plate or if I needed an entirely new one. And oh yeah, it was gorgonzola so I should be fine, right?

Sigh..

Bummer... I have food allergies that if handled incorrectly could easily ruin my trip - wanted to try Tutto but after reading this I think we'll pass ;)

Hope the remainder of the restaurants handled your allergy better :goodvibes

Citricos was one of the ADR's we were most looking forward to as it was new to us and we hadn't read much about it. We had switched it out with Cape May earlier in the week as we hadn't been in the mood to dress up that day and it worked out well.

Anyway, the restaurant was beautiful and our server was pleasant but it was another place where we didn't feel entirely relaxed and comfortable. We like casual and formal restaurants, but I think we just weren't in the mood for more formal that night. There were plenty of families with young kids (one right next to us) and people dressed anywhere from sequins and sparkles to shorts and t's.

That said - the food was delicious and we had a HUGE bonus....!!!

We had ordered our drinks and starters, I had switched chairs because DS spilled his cherry coke on my lap (sigh) and suddenly the whole restaurant started buzzing and coming towards our table. I was facing the window and looked out to see a huge swirly corkscrew white cloud and a small white object sailing above it going straight up. It was the space shuttle! I was surprised at first, because DH usually looks those up and tries to get us down to Cape Canaveral for launches, but turns out this was the secret one they did that was announced after it happened. I know that "secret" sounds very dramatic, but that was what the news called it. And we had a perfect view and perfect timing. VERY cool!!

So what did we eat? We started with very good bread and butter with salt:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010084.jpg

DS started with chicken noodle soup and took the photo himself. He was very happy with it, although I think the photo leaves a bit to be desired...

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010087.jpg

DH ordered the asparagus salad and was not impressed. I tried it and it was okay. I liked the combo of the goat cheese sauce, cold asparagus and bacon, but it wasn't as good as it sounded.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010086.jpg

I ordered the sauteed shrimp and LOVED it! Huge chunks of warm feta, tomato and shrimp in a lemon wine sauce. The shrimp were overcooked - very curled up and chewy but it took nothing away from the combination of shrimp, feta and the sauce. DH tasted and also liked it.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010085.jpg

DS decided on the filet, medium rare with mashed potatoes and broccolini. He got a kick out of the hidden Mickey potatoes. It was a very good meal.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010088.jpg

DH and I both ordered the Filet Sicilian. I loved the sauce, onions, banana peppers and peppadew (I love love love peppadews!!) but DH wasn't excited about the sauce. He also didn't really eat his 4 cheese potatoes, but I loved them. They are mostly hidden under the steak:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010089.jpg

For dessert, DS was full so he ordered the dalmation bone to go. This travelled beautifully and we actually moved it with us to the BCV and ate it there - it is supposed to be an eclair shaped like a dog bone. The whole thing is filled with chocolate mousse, dipped in a chocolate shell and served with whipped cream and raspberry sauce.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010100.jpg

DH ordered the lemon cheesecake which was amazing. Totally blew the lemon cheesecake sample I had at Tutto away.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/uploadII.jpg

I had the warm chocolate banana tart and it was outstanding! It was a buttery chocolate tart shell filled with the chocolate the tasted like a lava cake with pieces of banana in it. The ice cream was a perfect addition.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/upload.jpg

All in all this wouldn't be the first signature I'd book again (THAT is still to come!) but in the end we really liked the meal.

Wine Walk:

We decided to do this this year as well. I have really wanted to try the Rosa Regale and this seemed to be a great way to try it, as well as 5 other wines. We love that we can pick and choose each of the wines whenever we want them, and not all in one day. We still have two to go on a future trip;

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/april222010039.jpg

Can you do the Wine Walk anytime? I can't seem to find any info on it and it sounds perfect! Where do you get the "Passport"?

Yup! You can do it year round (not just F&W) and anytime world showcase is open.

We got our passport in Italy, but you can pick it up in Germany or France too. I love that you can pick and choose and have all six in one day or spread out over many. It was $20.

Enjoy!!!

Hi all! Long time since an update with a crazy first week back at work, so here goes...!

The next morning we woke up and I started packing while DS watched TV and DH ran over to the BCV's to get our room keys. He came back with a not very exotic, but delicious breakfast for us:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/uploadIII.jpg

This was accompanied by a few egg mc muffins, etc. But it is actually WDW food, since bought at a McD's on property ;)

When I was just about done packing and ready to make the move from Kidani to BCV's to drop off our luggage, DH got a text that our room was ready! So at 10:22 am we were settled into our new home and ready to take the international gateway to Epcot for lunch.

Coral Reef.

I was looking forward to this restaurant - we hadn't been here for two years and lunch seemed like a good way to enjoy it again. DS started out with a virgin pina colada/daquiri mix, which he enjoyed:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010005.jpg

He also chose the celery and carrots with ranch as his starter.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010014.jpg

DH opted for the corn chowder with chili oil since nothing else appealed and the caesar was only available for an entree. He liked this, but I make a corn chowder at home that blows it away (thank you, Food Network).

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010015.jpg

I opted for the lobster soup, having LOVED it in the past. The soup I remember was thick and creamy and filled with chunks of lobster. It was like a decadent clam chowder and I knew there was nothing else I'd order:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010013.jpg

Well. It looks the same. The texture is the same. But the taste was decidely fishy and I hated it. I tried several bites and then had DH try it and it is definitely different. Our server offered to switch it for something else when she saw I wasn't enjoying it, but there wasn't really anything else that appealed to me either and it wasn't a big deal. Disappointing, but not a big deal.

For his entree, DS picked the cheese pizza, and liked it well enough:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010019.jpg

DH ordered his standard - the NY strip. He was very satisfied with his meal and I have always ordered the same here and have liked it also:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010017.jpg

I had ordered the lobster ravioli and was wondering if that was also going to be a mistake. I had imagined it as ravioli stuffed with lobster meat covered with an alfredo type sauce filled with oinions, olives and capers. Nope.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010016.jpg

This was cheese filled ravioli covered in a tomato based sauce with very few olives, some capers, onions, pepper and TONS (and I do mean a lot) of lobster meat. If you enjoy lobster claws, tail, etc., you would love this dish. I liked it enough to no longer be hungry and while I wouldn't order it again (I don't like lobster THAT much) I would not say there was anything negative about it, other than not really meeting my personal taste. Seriously though - the lobster pieces were plentiful and large.

For dessert, DS declined in lieu of getting a Mickey sandwich or snack later. DH opted for a peach dessert which had a granola cookie covered in almond gelato with a biscotti and peach compote. He loved it. I thought the almond flavor was a little different than the almond extract I use and prefer, but it was still very nice and the granola was really good:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010022.jpg

I decided on the butterscotch creme brulee and I enjoyed every bit of it - definitely the highlight of my meal:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010023.jpg

All in all, I'd have been just as happy at a good CS place (similar to my feelings about Tutto), but the server was very nice, the atmosphere was very cool and DS loved spotting all the fish with his guide. It made a good jumpstart to our touring of the Living Seas after lunch (or whatever it's called now....)

Sunshine Seasons

After Nemo, Crush, Bruce and all the other fish in the Seas, we headed over to enjoy The Land. Once we had ridden Soarin' and Living with the Land, it was time for a snack. DS couldn't find any Mickey ice cream sandwiches, but was just as happy with his choice:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010042.jpg

DH and I are both creatures of habit here and got the same things we get every single time...

DH:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010040.jpg

The lightest, fluffiest key lime pie ever. Not custardy or thick at all, this is like a key lime mousse or souffle with meringue. He loves it, I like it, everyone is happy.

Me:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010041.jpg

The strawberry shortcake is a Must Eat for me. I love the real whipped cream and the fresh berries and the almost non existent cake. They had just brought out a freshly made tray and it was perfect.

We went on to enjoy Epcot for a bit longer and then back to the villas for a swim. The plan for the night was Narcoosee's, but on a whim we changed it for the meal that turned out to be my absolute favorite of the whole trip.

Coming up soon: Flying Fish.

Flying Fish.

We have considered FF many times, but always opted for something else, as we are not really seafood people. But that day we have moved resorts, spent many hours at Epcot and ended up vegging out by the villas pool and hot tub and although Narcoosees did sound good, the idea of booking something just a little later to give us not only more time to relax around the pool, but to just bop across the lake for the meal was really nice. We had even considered room service for our last two deluxe credits, but we did like the idea of hitting the Boardwalk and weren't tired enough to call it a night yet.

So I went online and booked Flying Fish for an 8 ish time and we were all set.

We were seated almost immediately and I was absolutely charmed at how whimsical the restaurant was! The pillars covered with "scales", the lamps shaped like fish hooks hanging from the ceiling, the ferris wheels with fish - all were so subtle and charming! We also loved how the "stars" on the ceiling changed colors.

I had always imagined FF to be a bit stuffy and formal and had actually thought it would be a lot more like Citricos was, but I was very wrong. Our server was extremely friendly and easygoing and the whole atmosphere seemed fun, laid back and comfortable.

We started with some very good bread and butter:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010072.jpg

DS decided on the fruit kabobs and yogurt dip for his starter. He loved this and it was really a cute presentation:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010075.jpg

DH chose the crab cake (Our Signature Flying Fish Cafe "Crispy Maine Coast Jonah Crab Cake" - Savory Vegetable Slaw, Roasted Red Pepper Coulis, and Ancho Chile Rémoulade) - this was enormous and seemed to have virtually no filler in it - all crab. The red sauce on the plate had a very nice spicy kick to it and we both like this very much. Sorry about the photo - it was sundown and the lighting was very pretty, but not the best for no flash photos.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010074.jpg

I chose the shrimp cocktail and I will rely on allears for the description: Floribbean Wild Gulf Shrimp Cocktail - Ruby Grapefruit, Blood Oranges, Winter Radishes, Hearts of Palm, Sauce Verde, and Piqaunt Mango-Mojo Emulsion

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010073.jpg

This was so very good...! The flavors together were just perfect. The shrimp I had at Citricos had been rubber ball like (but very flavorful and still very good!) but these were just perfect. The combination of the sauce, the vegetables and the citrus was absolutely amazing. DH also enjoyed this and we felt our starters made being on the DDx this time absolutely worth it.

DS had enjoyed enough steak by this time on the trip and was beginning to feel mac and cheese deprivation (despite the huge platefuls at Cape May...). He mourns the Mickeyroni and cheese at Spoodles so he was thrilled to see he had the option of cheddar cheese sauce on Mickey pasta for dinner. He ate every bite:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010078.jpg

For DH and I, there was no question what we'd be ordering...the NY Strip: Our Signature Flying Fish Café "Char-crusted Certified Black Angus New York Strip Steak" - Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Root Vegetables, and Pole Beans, with Classic Sauce Foyot

as presented:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010077.jpg

After moving steak off the vegetables:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010081.jpg

This was, hands down, the best meal I had the entire trip. The steak was charred and spiced well yet still a perfect medium rare. Our server explained how they did it to DH and we hope to try at home (marinated in olive oil, grilled quickly on VERY high heat, etc). The sauce is very close to a bearnaise, which we both love. DH says The Wave's filet just barely edges this out, but I loved this meal.

For dessert, DH had already decided on the cupcake and white chocolate puzzle, which he loved:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010083.jpg

DH ordered the Sinful Flourless Dark Chocolate Creation - Morello Cherry Compote, Riesling and Cherry Geleé, with Chocolate Accentuations

The gelees were very strange looking - like cubes of jello - but DH liked the cherry ones (as did I) and I loved the Riesling. Clear, solid and flavored like one of my favorite wines....

The cake was incredibly rich and although I had some, I think DH left almost half. VERY good!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010084.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010085.jpg

I opted for A Trio Celebration of Florida Sweet Peaches - White Chocolate and White Peach Créme Brulée, Schnapps and Cardamom-scented Torta, Ginger-laced Peach Compote, Peach-Almond Cobbler, and Almond Gelato

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010086.jpg

The presentation was wonderful and the desserts were excellent as well. Taken one at a time:

The Peach-Almond Cobbler, and Almond Gelato:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010087.jpg

My favorite of the three - this was like an old fashioned peach cobbler with creamy, melty ice cream. DH and I both loved it.

Schnapps and Cardamom-scented Torta, Ginger-laced Peach Compote:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010088.jpg

Very pretty and okay tasting - probably my least favorite of the three, but still very good. The cake itself was a little dry and needed more of the schnapps or something ;)

White Chocolate and White Peach Créme Brulée:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010089.jpg

This was very good - but I do love creme brulees. Not too sweet, just perfect. Although I wasn't crazy about the peaches on top.

Overall, this meal was just wonderful - we were in no hurry, just sat back and enjoyed everything. We will definitely be back!

Boardwalk snacks.

After our meal at FF, we stepped out and enjoyed some of the BW entertainment for a while. Afterwards, DH bought some popcorn, hoping it was like the addictive stuff at the parks. Not so, but DS loved it:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April232010094.jpg

We also stepped into the BW Bakery, as we had snack credits to use up by midnight. DS picked out a cupcake:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April24-262010032.jpg

and a Mickey cake (yellow cake with sprinkles):

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April24-262010034.jpg

And when we got back to the room, DH grabbed me one of these gems from the Beach Club Marketplace - the chocolate chip coconut bar:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/April24-262010033.jpg

And with that, we had treats galore in our fridge, and our Kidani deluxe dining plan credits came to an end!

My final thoughts on the Deluxe Dining plan...

I am always so curious about how people use this plan and whether or not it works, did they enjoy it, etc. so I thought I'd share my opinion in case anyone else is thinking about it and it helps.

For us, it was a fun departure. We "saved" several hundreds of dollars if you don't count the tips and the fact that without the plan we would not have eaten the way we did, and we were able to try lots of new things. So why did it work for us?

1. We began to use it at 11:00AM on the day we checked in and ended using it around 11:00PM on the day we checked out. We have five full days to use four nights of credits. So we were able to stretch the credits out over an additional full day.

2. We had a two week trip and with DVC we know we'll be back, so longer meals don't take away "park time" for us. Having an hour lunch at Yak and Yeti vs. 20 minutes at Flame Tree BBQ wasn't a big deal to us.

3. We didn't plan more than 2 ADR's in a day - breakfast, lunch (with appetizer) and dinner (with appetizer) plus snacks? that would have been way too much. But we did a brunch OR lunch with dinner and that worked well...one day doing only snacks for breakfast and lunch and then a TS dinner.

4. Three signatures. We could never had eaten all those credits without using 18 of them at three signature meals. All of which we thoroughly enjoyed.

5. Using snacks for meals. We used many snacks for breakfast, to supplement an OOP item or two for lunch, etc. We also used them to stock the freezer with Mickey ice cream bars to eat at night while watching a dvd, with fresh fruit cups for breakfasts and any time DS wanted a Mickey ice cream sandwich. We still had 6 left on our last day and used 3 of them for an afternoon treat and the remaining 3 of them for snacks to be eaten in the coming days, so we did use them all up.

6. No CS meals - this was a plus (financially it made us come out further ahead) and a minus (there are places we really love that are CS) for us. We were able to try more new places and new experiences, but in the end I think if we'd gone to WPE instead of Tutto or Coral Reef, we'd have been happier.

Would we do it again?

Yup!! We were happy to be back on the DDP at BCV, but we really enjoyed the experience. I'd love to do it again if we had another split stay to get the most out of it. That said - I'm still pondering how to add it to our upcoming trip in November/December this year. Unfortunately it would be for much longer than 4 nights this time and that could be prohibitive financially AND calorically :rotfl:

Still - I think it's something every WDW food lover should try at least once.

My wish list: a medium DDP - Two TS credits per day, one CS credit per day, one (or two, I'm not picky!) snack credit/s per day and what the heck....mugs too. That way guests could enjoy signature restaurants and still have a nice CS lunch - or still opt for two TS meals in a day with a nice breakfast. Not as much food, a little less expensive...that's my 2 cents.

Up next...five more full days on 6 nights' worth of DDP credits!
